15 Best Affordable Restaurants in Biarritz

Biarritz has long carried a reputation for glamour, surfing royalty, and sweeping Atlantic views, but you do not need a luxury budget to eat incredibly well here. Tucked between the neo-Basque villas and the crashing waves of the Grande Plage is a vibrant culinary scene driven by fresh market produce, regional cheeses, and the briny catch of the day. While the city certainly has its share of Michelin-starred dining rooms, the true soul of Biarritz is often found in its casual bistros, bustling market halls, and family-run crêperies.

Eating out in this part of the French Basque Country is a cultural experience as much as a necessity. The local cuisine is heavily influenced by neighboring Spain, resulting in a delicious overlap of pintxos, cured meats, and spicy peppers alongside classic French comfort food. For the budget-conscious traveler, the key is to look beyond the oceanfront terraces and step into the side streets where the locals eat. Here, generous portions, daily chalkboard specials, and welcoming atmospheres come without the inflated price tags of the seafront.

The concept of "affordable" in Biarritz generally means finding a high-quality main course for under €20, or constructing a satisfying meal from small plates and daily specials. It is entirely possible to enjoy the region’s famous Bayonne ham, Ossau-Iraty sheep’s milk cheese, and fresh tuna without breaking the bank. The secret lies in knowing which unpretentious spots prioritize authentic flavors over tourist turnover.

This guide focuses on establishments that offer exceptional value for money without sacrificing the quality that makes French dining so special. From steaming bowls of garlic soup to perfectly blistered pizzas and hearty Basque stews, these restaurants prove that flavor is not tied to a high price point. Whether you are a surfer looking for a post-session calorie boost or a traveler seeking an authentic taste of the Southwest, there is a table waiting for you.

To compile this list, we have prioritized places with consistent local patronage, honest cooking, and menus that respect both the region’s heritage and your wallet. While prices can fluctuate with the seasons, these establishments have built their reputations on being accessible. You will find a mix of casual sit-down spots, market counters, and neighborhood favorites that require a short walk from the main tourist drag.

Without further ado, here are the best spots to eat well in Biarritz when you are watching your spending.

Very friendly and quick service. The presentation of the food is very good and the atmosphere is nice! The food itself is decent, but still a tiny bit rough around the edges. The intestines of the crevettes were not removed, some of the chips (fries) were not cooked so well and the squid tentacle was a bit dry. I am not saying the food was bad, this is critique on a high level, but this is what takes a star away for me.

A really great experience at Chez BB: Bistroquet Biarritz. The hot dog and monkfish tail were delicious. We also had calamari as a starter — highly recommend it 🙂 The service was excellent, and the waiters spoke English 🫶 Definitely recommend visiting! 🇺🇦

Excellent sand quick service when ordering Moules Frite. They came pretty small but don't let the size fool you, they were delicious. Soft and delicate, moules marinière we're everything we expected. This came with fries and bread. A comment on the fries, very good! Unusual size and seasoned with paprika, would definitely come back here for this dish, or try a new one! I've been coming to Biarritz a long time and there's always been a restaurant here, don't remember if it was always Chez Bibi but we recommend a visit. Don't be in a rush, enjoy the ambiance and French food!

The hidden gem in Biarritz. The small restaurant with a homemade dish. Very dish are delicious. The quality and quantity are the same. The price is reasonable (cheaper than others restaurants in Biarritz)

Don’t be put off by its location, this is a wonderful couple run local restaurant. The food is beautifully cooked. I asked for just simple salad for starters and I was given beautifully dressed white asparagus, Toms and lettuce, we also had hot buttered snails. Dish of the day, mussels and chips, absolutely delicious, also had rare duck. Good local carafes of wine. Lovely friendly service

This is an absolute gem of a restaurant in Biarritz and you absolutely must add it to your itinerary. Run by a married couple (speaking French and Spanish) they will delight you with a small but perfectly cooked menu which includes homemade desserts. The value for money you get here is second to none. I HIGHLY recommend the escargot and the duck dishes. The pistachio Panna cotta we had afterwards was an absolute treat!

Really cool and friendly staff! Great vibes, lowkey vibes. I had the weekly drink special which was a tiramisu latte and it was good. Didn’t try the food but all of the pastries and desserts looked good.

