12 Best Aesthetic Cafes in Dijon

Stepping into Dijon is like walking through a living museum of Burgundian history, but beyond the medieval palaces and mustard shops lies a surprisingly modern pulse. The city has cultivated a vibrant specialty coffee and design scene that rivals much larger French metropolises. For those who appreciate a perfectly pulled espresso served in a setting that feels like a page from an architecture magazine, Dijon is a hidden gem.

The concept of the "aesthetic cafe" has evolved beyond simply having a few plants and exposed brick. In Dijon, it means curated color palettes, bespoke furniture, and an atmosphere that encourages you to linger over your latte. Whether you are a digital nomad seeking inspiration or a traveler looking for the perfect flat-lay photo, the city offers a diverse range of visual identities.

This guide focuses on spaces where the visual experience matches the quality of the menu. We have prioritized venues that offer not just beautiful interiors but also excellent hospitality and high-quality sourcing. From minimalist Scandinavian vibes to lush, bohemian corners, there is a corner of Dijon designed to suit your specific aesthetic.

Navigating the cobblestone streets to find these spots is part of the adventure. Many of the best locations are tucked away in the historic center, blending modern design with centuries-old architecture. You will find that Dijon’s cafe owners have a deep respect for the city’s heritage while boldly pushing forward with contemporary trends.

We have curated a list that balances the need for visual appeal with the practicalities of a good cafe experience. You won’t find style over substance here; each entry has been selected for its ability to deliver a memorable sensory experience. Prepare to discover spaces where the lighting is just right and the ceramic cups are as artful as the coffee.

Below is a curated selection of the most visually striking and welcoming spaces the city has to offer.

Nice stop after a long drive. The cheesecake and pie were both delicious — well worth trying. The coffee was the letdown though: the “black coffee” wasn’t actually black, and the latte macchiato had way too much coffee powder in it. Great for a sweet treat, but I’d skip the coffee.
Andreea Olteanu★★★★★
Such a cosy and welcoming cafe! We had lunch, food and coffee was delicious. The service was fast and the personnel was nice and attentive. Would definitely return here!
Lily Fang★★★★★
A very cozy and aesthetically pleasing café. Tea is not cheap at 4€, but you do get a small pot. The Christmas rooibos I got was quite good, so I can't complain there. Other drinks are mostly around the 4-5€ range. The fresh-pressed juices looked good and I would definitely love to try those next time. A great spot to catch up with a friend or do some reading.

(It forced me to give a 4 star… if you don’t give a 4 and above, the app says this place cannot be reviewed. 🙁 not nice ..) We ran into their rush hour I guess. Waited for more than 40min to finally have our breakfast by then we were super hungry after travelling and waited and waited. Place is Bert lovely. Food is ok. Paul au chocolate is fine. Good location. But will not re-visit…if you are not too hungry or have nothing to do in the morning then take your time to enjoy the moment could also be nice.

The coffin and cheesecake was delicious. The service was great and friendly. The location was great what a beautiful city Dijon is.

Best Foodie★★☆☆☆
The dough of the Flan dessert is super stale and rough. It has absorbed too much water from the crème part, which means it’s really bad Flan. The sesame cream doesn’t have sesame flavor but only syrup flavor, which means you would feel sugar tsunami 🌊 when eating it without any aromas. It’s totally dessert disaster. They should use better sesame quality or at least add much more sesame…instead of serving food with tons of sugar. It’s like getting diabetes after eating it. They also use too much Gillettin for the cream part in Flan, which caused a weirdly chewy feeling. That’s why it’s not creamy at all. Those tea leaves look amazing but taste bad. It’s just average food with beautiful cover. Super overpriced cafe with low quality of foods. So sad and disappointed Environment is the only pros here

A wonderful coffee shop in the heart of Dijon! The coffee was excellent, the pastries were fresh and delicious, and everything was beautifully presented. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, creating a relaxed atmosphere. A perfect place to take a break while exploring the city. Highly recommended!
Kinsuk 31★★★★★
What an absolute gem of a breakfast spot! No fixed menu? No problem — the sheer variety of choices makes it half the fun! We kicked things off with a Sesame Latte — a little lighter on flavour than I'd normally go for, but honestly? It grew on us and hit the spot in its own charming way! The peanut cookie? Delightful. But the real star of the show was the Croque Monsieur — oh my, what a treat! Every single bite was pure joy. Whoever is behind that recipe deserves a standing ovation! And let's not forget our cheerful server, whose bright smile made the whole experience even warmer. That kind of hospitality is genuinely rare and so welcome! Bottom line — if you haven't been yet, what are you waiting for?! Get yourself there. You won't regret it! ☀️
V Barrote★★★★★
Very nice person at the counter. I asked in French about the ingredients because my wife is pregnant. And seeing that she didn’t speak French he answered to her in english, remarking that she was pregnant. Very nice and polite. We got a tea, a very nice V60 that tastes so much of strawberry and a very good Lemon Cheesecake.
Irina Karpova★★★★★
We went to this cafe because it's the only place where you can drink V60 filter coffee. It was an incredible experience! The coffee was incredible! The barista is passionate about his craft and knows how to impress even a coffee geek like me! The cafe itself has a very diverse coffee menu and excellent pastries. I highly recommend it!

