15 Best Rooftop Bars in Dijon

Dijon, the historic capital of Burgundy, is renowned for its mustard, medieval architecture, and world-class wine. Yet, as the sun sets over the tiled roofs of the Ducal Palace, a different side of the city comes alive. The skyline is dotted with hidden terraces and elevated escapes that offer a refreshing perspective on this UNESCO-listed city.

For locals and travelers alike, the search for the perfect vantage point is a favorite evening ritual. Whether you are looking to sample a crisp Chablis or a craft cocktail, the elevation adds a layer of magic to the experience. The gentle hum of the city below mixes with the clinking of glasses to create an atmosphere that is distinctly Burgundian.

The concept of the "rooftop bar" in Dijon often differs from the sprawling mega-clubs of Paris or Lyon. Here, the venues are often intimate, blending seamlessly with the historic stone architecture. They offer a cozy, sophisticated environment where the focus remains on the quality of the drink and the beauty of the surrounding spires.

From panoramic views of the Palace of the Dukes to garden terraces overlooking the Church of Notre-Dame, the options are diverse. Some spots are hidden within boutique hotels, accessible only to those who know where to look, while others are bustling social hubs in the city center. Finding the right one depends on the mood you are chasing.

This guide curates the finest elevated drinking experiences the capital of Burgundy has to offer. We have considered the quality of the drinks, the uniqueness of the view, and the overall ambiance to bring you a list that satisfies both the oenophile and the cocktail enthusiast. Prepare to see Dijon from a whole new altitude.

Without further delay, here are the top spots to elevate your evening in Dijon.

We visited Pica-Pica for both lunch and dinner, and both experiences were excellent. This brand-new restaurant, which opened in April 2026, has already become one of my favorite spots in Dijon. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, the team is genuinely welcoming, attentive, and passionate, and the food speaks for itself. The kitchen is honest and consistent across the board, with fresh ingredients, well-balanced flavors, and dishes prepared with care rather than unnecessary complexity. The pricing is also very fair for the quality of the experience, making it a place that’s easy to recommend whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch or enjoying a leisurely dinner. A fantastic addition to Dijon- on the rooftop in the center - I’ll definitely be back.

We only came for a drink. Good beer and nice mocktail. Service was very friendly and we got a place with Nice view. Dogs are allowed. we would come back.
Steve Alexander★★★★★
A really nice experience. Food very well presented and very edible. Staff coped well with the multinational group of 11.

Managed to finally get in last night. Stepped into an overcrowded bar then led to a table packed into the outside dining space. No view of the city unless you tiptoe and stand over the large grey borders from that area. Rather pretentious and more about being seen there than a nice place to be.

It’s expensive, did take a margarita (you won’t have salt sadly). The view + service people + atmosphere is nice. But it’s expensive :/

The weirdest meal experience I have ever had. Not because the food was experimental (as it didn’t really seem to be )but because they packed away the restaurant around us! They stated lunch service until 2.30 and we arrived before 2 pm but as diners left they literally cleared the tables around us until we were left sitting on the only table in the restaurant! Luckily we only had one course and so could then leave but it was really rude!
John Primmer★★★☆☆
Wanted to try the Sunday Brunch as we were staying in Dijon for a few days. Pretty standard buffet fare, only 'experimental' dish I could find was th sous vide boiled egg. Huge range of hot and cold items. A good family experience. €32 adult, €16 children. Maybe need to try it another time to see what is on the experimental menu.
K B★★★☆☆
The food on the brunch was mostly okay, with some exceptions. Not worth the price though, and did not meet my expectations. Tough and overcooked meat, overcooked vegetables. The cheese board seemed to have a nice selection, but was completely messed up, so I have no idea of which cheeses I ate. And some kind of "free entertainment" was going on throughout the brunch - a false singing, live cover band with terrible music taste at way to high volume. I wouldn't come back!
George Kassar★★★★★
Excellent service and super friendly waiters. Very tasty food. Surprisingly very budget friendly. Highly recommended !
Henry Hancock★★☆☆☆
Like a horrible cafeteria - certainly not worth the time or money going there - 2 hot main courses in offer today dried out and cold, small choice of entrees and small choice of desserts the only redeeming thing was the cheese platter and that was scarce there is much more to offer in this village of even in the town central

We just happen to pass by when arriving to our hotel. What a pleasant surprise! Even though it was already past 22h30 they still offered food. I can tell you that the pulled pork burger they had on the menu must be the best I ever had! It was so juicy! Delicious! The staff was also very friendly. Recommend!

