Alicante is a city that balances Mediterranean charm with a genuinely practical shopping culture. While many visitors arrive for the beaches and the historic Santa Bárbara Castle, the retail landscape offers a compelling reason to extend your stay or plan a dedicated day away from the sand. The city has evolved far beyond the typical tourist souvenir stalls, developing a diverse ecosystem of retail spaces that cater to locals and international visitors alike.
Understanding the local shopping scene requires knowing that Alicante operates on a rhythm of its own. Many stores close for a few hours in the afternoon for siesta, reopening in the early evening when the temperatures cool down and the streets come alive again. This schedule encourages a leisurely approach to browsing, allowing you to enjoy a long lunch or a coffee break without feeling rushed between destinations.
The geography of shopping in Alicante is wonderfully accessible. The main commercial artery, Avenida de Maisonnave, runs parallel to the Explanada de España, creating a dense grid of pedestrian-friendly streets. You can easily walk from a high-street fashion chain to a traditional Spanish department store within minutes, making it one of the most convenient cities in Spain for a car-free shopping trip.
Beyond the city center, Alicante has invested heavily in large-format retail spaces and lifestyle centers. These venues often combine shopping with dining and entertainment, making them ideal for families or those looking to escape the midday heat. They offer a different pace compared to the bustling center, often with ample parking and air-conditioned comfort.
The retail mix here is impressively varied. You will find everything from luxury international brands to beloved Spanish labels like Zara, Mango, and Massimo Dutti. However, the true charm lies in the smaller boutiques and local markets where you can find artisan goods, local wines, and the famous turrón of the region.
Whether you are hunting for the latest fashion, looking for electronics, or simply want to enjoy a few hours of window shopping, Alicante has a venue for you. The following list highlights the most significant and enjoyable shopping destinations the city has to offer, each providing a unique experience.

Sorry, I don’t have better photos, but this is such a nice mall. 🤣 If I’m not mistaken, it might be one of the biggest malls in Alicante.
They have a wide variety of shops, and it feels like you can find almost everything here—groceries, clothes, shoes, gaming, tech, and more.
I also really like the layout. It’s mostly rectangular with an open space in the middle, so you can easily see many of the shops around you.
There’s also a really big cinema with many screens, which is a nice bonus.
Super nice mall with lots of choices.

I’m used to traditional malls, but this place truly surprised me with how beautiful it is. I loved the variety of shops—you can find just about anything here. It’s not as large as I expected, but it’s the perfect size to explore comfortably in about an hour. The whole area is very clean and pleasantly quiet, and everyone I encountered was sweet and respectful. I also appreciated the easy access throughout the building, including the escalators and wheelchair-friendly options. A really great experience overall!

I think this shopping center is good. I went there in a morning and everything was working. And there floor was clean. The only problem I have that the entrance are far away and Becouse I was not on a car I needed to walk all that distance but I think that is not a big deal. Everything is easy to find and they have places where you can leave you stuff in safe place so I think that deserves 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Im not a fan of Shopping centers and this one is worse than average. Very dirty and ugly looking building surrounded by strange layout of roads and human labyrints with trash and no shadows. No space to park bicycle (at least i didnt found one).
Inside its average, plenty of shops, but nothing special, for clothing decathlon is better, and for other choice amazon is more convenient and cheap. Bad experience overall

The mall feels a bit dated and is mostly designed for people arriving by car, with not much foot traffic. Typical shopping mall stores and a decent selection overall, but nothing particularly special.

Gran Vía Shopping Centre is a fantastic place to shop, dine, and spend time with family or friends. The mall offers a great variety of stores, from popular fashion brands to electronics and specialty shops, making it easy to find everything you need in one place. The facilities are modern, clean, and well-maintained, creating a comfortable shopping experience.
There are also plenty of restaurants and cafés with options for every taste, and the atmosphere is lively without feeling overcrowded.

Gran Vía is a functional, everyday shopping mall. It’s well-integrated into local life and serves as a reliable place for shopping, dining, and basic services, but it doesn’t stand out as a must-visit attraction. You’ll find popular brands, fashion shops, and a large supermarket (Carrefour), making it a one-stop location for most needs. Easy to reach by car or public transport, with free parking available, which is a big advantage. Includes facilities like a kids’ zone and family services, making it suitable for visitors with children.

