15 Best Restaurants in Santiago de Compostela

Santiago de Compostela is world-renowned as the final stop on the Camino de Santiago, but its culinary landscape is a destination in its own right. Beyond the grandeur of the cathedral and the mystique of the old town, a vibrant gastronomic scene thrives on fresh Atlantic seafood, hearty Galician beef, and time-honored traditions. Whether you are a weary pilgrim looking for a celebratory feast or a curious traveler eager to taste authentic Galicia, the city offers a remarkable depth of flavor.

Navigating the narrow, granite-paved streets of the historic center reveals a dense concentration of dining options, ranging from rustic taverns to refined modern eateries. The local food culture is deeply rooted in the surrounding landscape, from the fertile valleys of the interior to the rugged coastline of the Rías Baixas. Here, the concept of "slow food" is not a trend but a way of life, with recipes passed down through generations.

The sheer variety can be overwhelming, making it difficult to distinguish the truly exceptional from the merely touristy. A great meal in Santiago is about more than just sustenance; it is an immersion into the region’s identity. It involves sharing plates of pimientos de Padrón, cracking open percebes (goose barnacles), and savoring a creamy slice of Tarta de Santiago.

To help you experience the very best of this historic city, we have curated a list of dining establishments that consistently deliver quality, atmosphere, and authenticity. From bustling markets serving the freshest shellfish to hidden wine bars pouring the finest Albariños, this guide covers the essential stops for any food lover. We have considered not only the food but also the unique setting and hospitality that make each location special.

Our selections reflect a commitment to highlighting places that locals cherish and visitors remember long after their journey ends. We have focused on restaurants that prioritize sourcing local ingredients and maintaining the integrity of Galician cuisine. Whether you have just completed the Camino or have arrived by train, your culinary pilgrimage begins here.

What a fantastic dining experience! From the warm, attentive service to the incredible food, everything exceeded our expectations. Our server made sure we felt welcome and well taken care of throughout our meal. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the Solomillo de Vaca (steak), and I chose the grilled octopus, which was tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. For dessert, my husband had the cheesecake and absolutely loved it. I ordered the traditional bread dessert dipped in wine, served with ice cream and a delicious sauce—it was unique, flavorful, and the perfect ending to an amazing meal. We would definitely return and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for excellent food, outstanding service, and a wonderful dining experience.

Perfect end to the Camino. Booked a table through Google last minute because of the good reviews. As a solo traveller it can be difficult to find good restaurants with appropriate portions, but I was received with such warmth and considerate service making the meal very enjoyable. The ensaladilla with shrimp was refreshing, very suited for the hot weather. The tortilla con pulpo a feira was the most fluffy egg,and the softest octopus! Seasoning a bit on the salty side but great taste nonetheless. Definitely recommend people to try this place, especially with family / friends because the variety of dishes they serve would make you so sad for not being able to try all of them.

If you want authentic Galician seafood that tastes like absolute genius, this is the place. The scallops were incredibly fresh and bursting with homemade flavour. Beyond the phenomenal food and the beautiful ambiance, the staff is what truly makes this place special. They are super friendly and have a magical gift for making every single guest feel warmly welcomed and enchanted throughout the evening. An unforgettable dining experience, highly recommended!
Yolly Gomez★★★★★
One couldn’t expect more… the whole experience was amazing, we ordered: pulpo a feira, canelón de centollo, and bacalao (cod) … no words to describe it, it was just incredible, one of the best meals ever … and to add to cherry to the top, the desert the most incredible cheese cake you will ever have, it in fact we couldn’t help ourselves and ordered one to go and eat it later our hotel room. Five stars to the Chef 🌟
Violina Dimitrova★★★★★
Must try - the canelloni with crab. The pulpo, of course, was incredible too. The pan con masa madre - awesome, super delicious and also the salad with tomatoes and boniato. We definitely recommend you reserving. Also, the albariño wine was just awesome.

