Biarritz may be synonymous with Atlantic surf breaks and grand coastal architecture, but the culinary landscape here tells a deeper story. Beyond the Michelin-starred tables and ocean-view terraces, this Basque Country gem has quietly become a haven for Italian gastronomy. The blend of fresh Atlantic seafood, locally grown Basque produce, and time-honored Italian technique creates a dining experience that feels both authentic and distinctly local.
Finding the right Italian restaurant in a city known for its pintxos and seafood can be surprisingly difficult. Many visitors assume they must choose between a wood-fired pizza or a plate of freshly shucked oysters, but the best kitchens here prove those worlds can coexist beautifully. The Italian dining scene in Biarritz ranges from rustic, family-run trattorias to sleek, modern spaces where handmade pasta is treated with the same reverence as a perfectly seared turbot.
What sets Italian food in Biarritz apart is the commitment to sourcing. The finest establishments lean heavily on the surrounding terroir, incorporating Espelette pepper, Ibaïama pork, and local sheep’s milk cheeses into classic recipes. This means the carbonara might feature locally cured guanciale, and the pizza dough might benefit from the region’s unique humidity and flour blends. It is this fusion of Italian soul and Basque ingredients that elevates the experience.
Whether you are looking for a romantic dinner after a sunset walk along the Grande Plage, a lively family meal before a night out in Les Halles, or a quiet lunch between surf sessions, the city offers a table for every occasion. From crispy Roman-style pinsas to rich, slow-simmered ragùs, the variety is impressive for a town of this size. The atmosphere can shift from elegant and hushed to boisterous and convivial within a few blocks.
We have explored the side streets, consulted local food writers, and checked the consistency of kitchens to bring you a curated list of the very best. This guide focuses not just on the food, but on the overall experience: the warmth of the service, the quality of the wine list, and the authenticity of the recipes. Every restaurant included here has earned its reputation through dedication to craft rather than trend.
Whether you are a local looking to rediscover your city or a traveler seeking a break from traditional French fare, these Italian kitchens offer a welcome change of pace. Below, you will find the definitive guide to the top Italian restaurants in Biarritz, followed by practical advice on how to make the most of your meal.

Visited here without a reservation as a table for two. Surprisingly good food for a place we felt may be a tourist trap given its central location within Biarritz.
Would highly recommend the gnocchi or the meatball dishes, both were excellent and not overly expensive at around €20 per dish.
Our waiter appeared to be looking after a large number of tables but that didn’t stop him and service was both very efficient and very quick - perfect for a quick bit of lunch.
If you’re looking for somewhere not overly expensive that you’ll leave feeling satisfied then this place is a winner.
There is both indoor and outdoor seating and either would be suitable.

The BEST pizza I’ve ever had! Every flavor combination is incredible, I was especially impressed by the pickled onions and the selection of cheeses. There’s often a queue, but it’s absolutely worth the wait. The waiters are very attentive, friendly, and welcoming. Highly recommended!
Allie Villegas★★★★★
My food beautiful and delicious as well as the cocktail, both recommended by Alexandre who was lovely. The food came super fast and I was seated immediately! 10/10!

Burrata salad was exceptional, the meatball pasta could’ve had more flavour but was still tasty. Great service and vibe.

Outstanding Italian food. We had Beretta cheese with basil and tomato that was so flavorful. Two different pizzas and bother were also flavor packed. Everything was fresh ingredients. Both servers were very helpful and fun. The restaurant is lovely inside. They have outside seating but tonight it was 100⁰ F so no outside eating.

Traveling for a short while in Biarritz. Food was beautiful and delicious. Our server was exceptional and polite, and helped us non French speakers with the menus. We sat outside and had a very pleasant time. Would recommend

Outstanding pizza, thin dough, crusty, delicious and fresh toppings. great balance, not feeling heavy after diner, well done!! and the tiramisu is really great too. (says someone who’s been benchmarking tiramisus from tuscany to puglia) 😂 see you soon for sure Bimbo

I came with my friends for lunch and it was very good service, great food, and a nice atmosphere. I would come back to try their other plates! I tried the Ragu Bolonese and would recommend it.

I love Italian food and this was right up there with the best I’ve had. Friendly and quick service. They kindly went with our entry level French, but answered back with excellent English😂🙄. The decor is aimed at 70’s art deco and I would prefer lighter feel but that’s just personal preference and didn’t take away from the food. Lots of locals too so obviously popular.

Excellent crew serving excellent food. We stopped here for pizza and we're not disappointed. Friendly and playful staff, if you're around you should stop by here!
Update, another visit, and it did not disappoint, notice how I'm saying it again! We need more restaurants like this!
Thank you for having us.

