Finding affordable accommodation in Tours does not mean sacrificing comfort, location, or the charm that makes the Loire Valley so special. As a university city with a vibrant medieval core, Tours offers a diverse range of budget-friendly hotels that cater to backpackers, couples, and business travelers alike. Whether you are stopping over to explore the Châteaux of the Loire or attending a conference, you can find a clean, comfortable bed without breaking the bank.
The key to securing a great deal in this region often lies in timing and location. While the historic Old Town (Vieux Tours) commands a premium, the areas surrounding the train station and the university offer exceptional value just a short walk from the action. The city’s efficient tram system also means that staying slightly outside the center can save you significant money while keeping you connected.
Budget hotels in France are generally categorized into simple one-star establishments, standard two-star chains, and comfortable three-star boutique options. In Tours, many of the cheapest options are family-run operations that offer a level of personalized service you won’t find in larger chains. These properties often pride themselves on immaculate cleanliness and a warm welcome, proving that "cheap" does not have to mean "cheerless."
When evaluating the best cheap hotels, we considered more than just the nightly rate. We looked for properties that offer genuine value through included amenities, such as reliable Wi-Fi, private bathrooms, and convenient access to public transport. A low price tag means little if you must spend a fortune on taxis or parking to reach the city center.
Safety and hygiene standards are paramount, and the properties highlighted below maintain strong reputations for guest satisfaction. Many offer the classic French breakfast of croissants and coffee, which can be a cost-effective way to start a day of sightseeing. Additionally, several of these hotels are located near local bakeries and markets, allowing you to eat like a local on a budget.
Below is a curated list of the best affordable stays in Tours, carefully selected for their balance of price, location, and guest reviews. These options prove that you can save money on your room and spend it on experiencing the rich history and gastronomy of the Loire Valley instead.

Good location for travelling south or north, I arrived and receptionist was very welcoming (spoke perfect English) and informed me the reception is manned from 0630 till 2100. Arriving after 2100 there's a machine outside reception to gain entry in to hotel and upon leaving before 0630 there's a drop-box to leave key cards. Wifi is very good. Car park is not gated but the area has no problems. I left at 0630, drove 45mins south and realised I'd left my wallet in the room, rang the hotel and a different staff member answered, she spoke perfect English, I told her my mishap, she retrieved my wallet, I arrived back and they handed me my wallet. Thanks ladies. Exceptional customer service. Hope your employers know how much above and beyond you go for your hotel guests.

Rubbish! got my key after hours and then it locked me out of my room when I walked my dog.. no body to answer my phone call... had to sleep in the car, no help no redress or refund or even acknowledgement of my hellish non stay .. go somewhere else. I would give it no stars but I was obliged to put a mark.

It’s like a formula 1 hotel. Clean, tidy, nothing fancy, but very convenient and good price/ quality. Two stars less for the blatantly rude staff. Not helpful. Shooed me out of a hallway that I entered to ask a question about the wifi, almost physically removing me, whilst I had no idea that it was a no entering zone. No smiles. Literally got a hand in my face a couple of times. She wouldn’t help me with booking a taxi for the next morning. Really shows how staff can make or break a place. Clean rooms.

Ideal for my short stay. Clean comfortable and good service. Excellent communications via e mail so no worries.
Breakfast a bit basic but acceptable. Good parking and eassy walk to the shops bars and restaurants. Once you park up you dont need a car until you leave.

Great location and generally good features, but the service is really terrible and the rooms are dirty. I stayed here for a month in the summer and my first room had bedbugs and was not cleaned. They did fumigate it, however, they left it uncleaned and refused to give me a new room, that is, until the electricity stopped working. They told me to move my food to another room so it would not spoil, but the next day, the cleaners threw all of my food out and took my device chargers. I asked for a refund and they said they were not able to do that. Generally, overall this is an okay place to stay, however, I would reconsider if you value good customer service because you will not get that here.

