Finding the right place to stay often defines the rhythm of a trip. In a city like Tours, where medieval timber-framed houses sit beside elegant 18th-century boulevards, your accommodation becomes part of the narrative. Whether you are passing through the Loire Valley for the châteaux or lingering over the region’s celebrated gastronomy, the city offers a diverse range of lodging options that cater to every style of traveler.
Tours is often called "Le Jardin de la France" due to its lush parks and proximity to the region’s famous vineyards. It is a city that rewards those who appreciate history, yet it vibrates with the energy of a large university population. From the cobbled lanes of the Old Town (Vieux Tours) to the bustling markets near the Halles, the atmosphere is distinctly French and refreshingly authentic compared to more crowded tourist hubs.
The geography of the city is compact, making it a walkable destination. However, choosing the right base is still crucial. Business travelers may prefer the convenience of the train station area, while leisure visitors often seek the charm of Place Plumereau. Couples might look for romantic boutique stays, while families often prioritize space and accessibility to public transport or parking.
The hotel scene in Tours has evolved significantly in recent years. Alongside the classic grand hotels, a wave of stylish boutique properties and restored historic mansions has emerged. This blend means you can sleep within walls that have stood for centuries, yet still enjoy modern comforts such as high-speed Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and premium bedding.
Understanding the local hospitality landscape is key to avoiding disappointment. In a region famous for its relaxed pace, the best hotels are not necessarily the largest; they are the ones offering a sense of place. We have curated a selection of stays that stand out for their location, character, and commitment to service, ensuring your visit to the gateway of the Loire Valley is memorable.
Below, we explore a variety of properties that represent the best the city has to offer, ranging from opulent historic residences to sleek, contemporary urban retreats.

I stayed in this hotel for 10 nights in late May and had a great time! Room and bathroom were spacious and recently renovated, very well equipped and elegant. Hotel is situated very close to the historical center with many restaurants; the main (also shopping) street is not far away and it is possible to walk to the train station. Mind there is no elevator and no AC.
I was visiting during a "canicule", and the hotel team did everything to make their clients' stay as comfortable as possible: huge efficients ventilators were put in the rooms and 2 to 3 bottles of water (Cristalline) were provided daily. There was no noise from adjacent rooms but outside tended to get a bit loud at night. Nice breakfast, but I had it only once because left quite early every day to see the beautiful Loire Valley.
I highly recommend this hotel! Thank you very much to Bruno, Pauline, Emma, Paula, Sarah, Solange and all other staff members! I hope I will come back to Touraine, and if I do, I will gladly choose Ferdinand Hôtel Tours again! :)))

We really liked this hotel. It’s in the center of town but very quiet . The staff are really nice and very helpful and also speak very good English. We accidentally booked a single room but the bed at 1m40 cm was big enough for two of us. Our room was spotless with a lovely shower and a comfy bed. There’s no air con but the fan worked really well. We were on the second floor and didn’t need a lift . The breakfast was delicious with local cheeses , meats and yoghurts , fresh croissant and crusty bread, and cereals and juices. We’d definitely stay here again .

This is the best hotel in Tours! We felt so welcomed and comfortable during our visit! The host was absolutely incredible and the service was unmatched. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Tours that elevates your trip, look no further!

Be aware of this facts
There is no AC in the rooms
There is no lift in the hotel.
You need to carry your luggage upstairs to the third floor!!!
They don’t speak English
Worse place ever
And it’s a brand new hotel in France not in India

Exceptionally clean and welcoming hotel.
The staff were very polite and only too happy to help with any requirements, particularly helpful with young kids.
Perfect location for restaurants/ cafes and to walk the old town, river etc.

Travelled to France and stayed overnight at this lovely hotel. Room was wonderful, very clean, good size. Little touches like Le' Occitaine toiletries, pet bowls, toy for my Siamese cat.
Equally, although did not use the mini bar, it was there and stocked with " goodies".
Also full sink, hob ,electric kettle, crockery and utensils if you wished to take food and cook.
We ate in the garden area, beautiful evening not far from the wonderful pond. Food was good, but the service from the young waiter was excellent .He was very attentive and a credit to the hotel. We will be staying there again on our return journey.
Also got to say the reception staff all so lovely and helpful.
Parking an absolute bonus.
Love this place. Well done to all at this hotel.