One of my favorite new lunch spots in Biarritz. The place is very cozy and the staff is exceptionally friendly, relaxed and attentive. There’s a changing daily plate as well as super tasty dishes on the lunch menu – each one more delicious than the next. Today I had the Ossobucco and it was awesome. What I really like here is that the cooking is honest and authentic, without too many crazy reinterpretations. The portions are huge and filling – and all at a very fair price. Thanks for that super cool food experience! I’ll definitely come back again.

Lovely experience here. Best restaurant we went to in Biarritz by far! We enjoyed it so much that we went back again. Reasonably priced, nice bistro vibe and good honest food. Can recommend!

Great casual and affordable restaurant in Biarritz. We had a mixed appetizer plate of grilled peppers, calamari, ham, and croquetas, a seafood risotto, fish and chips, a beer, and a 50cl bottle of wine, all for 69 euros. The food was delicious, the service was friendly (and multilingual), and the ambiance was excellent. I'd definitely go back.
Cherine★★★★★
The combined platter was a nice choice, I wasn’t hungry but wanted to try the specialties of the region all in one plate: serrano ham, pimentos dal padron, accras de morue and the fried calamars. Outstanding really, i was tempted to try other dishes but unfortunately this plate was more than enough for me.

Having made the rounds of several Bouillons across Paris and Bordeaux, I can say with some authority that this one stands apart — a cut above its siblings in every culinary respect. The kitchen delivers with a confidence that the others rarely match, and the room hums with that particular energy one quietly hopes for but seldom finds. A reservation is not merely advisable — it is essential. Tables are claimed within moments of opening, and rightly so. Do not leave this to chance.

We had amazing duck Confit with fries, but it was so great we forgot to take photos, and we got Mousse au chocolat, they were quite generous with portion as you can see. Atmospheres was great, amazing stuff and really tasty food! Highly recommended!

We had a great dinner at Bouillon Hortense in Biarritz. I ordered the chicken, which was incredibly juicy and full of flavor, especially with the creamy sauce — simple, comforting, and perfectly cooked. Philippe had the beef, and after tasting it I can confirm it was just as delicious and tender. The food felt classic and well-executed, exactly what you hope for in a place like Bouillon Hortense. We’d happily come back.
M de Paris★★★★★
Excellent restaurant close to the sea with great food for a very affordable price. Atmosphere : the place is located close to the casino, 1min away from the beach. We sat outside and it was lovely. Food wise : we got to try many things. The eggs with truffle, rillettes, beef tartare, fish of the day, duck confit, sausage and mash potatoes, It was all good. Price wise : very affordable for the type of food and quality served. Service wise : they were very accomodating with us, got us a table outside big enough for our group. All good. Overall it’s a total recommendation. I’ll certainly come back.

We didnt need to book as it was mid-week. The food was nice and different to what we expected. We shared padron peppers, patatas bravas, tortilla slice, croquettes mix of mushrooms and ham. We also had duck rillettes with bread. The wine was delicious. We took home the padron peppers and they tasted as good the next day.

Went here for a light meal before going to the Airport. Tasted the meal of the day which was a ray fin with potato and also a deep fried cuttle fish as a starter and washed down with a small bottle of nice, dry white wine. The staff seem to comprise of women who are attentively looking after the costumer’s. Total was euro 56 which is reasonable. It is located next to Halles de Biarritz.
Alexey Subach★★★★☆
The pintxos selection was extremely modest. I saw all the photos on google maps with an extensive selection but there were only two kind when we visited, and there were a couple of bites of each kind. The price for pintxos was too high - 7 euro or so per piece. The quality was good. They had some selection of wines by the glass which was nice - the wines were good and reasonably priced. They also had a wide selection of pates in jars which you can order and have there which is good but of course very simple. Overall this place was fine and no regrets but next time I’d look for something else - this place is probably better for ordering food to be cooked rather than small bites
Kyle Donath★☆☆☆☆
Edit: in response to the owner's response: Prawns are crustaceans and squid are molluscs! The food was fine. Unfortunately, I suffered a severe allergic reaction even though I let the staff know that I had a crustacean & mollusc allergy and they confirmed that the dishes I had ordered would be safe for me to eat. This resulted in a 1600$ trip to the hospital and the doctor telling me that I cannot be in the sun for the next 7 days of my honeymoon in Biarritz and San Sebastian. For the owners: please, train your staff on how to handle food allergies! This is not OK!
Nora★★★★★
Really nice experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming, even though we arrived late, and they still managed to serve us without any issues, which we really appreciated. Good service overall and a positive atmosphere.

