Strasbourg transforms when the sun begins to set. The half-timbered houses of Petite France glow in the amber light, the Ill River turns to glass, and the spire of the cathedral stands silhouetted against a deepening sky. It is at this hour that the city reveals a different character, one best appreciated from above with a cold glass of Alsatian wine in hand. For locals and travelers alike, the search for the perfect elevated terrace is an essential summer ritual, blending Gothic architecture with contemporary mixology.
The rooftop bar scene in Strasbourg is uniquely influenced by its geography and history. Unlike Paris or Lyon, the city has strict building regulations designed to protect the visual integrity of its UNESCO-listed historic center. This means the skyline remains relatively low, offering rare, sweeping views that stretch from the Vosges mountains on clear days to the distant Black Forest across the Rhine. The terraces that do exist are therefore precious, hidden gems perched atop hotels, museums, and modern cultural centers.
Choosing the right spot depends entirely on the mood you are chasing. Some venues are loud, glamorous, and designed for late-night dancing under strings of fairy lights. Others are quiet, minimalist spaces where the focus is on the terroir of a Riesling or the botanical notes of a bespoke gin. What unites them all is the distinct sensation of being suspended above the medieval streets, where the noise of the trams fades and the storks glide past at eye level.
The seasonality of Strasbourg is a crucial factor to consider. The peak season for rooftop enjoyment runs from late April through early October. During the winter months, many of these terraces close their outdoor sections or pivot to the famous Christmas Market atmosphere at street level. If you are visiting in the height of summer, reservations are not just recommended—they are often essential, particularly for the sunset hours between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM when the western-facing terraces are at their most spectacular.
The culinary and beverage offerings have evolved significantly in recent years. Gone are the days when a rooftop bar meant a limited menu of standard lagers and soggy fries. Today, Strasbourg’s elevated venues compete fiercely on the quality of their Crémant d’Alsace selections, their locally distilled eaux-de-vie, and their creative takes on the classic Spritz. Many have partnered with local breweries to offer exclusive rooftop-only taps, while others focus on zero-proof cocktails that match the sophistication of their alcoholic counterparts.
Whether you are a local looking for a new after-work spot or a visitor wanting to see the city from a different angle, this guide covers the spectrum. From the historic to the ultra-modern, these are the spaces where architecture, mixology, and the unique Franco-German identity of the city collide.

I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant Blue Flamingo in Strasbourg, France.
We visited this restaurant for New Year’s Eve dinner 2025, for which a special menu was offered. The setting is truly unusual and memorable: a floating boat permanently moored along the canal, giving the impression of escaping the city while remaining right at the quay. Inside, the atmosphere is softly lit and intimate, which works particularly well for an evening like New Year’s Eve.
Service was a real highlight. The team consisted mostly of young, dynamic, and highly motivated staff, extremely friendly and attentive. They checked in regularly, were genuinely warm, and made us feel very welcome throughout the evening.
As part of the New Year’s menu, we started with amuse-bouches, followed by foie gras with toast, which was pleasant and well executed, though not particularly memorable. This was followed by a scallop carpaccio, nicely sliced and visually well presented, although it could have benefited from slightly bolder seasoning.
One of the standout dishes was the lobster course, very well executed, featuring claw meat prepared inside a pastry shaped like a lobster body — both creative and tasty. The beef dish that followed was also very successful, perfectly cooked and served with a flavorful sauce. A truffle Brie with salad provided a nice interlude before dessert, which was enjoyable, even if not extraordinary.
Overall, this restaurant is an excellent choice for couples looking for a romantic, slightly out-of-the-ordinary evening, especially for a date or a special occasion. The cuisine is solid and enjoyable, the setting is original, and the service is genuinely caring and attentive — a combination that makes for a very pleasant experience.

The staff gave us a warm welcome, even as tourists, and the dishes were delicious and the portions were generous.
I was truly impressed by how much more comfortable it was here than at popular restaurants in Paris.
I would definitely like to visit this restaurant again!

