Honfleur’s harbour, with its slender slate-fronted houses and bobbing fishing boats, is one of the most painted scenes in Normandy. It is also a town that knows how to eat, drink, and linger over a glass of something good. From historic cider houses to contemporary wine bars, the drinking scene here reflects the region’s rich maritime and agricultural heritage.
While many visitors arrive for the day, the best way to experience Honfleur’s nightlife is to stay until the tour buses leave. The narrow streets around the Vieux Bassin hide candlelit cave à vin bars, while the Sainte-Catherine district offers relaxed neighbourhood spots. Each venue has its own rhythm, from early-evening apéritif culture to late-night live music.
The local bar scene is shaped by Normandy’s produce. Expect extensive Calvados and Pommeau selections, crisp local ciders, and seafood-friendly white wines from the Loire and Chablis. You will also find a growing number of craft beer taps celebrating Norman breweries and a new wave of natural wine bars run by passionate young owners.
Because Honfleur is compact, bar-hopping is easy and safe on foot. Distances are short, the cobbled lanes are atmospheric after dark, and many establishments are within a five-minute walk of the old port. That said, popular spots fill quickly in summer, so arriving before 7 p.m. or booking ahead is wise.
Below is a curated list of the best bars in Honfleur, selected for their atmosphere, drink quality, service, and authentic local character. Whether you want a quiet corner for a first date or a lively terrace for people-watching, this guide covers the full spectrum of Honfleur’s drinking culture.
Each recommendation has been chosen because it offers something distinctive. Some are institutions that have served sailors and artists for generations, while others are modern additions bringing fresh energy to the town’s historic core.

Highly recommend! We loved our food and service here! Our family of 5 from Canada are happy we stopped in on May 17th. Julienne welcomed us with a smile and recommended a beautiful wine and brew, with a delicious bread, meat and cheese plate 😋 He was patient and spoke good english for us. The atmosphere and vibe of this establishment were top notch. Thank you! We would all love to return one day soon 🙂

First day in Honfleur, nice walk around and found this little place on the Marina... I asked the waiter if they had cider, and he replied "of course Sir, this is Normandy." Never offered us a menu, and asked us to take a seat... 2 small bottles of cider appeared, which I must say were very nice. We asked for water for our dog, and had to ask twice more before was finally bought one.... Service not great, the guy who served us was too busy having a beer.... Then I picked up the bill... €32. I felt a little foolish for not asking for a menu, but nor was I offered one... typical tourist rip off, had bought us the most expensive one the sold..... lesson learnt, paid the bill and won't return. Make your own mind up as whether this was a nice/fair thing to do...

The tartine gourmand was so good and very reasonable pricing with great view of the water. Cheese and bread with the other condiments was very well prepared and super fresh. Thoroughly enjoyed this meal! Great location and beer selection. Our server was great and will definitely come back here!

We dined here on a hot & sunny day. The restaurant was almost empty of diners. We ordered two dishes. A vegetarian club sandiwch and a vegetarian Croque monsieur. Both dishes were ok, and were served quickly. The service is not top notch, but they managed to respond in a timely manner to our requests. The price is good for two dishes, and we enjoyed our experience. What could have been better is to offer some sort of a complementary tap water when a guest arrives, due to the high temperatures.

Calamari? More like con-amari.
Ordered calamari, got onion rings — no mention, no apology, just hoping we wouldn’t notice. We did. Then discovered the “6-person” plate we paid for looks suspiciously identical to a mixed platter another reviewer described as a single portion — minus the onion rings (served to us as “calamari”), plus two chicken legs. Topped off with 8€ for a handful of tapas that wouldn’t feed a seagull.
Dishonest. Not coming back

Great place that I wish was nearer home! As I was driving I enjoyed my mocktail, complete in fake coconut cup. We shared nachos and Plancha Duo and all was delicious. Great vibes and there is a happy hour offer. Good veggie options.
Bart Planting★★★★★
We went for some food and cocktails. We visited between 18-22, which apparently was also happy hour so we had the mojito for €6 per glass.
We had a tapas plate for 2 people and it was a nice amount of food with tasty tapas.
It seemed there was only 1 waitress available, that also had to make drinks so it took a little while before our order was taken and food was delivered, but this didn't take away from the experience.

Maddy's is a cracking pub. We had really nice conversations with Cecilia and Scott who are brother and sister and run Maddy's as a family business. They are so welcoming and gave us some great advice regarding restaurants. We also got to speak with Yves, a local who said he has two nationalities, French and Rock n Roll 🤣. Great place for a drink. We will be back.

Don't go there!!
We arrived at the place and there was noone, we had to wait 15minutes before ordering. We ordered dark and stories, and we received ginger beer with a drop of rum, we asked if we could get a bit more rum and they said no problem. It was still very light but we didn't bothered to complain again. When wanted to pay, they added €10 for the extra rum ,we asked.
Total ripoff

So glad that we found this wine bar !!! 🍷🧀
The owners were very friendly and their recommendations for the charcuterie board and wine pairing were spot on. The large photograph of the All Blacks rugby Haka was taken by the owner. Would certainly recommend this venue, there is also extra space upstairs with views of the church.

