12 Best Restaurants in Bayeux

Bayeux wears its history with quiet confidence. While the world knows it for the 11th-century tapestry that chronicles the Norman Conquest, the town itself is a living slice of Normandy, complete with cobbled lanes, a majestic Gothic cathedral, and the gentle flow of the Aure river. It is a place where history is not just preserved but woven into the rhythm of daily life. After a morning spent tracing medieval footsteps, you will find that the local culinary scene offers a similarly rich and satisfying narrative.

Dining here is an exploration of Norman terroir. The region’s lush pastures produce exceptional dairy, particularly the creamy Camembert and Pont-l’Évêque, while its orchards yield apples that are transformed into crisp ciders and the potent spirit Calvados. The proximity to the coast means seafood is often the star of the menu, with briny oysters and mussels arriving fresh from the nearby shore. For the hungry traveler, understanding the local flavors is the key to unlocking the true spirit of Bayeux.

This guide is designed to help you navigate the town’s varied restaurant scene, from intimate crêperies tucked away on side streets to refined bistros serving classic French cuisine. Whether you are looking for a quick, savory galette between museum visits or a leisurely multi-course dinner to end your day, there is a table here for you. We have focused on establishments that consistently deliver quality, atmosphere, and a genuine taste of Normandy.

Because Bayeux is a compact town, many of the best dining spots are within easy walking distance of the historic center. This makes it wonderfully simple to combine a day of sightseeing with an evening of gastronomic discovery. However, its popularity with tourists means that tables at the most sought-after addresses fill up quickly, especially during the summer months and around the D-Day anniversary.

Reservations are strongly recommended for dinner, and even lunch can be busy. A little planning ensures you won’t miss out on the best the town has to offer. To help you make the most of your visit, we have curated a list of the twelve best restaurants in Bayeux, each offering something unique to enhance your journey.

Undoubtedly THE BEST food I had in France during my stay here. If ur passing by bayuex,u have to try this place at least once, we got the 3 course lunch menu, and every dish is a hit, one of the best fine dining restaurant dishes I had, and servers attitude is really good too, and can speak very good English if u don’t know French!

We booked a table for 2030hrs and still had to wait to be seated for 30 mins. Whilst waiting the lady waitress was thoughtfull enough to give us menus. For this inconvenience the lady waitress had our first drinks on them which was nice. Understandable since it was rainy earlier so people couldn't sit outside. We were sat downstairs by the door. The staff did ask if I prefer to have the door shut if too cold. Food was delicious. And the menue was lovely colours as shows by the photos. Lovely place. Book in advance. Parking after certain time in the evening is free in nearby car parks. Staff value customer service for sure. Although, the staff upstairs didn't seem as friendly and didn't say anything to us whilst initially we waited for a table upstairs. Walked past several times and if ignored us. I do recommend this place overall. Lively atmosphere but not loud.

One of the best restaurant in town! Menu is not so wide, but perfect enough to choose. And menu is changing every week. Great service, traditional local food, even non gluten options. I have enjoyed dinner with my family in very nice atmosphere with additional glass of Champaigne. I very recommend this restaurant for travellers and explorers new places. Staying 3 nigjts in this town, I have automatically reserved our dinner table for another dinner...

Food so good I cancelled my dinner reservation at another restaurant to come back here. I was born in Paris and was lucky enough to travel all over the world. Paris, Tokyo, London, Hanoi. Done a bunch of Michelin starred restaurants as well. This is by far one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been. Top 5 and better than any restaurant I know in Paris. Service is great, staff is really friendly though the first time I came they took some time to get my order. The food though is beautifully presented, extremely savory and fairly creative and inspired. It’s not molecular gastronomy by any means but it’s “classic” dishes that are extremely well made. The chicken breast I had for lunch was cooked to perfection. Moist and savory on a bed of mash. For dinner I had the salmon which was also perfect cooked, nice and translucent in the middle with a herby crust and some fresh herbs on top. Individual dishes are a bit on the smaller side so make sure you get some starters. The desserts are also delicious I was very very surprised with the coconut sorbet on a crispy biscuit which wasn’t too sweet. The Pims is very good but not my style (not a fan of orange). I’m being extremely honest when I say that the composition and taste is Michelin level here. The gyozas are so so, still tasty but it’s obviously not a Japanese restaurant so don’t get them in the first place. Overall not a single miss, everything was great. I will definitely come to Baye ux from Paris at least once every 2-3 months as the menu is seasonal and changes regularly. I hope it stays open for a long time.

