Dijon may be world-famous for its mustard, but the historic capital of Burgundy has quietly become one of France’s most compelling gastronomic destinations. While the city is often associated with hearty classics like Boeuf Bourguignon and Escargot, its proximity to the Atlantic coast and a growing demand for refined cuisine have cultivated an impressive seafood scene.
The culinary landscape here blends the rustic charm of Burgundian dining with the delicate precision required for excellent fish and shellfish. Whether you are looking for a lavish plateau de fruits de mer or a contemporary tasting menu featuring line-caught fish, the options are surprisingly diverse. Dijon’s restaurateurs have mastered the art of sourcing high-quality ingredients, ensuring freshness despite the city’s inland location.
From elegant Michelin-starred tables to cozy, family-run brasseries, the city offers a venue for every budget and occasion. Many establishments source their oysters directly from Brittany and the Marennes-Oléron basin, while others focus on freshwater fish from local rivers. This dedication to sourcing means you can enjoy the taste of the French coast without leaving the heart of the Côte-d’Or.
Navigating the dining scene in a city known primarily for meat can be tricky for seafood lovers. You want to avoid tourist traps that serve frozen fish or overcooked shellfish. That is why we have curated a list based on consistency, ingredient quality, atmosphere, and the expertise of the chefs behind the pass.
This guide highlights the establishments that treat seafood with the respect it deserves. You will find everything from intimate spots perfect for a romantic dinner to bustling oyster bars ideal for a casual lunch. Each recommendation offers a unique take on the bounty of the sea, ensuring your culinary journey through Dijon is memorable.
Below, you will find the definitive list of the best seafood restaurants in Dijon, curated to help you eat like a local and avoid the mediocre.

We thoroughly enjoyed the quality of the food and the kindness and attentiveness of the waiter (and all the staff, of course). They made sure we had everything we needed and let us know if there was a slight wait before being served. The atmosphere and setting are lovely; it feels like being on a boat! We'll definitely be back, thank you 🙏🏻

We spent the night at the neighbouring hotel and this place was suggested to us.
Food was great. We had grilled prawns, scallops, fish soup, etc. All were good.
Best wishes to the restaurant and its team. Good job!

We had dinner and the ordered seafood was delicious. Likewise the service we had is nice, funny and professional. Love the interior.

Seafood platter was excellent, the fish was undercooked but was changed

Really nice seafood restaurant. Stopped by on a road trip through France
Maja Kofoed★☆☆☆☆
Undercooked rice, boring food and wrong orders…
The food we ordered did not match the menu description. The grilled seafood platter tasted only of char and the poop had not been removed from the shrimp.
Food generally lacked taste (except fish and chips, that was fine)
We ordered a virgin drink and specified twice that we did not want alcohol, the drink arrived tasting *very* strongly of rum.
We did not even leave full.. went to Burger King after, and that tasted better….
Honorable mentions:
• Sexism - Woman at our table ordered large beer, waiter insisted on a small, waiter did not argue with the men at our table who also ordered large beers.
• Lukewarm water for the table
• Countless insects on windowsill right behind us
• Not clean seats
• Stained tablecloth

They were only 2 of them taking care of a full service. Everything tasted fresh and very good. Great service

Had a lovely evening! The owner is very nice and brings an amazing human touch.
The food itself is great - we particularly enjoyed the starters (the veal and crab). I enjoyed the flavours of the main dish, although I would have preferred a creamier risotto (it was a bit undercooked to my liking). All desserts were delicious and not too sweet.
we had the National 2 menu and the portions were exactly right.
The location is great (only a minute walk from place Wilson) and the space feels both spacious and quite cozy.
Would definitely recommend! It is quite versatile and great for family gatherings, but can also welcome couple dates or business meetings.
Kit Tam★★★☆☆
The restaurant had a bright beautiful dining room and the service was friendly. My appetizer was interesting and I applaud their creativity of doing escargot with waffles. My main course was rather disappointing though, beautiful looking as it was. It composed of a layer of pulled veal over a layer of rice with a light creamy sauce over it. The veal was quite dry and the rice was overcooked, creating a texture the sauce couldn't rescue. Based on the many good reviews, we were surprised and would like to think it's a rare inconsistency but did want to share the feedback.