An exceptionally well considered menu delivering excellent standards both in taste & texture. Every mouthful was a joy! Service was polite, professional, helpful and accomadating. A tightly run ship that catered to all our needs just perfectly. Set in a wonderfully atmospheric old building, an easy stroll from the old town. Peaceful and relaxed, perfect juxtaposition to the bustling spots experienced in this wonderful city. Our only regret: discovering O Senderio on our last night! We will have to return! If I were to offer the kindest of constructive feedback, I would suggest that the specials menu also be offered in a written format. These were very clearly explained to us but due to my hearing loss I had to ask our waiter to repeat descriptions more than once. He did so kindly but I think it would have been easier for him & myself had we been able to read the descriptions. A small thing in the greater scheme of what was a wonderful meal in a wonderful restaurant!
PinkPanda★★★★★
We came here for a special dinner during our trip. We arrived right at opening time (19:30) and were seated immediately without a reservation. We chose to sit inside, where the atmosphere was cozy and warm — almost like being in a spacious wine cellar. The staff were patient, accommodating, and attentive throughout the meal. We asked if they could make vegetarian croquetas in addition to the meat ones (not on the menu), and they were happy to do so. The pulpo a feira (thinly sliced octopus in olive oil) was excellent. The tomato salad was delicious — tomatoes were in season, and the staff recommended it. I had the pork shoulder, which was really good. Someone in our group ordered the vegetarian risotto and found it good but not amazing. Another had the cod and said it was okay. Dessert was the highlight. We shared three different ones: the cheesecake was absolutely delicious, and the millefeuille was also great. The chocolate cake with ice cream was just ok. Prices are reasonable, but since we all had drinks (no wine, just juice), starters, mains, and desserts, the total added up — almost 130€ for three people. When paying, the staff simply charged us for what we ordered and didn’t prompt or pressure us to tip, which was genuinely appreciated. Overall, we had a great experience and would highly recommend this restaurant.
Serena Lim★★★★★
I think this was one of my best meals in Galicia. Croquettes were super delicious, amazing flavours. The blue fish was raw, accompanied by fresh green snap peas. Cheesecake was gorgeous and light.. and the service was wonderful. I also explored the local neighbourhood. A really welcomed change from the old town.
Gökhan Gökmen★★★★★
The atmosphere is great. We sat in the garden, which is magical. service was very friendly and super fast. The king prawns starters were the highlight of the night, we were extremely happy with our wine selection and even its needs price. The entrecote was good, but could be better. As main dish, I recommend to take the hake.
Lucía Pérez Castro★★★★★
After trying many restaurants in Santiago de Compostela, this place has easily earned a spot in my top three. The service is excellent, and the kitchen shows real consistency—every dish is well-balanced, with spot-on seasoning and cooking. The starters were very enjoyable overall. The croquettes were outstanding: perfectly crispy on the outside and smooth on the inside, with an impeccable texture. In terms of flavor, my favorites were the mushroom ones, followed by the beef cheek, and then the chorizo. The prawn with corn was tasty, though a bit small for sharing, and not every bite carried the full balance of flavors. The salmon salad could have used just a little more salmon compared to the rest of the ingredients. On the other hand, the Russian salad stood out, with a truly excellent mayonnaise. For mains, the beef cheek is a sure choice—rich, well-executed, and perfectly balanced. The ravioli and the hake felt more refined and culinary-focused, although, like some starters, the portions were slightly on the smaller side for the price. That said, the quality across the board is undeniable. Desserts are highly recommended and definitely worth saving room for. The petit suisse was the most original, and the cheesecake had a lovely sweetness without being heavy or overly rich. Overall, a place with fantastic quality and attention to detail. A few portion adjustments would make the experience even better, but it’s still a restaurant I’ll gladly return to.

I came early and the place wasn’t busy yet. One of waiters wasn’t the most welcoming just asked me to step aside. While ordering he wasn’t much helpful or couldn’t care less. Our grilled squids were tasty, the pork cubes with fries were good, but a strange combination. After 9pm a big tour group came it and it was even harder to get his attention.
Anna-maria Kotze★★★★★
Tomy was our waiter and was absolutely fantastic! He helped us with our choice of wines, help with the menu and could speak English very well! The food was amazing and the service so fast and effecient. So glad we reserved, because the restaurant was packed at middle May. Highly recommended!!
Apple Tan★★★★★
Random pick for this place as last day in Santiago. The portion of meat set is worth the price, comes with meat, sausage, salad and fries, really huge portions for Asian. Octopus here is really good quality too. White wine, beers are good too~ Everything we spent €52 for 3 pax, worth the price! Just the table abit small for us.
sarah roche★★★★☆
Lovely restaurant. Very efficient and polite star. The young girl behind the bar (from Venezuela) who served me was so nice and friendly, chatting to me as I was a solo diner. The octopus was tender and the baby squid was very nice, I thought the oil used may not have been olive oil, or perhaps a pool quality oil which tasted less delicious than I would have like. Overall nice experience.
Arsenio Fernandez★★★★★
Good place! Fantastic local food, big offer of regional dishes with good variety of beer, but not Estrella de Galicia, it was a big surprise. Rations not so big, but really tasty. Staff great very nice and helpful. A good option to stop for a Galician lunch

