15 Best Pizza Spots in Avignon

Sitting just east of the Rhône River, Avignon is a city where medieval history lives and breathes around every cobblestone corner. While the Palais des Papes and the Pont d’Avignon dominate the postcards, the city’s culinary soul tells an equally compelling story. It is a story best told through dough, cheese, and the fierce heat of a wood-fired oven.

Avignon’s location in the heart of Provence means it benefits from an abundance of sunshine-soaked produce, fragrant herbs, and rich olive oils. This agricultural bounty naturally translates to exceptional cuisine, and pizza is no exception. Here, the classic Neapolitan import is given a distinct Provençal twist, often featuring local goat cheese, tapenade, or fresh Mediterranean vegetables.

For locals and tourists alike, pizza is not just fast food; it is a social ritual. It is the meal that brings families together on a shaded terrace, the late-night snack after a show at the Festival d’Avignon, and the reliable comfort food that never disappoints. The city boasts a vibrant scene ranging from authentic Italian pizzerias to modern French bistrots reinterpreting the dish.

Finding the perfect slice, however, requires navigating a dense landscape of options. Some spots prioritize a light, airy crust with imported Italian flour, while others focus on a crispy, thin base loaded with regional toppings. Understanding what you are craving—be it a classic Margherita or a gourmet goat cheese and honey creation—is key to a satisfying meal.

Because taste is subjective and standards vary, we have done the legwork to curate a definitive guide. We evaluated not only the quality of the dough and the freshness of the ingredients but also the atmosphere and the value for money. These are the places that consistently win the hearts of locals and visitors.

Whether you are a purist who judges a pizzeria solely on its Marinara or an adventurous eater looking for truffle cream and artichokes, this list has you covered. Here is our selection of the best pizza spots in the city, guaranteed to satisfy your cravings without the tourist traps.

Man, am I glad I don’t live anywhere near this amazing Italian restaurant, because I’d be here way too often and definitely packing on the pounds! By far the best pizza we’ve had in France. The dough was absolutely perfect, the ingredients were fresh and delicious, and they definitely don’t hold back on the toppings. Everything was generous, flavorful, and incredibly well done. The prices are also very reasonable for the quality, which makes it even better. And don’t overlook the pasta, the dish we tried was fantastic as well. If you love Italian food, this place is an absolute must. We loved it! 🍕🇮🇹

Such a great place, highly recommend it from the heart. We came here for dinner first and then came back again for lunch. We tried many places in Avignon, but this one was honestly the most delicious. The bread with truffle butter is absolutely divine. Very tasty pasta, delicious risotto, and a really good salad. The portions are huge, so you can easily share dishes for two people. Everything is very fresh, the atmosphere is lovely, and the staff are very friendly. What we especially appreciated was that even after they were already closed, they patiently waited for us to finish our lunch without rushing us. So we truly recommend this place.

We walked around for about 45 mins and came across Pinocchio restaurant and the menu appealed to us. There was no wait and we were seated immediately outside. The service was good. The food was very good. We had the clam linguine and salmon pasta. Both came.out very hot and presented very well. Most importantly the food was delicious! If you are in the area, this is a good spot.
Jonathan★★★★☆
We ordered the parmigiana and a pasta dish. Both were good, but nothing particularly memorable. In my opinion, the overall experience didn’t really justify the price. The atmosphere is nice, but since we didn’t make a reservation, we had to sit at the counter near the entrance. The main issue was that the door stayed open most of the time, so it ended up being quite cold during the meal.
Santos★★★★★
Went there by myself on a saturday night. Place was packed but the service was still very good, with all the waiters being young and very attentive. The pizza “Di Parma” was amazing, the quality of the dough was also pretty good, very thin and the crust was delicious, with amazing bubbles of air inside! The dessert cannoli was a little bit hard, making it dificult to break and i think it should also have pistacchio inside, not only on the edges The atmosphere of the place was also very pleasant, in the dining room below us could see the cookers make your pizza wich gives a good touch to the guests!!