La Causerie des Mondes is a wonderful café/restaurant offering excellent coffee as well as tea and chocolate. They have a great bakery with a delicious assortment of sweet treats, and their menu had a small but interesting selection of meals, as well. Its location is just a few minutes’ walk from the palace but it's away from the jammed streets that plague most of the central area during the tourist season. Consequently, its atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, both in their outside seating area as well as a charming interior space.

This is a wonderful restaurant serving very fresh food and wonderful desserts. We enjoyed a perfect lunch outside with excellent service. When you see a chalkboard menu, stop and try it.

Heavenly food. The pear tart might just have been the best dessert I’ve ever eaten (mom’s pie aside). Friendly people, open patio out front, and fun interior. The meals were great, too!

Amazing butternut squash soup, especially on a cold rainy day the warm creamy rich soup was made for the soul 🫶🏼 Eggs benedict was super too, as well as the creative seasonal coffee and warm drinks that we really enjoyed. Service was exceptional, very efficient and friendly. Definitely worth a visit, merci!!! 😘

Morning Glory Café is an absolutely wonderful place for breakfast. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel at home from the moment you walk in. The menu is both interesting and delicious — you can really tell they care about quality and creativity. The interior has such a relaxed, cozy atmosphere that it almost feels like being in your own living room. A huge bonus: dogs are welcome here, which makes the experience even more special. Definitely one of the best spots in Dijon to start your day! 🐾☕🥐

We came here after reading all the good reviews. The food was very disappointing, bland with no outstanding characteristics. It is the kind of food you eat in a mediocre cafe anywhere in the world. The bread is very dry and salad looks sad. The staff was nice, but could not make up for an overall unmemorable experience. Save your money and and time try one of the many other cafes in Dijon.

Simple and delicious. Good coffee, bread, eggs and bacon. What else can one ask for breakfast… 😋 they also have pancakes and other good stuff…

Really homey café with inexpensive comfort food. The vegetarian entrée and dish is only 7€ total! Be sure to book in advance, as the place is often packed (especially on weekends). You may have to do this in-person since their phone number doesn't work. I believe this is really only a lunch place too, though sometimes they have dinner. Would highly recommend!
Raquel Rivers★★★★★
Went for after dinner drinks, really quirky divey bar in a graffiti filled alley with super friendly bartender and clientele. Cheap drinks, no pretense, absolutely lovely.
Jordan Hughes★★★★★
Our favourite bar in Dijon. Friendly and eccentric crowd, not pretentious like other bars we went to. Huge thanks to the young guy working Friday and Saturday - he was incredibly helpful and welcoming, especially since my French is horrible. He also told me it’s the oldest bar in Dijon which we didn’t know.
Ken Paul★★★★★
Cheap drinks, house wine is great value and the staff and customers make the place. If you can’t speak French someone might speak your language and start a conversation. Go for the atmosphere, good coffee and it is a hole in the wall that is worth finding. Don’t be intimidated by the posters and graffiti on the walls down the alley.
Nikki W.P.★★★★★
I have lived in Dijon for 10 years now and there is no place like the Chez Nous. Eclectic energy of artist, locals, tourists, and friends. I'm going to be honest, I stopped going for a while. The vibez were low, the place was dirty and the atmosphere was just not the same. However, after the pandemic, I wanted to reconnect and started going again. Wow!! Is my new reaction, what a pleasant change. I even bring my clients in after meetings for the returned authentic Dijonnaise vibesz, drinks & food. Market days are fun! Super dog friendly and the dogs love the Chef!!

