Strasbourg is a city where French and German culinary traditions have been sharing a table for centuries. Walking through the cobbled lanes of La Petite France or around the Gothic cathedral, the aromas of simmering sauerkraut, flaky pastry, and roasting meats pull you toward warm, wood-paneled dining rooms. The dining scene here is not a fleeting trend; it is a deep-rooted expression of Alsatian identity.
Because the city sits on the Rhine, the local menus are defined by a distinct geography. Hearty dishes like baeckeoffe and tarte flambée dominate the winter months, while the fertile Rhine plains supply white asparagus, river fish, and earthy mushrooms in season. Understanding this rhythm is the key to eating well in Strasbourg; the best tables respect the calendar as much as the recipe.
For visitors, the sheer density of restaurants can be overwhelming, with tourist traps often sitting directly next to historic institutions. Knowing how to distinguish a genuine winstub from a generic brasserie is essential. A true winstub is characterized by its intimate, rustic atmosphere, checkered napkins, and a short menu focused on regional wines and slow-cooked dishes.
This guide cuts through the noise to highlight establishments that prioritize authenticity over spectacle. Whether you are looking for a Michelin-starred experience, a cozy corner for choucroute, or a modern bistro pushing Alsatian flavors forward, there is a table for you. We have evaluated these spots based on consistency, sourcing of ingredients, and the warmth of their hospitality.
In a city that serves as the capital of Europe, the restaurant scene is equally cosmopolitan. Yet, the best places never lose sight of their Alsatian roots, offering a sense of place that you simply cannot find elsewhere. Prepare to eat slowly, drink local Riesling, and embrace the generous spirit of the region.
Below is a curated list of the 15 best restaurants in Strasbourg, ranging from historic landmarks to contemporary favorites. Each one offers a distinct reason to pull up a chair and stay awhile.

The food here is beautifully presented, and the service is truly lovely. The staff are warm, welcoming, and speak excellent English. We booked the lunchtime menu, and the quality of the food made it excellent value for money.
The meat was clearly high quality and cooked exceptionally well. Bread was served with both the starter and main course, which was a nice touch. We didn’t have much room left for dessert, so we ordered one to share, and the waiter kindly served it as two smaller individual portions for us. It was so delicious that we completely forgot to take a photo of the dessert.
I definitely recommend making a reservation, as it gets busy - and after eating here, it’s no surprise why.

Fine dining food at its exceptional best with a down to earth service approach from the staff which was much appreciated.
Attentive staff ensured the menu was clearly explained at every moment of the dining experience. The extra tasting additions at the start and finish of the meal were a generous touch of hospitality.
The food was prepared with much thought, sense of taste and imagination.
Highly recommend this restaurant for a top notch experience.

Everything was amazing! We booked lunch and it was super easy to do through their website. As soon as we walked in, we were welcomed with a smile and shown to our table. Camille took care of us and did a great job explaining everything. She spoke both English and Spanish, which was really appreciated. She was amazing, and we really loved being looked after by her.
The food was 10/10. It’s a set menu with a starter, main course, and dessert, and everything was delicious.
If I had more time, I would definitely come back. Thank you for everything!
Note: Reservation is a must.

We picked this restaurant for lunch. The had a good prix fixe menu where 2 courses or 3 courses were available. I also enjoyed a cold, crisp rosé wine with lunch.

We ate here on Thursday June 11th for a dinner reservation at 7pm. Our waiter we had here was the best waiter we had for our entire trip to Europe. I forget his name but he was so friendly, attentive and explained the tapas concept of the restaurant and made reccomendations. The table was lovely and the restaurant was quiet enough to chat with a nice vibe.
The food we ordered was very good. We had a tarteflammbe and mini burgers, we also ordered two of their desserts to share.
Great experience overall! Wonderful spot and you can make reservations online which I appreciated.

What an amazing experience we had here and what a lovely idea on presenting tapas style versions of the regional cuisine.
I would especially recommend this place for those who have only one day to spend in Alsace but would like to try different Alsatian dishes in one sitting.
But I would also suggest for anyone who loves sharing different dishes together and have a wonderful time to give this place a try.