Nice rooms and garden. Stayed in one of the family rooms which was nice and spacious.
Service was a bit slow and breakfast is on the expensive end for what is offered. Unfortunately, there are no easy alternatives nearby. Dinner was ok but also a bit too expensive for the quality.
Parking is available on site but can be limited if you have a roof box on the car.
The location is good but there is not much around it, so you have to drive to get somewhere for alternative food etc.

This is a spacious and charming property consisting of two buildings, with a retirement home located a short distance away. The hotel includes a main building and an annex. We stayed in the annex, where the rooms are generously sized, some featuring a small balcony.
The room itself was spacious and included a small kitchenette with a fridge and coffee/tea facilities. An additional touch, such as white coffee/tea cups instead of black ones, would make it feel more hygienic and complete. There is a separate toilet, and the bathroom includes a small bathtub with both a rain shower and a handheld shower.
The hotel is within walking distance of the city center (approximately 20 minutes), but there is also a tram stop about 5–10 minutes away from the hotel.
The staff were friendly, and the check-in process was smooth, with clear explanations provided.
Breakfast is extensive, especially by French standards, and you can order eggs prepared to your liking. A downside was that staff started clearing and preparing for lunch quite early, regardless of the time. We experienced this both at 09:15 and at 08:00, even though breakfast is served from 07:30 to 10:00.
There is no bar, but you can sit in the conservatory and order drinks from the restaurant. There is also a free spa and fitness area, which can be used by external visitors as well.
The garden is beautiful and is also shared with residents of the nearby retirement home. Parking is available on-site, both indoors and outdoors.
Overall, we had a pleasant stay.

Due to an air conditioning issue, we were moved from the Junior Suite we booked with a queen bed to a standard double room. When we expressed concerns about the downgrade, the manager told us we were welcome to find another hotel if we were unhappy.
The hotel offered a €20 per night refund, but refused our request for complimentary breakfast instead. After trying the breakfast, we found it mediocre and not worth the €20 per person charge.
The room had very small, hard pillows, worn towels, and inconsistent hot water. Despite requesting extra pillows through housekeeping, none were provided.
The location was also less convenient than expected. There is very little within walking distance, and many of the nearby businesses appeared abandoned. Or permanently closed. It's best to have a car or take the train down the hill into the city center for restaurants and shopping.
Checkout was the most frustrating part. Staff attempted to withhold the agreed refund by citing taxes and other charges that had never been mentioned before. We were also accused of taking minibar items despite taking nothing and had to offer to accompany staff to the room to prove it.
Only after a lengthy discussion and making it clear we would leave an honest review was the promised refund honored.
Problems can happen at any hotel. Unfortunately, the room downgrade, dismissive management response, poor service, inconvenient location, and difficulty receiving the compensation we were promised left us very disappointed with our stay.

An excellent experience. The staff is attentive and welcoming and the rooms are spacious and well-maintained. The restaurant serves absolutely delicious food. Parking available. This hotel is definitely worth your time and money.

Same as my other 2 reviews this was booked for me by my work for my work trip and this was my 1st stop. Room is ok, bathroom is ok and shower was good!
I’m sure the WiFi wasn’t the best!
Had a few drinks at the bar but check what you pay as I paid for 1 beer (it beeped) and the machine ran out of battery so they got 2nd one and try to make me pay again! I knew I heard the beep so checked my bank and had to show them!
They have a restaurant on site but didn’t have dinner but did have breakfast, I would recommend going early when they open as I did as when I left it got very busy! The breakfast was good though!
Few shops and other restaurants near by!
Parking is hotel or the onpen carpark which is free as well but used for the other shops as well

Their spirit, dedication to service, and genuine support for one another set a whole new standard. Clearly guided by a talented manager, they’ve created an atmosphere that’s not just welcoming—it’s memorable.
Bravo to the team, and thank you for turning a simple stay into a standout experience! 👏

Very friendly staff, very comfortable beds and nice food for overnight stay while driving through France. Very accommodating for our dog who travels with us. He loves the complimentary toy and snack on arrival. The restaurant food is very nice and the breakfast substantial to set up for day and the drive ahead.

Great service , good restaurant.
The rooms are getting tired. Small and poky. Sorry to say.

The location is good, next to plenty of parking and modern restaurants and a shopping mall.
It's great for one night with excellent comfy beds and breakfast is extra cost but as no kettle in the rooms was good selection. We used the brasserie and food was lovely but undermanned so service was slow. It had live music, I would recommend.