It is a good place to stay when you are wanting to be close to the city centre but at the same time in a quiet environment. The reception is closed during the day for lunch but so if you arrive early, you'll need to hang around in town. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a plumbing issue in our room (previous guests stuffed paper in the drain 🤔) but it was fixed asap. We took two rooms for ourselves and the kids and both rooms were well served with the necessary toiletries. The large rooms (ideal for 3/4 people) are on one floor and the standard room on another so we were on separate floors to our kids. The elevator (lift) system is also interesting between the two sides... I'll leave you to discover that for yourselves ☺️. I could once during our 3 nights stay and I had adequately what was needed between the two rooms. The room service is minimal but correct for the price so do not expect a 5* service. Part of the hotel is used as a students residence, so don't be surprised to see youths in the lift or people coming in with a shopping trolley...they live there. I didn't try the breakfast while there ( I thought it a bit expensive to pay 8€/person for 6 people), there are bakeries, McDonald's etc around to meet your needs. As for location, it is the best because it's less than 5 minutes from the train, coach and tram station. There are buses all over and places to park (limited). You can easily circulate on foot to the main shopping areas, the old town lined up with restaurants from around the world...conclusion whether for business or pleasure, you can have a good night's sleep without breaking the bank!

I've seen a few negative reviews but our experience doesn't reflect any of them.
We found the room to be well prepared and in good condition.
The staff helped us check in and out during closure hours including the secure parking.
The location is great and we could have asked for little more for the price.
The only thing I'd like to have seen is a second set of towels.
Raïm Cène★★☆☆☆
It was very cheap and I definitely got what I paid for. The sheets were dirty and made me itch, every morning they were people crashing about in the rooms and corridor around. One positive is that I felt secure and the ladies working there were nice enough.
Duncan Brabant★☆☆☆☆
First of all, I booked a room woth two single beds and got one double bed instead even though I got an email confirming my request. Once arrived, we had to pay for parking which was shown as free parking on Booking.com. The reception service was just OK, with a very difficult explanation to find our room (which actually was very complicated to be found). Opening the door of the room, we immediately smelled and saw it was unhygienic and what you see in pictures is NOT what you get in front of you. They said airco is included but in fact it is one of those weak airco’s that can turn around and it barely gives refreshment so I suffered the whole night not being able to sleep because of the heat. Which brings me to one good point, it was close to the city to walk around at night instead of staying in the room.

One towel between three people and the desk had been ripped out leaving screws poking out in a room where we have an 18 month old toddler. Stanley knife blades on the floor as you walk into the hotel for dogs to stand on and children to pick up.
Breakfast closed early as well, but the safety concerns are disgusting. Not habitable.

Very disappointed. I know these hotels are 1 star and very cheap but...
When I pulled into the car park it looked as though the place had been abandon a year ago, grass growing through the parking spaces, not much paint left on the facade of the building etc. The receptionist was absolutely brilliant though, she was very helpful and lovely to chat with.
The rooms stank of cigarette smoke but we're clean.
The idea of having outside doors seems like a good idea but the noise from the car park was terrible. Music being played until midnight followed by a drunken French couple arguing and fighting until 2.30am when the police turned up and hauled them away.
Phil Bowles★★★☆☆
Basic hotel for a one night stop over on the way to Spain. The receptionist was very helpful and even carried our bag to the room. Rooms are small with a dated and small en suite but the bed was very comfortable so that was good. We slept well.
Marcelo Pollak★☆☆☆☆
The hotel has a horrible maintenance. Restroom doors do not close properly, the bed above is terribly projected, the room service was a joke. We left the towels on the floor, they were not replaced, the room floor was not cleaned even the room being around 9 m2
The only thing that saved was 1 reception employee who was quite helpful when we needed
Ross Malickis★★☆☆☆
I have stayed in this hotel twice, in he region of one week apart. The hotel is noisy and you can hear everything, starting with the noise from the separate rooms and the cars on road. On first visit the room was well cleaned and beds were made to perfection, but on the second visit it was a nightmare. The Sink in the toilet was not cleaned and full of bogies the beds were made with sks sheet so you had to cover with one layer that was underneath you. Really poor cleaning standards on second visit.