We had great breakfast and lunch experience in this real french ambience café. Atmosphere is vibrant, food is very tasty, service is very polite and professional. Great choice of traditional dishes. We even got a free after lunch drink, and it was delicious. 😋
Wally Peach★★★★☆
We had a late lunch before an afternoon appointment. Convenient location in the pedestrian downtown area, one block away from the historic Les Halles (G. Eiffel). While the restaurant was busy we were seated almost immediately. Chose a table outside, easily accessible by wheelchair (only one step). Friendly staff attended to us quickly and took our orders. Typical French cuisine and comfort food. Very reasonable prices. Only a few minutes later our dishes were served. We had a Croque Monsieur, Beef Tartare, and a Carpaccio. All served with a side of green salad and French fries.
SEONG YEON LEE★★★★★
Delicious and very reasonably priced. They were kind to us even though we dont speak french well. It looked like a local favorite. I regret not having enough time to try the dessert because we were in a hurry. Even though they seemed very busy, they didn't turn us away. Instead, they kindly asked us to wait at the bar with drink and later showed us to table. I found them friendly.
Philippe Kouache★☆☆☆☆
Don't waste your time and money at this restaurant. It’s a disgrace to Dijon—the gastronomic capital—and a total tourist trap! The beef wasn't even Charolais (just generic EU origin); out of a 300g portion, half was gristle and fat. The sauce was tasteless, and the salad had black leaves. It was truly shameful—and the worst part was the restrooms 😠. Absolutely disgusting. Honestly, give this place a miss. The only saving grace was the service
Alexey Subach★★★★☆
This was one of the few places that were open a bit later than the typical lunch time. The food was descent. By the time we arrived they had run out of all the lunch offerings like steaks and we had to choose from a small set of options. The steak tartare was tasty but it tasted like salad and I could not taste any meat there because the meat was minced too finely and there was too much mayo inside. The carpaccio was accompanied by hard cheese and sundried tomatoes and the meat was also barely distinguishable. The meat was sliced very well in thin pieces though. The dishes came with sides (fries and salad) and those were good. There was a staff member who spoke French and the staff was friendly overall

A lovely café-bar slightly off the main streets, which makes it feel like a more authentic local find. The coffee is very good, the cakes are fresh and tasty, and they also make their own home-brewed juices which are delicious. They serve food as well (we didn’t try it this time), but the atmosphere alone makes it worth stopping by. Cozy, friendly, and a great little spot to escape the crowds.
MellaT TravlleR★★★★☆
The breakfast was tasty and the coffee shop has a nice atmosphere. Everything was fresh and well prepared, but I felt the portions were quite small for the price. It was a simple meal and a bit expensive for what you get.
Frauke Folens★★★★★
Amazing brunch! Quick service and friendly staff. Second time coming here, still as amazed as the first time.
Natalia Govor★★★★☆
The atmosphere is very cozy and homie. You can tell that they put a lot of effort in making it welcoming and cute aesthetic😌. They also had a lot of variety in coffees and matchas. I enjoyed the food options as well. For me the toppings on the bagel were a bit overpowering because of the amount -however this could be personal taste. I really liked my matcha tho! All in all it’s a cute experience and worth trying. The only thing that was a minus was the pricing which find to be a little step for what you’re getting.
Lucinda★★★★★
Thank you, Charlotte for a lovely brunch. My eggs were perfect and I loved the coriander and I Love the pomegranate seeds.

Decent coffee. The salad that was served with the croque was old, had to ask to change it. Could be a cozy place but unfortunately it's incredibly dirty. Tables, walls, windows, glasses... This cafe could use a good scrubbing

A cozy café in Town with a great atmosphere, delicious drinks, and tasty treats. I highly recommend the Pistachio Matcha 🍵 and the Brookie 🍪 Definitely worth a visit!
Carolien Coenen★★★★☆
Cozy café with a nice terrace. This place really makes you feel at home. Loved the decorations. I was told the coffee was very good (I don't drink coffee myself) and can personally recommend the crémant, which was so good that I simply had to order a second glass. We ordered croques for lunch and got served very fast. A great place for a break and some simple food.

The latte frappe was perfection on a warm summer morning. Cute interior and nice terrace outside as well. Highly recommend!

The Croque sandwich was good but we waited 1.5 hours for it and an order of toast. It took 30-45min to even be addressed by staff and an equal amount of time for our food. The coffee was delicious though!