We went to Come A Roma more than 5 times during a several week stay in Avignon! That is how truly delicious it is. The pizzas are unique with fresh, local ingredients. The crust is amazing— both light and airy while satisfying and substantial. Sandro and Pasquale are seriously talented and great people. They took the time to explain every pizza to us (they speak English) and answer our questions. I can’t wait until my next visit back. Thank you guys!!!
Judy Hawdon★★★★★
Visited twice whilst in Avignon. The pizza was amazing, great crust (and I mean great!) and tasty toppings with the added bonus of friendly service and good wine! We will be back.
Aileen Adalid★★★★★
I don’t typically like pizzas — BUT theirs are amazing, and I think that says a LOT about how good their pizzas are here 🤤 The owners are also true-blue Italians and they are very helpful and friendly. My favorite out of all their flavor choices is the slice that’s filled with onions, ‘guanciale’ (pork jowl), and pistachios. Definitely a must-try! You can order their slices for take away or dine in inside or outside.
Cosmin Nedelcu★★★★★
One of the best pizzas I have ever eaten! The staff is super friendly and warm. They made us feel like we were family. It is a very great place to eat and I definitely recommend it!
Agnes Schneidt★★★★★
Pizzas were absolutely delicious! Lots of vegetarian options, good coffee, lovely people, very attentionate, water for the dogs (and some affection)! Will come back again and again. Lovely discovery!

Everything is perfect, from the service to the atmosphere to the food, which is truly excellent. Whether it's the pizzas or the pasta, the chefs know what they're doing, and it shows in the dishes. The pesto pasta I had was a real treat; with the burrata and sundried tomatoes, it was perfect. I also tried the Carbonara pizza with the egg, which adds a fantastic touch to this truly delicious pizza. I wasn't expecting this from a restaurant in a shopping mall! 10/10

A place to remember! The dishes are delicious, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The establishment offers a warm and cozy atmosphere, with friendly and tasteful decor. The place is clean and welcoming, and the staff is very friendly. The prices are affordable, making it an ideal option for a good pizza or other meal with friends or family.

A warm welcome and kindness from the whole team. We felt right at home. The food is truly excellent, the pizza dough is incomparable; I've never eaten anything so good. Everything is fresh, too. And the price is really reasonable as well. In short... Bravo, and we'll be back soon. Don't change a thing!
Jean Pierre Pertin★★★★★
What a pleasant surprise this establishment was! Excellent pizzas, attentive staff, great atmosphere, clean premises, very good value for money, I highly recommend it... the little extra touch was the very original toilet sink, I really liked it!
Sébastien SGD★★★★★
I received a very warm welcome at this beautifully decorated Italian restaurant. The staff is incredibly friendly, and even when it's busy, they always have a kind look and the politeness to match. My first order there was the Margherita pizza... €12.50 for a truly impressive pizza, both in size and taste! I was extremely satisfied! They also have an Italian grocery section for those who would like to take home some treats. Don't hesitate to visit them! Sébastien, Toulouse

Really tasty pizza, the products used in it seemed to be pretty fresh and local. It is more of a gourmet pizza than your average italian pizza. 100% would recommend for a good bite !

Every time good service, smiling staff and very tasty pizza. I love it. If I want one pizza, it’s will be always this place. ❤️
Fran Snyder★★★★★
Ran across Pizza Cosy while traveling in Avignon. We loved their artisanal pizzas and returned a 2nd time to enjoy it all over again. The 18-euros deals were wonderful. One Pizza is large enough for 2 to share. It's outside the historic center, but absolutely worth a short trip to check it out.
Midori Prunel Zaidan★★★★★
Excellent Pizza . The dough is perfect , thin and the crust is fluffy yet crispy And very easy to digest. I took the buratta , smocked ham , rugula, all the ingredients were super fresh and tasty. The toppings are very generous, I couldn’t finish it . My husband had the truffle one with ham and buratta . It was delicious. I will go back for sure and next time, I will take a simpler one. Marguerita or Reine as when the topping has such a high quality and is as generous , I prefer to feel the taste of it all. I highly recommend this place! The staff is also super friendly and professional .
Carlos Castillo★★★★★
I am a pizza aficionado, Im always searching for the best pizza in every town, city, country I visit. Last place I've visited was New York and Joe's Pizza reigns Supreme in my opinion... BUT ladies and gentlemen, something very surprising happened. I've never would've imagined that in France I would find the BEST pizza I've ever had in my life! Omg it's so fresh and tasty! I had the one that doesn't even have mozzarella, it had parmesan instead! I am delighted and sad when I left Merseilles thinking I would never have it again... But here we are and there is one in Avignon! Apperantly it's a chain? Please bring one to Miami, Florida in United States! If you can keep the quality there as well it will be a big hit! Can wait to go again tonite!