It was very bad hotel. We came and there was no one in the receipt so we used the outomatic meshine to get a room witch took us tewnty minutes. The room was very small, there was to much bugs outside of the hotel and a lot got in to the room. In the room they wrote that there is a "unlimited WiFi with a easy access" It took me 3 hours to access the WiFi and there was a very bad
reception. To conclude the hotel was bad and I will never come back

It is what it is. Cheap and cheerful head down overnighter. Easy to find from main highway. Took 2 rooms twice (outbound and return legs of trip South). All rooms were clean and most things worked. Aircon can be a bit hit or miss, cheapest and quickest option was to pay in advance online. Cardboard door cards were a bit flaky but worked if you had the patience. Keep them away from your mobile. Good restaurant offering 15% discount in adjacent property. Else a chain restaurant selling decent beer over the road in Supermarché car park. McDonalds also within walking distance. Friendly English speaking receptionist on both visits. Extra towels available from reception. Unfussed checkout. Perfectly suitable

Avoid this hotel – Unsanitary conditions and poor service-
I strongly advise against staying at this hotel. While I understand this is a "budget" property, there is a minimum standard of hygiene and hospitality that was completely missed during my stay.
The cleanliness was unacceptable. The bedding was so dusty that every time I moved, dust particles were flying throughout the whole room. It was clear that the linens had not been properly cleaned or maintained.
Additionally, the facilities were poor and restrictive:
Amenities: The fridge was unusable, and there is an unreasonable policy that forbids the use of the microwave after 22:00.
Service: I was very disappointed by the behavior of the male receptionist, whose attitude was unprofessional and not what one expects in the hospitality industry.
You can easily find better-maintained, cleaner, and more welcoming accommodation in Tours for a similar price. Do not waste your money here.
jill webb★★★★★
Our room was basic, but very clean and adequate. Good value for the price we paid.
Holly Hulme★☆☆☆☆
From the moment we arrived, it was dreadful. We got to the hotel just before ten to be told by the man at reception, that he had cancelled our stay because my card came up as “forbidden” when they tried to take payment- despite it already being used in France for my car hire and throughout the day. He told me this whilst smirking. I am autistic, and I double check everything to ensure I understand. The email I received the day before said payment would be taken that day at 11am and an email would be sent if there were any issues with payment. I checked my email all day to ensure there were no issues and the last time I checked was around 9pm when I drove the final part of our 4 hour journey to get to the hotel.
The payment attempt was taken at 9.30pm less than half an hour before our arrival. I have never had a reference of that and to my knowledge is not a valid universal decline code.
I was told that I could rebook again, but it was more expensive. The man at reception denied this and was again rude. I was exhausted and close to tears and being put on the spot, I initially couldn’t find the email with the original price and just wanted myself and my children in our room so paid.
The room was old, tired, and the bunk bed creaked so badly my teenage son slept in our bed two out of the three nights.
Our air con didn’t work, but we could hear next doors clearly all night.
The next morning the maid knocked and asked to clean, I asked if she could come back later but I think she didn’t understand, she didn’t come back that day or the next. On the third day of our trip I requested the room was cleaned. One bed was made and the bathroom bin was emptied.
The bunkbed wasn’t made, no new sheets were ever given and the damp towels and toilet roll weren’t replaced. I had to go down to reception that night to ask for more towels and toilets roll from another unfriendly receptionist. Despite this I thanked her.
Outside of the room, the corridor smelled of smoke and the lift and communal areas were tired and just grim and it was all grey or stained/broken. I have never experienced such a depressing hotel. I stay frequently with ibis for work and have stayed in many ibis budgets and they have been great. This was awful. Given how little I was listened to the two times I spoke to reception staff, I felt it was pointless to address any further issues whilst there and when we left early this morning I just posted my keys in the box

