Finding a reliable pharmacy while travelling or settling into a new area is about more than just picking up a prescription. It is about knowing where to go for trusted health advice, emergency contraception, or child-specific medication when you need it most. In a unique destination like Ibiza, where the pace shifts between tranquil winters and vibrant summers, having local knowledge is invaluable. For residents and visitors in the quiet village of San Antonio, understanding the local pharmaceutical landscape ensures that a minor ailment doesn’t disrupt a holiday or daily life.
San Antonio, located on the western coast of Ibiza, is known for its beautiful sunsets and bustling marina, but it is also a fully functioning town with a strong local community. The pharmacies here are well-equipped to handle the needs of both the international tourist crowd and the permanent Spanish residents. You will find that pharmacists in Spain are highly trained healthcare professionals who can often diagnose minor conditions and dispense medication that might require a doctor’s visit in other countries.
One of the first things to understand about Spanish pharmacies is the "Farmacia de Guardia" system. Because pharmacies operate on a rotating schedule for nights, Sundays, and public holidays, there is always a duty pharmacy open somewhere in the vicinity. The local pharmacies in San Antonio post their schedules on their doors, and local newspapers or the town hall website usually list which branch is on call. This system ensures that you are never left without access to essential medicine, regardless of the hour.
When visiting a pharmacy in San Antonio, language barriers are rarely an issue. Due to the high volume of international visitors, most pharmacists and staff speak proficient English, as well as often German, Italian, or French. They are accustomed to helping tourists with sunburn, insect bites, travel sickness, and dehydration. You can simply walk in, describe your symptoms, and they will recommend the most appropriate over-the-counter treatment or advise you if a doctor’s visit is necessary.
It is also helpful to know that the inventory in Ibiza pharmacies can sometimes differ slightly from what you might find in Northern Europe or the US. While most major brands and generic equivalents are available, specific niche supplements or heavily regulated medications might require a local equivalent. If you are on long-term medication, it is highly recommended to bring a copy of your prescription or a letter from your doctor to ensure you can be dispensed the correct substitute if needed.
Beyond medication, these establishments serve as hubs for wellness products, high-end cosmetics, baby care, and orthopedics. Many tourists rely on them for specialized after-sun care, high-factor sunscreen for the Mediterranean climate, and even rental services for mobility aids like crutches or wheelchairs. The level of service is personalized, often bridging the gap between a retail store and a primary care consultation.
Whether you are staying near the sunset strip, the marina, or the quieter residential outskirts, access to a trusted pharmacy is likely just a short walk or drive away. Below is a curated list of establishments in the area to help you find the one most convenient for your location and needs.

Excellent pharmacy. Needed to hire a wheelchair for my partner who had hurt her leg badly. Couldn't have been more friendly, professional and helpful. My Spanish is very poor but they managed to decipher what I was after (that's my fault, not theirs - I'm in their country), managed to dispense the prescription given by A&E very quickly and all in all a very positive experience and all done with lots of smiles. Thank you!.

It’s more important for the staff to tell the customers to wear a mask than to answer the questions about what they want to buy! This pharmacy lives still in 2020, will not visit again although I live here!

Walked for 25 minutes there at 22.30 to find them closed when got there advertised open until mid night liars

They prefer not serving you because you dont Wear a facemask (didnt know) than giving you a médecine. Sooo stupid!

Driving all the way to San Antonio to arrive at this pharmacy to discover that it’s closed at 14:16.
Update your hours please. It’s a pharmacy and not a coffee shop. It’s an essential store.
Parking is terrible here and also traffic so if you can go somewhere else, it’s best advised.
Especially when their hours are not updated.

Needed a Motilium pill for stomach, they did not help even though it was the only pharmacy opened in town(night emergency). Procedures should be applied with a little brain, otherwise we can cancel people and go for robots.
Later edit_ reply to the owner: No, I was not offered any alternative solution and it was 4 a.m. in the morning. And Motilium is not a drug that you can use recreationally, and I asked only for 1 pill to treat the emergency.

Shahad Al-Abbasi★☆☆☆☆
I went to buy eye drops and was told the price was 20 euros. However, when I paid with my watch, it was 28.67 euros. My husband confirmed she said 20 euros, but I became suspicious because it took her about three minutes with many clicks to get the price. So, I went to two other pharmacies on the same street, and both had eye drops for 19.99 euros. I returned to the first pharmacy and asked the same lady to return the sealed eye drops, but she refused. I explained that it wasn’t a refrigerated medicine and that pharmacies in the EU, including Germany where I live, accept returns. She still refused. I told her the other pharmacies were about 30% cheaper, but she insisted that was their price and refused to refund me. I'm really disappointed with this pharmacy 👎. People in the medical field should be trustworthy.

Horrible. I bought some over-the-counter medication, but they gave me the wrong dose.
I realized it and went back after about three minutes.
They told me they couldn't exchange it, that by law products aren't refundable. I hadn't even opened the box...
With so many pharmacies in Ibiza, especially on that street, I don't recommend this place. I would never go back and I would tell everyone not to go there!
Bad service, zero empathy.

