Honfleur’s timeless harbor, with its slate-fronted houses and bobbing fishing boats, has drawn artists and travelers for centuries. While the cobbled streets and historic Saint-Catherine’s Church capture the eye at ground level, the town reveals a different kind of magic from above. There is something undeniably romantic about watching the sun melt into the Seine estuary while holding a chilled glass of wine.
The concept of a rooftop bar in a town known for its low-rise, 16th-century architecture is a special one. You won’t find towering skyscrapers here, but rather intimate terraces, hidden first-floor balconies, and panoramic hotel roofs that offer a unique vantage point. These elevated spaces provide a rare opportunity to escape the bustling quayside crowds while still soaking in the atmosphere.
Because Honfleur is a compact and historic town, true "rooftop" experiences are often woven into the fabric of boutique hotels and gourmet restaurants. They range from chic, design-led lounges serving artisan cocktails to relaxed terraces where the focus is firmly on a crisp glass of local cider or a Sancerre. The common denominator is the view—a sweeping vista of the Vieux Bassin, the Pont de Normandie, or the lush green hills of the Pays d’Auge.
Finding these elevated gems often requires a bit of local knowledge, as many are unassuming from the street. Some are reserved for hotel guests, while others welcome walk-ins looking for an aperitif. Knowing where to go ensures you don’t miss out on the best sunset spots in the city that inspired Monet and Boudin.
This guide curates the most exceptional elevated drinking and dining experiences in Honfleur. Whether you are seeking a romantic date night spot, a lively evening with friends, or a quiet moment to appreciate the town’s beauty, these venues offer the perfect perch. We have focused on quality of drinks, atmosphere, and the uniqueness of the view.
Below, you will find a handpicked selection of the finest addresses that combine altitude with ambiance. Each venue offers a distinct perspective on this Norman jewel, ensuring your visit is memorable long after the tide has gone out.

Really nice spot right in front of the harbour, so the view is beautiful and it’s a lovely place to sit and watch the boats and people go by. The prices are a little high for the portions. I had the salmon and avocado toast, which was quite small, but the taste was really good! 🤤
The tarte Tatin for dessert absolutely hit the spot — it was SO good! My boyfriend enjoyed his dish a little less as he found it lacking in flavour, but overall we had a nice experience. The staff were also really friendly and welcoming. A great spot to relax and enjoy the harbour!

Delicious food friendly service. Horrendous music!
Saw this place on Google reviews with one of the the highest scores so decided to visit.
Friendly service and the food was delicious, albeit quite pricey. Fish soup was very tasty and lobster with pasta was superb but the whole experience was completely ruined by the horrendous eurotrash 90s dance music mix which gave me indigestion and totally killed the relaxing atmosphere of the port.
Change the music and I'd be back like a shot. Otherwise give it a miss.

The best meal I’ve had in France so far!
We started with the mussels in cream sauce, and they were absolutely divine. The sauce was rich, flavorful, and perfect for soaking up with bread. The oysters were also super fresh.
The tagliatelle homard was the star of the meal. You could really taste the quality of the ingredients—the fresh herbs, the beautifully balanced sauce, and the lobster itself. The portion was generous, with a whole lobster included, and it was incredibly juicy, fresh, and delicious.
Every element of the dish was executed perfectly. A memorable meal and a restaurant I would happily return to.

I went with friends and waited for 5minutes to get seat. Staff was friendly and helpful even though they spoke little English. Food was good especially lobsters. The Normandy dessert was good. It seems bit overpriced but worthy for the price. Outside was crowded

A fantastic restaurant- you could tell the staff are happy to be there! The crepes we had were delicious and filling. We tried the Normandie and the pepper steak. Very comfortable chairs and such a pretty view! My favourite of our trip so far.

This has been one of our go to locations as we stayed in Honfleur for two months. The Galettes were our normal reason for coming here. However, I do have to warn that there is a bit of consistency variance. What you see in our photo is hopefully what you will get, however, we have received portions that were about 1/3 smaller with less chicken. It may just be who the cook is in the kitchen. The ambience is great, looking out over the harbor. We only had our favorite waitress there one time, but she was a very memorable person and a real sweetheart. She was raised in Brooklyn originally by two French parents.

Tried L’Albatros for breakfast. Ordered their ham & egg breakfast with croissant. What I liked about the place more than anything was their authentic “coffee shop sound”. That background calm noise when people talk slowly in a coffee shop. I guess their acoustic structure makes it beautiful, specially early morning.

For shame on the people running this establishment for charging €13.20 for a pint of beer. Friendly service, but the astronomical price for a pint of beer leaves a very sour taste in the mouth. Lesson learned, always check the price ...but you shouldn't really have to.

