When hunger strikes in Bordeaux, the city’s culinary reputation extends far beyond its legendary wine cellars and canelé pastry shops. While the region is synonymous with fine dining and rich gastronomy, the informal pizza scene has quietly become one of the most exciting and competitive in southwestern France. From wood-fired Neapolitan classics to inventive French-Italian hybrids, Bordeaux offers a slice for every type of eater.
The demand for high-quality pizza in Bordeaux has surged in recent years, driven by a new generation of pizzaiolos who obsess over fermentation, flour provenance, and seasonal toppings. These artisans treat pizza dough with the same respect that Bordelais winemakers treat their grapes, resulting in crusts that are light, digestible, and deeply flavorful. Whether you prefer a blistered cornicione or a thin, crispy Roman-style base, the city’s pizzerias deliver remarkable consistency.
Navigating the Bordeaux pizza landscape requires more than just following the scent of melting mozzarella. The city is divided into distinct neighborhoods, each with its own personality and dining rhythm. From the bustling cobblestones of the Saint-Pierre district to the trendy, artistic streets of the Chartrons, the best pizza spots are often tucked away in locations that reward the curious traveler.
What sets Bordeaux apart from other French cities is its willingness to embrace regional ingredients on top of a traditionally Italian canvas. Local goat cheese, duck breast, and even Bordelaise sauce have found their way onto pizzas, creating a unique fusion that respects both culinary traditions. This local adaptation means that even the most devoted pizza purist will find something new and exciting to taste.
However, with so many options available, finding the genuinely excellent spots can be overwhelming for visitors and locals alike. A mediocre tourist trap can easily disguise itself as an artisan pizzeria, especially in the high-traffic areas near the Garonne river. Knowing where the locals queue up on a Friday night is the key to unlocking the city’s true pizza potential.
To help you cut through the noise, we have curated a definitive guide to the best pizza experiences Bordeaux has to offer. This selection is based on dough quality, ingredient sourcing, atmosphere, and consistency of service. Without further delay, here are the standout establishments you need to try.

I had a wonderful experience at Palatino in Bordeaux. The restaurant itself is very spacious, beautifully decorated, and offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. There are plenty of tables where you can comfortably enjoy a meal with your partner or friends, but I would definitely recommend making a reservation in advance, as there is usually a line at the entrance.
As soon as you step inside, you are welcomed by a charming interior that gives off a stylish 50s-60s vibe. The ambiance is truly unique and adds a special touch to the whole dining experience.
The service is impressively fast, and the staff are incredibly friendly, polite, and attentive. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious. I visited with an Italian friend, and even he confidently approved the authenticity and quality of the dishes.
One of the things that stood out to me the most was the open kitchen located right in the center of the restaurant. Being able to see the food being prepared in front of you creates a strong sense of trust and highlights the cleanliness and transparency of the place.
At the end of your meal, you can conveniently pay through a QR code system provided on the menu. This makes it very easy to split the bill or pay individually without needing to call the staff.
Overall, I truly enjoyed my experience and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Bordeaux. Thank you for the great ambiance, delicious food, and fast, clean, and excellent service!

Beautiful restaurant. Pizza was great. The rest of the menu did not live up to the 4.9 star review. Salad was under seasoned. Pesto sauce didn't have enough nuts to balance the strong basil.
Mick Price★★★★★
We had excellent pizzas the other night at this really cool place. From the outside it looks tiny. But when you step inside, it was absolutely huge and jam-packed with noisy diners! It was fully booked but we got counter seats upstairs at the amazing cocktail bar. The all-Italian crew behind the bar never stopped for even a minute the whole time we were there. Great fun, good vibes, thanks to all the friendly, hard-working staff who create great energy!
Jeff Spencer★★★★☆
Classic choice of Italian intetnational cuisine alongside basics like pizza. Impudent enough to offer a range of good italian/sicilian wines in this delightful roman square in Bordeaux. Friendly if slow service, but a great place to watch the world go round.
María V★★★☆☆
Service was very kind, although a bit slow. And unfortunately we were incredibly disappointed with the consistency and flavour of our pizza. both the tomato sauce and the cheese, aka the essentials, tasted plain and a bit acidic to us. Cannot recommend. The burrata dish on the other hand was so amazing I would consider going back just to have it again and also give the pasta dishes a try.

I probably ordered the wrong thing! I chose the Italian pizza expecting a variety of toppings, what I discovered was a plain pizza base with a couple of boxes of Italian meats, like Parma ham and salami. Unfortunately not what I expected, the other pizzas do look delicious. Probably just choose wrong pizza...