Best Tiki drinks and rum selection. Service is amazing, with a special shout-out to Tomas for his rum knowledge. We came back over multiple days because of the drinks - especially the Bahama Mama, which is the best I have ever had.

One of my personal top 10 cocktail bars world wide. Super inventive drink menu that is perfectly executed. Menu has both classics done their way and some novel inventions. All the drinks we had were perfectly crafted and balanced. The vibe is excellent, the bar has super cozy areas and even some set apart rooms.
Kinsuk 31★★★★☆
First time in Dijon and went to Monsieur Motarde after hearing about it. The place was fabulous and the wine was great. The people were polite. However when asked for the bill, we were asked to go to the counter to pay. When I'm paying 12€ for a glass of wine, I want my bill to come to the table. Moreover the guy asked me if I wanted to add 10% tips, and it was already on the screen. I think that's a very poor judgement given there was no service other than serving the wine. If the bill was brought to the table I would have think differently.
Sarah G★★★★★
Very beautiful and cozy atmosphere in an old building nicely renovated and decorated. Extensive list of cocktails, wines, whiskies.. Friendly service.
Isabel Diaz★★★★★
I had the loveliest time at Monsieur Moutarde in Dijon! I sat out in their gorgeous garden – such a beautiful and relaxing setting, the perfect spot to unwind. I was so impressed with their creative mocktail menu; it’s fantastic to see such interesting non-alcoholic options. I tried two and both were absolutely delicious and refreshing. The snacks were equally wonderful – I especially enjoyed the gyoza (Raviolis Japonais aux légumes et au poulet, Duo de sauces Soja, Oignons frits, Coriandre) which were bursting with flavour and perfectly paired with the dipping sauces. The staff were warm, attentive, and the service was impeccable from start to finish. Monsieur Moutarde is truly a gem in Dijon – I can’t wait to return! 🌿🍹🥟
H Duenow★★★★★
A great place to grab a drink in Dijon. If you’re visiting, this should be a definite stop on your list. The atmosphere is really amazing from chic indoor seating areas to the outdoor patio that makes you feel relaxed just sitting there. The cocktails are great too - definitely try one of their signature drinks, it just adds to the experience.

Came here at a recommendation from another bar and it’s amazing. The cocktails are fantastic and the bartender/mixologist is great. I sat at the bar just to watch them work. She was great and made me anything I asked for. The best cocktail I’ve had in Dijon for sure. A must visit.
Igor Georg Schneider★★★★☆
Cozy athmosphere in a nicely decorated bar. Service was very good and fast. The cocktails are good with some interesting inventive versions of well-known cocktails - but they're not mind-blowing. But definitely decent, good drinks. Would go again.
Caro Boeri Dollberg★★★★★
Loved the parsley cocktail 🔥 cocktails are really really good. So it’s a must in Dijon!

Charming and cozy cocktail bar with inventive local cocktails and delicious small bites. Service was very friendly and accommodating to our absent French language skills. We had 4 different cocktails between us, and all were excellent and unique. Highly recommend!

We didn't try the house cocktails, but the team made beautiful negroni and old fashioned-style drinks for us with French spirits that were delicious. Small plates were also very good, but especially the époisse emulsion served with roasted potatoes. Very welcoming service and cozy atmosphere.

Such a cute courtyard and also a really elegant feeling bar. Cocktails well priced €11-€20ish.

We visited this place after dinner while traveling in Dijon with friends. Although we didn’t speak French very well, they kindly communicated with us in English. When we showed interest in the wines, they even let us taste a few samples. The atmosphere was wonderful, the food and drinks were delicious, and the prices were reasonable. In particular, the service from the staff was excellent. Their friendly smiles and relaxed attitude made us feel comfortable and allowed us to truly enjoy our time there. Because we spent our last night in Dijon so pleasantly at this lovely bar, we’ll remember our trip to Dijon positively. I highly recommend this bar.

Cozy place. Fine drinks and food. Great spaces for fun with your friends including a piano downstairs. Only recommendation: one of the waitors could improve his mood a bit. I am editing this comment and putting an additional star. I went back on Dec 6 to this place and had one of the most fun evenings of my time in Dijon. Great service, indded. Well done!