We had a fabulous dinner to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and were charmed by this restaurant. The interior has a great theme with sausage dogs and makes you want to explore every single corner. The menu has an Asian cuisine twist and everything is beautifully prepared and presented. The upside down bowl and the salad were both excellent and the drinks were of great quality and price (very good Prosecco for anyone that has missed a glass of this).

Cute little restaurant that we enjoyed very much, African and French vibes together, the chef makes a great combination. We were lucky to find a seat for two without reservation. We tried the shrimp tempura, hamburger and the famous upside down. All delicious with combination to great vines.
A must try local option in Honfleur as there are a lot of touristic restaurants which I did not like. It is a dog friendly restaurant and you can see and pet Sissi there, she is really cute. The owners and the service were implacable. If we come to Honfleur again, we will definitely do another visit to this lovely restaurant.

After a long walk, we stopped at Sissi & Voltaire for a warm drink. We and our dog were given a very friendly welcome. The cosy atmosphere, the cheerful mood and warm welcome prompted us to spontaneously decide to eat something too. We are vegans and our wishes were taken into account as a matter of course and without any fuss. The food was extra delicious, beautifully presented and served quickly. We felt completely at home! Thank you very much for a wonderful stay, we would love to come back!

Don't go there!!
We arrived at the place and there was noone, we had to wait 15minutes before ordering. We ordered dark and stories, and we received ginger beer with a drop of rum, we asked if we could get a bit more rum and they said no problem. It was still very light but we didn't bothered to complain again. When wanted to pay, they added €10 for the extra rum ,we asked.
Total ripoff

First day in Honfleur, nice walk around and found this little place on the Marina... I asked the waiter if they had cider, and he replied "of course Sir, this is Normandy." Never offered us a menu, and asked us to take a seat... 2 small bottles of cider appeared, which I must say were very nice. We asked for water for our dog, and had to ask twice more before was finally bought one.... Service not great, the guy who served us was too busy having a beer.... Then I picked up the bill... €32. I felt a little foolish for not asking for a menu, but nor was I offered one... typical tourist rip off, had bought us the most expensive one the sold..... lesson learnt, paid the bill and won't return. Make your own mind up as whether this was a nice/fair thing to do...

The tartine gourmand was so good and very reasonable pricing with great view of the water. Cheese and bread with the other condiments was very well prepared and super fresh. Thoroughly enjoyed this meal! Great location and beer selection. Our server was great and will definitely come back here!

We dined here on a hot & sunny day. The restaurant was almost empty of diners. We ordered two dishes. A vegetarian club sandiwch and a vegetarian Croque monsieur. Both dishes were ok, and were served quickly. The service is not top notch, but they managed to respond in a timely manner to our requests. The price is good for two dishes, and we enjoyed our experience. What could have been better is to offer some sort of a complementary tap water when a guest arrives, due to the high temperatures.

Hotel
The room was at the third floor after a narrow staircase (not a big problem by itself but please be careful in case of reduced mobility).
The room (under roof) is burning hot and if you are above 185 you cannot stand. To mitigate we were given a vent but the noise was horrible and the cooling really low - we could sleep for more than 3 hours during the night due to this.
In addition the bathroom, even if cleaned properly, smelled really bad - perfume given but the smell kept coming back.
Due to this the entire experience was not good.
Great breakfast included and really welcoming staff.
Great to have parking option (safe and comfortable) for a minimum price.
Room furnitures and new renovation.

Lovely harbour side bar in Honfleur. Good beer, delicious charcuterie, a helpful barman & good music- what more could you want?
Helen Taylor★☆☆☆☆
What a shame this bar tries the happy hour scam, as its in a lovely location. Advertising board outside states happy hour times, when you order and then get charged extortionate prices, question the bill you get told happy hour is Saturday and Sunday only and bill board disappears. Toilet is awful too, don't bother going, bar further up is a lot nicer and genuine happy hour prices
Lee Forshaw★☆☆☆☆
THE HAPPY HOUR SCAM?
We came back at around 5pm specifically because there was a board outside advertising Happy Hour.
When we were charged €42.50, we questioned why the Happy Hour prices hadn’t been applied. Then, rather conveniently, the Happy Hour board that had been outside had disappeared. We were told Happy Hour was “weekends only”.
We drank up and left.
If you’re an English-speaking tourist, be very careful. Check exactly what you’re going to be charged before ordering and don’t simply rely on the advertising board outside.
Certainly left us feeling like we’d fallen for the “Happy Hour Scam”. We won’t be returning.