Bonbonne is an amazing French Restaurant in Bayeux, France. The service was extraordinary and appropriately attentive! They allowed us to have the flatbread dinner serving as an appetizer for the table. Not a morsel was left. The salmon appetizer as well as the filet were outstanding. It was the first night for their linguine with pork belly and it was as good as we have had anywhere. The wines paired beautifully with our meals. The prices for such great tasting food were surprisingly affordable! They even had the entire restaurant singing happy birthday in French while clapping in unison. The evening was genuinely one of the best experiences we've had in France.

Our waiter was very friendly, kind, and helpful. I’m allergic to gluten and he made sure I had options that were tasty. The meal for the whole table was delicious and very enjoyable. I would go here again if I were visiting Bayeux.

Outstanding food. Clear flavors. Really fresh. Beautiful presentation. Excellent value for the overall quality. Our waiter was welcoming and friendly. Lovely dining room and indeed there is an alcove where we sat, very cozy. Upstairs for groups. The bathroom is very attractive and new. We were in Bayeaux 2 nights and I wish we had eaten here both nights.

It was a pleasure to dine at L’Alcove. One of the very best meals we’ve had with lovely service. The drink pairings matched beautifully . Thank you!

Our lunch at this quaint Bayeux restaurant was simply delightful. The service and food were both impeccable, you could truly feel the owners' commitment to quality in every detail, right down to the fantastic bread sourced from a local boulangerie. It's no surprise they're a Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient; truly deserved! We were definitely happy we'd made our reservation in advance.

Fantastic dinner for our family of 4 adults celebrating a birthday. The wine recommendation was spot on, food was excellent, and we even got a birthday message written in chocolate on the desert plate. A wonderful last evening in France!

Truly wonderful. Food, service, atmosphere all exceptional. From start to finish it was a beautiful experience, would highly recommend. The quality of the food, wine, expertise of the chef, knowledge and attentiveness of the staff. A very special place!

Fantastic!! We were a party of 4, and everyone enjoyed all courses, the wine, atmosphere, and service. Beautiful, quaint spot with a cozy atmosphere. Our server was so very nice, and even though he was working alone that night, he never seemed rushed or impatient with anyone. The bonus was they have a dedicated gluten free/lactose free menu for anyone needing that. The choices were many, which is not often the case. We ate at other Michelin rated restaurants during our time in France, and this one ranks the highest for me.
David Peyrucain★★★★★
The service was outstanding just like the dinner. Everything looked to pretty to eat but don't let that fool y'a. Your taste buds will be awaken with the flavors. Same as desserts.
Frank Hodges★★★★★
Had a party of 5. Great service and care for nut allergy. Was given special prix fixe menu options that was organized beforehand for nut allergy . Food was great and service was perfect.

We had an incredible meal at La Rapiere. The service, food, wine, pacing was all excellent. This was the best meal we had during our 12 day trip. My wife is a vegetarian and they had quality options, we found that choices were limited in France. I made a reservation about 6 weeks prior. We spent a little over 2 hours at the restaurant. The staff were all very friendly and spoke excellent English (much better than my terrible French)

A meal here is not to be missed! We had many wonderful meals in Bayeux, but this was the best! The atmosphere was warm, comfortable, and relaxed. The service and presentation was excellent. Great care was given to explain each dish as it was served. The food was outstanding: best meal of our trip and one of the best meals I've ever had!