The food was good! One of the best mushroom soups and risotto I’ve ever had. The only thing I wasn’t impressed by was the duck breast. It tastes good but It was a bit though an chewy. I had better duck breast in Lyon. However, no matter how good the food is, if the service was not at par, the whole experience is ruined. There was a big group in the restaurant and we noticed that a the service attention was at that group.
I take a lot of photos so I am certain with these following info. We placed an order and got our first glasses of wine at 19:33. We got our entrees at 20:11, and got our plats at 20:55. We got our desserts at 21:35. This dinner took over 2.5 hours. There’s over 30 minutes gap between the appetizer and the main course. I’ve never had that happened to me anywhere in the world before. I almost asked for a blanket so I can take a nap while they serve me the next dish.

Because of this restaurant I am in love with french cuisine. Thanks for the beautifully made dishes. Lunch menu is simple which saves me a lot of time deciding what to eat. It's my first time trying french cuisine in a restaurant that is super.

1* for food. Had dinner at the restaurant last night. Ordered beef steak. It was awful. The meat was old impossible to chew. Just a horrible quality. I ended up eating mostly mashed potatoes and asparagus and left all the beef on the plate. Whoever cooked it should be fired. I had a stomach ache all night after trying some of that overcooked hard beef.
3* for service. The waiter was attentive and seemed nice but was forgetting to bring things. I asked for water at the very beginning of the dinner. The waiter even asked what kind of water I want and never returned with it. By the end of the dinner I received the bill which has 7 euros charge for water. If I didn't look at the itemized list I could've paid for something that was never brought to me. I alerted the waiter and it was removed from the bill.
5* for the atmosphere: the restaurant is nicely decorated for Christmas.
Overall I wouldn't recommend this place as the food is horrible
charbel sfeir★☆☆☆☆
We ordered burgers Archipel and they were tasteless, no one at the table has finished his dish because of how much it wasn’t tasty. In terms of service, we waited more than 45min to get our order and we were seated inside with no air conditioning, we were sweating while seating because how hot it was that night.
Markus Trachsel★★★☆☆
The view is nice and the weather was perfect. It's a hotel restaurant. Good for drinks.
Panagiotis Aslanidis★☆☆☆☆
We had made a reservation at the restaurant as we were staying at the hotel for the Christmas Eve dinner. The reservation had been made more than one month in advance. Upon arrival, we were given one of the worst tables in the restaurant. When we asked to change tables, we were told this was not possible, despite the fact that there were many empty tables and that our reservation had been made well in advance. However, this was the least of the issues.
Overall, the dinner took more than 3.5 hours to be served, and we did not even manage to complete all the courses of the Christmas menu. The first appetizer arrived after one hour, and there was an average waiting time of around 40 minutes between each course. During that first hour, we were not even served the wines that were supposed to accompany the dishes — which, incidentally, were of very poor quality.
The main course was served after 2.5 hours. I have never experienced such an extremely slow kitchen in my life, especially on a night with a fixed menu. We were dining with a child, who had to wait more than 2.5 hours to eat, even though we had specifically asked for the child’s dish to be served first.
After more than 3 hours had already passed, we asked to be served the dessert immediately and to skip one of the courses, as we could no longer tolerate staying there any longer.
Overall, this was a very disappointing experience: a terrible table, an unpleasant atmosphere, very poor service from the staff, but above all an unacceptable kitchen. Waiting 3.5 hours without even completing our dinner is simply unacceptable. This was the worst €750 we have ever spent.
The only response we received was that the skipped dish would not be removed from the bill ( we didn’t even ask for it to be removed) . At that point, we just wanted to leave — the money no longer mattered.
Your response is factually incorrect. As clearly shown in the booking confirmation I have published, the reservation was made on 29/11 for 5 people, exactly the number of guests who attended. At no point was the reservation changed to six people.
Instead of acknowledging the very real service issues we experienced, you chose to publish false claims and shift the blame onto the customer. This is unacceptable and highly unprofessional. Poor service can happen; responding to justified criticism with inaccurate accusations is far worse.
The dining experience was disappointing from start to finish, and your reply only reinforces the lack of organization and accountability that we experienced that evening.
Medisa Sarvian★☆☆☆☆
We visited this restaurant to celebrate a joint birthday with my sister, but unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. From the moment we walked in, the staff seemed to look down on us, as if they felt superior. We had brought a birthday cake from another place, and instead of kindly explaining their policy, they told us in a very rude and disrespectful way that we couldn’t bring it in. A little understanding or polite communication would have made a huge difference.
One of the waiters a young man was especially unwelcoming and had a bad attitude, as if he was annoyed by our presence. I’ve worked as a waitress before, so I know how important behavior and customer care are in hospitality, and I really think the staff here should be reconsidered or trained better.
The food was honestly terrible. I ordered the swordfish, which came with what looked like a sauce but turned out to be apple syrup. It made no sense and completely ruined the dish. Out of the five of us:
• One person ordered pork it was very badly prepared ,
• Another had lamb the sauce was awful and didn’t complement the meat at all.
The menu options overall were limited and uninspired.
I definitely do not recommend this restaurant.
However, I do want to highlight the bar next to the restaurant it was the complete opposite experience. The staff there were amazing: polite, friendly, and welcoming. The atmosphere was perfect, and we had a great time. I give the bar 5 out of 5 stars for service, ambiance, and overall experience. They truly made our evening better.
Let me know if you’d like to name the restaurant or the bar, or tailor this for a specific platform