Very good wine bar worth a visit if you are in Honfleur! The staffs are super friendly and the shop owner she can recommend very good wine that you’d like - just tell her what kind of wine you like -dry / sweet and she will come with small amount for you to taste before give you a full glass so that you know for sure that you like it. We also ordered a cheese platter and it was delicious too!

Hotel
The room was at the third floor after a narrow staircase (not a big problem by itself but please be careful in case of reduced mobility).
The room (under roof) is burning hot and if you are above 185 you cannot stand. To mitigate we were given a vent but the noise was horrible and the cooling really low - we could sleep for more than 3 hours during the night due to this.
In addition the bathroom, even if cleaned properly, smelled really bad - perfume given but the smell kept coming back.
Due to this the entire experience was not good.
Great breakfast included and really welcoming staff.
Great to have parking option (safe and comfortable) for a minimum price.
Room furnitures and new renovation.

Really nice spot right in front of the harbour, so the view is beautiful and it’s a lovely place to sit and watch the boats and people go by. The prices are a little high for the portions. I had the salmon and avocado toast, which was quite small, but the taste was really good! 🤤
The tarte Tatin for dessert absolutely hit the spot — it was SO good! My boyfriend enjoyed his dish a little less as he found it lacking in flavour, but overall we had a nice experience. The staff were also really friendly and welcoming. A great spot to relax and enjoy the harbour!

Delicious food friendly service. Horrendous music!
Saw this place on Google reviews with one of the the highest scores so decided to visit.
Friendly service and the food was delicious, albeit quite pricey. Fish soup was very tasty and lobster with pasta was superb but the whole experience was completely ruined by the horrendous eurotrash 90s dance music mix which gave me indigestion and totally killed the relaxing atmosphere of the port.
Change the music and I'd be back like a shot. Otherwise give it a miss.

The best meal I’ve had in France so far!
We started with the mussels in cream sauce, and they were absolutely divine. The sauce was rich, flavorful, and perfect for soaking up with bread. The oysters were also super fresh.
The tagliatelle homard was the star of the meal. You could really taste the quality of the ingredients—the fresh herbs, the beautifully balanced sauce, and the lobster itself. The portion was generous, with a whole lobster included, and it was incredibly juicy, fresh, and delicious.
Every element of the dish was executed perfectly. A memorable meal and a restaurant I would happily return to.

I went with friends and waited for 5minutes to get seat. Staff was friendly and helpful even though they spoke little English. Food was good especially lobsters. The Normandy dessert was good. It seems bit overpriced but worthy for the price. Outside was crowded

As soon as we entered, we were instantly greeted with a friendly hello from all the staff! Such a welcoming environment. We had the moules-frites (which came with a choice of three sauces) and an omelette (which was the best omelette I have ever had — I’ve had a lot). Very well priced, great food, lovely staff. It is also very central and located directly next to the port (vieux bassin). Can’t recommend enough!

It's a pity there isn't a zero star rating really for customer service , however , it deserves a 5 star rating for the rudeness of the staff. I Had a litre of beer accidentally poured all over me by the waitress but when she brought back the replacement she had the audacity to ask whether I was paying for it by cash or card whilst tossing me a bit of kitchen roll. When I complained to the manager and suggested that the replacement should be complimentary at least as a form of apology I was told it was only beer , it happens to him all the time and he just sucks it off. Obviously furious at ths off hand attitude I refused to pay for the replacement beer which was then promptly taken back to be served to another unsuspecting customer I can only presume. Avoid , Avoid , Avoid !

Lovely harbour side bar in Honfleur. Good beer, delicious charcuterie, a helpful barman & good music- what more could you want?
Helen Taylor★☆☆☆☆
What a shame this bar tries the happy hour scam, as its in a lovely location. Advertising board outside states happy hour times, when you order and then get charged extortionate prices, question the bill you get told happy hour is Saturday and Sunday only and bill board disappears. Toilet is awful too, don't bother going, bar further up is a lot nicer and genuine happy hour prices
Lee Forshaw★☆☆☆☆
THE HAPPY HOUR SCAM?
We came back at around 5pm specifically because there was a board outside advertising Happy Hour.
When we were charged €42.50, we questioned why the Happy Hour prices hadn’t been applied. Then, rather conveniently, the Happy Hour board that had been outside had disappeared. We were told Happy Hour was “weekends only”.
We drank up and left.
If you’re an English-speaking tourist, be very careful. Check exactly what you’re going to be charged before ordering and don’t simply rely on the advertising board outside.
Certainly left us feeling like we’d fallen for the “Happy Hour Scam”. We won’t be returning.