We were guests at this hotel and requested a drink at 22:45, only to be told the bar was already closed, despite other guests sitting around enjoying drinks at that very moment. When we asked reception about it, we were informed that staff decide closing times at their own discretion, sometimes as early as 22:00. This kind of inconsistent and selective service is far from what you would expect from a hotel of this rating. Thoroughly disappointing.
Jenny Linhoff★★★☆☆
We were really disappointed in the coffee. Bitter, weak coffee flavor, not smooth or robust at all. Eight euros for a cappuccino and they just use a push button, instant machine. We didn't hear the machine grind the beans or steam the milk all evening, so the beans aren't freshly ground. Sure enough, when we asked, it's just capsules. Honestly, at that price and in a 5 star hotel, you should be making fresh coffee every time. Hire a barrista and invest in a real espresso maker. Giving three stars because of the ambience and we found the staff very professional.
Ben Delmar★★★★★
Great atmosphere, delicious cocktails, and excellent service. Adel was super friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. Highly recommended 👍 we’ll definitely come back!🙂
Arkady Synhavsky★★★☆☆
Contrary to the other reviews, we had a very nice evening at La Cloche Bar. We wanted a lighter supper and due to pouring rain, elected to stay in the hotel. We were greeted warmly, served promptly and with kindness, never slighted, hurried nor ignored. Our language limitations were not a problem. The bar “snack” menu choices of salad and sandwich were fresh and quite delicious. It’s a hotel bar with hotel clientele and prices, but was perfect for us on a rainy evening. Don’t hesitate to visit.
Dawn Bruno★★★☆☆
I’ve been coming here since 2006 and I’m always hopeful yet always disappointed. I have a home in the area only reason why I occasionally stop in. This is not about the servers it’s about the management. Read your audience. Most of your patrons are older yet your bar continually plays music that is like a nightclub. I never see that young of a crowd here - ever so why wouldn’t you adjust? It just doesn’t fit at least on a Sunday afternoon.

Disastrous experience. There were seven of us, and we were seated at a table for six. We politely asked if it was possible to add a small table, and were curtly told, "No." (There were empty tables everywhere.) We ordered Caesar salads, one person ordered a veal chop, we waited, the salads arrived, and only then were we told, "By the way, we don't have any veal chops for you." Fine. Well, an extra salad then, I guess. The Caesar salads: surreal. Three lettuce leaves, four cherry tomatoes, a little onion, crumbled feta. That's it. We asked for an explanation. "Yes, uh, we're having a problem in the kitchen, uh, would you like fries or steamed vegetables too?" This lunch was like something out of a science fiction movie. And not an apology, not a gesture of goodwill, nothing. Bare minimum service. I hate leaving bad reviews, but this is unacceptable.
Clement Gracyk★★★★★
The Mercure hotel offers a very high-quality setting, and the meal (main course, dessert, coffee) was excellent and plentiful. The service was quick and professional; no complaints whatsoever. Note the superb terrace for the summer.

The best cocktails I’ve had in Dijon. If you like spirit forward drinks, you have to try the “Captain Crunch” photographed below. The bartenders are very friendly. I came in on a Monday and it was surprisingly quiet considering how high-quality the cocktails seem to be. I had to come back the next day before my departure from Dijon and still had a great time. The atmosphere has a quirky charm, and the music tends to be tastefully retro. I hope to come back to it the next time I’m in Dijon.

Wonderful treat in all of France. I’m a big cocktail fan. Been in the industry my entire life. The staff - owner included were super kind, generous and outgoing. I speak very little French and they took such good care of me on my journey in Dijon. I had 4 cocktails and each was different and perfectly balanced and executed. Being from the USA and from a huge cocktail scene France still lacks the knowledge of the cocktail in my opinion and experience. Which is very exciting! There’s so much room for growth and exploration. I can’t wait to visit again! The place is in a very happening and bustling area. Clean and simple and chic — the owner is a fantastic person. If you don’t like cocktails or know the industry go drink wine elsewhere. You’re in the best area of the world for Burgundy wines!
Tess Lane★★★★★
A lively and welcoming bar with creative craft cocktails. The menu describes each drink in detail and even shows the type of glass and in which it is served - very helpful. My husband and I tried 4 cocktails and each was well balanced and delicious. The owner and server were efficient and friendly.