Good budget hotel close to train station and centre of town. Electric power points would be better if flush mounted.
Santiago O★★★★★
I needed something close to the station for one night. I booked it without checking the reviews in Google Maps, and when I read them, I was a bit concerned. However, I can not share the extremely negative reviews. I imagine some people were never in an Ibis Budget and didn't know what to expect.
Having stayed in Ibis Budgets in other countries, I found it from a comparable quality and good for the price. The furniture (double bed with bank bed on top) and desk is the typical one for these hotels. There are no wardrobes or shelves, only a few hangers. The size was for me normal. I've stayed in much smaller, more expensive places (e.g. in Paris). In short, no comfort, but a solid, cheap place to stay. The breakfast was also not that bad, given the price. Little variety and not the highest quality, but did its job. Also the personnel that was on duty during my stay was polite.
If you are looking for fancy, this is not your place, but for a short stay in a well-located area it is ideal.
As an additional comment it is noted that leaving the luggage is not free. It was 2 Euros the piece, but also that's OK compared to lockers and other luggage services.

My second stay at this hotel and I returned as we had such a positive experience previously.
We stayed again overnight on our journey to Spain.
The welcome on reception was wonderful with the gentleman giving us great information on the park and ride tram to go into Tours.

I’ve given 3 stars, which I believe is fair based on expectations. For €55 at a budget hotel, I wasn’t looking for luxury—just a clean room, a comfortable bed, hot water, and functioning air conditioning.
On the positive side, the room was surprisingly spacious and spotless, and the shower was large with plenty of hot water. However, the bed was quite lumpy, and unfortunately, there was no air conditioning—which made for an uncomfortable night.
That said, would I stay again? Absolutely—if I needed a cheap place for a quick 6-hour layover, it would still do the job.

They say you get what you pay for. Just remember that.
The room is very small so if you are traveling on your own real good but as a couple not so. The beds was super comfortable and a super king size so sleeping was OK.
The place is very basic but the price reflex this. Hopefully you are not that big as the bathroom is on the small side but functional.
They do a breakfast that is available from 6sh in the morning. Cooking the croissants early makes for a rather pleasant wake up call.
Walls are thin so you might hear everything going on but hey it was just one night. Next door is a conveniently placed pizza restaurant. Does more than just pizzas and is reasonably priced and you get a discount if you are staying at the hotel.

It really all depends on why you're staying here. Luckily we just needed to sleep for a few hours and this was perfect. The bed was comfortable and clean. The bathroom is extremely small and the sink is in the room but as long as you're there for the night, it's perfect. It was quiet too.

The staff are very nice.
My room was clean and I am happy paying what I paid.
The down falls wet slippy floors in entrance.
Very dangerous.
It's very loud in the morning!
The doors slamming and they are very close to the adjourning rooms.
So the do not disturb sign was a waste of time!
Housekeeping should be my aware of guests sleeping.
I would not stay here again.
As I needed sleep after 10 hours in the car.
The restaurant, I didn't try, so I cannot comment.
There is a vending machine selling chocolate and soft drinks.
The car park is also small.
There is a pizza restaurant opposite and other eateries nearby.
Also the sign for the hotel is difficult to spot.
I drove around many times looking.
No doubt others have as well.

We stayed here for 6 nights due to an unfortunate car accident on the A10. It is what it is - basic but clean and functional. The staff on reception are excellent and helped us with Taxis and things. Shower was hot and linen changed ever day! Ideal for a cheap but comfortable stop for the night to rest. Breakfast available with fresh bread, pastries, cereals, yogurts and great coffee. No complaints.