The food and service were great. I had a "celebration lunch" here for finishing the Camino. Really interesting and flavorful dishes, beautiful presentations, and great ingredients. The service was also great and attentive. I was dining solo and had a bar seat watching the kitchen. Very cool. My favorite was a dish with raw tomatoes with a cold pepper puree/sauce. Incredibly interesting flavors and textures. I especially thought the "heat" of the pepper sauce contrasted nicely with the "cold" temperature. The sommelier made great recommendations, my favorite being an apple cider that paired nicely with the desserts.
Howard Chu★★★★★
Amazing food and truly an exceptional dining experience. We were a family of three and we will definitely remember this restaurant. Two things I’ll be still thinking about in a year. The first was a green pea and mint cappuccino served in a stemmed glass, it was frothy and warm like a cappuccino but it tasted of fresh pea soup and mint. The second was the oyster, it came on ice under fine dice of red and green pepper which gave it crunch and a little acidity without burying what was underneath. One detail worth flagging: at the end they hand you a QR code linking to a video of everything you ate. I tried to take a picture of each dish but forgot a few. Most meals dissolve into a vague memory of having eaten well. This one we get to keep. The only minor criticism is that we were sitting on a long table shared with other customers which means it was harder to hear what the chef and staff had to say for each dish. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Jelly belly★★★★★
This was truly a fantastic dining experience, the food was exquisite. We made a reservation for lunch one day prior (seems not too difficult to make reservations, at least in this season - early May), it was a set menu of 8 dishes, including 2 desserts. Every dish was well done, created using the most fresh in season ingredients. The chef will ask what’s your preference before hand, for example, my friend cannot have spicy food and I don’t like raw meat, they will then make necessary adjustments based on your profile. Some really standout dishes for me were: 1) Spinach wrapped oyster (I thought with the sauce, the Spinach, the onions, the oyster flavor would be covered, but everything ended up enhancing the fresh taste of oyster); 2) white shrimp with slight wine flavored whipped cream and minced shiitake mushroom; 3) seabass with leeks; and 4) the best sweet we have had the entire Camino trip- two eggs cake, its was buttery creamy, not too sweet, makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. What a wonderful experience! The service was spotless, staff were knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. I also like the decor, feels a bit of vintage vibe with some accents of bright colors, with cheerful music, makes the dining experience here even more chill and relaxing. Oh and the open kitchen set up, very nice! I was expecting some noise and cooking scent, but not at all. Would definitely visit again if I were in Santiago again.
Brittany Dunn★★★★★
We had the most incredible time… if you want a world class dining experience come here. The attention to detail was insane, every course explained with the utmost care. My boyfriend has a number of allergies due to autoimmune diseases and it is very hard for us to eat out. Chef Luis and his team took incredible care of him from the second we sat down, with courses planned out with the allergy list in mind and when we had questions regarding safety for him, they were answered with grace. I cannot recommend enough!! Incredible food, atmosphere & of course wine!
Elena De Troia★★★★★
The restaurant was really good with a wonderful atmosphere. There was lovely music, an amazing chef, and everyone was super friendly and welcoming to us. The only thing we didn’t really enjoy was the violet dessert — everyone said it tasted a bit like soap — and the mille-feuille with vanilla cream. However, the citrus sorbet was excellent, and all the other dishes were wonderful, so I definitely recommend visiting this place.

Absolutely one of the highlights of our road trip in Galicia. The food was amazing and the staff very friendly. Also very pet friendly, which was nice for us as dog owners :). The chef paid us a visit at the end, which was nice and much appreciated. Thank you for your service! Would definitely come back

Very friendly and welcoming staff, feels like walking in a garden inside the restaurant, casual and relaxed vibe for conversations with friends. Food was quite nice, personal favorites were the salmon on top of soft cake and shredded squid inside potato. The leek was not as good as I expected, would like it to be softer and more soaked with flavor.