Mall on the outskirts of the city. Take bus route#1 from the RENFE station, drops you off down the street. They offer underground parking if you have a vehicle. Lots of great shops, a food court. Don't be mistaken, the IKEA is only a design center, not a store ( I made that mistake). if you like shows, great shoe shops and a huge supermarket in the mall. Lots of things to see and buy. Shop, eat, drink, grocery shop all in one place.

Easily accessible with lots of parking but poor selection of shops, with lots of empty spaces. More empty than occupied.
There's a small food level with a few choices of eateries - not a huge selection.
The centre does have a cinema on the top floor.
There's a nice park out the front, so if your children need a break, they can play in the kids area for a bit.
Carrefour occupies the ground floor.
I give it 2 stars because it needs some updating and plants need replacing with something fresh, alive or with something totally different!
Seems to have suffered a lot from confinements during the pandemic, be ause several years ago, it seemed more popular, with more shops open than shut.
A real pity, because the location is ideal. Better Marketing and Management is clearly needed.

This looks like something on a death bed. Most of the spaces are empty. Gives a feeling of an old shopping mall after new one is opened.

Convenient Mall with Essential Stores
I've been a regular visitor to Centro Comercial Puerta de Alicante, and it has been a reliable and convenient shopping destination for me. The presence of a Carrefour Hypermarket, along with Yelmo Cines, makes it an ideal one-stop location for a variety of needs.
The anchor store, Carrefour, offers an extensive range of products, from groceries to household items, making it a convenient choice for everyday shopping. The proximity of this Carrefour Hypermarket to my residence has been a major factor in my frequent visits to the mall.
Yelmo Cines, the cinema located within the mall, primarily screens movies in Spanish, which caters well to the local audience. While it might be limiting for those who prefer movies in other languages, it adds a cultural touch and provides a chance to experience Spanish entertainment.
The mall itself is clean, well-maintained, and easy to navigate. The parking facilities are ample, making it stress-free to find a parking spot even during peak hours. Additionally, the variety of shops and dining options add to the overall shopping experience.
Overall, Centro Comercial Puerta de Alicante is a reliable mall that caters to the essential needs of its visitors. The presence of Carrefour Hypermarket, along with Yelmo Cines, offers a convenient shopping and entertainment experience. If you're in the area and looking for a hassle-free shopping trip, this mall is worth a visit.

Alicante is really nice when it’s not raining. I walked on the promenade to the beach and got in to the Casino. And I shoppet at El Cortes Ingles, Granvia and Plaza Mar2. And I cheked in at LC Urbano hotel in centrum and I tried Airbnb for the first time.
And I tried beauty treatments wich are really cheap.
My time in Alicante is pretty good. And I even got up to Santa Barbara castle and I walked to the old town.
I celebrated my X-mas and N.Y here 🥳🥳
I love everything about Alicante as a tourist.

Be very careful when paying. Today I had a really unpleasant experience at the Vans store.
I bought a pair of Vans shoes that were originally priced at €85, but they had a 30% discount, so the final price should have been €59.50. I also bought a shirt for €35. Therefore, the total should have been €94.50.
However, one of the female employees at the Vans store charged me €120, as if the shoes did not have any discount, even though all the shoes in the store had a 30% discount. If you work in this field, I believe it is basic knowledge to know the correct prices and discounts. Every pair of shoes also had a clearly visible 30% discount tag.
I find it unbelievable that an employee did not know that the shoes were discounted. I also don’t understand why they asked me to tap my credit card again. As a result, I ended up paying approximately half of the amount again.
Because of this, I have lost around €50, and I don’t even know where that money went or whether I will get it back in the next few days.
I forgot to take a photo of the receipt when they initially charged me €120 and when they processed the refund. However, they did give me a new receipt showing the discounted price. Even so, I am still missing around €50 from my credit card, and I don’t know where that money has gone or whether it will be refunded to me.
I don’t know whether it was a fee or some kind of deduction, so I’m not sure what happened to the money.
I have not only shopped at this store once or twice; I am a regular customer. That is why today’s experience was extremely disappointing for me. I hope they review what happened and resolve this issue, I hope this doesn’t happen to any other customers next time.