This was probably one of my all-time favorite hotels to stay at on any vacation!
Staff were so wonderful, kind and friendly from the moment we walked through the door. Our room was spacious and clean - stocked with tea, coffee and extra fresh towels. The bed was SUPER comfortable too.
Breakfast was an amazing spread of pastries along with fresh coffee and local apple juice. The servers there are lovely and extremely sweet.
The building is so cool!! Super vintage, almost like a massive cottage on the water. Aesthetically one that can fit Snow White and ALL her Dwarves. Absolutely breathtaking.
Thank you for an incredibly memorable stay!

Everything about our stay at Les Manoirs des Impressionistes was amazing. The property is gorgeous and overlooks the English Channel. The manor house is a beautiful example of French architecture in the old world sense. Our room on the second floor (no elevator) was large and well appointed: very comfortable bed and pillows, a sitting area with table and chairs, a beautiful balcony again overlooking the English Channel. The bathroom was perfect with two sinks, a lighted makeup mirror, a hairdryer, and a walk-in shower. It was a little strange that the shower had no glass wall at the end so some water did get on the floor, but not a lot. They serve a typical European breakfast gratuit in a beautiful dining room:granola and yogurt, fresh applesauce, and apple juice from the area, French press, coffee, pastries, and fruit with butter and jelly. You could order eggs and bacon that was an extra charge, but we did not . They serve a gourmet dinner (extra charge) but we dined elsewhere. The staff couldn’t have been nicer. The location was great, only about a 20 minute walk on a paved walkway into town and maybe a 3–5 minute car ride.
Andrew Richmond★★★☆☆
We had a very bad start to our stay at this hotel which improved by the time we left.
We weren't particularly welcome by the person on reception who seemed to be surprised that we had turned up. He took photos of our passport information on his personal phone which seemed strange as we had been travelling in France without showing our passports to any other hotel. He took us to our room which looked fine until we checked the bedding which was water soaked through to the mattress. We immediately raised this with him and he reluctantly he summoned help and changed the sheets and duvet which apart from being wet had obviously seen better days. As we were fed up at this stage we said we would like a refund and go elsewhere but they couldn't agree to this so we stayed.
Whilst the hotel has plenty of character and a lovely garden it overlooks the harbour cranes of Le Havre and doesn't have air conditioning. The room safe isn't secure as it was unattached in the wardrobe. The standard breakfast does not include cooked items which are charged extra.
The saving grace was that all of the other staff were helpful and seemed to please but it is over priced and lacking in many ways.
Ayca Armand Delille★★★☆☆
disappointing experience for a supposed 5-star hotel. At around €450 per night with bed & breakfast charging extra for eggs at breakfast is unacceptable at this price point. To make matters worse, there was no air conditioning in the rooms, which made the stay very uncomfortable during summer time.no room service. For a hotel claiming to be 5-star, these shortcomings are hard to justify. I would not recommend it based on the value for money.

Who doesn’t love a sidewalk café in France? 🇫🇷 Especially in the charming seaside town of Honfleur. It was a busy Saturday afternoon, and many cafés along the waterfront were closing due to building safety issues, but we were lucky to grab an outdoor table at La Matelote. Menus are available in several languages, and the waitstaff appreciates when you point to your selection while ordering.
We started with an Aperol Spritz (very Aperol-forward) and a dry red wine. For lunch, we chose the fish and chips and the Normandy burger. My partner loved that the batter stayed intact on the fish, making every bite flavorful. The burger was good, though I would have enjoyed a bit more cheese or perhaps a béchamel-style sauce. The fries were perfectly crisp and a great complement to both dishes. It was the perfect spring day to take in Honfleur’s medieval waterfront and enjoy the fresh sea air. We'd definitely return!

Had an amazing dining experience! We ordered the mussels, salmon, and fish & chips, and every dish was absolutely delicious. The mussels were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The salmon was beautifully done—tender, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. The fish & chips were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just perfect.
The overall quality of food, along with great presentation and taste, made the meal truly enjoyable. Definitely a place worth visiting if you’re craving comforting, well-prepared seafood!

Calamari? More like con-amari.
Ordered calamari, got onion rings — no mention, no apology, just hoping we wouldn’t notice. We did. Then discovered the “6-person” plate we paid for looks suspiciously identical to a mixed platter another reviewer described as a single portion — minus the onion rings (served to us as “calamari”), plus two chicken legs. Topped off with 8€ for a handful of tapas that wouldn’t feed a seagull.
Dishonest. Not coming back

We went for some food and cocktails. We visited between 18-22, which apparently was also happy hour so we had the mojito for €6 per glass.
We had a tapas plate for 2 people and it was a nice amount of food with tasty tapas.
It seemed there was only 1 waitress available, that also had to make drinks so it took a little while before our order was taken and food was delivered, but this didn't take away from the experience.

We are just tourists off a cruise ship and had limited time to explore this beautiful old town. Stopped into this quaint venue and enjoyed some croque monsieur & frites... Yum and reasonably priced. Very friendly service too!