We had an amazing meal at Sydfish. I enjoyed the Tuna bowl and others enjoyed their meals, too. The flavors were wonderful, and the amount was filling. It’s a great value for the price, too. This restaurant is worth seeking out when in Dijon. It is in old town and very easy to walk to. Don’t miss it.

Few restaurants are open Sunday in Dijon so we were a bit uncertain about a hotel restaurant. It was wonderful!
The atmosphere was warm welcoming and comfortable with a great vibe that is certainly cheeky. Service was attentive despite being quite busy suddenly. The duck confit croquettes needed a little salt but otherwise were crisp and creamy in all the right ways. The steak tartare was cut perfectly and was well balanced while the luxurious (dare I say over the top) pasta with ham cheese and poached egg left us stuffed. What better way to finish then an espresso and a surprise Ace.
Nicely done.

It was Christmas Eve. The restaurant was super busy. You can tell some staffs were part-timers, but doing their best. We ordered too much and were too full, otherwise the foods would be magnificent.
Doruk Unal★★★★★
The meat platter was actually quite delicious and filling. We contemplated ordering more food after that. We also ordered the duck and steak. The steak was a tiny bit burnt but really really good. The restaurant has a very classic fun vibe to it. I’d probably dine here again!

We have been here for dinner. We made a reservation in advance and were placed in far last corner of the room. It felt like being punished ..
The service is terribly slow, we had to cancel the last order, because they did not manage to bring it in time.
The food itself was ..well, ok. It was nothing special to be remembered and it wasn’t so bad that you couldn’t eat it.
For a town which is known for good food and wine, this was a complete desaster..I‘m sorry guys, but that’s my honest opinion..
P S★★★★☆
Food was so good
The services was just ok
The location was convenient
The sofa where we sat was uncomfortable 😣
We had lowerback pain after dinner.
Recommend to have table with the normal chairs.

It was truly excellent. After travelling through France and dining at several establishments, I was appalled at the general quality of the service in France but not so for Le Trémouille. The staff was so kind and friendly, they really made up for everything and the French are back in my favour because of Le Trémouille (saying this as a Belgian). The bœuf bourgignon was hands down the best I’ve eaten in my life. You can really taste (and see) that they care about food.

This is the first restaurant in the Bourgogne area to demand a credit card number to confirm the reservation. We were about 10 minutes late when we arrived. We did try to call but by the time our phone got pickup, we were almost there. The service was actually a bit cold. It seemed that the staff was in a hurry. My starter beetroot was good but not outstanding. My sister had beef as main dish and she told me it was also just all right. We had quite a high expectation for this place due to the good ratings. My main dish fish of the day and the dessert were better. But compared to other restaurants we tried in Dijon, the overall experience is subpar.
ReviewGuy★★★☆☆
Unfortunately found the food pretty mediocre. Maybe it was an off night. Price was very reasonable, but service was only ok at best. Too many good restaurants here to recommend this one despite the good reviews.
R H★★★☆☆
The service was poor - unfriendly. Half of the seating is in a windowless basement (it's cold, bring a jacket). There are plenty Bib Gourmand and great price/value Michelin spots in Dijon.
If you book in advance - this one will likely fall short of your expectations. If you happen to stumble across it when walking by - you'll probably enjoy the great value the food offers (without expectations, you might be more forgiving of the unfriendly service and poor ambience).
But if you are booking in advance - I recommend picking one of the many other great restaurants Dijon has to offer.
Yulia Bless★★★★★
Amazing dinner experience at affordable price. Staff is very nice and welcoming, highly professional and always paying attention (despite just 2 people welcoming and serving). We had seating downstairs and despite big group next to us, was pleasant atmosphere. Food was excellent (had fish options for both starter and main course) and there was good wine selection. Highly recommend to visit!
Tom Muller★★★★★
Wow! What a wonderful restaurant! First, truly excellent food, creative enough to be interesting but always in the interest of making great food, not impressing you with oddity. The entree, a rabbit salad (think chicken salad, but with rabbit), slices of artichoke, pickled radishes and onions, was a wonderful marriage of different flavors and textures. The “filet” of duck—a perfectly cooked duck breast—was tender, flavorful and nicely set off with a few florets of cauliflower and the tenderest leeks I’ve ever had. The cheese course highlighted nicely affineed cheeses, mostly local, I believe. The service was by one of the owners, warm, efficient, just the right amount of presence. The atmosphere is very nice, but simple—no stuffiness at all. Wine list short enough to deal with but with more than enough options. This may be the perfect restaurant. You definitely need reservations, and if you make them online, watch out for an email that arrives a while later asking for a credit card to hold the reservation.