Loads of lovely items to buy on the Ladies designer floor.
Disappointed with the general Ladies floor as many items were not ironed and creased hence not a good look for a Department Store. Hopefully next time I visit this will not be the case

Good department store with a wide selection of products, and you can find pretty much anything you might need. Keep in mind that the store is split between two separate buildings, located about a 3-minute walk from each other. The prices are also a little on the expensive side, but the selection is very good and it’s a convenient place to shop if you’re looking for a bit of everything.

This place can get busy, but there’s plenty to do and explore. It has a wide variety of shops, though most have similar prices to the UK—so don’t expect huge savings, maybe just a few pennies. Still, it’s worth having a look around because you might find something you really like. Just a heads-up: some of the shops inside are very bright.

This Outlet Store is fairly small but nice and modern. It's easy to navigate and is all on one level, with the exception of a movie theatre on top floor. The merchandise didn't seem to be discounted, in comparison to other Outlet Malls I have been to. I didn't see any sales or specials to speak of. There are lots of seating areas and restaurants to choose from to eat at. The restrooms were among the cleanest I have seen for awhile. Covid precautions in effect. Overall, a pretty mall but with limited amounts of higher priced merchandise. One note: The Nike Store is currently closed for remodel.

Lovely modern hotel. Quite small but very nice inside and out. Lovely pool on the roof is top quality. Rooms cleaned everyday. Shower and bathrooms are great as well. Good selection of restaurants. The selection of shops is rather limited. It would be nice if they'd concentrate all the kids rides in a corner if only to make the rather obnoxious music from these machines a lot more subtle.

Mercadona deserves the highest of culinary awards for its Listo De Comer Beef Cheek, onions and new potatoes. As a top 1% reviewer with Trip Advisor, I found it exhilarating and beyond belief that this supermarket could replicate this combination, served in a rich sauce, with such elegance and style. The beef looked burnt on the outside, but was a joy to carve. Perfect and heartiest congratulations.

This is a great traditional old time department store. It may be old time in the sense there are not many true department stores left but make no mistake there merchandise is very up to date! The store we visited in Alicante is actually 2 multi floor department stores. One centers around the home with furniture, linens, electronics and a massive amount of decor etc. They have everything. The second multi floor building houses clothing for women, men, and kids. This is the soft lines store. These department stores are definitely worth visiting and we also found prices were reasonable. Allow some time to go thru the stores

Your run of the mill mall, marred by the understandable shock the whole economy has suffered due to the whole public-health stagnation.
Still, you can really tell management of the place has and is taking allí necessary and cautionary measures to maintain health safety and utmost higiene, above and beyond what has been mandated by all the (overlapping, bureaucratic, unnecessary, redundant, ill-managed, politically putrid, old-fashioned, vestigial, corruption-ladened, overemphasized, truly oversized, misguided) layers of government, the three (!) local ones, and the national one.
Great place also for a quick cup of coffee on your own or with (masked) friends. Pet friendly, decently kept facilities and restroom, including facilities for baby emergencies 😊
Some of the shops have been turned into "pop up shops" - a recent trend in commerce - where spaces not yet rented out or occupied by tenants are turned into temporary "museum-like" spots, or decorated with advertising material for brands, recently launched products, and the like, in order to keep the place - as a whole - looking lively and well occupied.

previously left a 5 star rating for this store 2
yrs ago, but upon our return standards have slipped. we came for a TV but frustratingly only one tv of 17 had a price shown, this is a poor effort, we gave up on that purchase instantly (carrefour did a great deal the same afternoon) we also purchased 2 smart watches listed at 29€ but once paid we realised we had been charged 79€ this we found out was due to a very minor packaging difference (a blue corner) and the models were a different spec.. by the time we had noticed it was the next day and we are now 240 miles away… the current system for displaying and finding the display items is flawed in as much as the items are on show and the boxes to purchase are below but not in any order. if you didnt know there were two models (we didnt) then this mistake can easily be made… we will return as we like the choices on offer that are varied but honestly i think the 8 staff i could see, all standing around chatting on the store front says it all, new management needed here desperately.