The hotel is bright and modern with a lounge and bar and they serve a lovely breakfast. They have an.outside area too with chairs & tables. There are only 2 floors and there's a lift. There is underground parking at 5 euros a night - just make sure to reserve a space & you can park anywhere. The staff are friendly, professional and helpful. The rooms are a lovely size with a great bathroom. There is a kettle too with tea, coffee, sugar & paper cups. My only suggestion (as it's not constant) is to replenish the tea/coffee/sugar daily! Highly recommended.

Only used for an overnight stay. Room was clean, ensuite pretty good compared to other budget hotels we've used. Mattress was a bit too firm for my personal choice.
Had a nice, reasonably priced meal at restaurant next door. Safe underground car park was an essential gir us

Room comfortable. Nice shower and bed. Breakfast good. Hotel is a bit out of the way sited between flats and office buildings. Only pizza available in the evening unless you go elsewhere. They ran out of these when we were there. Parking could be better. Warnings about vehicle security left us a bit worried, but car wasn't touched overnight.

Convenient for overnight stop on journey south. It was easy to find, just follow the new cream direction signs. New hotel with very comfortable beds and undergroundcar park. Also just by the tram stop to get into the city quickly. Restaurant attached serves good but unremarkable food and other restaurants nearby. Will make it our regular overnight stop on this route.

We stayed one night on the way to southern France with 2 couples. Very nice property with beautiful and spacious garden. We had booked the two rooms under the roof, both of which historic style with beams from the 18th century or older. The host is very friendly and helpful. Following his advice we took the tram to visit the city which very worthy to be seen. Breakfast offered all the choices you might want. Will come back if we are in the region.

We spend 4 nights at this amazing bed and breakfast. It has only 5 rooms so it was very quiet and cozy. Dominique was a great hosts who made our stay there all the better. He was really concerned about or stay in Tours and gave us great ideas of what we could be doing. He even went out of his way to give a us ride to the train station on the day we left at 7 AM. For us the breakfasts were just right, bread and croissants with homemade jams that were delicious. They also added homemade yogurt. The rooms are unique and I there say a little quirky. Normally we try to stay closer to the center of town but we wanted to try something different for this stay and we were happy we did. We could not have asked for better experienced.

We had a wonderful stay! There is a lot to like about this place. The beautiful, large garden, the friendly hosts, the old, charming house, delicious breakfast with homemade ingredients. We rented the family suite and our kids immediately felt at home when they saw the toys at their disposal.
Jax Martin★★★★☆
Stayed here for one night whilst cycling the Loire. It’s a little way from the route uphill but worth the effort. We were warmly welcomed and there was somewhere secure to store the bikes. The beds were very comfortable and everything was immaculate. Breakfast was homemade yogurt, homemade preserves, bread and croissant. For us some fresh fruit or maybe an egg were the only things lacking.
Declan Ronayne★★★★★
This was delightful. We were only passing through en route to Ireland from Spain and were keen to avoid the hotel experience, preferring a bit of authenticity and supporting a local small business. We weren’t disappointed in the slightest. A wonderful welcome from Dominique, service well over and above what anyone would expect, a room oozing with character but equally a decent, comfy bed and a fine shower. Breakfast with bread and croissants that almost die in your mouth and homemade yoghurt as an added bonus. It’s advertised as a little bit of country in the city and it certainly is. It’s a little bit out of town but you’re a short tram ride ( which you’ll be given a ticket for ) away from town. Our only regret is that we didn’t travel early enough to see some of Tours during the day. We went for an evening meal at a place recommended by Dominique and that didn’t disappoint either. As a final point, excellent value for money for all you get !

Oliver Taylor★★★☆☆
I’ve given 3 stars, which I believe is fair based on expectations. For €55 at a budget hotel, I wasn’t looking for luxury—just a clean room, a comfortable bed, hot water, and functioning air conditioning.
On the positive side, the room was surprisingly spacious and spotless, and the shower was large with plenty of hot water. However, the bed was quite lumpy, and unfortunately, there was no air conditioning—which made for an uncomfortable night.
That said, would I stay again? Absolutely—if I needed a cheap place for a quick 6-hour layover, it would still do the job.