First time and had an excellent time.
Staff, building and atmosphere were great and friendly.
Breakfast was nice too, nice variety to choose from, but the scrambled eggs are amazing highly recommend. Right in the centre of the ville you have amenities in walking distances so enjoy.
Angelica especially was super nice, warm and friendly, receptionist staff were great at handling all variety of people and the cleaning staff were top as well, couldn't put a fault to it.
Room was nice too, comes with a mini fridge, after verifying with front desk staff, free drinks which was super cool and as others mentioned the shower can be a bit slow to heat up and annoying to handle but just takes practice.
Overall great experience and helped me with my stay in Strasbourg.

The very warm welcome upon arrival to the concern that we didn’t like our charcuterie tray, the staff was attentive and professional.
My room was as advertised, very compact. It had everything I needed, happy I wasn’t sharing. The room was clean and comfortable.
The location is perfect! It was an easy 10 minute walk to/from the train station and 10 to 15 minutes from all attractions.
I took advantage of the breakfast my last morning, it was fantastic!
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay! Strongly recommend.

Very nice hotel in the centre/station side of Strasbourg. Very reasonably priced at £199 for 2 nights. Room was very clean and modern, lovely bathroom with walk in shower. All very stylish including the lobby and wine bar. There is also a cute little outside terrace bar with cool floor lighting.
There are lots of cafes, shops, bars and restaurants literally outside the entrance. So everything is on hand. Then it's just a very short walk to all the sights.
Only minor complaint is the noise from the corridor. The walls must be very thin as any noise was very loud. But it wasn't a deal breaker.
All in all I'd recommend this place for your trip.
Ismail Zekhnini★★★★★
The hotel is perfectly located in the center of Strasbourg. We received excellent service from the gentleman at the front desk, who was incredibly accommodating, answered all our questions, and easily helped us change our room. While the previous receptionist seemed a bit inexperienced, he quickly stepped in to ensure a smooth experience. Overall, very good service!
Gregory Young★★★★★
Our new favorite hotel in Strasbourg. The staff is both extremely friendly and courteous, and punctilliously professional.
The superior rooms are more spacious than at competitor hotels, and at a lower price.
The decor is this perfectly harmonious and soothing blend of 1920's and modern...not an easy interior decorating feat to pull off.
Cocktails on the lower rooftop were unique, well-crafted, and fairly priced.

In short: a visually appealing place, friendly staff, and delicious cocktails for all the senses.
I was looking for a place to see beautiful (and delicious) cocktails, and I stumbled upon a video by mood Laura on TikTok (she always showcases lovely places), so I went that same evening. It's a dance bar, but I arrived early, so I had the privilege of only having the music for company and being able to read my book in peace (the atmosphere was dim but the lighting was good). I didn't know what I wanted, so the bartender made me a pumpkin vodka milkshake (very good, refreshing, and VERY beautifully presented! That's important to me, I'm a visual foodie), followed by a truly DELICIOUS spiced cocktail! I was absolutely delighted! This creation should definitely be on the menu. The only downside was the lack of internet access (it's in the basement). However, the bartender (super friendly, interested in knowing if his creations are satisfactory) told me that this problem should be fixed soon (within a month).
Salvador Espinoza★☆☆☆☆
I'm Latino, I came to Strasbourg for a weekend and a DJ friend invited me to this bar because there was a techno event. When I arrived, the doorman saw me and my friend from head to toe. At first, he told us it was a private party, then I asked people leaving the bar and they told me it wasn't. The doorman immediately told me, "This place isn't a Latino party, you can leave." This seemed like an absolute lack of respect to me. We just wanted to spend a night enjoying the event, but this racist and classist act makes me think much more about this place. ZERO recommended.
Joana Martins★★★★★
Great bar, I go there often because I'm very particular about my cocktails. They make cocktails just for me. The atmosphere is fun, there's music for everyone. The decor is well done, it's nice for taking photos, and there's even a photo booth!! ☔️