You must have a reservation for dinner in Bayeux. Restaurants either open at 6:30 or 7pm and the majority of seatings seem to occur at 7 or 7:30. We were able to get a reservation for 8:30. On arrival, the restaurant was mostly empty. I thought perhaps there would be a second seating, but no. Guests just continued to leave until there were just a couple of tables left. My wife selected the set menu with fois gras, white fish, cheese, and dessert. I chose the smoked herring appetizer and the daily special of risotto. The food was tasty. With only a couple of tables left, service was very slow. Also, it was very awkward with staff clearing up, closing down for the night, and getting ready for the next day. Additionally, our bill was wrong. Not a big deal, 5 euros, but still it was wrong. I was charged for the fois gras instead of the herring, instead of the fois gras being included with the set menu.
Liam Middleton★★★★★
The food was excellent! We had no clue what to expect but a family member recommend this to us. Every serving was perfect and truly amazing. The flavor hit the palette just right and the portion sizes felt filling but not to the point where we felt too stuffed. The service was also amazing and everyone was so kind. We hope to be back in the future.
Andaç Guven★★★★☆
Nice place. Good service. Food is good but not living to expectations. Took the tasting menu and it was OK but overpriced.
Arnout Mostert★★★★☆
We had a fantastic dinner here but felt a little let down in terms of service. We arrived slightly early and were asked to come back at the time of the reservation, which is perfectly acceptable. However, when we returned it took at least 10 minutes for anyone to ask us if we wanted to have a drink... Food was beautiful, very tasty and well presented but towards the end again the staff spent most time speaking to other customers (French probably) and we felt a bit ignored in our corner. Finally, for a place with a mentioning in the Michelin guide the toilets need some attention...

We were looking for someplace in Bayeux where we could get a salad so I searched on Google for “salad” and found nice photos and ratings for this place. That said, I would give the moyenne salad with jambon or saumon 3 stars. The quiche and salad combo was better at 4 stars. It was raining when we arrived into Bayeux mid-week and many visitors were running about looking for tables at restaurants. We were lucky to score seating for 3. The service is delightful and the team of 2 greeted, took orders, served, cleaned, made drinks, etc for the whole restaurant. So impressive. And the environment is so playful and fun.

A quite small, but nevertheless very charming bistro. Food quality was first class, all ingredients were fresh and tasty. The owner is very nice and warm-hearted, prices are also okay in relation to quantity and quality. Location is in the immediate vicinity of the Bayeux cathedral which also offers a nice outlook. Full recommendation!

Excellent meal really well executed and a great restaurant. We had booked ahead.

We had an absolutely delicious dinner here. Fortunately they were able to accommodate our last minute reservation on the patio. They are well equipped with blankets in the event diners are chilly. Dishes were regional and varied. They are quite affordable and offer 3 and 4 course meal. The crème brûlée dessert was possibly the best we’ve ever tasted. It is a very small restaurant run by a young couple. Reservations are strongly recommended.
Chad Mills★★★★★
During a two-week visit to France and the U.K., this was easily our favorite meal. The food and service were fantastic. They were also graciously accommodating to our toddler!
Ken Rothstein★★★★★
We had one of the best dinners possible at the restaurant. The couple that own Gourmandise & Tradition know what they are doing from top to bottom. The service was perfect and the food was fantastic. I do not like fish but ordered the halibut and loved every bite. Fantastic wine and side dishes also. This restaurant is a 5 and a must for anyone staying in Bayeux
Jess★★★★★
The dinner I had here is definitely the highlight meal of all my dining around Normandy. The restaurant has a very intimate setting due to its small size and small staff with only two people working in it, a chef and a waitress. Despite this though, our waitress was wonderful and was always very attentive. Something to note is that due to the small staff and the level of care given to each dish, don't expect this to be a fast-paced dining experience. Needless to say though, the dishes were a wonderful experience with unique and delicious flavors that emphasize the freshness and quality of each ingredient. I had ordered the guinea fowl for my main course/plat and the quality of the meat was superb and paired with a nice sauce. The dessert was also a standout as the fresh fruit in my tiramisu really stood out. The cheese with honey was also delicious. I also have to note that while I didn't order it, the steak for two looked amazing and was something I regret not suggesting my group to order. My group was lucky to have gotten a table without reservations but due to the small size of the restaurant, I would still highly recommend making a reservation.