The service really sets this place apart. The staff is attentive, friendly, and welcoming, making sure you feel taken care of from start to finish. The pacing and efficiency of the service are spot on. The food was really delicious what made our experience still more interesting.
Sam A.★★★★☆
We had a good experience at Italian Queen. The food was fresh and tasty, especially the pizza and pasta. The atmosphere and location were very nice, and some staff members were welcoming. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that there seemed to be a lack of communication between the waiters. One waiter told us we could sit at a table, then another waiter later asked us to move, which made the experience a bit uncomfortable. Better coordination between staff would make the customer experience much smoother. Overall, still a nice place to enjoy Italian food in Avignon.
Yuliia Mykytiuk★★★★★
I love the place, even though I was a little sceptical at first. The NY Queen pizza is soo good - classic in the best way. It has plenty of cheese, really good sauce, and exceeded my expectations. Napoli Queen pizza has a more unique taste, which was interesting to try. The dough was fresh and delicious. I also enjoyed the exotic lemonade. Stuff was very nice and kind. I’m happy we discovered this place early enough, so we have enough time to come again.
Bri★☆☆☆☆
Would not recommend. The pizza was extremely soupy, and the pasta had the same issue, watery and extraordinarily oily, though the flavor was fine. Staff were annoyed about separate orders, and for the price, the quality was disappointing. To top it off the bathroom is disgusting, genuinely go anywhere else.
Robert White★★★★★
Loved it. Warm, friendly staff. Visited for some drinks and a quick bite to eat. Delicious focaccia w/pesto appetizer. Beautiful intriguing city. Merci beaucoup Avignon for your gracious hospitality.

OMG! We were just two tourists from Australia staying in Avignon for 2 nights. Earlier, we were given a lovely bottle of red wine, so we wanted to get a takeaway meal to enjoy at our beautiful Airbnb. We were so lucky to find this pizza place! We’re quite fussy about pizza bases, but as we walked home, this place was just opening on Saturday evening. We bought 3 slices for the two of us (they were big slices!). Everything in France seems so expensive compared to Australia, but the quality of the pizza here is amazing—and so affordable! The chef and the lady serving us were incredibly lovely and welcoming. Also, the next French customer was very patient as we struggled to choose which slices to get. We feel so lucky to have found this place! Thank you Avignon❤️

Really good pizza, we went there twice, excellent service, we didn't speak French, the person helped us figure out train options to another town.
Alban Bell-Suveg★★★☆☆
It's a basic slice of pizza, definitely not high quality but you don't expect it. You get what you pay for not bad but not an amazing pizza slice to rave about.

We ordered pizzas from here via Uber eats. The photos depicting the margarita and the Parmigiana pizzas were nothing like the pizzas pictured in the app. They tasted good but the lack of basil on a margarita is not forgivable. The few items on the Parmigiana were laughable.

Delicious, delicious pizza! We visited two or three times during our stay and couldn’t get enough of the vegan pizza with pine nuts. From what we recall, there are about four vegan pizzas available, all excellent. Each time we sat inside, having our pizzas and chatting with the owner while he made pizzas from scratch right next to us, paired with some good beers. The place is tiny but absolutely amazing. It’s now one of our top spots in Provence, and we will definitely be back just for Pizza Del Nonno!
Marianne Clark Hattingh★★★★★
Really good pizza, with friendly, professional service. Take away only. Recommend.
Katharina SB★★★★★
Amazing pizza place with great vegetarian and vegan options! They even had different vegan cheeses. We had a very nice chat with the owner who made our pizza and he told us that he is vegan himself. Very authentic and delicious pizza! We can't wait to have it again when we come back to Avignon.
Philippe Girerd★★★★★
Great, hand-crafted pizza. Has 8 choices of vegan pizza! Very well-balanced true Italian style pizza. Highly recommend.

I've tried all the pizzerias in St Ruf and this one is by far the best! Generous 40cm pizzas (one is enough for two), thin crust, wood-fired oven, and quality ingredients. The place has a nice atmosphere. I recommend it 100%! (I had a goat cheese and honey pizza and a Palermo pizza.)

Surprised by all the bad reviews. We found the owner very lovely and the food extremely tasty. Parmigiana was excellent and the pasta with tomato too. The atmosphere was also nice, so I recommend a visit.