Amazing dishes! One of the best meals in Santiago de Compostela. Loved the Celery salad and White Chocolate ingot “Yuzu” and Mango desert. Service could be better for a Michelin star restaurant. Recommended!
Inga Krastina★★★★☆
Very nice atmosphere, friendly service, good value. Be aware that the portions are generous, and when it says the dish is for sharing, they mean it. The bolino starter is a not so small loaf of bread with pork and cheese, very tasty, I was more than full from that alone. After that I had another dish, and that was certainly in excess. The fish tempura was not what the Japanese people would recognize under this name, the batter was rather thick, the peaces much bigger than bite size, not a favourite. The white wine was great.
Derek Chan★★★★★
Can definitely recommend the clams in seafood marinara which were so good! Definitely paired well with the bread offered. Surprised they gave a free opening appetizer. Not surprised they were a Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand pick for 2026!

A fantastic meal at A Carballesa Casa de Comidas in Santiago de Compostela. The grilled octopus was excellent, tender, beautifully cooked and served with potatoes and a rich Galician style sauce. The cannelloni were another highlight, creamy and full of flavour, while the chipirón croquettes were a really interesting surprise, with their dark squid-ink filling and crispy exterior. Everything was well prepared, generous and full of flavour, and the glass of local white wine paired perfectly with the seafood. Friendly service, authentic Galician food and a very enjoyable atmosphere. Definitely one of our best meals in Santiago. Highly recommended! 🐙🍷✨
Richard★★★★★
We were escorted here by a lovely lady from their sister restaurant in the old town which was fully booked. Very friendly staff and delicious food at very reasonable prices. Berenjena with Galician honey, empanada and Russian Salad were really tasty. When full it can get quite noisy but there are tables at the front of the restaurant which seemed quieter. Well worth a visit.

Everything was superb! The food was outstanding, the service was exceptional, and the restaurant has a beautiful modern atmosphere. Our server made sure we were well taken care of and spoke English with us, which we really appreciated. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Solomillo de Vaca (steak), and I absolutely loved the grilled octopus—it was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. For dessert, we had the cheesecake, which was light, creamy, and absolutely delicious. We had a wonderful dining experience and would definitely recommend this restaurant!
Ray Hopkins★★★★★
During our trip through Portugal and Spain, after completing the Camino de Santiago, we stayed at a hotel that happened to be very close to this restaurant. We went there twice because it was truly spectacular — in fact, we can honestly say it was the best restaurant we visited during our entire trip. Later, we weren’t surprised to learn that many people consider it the best restaurant in Santiago de Compostela. We highly recommend it! We tried several dishes (photos attached), and every one of them was exceptional — beautifully presented, full of flavour, and perfectly prepared. Our personal favourites were the “fabas guisadas con pulpo y almejas” (a hearty stew served in a small pot with beans, octopus, and clams), the “Arroz de Mel Gibson”, and the cheese and cold cuts board, all absolutely amazing. The service was outstanding on both visits — they made us feel completely at home, with warm and attentive hospitality that truly elevated the experience. The atmosphere is elegant yet cozy, and the overall experience was exceptional. An absolute must-visit in Santiago!
Frannie Heh★★★★★
The food was so good! We were served by a super kind and joyful lady who cheered up our evening. We got the blue lobster rice which was delicious. Everything is fairly priced and the bottle of wine was very tasty. I absolutely recommend coming here. After a long Camino, this was the best celebratory meal!

Last dinner in Santiago de Compostela and it was the crown. Everything was cooked to perfection I opted for the house salad and my friend for the Wellington. Both amazing. The cheesecake was on a whole new level. Service was so nice and made us feel welcome. The restaurant is very elegant. There is a piano in the middle. Reservation recommended

Beautiful Place, Cruel Service👎 I have never been so torn about a review, but the behavior of the staff here cannot be ignored. The Good: The restaurant itself is stunning; it transports you to a romantic, cozy cottage, and the food quality is absolutely incredible. The Detestable: The service completely destroyed the experience. The waiters were actively rolling their eyes at customers, making snide remarks, and mocking people the second they walked away from the table. Worst of all, I was with a friend who recently lost her husband. When she politely asked where the restroom was, the staff guided her, only to turn around and mock her mercilessly behind her back. It was heartbreaking and entirely unacceptable. It is incredibly sad that such a beautiful venue and talented kitchen are being utterly ruined by a mean-spirited, unprofessional front of house crew. Go for the food if you don't mind being ridiculed by the staff.