What a great find at this cocktail bar! 🍸 The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the furniture is well-chosen with comfortable club chairs and authentic decor. We had great breakfast and lunch experience in this real french ambience café. Atmosphere is vibrant, food is very tasty, service is very polite and professional. Great choice of traditional dishes. We even got a free after lunch drink, and it was delicious. 😋
Wally Peach★★★★☆
We had a late lunch before an afternoon appointment. Convenient location in the pedestrian downtown area, one block away from the historic Les Halles (G. Eiffel). While the restaurant was busy we were seated almost immediately. Chose a table outside, easily accessible by wheelchair (only one step). Friendly staff attended to us quickly and took our orders. Typical French cuisine and comfort food. Very reasonable prices. Only a few minutes later our dishes were served. We had a Croque Monsieur, Beef Tartare, and a Carpaccio. All served with a side of green salad and French fries.
SEONG YEON LEE★★★★★
Delicious and very reasonably priced. They were kind to us even though we dont speak french well. It looked like a local favorite. I regret not having enough time to try the dessert because we were in a hurry. Even though they seemed very busy, they didn't turn us away. Instead, they kindly asked us to wait at the bar with drink and later showed us to table. I found them friendly.

Don't waste your time and money at this restaurant. It’s a disgrace to Dijon—the gastronomic capital—and a total tourist trap! The beef wasn't even Charolais (just generic EU origin); out of a 300g portion, half was gristle and fat. The sauce was tasteless, and the salad had black leaves. It was truly shameful—and the worst part was the restrooms 😠. Absolutely disgusting. Honestly, give this place a miss. The only saving grace was the service

This was one of the few places that were open a bit later than the typical lunch time. The food was descent. By the time we arrived they had run out of all the lunch offerings like steaks and we had to choose from a small set of options. The steak tartare was tasty but it tasted like salad and I could not taste any meat there because the meat was minced too finely and there was too much mayo inside. The carpaccio was accompanied by hard cheese and sundried tomatoes and the meat was also barely distinguishable. The meat was sliced very well in thin pieces though. The dishes came with sides (fries and salad) and those were good. There was a staff member who spoke French and the staff was friendly overall

Making the Most of the Rooftop Scene

Before you head out to explore these elevated terraces, it helps to understand the local etiquette and logistics. While Dijon is a welcoming city, a little preparation ensures you get the best seat and the best service. The following tips will help you navigate the scene like a local, ensuring your evening is as smooth as the region’s finest Pinot Noir.

Book Ahead for Golden Hour
Dijon is a compact city, and the best rooftop terraces often have limited square footage. If you want to secure a spot during sunset or on a warm Saturday evening, it is essential to call ahead or reserve a table online. Walk-ins are often turned away once the prime viewing spots are claimed.

Dress Smart-Casual
While Dijon is not overly pretentious, the ambiance in these elevated venues leans toward the elegant. Leave the hiking gear at the hotel and opt for smart-casual attire. You will feel more comfortable blending in with the stylish local crowd, especially if you plan to transition from an aperitif to dinner.

Embrace the Local Wines
You are in the heart of Burgundy, so while the mixologists are talented, the wine lists are the real stars. Use the rooftop experience to sample a local Crémant de Bourgogne or a regional Aligoté. These crisp whites and sparkling wines are perfectly suited to a high-altitude toast.

Check the Weather and Wind
Because many of these terraces are nestled among historic buildings, they can be susceptible to sudden breezes. Even on a warm day, the evening temperature at elevation can drop quickly. Bring a light jacket or scarf, especially if you plan to stay for a late-night digestif.

Understand the Service Style
Service in French bars is generally more relaxed than in some other countries; waitstaff will not rush you. Flagging down a server for the bill often requires patience or a polite gesture. Embrace the slower pace—it is part of the charm of the French art de vivre.

The beauty of Dijon’s rooftop culture lies in its balance between history and modern leisure. As you sip your drink, you are often looking at centuries-old stonework that has witnessed the rise and fall of the Dukes of Burgundy. It is a rare opportunity to feel connected to the past while enjoying the comforts of the present.

Ultimately, the best rooftop bar is the one that fits your personal rhythm. Whether you are seeking a lively social scene or a quiet corner for a romantic conversation, Dijon’s elevated terraces offer a unique way to appreciate the city. So, look up, find a perch, and let the Burgundian skyline do the rest.