Worst food i have had in France. Pizza was burnt and no flavour in carbonara. Service was bad as well, didn’t even say ‘thank you’ or smile after the bill was paid. And they were playing some loud music with a speaker.
David M.★★★★★
As Italian I am always skeptical about having pizza abroad but this place was a surprise. Real, fragrant, tasty neapoletanian pizza like if you are in Naples. High quality ingredients one feels in the mouth, pasta that melts in the mouth.. absolutely nailed. Surprised, I asked the waiter who is making it...it turns out he and his brothers are the owners and, unsurprisingly, they are from Naples. Top notch and highly suggested!

Came here for a relaxed pause in-between theatres I had plan for the day and came across this restaurant that has a warm family feeling and a welcoming atmosphere, I was very happy about the food and service is very good 👍

Oh dear. This was quite poor and the rest of my family wouldn’t even give it one star ! But I was the only person whose dish arrived and ate it . We are a family of 5. We seemed to be the first of the evening service - quite early but around 19:30. There seemed to be lots of staff that jumped in to action, so we were hopeful. But on ordering , the drinks came pretty quickly , the 2 that ordered beer said it was warm and flat and didn’t drink it. But the food was a disaster. I don’t know what was going on , but the food came out , 3 out of 5 dishes, 1 of which we didn’t order- so a bit of confusion . We then saw after about 15 minutes another of our dishes came out , but went to another table ( they got nothing else ) and then we waited and waited . Looking around , we saw the same across all the tables as it was getting quite busy . In the end we had to talk to the staff and say that we were really sorry , but it was just too bad and we’d waited too long . The waitress that was trying to deal with all of this was really doing her best but it was clear she’d been let down by the kitchen and her boss ! Really - there are so many better places to go . It was a shame !

SO GOOD. Had a tomato base and a crème base both superb, were speechless!
David P★★★★☆
Ordered pizza and salad (delivery). Both were pretty good overall. Olives were overly bitter, but otherwise, pizza was fresh tasting. Staff were helpful and accommodating with allergies. The food we ordered would like have been better had we eaten in the restaurant (i.e., pizza right out of the oven).
Nikki Chan★★★★☆
VeZzo pizza was a very nice try! Juicy tomato goes very well with cheese and smashes meat ! Tasty and worth a try!the waiter are all very nice ,we arrived at 18:30 and they told me due to the oven was not heated yet and they was not open .We have to wait for 45 mins, we are grateful for their honesty and was worth waiting!

Came across Vezzo Pizza whilst strolling around Avignon. Was looking forward somewhere for dinner and even though there were no customers we both saw items on the menu we liked. Pizzas arrived quickly and we were also served a very nice Côtes du Rhône at a great price. The tomato sauce was amazing. We eat pizza across the world and this was one of the best tomato bases we have had. So sweet and perfect. Cannot fault the pizza in any way and in fact we will revisit before we leave. Lots of other diners in place before we finished and their foot also looked amazing.
Matthew Vella★★★★★
Just what I expected, good service, good beer and good light pizza bianca. Would definitely visit again as I enjoyed the experience.

This place is so amazing, always come here whenever I can. When I go there is always two people who greet us like life long friends. They talk to us while we wait for the pizza which is always so nice of them. Definitely recommend 100% (also just so you know you can't dine in but that really isn't a big problem considering the pizza is so good🙃)

Delicious pizza. Generous toppings. Very friendly couple who run the business too. We visited from England and if we were ever in the area again we would be going back to this place

This was our favorite restaurant in Avignon during our visit. We liked it so much we ate there twice on our visit ( a lunch and a dinner). Everything we had was wonderful. The chef definitely takes his profession seriously and you can tell by the presentation. The service was excellent, both professional and kind. I highly recommend Ma Belle!

An Exceptional Culinary Experience at Ma Belle Cuisine – Worth Returning to Avignon For! Our last evening in Avignon brought a wonderful discovery: the Ma Belle Cuisine restaurant. From the very first moment, it was clear this place was special. The food was simply excellent, and every plate was superbly presented – a true feast for the eyes! Even though I don't speak French, the service was top-notch, incredibly friendly and attentive, which only added to the overall positive experience. Ma Belle Cuisine left such a strong impression that I will definitely return to Avignon just for this restaurant. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable gastronomic delight!