It's a pity there isn't a zero star rating really for customer service , however , it deserves a 5 star rating for the rudeness of the staff. I Had a litre of beer accidentally poured all over me by the waitress but when she brought back the replacement she had the audacity to ask whether I was paying for it by cash or card whilst tossing me a bit of kitchen roll. When I complained to the manager and suggested that the replacement should be complimentary at least as a form of apology I was told it was only beer , it happens to him all the time and he just sucks it off. Obviously furious at ths off hand attitude I refused to pay for the replacement beer which was then promptly taken back to be served to another unsuspecting customer I can only presume. Avoid , Avoid , Avoid !

So glad that we found this wine bar !!! 🍷🧀
The owners were very friendly and their recommendations for the charcuterie board and wine pairing were spot on. The large photograph of the All Blacks rugby Haka was taken by the owner. Would certainly recommend this venue, there is also extra space upstairs with views of the church.

Really nice place to stop for an aperitivo or for a small dinner.

Adorable wine bar on a quiet picturesque street just steps away from the crowds. The owner is lovely. Extensive regional wine selection along with light snacks. My husband had champagne and some wine while I enjoyed Apple juice from Normandie. The walls are decorated with his and his wife’s photos (he was a sports photographer).
Highly recommend!

Very good wine bar worth a visit if you are in Honfleur! The staffs are super friendly and the shop owner she can recommend very good wine that you’d like - just tell her what kind of wine you like -dry / sweet and she will come with small amount for you to taste before give you a full glass so that you know for sure that you like it. We also ordered a cheese platter and it was delicious too!

Really helpful, let us taste the wine before we ordered. Beautiful little spot, it’s so cosy with only a couple tables

Nice, chill place to sit down for a beer and pizza. If you miss the french lunch slot (like we did) this is a good option to get some tasty pizza and an excellent pint. Friendly service and pretty good value.

Funny chill place with beerpong, tablefootball tables and a small beer and vape shop, bar and some pizza's.
Not sure about the 'happy hours' because on the sign it said 'Jeudi' but on a thursday we had no happy hour.
+1 for the dog!

Some nice draft beers. However advertised with 'happy hour', which was not applicable during these hours?! Therefore paid the full price

Interesting place for local beers. Beware it's located outside old town and city centre.
Essential Tips for Enjoying Honfleur’s Rooftop Scene
Elevated drinking in Honfleur is a slightly different affair than in a major metropolis. The weather, the tides, and the town’s historic layout all play a role in your experience. To ensure you get the best seat in the house and avoid disappointment, it is wise to plan your visit with a few local nuances in mind.
Book Ahead for the Golden Hour
Sunset is prime time in Honfleur, and the limited number of elevated terraces fill up quickly, especially during the summer months and weekends. If a venue accepts reservations for drinks, secure a table for about an hour before sunset. This ensures you have a prime spot to watch the light change over the estuary and the harbor.
Embrace the Norman Microclimate
Honfleur is located on the English Channel, meaning the weather can shift rapidly, even on a sunny day. Even if the sky is clear when you leave your hotel, bring a light jacket or scarf. Rooftop terraces are often exposed to the sea breeze, which can turn chilly the moment the sun dips below the horizon.
Dress for Cobblestones and Stairs
While you want to look stylish for a night out, remember that Honfleur is a medieval town. Many of these venues are accessed via narrow, winding staircases or steep steps. Leave the stiletto heels at your hotel and opt for smart-casual footwear with good grip to navigate the historic architecture safely and comfortably.
Explore Beyond the Cocktail Menu
While many rooftop bars offer excellent international cocktails, this is Normandy. Do not miss the chance to try local specialties. Ask for a Pommeau (an apple aperitif), a crisp local cider, or a glass of Calvados to truly immerse yourself in the regional terroir while enjoying the view.
Check the Cruise Ship Schedule
The harbor of Honfleur is a popular stop for small luxury cruise ships and day-trippers. If you prefer a quieter, more romantic atmosphere, check the port schedule in advance. Planning your rooftop visit for a day when no ships are docked will result in a far more relaxed and intimate experience.
As the evening draws in and the lights of the Vieux Bassin begin to shimmer on the water, you will understand why Honfleur has enchanted visitors for generations. The vantage points listed above offer more than just a drink; they provide a sensory snapshot of Normandy’s soul. From the salty air to the gentle clinking of glasses, these are the moments that define travel.
Taking the time to elevate your perspective—literally—allows you to appreciate the intricate layout of this historic port. Whether you choose a lively terrace with music or a quiet balcony overlooking the slate rooftops, you are participating in a long tradition of savoring the good life in France. Santé!
