15 Best Bakeries in Honfleur

Honfleur’s cobbled lanes, timber-framed houses, and busy Vieux Bassin have made it one of Normandy’s most cherished coastal towns. While its art galleries and maritime history draw the crowds, the local food scene is just as compelling. For anyone with a sweet tooth, the town offers a remarkable journey through French baking tradition.

A morning walk here is often guided by the scent of warm butter, caramelizing sugar, and fresh yeast. From delicate viennoiserie to rustic sourdough, the choices reflect both Norman heritage and modern craft. Locals take their bread seriously, and visitors quickly learn why the term boulangerie-pâtisserie carries such weight.

The challenge isn’t finding a bakery; it’s choosing which ones deserve your appetite. Some specialize in regional classics like teurgoule or Norman apple tarts, while others shine with flawless croissants and creative patisserie. Knowing where to go can turn a simple breakfast into a memorable highlight of your trip.

This guide focuses on quality, consistency, and the authentic character of each establishment. I’ve considered ingredient sourcing, baking techniques, local reputation, and the overall experience for visitors. Whether you want a quick baguette for a picnic by the estuary or an elegant dessert to end an evening, there’s a perfect spot waiting.

The following list is organized to help you navigate Honfleur’s best baking addresses without wasted steps. Each entry reflects a commitment to craftsmanship that honors both French tradition and the town’s unique coastal identity. Use this as your starting point for a delicious exploration.

If you’re visiting Honfleur, make sure you stop by Pollen — it’s an absolute gem in this beautiful little village. The pastries are incredible: buttery, fresh, perfectly baked, and honestly some of the most delicious we’ve had. Everything tastes like it’s just come out of the oven, and it’s impossible to leave without wanting more. It does get very busy, especially when it comes to tables and service, but it all comes together eventually and is well worth the wait. The staff are amazing — efficient, friendly, and clearly doing their very best to accommodate everyone and keep things moving. Thankfully, the table turnaround is pretty quick too. Definitely eat there if you can, and don’t leave without buying extra pastries to take with you for the onward journey. You’ll regret it if you don’t!

If you ignore the hairy croissants and absolutely horrendous service, the toilet was good. Forgot to mention- in the kitchen they do not use gloves/anything to cover their hair.

Most amazing chocolate, croissant and cappuccino. Very nice place ☕️ 🥐 👍🏻👍🏻

Good: cute interior Bad: pretty bad and overpriced coffee and very underwhelming croissants. I live in NYC and have tried a lot of croissants and this one doesn’t come close to the better ones I had in New York (in fact it’s below average). Iced coffee was around 6 euros and it was from an nespresso machine.

This place deserves 10 stars! It might just be the best boulangerie we went to in all of France! Their baguette 🥖 was perfectly baked with a great crust and a lovely bready sweetness, the Calvados mille feuille was amazing! So flaky with a really flavorful Calvados cream, and the croissant 🥐 and pain au chocolat is definitely in the top 3 of best I've ever had (so flaky outside, tender and buttery inside, delicious chocolate). Plus the ladies are all super friendly, helpful and sweet!!

The cake is so delicious and like the Petit Four most! It’s mini size and let me can try all the favour! So good and it sold out fast!

You can see why the locals queue to buy from this fantastic shop. The selection and quality of the products is just superb. If you are travelling through this area and have an EV. Charge at the nearby Kyraid Hotel and walk down to this Boulangerie for refreshments.

You need to pay an extra 0,5/1 euro for each item if you would like to eat in, and the waiters don’t bring the order to your table, you have to take it yourself. So it’s not clear what this charge is for. And this is the worst hot chocolate I ever had, it’s basically just cocoa powder poorly mixed with water. I understand that it may not be the right place to order a hot chocolate, but the title is completely misleading.

Not cheap but excellent & care taken to make cappuccino was impressive. Assortment of pastries & sandwiches. Eat in or take out. Loved it….so French

First time they forgot to make our coffees and had finished our pastries and had to ask about our coffee. Service at the counter is efficient. Really nice selection.

Not sure why this bakery has a low rating, the pastries are very nice, the staff where friendly and humoured my terrible French while ordering. Worth a try along with the many other bakeries in the area.

What a great example of a superior French Boulangerie. Great selection of your obligatory 'pain' and pastries and the expansive menu of fancy pieces. All served by the friendliest and most helpful staff, willing to tolerate abysmal French vocabulary and pronunciation!