We went in drawn by the beautiful decor and couldn’t chose between eating inside among all the gorgeous decoration pieces or outside in the vibrant atmosphere. As a bonus, the food was delicious and our server was extremely nice. I would highly recommend and would also return

We had a great dinner! Manuel was absolutely fantastic!! We also had great service by Cristian. The food was excellent and the portions very large! The one disappointing part was listening to an employee by the name of Maike berate a fellow employee, saying horrific things to him in a threatening tone. We were upset with the way she treated a fellow human being! If I were management I would certainly have a conversation with her. She would have been fired the the continuous insults she lashed out! I would be happy to share the vulgarity we overheard. Thank you to Manuel and Cristian for such a lovely evening!!

Off the beaten track (and the hullabaloo of the city centre), simply spectacular food and atmosphere, modern meets traditional. The sauces are to die for. I had to drive, so no wine for me, but the choice is huge… and brilliant value for money

A Maceta Restaurante in Santiago de Compostela delivers a truly next-level dining experience—easily Michelin quality. The red tuna was unbelievably juicy, the fish incredibly fresh, and every dish felt carefully crafted. The wine list is on another level, with around 600 references and over 200 champagnes to choose from. With its different spaces and inviting atmosphere, it’s perfect for a romantic dinner or a special night out. Friendly service, great energy, and food that genuinely stands out—this place is something special.

I found some fusion of Spanish and Japanese dishes here. For example, usuzukuri, which is one of my favorite one, is with the sauce of ponzi and yuzu. If that have choice of sake in their drink menu, it will be wonderful for all of us.
Joe Fernandez★★★★★
Absolutely spectacular my wife and I visited and we really love the ambience and the service is incredible. If you can ask for Monse, she is an amazing waitress and the other thing we do recommend they let them choose the dishes for you and and even the wine they will give an experience that you’ll never forget. Are we really had an amazing time highly recommend. The entire meal, including dessert and various dishes and wine was about €87 for two of us.

Some of the best food I have had. The ugly tomatoes (tomates freas) went really well with the croquettes. Everything top quality and staff were fantastic. We were surprised how cheap the meal was (eur 30 per person) considering how good it was.

Everything was amazing. The staff were incredibly kind and took the time to explain what we were eating and even how best to enjoy each dish, from the first bite to the last. The food was absolutely delicious, and I truly enjoyed the whole evening. While we were waiting for our starters, they served us a lovely leek soup, which was a really nice touch. After dessert, they prepared coffee for us almost instantly, and at the end, we were offered a traditional Galician herbal liqueur, which was a beautiful way to finish the meal. If you want to experience authentic Galician food and learn more about the local culture, I would definitely recommend this place.

Tucked away in the heart of Santiago de Compostela, Curro do Parra delivered one of those memorable lunch experiences that stays with you long after the evening ends. Watching such a talented team work seamlessly in such a small kitchen was a pleasure in itself. We chose to share a selection of dishes, allowing us to enjoy the full creativity of the menu. The organic black tomato salad was simply heavenly—full of flavour and beautifully balanced. The tuna was served change to perfection, while the clams and mussels were fresh, delicate, and packed with taste. To finish, we couldn’t resist the traditional Santiago almond tart, and it proved to be the perfect ending: rich, authentic, and absolutely delightful. A restaurant where genuine hospitality, teamwork, and outstanding ingredients come together. If you’re visiting Santiago de Compostela, Curro do Parra deserves a place at the top of your list. #CurroDoParra #SantiagoDeCompostela #Galicia #FoodLovers #SpanishCuisine #OrganicProduce #BlackTomatoes #SeafoodLovers #TravelEurope #SlowTravel #HiddenGems #CulinaryJourney #SharingPlates #AuthenticExperiences

Anaco impresses with exceptional cooking, especially its seafood. Prawn, lobster, fish and crab dishes were consistently excellent, with balanced sauces and confident execution. Each course felt distinct yet cohesive, showing impressive creativity and restraint. Highlights included the sashimi with potato and aged sherry vinegar, as well as a thoughtfully prepared steak tartare. Desserts were equally well considered, particularly the cheese ice cream with truffle and crumble, which provided a memorable finish. The wine pairings complemented the menu well and reflected a strong understanding of progression. Service was warm, professional and knowledgeable, though greater consistency and attentiveness would elevate the experience further. Small details such as water refills and table maintenance occasionally required prompting. Overall, Anaco stands out for its refined, creative cooking and clear culinary vision. The food alone makes it worth visiting, and with a little more polish in the dining room, it has the potential to become one of the city’s standout destinations.

