Tours may be famous for its Renaissance architecture and the Loire Valley’s châteaux, but the city’s culinary scene extends far beyond traditional French bistros. For locals, students, and travelers on a budget, fast food in Tours represents a vibrant mix of American classics, Middle Eastern specialties, and French boulangerie staples.
Whether you are rushing between classes at the Université de Tours or taking a break from sightseeing around Place Plumereau, the city offers a surprising variety of quick-service options. The best spots prioritize fresh ingredients, house-made sauces, and generous portions that rival sit-down restaurants.
Unlike Paris, where fast food can feel generic, Tours maintains a strong sense of local identity. Many of the most popular establishments are independent operators who have perfected their craft over years, if not decades, of serving the community.
This guide focuses on venues that consistently deliver speed, value, and flavor. We have evaluated them based on ingredient quality, consistency of service, and the overall dining experience for a grab-and-go meal.
From crispy baguette sandwiches to loaded smash burgers and authentic kebabs, there is something to satisfy every craving. The following list represents the most reliable and beloved quick-service eateries in the city center and its immediate surroundings.
Below, you will find the definitive list of the best fast food spots in Tours, carefully curated to ensure you eat well without wasting your valuable time.

Everything was perfect.
The girl was very smiley and pleasant. Truly empathetic and helpful. She did her job very well and was very competent.
We had churros there and were very happy. They were delicious, perfectly cooked, hot, and especially for the price, there was a generous portion.
A truly excellent experience.
We'll definitely come back on our next trip to Tours. No regrets.

The waitress was very polite and responsive. Front of house was 5/5, she took great care of us. Unfortunately, our meats were not cooked correctly. We asked for medium and they were rare. The seasoning of my burger was not mixed well so some bites were very over salted. The tenders, fries and dips were good.

There is a lot to choose from in Tours and the city centre. This is not fancy, but suitable for a light meal. They basically have three burgers on their menu and at least two of them is pulled pork or pulled beaf. So far so good. The staff is very sweet and friendly and we really felt they did what they could. BUT we waited very long for our food and the the burgers were cold. The fries were nice and hot, but the pulled beef was a disappointment. 0,5 l beer was nearly 9 euros and that is frankly too much. If the beer had been a bit cheaper and the burgers a bit better, I would have given it 5 stars. But the burgers are at best mediocre and the beer is expensive. Staff is excellent, and that is why they get 3 stars today.
bianca foodie★★☆☆☆
The presentation of the burgers was beautiful! Yet the burgers were cooked rare! I had asked for the meat to be cooked 3/4, medium well done. Neither my father nor I could finish the burgers. For such an costly meal, the server could have been more thoughtful of our needs and accommodated.
Otherwise, the fried chicken appetizer was great!
Will van Ingen★★★★★
Alright, let's talk about this place.
Very detailed and prepared atmosphere.
Beer choice is local and really authentic, it's unknown and an experience.
The burger choice is short but very sure of itself. I chose a Mediterranean Burger with fries and aromatized mayonnaise. It came very graphic, personally I wouldn't expect much more. It was very good but I would recommend having it hotter to give more intensity to the flavor.
The wine was at room temperature or likely 22°C which I understand was a mistake. 7 degrees less would have been appreciated. But it's a mistake and this happens even to the best of us so it's not a big deal.
Oh yes, music was cool. Not to low and not to loud. Just enough to give some vibes with the ability to talk forgetting about it.
Overall it's 5 stars cause I very much liked everything and could feel the work and high quality.

The place has a really nice environment — peaceful, clean, and relaxing. I loved spending time there! The burger was super good, definitely one of the best I’ve had in a while. The only downside was that my phone had no service in the area, but overall it was a great experience.
Brendan McGrath★★★★★
This was our first visit to Poutinebros and it certainly won't be our last. The menu is extensive and seems to cater for most tastes. As it was our first venture we went with the bacon and cheese and our friends opted for the spicy chicken. All our dishes were excellent and fantastic value. We would have no hesitation in returning or recommending this restaurant.

Not bad for a kebab, even if the portion is rather small. It's not the best I've ever had, but it's still good once in a while. The price is reasonable.
The only downside is the atmosphere; there's often noise or altercations with drunk people on the street where it's located.

Experience was great from the start! Our server was so friendly and helpful. Sat outside and enjoyed the fresh air, it was also perfect for people watching. Portions were decent and food was delicious. We had the chicken escalope with rice and green beans, and the braised half chicken with rice and creamy pasta. Both were great! Will def come again

Wife and I had lunch of creamy chicken with mushrooms, rice, pasta, green beans and salad. Very tasty and generous portions. Recommended highly.

The meat was not cooked enough and the service was junk food level. Nothing to compare with a beautiful French rotisserie. They also incentivise you to leave reviews by quoting a code, which is explicitly prohibited under the google charter
Practical Tips for Choosing Fast Food in Tours
Navigating the fast food landscape in a historic French city requires a bit of local knowledge. While the list above provides specific recommendations, these general guidelines will help you maximize the quality of your meal and avoid common tourist pitfalls. Understanding the local rhythm and culinary standards will significantly enhance your experience when grabbing a quick bite in the city.
1. Look for "Maison" or "Fait Maison" indicators.
In France, the term "fait maison" (homemade) is legally protected. Restaurants displaying this designation are guaranteeing that dishes are prepared on-site from raw ingredients. When scanning a fast food menu, prioritize spots that advertise house-made sauces, freshly baked bread, or hand-cut fries, as this separates quality purveyors from those serving frozen industrial products.
2. Beware the "Menu Étudiant" timing.
Tours is a major university town, which means lunch hours (typically 11:45 AM to 1:30 PM) can be chaotic near the Faculté des Trente. If you are not a student and want to avoid long lines, plan to eat either before 11:30 AM or after 1:45 PM. Many spots offer student discounts, so keep your student ID handy if applicable.
3. Prioritize local bread culture.
You are in France, so even your fast food should feature excellent bread. When choosing between a burger or a sandwich, consider how the establishment handles its bakery items. A kebab or sandwich served on a fresh baguette from a local artisan baker is often superior to a burger served on a mass-produced brioche bun. Check for a crispy crust and a soft interior.
4. Check for halal certification if needed.
Tours has a diverse population, and many of the best kebab and chicken spots are halal-certified. This often indicates a focus on specific spice blends and preparation methods that yield exceptionally flavorful meat. Conversely, if you are looking for traditional bacon or specific pork products, be aware that many independent fast food joints operate 100% halal kitchens and do not serve pork.
5. Don’t skip the "Street Food" markets.
While brick-and-mortar locations are reliable, Tours frequently hosts food markets and evening events, particularly near the Loire River during summer. These pop-ups often feature gourmet smash burgers and international street food that rival established restaurants. Check local listings for events like "Tours sur Loire" to catch high-end fast food in a festive atmosphere.
6. Consider the "Takeaway" vs. "Sur Place" pricing.
In France, some establishments charge slightly different prices for eating in (sur place) versus taking away (à emporter). If you are on a strict budget, taking your food to go and eating by the Loire River or in the Jardin des Prébendes d’Oé can save you a few cents while offering a much better view.
The fast food scene in Tours proves that quick meals do not have to sacrifice quality or regional character. By choosing the right spot, you can enjoy a meal that honors French culinary standards even when you only have twenty minutes to spare.
Whether you are craving the char of a flame-grilled kebab or the simplicity of a perfect jambon-beurre, this city delivers. Keep this guide handy, and you will never find yourself settling for a bland meal in the heart of the Loire Valley.