This place is exactly what I had hoped for! I was so in the mood for fresh orange juice, something delicious and light. Found it! Absolutely incredible! I have been looking for something like this place for a while. I had essentially an avocado toast. My wife had some kind of potatoe pancake, with eggs, pastrami, and all this other stuff. Freaking cool! It's called a Swiss Twist - Rosti. So delicious! Back to my avocado toast. They have it GF here which is almost impossible in Normandy. It was great. Fresh OJ was great, Americano was great, everything was great! Maelle (our server) is probably one of the best at service in all of Normandy! Very knowledgeable, engaging, charming, smart, and professional. Somehow Selma Alabama managed to hire the best and most capable service professional in Normandy!
Mi G (MG)★★★★★
Selma Alabama Brunch Cafe is an awesome spot for breakfast. If you’re looking for a place that opens early and actually serves food that’s both tasty and filling, this is it. I tried the croissant with scrambled eggs and salmon, and it was genuinely excellent - fresh, buttery, and perfectly balanced. The eggs were soft and flavorful, the salmon tasted fresh, and the portion was satisfying without feeling heavy. It’s the kind of breakfast that immediately puts you in a good mood and sets you up for the day. The coffee was also really good - exactly what you want in the morning. But what truly makes this place stand out is the service: fast, friendly, and attentive. Everything felt smooth and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a great brunch/breakfast in a relaxed atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back.

100% recommended! We came without reservation just as they opened for dinner, they still had some open spots that filled quickly. Soon the restaurant would completely fill up. The prices are quite ok and you get great food. The menu had several really interesting options and everything we ordered was really tasty.

Highly recommended! Food is absolutely delicious!! The staff is very friendly and attentive. The waiting time between dishes are not long and decent. We enjoyed it very much. We arrived there very early for dinner as we don't have reservation. Luckily they accepted us and seated. Really nice.

We came here on a Sunday when many of the restaurants in this town were closed. We had a reservation and saw many folks get turned away. Our service was attentive. The menu is full of classics/traditional dishes done well. All that we ordered was delicious, and mussels super fresh. Overall we had a really enjoyable experience here.

LOVED our dinner here. They were able to accommodate us on a busy night without reservation. Food was EXCELLENT. One of the best meals of our trip. All staff spoke good English which made it comfortable for us as tourists.

La Normande is a wonderful little French restaurant - charming, cozy, and full of character. The service was absolutely excellent. Two lovely waitresses took care of us throughout the evening, helping with recommendations, explaining the menu in detail, and making sure everything flowed perfectly. Plates and cutlery were changed promptly, and the food arrived quickly without ever feeling rushed. Truly attentive and professional service. The food deserves special praise. The oysters were incredibly fresh - they genuinely tasted of the sea, which is exactly how oysters should be. The wine list is very well curated, with great choices to pair with the food. And the desserts were simply outstanding - refined, well-balanced, and a perfect finish to the meal. Bravo to the whole team. Five stars without hesitation!

What a lovely experience! The food was perfectly cooked and the flavors were delicious! Thank you to the chef for taking such good care of the ingredients and making excellent combinations of flavors :). The staff was very nice and friendly. I highly recommend L'Achimie! I had beef tartar to start and sea bass as a main course. My partner had frog legs to start and the pork as a main course. I finished with the orange cake. Everything was perfectly done and outstanding in every way. Hands down the most delicious food I've eaten on my vacation. Wait staff was attentive, professional and friendly. Five stars all around!

A creative and wonderful menu that changes each week. We had the frog legs and beet root starter which were excellent. The beer root had a nice blend of sweet and earthy flavors. The fog legs had a great mix of flavors. We had the tuna entree which was complimented with a wonderful leek side with a balanced sauce. The tuna was amazing with pesto, pine nuts, and a great blend of sweet. One of the best tuna dishes I've ever had. Finished off with the chocolate dessert. This is a must go to place.