The hotel is situated in the city and convenient because there are many shops and restaurants around. The parking space is large and secure. The reception is very nice and friendly. One room can be maximum 3 people. I got the room which has a door connected to the room next to, so if you have more than 3 people, you can be with your family members in the room next to, quite convenient. The bed is comfortable. But the room is small, I almost hit the corner of the 3rd bed which is hanging on the top every time I got out from toilet (my son already hit 1 time, and it’s quite hurt). The room looks clean but actually there is some dust on the floor. The toilet is small, it is not that dirty but I don’t feel clean at all. Every time we shower, the water will splash everywhere on the floor because the curtain is a bit too short. But for one night, it is ok. The price is quite cheap comparing to the location.
Jovanovic Radenko★★★★☆
Seen lot of bad reviews, so normally i didn't know what to expect, but room was clean and tidy, hotel employees great and friendly, willing to speak foreign languages, blankets and pillows fresh and smelling nice, obviously changed before my arrival, toilet is little bit small but functional and clean, for a one or two nights ideal hotel . PS: everything you need is 2 mins away, pubs, fast food restaurants, and just to mention everything was working fine, from tv to AC.

I booked 2 rooms to accommodate the whole family. 1 room had no towels. 1 room had mosquitoes. The breakfast bar consisted of brioches (which I found a hair on top of one), baguettes (which I found hard), sliced bread, jam and chocolate spread, orange juice machine and hot drink machine. Bed was comfortable. 24h check in staff available and friendly. Plenty of free parking available.

I want to thank the staff at The People Tours for a great four day stay. I am a solo traveler and I enjoy the safety and security that The People Hostel group offers it's guests.
The staff at this location are excellent. I arrived early and was offered a secure place to lock up my luggage so I could explore the neighborhood. The staff let me know about the great specials at the restaurant and we're extremely helpful in getting me settled.
The People Hostel in Tours has an excellent location that is an easy walk to and from the train station. The neighborhood is great with plenty of places to pick up food for those who use the guest kitchen. The location is great in this very walkable city so there is little need for the extra expense of the local transportation services to explore the town.
The dorms are neat and tidy and have good head room. The mattresses are comfortable. The addition of of the desks and stools in the dorm rooms are handy for those who need a place to work or just put on shoes. My room included a small bathroom and a separate shower room so there was rarely a line up for either room.
Everything was kept neat and tidy by the staff! Thanks for the great stay!

I stayed in a 4 room dorm which was actually perfect for price quality. The rooms are well equipped and only downside, but I noticed this also in the whole city, is the smell of the sewers. Luckily if you close the bathroom door the smell was not here. The hostel is very big, friendly staff and very close to the city centre.

Felt pretty corporate, and not like a hostel. The bunk bed was small and not very comfortable, furnishings cheap. The garden cannot be used for your own foods and drinks even though there was nobody out there. But it is cheap for France. The bike parking was safe and secure. We stayed in 5 Ibis Budgets on our trip, and they were all fine, each with their quirks. This one was by far the nicest - it shares facilities, including a pool, with the Ibis Styles next door. Only slight problem was the lack of AC during a heatwave, but it was still cooler than outside.

Bit of a kerfuffle finding it, 3 ibis next to each other. Ignore 1st one you see, next on right is the 2nd one, when entering car park go left and follow all the way to end of building. Not a problem though staff in all 3 really nice.
So basic room, bed, shower, TV, plugs and a seat. But what was expected, clean and neat, bed was so comfy and sheets crisp. Very quiet.
Walk through to the other hotel on ground corridor for bat and restaurant, nice food and place to have beer.

The only redeeming quality of this "Hotel" is that its better than sleeping on the street. Firstly although the room was clean on first inspection it was extremely hot with no ventilation. The toilets and showers are not in the room witch I could live with if it weren't for the uncertainty of how clean it will be upon entering. The vending machine by reception didn't work. But the worst thing was being brought to the wrong room and given a code that doesn't work then due to my poor French being unable to ask for the correct code with ease.

Rooms are a decent size, clean, small basic kitchenette in a cupboard which is handy, small fridge/freezer, two ring hob and a microwave. No air-conditioning in the rooms so they can get quite warm on sunny days. Staff friendly and off street parking a bonus, although they do now charge 3€ a day for it. Close to a retail center with restaurants which is useful, also has a tram line practically outside the door. The area itself is quiet, can't say I seen anything untoward around here, feels quite safe. Stayed in worse and paid more for that privilege.