Couldn’t love our experience enough, I came here with my mom a couple of days ago and neither of us had experienced cuisine like Les Chauvins provided. It was spectacular. The service was amazing too, we were greeted and checked on warmly by every staff member throughout our dinner. I’d like to give a special shout out to Mael, he made us feel so welcome and truly cared about our experience. He also gave the BEST reccomendations. I will dream about the asparagus cappuccino.

We had a lovely experience at the restaurant! The highlight for us was the service — our waiter (we didn’t manage to get his name) did an amazing job guiding us through menu — especially as non-French speakers. He offered thoughtful suggestions and every recommendation was spot on! It made the whole experience more personal and relaxed. Would definitely come back 🙂

Great Tapas Restraunt! Have to get tbe Tarte Flambe while in Strousberg - don’t be fooled by its size, it’s incredibly thin (thinner than New Haven Pizza crust) and delicious! We also enjoyed the cheese sampling, the Brie was our favorite. Each cheese was a soft cheese, which was enjoyed with a side of bread. Loved the seasonal Christmas beer which was served in a boot, and the chocolate lava cake!

L’Oignon made for an outstanding lunch. Every dish was executed with remarkable precision, from the rich and perfectly balanced onion soup and delicate Alsatian snails to the beautifully fresh beef carpaccio. The beer and honey braised pork shank was exceptionally tender, and the traditional sauerkraut showcased the authentic flavors of Alsace. A memorable dining experience with impeccable quality throughout. Reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak hours.

I made reservations for my son and an elderly friend that was traveling with us. I am so glad we did. It was so so good. We had the beef carpaccio which was fresh & delicious. We had 2 orders of delicious big juicy escargot & i had French onion soup which was phenomenal & my son had the kinder steak medium rare & salad. I had tiger steak which was absolutely delicious & Oma had the lamb which in itself was spectacular. Everything was so worth it and I would 100% recommend and you DO need reservations...they book out completely.

The place is definitely a go to place while in Strasbourg. The onion soup was really good. The Tiger steak was incredible! The desserts were ok too.
The staff and service was really outstanding. They were helpful, friendly and made time to talk even though they weee so busy.
The place was full so would recommend booking if you can.

We stumbled upon this restaurant while exploring Petite France and decided to give it a try since we were getting hungry. Luckily, we arrived just before the kitchen closed and managed to get a table.
Since it’s located in such a touristy area, we honestly didn’t have high expectations but we were pleasantly surprised. Every dish was beautifully prepared and packed with flavor.
The escargot was incredibly buttery and rich, with a wonderful garlic and herb butter that was perfect for dipping bread. The beef carpaccio was probably one of the best I’ve ever had - fresh, perfectly seasoned, and bursting with flavor. The risotto was creamy and elevated by a vibrant green herb sauce that added a fresh, unique twist. And the foie gras simply melted in our mouths like butter.
The service was friendly, and despite arriving near closing time, we never felt rushed. If you’re visiting Petite France, don’t overlook this place just because it’s in a tourist area. It turned out to be one of our favorite meals in Strasbourg. Highly recommended!

This is a wonderful restaurant right in the historic centre of Strasbourg. The food was absolutely delicious - the highlights being the Alsace chicken supreme and the French onion soup. The staff were very friendly and despite being very busy the service was pretty quick. Highly recommend!

This place is located in a more calm alley within the busy streets of the centre. We came on a saturday later in the evening. We were accepted without a reservation, but we did have to wait in queue, which is absolutely fine. We got seated on a bigger table with another group of people that also did not have a reservation.
The staff was very friendly and quick to help. We got our food relatively fast. The food was amazing and not expensive at all for the quality and portion size you get.
Sadly there are a few lesser details I must point out. The seats were not all of the best quality, most of our water glasses had small pieces missing and a beggar came by our table to ask for money with the waiter standing right with us, not doing anything about it.
To sum it up:
Definitely come by if you want to eat good quality food later in the evening, but make sure to make a reservation if you do not wish to wait for a while before getting a table.