Excellent budget hotel.10 min from historical centre ville. I myself work at a hotel and can tell that the sheets and towels were extremely clean. Very helpful receptionnist and proper bathroom. If I have to tell a one tiny negative point, it would be the soundproofing of the walls, but really not a big deal. We will return.

An excellent traditional "hotel". Clean with good service. Decor a bit tired but gradually being updated. Short 10 min walk into town centre and really easy to get to from motorway, with free parking opposite in the main boulevard. Fresh breakfast of standard drink and croissant etc. It is our regular stopping point when passing through. To us it worth more than the one star it has.

It was my first time traveling to Tours with my family. I think the location is great, and the room is clean. However, we couldn't charge our phones because the electricity was very weak. Also, they made us pay a fee for moving the beds, which I didn't understand. They didn't tell me about the additional fee until I asked. They seemed nice and friendly, but I was really confused and felt stressed.

Nice little hotel, very friendly owners. The rooms are comfortable and clean, though the beds are quite small. But this is fine if you are under 1.80 meters. We felt like the breakfast was a bit overpriced for what you get (for example no eggs or croissant).

Lovely little hotel fairly central in Tours. It is very old and I'd typically French shabby chic! The spiral wooden staircase isnt suitable for anyone with walking difficulties though. It is run by a charming older couple.

- good location, very close to train station and good restaurants
- old furniture in the room; very old bedsheets and towels (the white became more gray-ish); the shower door is rusty,
- the soap smells very strange as the room too
- wifi is not working- very poor signal
- the host canceled the reservation when we arrived and we lost the booking benefit. He didn’t want to fix it. I asked him, told him how, he simply refused to.
- the host didn’t provide the invoice despite we asked many times
- half of the building has only the walls and roof

Sometimes there are places which I just love even if the room was a bit old and the hotel not perfect. It has a little touch that worked with me: the inner patio, the super friendly receptionist, the quaint veranda-like bathroom in the bedroom...

The hotel is very well located for the centre of town. Our room was not huge but certainly adequate for our needs and the ensuite was very big and modern with a very good shower. Everything was clean and well presented, staff were very welcoming. We missed not having tea or coffee making facilities in the room but that's a very English habit. The breakfast room was a little short of space because the weather meant that the garden couldn't be used, otherwise it was just what we needed and we would definitely stay there again.

My room was clean and the food was good. When I stayed there the temperatures got hot outside. Had trouble with the AC at night. I ended up changing rooms because my room was too warm. It was cooler in the new room. Other than that, everything was okay.

This is a wonderful hotel located in the central part of Tours, convenient to the train station and the tram and bus. Many restaurants close by to choose from. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff was friendly and very helpful. There's a very charming bar downstairs, lovely lounge area, and a generous sized indoor pool. Only negatives were the bed was somewhat hard, a tiny bit of mold in the shower, no English speaking TV channels, and the hallway was hot and messy. I would stay here again when returning to Tours and recommend this hotel.

I stayed with my sister for a night. The hotel is very well located in the city centre. Public spaces are well decorated but need some improvements to make them more welcoming. Receptionist was nice, welcoming and efficient. Room was basic - beds were good but overall no charm and very basic amenities. It was very cold even with the heater and having raised the room temperature. Pool was cold and room was also very cold. Jacuzzi was good and warm enough. The gym was small but ok. Breakfast was good with not so many choices but good quality, however the waitress / person in charge was very cold and almost rude while talking to guests. Overall, the experience was good but I was expecting better. It needs more attention to details et some improvements.

Pretty solid. One of the only hotels with a pool in centre.
Friendly staff.
Fair price.

Be nice if had some dumbbells at least. Also I thought online it said there was a sauna / steam. But that wasn’t the case.

If you have smb in your group having difficulties walking (ADA), look for another hotel.
We have arrived and asked:
1) how to get into the hotel in a wheelchair => through garage we were told😔
2) can we park our car in this parking we asked => yes, but you have to book a parking space in advance. You receive an email while booking, we showed that no email was received with a booking link… so the reception made me a fool saying that it was my fault I have not booked through a link that was never provided🤨
So we were not able to park on ADA place - it was taken by somebody that do not need an ADA place, we have to enter through the garage (that smells interesting BTW) and it is all our fault.
Just do not book there