Visited here without a reservation as a table for two. Surprisingly good food for a place we felt may be a tourist trap given its central location within Biarritz. Would highly recommend the gnocchi or the meatball dishes, both were excellent and not overly expensive at around €20 per dish. Our waiter appeared to be looking after a large number of tables but that didn’t stop him and service was both very efficient and very quick - perfect for a quick bit of lunch. If you’re looking for somewhere not overly expensive that you’ll leave feeling satisfied then this place is a winner. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and either would be suitable.
Sofia Prochna★★★★★
The BEST pizza I’ve ever had! Every flavor combination is incredible, I was especially impressed by the pickled onions and the selection of cheeses. There’s often a queue, but it’s absolutely worth the wait. The waiters are very attentive, friendly, and welcoming. Highly recommended!

My food beautiful and delicious as well as the cocktail, both recommended by Alexandre who was lovely. The food came super fast and I was seated immediately! 10/10!

This restaurant is run by a well-coordinated team. They serve almost exclusively Basque dishes, Basque beers, Basque liqueurs and further drinks. And yes, the name says it all: This restaurant specialises in excellent fish and octopus dishes. They also serve excellent burgers made from high-quality meat as well as children’s meals. Thank you very much! I am coming back!
Elena Aleksandrova★★★★★
We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. Everything was excellent — the food was delicious, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor, and the staff was polite and welcoming. I especially enjoyed the hake steak with chorizo and sun-dried tomatoes, served with mashed potatoes — it was perfectly cooked and very tasty. The only thing worth mentioning is that the service was not particularly fast, and we had to wait a little longer than usual. However, if you are in good company, this is hardly a downside — it simply gives you more time to enjoy the atmosphere. Overall, highly recommended!
Ida Bokat★★★★★
Great restaurant with beautiful views and even better service. We originally tried to walk into the restaurant next door for lunch however they declined us and I’m glad they did as octopus was 10/10. I had the beef tartare which tasted delicious paired with a glass of red wine from Bordeaux and my partner had a burger which he thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend this great establishment and we’ll be back next time we’re in town.

We landed in Biarritz really late and by the time we made it to restaurants it was really late, 10:30 pm. Needless today, my nearly all the restaurants were closed but we found this place with their kitchen still open. We were welcomed and seated in a quiet area despite it being very busy and we appreciate that greatly as we had our baby with us. We ordered two smash burgers which were really welcome and tasty, accompanied by some good fries. If you're out late looking for food, this is a solid option. They had a varied menu and very affordable. The restaurant across the street in comparison was also open but a solid 25% more expensive.
Marion Welton★★★★☆
Nice place with a good atmosphere. Reasonably priced and friendly staff. The confit de boef was delicious woth a large chunk of very tender beef, but unfortunately the cordon bleu wasn't really up to expectations. When it arrived at the table, half the parmesan breaded crust on the top was missing and the one on the bottom was a bit soggy. The chicken was only luke warm, quite dry and the whole dish was lacking flavour. So 5 stars for the beef, but only 2 - 2.5 for the cordon bleu
Kadir Aras★★★★★
Very nice atmosphere on a busy corner, friendly waiter, ideal for a break when wandering in the city. Very cheap compared to other places and extremely tasty food. We ordered padron peppers and special fries. I recommend this place. You can trust all the reviews about this place.

I can recomend. Food was realy tasty
marcelo rs★☆☆☆☆
I couldn't rate 0 stars unfortunately. We are tourists from London. We were refused entry by staff at the demand of the manager, without any reason initially given. This was inexplicable, a total surprise. Eventually a barman found us outside and repeated the manager wanted us out; as we were so confused, we felt compelled to ask if the refusal was because we are a gay couple. At that point we were told the manager had said one of us was acting drunk (neither of us had had anything to drink at that point), and the barman further denied they would ever refuse a gay couple. Given we were not drunk, problematic, aggressive, rude, or different from other customers in any other way, it is difficult to be persuaded. This ruined our trip to Biarritz.

One of the jewels of Biarritz with an Amazing rooftop bar and sea view restaurant below.. Located above of the Galleries Lafayette. Serving wonderful cocktails, great French cuisine plus a great wine selection! The Partager steaks are a must if more than one person! Atmosphere and choice of music is lovely yet calm for chatting. Staff are courteous and multilingual. Emma was very welcoming at reception. Suggest to start with a cocktail on rooftop before sunset! Will appreciate it!
Eric Feyfant★★★★☆
The food was decent, I will have hope for slightly better for the price. The service was good but clearly young people in training not on part with what the restaurant is trying to sell you. The decor is clearly reminiscent of the années folles, (20s) and it is very well done. On Friday they have 2 services and will kick you out at 9:30pm, which is ok if they tell you in advance when you book.