Amazing bakery. Limited choice but great quality, taste, and presentation. The deserts and pastries are amazing. We love the organic bread. More expensive than traditional bakeries but worth it. This is the bakery for the Saquana restaurant so if you arrive late in the day you may not find all the choices hou have in early mornings.

What a gem! From food presentation to cutlery to furniture to interior design—you see beauty in every detail. We had lunch here. The main dishes were Michelin-star worthy. The bread & butter was scrumptious. Then came the plateau of pastries which wowed all around. Every pasty we selected was both creative and divine. I want to come back for breakfast and dinner!

Lovely artisan bakery and patisserie on the outskirts of town. Spacious inside with comfortable seating at tables or Sofas, and a few tables outside where locals take their morning coffee and croissant. Only French spoken, but it's easy to communicate with the helpful and smiling staff. Food is fresh and tasty. Not to be missed. Just down the road from the free carpark.

An absolute gem in Honfleur! We stumbled across this shop one morning during our stay. The lady who runs it is absolutely lovely! It is predominantly a chocolate shop but is also a boulangerie. They had croissants, pain au chocolat, and what appeared to be an apple turnover. I tried the croissant and pain au chocolat and genuinely, they were the BEST I have ever had! Incredibly flaky, buttery, and well worth getting up early for. At just €1.25 each, it’s an absolute steal. Note: It is takeaway only

What an amazing Flan Natural!
Sjoerd van Tiel★★★★☆
Basic small bakery with good traditional 'baguette' bread and croissants. Limited choice of cakes and pastries (raspberry, apple etc.).
Daniel Rydle★★★☆☆
Bakery with very good tasting bread and cakes. Unfortunately, no one spoke English and you had to buy for at least €10 in order to use a credit card. Furthermore, we realised that they for some odd reason do not accept credit card payments on Sundays. So in summary, the bread was good but the service definitely needs improvement.
Nicholas Dear★★★★★
Easter 2022, visited three boulangeries to determine best baguette (Eric Kayser, Au Bon Pain Quotidien) and this one.). This place pipped the others to the post for the best baguette which twice was fresh out of the oven.

The citron tart tastes like aluminum. The flan is rubbery. Baguettes are delicious.

Sometimes the best restaurant experiences are the ones you walk into with absolutely no expectations. Le Brunch Café in Honfleur completely exceeded ours — from the delicious food and gorgeous cakes to the refreshing drinks and warm, attentive service. We were genuinely mesmerised by the whole experience. Highly recommend! ✨

A very nice brunch Menue if you are searching for a good brunch here is a good place. They also offer oat milk in your coffee 🙂
Perla Barbara★☆☆☆☆
Very bad service. They are extremely slow. We waited almost 45 minutes for two coffees and an avocado toast! As tourists passing through Honfleur for just one day, coming to this café was a waste of time. The avocado toast was less than normal just toast with avocado on top. The worst surprise was finding an insect on the lettuce, which clearly hadn’t even been washed.
Katie Welch★★★★★
Delicious food and coffee and really beautiful little spot with a view of historic clock tower when you sit out the front. Staff were very welcoming and friendly and it was quick service. Not cheap, but worth the price.

We stumbled upon this charming little tea house while exploring Honfleur, and it turned out to be a wonderful find. The hospitality was exceptional, and we were warmly welcomed from the moment we arrived. We enjoyed a delightful assortment of pastries, including apple crumble, madeleines, and a strawberry tart. Our children especially loved sharing a slice of the chocolate and almond loaf. We also tried the croque monsieur, which was absolutely delicious. Everything we tasted was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. A lovely spot to relax and enjoy some wonderful French treats while visiting Honfleur. Highly recommended!

Beautiful spot for a drink and a cake in Honfleur! It is central, but away from the crowds of tourists. The interior is beautifully decorated and many of the things on display — ornaments, mugs, homeware — are for sale, and for such good price! Everything is so beautiful that is worth visiting to shop, even if you don’t want to eat. We bought a few things as presents and the owner spent so much time wrapping them thoughtfully and so beautifully. The cakes and pâtisseries were exquisite. The tea was served in gorgeous chinaware and the smoothie was also incredible!! The owner is one of the nicest people ever — she makes you feel so incredibly welcome in her tea salon! You have to stop here while you’re in Honfleur!

Can’t speak for the other lower reviews, but our experiences here were good on both visits. Croissants are rich, flaky and buttery and the traditions are fresh and crusty. Service was both friendly and quick, and this during the height of the summer holidays.