This was an exceptional dining experience, every bit deserving of its Michelin recognition and so much more. We decided to have the tasting menu, which included nearly every dish (and two desserts!) and each dish left us impressed. The service was above and beyond: taking care to explain each dish in detail as it was served, recommending quality wine pairings throughout the night. I recommend making a reservation and coming hungry!

The tasting menu here is amazing, each dish is very good, but having the opportunity to try so many and such variety brings the meal to another level. I would not want to pick just a few and miss out on trying the others. The way the dishes are cooked and served also seems best appreciated in small tasting portions. Favorites for me were the hake pilpil and dessert with truffle. The service is excellent.

This is arguably the best restaurant I’ve ever been to, I was fortunate to visit some other Michelin star restaurants whilst travelling in Spain, but this topped them all, each dish blew me away. I had the most amazing seat on the bar watching the chefs perfect their craft, it was perfect. I was in shock when they brought me the bill, you will not find better food for that price anywhere worldwide, they could easily be charging double. If you’re near Santiago please visit, could not recommend enough!

What an amazing meal. This was my first proper meal in Santiago on the day I arrived. You can do a la carte since they don’t have that many items on the menu, but I opted for the tasting. The amesaposta option ends up getting you a total of 11 plates. The first portion was an appetizer sample of 3 different pieces followed by 8 different plates of some of the best things I’ve ever eaten and ended with 2 different types of desserts. That’s a total of 11 different plates. I mean it when I say every single plate was original and delicious. Not a single thing was disappointing. If anything, I kept getting more and more impressed as the tasting kept going. The highlights for me was the fish sitting in a bed of oil. My gosh, every bite left me wanting more and more. That octopus was a banger. The crunchy kale really complimented it. The fried clams surprised me in the best way. Whatever that was cooked in needs to be bottled and sold. And lastly, the way the fried egg was prepared is exactly how I want to eat my eggs forever. Crispy on the outside and runny in the middle. The presentation got me weak in the knees. For real The service was outstanding. Even the way the person came over to explain every dish was so personalized. Almost whispering as to not bother the other diners. I loved the approach. I wish they had a wine pairing available, but it’s currently not an option. I did enjoy the vermouth I got. Considering the amount of food you get and how truly amazing it all is, I don’t understand why they’re only charging 50€ Literally all hits. Not one dish was disappointing. Take all my monies Thank you chef and the whole team for one of the best meals I’ve had.

Indómito was one of those dining experiences that was just plain fun. We sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen, which turned dinner into a bit of a show. Watching the team prepare each dish, coordinate the timing, and somehow keep everything moving so smoothly gave me a whole new appreciation for what was happening behind the plate. There is something fascinating about watching a great kitchen operate when you're sitting right in front of it. The head chef made the experience even better. He was welcoming, funny, and engaging, and immediately made the restaurant feel comfortable and unpretentious. There was no stuffiness here—just talented people who clearly enjoy what they do. And then there was the food. Some dishes were simply delicious, while others introduced flavors and combinations that were completely new to my palate. That's part of what made the evening so enjoyable. You never quite knew what the next plate was going to bring, but you were happy to go along for the ride. What I enjoyed most about Indómito was the atmosphere. It somehow feels like discovering a favorite local neighborhood spot while also getting genuinely creative, elevated cuisine. You can relax, laugh, watch the kitchen work, have a great meal, and maybe discover a few flavors you didn't know you liked. If you go, grab a seat at the bar if you can. Watching the kitchen is half the fun. Great food, great personalities, and a wonderfully unique experience in Santiago. I would happily come back.