Amazing family style restaurant with friendly staff, fast service and delicious food! Our favourite was the calzone, they also have a very nice Sangria!
Hannah Skvarla★★★★★
After discovering Trattoria Pizza, our family has returned every time we visit Biarritz. If you’re looking for a good, reliable, reasonably priced, family-friendly restaurant in Biarritz, this is one of our top recommendations.
The pizza is consistently delicious and offers great value for families. Our children love the bunny-shaped kids’ cheese pizza and the spaghetti bolognese. The menu has plenty of options for both adults and children, and the service is fast and friendly, making it an excellent choice when dining with kids.
The location is ideal, just a short walk from the beach. The casual and relaxed atmosphere means parents can enjoy an stress-free lunch or dinner without changing after the beach.
If you’re searching for a kid-friendly restaurant in Biarritz, we highly recommend it. We hope you enjoy it as much as our family does!

Second rate food in prime Location.
This restaurant lives of and only relies on its location for sales.
My friend had a pizza which he described as 5/10 and I ate the moules avec gorgonzola which came with a side of cold fries.
the waiter never came up to the table After the food was served.
The experience was carried through by an amazing ocean side view and a sunset whilest hearing the sound of the waves.
Whouldnt recomend. Rather pick another spot with the same view but better food.

Really delicious pizza that came quickly and was piping hot. Tasted delicious and washed down with a cold Coke that was brought with a complementary karaf of cold water.
The service was excellent and very friendly. Lovely people. I went very early as I was really hungry so can’t comment on the atmosphere but the tunes were good.
Daniel St. Louis★★☆☆☆
Awesome view. People were nice and smiling so I hate to leave a poor review. We went here because the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed. After our starter came out, it took 90 minutes for our mains to arrive. In that time, people on either side of us sat at the tables next to us and completed their entire meals. Moules-frites had OK taste but were absolutely tiny so took an enormous amount of work to get out, and were slightly overcooked. Frites were cold. Calamari starter was really not good.

Very friendly and quick service. The presentation of the food is very good and the atmosphere is nice!
The food itself is decent, but still a tiny bit rough around the edges.
The intestines of the crevettes were not removed, some of the chips (fries) were not cooked so well and the squid tentacle was a bit dry. I am not saying the food was bad, this is critique on a high level, but this is what takes a star away for me.
Serhii Shapran★★★★★
A really great experience at Chez BB: Bistroquet Biarritz.
The hot dog and monkfish tail were delicious.
We also had calamari as a starter — highly recommend it 🙂
The service was excellent, and the waiters spoke English 🫶
Definitely recommend visiting! 🇺🇦

Excellent sand quick service when ordering Moules Frite. They came pretty small but don't let the size fool you, they were delicious. Soft and delicate, moules marinière we're everything we expected. This came with fries and bread. A comment on the fries, very good! Unusual size and seasoned with paprika, would definitely come back here for this dish, or try a new one!
I've been coming to Biarritz a long time and there's always been a restaurant here, don't remember if it was always Chez Bibi but we recommend a visit. Don't be in a rush, enjoy the ambiance and French food!

It’s unfortunate that my favourite pizza restaurant is so far away from home. Warm and welcoming service with excellent food. Perfect ratio of fresh pizza toppings:) Tables are kinda snug so not much privacy but I guess thats part of the experience.
Sylke Vrolijk★★★★★
Might be the best pizza I’ve ever had for such a cheap price. The soft and warm crust is amazing. The tiramisu is also amazing.
Would recommend, really close to the beach as well.
The pizza was quite big, and the cheese was very mighty. But there was no problem in taking the leftovers home - which after one night still tasted amazing.
Aurora Sibio★★★★★
100% Neapolitan pizza! The taste of ingredients was sublime. The guys are Italian and they are super available. Asked for a pizza take away and it was ready in less than 5 minutes. Super recommended

These pizzas were really amazing. This place is extremely popular so I'd recommend coming early or being ready to wait. This was our second attempt at having dinner there. The food is served quickly and really is tasty. I couldn't finish and took some home, I was really surprised that it was still really good reheated. It's a place that you have to try
Eduardo Lopez-Bermejo Calavera★☆☆☆☆
Awful and extremely disrespectful treatment from the waiter, manager, or owner — I'm not sure which, but not qualified for any.
I went there with a friend. We are both chefs. At 10:15 pm, he told us there was only one pizza left available. I asked if that meant it was the last dough ball, and he confirmed. We discussed it for a minute and decided to take it anyway because we were hungry.
When I tried to place the order, he suddenly told me he had thrown it away. I asked how it was possible that he had already thrown the food away, and instead of explaining the situation, he became aggressive and confrontational, saying he could do whatever he wanted.
I have never been treated so badly in a restaurant in my life. The service was absolutely shocking, and the attitude of the person at the front desk was completely unacceptable.
As someone who works in hospitality, I find this behavior unbelievable. Mistakes happen, but treating customers with such disrespect is inexcusable
Absolutely disgusting experience