Best meal in Bayeux. Attentive staff, AMAZING food. Started with the gazpacho-non traditional but fabulous with smoky bits. Shrimp in a coconut milk sauce with fresh legumes very flavorful and the banana dessert heavenly. Would go back in a heart beat.

I can not stress how amazing this dinner was! My husband and I both feel it was one of, if not the best meal we had our 2 weeks in France! The service was friendly, restaurant was quaint and food was beautiful, imaginative and delicious!

We tried Le Moulin de la Galette this weekend and overall had a really nice experience. The restaurant has an amazing outdoor seating area near the lake, which makes the atmosphere super relaxing and enjoyable, especially on a sunny day. They mainly serve galettes along with some other dishes. The galettes were good and had a really nice taste. The salad was amazing and the sauce was honestly excellent. The fries were also really good, and the crêpes were super tasty for dessert. As for the soupe à l’oignon, I think it could be improved a bit. It needed a little more seasoning, and the bread inside was difficult to cut and eat comfortably. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming throughout the meal. Overall, it’s a lovely spot with a beautiful setting and good food.

📍 Le Moulin de la Galette - Bayeux, France ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Food: Kipik • Freshly prepared and served hot. • The meat was a bit bland for my taste. • Good, but not nearly as memorable as our other galette. Forestière • Loved the combination of bacon, hazelnuts, onions, and pesto. • A unique galette with lots of flavor. • Definitely the one I would recommend ordering! Drinks: Cidre de Bayeux à la Pression • A delicious local draft cider. • Crisp, refreshing, and a great introduction to Normandy. Jonathan and I came here on our very first night in France. It was a nice introduction to two Normandy staples: galettes and cider. The restaurant itself was adorable, with heated outdoor seating, cozy blankets for guests, and even a friendly kitten wandering around. The service was pleasant, and the atmosphere was charming. While the food didn’t completely wow me, I enjoyed the experience overall and thought it was a lovely way to start our trip. Date Visited: 4/14/2026

Wonderful all around: great location, fantastic food and service. Our waitress was one of 2 who ran the terrace like a well-oiled machine, with a smile on her face! She guided us to menu choices when asked and cautioned me that my eyes would likely be WAY bigger than my stomach when I ordered. IMPORTANT: 1. Make a reservation, for lunch or dinner! The place is very popular with locals, for good reason 2. Weather permitting, sit on the terrace. Under a massive tree and next to the river, it’s perfect.

A wonderful find! We stumbled across this lovely riverside restaurant and came back for dinner. It was really busy for a Monday night - positive sign! We didn’t have a reservation so they kindly asked us to come back in 20 minutes - definitely worth it! We had the most fantastic appetisers - huge portions of saucisson sec and fresh calamari. The rolled pancake mains were delicious and we saw plenty of other options being served including cheese fondue which clearly other tables were enjoying. Sadly too full for pudding but I’m sure would have been great and sounded wonderful. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and particular mention of Lauren and her brother James who were incredibly kind and chatted to us in English. A must visit!!! P.s they have a cute cat!

We ate here both nights in Bayeux—no point gambling once you’ve found the place. A proper intro to Norman cuisine: excellent buckwheat galettes, with the Kipik my favorite. The baked Mont d’Or combined with roasted potatoes is beyond words. With food this good? Cider or poiré, of course.

Le P’tit Resto offers a pleasant and comfortable dining experience, though it stops short of being particularly memorable. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed, making it an easy place to enjoy a calm meal. The staff was consistently friendly and welcoming, contributing positively to the overall experience. As for the food, it was well-prepared and enjoyable, but relatively simple in execution. Nothing was off or disappointing, but it did not stand out, especially when compared to some of the more refined and inventive meals we experienced elsewhere in Paris. Overall, this is a solid choice if you are looking for a low-key, reliable meal in a welcoming setting. Just do not expect anything especially distinctive or elevated.