A great choice for families!
We found this restaurant through online reviews, and it was definitely worth a visit. The atmosphere is lovely, with lots of greenery that makes the place feel relaxing and inviting.
We arrived at around 5 PM and only had to wait a short time for a table. The staff were very friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout our meal.
The food was well-prepared and flavorful, although the taste wasn’t quite what we personally prefer. One thing we really appreciated was the kids’ menu. Instead of typical children’s meals, they offer smaller portions of their regular dishes, which is a great idea and much more suitable for kids.
Overall, it’s a great choice for families, thanks to its welcoming atmosphere, thoughtful kids’ menu, and excellent service. We’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing place to enjoy a meal with family.

Perhaps the restaurant’s popularity has attracted a lot of tourists. However, because it’s so crowded, the quality has also been affected to some extent. People come here hoping to enjoy delicious, special dishes. But if you’re just looking to fill your stomach, there are plenty of other places that are just as good, cheaper, and don’t require squeezing in and waiting.
I was a bit disappointed to see the bottom of the Flammkuchen burnt black. Maybe that’s meant to be this dish’s signature style? If so, it’s not for me, since it had a bitter taste.
My salad plate cost €9.80 — just some salad, corn, a bit of dressing, and crispy fried chicken.
The upside would probably be the service staff and the location.

We came for dinner and there was already a wait. Good news is the wait wasn't long, especially if you're open to being seated inside.
Once seated, it did feel like a nice French atmosphere. Stoney walls, low ceilings, and music all added to the ambiance.
The restaurant offers a smaller menu, still plenty of options but not overlydone. to me, that's always a sign that food is prepared fresh.
Then starters came out pretty quick, a watermelon feta salad as well as some sauerkraut balls. I am not a fan of sauerkraut, but these things were delicious!
Our dinner was the flamekuchen and fish and chips (limited pescatarian options). Initially, they brought us the wrong dish out but let us keep it once they brought the right one out. it was definitely too much food for us.
however, everything was delicious!! very well made, more than plentiful serving sizes, ingredients felt fresh - food was delightful.
overall, definitely worth visiting. if you want to sit outside, I would suggest reservations in advance.
it should be noted that that vegetarian or pescatarian options are a bit limited.

We went in rather early without a booking and we were lucky enough to get the last table. We were 3 people but we sat at a 2 person table.
This place serves Alsace food which is influenced by both the French and German cuisine as Alsace was previously under the German rule.
We had the traditional Alsace food a spaetzle munster, which is cheese with egg noodles and a waedele au munster, which is the pork knuckle. The cheese in all of the dishes were so nice. The pork knuckle was nice, but the noodle was terrific. The other dish we had was the tarte flambée, which is basically pizza with a lot of cheese and it also taste great. It was such a memorable meal. We got one dry and one sweet wine that we ask the waiter to commend us. Both great. The price on this meal was also surprisingly cheap, considering the quality of the food.
Highly recommend. We recommended some friends who were going to Strasbourg to try this restaurant but it was full and they couldn’t get in.

Solid restaurant close to the train station with many Alsatian classics. Everything tasted good and portions were generous. We particular enjoyed how the sauerkraut wasn't as sour/tart as others we had while in Alsace.

Without a doubt, this was my favorite restaurant during our trip through Alsace. Every detail exceeded our expectations.
The tuna quiche was absolutely outstanding, and the main course I chose was cooked to perfection. We ended the meal with a delicious pear tart, which was the perfect finale to an unforgettable dining experience.
Among all the restaurants we visited in the region, this one was by far the best. I feel incredibly lucky to have found it, and it was a real pleasure to meet the talented chef behind these amazing dishes. You can truly taste the passion and craftsmanship in every bite.
The staff were exceptionally kind, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit. The restaurant itself was spotless, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere. On top of that, the prices were very reasonable considering the outstanding quality of the food and service.
If you’re visiting Alsace, don’t miss the chance to dine here. It was one of the highlights of our trip, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Service was fantastic. The young man serving me was attentive but let me take my time. Loved the escargot and kouglaf glacé. The jambonneau was decent and quite large.
Worth the price and visit

Great Alsatian restaurant! We arrived on Friday night and the restaurant was fully booked. However our hotel owner had some connection to them and squeezed us in! The food was great - their flambees were higher quality compared to others I had in the town. Sausages were also good, but i cannot comment since im not an expert on that.
The only downside was that we had to wait 30 min to get a check because the place was so busy!
The owners(?) servers(?) were very kind and helpful. We had to use Google translator a bit, but went out well.