We absolutely loved this Portuguese restaurant! The food was delicious, but what really made the experience special was the staff. Everyone was so kind, welcoming and always smiling. 😊
The young girl who served us was especially sweet and kind. As I mentioned to her, she was the only person we met who could easily switch between English and French — and her English was perfect! 👏

We had great lunch experience in this charming restaurant. It is one man band show - chef is also serving you. In this regard even more impressive as dishes are creative, tasty, visually appealing. Chef is very nice, explains everything and is very generous in wine pouring 😊. Value for the money - great.

Top notch dining experience. Jeremy, who is both the chef and server, ensured we understood the options thoroughly, had wonderful wine pairing recommendations, and delivered on deliciously unique and beautifully plated cuisine that exceeded our expectations. Delightfully engaging and knowledgeable, we were well taken care of while he also tended to his other groups (one of which was a birthday celebration that he delivered a pastry with a massive sparkler atop).

It was raining like cats and dogs and the waiter has refused to give us a sit pointing out that they do not speak English and push us to the door. Not friendly, not welcome.
Jake Phillips★★★★★
We were excited to try this restaurant when we stumbled upon it while planning our vacation. The photos that people have posted show how much attention they pay to display, but their beauty pales in comparison to their taste. Between the three of us we tried almost everything on the April 2025 menu. From the delicate and creamy egg and asparagus tart amuse-bouche all the way to chocolate egg mousse at the end, the flavours were delicate and balanced, paring beautifully between each of the three dishes presented. As someone who does not know much about wine, the option to include drink pairings was a blessing that really enhanced the experience for me. The escargot with black garlic oil was a standout - I don’t think I have tasted anything so wonderful before. The ravioli with mustard sauce was my wife’s favourite. The lone waiter did an amazing job looking after all the patrons and made us (who do not speak French very well) feel extremely welcomed. If you are in or near Dijon, I cannot recommend Trilogie et Saveurs highly enough. Merci Beaucoup!
Camille Hayward★★★★★
The chef is the server and he is a delight. Full of great wine recommendations and heavy pours. The food was fun, each course delicious. We especially loved the dessert of ice cream and meringue (vacherin).

I love L’Abenfant. Behind the unassuming exterior and decor are a team of consummate hosts and confident chefs. The welcome and service was warm and friendly and the pacing of the meal was perfect. I chose the poultry pate croute to start, the pork with beetroot and blackcurrant for the main course and the fig, tarragon and honey to finish. The pork dish was the highlight of the meal - the pairing of the sweet pork and earthy beetroot made for a well-balanced dish. The dessert was also delicious, and showcased the quality and flavour of the fresh fruit, which was accompanied by delicately sweetened cream and a buttery biscuit tart base. The only thing that would have made the meal even better is if the pork was a touch less ‘done’. I would most certainly return to L’Abenfant when next in Dijon. Thank you for such a thoroughly enjoyable meal.

Best dessert I had this year. The combo of lemon and chili is amazing and so unpredicted. Every single course was very well thought out and has complex layers of flavor. Very creative and original ways of using authentic traditional local French ingredients. The price performance is excellent!