Great espresso!! This was undoubtedly one of the finds of our trip. Once we tried their coffee, we returned every morning—sometimes after grabbing breakfast (and coffee) someplace else. Nothing compared to their espresso. The food is also excellent—perfect spot for a light breakfast or one of their savory toasts (after 11am for toasts, I believe). We tried the fresh granola with yogurt and fruit, the French toast (our daughter’s favorite!), and the egg and cheese toast. Everything was wonderful. I recommend them all. The proprietors go out of their way to make people feel welcomed and valued as customers. The guy even gave us recommendations for coffee spots in Lyon when it was time for us to continue our travels. This coffee shop will be one of our enduring memories from our stay in Dijon. Thank you to the proprietors!!
James Westfall★★★★★
Best coffee I’ve had in France. Some of the best coffee I’ve ever had anywhere. This is a “must visit” if you’re in Dijon. The proprietors of this wonderful establishment put more effort and love into the craft of coffee making than almost anywhere I’ve been. And they’re dog-friendly! We were visiting by several local doggos while we enjoyed the coffee. Could not recommend more strongly. Merci!
Анна Ягода★★★★★
Here I tried the best matcha of my life 💚 The guys at Wolf are truly passionate about what they do, preparing ceremonial matcha with a variety of options. The coffee was great, and the food was good too but THIS MATCHA. You really have to try it.
Tetiana Wolf★★★★★
Exceptionally friendly and delicious! We have there twice within our 2-day stay in Dijon to drink wonderful strawberry matcha 🍵, a perfect refreshment for a hot summer day. There are plenty of other exquisite coffee options and some bites. Of course, I couldn’t miss a place named “Wolf.”
Gayna Verlaecke★★★★★
We discovered this place by chance and loved it so much we came back the very next day — this time with friends. The oat milk cappuccinos are absolutely on point — creamy, perfectly pulled espresso, and served in the most beautiful handcrafted speckled ceramic cups with stunning latte art. The barista was super friendly and clearly loves what he does! That kind of energy makes all the difference. If you’re in Dijon and love specialty coffee, this place is a must.

Decent place for a coffee, meal or a sandwich. A bit too expensive for a coffee (5.5 eur for latte). My second most expensive one in Europe, but not the second best:)

Amazing music and amazing coffee. Super friendly
Cheese Biscuits (Thomas James)★★☆☆☆
Purchased two coffees to go, the cappucino was basically an espresso shot and the latte tasted really bad. These come out of a Nesspresso machine, and was charged just under 10 euro. Definitely not worth the price for coffee, wouldnt recommend the coffee here unfortunately. Service was friendly as an upside.

Very good salad bowls. Hot or cold. With a lot different sorts of ingrediencies. I had idian style with chicken. Homemade lemonade is also very tasty. The CafeBistro is direct inside pedestrian area and close to the notre dame. Prices are reasonable. Interiour is cosy and stylish. They have also seats outside.

Lovely atmosphere and deco. Good banana cake. Wonderful tea. Nice seats and super view over one of the best central city streets. If you're looking for that one place to stop for a cuppa - this is it.

Tips for Enjoying Dijon’s Aesthetic Cafe Scene

To make the most of your cafe-hopping adventure in Dijon, it helps to understand the local rhythm and etiquette. While the city is welcoming, a little local knowledge can ensure you get the best seat in the house and the best experience possible. Here are some essential tips to elevate your visit.

  1. Time Your Visit Carefully: Dijon operates on a relaxed schedule, but prime aesthetic cafes fill up quickly between 10:00 AM and 11:30 AM. If you want to photograph the space without crowds, aim for opening time or the quieter lull after the lunch rush, typically around 2:30 PM.
  2. Look Beyond the Main Squares: While the Place de la Libération is beautiful, the cafes directly on it often cater to tourists. To find the true aesthetic gems with better prices and local clientele, venture into the side streets of the historic center or the up-and-coming neighborhoods near Les Halles.
  3. Embrace the "Café Gourmand": If you want the full aesthetic and culinary experience, order a "Café Gourmand." It is a French staple that comes with an espresso and a selection of miniature desserts. It is usually beautifully plated and perfect for photos.
  4. Respect the Space: Many of these cafes are small, independent businesses with limited seating. If you plan to work on a laptop for several hours, check the cafe’s policy first. Some aesthetic spaces prefer a "no laptop" policy on weekends to preserve the social atmosphere.
  5. Ask About the Beans: Dijon’s baristas are passionate. If you are a coffee connoisseur, ask about the origin of the beans or the roasting profile. Engaging with the staff not only shows appreciation for their craft but often leads to recommendations for other hidden aesthetic spots in the city.

Exploring Dijon through its cafes offers a unique lens into the city’s evolving culture. It is a chance to see how the younger generation is redefining French art de vivre, merging the traditional love for social spaces with a modern, design-forward approach. The contrast of a stark, modern interior set against a 15th-century stone wall is something uniquely special to this region.

Whether you are seeking the perfect backdrop for your next social media post or simply want to enjoy a high-quality beverage in a beautiful room, Dijon delivers. Take your time, wander the historic lanes, and let the aesthetic charm of these spaces provide a restful pause in your Burgundian journey.