We wanted to grab a quick bite as we just a had a long trip. Stumbled upon this place and it exceeded the expectations. The pizza was very good and the tiramisu was homemade and the best one I ever had (yes I’ve been to Italy). The staff is also really friendly and polite, they are from Italy. So if you want a good Italian restaurant with big portions and friendly vibes this is the place to be.

(It was Roni when I visited in 2023. Oria is just a new name or a change of ownership?) A hidden gem! I didn’t expect to have such good Italian restaurant next to supermarket! Highly recommend Truffle ravioli! Pizza here is authentic Italian.

Honestly, what a find! The pizza was incredible, perfect mix of a fluffy base and a satisfyingly crispy crust. You can really taste how fresh the ingredients are. Once we tried it we needed to come back. What really made the night was the chef; he was so genuinely friendly and made us feel right at home. It’s a cozy little spot in a great location. If you’re a pizza lover, you seriously need to check this place out! 🍕❤️❤️
Rachel Szewczyk★★★★★
This pizza spot was the highlight of our two week vacation. We stopped by here with our three kids, and the owner was absolutely amazing with the kids. He was making jokes with the kids, and he brought them free juice, a special pizza, and dessert to take home! The pizza was great and better than any pizza we’ve had in NYC or DC. I wish we were staying longer in Bordeaux because we would definitely come back. 100% recommend for families!

CroustilleTotale★★★☆☆
Showed up in a crowded (tables staked up), noisy, smoky restaurant (due to a burnt pizzas).
Service team was doing a good work to serve as much customers as possible.
Standard quality for an expensive price.
Know the brand from Paris, had a better experience.
Je suis probablement tombé au mauvais moment, mais je reconnais quand même une volonté de faire du volume en dépit de l’expérience.

One of the best Pizza in the world. The young passionate team really achieves the unbelievable. Pre-order and reservation required on the same day from 4pm phone/on-site.
We have been eating Pizza around the world including in NYC (Joes Pizza), Napoli, Rome, Milan, Sydney, Paris (Pink Mama) and this gem Capperi in Bordeaux pars the legendary Joes Pizza Broadway. The French beating Italians in making Pizza…We fortunately happened to live right next door and tried all the pizza every week. The crust is absolutely the best in the world, so crisp but melts beautifully. Besides that the team is so kind and welcoming! Each of these little gems make this city shine more than the city of light Paris. Love Love Love!!

Very tasty, authentic Italian pizzas. A twelve seat restaurant makes it a very cozy place. Reservations are a must although you can also order pizzas for take away.

Truly one of the best pizzas places in the city! The menu is changed every season, and the pizzas are out of the ordinary. I tried the pistachio pizza which was delicious, with the best buffalo mozzarella ever.
The staff is Italian and very friendly. Be aware though, there are only a few tables so it might be better to book or to take away 🙂
craig slota★★★★★
Ordered 8 pizzas for takeaway and they were all delicious! The restaurant itself was small and cozy and I would love to come back for that experience as well.
Aurel George Proorocu★★★★★
Absolutely WOW! 5 stars+! I believe it’s one of the best pizza‘s I ever ate in my life!
What I tried: Tartufo pizza, tiramisu (excellent!) a rose wine and sparkling water. Photos with everything attached.
Prices are average (€€): a pizza costs between 10-15€ (full pizza menu attached - from 28.06.2019), and a glass of wine around 4-5€. They have a wide variety of Italian (and not only) wines.
The host speaks many languages (English, French, Italian) so it’s easy to order and get around. Chef & help are Italian.
Regarding the place, location-wise it’s quite perfect, since it’s close to the center and you can either have lunch or dinner in between tourist activities. The place inside is quite small, with around 10-12 places - they have many orders “to go”. However, it has an interesting clean interior design (photos attached).
Overall, I highly recommend this place! If you’re a pizza lover you need to try it!

As an italian (and passionate about good pizza, unsurprisingly) I can say that it's one of the best ones I've ever eaten in my life. It's not napoletana or romana, it's between the two. Ingredients used are crazy good and the proposition is limited but that's perfectly enough.
Also service is perfect and the place really nice.

To be honest we were a little disappointed. The atmosphere is excellent. tables in a busy fun street. The pizza selection on the menu looks interesting. 6 not 4 cheese pizza as one example. The pizza when it came had a great looking crust but the base was very moist, sloppy almost. One small thing warmish Coke with one ice cube. I know we use more ice down under and more was bought when I asked but just a small detail. Apperol was strong.