The raspberry madeleine was the best I’ve ever had - it was bursting with flavour that lasted long after the last bite. The tart aux pommes was also very flavourful and nicely chewy. Also, incredibly nice owner! Would recommend this place while you’re near the harbour front.

Some of the best pastries from our trip. One star lost because the service was very slow. A very long wait to be served.

Don’t trust the low reviews. It’s a small gem with very tasty pastry. Prices are not cheap but what we bought tasted really good.

The food was truly inedible. It's the first time Ive ever had to send something back. The chicken in my salad was dry and tasted spoiled, which is inexcusable. I asked for anything else without pork and all they had was pizza - a big block that was equally disgusting. I'm really upset I wasted my time here. I cannot recommend this at all.

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea at Maison Ravend in Honfleur. The pastries were delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. A perfect place for a sweet treat.

The bread was excellent. The salads were reasonably priced, but the portions were reasonable and fresh. We also really enjoyed the apricot flan. It was delicious and a generous slice. We thoroughly enjoyed it! The place was clean. There was outdoor seating available. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Giulia★★☆☆☆
Unpleasant experience! Not much selection at the counter, and we had ordered two pains au chocolat, one cookie, and two espressos. Because of the long line, the only person working the shop asked me to wait for the coffees, so we sat down at the tables to enjoy the pastries (which were very good). The coffees were slow in arriving, and when I went to remind him, the clerk said I had to pay again because we had already ordered the coffees. After a difficult discussion in a mix of English and French, we left without ordering the two espressos, even though we had paid for them!! Terrible!

Try the pain au chocolat, it's delicious and big. Here's a photo of half of it!

Get the buttery pastries in the window. The pistachio and almond were especially good. We didn't like the caramel or caramel apple flavors as much. Be careful with the chocolates that are sold by weight - they get heavy fast! Our little bag of chocolate was more than 15€. Next time, I would skip the chocolate and just get the pastries.
Sebastian Butterfield-West★★☆☆☆
I tried two of the items: one of the round sponge cakes displayed in the window and then one of the packaged sablé cakes inside. Neither tasted nice, both were too full of preservatives and had quite a plastic taste. I can’t speak for any of the other items. Shop is very pretty though

Practical Tips for Visiting Honfleur’s Bakeries

A little planning can significantly improve your bakery experience in Honfleur, especially during peak tourist months. Understanding local rhythms and customs helps you avoid long waits, sold-out favorites, or disappointment. These practical tips are based on how the town’s bakeries actually operate and what local regulars know.

Go early for the best selection. Most bakeries bake their viennoiserie and specialty breads before dawn. Arriving between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. gives you the widest choice of croissants, pains au chocolat, and seasonal tarts. By early afternoon, many small-batch items sell out.

Carry cash for small purchases. While many bakeries now accept cards, some traditional shops have minimum amounts or prefer cash for a single baguette. A few euros in coins keeps transactions quick and courteous, especially on busy market days.

Ask what’s baked on-site. Not every item in a French bakery window comes from the back oven. In Honfleur, the best shops proudly label fait maison or can tell you exactly which breads and pastries are made in-house. A simple question ensures you’re tasting authentic local craft.

Embrace the seasonal specials. Normandy’s produce defines the bakery calendar. Look for apple-based pastries in autumn, rhubarb or strawberry tarts in late spring, and galette des rois in January. Choosing seasonal items means fresher ingredients and a true taste of the region.

Order like a local. For a baguette, ask for une tradition if you want the higher-quality flour version. If you’re buying multiple items, a polite bonjour first is essential, and a simple merci, bonne journée goes a long way. Bakeries are social spaces, not just quick stops.

Plan for Sunday and Monday closures. Many independent bakeries close one or two days a week, often Sunday afternoon or Monday. Check opening hours in advance, especially if you’re planning a picnic or early departure. Hotel staff can usually recommend the nearest open option.

Honfleur rewards those who slow down and taste with attention. A flaky croissant eaten on a bench near the Vieux Bassin, a wedge of Norman apple tart shared after a coastal walk—these small rituals stay with you long after the trip ends.

The town’s bakeries are not just places to buy food. They are living expressions of local pride, family tradition, and a deep respect for ingredients. Each visit supports the people who wake before sunrise to keep Honfleur’s streets smelling like butter, sugar, and warm bread.