Before even trying the food, we were very impressed by the warm and kind service. The food was an experience. We ordered a three-course dinner and really enjoyed every dish. Although the choices were limited and we are eaters with many requests, finding an option for everyone was not a problem at all. My father's first response when tasting the food was: "Oh là là!"

This was an outstanding restaurant that provided exceptional service and food. Our group of nearly 20 had eaten all throughout the city and this was our favorite. The waitress was fast, efficient, and spoke great English (for which we were grateful but did not expect). Highly recommend.

Lovely restaurant very close to the Cathedral. Imaginative menu and very tasty food, but what made the evening was the friendly and efficient service. Very good value for money

Beautiful old-fashioned teahouse with a unique and charming atmosphere and a fairy-tale setting located on the forecourt of the cathedral of Bayeux. All day long (from 9AM until 6PM) you can enjoy a variety of sweet and savoury homemade delicacies and pastries surrounded by lovely vintage decoration! They also have an incredible range of teas and everything is served on delicate china of all different patterns. The pastry we had was really to die for and the staff were very warm and welcoming. Highly recommended when in Bayeux!

The place is very cute and PINK. Toilets were not accessible due to repairs. Food tastes great but my son did find a hair in his food. It happens.

Tips for Dining in Bayeux

To truly enjoy the culinary landscape of Bayeux, a little local knowledge goes a long way. The dining culture here is deeply rooted in French tradition, which means meal times are often sacred, and the pace is meant to be savored rather than rushed. Understanding a few key customs and practicalities will not only enhance your experience but also help you avoid common tourist pitfalls, ensuring every meal is as memorable as the sights you came to see.

1. Make Reservations in Advance

This is the single most important piece of advice for dining in Bayeux. The best restaurants are small, independently owned, and extremely popular. During peak season (April to October), walking in without a reservation will often lead to disappointment. A simple phone call or an email to your hotel concierge a day or two in advance is usually sufficient to secure a table.

2. Embrace Norman Specialties

Don’t come to Normandy looking for generic French food. Be adventurous and order the regional stars. Look for dishes featuring Andouille de Vire (a local sausage), Teurgoule (a cinnamon rice pudding), or any dessert featuring apples and Calvados. For cheese lovers, a plate of local Pont-l’Évêque, Livarot, and Camembert is a must.

3. Look for the "Menu" or "Formule"

To experience high-quality French dining without breaking the bank, opt for the fixed-price menu. Most restaurants offer a menu du jour at lunchtime or a multi-course menu in the evening. This is often the best value and gives you a curated taste of the chef’s strengths, usually featuring seasonal ingredients.

4. Understand French Meal Times

While Bayeux is tourist-friendly, kitchens generally adhere to strict hours. Lunch is typically served from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and dinner service rarely begins before 7:00 PM. If you are hungry at 6:00 PM, you will likely find most kitchens closed. Plan your day around these windows, or stop by a boulangerie or salon de thé for a snack in the afternoon.

5. Be Mindful of Dietary Needs

Traditional Norman cuisine is rich, featuring heavy use of butter, cream, and meat. While vegetarian options are becoming more common, they are not guaranteed everywhere. If you have dietary restrictions, it is best to check the menu posted outside the restaurant before sitting down, or inform the staff politely when making your reservation. Crêperies are usually the safest bet for vegetarians.

The culinary journey through Bayeux is as much a part of the travel experience as the Bayeux Tapestry or the D-Day beaches. Each meal is an opportunity to connect with the land, the sea, and the people who call this corner of Normandy home. From the first bite of a buttery galette to the last spoonful of an apple dessert, the flavors here linger long after you have left the table.

As you wander back to your hotel through the illuminated medieval streets, you will likely find that the memory of a perfect meal has become intertwined with the history surrounding you. Take your time, order a local cider, and let Bayeux reveal itself one delicious course at a time. It is a destination that nourishes both the mind and the palate in equal measure.