We visited Habaneras as a family, with my wife and daughter, and it has become one of those shopping centres we keep coming back to when we are in Torrevieja.
It is not a huge shopping centre, but that is actually part of what I like about it. It is open, spacious and mostly outdoors rather than being completely enclosed under a roof, which gives it a much more relaxed atmosphere than many traditional shopping malls.
There is a surprisingly good selection for the size. You have Zara, several sports shops, and plenty of other stores, with Leroy Merlin and Carrefour right next to the centre as well. My daughter quickly found her favourite place here – the Guess store.
There are also plenty of places to sit down for something to eat or drink. This is probably the weakest part of Habaneras for me. There is a lot to choose from, but in my experience the general food quality is fairly average. I would come here for the shopping first and the restaurants second.
Parking is convenient, everything is fairly easy to find, and the centre has a pleasant atmosphere without feeling overwhelmingly large.
A small but very cosy shopping centre with a little bit of everything. Not the biggest or most impressive shopping centre in Spain, but a very practical and enjoyable place to spend a few hours with the family.

This is a smaller shoppingcenter than La Zenia one. They have restaurants on the top floor with big screens that shows football matches. Quite children friendly judging from all the child activities available. There are signs on places that claims that the shopping centre is also pet friendly.

A very pleasant shopping experience! The mall is clean, bright, and spacious, with a layout that’s easy to navigate. We found everything we needed – from food to clothes – and even managed to keep the kids entertained (though the small play area was a bit pricey, it did the trick!). Everyone left happy, full, and with a little something new in their bags. Perfect stop for families needing a break from the sun – or each other.

Good place to go and do shopping or have a drink or lunch. It's closer to Torrevieja than La Zenia.
On Sundays everything is closed so only go here on Sunday if you want to have a coffee at one of the bars and meet with friends.
Lots of room to park outside the shopping center. The only downside is that if it's windy or rainy you won't be able to enjoy walking around, shopping or having a drink as the shopping centre is not enclosed.
Other than that good place to come once or twice per week.

Nice shopping centre, plenty of underground parking and shops to choose from.
Very top level is more for food and there is a limited choice upstairs.
There is also a small park on the roof terrace for children.
Toilets are spotless clean and the whole centre, I do enjoy coming here.

A small collection of some few number of stores and shops! That is it.

I really like this little shopping center for its poeple. They are just adorable. Amazing afternoon spent there. The hairdressers are also very good.
Little niche spot where you can get quality product.
You should try also the little supermarket downstairs, it has amazing and tasty vegetables and fruits!

Only place in this residential area where you can shop or get a drink. Older development but clean and well maintained.

So, so.....
Not a "shopping center"
....but solves all emergency chores as banking, hair dresser, some fresh fruits and vegetables.

You can find a small supermarket, pharmacy, optician, a pizza restaurant, a few cafes and some other small shops here.
Practical Tips for Shopping in Alicante
To make the most of your retail experience in Alicante, it helps to understand a few local customs and logistical details. While the city is welcoming and easy to navigate, a little preparation can save you time and ensure you get the best value for your money. The following insights will help you shop like a local rather than a tourist.
Plan around the siesta. Most independent shops and even some larger stores close from approximately 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Plan your indoor shopping for the late morning or early evening, and use the afternoon hours for a long lunch or a visit to a museum.
Embrace the summer sales. The two major sale periods in Spain are the Rebajas de Invierno (starting after January 6th) and the Rebajas de Verano (starting July 1st). These are state-regulated periods where discounts are genuine and can reach up to 70% off.
Use public transport for out-of-town malls. While city-center shopping is walkable, destinations like the outlet center require a tram or a short drive. The Alicante Tram system is efficient, clean, and connects the city center to the Playa de San Juan area where several large retail parks are located.
Ask for tax-free forms if you are a non-EU resident. If you are visiting from outside the European Union, you are entitled to a VAT refund on purchases over a certain amount. Most large retailers and department stores offer a Digital Tax Free service, but you must ask for the form at the time of purchase and validate it at the airport.
Carry a mix of payment methods. While credit and debit cards are accepted almost everywhere, including contactless payments, smaller market stalls or kiosks may prefer cash for small transactions. Having €20-€30 in cash is always a good safety net for a quick drink or a small souvenir.
Alicante’s shopping scene offers a genuine reflection of the city itself: relaxed, stylish, and welcoming. It is not just about acquiring goods but about enjoying the atmosphere, the architecture, and the local pace of life. Whether you find a hidden gem in a side-street boutique or spend the afternoon in a modern mall, you are participating in a culture that values quality and leisure in equal measure.
As you plan your itinerary, consider mixing the historic sights with these modern retail temples. The contrast between the ancient streets of the Old Town and the sleek interiors of a department store provides a well-rounded view of what makes Alicante such a dynamic destination on the Costa Blanca.
