Looking for a quick bite in Avignon doesn’t mean settling for bland, mass-produced food. The city’s fast food scene has evolved far beyond generic burgers and fries, blending French culinary pride with the speed and convenience travelers often need. Whether you are rushing between the Palais des Papes and the Pont d’Avignon, or simply want a casual meal after a long day of sightseeing, there is a spot that fits the bill.
Avignon’s streets are packed with small kitchens, family-run counters, and modern eateries that prioritize fresh, local ingredients. From crispy baguette sandwiches to halal grilled meats, vegetarian bowls, and gourmet burgers, the variety is impressive. The key is knowing where locals actually go when they want something fast but delicious.
Many visitors make the mistake of only looking at restaurants around the main squares, where prices are high and quality can be hit-or-miss. A short walk into the surrounding neighborhoods reveals hidden gems where service is friendly, portions are generous, and the food is prepared to order. These spots often close between lunch and dinner, so timing your visit matters.
The definition of fast food in Provence includes a few uniquely French options. You will find kebab shops that bake their own bread, bakeries serving hot paninis and quiches, and small eateries offering tacos français—a regional take on grilled wraps stuffed with meat, cheese, and sauce. These are not the frozen, reheated meals you might expect from a highway rest stop.
For those with dietary restrictions or a preference for lighter fare, Avignon also delivers. Several fast casual spots now serve fresh salads, grain bowls, and vegetarian or vegan options that don’t sacrifice flavor. The local produce—tomatoes, olives, herbs, and goat cheese—often makes even a simple sandwich taste exceptional.
Below is a curated list of the best fast food spots in Avignon right now, based on food quality, speed of service, value, and consistency. Each one offers something a little different, so you can choose based on your craving and location.

Bitter taste, I honestly don't recommend it. Neither the pasta nor the Thai chili has any flavor; the pasta tastes like cream, but without knowing what it is, I feel like I'm eating sour cream.

10/10 - chicken tenders
0/10 Mexican salsa wrap & chicken burger - chicken super overcooked, dry, hard, not freshly cooked. Wrap & burger bun cold. After showing it to manager, got the wrap replaced, but the quality was not there anyway. Would suggest just the bucket of chicken tenders.

Nice location with the window to the city center. Food was ok. But if you're coming as a tourist planning to connect to the internet too forget it. WiFi doesn't have internet even though there were just 3 people in that time

Jel Prestige★☆☆☆☆
It's a shame, because the food itself was decent, but the experience was severely marred by the service and the staff's attitude.
Let me explain: I ordered a taco as part of a meal deal, but it was served without fries. So far, so good if that's the establishment's policy. However, when I asked for an explanation, simply because in most French snack bars fries are either included in the meal deal or served separately, I expected a polite response.
Unfortunately, the person who answered me was aggressive and told me, "You don't belong here, this is how it is." This way of speaking to a customer is inappropriate and unprofessional.
It's regrettable, because with a more respectful welcome and calmer communication, my opinion would have been much more positive.

You can't really find burger joints better than this place. Sitting outside in the sun, the super-friendly waitress explained the menus to us in English, our food and drinks were brought out promptly, and they were divine. The beef pattie was cooked medium rare (as requested) and the flavours were epic. Thanks to the waitress and the chef/s for providing us with such a sweet evening out in Avignon!

Tips for Enjoying Fast Food in Avignon
To make the most of your quick dining experience in Avignon, it helps to understand a few local habits and timing quirks. These tips will save you from long waits, closed kitchens, and tourist-trap prices while ensuring you eat as well as the locals do.
Avoid peak French meal times. Most fast food spots in Avignon are busiest between 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM for lunch, and 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM for dinner. Arriving 30 minutes earlier or later means shorter lines and fresher, more carefully prepared food.
Check if the spot closes between lunch and dinner. Many small independent fast food places shut down from roughly 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM. If you are hungry mid-afternoon, head to a bakery or a larger chain that offers continuous service.
Ask for the sauce on the side. French fast food, especially kebabs and tacos français, can be heavy on sauces like samurai, algérienne, or white sauce. Requesting sauce on the side lets you control the flavor and prevents a soggy sandwich.
Look for “fait maison” or homemade bread. The best kebab and burger spots bake their own bread or buns daily. If you see a stack of fresh, round bread loaves behind the counter, you are in the right place.
Bring cash for small orders. While most places accept cards, some independent counters have a minimum spend for card payments or only take cash. A €10 or €20 note can save you from an awkward moment at the register.
Don’t skip the local sandwich shops. Avignon has excellent bakeries and traiteurs selling fresh baguette sandwiches, quiches, and savory tarts. These are often cheaper, faster, and more authentically French than a burger or kebab.
Avignon’s fast food landscape rewards those who wander a little beyond the main tourist drag. Whether you crave a flame-grilled kebab, a perfectly seared smash burger, or a fresh vegetarian wrap, the city offers plenty of quick options that respect your time and your taste buds. Keep these spots in mind, follow the local dining rhythm, and you will eat well without ever slowing down your exploration of this beautiful Provençal city.