We had a great double appartment for 4 adults and I child. Goid facilities and the balcony was a bonus enabling us to eat outside. Easy access with free parking. 100 metres from shopping mall and tram into Tours centre. First time here but will definitely come back.

Terrible expérience. We have chosen this place specifically because they have confirmed2 baby cribs in the apartment since we have twins. At arrival they were not in the room so I had to go down to ask reception who said they would go up to put them. One hour passed and no one came. I went down again and the reception lady said simply she forgot. Some time passed again and I went down again and she said there were no cribs available. And that was it. No solution was provided. Just "sorry". Imagine going to an hotel and there are no beds and they just say sorry. This is what happened. So we had just to figure it out with the babies. Horrible experience. Terrible client service. Not reliable.

A modern and reasonably well equipped Appart Hotel in the South of the city and relatively new. Very friendly and helpful staff who even called us a few hours after we checked out to say we had left some items in our room, lucky for us as we needed them. Unfortunately, the rooms were let down by poor layout & design. Lots of storage space but tiny kitchen, which defeats the object of an Appart Hotel. Otherwise good facilities with Laundry and parking available for a small additional charge.

Bright and modern style, clean and functional, great value.
We needed help with one of our bikes and Bruno went out of his way to make things happen. He was ever so friendly and efficient.
And Amelie in the breakfast room got us more fruit salad and even made fresh scrambled eggs when they were out at the end of breakfast time.
Amazing and helpful staff!!
Thank you so much.
We'lll try to be back 😃
Tips for Booking Cheap Hotels in Tours
Securing the lowest rate requires a bit of strategy and local know-how. The hospitality market in Tours fluctuates based on the academic calendar, festivals, and the peak tourist season from June to August. By following a few practical tips, you can maximize your savings and avoid common pitfalls that lead to overpaying for accommodation.
-
Travel in the Shoulder Season: The best weather and the highest prices usually occur in July and August. Consider visiting in May, June, or September. You will still enjoy pleasant weather for exploring the gardens and châteaux, but hotel rates can drop by as much as 20% to 30%.
-
Look for "Nuit en Plus" Offers: Many independent hotels in the Loire Valley offer promotions where you stay two or three nights and get a discount or a free breakfast. These "long stay" rates are rarely advertised on large booking platforms, so it is worth checking the hotel’s official website or calling directly to ask about multi-night discounts.
-
Consider the Tram Line: The tram system in Tours is highly efficient and connects the main train station to the northern suburbs and the university. Hotels located near tram stops in the north of the city (like Tours Nord) are often significantly cheaper than those in the center, and you can be in the heart of Vieux Tours in under 15 minutes.
-
Avoid University Events: Tours has a large student population. During enrollment periods in September and graduation ceremonies in late spring, budget hotels fill up quickly, driving prices up. If you are flexible, check the local university calendar and avoid these specific weeks.
-
Check for Parking Fees: If you are driving to explore the Loire Valley, a "cheap" hotel can become expensive if it charges €15 a night for parking. Always filter your search to include properties with free parking or compare the total cost including the car. Hotels on the outskirts often offer free lots, saving you money even if the room rate is slightly higher.
-
Book Direct for Breakfast: Online travel agencies often advertise a "room only" rate. However, many small hotels in Tours will offer a heavily discounted or complimentary breakfast if you book directly with them. This can save you €10 to €15 per person compared to eating at a café every morning.
By focusing on these strategies, you can unlock the best value in this beautiful French city. Choosing a budget hotel in Tours allows you to allocate more of your travel funds toward unforgettable experiences, such as wine tastings in Vouvray or guided tours of the stunning Château de Villandry. With a comfortable and affordable place to rest, your adventure in the Loire Valley is sure to be a memorable one.