A Culinary Love Affair in Avignon! If heaven had a kitchen, it would be Ma Belle Cuisine! This place has stolen my heart (and my taste buds), and I would gladly move to Avignon just to eat here monthly. Seriously, if this restaurant were anywhere near my home, they’d know me by name—and probably start reserving my favorite table in advance! Let’s talk about the food. I had the duck with porcini mushrooms, and let me tell you, it was divine. As a die-hard duck lover, I’ve been tragically deprived of it in Belgium, where it’s barely ever on the menu. But here? Here, I found perfection. The texture, the flavor, the sheer joy it brought me—this is one of the best things I have ever eaten in a restaurant. I was practically singing its praises at the table! My husband had the garlic and parsley prawns, and he was just as enchanted. Juicy, flavorful, perfectly cooked—he was in seafood heaven. And then came dessert… oh, the desserts. We had the chocolate tart and the chocolate mousse, both of which were absolute bliss. If chocolate dreams exist, they taste like this. This is the kind of restaurant you can recommend to everyone—family, friends, colleagues—without hesitation. I would bring my entire social circle here if I could! Ma Belle Cuisine isn’t just a meal; it’s an experience, a celebration of food, and a place I’ll be raving about for years. 11/10 – Worth moving to Avignon for!

I was pleasantly surprised how flavorful the food was. We ordered MBC salad, grilled shrimp/scallops pasta, and MBC chocolate mouse. I typically like simple salads like kale/arugula/tomatoes/cheese/light but well aged balsamic vinagrette .... MBC salad is a charcuterie based salad (hefty for my standards) - but it was fabulously yummy!! Their pasta is fresh and perfect. Dessert was heaven. All plates were well presented. The atmosphere is a bunch of down to earth, authentic diners in an intimate dining room. We came later that we typically would for dinner, but we were well taken care of. Highly recommended.

Two local residents recommended this place. Excellent pizza. Large potion size. I recommend the aubergine with tomato sauce and topped with cheese. Hot dish. Let it cool as it came out of wood burning brick oven

Tips for Choosing the Perfect Pizza in Avignon

Navigating the pizza scene in a historic city like Avignon can be tricky, as the proximity to major tourist sites often influences pricing and quality. To ensure you get the best possible experience, it helps to know what to look for and when to go. Here are some expert tips to help you eat like a local and avoid common dining pitfalls.

Look for the Wood-Fired Oven
The heart of any great pizzeria is its oven. A true wood-fired oven (four à bois) reaches temperatures upwards of 400°C, creating the signature leopard-spotted char on the crust and a smoky flavor that gas or electric ovens simply cannot replicate. If you can see the oven from the dining room and smell the wood, you are likely in for a treat.

Prioritize Fresh, Local Ingredients
Provence is famous for its produce, and the best pizzerias take advantage of this. Look for menus that change seasonally or feature local specialties like chèvre (goat cheese) from the Luberon, tapenade, or herbs de Provence. A menu that boasts about the origin of its flour or tomatoes is usually a sign of a chef who cares about quality.

Book Ahead During the Festival
If you are visiting in July during the Festival d’Avignon, spontaneity is not your friend. The city’s population swells massively, and the best restaurants are booked solid days in advance. Plan your pizza dinner for earlier in the evening (before 7:30 PM) to snag a table before the post-theater rush, or call ahead to reserve.

Understand the "Pizza Rouge" vs. "Pizza Blanche"
In France, you will often see pizzas categorized as "rouge" (with tomato sauce) or "blanche" (with a crème fraîche or cheese base). If you are tired of tomato sauce, do not hesitate to try a white pizza. The French often execute these with incredible finesse, using crème fraîche, reblochon, or local goat cheese as the base instead of tomatoes.

Check the Takeaway vs. Dine-in Vibe
Some of the best pizzas in Avignon are served in casual settings where you might grab a slice to go, while others are sit-down bistros perfect for a long, wine-filled evening. Decide what atmosphere you want before choosing. A pizzeria might have incredible food but a cramped dining room, making it better suited for a picnic by the Rhône.

Avignon’s culinary landscape is as rich and textured as its history, and pizza plays a surprisingly central role in its modern food culture. It represents a beautiful marriage between Italian tradition and the vibrant, sun-drenched flavors of Provence. Finding the perfect spot is less about following a strict guide and more about matching your mood to the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Whether you choose a bustling, family-run institution or a trendy modern eatery, you are participating in a beloved local pastime. So, pull up a chair, order a glass of local Côtes du Rhône, and enjoy the simple, profound pleasure of a great pizza in one of France’s most beautiful cities.