Absolutely excellent!
The ambiance of the restaurant was elegant and refined — calm without feeling too quiet. We enjoyed the 3-course surprise menu with wine pairing, and every dish was beautifully balanced in flavor. The main course, featuring duck paired with a smooth, well-rounded red wine, was especially memorable.
The staff were courteous and attentive, thoughtfully explaining each dish and wine pairing throughout the meal.

My favorite meal in France (between Paris, Strasbourg, Lyon, and Nice) and one of my all time favorite restaurants! We chose the six course surprise dinner menu. One of the courses was a potato dish cooked to absolute perfection (unfortunately did not get a good picture). Potatoes are one of my favorite foods and this was the best form of potatoes I’ve ever had. The other courses were delicious as well with a lot of variety! I believe this restaurant is on the Michelin Guide but does not have a star. I don’t know how the award is decided, but in my uncultured opinion, this restaurant is better than several restaurants I’ve been to with a Michelin star.
Tha Ktsang★★★★☆
We had a lovely time, the food was great and the server was very friendly, the pricing is also fair in comparison to the food being served. The only thing that really got in the way, was the high temperature in the restaurant. At the beginning it was tolerable but as the place started filling up, it got really warm and we continued our menu surprise accompanied with a lot of sweat, many people had hand fans too. we really enjoyed the food but we were also glad when it was time to go.

Look no further if you want a memorable French meal in the heart of Strasbourg! On the corner of a lovely street by Le Petit France is this magnificent French restaurant that offers unbeatable lunch specials. Their menu is creative, indulgent and very reasonably priced. We fully enjoyed the 2-course meals with a bonus of gazpacho and meringue/tarts. What we thought would be a simple break for lunch turned into one of the best French meals we’ve had on our travels (and we’re world travelers!). And oh the macaron - THE best I’ve ever had! The floral decor and extremely lovely staff rounded out our perfect visit.
Tout va tre bien, c’est magnefique ici!

We had an enjoyable dinner here. We came without a reservation and were seated quickly. We took the appetizer+main course. The first dish, the amuse-bouche, was a cold asparagus soup with walnuts. A delight. Then we had a spring tartelette and an octopus pie, the latter being truly special. For mains we had pork knuckle and guinea fowl. Both were decent, but unevenly salted (unsalted sides, too-salted meats). Afterwards a few small sweet things, nothing to rave about. For beers I was offered 1664, "a local beer". I think they meant it as a joke but my French is not yet good enough to be sure.
Michael Clark★★★★★
Came here at the recommendation of our concierge- and very glad we did. Reservation absolutely essential. Menu is small but perfectly formed. But if you’re fussy/picky it may be too small for you. Food was amazing. Staff were friendly. Wine list was good. Atmosphere was great. Recommended
Max Falck★★★☆☆
The fois gras was one of the best I’ve had, a part from that the food and the service was seriously underwhelming. Based on previous comments here I was looking forward to a great evening of French food and service. Apart from the starter me and my partner received Gewürztraminer with prawns, dry chicken and confused, slow service. At half the price I might recommend this place for non foodies, under all other circumstances I recommend you keep looking
Patrick Helmig★★★★★
Yes, just yes. I’d you are here, go there. It’s the most straightforward recommendation to give. The restaurant has a relaxed, private and welcoming atmosphere. I’d pay double to be able to be able to experience the kitchen‘s excellence for the first time again though. Unpretentious, yet clever and creative. L‘eveil des Sens makes some modern fine dining experiences look pale and and boring.

I absolutely loved the restaurant! We sat on the second floor to enjoy the architectural ambiance—it was beautiful. The materials in the dining room—leather armchairs, wood, rustic walls, and warm lighting—truly create a "sexy-chic" atmosphere. The menu is delicious; you can really taste the quality of the ingredients and the touch of a Mediterranean chef. The food is light, and they offer a very original wine and cocktail list.