A pharmacy that inspires trust and, above all, humanity.
There are places you go into looking for a product and leave thinking you've found something much more valuable: people who genuinely care about you. This pharmacy is undoubtedly one of those places.
From the very first moment, the service is friendly, polite, kind, and profoundly professional. But what I want to highlight most is that human quality that can't be faked and is evident in every detail: the patience in listening, the attention with which they explain things, and the genuine willingness to help you when you need it.
In moments when one might feel more vulnerable or worried, finding someone who serves you with a smile, with respect, and with true empathy is invaluable. And that's precisely what I found here.
I want to give a very special mention to Manuel Bru Bonilla, Lupe, and their entire team, because behind a good pharmacy there is much more than knowledge and professionalism: there is dedication, responsibility, and a vocation for service. And when those qualities are accompanied by such a human touch, it makes a huge difference.
It's so refreshing to find professionals who aren't in a rush to serve you, who listen, who offer guidance, and who make you leave feeling truly cared for. These are small gestures that may be part of the daily routine for those who perform them, but for those who receive them, they can mean so much.
The pharmacy also exudes seriousness, order, trustworthiness, and professionalism, while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable from the very first moment.
Thank you for your dedicated service, for treating people with such kindness, and for maintaining such a beautiful balance between professionalism and humanity. That's what transforms good service into an experience that truly deserves recognition.
I wish there were more establishments that understood that caring for a person isn't just about offering a product, but also about listening to them, guiding them, and treating them with kindness and respect.
A professional, friendly, and human pharmacy—the kind you can recommend with complete confidence and that you'll be happy to return to.
My sincerest congratulations and, above all, thank you. ❤️

The best pharmacy in Ibiza!
What a joy to find pharmacists who listen, advise, and always have a smile behind the counter.
They're so friendly that you forget you're even there for medication.
Their friendliness and service are the best part—they let you know when your medication has arrived and are so responsible with it.
I moved and now I live further away, but I don't hesitate to get in my car and go just to know they'll be there to help me. ❤️
Soraya López López★★★★★
My favorite pharmacy in Ibiza!
Manuel and his wife are lovely, two very attentive, friendly, and above all, professional people.
I have a treatment that they have to order from Mallorca, and it arrives very quickly (the pharmacy that's fastest at bringing things from other islands). They always check on me and let me know when the treatment has arrived. Highlighting their professionalism and empathy, I highly recommend this pharmacy.
Despite any ailments, you're guaranteed to leave with a smile! 😊
Vicente Collado★★★★★
The pharmacist and pharmacy assistant provided incredible service. Their system wasn't working at the time, but they still took wonderful care of me. They also attended to an elderly person in front of me with great kindness and care. I will definitely return if I come back to Ibiza; it's a real pleasure.
Cristina Ortega★☆☆☆☆
I went to the pharmacy with a prescription from another region, accompanied by the healthcare professional who prescribed the antibiotic. They refused to dispense the medication because their computer wasn't working, even though I had my card and prescription papers in hand, because the prescriptions were from another region.
This is a serious offense, especially considering it's the only pharmacy on duty in the city. The pharmacist and assistant provided poor service, soliciting opinions from other customers and speaking to us—both the customer and the patient—in a condescending and pedantic tone.
It's a tremendous disgrace and a grave breach of duty by healthcare professionals, both for the situation they created and how they handled it.
Practical Tips for Using Pharmacies in San Antonio
Navigating a foreign healthcare system, even for minor needs, can feel daunting. However, Spanish pharmacies are designed to be accessible and efficient. By understanding a few local customs and practical realities, you can save time, money, and stress when seeking medical supplies or advice in San Antonio.
Know the Green Cross Sign
Spanish pharmacies are universally marked by a luminous green cross, often animated or flashing. Unlike in some countries where a pharmacy might be hidden inside a larger supermarket, in San Antonio they are standalone storefronts. Keep an eye out for this symbol, especially when walking along the main roads like Avinguda de Sant Antoni or Carrer de Barcelona, as it is the universal indicator of a licensed chemist.
Ask for the Generic (Genérico)
Medication prices in Spain are heavily regulated and generally much lower than in the United States, but you can still save money by asking for generic brands. Pharmacists are legally required to dispense the cheapest available generic unless the doctor specifically prescribes a brand name. Don’t hesitate to ask, "¿Tiene un genérico?" (Do you have a generic?). The active ingredients are identical and regulated by the Spanish Ministry of Health.
Respect the Siesta and Sunday Closures
While San Antonio is a tourist hub, it still operates on Spanish time. Most pharmacies close for a few hours in the afternoon, typically from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and are closed entirely on Sundays. If you need medication during these hours, do not waste time walking to a closed door. Instead, look for the sign on the door of any pharmacy which will list the nearest "Farmacia de Guardia" (duty pharmacy) and its address.
Bring Your EHIC or Insurance Details
If you are a European citizen, bring your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or the new GHIC if from the UK. While you usually pay for medication upfront, having this card can sometimes facilitate processes if a prescription is involved, and it is essential if the pharmacist refers you to the local medical center (Centro de Salud). For non-EU visitors, keep your travel insurance details handy; while you pay for meds out of pocket, you will need the receipt for your claim.
Utilize Pharmacists for Minor Emergencies
In Spain, the pharmacist is often the first point of contact for minor health issues. For things like mild sunstroke, jellyfish stings, ear infections from swimming, or upset stomachs, you do not necessarily need to go to a hospital or private clinic. The pharmacist can assess your symptoms and provide prescription-strength medication over the counter in many cases. This can save you a significant amount of money compared to a private doctor’s visit for tourists.
The presence of well-stocked and professionally staffed pharmacies is a crucial part of the infrastructure that makes San Antonio a safe destination for everyone. While the town is famous for its nightlife and beaches, the reality is that life happens—people get headaches, children get fevers, and accidents occur. Knowing that expert advice is available just around the corner provides peace of mind.
As you enjoy your time on the White Isle, whether for a long weekend or a permanent relocation, keep this information in your back pocket. The pharmacists in San Antonio are not just vendors; they are a vital part of the community’s healthcare system, ready to assist you with discretion, expertise, and a smile.