Nice location, excellent pizza (bread crust was so good crispy and tender).
Very delicious eggplant parmigiana.
Negroni, really good and well balanced mix (resisted to reorder one more)
Once our order placed, the pizza and eggplant parmigiana were served super fast : wow!
It was busy, it appears they were short staffed that night, they did their best to accommodate the many customers.
Despite that, it was worth waiting to order the dessert, the tiramisu tasted great.
Will return again, without a doubt.

Great staff, good music, cool outside patio space. The pizza 🔥 we order The Brooklyn- devoured it and had to place an order for another. Since we enjoyed the spice we went with the Tripletta little more spice then add the spicy oil. 🔥🔥🔥so perfect with a glass of Chianti! We have been traveling for 3 months now. (Glasgow, London, Paris, now Bordeaux) this is the best pizza to date! *love the TP roll holder - brilliant!

My daughter said “this place needs 10 stars” my son ate more than he has eaten all week. My brow is streaming from the incredible homemade chilli oil that gushed all over my Napoli pizza and the margarita has been quashed by delicious local wine.
Couldn’t be happier. Absolutely wonderful location, delicious food (for all ages). Can we come back please?!
Oh and the waiters are delightful!

In France I never had a proper pizza. But Tripletta smashed it. And the carprese was delicious too. This combined with the beautiful square in front of Saint Michèlle is perfect!

Tripletta located at Saint Michaels Square, Bordeaux.
It is an Italian style location restaurant with a minimal menu. You can find it online. We had the lasagna and the pizza. Margarita; it was cool.
Very tasty and as you see, they have an oven in the back similar to Italy, where they cook up that pizza for you nice and fresh.
The price is like medium cheap. You gotta have a little bit of money in your pocket to be able to afford everything you want to eat.
After all Saint Michael Square is a little bit of a tourist area so you know we gotta pay the price.
This is a place worth coming to see the visit if you watch people walk by and enjoy themselves like you as you enjoy your meal this location
Tips for Choosing the Best Pizza in Bordeaux
Finding the perfect pizza in Bordeaux is rarely an accident; it usually requires a bit of local knowledge and timing. The city operates on a distinct dining schedule that differs significantly from the typical Italian or American rhythm. To ensure you get the best possible experience, understanding a few local customs and culinary indicators can make all the difference between a standard meal and an unforgettable one.
Book ahead for prime dinner hours. Bordeaux locals tend to eat dinner later than tourists, usually starting around 8:30 PM or 9:00 PM. If you want a table at a popular pizzeria without a long wait, aim for an early seating at 7:00 PM or make a reservation, especially on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.
Look for "Pâte à fermentation longue." The best pizzerias in Bordeaux proudly advertise their dough’s long fermentation process, usually lasting between 24 and 72 hours. This technique breaks down the gluten and starches, making the crust easier to digest and significantly more flavorful. If you see this on a menu or chalkboard, you are likely in good hands.
Embrace the local cheese variations. While buffalo mozzarella is a staple, many top Bordeaux pizzerias incorporate local cheeses like Ossau-Iraty (a sheep’s milk cheese from the Pyrenees) or creamy local goat cheese. These ingredients pair beautifully with the wood-fired crust and offer a distinctly Southwestern French character.
Check the oven before you order. A quick glance at the kitchen is often the fastest way to judge quality. Look for a domed wood-fired oven or a high-temperature electric deck oven capable of reaching 400°C (750°F) or more. Slow-baked pizzas in standard convection ovens rarely achieve the charred, airy texture that defines great pizza.
Don’t skip the house specials. While a classic Margherita is the ultimate test of a pizzaiolo’s skill, the "specials" board in Bordeaux often features seasonal treasures. Look for pizzas topped with fresh porcini mushrooms in autumn, asparagus in spring, or truffle shavings in winter to experience the city’s commitment to market-driven cuisine.
The pizza scene in Bordeaux is a vibrant reflection of the city itself: rooted in tradition yet unafraid of innovation. Whether you are ending a day of wine tasting or starting a night out in the old town, these pizzerias provide a comforting, satisfying anchor. The combination of high-quality French flour, Italian technique, and Aquitaine ingredients creates a dining experience that stands shoulder to shoulder with the city’s more formal restaurants.
As you explore the streets of Bordeaux, let your appetite guide you beyond the tourist menus and into the warm, flour-dusted corners of the city’s best kitchens. A perfect pizza here is not just a quick meal; it is a testament to the art of simple ingredients executed flawlessly. Bon appétit.