We booked rooms for our Strasbourg stay with our kids at the Les Harás Hotel and after a long day of travel decided to book the Brasserie Des Harás as our first evening in France dinner. Based on the reviews I knew we were going to have a great dinner, but Oh My! Our experienced exceeded our expectations. From the atmosphere set inside a historic stable to the absolutely mind blowing menu and the service, it was more than we dreamed of. After a hectic day of travel on train from Germany, this was the exact slow down amazing evening spent on the hotel ground we needed. The perfect recharge with amazing food ( thank you Chef!), amazing wine and top notch service from Gourav. I worked for 15 years in luxury hospitality brand and the experience at Brasserie Des Harás is what my souls craves. Thank you to the team for truly loving what you do because it shows! MERCI!

Have had the pleasure of dining here twice. It feels Michelin but not quite there yet. Both times I ordered a steak option, with this one it felt the veggie with the steak was just a weird combination and portion size. The fries were very good with it. Unfortunately the appetizer I ordered was not available, either. They can get busy with larger groups and have smaller ones feel a bit neglected. It is quite pricey. They have a super unique staircase. It's still a place we will go to again and enjoyed.

We had a lovely meal here for our first night in Strasbourg. Our server Gourav was just amazing. From the moment we were seated until we left, he was extremely engaged and attentive to our needs. I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant Blue Flamingo in Strasbourg, France.
We visited this restaurant for New Year’s Eve dinner 2025, for which a special menu was offered. The setting is truly unusual and memorable: a floating boat permanently moored along the canal, giving the impression of escaping the city while remaining right at the quay. Inside, the atmosphere is softly lit and intimate, which works particularly well for an evening like New Year’s Eve.
Service was a real highlight. The team consisted mostly of young, dynamic, and highly motivated staff, extremely friendly and attentive. They checked in regularly, were genuinely warm, and made us feel very welcome throughout the evening.
As part of the New Year’s menu, we started with amuse-bouches, followed by foie gras with toast, which was pleasant and well executed, though not particularly memorable. This was followed by a scallop carpaccio, nicely sliced and visually well presented, although it could have benefited from slightly bolder seasoning.
One of the standout dishes was the lobster course, very well executed, featuring claw meat prepared inside a pastry shaped like a lobster body — both creative and tasty. The beef dish that followed was also very successful, perfectly cooked and served with a flavorful sauce. A truffle Brie with salad provided a nice interlude before dessert, which was enjoyable, even if not extraordinary.
Overall, this restaurant is an excellent choice for couples looking for a romantic, slightly out-of-the-ordinary evening, especially for a date or a special occasion. The cuisine is solid and enjoyable, the setting is original, and the service is genuinely caring and attentive — a combination that makes for a very pleasant experience.

The staff gave us a warm welcome, even as tourists, and the dishes were delicious and the portions were generous.
I was truly impressed by how much more comfortable it was here than at popular restaurants in Paris.
I would definitely like to visit this restaurant again!

The food was good! One of the best mushroom soups and risotto I’ve ever had. The only thing I wasn’t impressed by was the duck breast. It tastes good but It was a bit though an chewy. I had better duck breast in Lyon. However, no matter how good the food is, if the service was not at par, the whole experience is ruined. There was a big group in the restaurant and we noticed that a the service attention was at that group.
I take a lot of photos so I am certain with these following info. We placed an order and got our first glasses of wine at 19:33. We got our entrees at 20:11, and got our plats at 20:55. We got our desserts at 21:35. This dinner took over 2.5 hours. There’s over 30 minutes gap between the appetizer and the main course. I’ve never had that happened to me anywhere in the world before. I almost asked for a blanket so I can take a nap while they serve me the next dish.

Because of this restaurant I am in love with french cuisine. Thanks for the beautifully made dishes. Lunch menu is simple which saves me a lot of time deciding what to eat. It's my first time trying french cuisine in a restaurant that is super.