It would be better if the music was a bit more mainstream, but otherwise the bartender was very nice, and especially very safe being a girl!

We had the flight of French Gin. Good sizes, however premixed with tonic and no idea what you drinking. No guide, no naming, just glasses.
3 out of the 6 were enjoyable, the rest were pretty awefull. I would not do that again.
We also had the Goat Cheese toast. all serving of 3 slices of Banquette, but the chess, the honey and the pine nuts were good. For 6,50...in a touristy area it's OK.
The other major issue is all the beggars coming every 10 minutes.
talib82★★★★☆
After being seated, waited 20 minutes for anyone to offer us menus (or take our order, as we'd already looked up the menu online). We needed to walk to find a staff member and beg for help. The venue was busy, but they need to pull their socks up on the service. On the plus side, the view outside is great and the IPA I ordered was delicious

This cozy cafe is a great place to brunch. Cool that they are serving Brunch until 3 p.m. The menu is varied, with a vegetarian option and a meat option from classic eggs. As a guy from switzerland I‘d say the price of 28€ is reasonable. The vibe is pretty relaxed although the staff ( just one of them) didn’t really made a friendly impression on us…Recommend for a late brunch!

The atmosphere of this bar is really cozy, vibey. Although a little crowded on weekends, good place to just talk, listen to the music and enjoy delicious cocktails. Client service is very good. Overally, spent a pretty good night here.

Everything was great i liked the place so much the music and everything was good BUT. The staff one guy particular ( he knows who he is ) he was so mean 😪 and irritating
And in a simple bar why the shots should be 5 euros each !
They should definitely reconsider the price for the shots !

The owner of the bar is clearly managing it properly. Always present in its bar (it has to be mentioned as he could stayed at home but no, he is investing time in its own business). Always kind as well as the staff. Good drinks and cocktails as well. I clearly recommend.

We chose this restaurant because it was very busy, assuming that was a good sign. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a mistake.
The fish and chips from the lunch menu were already sold out before 1:00 p.m., which was disappointing. We then had to wait a long time for our food, and the glasses were dirty, so I ended up drinking directly from the bottle instead. The food itself was disappointing. The “crispy chicken salad” was a complete joke and definitely not worth €15. The chicken with fries was okay at best, over-seasoned and slightly burnt.
The only positive aspect was the service. The staff were friendly and clearly did their best despite the situation.
Overall, we cannot recommend this restaurant and definitely won’t be coming back.

If a place is in a lovely spot, I’ll put up with the drinks being poor or the service unfriendly. But not both. I’ve been here four or five times over the last 10 months. It’s never been great, but the view is magnificent. The time before last, they served warm White wine in glasses with lipstick marks on them. That was'nt a big deal for the waitress. Strange! Today I was on my own, sat down at a small table and was asked to get up. As a single guest, I was told I could sit at the (rattling) bar. No, thank you very much. It wasn’t even 6 pm, so it wasn’t time for dinner. Even then, that sort of thing wouldn’t be on, but at aperitif time it’s simply unacceptable. I left. I can get warm wine elsewhere.

Breakfast on Sunday morning 🥐
If you're in Starsbourg, you can't miss having breakfast at Café Atlantico Resto. It's an excellent place, with a wonderful view of the river. A very pleasant and family-friendly atmosphere. The service is very pleasant and attentive. Everyone is very friendly, and the breakfast dishes are delicious. At a super affordable price, I highly recommend this place.
Thank you for having me, and see you soon.

Visited several times during a visit to Strasbourg. Amazing staff and a wonderful place to eat/drink/realax. Don't miss it!