Just a short walk away from the tourist crowds of Honfleur lies a true hidden gem. Set aboard a beautiful old wooden boat, this charming oyster bar offers an unforgettable atmosphere.
On sunny days, you can sit on deck, enjoy the sea breeze, and savor incredibly fresh oysters served with simple but excellent wine. Everything here feels authentic, relaxed, and full of character.
The owner is as charming as the place itself. Her warm welcome, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality make the experience even more special.
If you’re looking for a unique and authentic experience in Honfleur, away from the busy tourist spots yet only minutes away, this is a place you shouldn’t miss. A true hidden treasure.
And the name of the spot seems really empowering.
Danny Wong★★★★★
Having fresh oysters right on a boat is such a wonderful and authentic experience! L'union fait la force is a charming little bar à huîtres owned and run by a very sweet, hardworking couple.
The oysters themselves were incredibly fresh and delicious, served beautifully on a bed of seaweed with lemon, butter, and a lovely mignonette sauce. It is also a wonderfully dog-friendly spot—Chuchu was very happy just relaxing on the wooden deck in the sun!
The service here is exceptionally friendly. Because it is a small, two-person operation, the couple can occasionally get a bit overwhelmed when a large crowd arrives all at once. However, rather than being an issue, watching them navigate the rush together truly embodies the name of their shop ("unity makes strength") and just adds to the local, team-spirited charm of the place.
One gentle reminder for future visitors: This establishment is cash only. It isn't a complaint at all, just a helpful heads-up so you can come prepared to enjoy a great meal without any stress! Highly recommended for a relaxed, waterside bite.

This has been one of our go to locations as we stayed in Honfleur for two months. The Galettes were our normal reason for coming here. However, I do have to warn that there is a bit of consistency variance. What you see in our photo is hopefully what you will get, however, we have received portions that were about 1/3 smaller with less chicken. It may just be who the cook is in the kitchen. The ambience is great, looking out over the harbor. We only had our favorite waitress there one time, but she was a very memorable person and a real sweetheart. She was raised in Brooklyn originally by two French parents.

Tried L’Albatros for breakfast. Ordered their ham & egg breakfast with croissant. What I liked about the place more than anything was their authentic “coffee shop sound”. That background calm noise when people talk slowly in a coffee shop. I guess their acoustic structure makes it beautiful, specially early morning.

For shame on the people running this establishment for charging €13.20 for a pint of beer. Friendly service, but the astronomical price for a pint of beer leaves a very sour taste in the mouth. Lesson learned, always check the price ...but you shouldn't really have to.

Great unpretentious bar.

A very pleasant little café. It's been over 20 years since I've been in a café and the owner has been waving hello; it's really nice. I highly recommend it.
Christian Lubrano★★★★☆
Just a quick coffee break. Friendly welcome, family atmosphere.

This is yet another example of how society is today. Our son (2 years old) urgently needed to urinate. Unfortunately, we were refused access to the toilet. We would have paid for it.
Tips for Enjoying Honfleur’s Bar Scene
To make the most of your evening in Honfleur, it helps to understand a few local customs and practical details. The following tips will save you time, money, and potential disappointment, especially during peak tourist season.
First, embrace the French apéritif hour. Most bars open around 5 p.m. or 6 p.m., and the period between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. is the best time to secure a prime terrace seat. Drink prices are often lower during happy hour, and the light over the harbour is at its most photogenic.
Second, carry some cash. While most bars accept cards, smaller establishments and busy pop-up terraces sometimes have minimum card spends or unreliable payment terminals. A few coins for a tip, though not obligatory, are appreciated when you receive table service.
Third, do not overlook the local specialities. Ordering a glass of Normandy cider, a Pommeau, or a young Calvados is often cheaper than imported spirits and gives you a genuine taste of the region. Ask the bartender for a recommendation rather than defaulting to a generic cocktail.
Fourth, dress comfortably but neatly. Honfleur is not a strict dress-code town, but smart-casual attire will help you feel at ease in wine bars and hotel lounges. Cobblestones and steep lanes also mean sensible footwear is a must.
Fifth, be aware of seasonal closing times. Many bars reduce their hours or close entirely for a few weeks in January and February. If you are visiting in winter, check social media pages or call ahead rather than relying on outdated online listings.
Sixth, pace yourself with Norman measures. Calvados and Pommeau are stronger than they taste, and generous hospitality can lead to a very short evening. Alternate with water or a light cider if you plan to visit several venues in one night.
As the evening winds down over the estuary, Honfleur reveals a quieter, more intimate side. The crowds thin, the water stills, and the glow from bar windows spills across the wet cobblestones. It is a town made for slow evenings and unhurried conversation.
Whether you choose a historic cellar filled with ageing Calvados or a modern bar pouring natural wine, the best experiences come from curiosity and a willingness to linger. Raise a glass to the sailors, painters, and cider makers who shaped this remarkable port.