The Premium room we stayed in was spacious and cozy, with a high ceiling and excellent ventilation that was a delightful surprise. The WiFi connection was incredibly fast. But the spacious bathroom had a poorly designed layout. There were large empty spaces, but the shower area was disproportionately small. There were no cloth hooks in the bathroom for clothes or robes, and there was only one short bar to hang a single bath towel. The breakfast was decent, but it lacked any vegetables. The breakfast rooms were often crowded due to the presence of several tourist groups. Many of the glassware appeared dirty with lip marks, and the breakfast area sometimes looked chaotic and mismanaged.
Alex Chamberlain★★★★☆
Hotel is nice and well located. Rooms clean and well sized. Parking needs to be much clearer- information in advance is confusing, and it took us a few goes to get out as validating the ticket was unclear.

I stayed at Le Grand Hotel De Tours on Sept 2025 for a couple of night at the end of a biking trip looking for a fine hotel to relax in. Immediately when entering the room it appeared I made a bad choice.
First of all the air conditioning didn't work, nor did the built-in space heater. The room was freezing cold. The reception told me the technician is out for the day and they can't do anything and hung up the phone. Only after I called again they sent someone. Their solution? An old Coil space heater that's ridiculously dangerous and insufficient for the room size.
When I entered to take a shower the adventure continued - no hot water and the water isn't flushing.
On checkout the manager urged me to email him my bank account promising a refund. To this day they are ignoring my repeated emails.
In short, in such a beautiful city there are many alternatives that won't freeze you then ghost you. Steer clear.

Tips for Choosing Your Stay in Tours
Selecting the right hotel requires a bit of local insight. While the city is safe and welcoming, certain areas serve different travel goals better than others. Whether you are here for the wine, the history, or simply a good night’s sleep before a long drive, these practical considerations will help you match a property to your specific itinerary and travel style.
Prioritize Proximity to Place Plumereau for Atmosphere
If your vision of Tours involves stepping out of your hotel directly into a lively medieval square, look for accommodations in the Vieux Tours district. Staying near Place Plumereau means you are surrounded by half-timbered houses, cafés, and restaurants. However, note that this area can be lively at night, so light sleepers may want to request a room facing a quiet courtyard rather than the street.
Consider the Train Station Area for Logistics
For travelers using Tours as a hub for day trips to châteaux like Chenonceau or Villandry, staying near the Gare de Tours is highly strategic. This area offers excellent connectivity to trams, buses, and car rental agencies. It lacks the historic charm of the Old Town but makes up for it with convenience, particularly if you have heavy luggage or an early morning departure.
Check for On-Site Parking
If you are exploring the Loire Valley by car, parking can make or break your experience. Many boutique hotels in the historic center are located on narrow, pedestrianized streets where vehicles are restricted. Always verify whether the hotel offers private parking or has a partnership with a nearby public garage. The cost of parking can add up, but the convenience is often worth the fee.
Look for Air Conditioning in Summer
While Tours has a temperate climate, summer heatwaves are becoming more common. Many historic buildings and older boutique hotels were not originally equipped with modern climate control. If you are visiting between June and September, double-check that your chosen room includes air conditioning, as a stuffy night in a converted attic room can be uncomfortable.
Don’t Overlook the Breakfast Option
French hotel breakfasts vary wildly in quality. Some offer a simple croissant and coffee, while others provide lavish spreads featuring local Touraine cheeses, rillettes, and fresh fruit. Since many cafés in the city open later in the morning, booking a hotel with a strong breakfast offering can save you time and ensure you start your day of sightseeing with proper energy.
Balance Budget with Tram Access
Tours has an excellent and modern tram system that connects the city center with the outskirts. If you are traveling on a tighter budget, staying slightly outside the immediate historic core near a tram stop can offer significant savings. You can often find larger rooms and quieter surroundings just a few minutes by tram from the main attractions.
Choosing where to stay in Tours ultimately comes down to how you want to experience the city. Whether you prefer the creak of ancient floorboards in a restored château or the crisp lines of a modern design hotel, the city accommodates with grace. The hospitality here is often personal; many of the best properties are independently owned, with staff who are genuinely proud to share their knowledge of the Touraine region.
With your accommodation secured, you can focus on what truly matters: savoring the local wines, wandering through the bustling markets, and using this elegant city as your gateway to the wonders of the Loire Valley. A good night’s rest in the right hotel ensures you have the energy to explore every vine-covered courtyard and royal château the region has to offer.