I stumbled upon this restaurant almost by chance after a quick google search, as I was taking an English exam in the city. It was an amazing experience, everything from the produce quality to the concept, the space and the wonderful menu. Martín pours his heart into this restaurant to bring you a unique experience, he greets you and explains the way everything works and invites you to let him decide what you'll be having. As with any good artist, I recommend letting go and trusting him with whatever he decides is best. This restaurant could be straight out of a big European city like London, retaining a Galician soul with the amazing local produce and wines. I was fascinated to see people in my country and province pushing for excellence and it was an absolute privilege getting to enjoy their art. It's an open kitchen and the vibes and decoration are immaculate. The menu is a brave bet on a vision that pays off, and tastes like heaven.

Indómito was one of the most memorable meals we had in Santiago, and honestly, it feels like a restaurant that’s on the verge of something bigger. TLDR: This is very close to Michelin-star level. If they refine the dessert program just a bit, I see no reason why they couldn’t earn a star as early as next year. What really stood out first was the experience itself. The chef is incredibly friendly and personable—he greets guests, engages with you, and asks thoughtful questions that make the whole meal feel customized rather than transactional. You can tell he genuinely cares about how you’re experiencing each dish. We come from a pretty serious restaurant repertoire, so we don’t give praise lightly—and after one early miss, this meal really took off. The opening scallop crudo was actually the only savory dish that didn’t land for me. The flavors just didn’t quite come together. But from that point on, everything tightened up in a big way. The crab dish was excellent. The sea bream crudo served in an aguachile-style frozen sphere was both creative and delicious—bright, clean, and really well executed. The standout of the night was the grilled leek with escabeche. That dish was insane. Deep, balanced, and packed with flavor—I was literally soaking up every drop of the sauce. From there, it just kept hitting. The grilled monkfish was beautifully cooked (always great to see a premium protein handled properly in a tasting menu), and the quail with what my Filipino wife described as an adobo-style sauce was a powerful, savory finish. Desserts were a bit of a mixed bag. The strawberry and basil dish was refreshing and well balanced, but the carrot cake missed for me—too mushy and overly sweet, especially compared to the precision of the savory courses. Overall, this is a seriously impressive kitchen with a clear point of view. With just a little more polish on desserts, this feels like a restaurant that could absolutely earn a Michelin star in the near future. Highly recommend getting in before that happens.

An absolutely stunning culinary experience. The food is inventive while keeping the classic touches creating a really enjoyable meal. The sommelier deserves an extra dose of praise as he not only remembered what we had each visit but had seen we were coming in and already had wines ready that he thought we’d enjoy. Chef Martín always comes out to discuss the menu with you which is really lovely.
Ekaterina Bii★★★★★
This experience reminds me of the cartoon Ratatouille. Remember that scene where Remy tasted different ingredients and had fireworks in his head? That’s what you feel in this restaurant. Firstly, it was the best Merluza of my life. Secondly, the strawberry dessert made me feel small again, as if my granny made me a bowl of strawberries with sour cream and sugar. Even though some of the dishes lacked texture, I enjoyed it muchísimo. Gracias 🙂

Excellent food. We had croquettes, paella and their signature abuela cake. Best meal we had while in Spain. Highly recommend! And the wine was amazing.

Great place with very attentive and polite waiters, that speak english. I visited with my teenage son during the daytime and it was fully booked, but after 15 min or so they managed to get us in. Cosy place and not loud at all. We ordered the paella (Valencia style) and desserts - chocolate and cheesecake. Everything was delicious and not pricey at all - around 50 euro for the all food. Highly recommend:-)

Lovely service, nice hearty food. Rice with scallops was creamy. The modern "Santiago cake" was different, but very good too. Service was great, very welcoming and warm staff.

Very good service and variety of great paella options. We ordered both Paella Valencia and pork lion with mushroom paella. Both are delicious and 4 of us finished all. We also asked a dish of special fried green bean and they made it! Highly recommend!

We had a opportunity to visit this place for lunch. Although we did not have any reservations they were able to give us a table. The food were amazingly delicious, the scallops were tender and sweet. Plus, we had a squid ink pasta with shrimps which I find really delicious despite its simplicity. We really enjoyed it:) Also, I decided to order additional white vermouth - which we find really good as well.

We were advised by a local that this place was one of the best places to eat in Santiago if we were seeking Galician food. What we got was probably our best meal in Spain, great service, and a wonderful experience. Our meals were outstanding, so I cannot in good conscious provide you with any kind of recommendation other than the octopus is definitely a must. It's a great spot and everyone who lives here knows it.