This is a nice place to be in visually with its blue accents. It's not a big space, so probably better to book, especially on the weekend. The service was friendly & welcoming, but they did leave us for 15mins without asking about drinks. My beetroot tartare starter was something a bit different, but very enjoyable. My partner liked his poultry/pork pate. I had a main where cauliflower was the star. There were 3 vegetarian choices. My partner had the frog's legs. Small but tasty. He got vegetables with it, which were lovely. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience.

Fabulous little spot. Cozy in the evening. Phenomenal food, classics but done well. Can't go wrong with the frog legs, bone marrow and the pecan dessert (still dream about it time to time). Servers were attentive, friendly and welcoming. Never felt rushed.

We enjoyed our lunch and would definitely recommend La Hache. The bistro has a good vibe, the dining room is spacious with a high ceiling and appealing decor. The staff were helpful, polite and attentive. The food was overall good. My choice of sausage and mash was a bit underwhelming but the steak tartare and starters were good. I think pretty good value for money.

This is what food tastes like when it simply cannot be improved—because it is already perfect. I visited the restaurant on my first day for lunch, and the experience was so exceptional that I had to come back the very next day, this time for dinner. I tried pork cheeks with mashed potatoes, a chocolate cake with apricot sauce, a beef steak, and tiramisu. Every single dish was absolutely flawless. The meal was beautifully complemented by excellent Alsatian wines.
The staff is attentive, welcoming, and highly professional. And what happens in the kitchen is nothing short of pure magic.
My sincere thanks to the entire team at La Hache. I truly believe this was not my last visit to Strasbourg—or to this remarkable culinary gem.

This is our favorite restaurant. We have been here many times with my husband, and we have also brought our parents.
The service is always excellent and fast, and the staff are friendly and welcoming.
The chef always surprises us with the quality of the food. Every meal is delicious and consistently well prepared.
We will definitely be back again!

amazing food! Incredible staff!!!! It was a really hot day, so it was quite warm inside, but this is something hard for them to control, they had a few fans.
Food was outstanding, really! And the location is great! Really recommend!

Great experience. Service was superb. Our waitress did a wonderful job. The food was very good. Portions were substantial enough to leave satisfied but not uncomfortable. The interior was mellow and well spaced between tables.

Hands down the best dining experience we've had in our brief stay in Strasbourg. The staff was incredible, and very helpful with our choices of wine and meals. The dishes were excellent, from the presentation to the taste. Timing of courses was perfect and portion sizes left us satisfied without feeling overly full. The selection of wine was a Pinot noir that paired very well with the dishes.
We highly recommend Le Stras' for your dining experience here and will return should we find ourselves in Strasbourg again.

I ate here twice as did others in our Botique hotel…it’s a gem. Fish was excellent as was the veal ragout one of the top meals in the city for us.

5 stars. Absolutely loved this place. The atmosphere feels like stepping into an old Strasbourg postcard with traditional Alsatian dishes, cozy streets, and amazing service. The onion soup was rich and flavorful, the fish dish was incredibly fresh, and the baked specialties were comforting and delicious. Everything tasted homemade and authentic. Friendly staff, beautiful presentation, and a perfect spot to experience local cuisine in Strasbourg. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants during the trip and a place I would happily visit again.

Au Vieux in Strasbourg was one of our highlights for the day during our visit to the Alsace region. 🇫🇷 The restaurant has a wonderfully authentic French atmosphere, with elegant décor, excellent service, and high-quality food that made every dish a pleasure to enjoy. We loved the whole experience, and I would happily recommend it to anyone visiting Strasbourg. 🍷🥘😊

Very nice, cozy atmosphere. We had the French onion soup, the fish choucroute, and tarte flambée. Everything was good and the portions were generous. The service was a little slow, and it was sometimes hard to get the servers’ attention to order and to get the check, but they were friendly. Overall, a pleasant experience.

We had a very pleasant meal. The waiter was friendly and very helpful. The food was tasty and the portions were large. The inside of the restaurant is smaller but very pleasantly decorated with details that go well with the steyle of the historical building.

The place was cozy and the waiters were very nice and serviceable. The selection looked promising, the escargots were extremely good. The main dishes were a bit underwhelming and not as good as we expected them to be, definitely not according to their price. The crème brûlée was fantastic, maybe the best one I have ever had. It was not on the menu though, so you should ask if they have it! Overall, it was a nice place but not worth the high prices.