This boat restaurant is absolutely stunning, perfectly docked on the river in Strasbourg’s most scenic spot. Here, you get the best of both worlds — delicious food and beautiful views. The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, especially the manager Xiao, whose service was impressively professional. I also had the best French fries of my life here — seriously unforgettable. Highly recommended!

Creative, delicious cocktails made custom to your likes- or any classics you know. There is no menu. Friendly and extremely knowledgeable staff. Limited seating, so you may be turned away at the door if they're full. But it's worth waiting around for!

Very cool and intimate cocktail bar / speakeasy. The cocktails they serve are very very high quality. These people know what they are doing, so let them suprise you and allow them to make a cocktail just for you. You won't regret it!
We are not from France but we will definitely come back to strasbourg just for this cocktail bar.

We had an amazing night at the Code Bar. They have a dedicated drink menu for the winter season. But of course they can do all the classical cocktails as well. We had a very good penicillin and their seasonal cocktail with home made mandarin soda and gin. The team is super friendly and can advice on every drink. I will for sure come back when I'm in Strasbourg the next time.

This bar has a great ambience—dimly lit with great music. The bartenders are not only skilled but also genuinely attentive, which makes the experience even better. The drink menu is concise yet creative, with thoughtful and well-crafted options. The space feels both comfortable and social, with a layout that encourages conversation. This was my first bar stop in Strasbourg, and it set the bar high. My cocktail was delicious, and I’ll definitely be coming back.

Restaurant looks Nice, that is te only positive about this place. Food is extremely overpriced, Staff is extremely slow, we were sitting in the restraurant for 15 minutes before someone brings the menu. After eating our meal, empty plates left on the tabel for almost half an hout without anyone paying attention or bringing the dessert that cake with the childrens menu.

Tips for Visiting Rooftop Bars in Strasbourg
Navigating the rooftop scene in Strasbourg requires a bit of local knowledge to ensure you get the best table, the right atmosphere, and fair prices. While the city is generally welcoming and safe, the popularity of these elevated venues means that a little preparation goes a long way. Below are essential strategies to maximize your experience and avoid common tourist pitfalls.
Book ahead, especially for sunset slots. The most desirable terraces in Strasbourg have limited capacity due to fire safety regulations and the preservation of historic facades. If you want a seat at the railing during the golden hour, you should reserve at least two to three days in advance during the summer. Walk-ins are possible early in the afternoon, but you will likely be turned away after 6:00 PM on weekends.
Dress smart-casual. While Strasbourg is not as strict as Paris or Monaco, many of the higher-end hotel rooftops enforce a dress code after dark. Avoid beach flip-flops, sports jerseys, or overly distressed clothing. A collared shirt or a chic summer dress will ensure you blend in with the sophisticated local crowd and gain entry to the more exclusive terraces.
Check the weather and wind chill. Because Strasbourg sits in a river valley, the temperature on a rooftop can be significantly cooler than at street level, especially after sunset. Even in July, a breeze can roll in from the Ill River. Bringing a light jacket or a scarf is advisable, as the best terraces offer no indoor alternative once the weather turns.
Understand the tipping culture. Service in France includes a 15% service charge by law, so tipping is not mandatory. However, if you receive exceptional service at a busy rooftop bar, leaving a few euros in cash on the table is appreciated. Do not feel pressured to add 20% to a card payment, as this is not the local custom.
Explore beyond the obvious drinks. Alsace is one of the only regions in France where beer and wine hold equal cultural weight. Instead of ordering a generic international lager, ask the bartender for a local Meteor IPA or a glass of Pinot Gris. Many rooftops also offer "vin chaud" variations in the autumn, which provide a warming alternative to cold cocktails.
Strasbourg’s elevated terraces are more than just places to drink; they are observational decks for the soul of the city. Watching the swallows dart between the chimneys of La Petite France while the bells of the cathedral toll in the distance is an experience that stays with you long after you have descended back to the cobblestones. It is a reminder that the city’s beauty is not just in its details, but in its totality.
As you plan your evenings, remember that the best rooftop experiences are often the unplanned ones. A sudden clearing of the clouds, a conversation with a local winemaker at the next table, or a spontaneous shift in the music can turn a simple drink into a defining memory of your time in Alsace. Use this guide as a starting point, but allow the city’s unique atmosphere to guide your final choices.