We had the menu del dia (menu of the day) which was really value for money especially when the scallop we ordered on top of it cost half the price of the menu. The ratatouille was good, and the ribs was excellent. The wine recommended (the rioja) was amazing.

What a wonderful meal. Truly one of the best we ever had. Simple food but prepared with care, skill and accuracy. Each dish, the bread, the wine all surpassed our expectations . Incredible value, lovely setting. We will be back tomorrow (and the day after).

Great decor and atmosphere along with attentive service and fantastic food make this a great choice! The crab Croquetas and the Galician style Pulpo are simply amazing. The Lamb and Secreto perfectly cooked. Portion sizes are on the large side... Not the cheapest restaurant in town but well worth the price, which is very reasonable for the quality of food and service.

Incredibly cozy and loving restaurant. Starting from the ambience of the restaurant, which is very inviting and lovingly decorated, to the staff, which despite lack of Spanish knowledge on my part, fulfilled all my wishes. And finally, the excellent fresh dishes that I can recommend to everyone. I will come again.

We asked to sit at the bar to watch the magic happen. The chef was very welcoming and happily answered all our questions. Awesome restaurant where meals are truly a journey and joyful experience! All the dishes were super tasty! Highly recommend this place especially after Camino!

One of the top 5 meals we ever had. The place is quaint and intimate and the food is a culinary delight that is most deserving of one star Michelin than any other place we have been.

Tips for Dining in Santiago de Compostela

To fully enjoy the gastronomic riches of Santiago, it helps to understand the local dining customs and logistics. The rhythm of the day here differs from many other parts of the world, and knowing when and how to eat will significantly enhance your experience. These practical tips will help you navigate menus, avoid tourist traps, and dine like a local.

Embrace the Late Dining Schedule

Spaniards generally eat much later than visitors from many other countries. Lunch (la comida) is the main meal of the day and is typically served between 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM. Dinner (la cena) rarely begins before 8:30 PM, with most locals arriving at restaurants between 9:00 PM and 10:30 PM. If you arrive at 7:00 PM, you may find kitchens closed or empty dining rooms. Plan your day accordingly by enjoying a late afternoon snack or tapas crawl to bridge the gap.

Understand the Menu del Día

For an excellent value, look for the "Menú del Día" (Menu of the Day) offered at lunchtime on weekdays. This fixed-price menu typically includes a starter, a main course, a dessert or coffee, and a drink, often including wine. It is the best way to experience high-quality, home-style Galician cooking at a fraction of the cost of ordering à la carte in the evening. Many top-tier restaurants offer these menus, making fine dining accessible during the day.

Explore Beyond the Cathedral Square

While the Praza do Obradoiro offers stunning views, restaurants directly facing the main square often cater to tourists with inflated prices and mediocre quality. The true culinary gems are usually found just a few streets away in the winding alleys of the old town or in the residential neighborhoods slightly outside the historic center. Walking just five minutes from the main tourist hubs will dramatically improve your chances of finding authentic food.

Order the Local Seafood and Meats

Galicia is famous for its seafood, and Santiago is the perfect place to indulge. Be adventurous and try specialties like pulpo a feira (octopus with paprika and olive oil), navajas (razor clams), or zamburiñas (small scallops). For meat lovers, the chuletón de vaca gallega (aged Galician beef chop) is a must-try, offering a depth of flavor unique to the region’s cattle. While many menus offer international dishes, prioritizing local specialties ensures a memorable meal.

Pair Your Meal with Galician Wines

Do not overlook the local wine list. Galicia produces some of Spain’s most distinctive white wines, particularly Albariño from the Rías Baixas region, which pairs beautifully with seafood. For reds, look for Mencía from the Ribeira Sacra or Valdeorras regions, known for their elegance and minerality. Asking your server for a local wine recommendation is a great way to discover small producers you won’t find at home.

Santiago de Compostela is a city that rewards the curious eater. The connection between the land, the sea, and the table is palpable in every dish, creating a dining culture that is both humble and profound. Taking the time to explore its restaurants is an essential part of understanding what makes this corner of Spain so special.

Whether you are celebrating the end of a long pilgrimage or simply passing through, the flavors of Santiago will leave a lasting impression. From the first bite of a perfectly cooked scallop to the last sip of a robust local red, the city invites you to slow down, savor the moment, and share in the joy of good food.