It was a sad night, with a sorry dinner. After 2 weeks in Europe, It was the first bad meal we had.
First of all, let it be clear that their current menu is completely different than what you see here through google maps. Had I known what was actually on offer, I wouldn't have even stepped in, as the options did not look appealing to me.
It was already disappointing when I realized their current menu did not have the options I was eager to try, but as we were already seated, we decided to choose something anyway and hope for the best.
Unfortunately, the member of the staff who took our orders didn't compreheend one of the dishes we ordered, and we were served a "boar" instead of a "porgy". Regardless, both dishes served to us were bland and uninspired, and the pear served with the boar was described by my brother as outright disgusting. Bland sauce, tasteless legumes, cold bread, fishbone in the fish, chewy boar meat, awful cabbage...
Unfortunately, I cannot really recommend the restaurant based on my experience, but maybe It was just a bad day.

We had a wonderful meal and a great time. What I really appreciated was the fact that they clearly took the presence of our dog into consideration for de selection of our table. We had a ‘secluded’ spot The escargots were very good and the tuna steak amazing: inside juicy & tender and outside almost crispy. It was a busy evening, so the time between courses was a bit longer than I normally experience, but this wasn’t a problem for us.

We made a last minute reservation for 3 - with a little doggie too - and we had a wonderful night. We all started with some local wines - and ordered a bunch a yummy foods - from the escargot to the warm chocolate lava cake. Cheese course was amazing too - I recommend you try it! The co-owner Paulina was so sweet and did everything to make us comfortable. A gem of a place!!! Thanks for such a great evening!

We had the best time at this restaurant. Our favourite meal on our entire trip, in fact! It’s a little outside the main tourist area, so the food is a lot more authentic. The portions were generous, and you can tell the ingredients they use are super fresh. Highly recommend their salmon, and a crème brûlée for dessert. We were also able to have a lovely conversation with the kind waiter. While we dined, there was a regular customer there, which makes it an even better sign. Highly recommend this hidden gem when visiting Strasbourg!
Michelle Wong-Barroy★★★★★
One of the more reasonably priced restaurants offering Alsatian fare was what attracted us to this place in the first place. Slightly hidden from the more touristy areas.
I like how they also allow you to choose which side dish to go with the dishes.
When we arrived, there were already two big groups and several other tables filled up. Despite all that, the service was swift. The portions are just perfect.
The best part was the kougelhopf glacée that we shared as dessert.
Bruce Richardson★★★★★
As the name says, this is a wee restaurant that serves quality French dishes, unlike the heavier menues found in many Strasbourg venues. We three ordered sea bass and ended with a couple of yummy desserts that included a chocolate tart topped with popcorn-a brilliant combination of sweet and savory! Very kind service.

Fantastic experience at La Petite Mairie. As a native of Strasbourg, I was there maybe 20 years ago. Call it nostalgia or anything else, but I wanted to go back.
It changed. And it’s amazing.
A team of young people is there, greeting you nicely, taking care of your needs. We had the perfect table.
The food is gorgeous. Not a crazy menu, a condensed classic list of Alsacian (I can’t write Alsatian) specialities.
The Cordon Bleu was great, the baba au rhum generous. The tarte flambée could have been in the oven a little longer.
Highly recommended.

We started with the Foie Gras as a starter, which was absolutely delicious. The crispy bread paired perfectly with the rich, buttery foie gras that melted in the mouth, complemented by a sauce that balanced the flavors beautifully. For the main dishes, we had the Pork Knuckle and Chicken Vol-au-Vent. The Pork Knuckle portion was quite large, even for two people (but hey, when in Strasbourg!), and it was so flavorful that we couldn’t leave a bite behind. The Chicken Vol-au-Vent was decent, though the pastry was a bit thin. We ended the meal with a delightful Crème Brûlée, which was the perfect way to wrap up the dining experience.

Awesome winstub serving traditional and soulful Alsatian fare. Located in the shadow of the Cathedral, its famous "teddy bear" facade draws you in, but the kitchen provides a truly authentic reason to stay.
The service is efficient and professional, even during the high-demand dinner rush.
Skip the apple streusel!