This is a hidden gem of an authentic Italian restaurant. I was staying with friends locally who suggested we give it a try and we were not disappointed.
We were greeted with a warm welcome by the serving staff and Isabella herself. The menu is extensive enough to make you pause and debate between a the veal in lemon sauce with grilled aubergine or a pizza, but not so extensive that you feel overwhelmed. The same goes for the choice of wine and other drinks.
Even on a Wednesday night in October the restaurant was full not with tourists, but with locals, which is always a great sign.
If you are looking for an Italian restaurant where you could drop by for a quick bite or settle in for a long dinner with friends, I highly recommend Chez Isabella - just make sure you book a table.

A Pleasant Dining Experience in the Heart of Biarritz
Le Capri, situated in the bustling tourist area of Biarritz, offers a satisfying dining experience with generous portion sizes. While the prices are slightly higher, this is expected given its prime location.
The staff is friendly and attentive, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. The ambiance is pleasant, though the lively surroundings may not appeal to everyone.
The quality of the food and beverages is commendable, with well-prepared dishes that meet expectations. Cleanliness is well-maintained, ensuring a comfortable dining environment.
Service is efficient, with reasonable waiting times. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, accommodating guests with mobility needs.
While specific information about parking is not provided, the restaurant is centrally located and easily accessible.
Overall, Le Capri provides a pleasant dining experience in Biarritz, balancing quality service and a convenient location.

Food is great. Pizzas seems delicious. Salads are delicious. Service is quick and the staff is friendly. I would recommend this place when it is not rainy because you can take advantage of their patio. Especially when the winter sun comes out, it become really interesting while having your meal. Cheese burger looked delicious!

The food looked delicious but it never got to the table. We waited an hour while other diners who had arrived later and ordered after us were given theirs. The staff were rude and dismissive. We left and paid for some still water from the pyrennes, which was refreshing. I can't give a star for the service which was poor and rude. I gave one star for the water.

Tips for Choosing the Perfect Italian Meal in Biarritz
Navigating the dining scene in a tourist-heavy town can be tricky, as high foot traffic does not always guarantee high quality. To ensure your Italian meal in Biarritz is memorable for the right reasons, it helps to know what to look for. These practical tips will help you distinguish the truly authentic kitchens from the tourist traps, ensuring you get the best value and flavor during your visit.
1. Look for the "Fatto in Casa" Mentality
The best restaurants in Biarritz take pride in making pasta, bread, and desserts in-house daily. Before booking, check menus or social media for mentions of "homemade pasta" or "fresh dough." If a restaurant is buying dried, low-quality pasta and masking it with heavy sauces, it will not stand up to the standards of the local dining scene.
2. Prioritize Seasonal Ingredients
Italian cuisine is at its best when it respects the seasons. In Biarritz, that means looking for menus that change regularly. A restaurant serving the exact same tomato-heavy menu in December as it does in August is likely not sourcing from local markets. Ask about the specials—if they feature local Atlantic fish or seasonal Basque vegetables, you are in the right place.
3. Book Ahead During High Season
Biarritz transforms in the summer months, and the best tables disappear quickly. If you have your heart set on a specific restaurant, especially one with a terrace or ocean view, make a reservation at least a few days in advance. Many of the top spots are small, intimate spaces that cannot accommodate large walk-in groups during peak dining hours.
4. Don’t Skip the Wine List
A great Italian meal is incomplete without the right bottle. Look for restaurants that offer a curated selection of Italian wines—such as a crisp Vermentino or a structured Barolo—alongside French and Spanish options. A thoughtful wine list is a strong indicator that the owners care about the overall dining experience, not just the food.
5. Embrace the Franco-Italian Fusion
Resist the urge to compare the food directly to what you might find in Rome or Naples. The best Italian restaurants in Biarritz have a distinct identity shaped by the Basque Country. Order the pizza topped with local Bayonne ham or the pasta tossed with fresh Atlantic clams. This regional adaptation is the true hallmark of a chef who understands their environment.
The beauty of dining in Biarritz is that you are never forced to choose between comfort and sophistication. The Italian restaurants here manage to honor the traditions of Italy while embracing the wild, fresh character of the Basque coast. Whether you find yourself in a cozy corner trattoria or a sleek modern dining room, the passion for quality ingredients remains the common thread.
As you plan your culinary journey through this elegant seaside town, let your appetite guide you beyond the main boulevards. Some of the most authentic plates are found on quiet side streets, where the focus is solely on the food and the company. Buon appetito, or as the locals say, on egin.