Excellent new spot in Biarritz! The location, decor and views are unique, and we didn’t expect the food to be that delightful, but all the platters were delicious! The staff are very friendly!

The view is excellent but that was the only good part of our experience. We ate mussels with fries which came cold, they were undercooked and had no sauce at all. It was completely dry and unseasoned. We also had the fish of the day which was a bit better but it was not special. The seats are extremely uncomfortable, service is also slow. Would probably only recommend this place for a cocktail but not for the food, not worth it.
Zomb Phil★★★★☆
The fish was pretty good, but the fries and burger were pretty average. Good place for a quick lunch close to the beach!
Konstantin Sidorenko★★☆☆☆
Le Basta lives mostly off its location — that’s the main draw. The food is basic and overpriced: most dishes come with a mountain of fries, and not even good ones, just poorly fried and greasy. Ketchup and mayo are pretty much the entire condiment selection, which says a lot about the effort put into the food. Service is mediocre — nothing terrible, but no warmth or attentiveness either, staff just go through the motions. On the plus side, the wine list is decent, with a solid range of options and good quality by the glass, which was honestly the highlight of the meal. If you’re after a table with a nice view for a coffee or a glass of wine, it delivers. Just don’t expect the food or service to match what you’re paying. Rating: 2/5 — Great location, solid wine list, bad fries, overpriced, forgettable service.

After two visits, we can give some informed feedback. The food is good, but the service is so bad that we wouldn't come back a third time. Both times, our food was forgotten, and we had to wait over 45 minutes after ordering. The other table, which arrived after us, got their food sooner. Even though the owner had been accommodating the first time and refunded our drinks as a gesture of goodwill. The second time, it happened again, so it’s clear this isn’t a coincidence but rather a pattern

Great little find, friendly and helpful with the wine selection. Food was good, staff very patient with a couple of Aussies that don't speak French. Thanks for the experience

Smart Tips for Dining on a Budget in Biarritz

Navigating the dining scene in a resort town can be tricky, but with a little local knowledge, you can eat like a king without paying a king’s ransom. The French dining schedule and local customs play a big role in how much you spend. By adopting a few habits from the locals, you can stretch your food budget significantly while actually improving the quality of your meals.

Embrace the Lunchtime Formulas
Dinner menus in Biarritz can be pricey, but lunch is where the value is. Almost every restaurant offers a "Formule" or "Menu du Jour" during the midday hours. This usually includes a starter and a main course, or a main course and dessert, often priced between €15 and €20. It is the same quality of cooking you would get at dinner for a fraction of the price.

Look for "Les Halles" and Market Stalls
The covered market, Les Halles de Biarritz, is the beating heart of the local food scene. Instead of sitting down for a formal meal, grab a seat at one of the small counters inside. You can order a glass of local Irouléguy wine and a plate of charcuterie or fresh oysters for significantly less than a traditional restaurant.

Step Away from the Beachfront
The law of real estate applies to restaurants too. A table with a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean will always cost more. Walk just two or three blocks inland toward the Rue Gambetta or the Port Vieux neighborhood. You will find the exact same quality of ingredients and cooking, but with significantly lower overheads reflected in the menu prices.

Try the Pintxos Culture
Biarritz sits right next to the Spanish border, and the Basque tradition of "pintxos" (small bar snacks) is alive and well. Many bars offer these small bites for just a few euros each during the early evening. Hopping between two or three bars for a pintxos crawl is a social, authentic, and very affordable way to have dinner.

Share the Regional Specialties
Basque portions are notoriously generous. If you are dining with a partner or friend, consider ordering one hearty main course—like an Axoa de veau (a spiced veal stew) or a massive salad—and splitting it. Alternatively, order two starters instead of a main course; starters in Biarritz are often large enough to be a meal on their own.

The beauty of Biarritz is that it remains a working, living city despite its glitzy reputation. The fishermen still bring their catch into the Port des Pêcheurs, and the chefs still fight for the best produce at the morning market. By seeking out these affordable restaurants, you are not just saving money; you are tapping into the authentic rhythm of Basque life that many visitors miss. You will leave with a full stomach and a deeper appreciation for the region’s generous, earthy cuisine.