L'un des sens in Dijon proved to be a delightful culinary experience.
Opting for the 5-course tasting menu, we embarked on a journey of flavors that surprised and delighted.
From the moment we were greeted by the friendly and attentive waiter, the service was impeccable. He thoughtfully inquired about any dietary restrictions, ensuring a personalized experience.
Each dish was a masterpiece, not just in taste but also in presentation.
The chef, visible in the open kitchen, clearly poured passion into every creation. Subtle and unique flavor combinations danced on the palate, leaving a lasting impression.
The progression of the meal was well-paced, with a delicate balance of starters, two main courses showcasing both fish and meat, a refined cheese selection, and a surprising dessert.
The ambiance was intimate and cozy, creating the perfect backdrop for a memorable dining experience.
While the price point of around 80€ per person (including wine) may seem steep, the quality of the food and the overall experience justify the cost.
Highly recommended!
Note: As the menu changes regularly, the specific dishes experienced will vary. However, the consistent focus on quality and innovation is guaranteed.

We were in France the past two weeks, sampling many nice dishes from different restaurants every day. The L’un des sens offered by far the best of all we have eaten at. Their dishes are well planned and executed, with different ingredients complement each other with a delicate touch. The service was close to perfection, very attentive and never intrusive. We enjoyed the entire experience and would look forward to our next return!

Just perfect! Food was incredible - taste, presentation, everything. All in all a great experience. Tried other Michelin star restaurants while in Dijon, and although L’un des sens was more expensive, it was far better than the others I tried. Recommend 💯 .

Wonderful experience, great food, atmosphere and service.
Interesting tasting menu where the courses are a supprise.
One of us needed gluten free, due to allergy, and this was catered for with a few minor substitutions.

Essential Tips for Choosing Seafood in Dijon
Navigating an inland city’s seafood offerings requires a bit of local know-how. While Dijon has excellent logistics, knowing how to order and when to visit can dramatically improve your experience. The following tips will help you dine with confidence and ensure you get the freshest catch possible.
1. Follow the Oyster Delivery Schedule
Most top-tier restaurants in Dijon receive fresh deliveries from the coast multiple times a week, typically Tuesday through Friday. If you want the absolute freshest oysters and shellfish, avoid dining on a Monday, as the selection may be a holdover from the previous week. Ask your server which day the "arrivage" (delivery) came in.
2. Look for "Poisson Sauvage" on the Menu
When scanning the menu, look for the words "poisson sauvage" (wild fish) versus "élevage" (farmed). Wild fish, such as line-caught sea bass (bar de ligne), generally offers superior texture and flavor. Dijon’s better restaurants will proudly list the origin and catch method of their fish.
3. Don’t Skip the Freshwater Options
While you might be craving the ocean, Burgundy has a rich tradition of freshwater fish. Dishes featuring pike perch (sandre), trout, or crayfish (écrevisses) sourced from local rivers like the Saône offer a hyper-local experience that connects you to the region’s terroir in a way imported saltwater fish cannot.
4. Trust the Plateau de Fruits de Mer
If you want to gauge a restaurant’s quality immediately, order the seafood platter. In Dijon, a well-executed plateau de fruits de mer—featuring oysters, whelks, prawns, and crab—is a sign of a kitchen that respects ingredient integrity. It is a great way to sample variety and test the restaurant’s sourcing standards.
5. Pair with White Burgundy, Not Just Chablis
While Chablis is the classic oyster pairing, Dijon sits in the heart of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Do not be afraid to ask for a crisp Aligoté or a mineral-driven Saint-Aubin to accompany your fish. These local whites often pair beautifully with seafood and offer better value than their more famous counterparts.
Dijon proves that you do not need a sea view to enjoy a world-class seafood meal. The city’s culinary rigor, combined with modern logistics, ensures that the produce on your plate is often just as fresh as what you would find in a coastal bistro. By choosing the right establishments, you can experience the best of both worlds: the elegance of Burgundian dining culture and the briny freshness of the Atlantic.
Whether you are ending a day of wine tasting in the Route des Grands Crus or simply looking for a refined lunch in the city center, these restaurants offer a welcome alternative to the heavier meat-centric fare. Bon appétit!