Our first meal in Strasbourg did not disappoint. The May weather was kind enough to let us sit outside this charming restaurant on a pedestrianised street opposite the museum. It took a few minutes to receive our menus but when we did we were spoiled for choice. Our waiter helped us choose a pitcher of delicious Alsace wine and we both chose meals from the 'grandmother''s' side of the menu (pork knuckle for him, salmon for me). Delicious and generous, as was the final course of Munster cheese. Thank you for looking after us so well and for providing us with a meal.we will remember forever.

Main course was great, the Baeckeoffe. Had a small beer and glass of wine, and a blueberry tart, all for less than 50 EUR. The tart was mostly good, I just didnt cherish the fact that it was on display, uncovered, not so far from the door. The thought that many people must have walked past it and the door being opened next to it throughout the day is not something I cherish.

My family and I had lunch here after doing the Strasbourg river boat tour. This was near the Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Strasbourg, we should have know this was going to be a tourist trap. Food was mediocre at best. Servers did stop by frequently to check in but likely because we were seated in a hallway like section.
S R★★☆☆☆
Disappointing service and poorly presented food
We booked a table in advance, but despite empty tables being available in the more comfortable upper dining rooms, we were seated at a tiny table right in a busy walkway by the door. As you can see from the photo, the table was so small it could barely accommodate two glasses and a bottle, making for a very cramped and uncomfortable experience.
The food arrived quickly, but the presentation was a major letdown. We ordered the Choucroute, and it was served in a remarkably sloppy manner. The ingredients looked like they had been thrown onto the plate without any care or professional touch—certainly not what you expect at these prices.
The service felt more like a motorway service station café than a proper restaurant. It lacked any sense of hospitality or attention to detail. Overall, a very mediocre experience in a city known for much better
Practical Tips for Dining in Strasbourg
Navigating the dining culture in Strasbourg requires a bit of local knowledge, as the pace and customs differ slightly from other major French cities. The following advice will help you secure a table and enjoy your meal like a local, ensuring you avoid the common pitfalls of peak tourist seasons.
Book ahead, especially in December. Strasbourg’s famous Christmas market brings millions of visitors, and the top restaurants fill up weeks in advance. Even on a standard weekend, popular winstubs rarely have space for walk-ins after 7:30 PM.
Embrace the winstub etiquette. In traditional Alsatian taverns, it is common to share a table with strangers when the room is full. This is not poor service; it is a sign of a lively, authentic establishment. Be prepared to sit elbow-to-elbow with locals.
Don’t skip the aperitif. A glass of Crémant d’Alsace or a local Muscat is the standard way to start a meal. It wakes up the palate for the rich, often pork-heavy dishes that follow, and it signals to the staff that you are ready to settle in for a leisurely evening.
Ask about the daily specials. Many restaurants in Strasbourg operate with a fixed printed menu, but the real magic is often written on a chalkboard. Look for seasonal items like asperges (asparagus) in spring or game dishes in autumn, which reflect the true quality of the kitchen.
Understand the wine list geography. Alsace wines are labeled by grape variety, not village, which can confuse visitors. Riesling is dry and pairs perfectly with choucroute, while Pinot Gris offers a richer body for poultry and creamy sauces. Do not hesitate to ask the sommelier for a pairing; local pride in the wine list is immense.
Leave room for the cheese course. Between the main course and dessert, the French tradition of a cheese plate is alive and well here. Look for Munster, a pungent local cheese often served with cumin seeds, which offers a true taste of the Vosges mountains.
Strasbourg is a city that rewards the patient eater. The local cuisine is not designed for a quick bite; it is designed for conversation, comfort, and a deep appreciation of the land. By choosing a restaurant from this list, you are not just feeding yourself—you are participating in a cultural ritual that has defined this border city for generations.
Whether you are seated in a vaulted cellar dating back to the 14th century or a sleek, modern dining room overlooking the Ill river, the spirit of hospitality remains the same. Take your time, order another glass of local wine, and let the city’s culinary history reveal itself one course at a time.
