Finding a reliable pharmacy in the heart of Logroño is usually a straightforward task, but knowing exactly where to go when you are in a hurry or visiting from out of town can save you valuable time. Whether you are dealing with a sudden headache, need a specific medication, or are looking for specialized dermocosmetics, the city centre offers a dense network of professional services. The capital of La Rioja is compact and highly walkable, making it easy to access healthcare essentials on foot.
The historic centre, particularly around the famous Calle Portales and the bustling Calle San Juan, is home to some of the most established pharmacies in the region. These establishments are staffed by licensed professionals who are accustomed to serving both locals and the many pilgrims passing through on the Camino de Santiago. They offer advice not just on medication, but also on managing blisters, allergies, and the general fatigue associated with travel.
One of the key advantages of using a pharmacy in Logroño’s urban core is the extended operating hours. While most businesses close for the afternoon siesta, you will find that many central pharmacies operate on a continuous schedule or rotate shifts to ensure coverage. This system, known locally as farmacia de guardia, guarantees that residents and visitors always have access to urgent medication, even during late nights and public holidays.
Language barriers are rarely an issue in these central locations. Due to the high volume of international tourism related to the wine region and the Camino, pharmacists in the centre are often able to communicate in English or French. They are trained to provide clear instructions on dosage and usage, ensuring you understand exactly how to take your medicine safely, regardless of your native language.
Beyond prescription medications, the pharmacies in the centre of Logroño function as wellness hubs. You will find a wide selection of baby care products, orthopedics, homeopathic remedies, and high-end cosmetic brands. If you are looking for a specific Spanish brand of skincare or a local natural remedy, the staff can usually guide you to the product that best fits your needs without requiring a doctor’s visit.
The aesthetic of these pharmacies often blends modern retail with traditional Spanish charm. Many are located on the ground floors of historic buildings, maintaining beautiful facades while offering state-of-the-art medical services inside. This combination makes the experience of picking up essentials feel less clinical and more integrated into the daily rhythm of the city.
Below, you will find a curated list of the most accessible and reputable pharmacies located directly within the city centre. This guide is designed to help you locate the nearest point of care quickly, whether you are staying near the cathedral, shopping on Gran Vía, or enjoying the tapas district on Laurel Street.

Rogger Lecaro★★★☆☆
The experience was okay, but I felt somewhat uncomfortable with the service.
Upon entering, I was directed to another counter. It wasn't so much what they said, but their tone, which conveyed a certain annoyance.
At the second counter, the service was quite cold. There was barely any greeting or interaction, and some rather awkward silences ensued. While I waited, I noticed that other customers were treated more naturally and warmly, which accentuated this feeling of difference.
I can't say for sure, but I did perceive a difference in the way they treated me in small details (tone, manner of interacting). Being Latino, I couldn't help but notice a certain contrast compared to other customers.
I also got the impression that they were aiming for quick service. I couldn't say if it was efficiency or simply a desire to get rid of me quickly, but based on the details mentioned above, that was the impression I got.
Upon leaving, I noticed another detail: someone else was offered help in a friendly manner, while in my case, the closing was much more abrupt. They are small gestures, but they make a difference to the experience.
It's probably unintentional and might just be a personal perception, but I believe that maintaining consistency in how we treat all our clients is key.
In any case, I would only consider it as a last resort when there are no other options.

The online order delivery service is appalling. They should consider changing delivery companies, even if it costs a bit more, to ensure the package arrives at its destination and not just wherever the driver feels like leaving it.

I was just served by a middle-aged woman with glasses, and the service couldn't have been worse. The way she spoke to me was humiliating (as if I wasn't even there). To make matters worse, they were talking about the previous customer, and even though he was elderly, they were badmouthing him. People who don't know how to work with the public. You have to be empathetic and humane. I won't be back. I only asked her for a refund regarding a customer discount.

The worst service I've ever received in a truly unpleasant place. I asked for a tissue because my eyes were irritated, and I even bought some eye drops because they were itchy and my makeup was running. It was just a small favor. There were four people there, and not one of them could do such a simple thing. The service was awful; they didn't even speak to me.
BORJA★★★☆☆
This is just a suggestion. I'm someone who pays close attention to the signs and offers on pharmacy displays, like those on TVs and pharmacy crosses, to see what they have and what they do. Months ago, I reported that the pharmacy cross was damaged.
I saw that it was replaced, but now, almost a month later, two more crosses have broken at the same establishment.
I'm mentioning this mainly to help with improvements and to ensure that new customers who come from out of town and don't know this place, and who need a product or something else, know whether or not it's open. Thank you.
Maria Pilar Vizuete Flores★☆☆☆☆
I was treated terribly. My husband and I went in; I wasn't feeling well at all—dizzy and with a headache. My husband suggested it might be low blood pressure. The woman looked at us and pointed to a machine, telling us to do it ourselves. It was our first time, and we didn't even know how it worked, so she didn't even come to help us. The ticket came out, and my husband asked if my blood pressure was low. She glanced at it and said I wasn't allowed inside. It's a shame I was feeling so unwell to ask her name; she's dark-haired with wavy hair, but not one of them showed any concern. What a pharmacy with so little empathy.
Jessica Stephania Valbuena★☆☆☆☆
This pharmacy is a nightmare. There's no way to get an allergy shot for my son; every time I go, they ask for something new. On top of that, they treat you with such arrogance, as if it's your obligation to know how the medication system works. The person who's usually on duty—I heard them call her "Carmencita"—laughs at me, doesn't explain things, and tells me that the waiting periods are what she says, regardless of what the card says, or what the allergist says, or even what the La Rioja health authority says. It's what she says, period. The best part is the comment, "Why do you want children? It's so much better without them," which is completely none of her business. It's the pharmacy right downstairs from my house, but it's awful.
sandra nalda★☆☆☆☆
I am a regular customer of this pharmacy and I have never experienced such an unpleasant situation.
The owner, José Antonio, treated me with a complete lack of courtesy and empathy. He showed absolutely no respect or consideration for a customer.
It is shameful that someone with such a lack of professionalism is in charge of a business that serves the public.
After this experience, I am absolutely certain that I will not return and will not recommend it to anyone.

If you're looking for a convenient, practical pharmacy with great service, this is the place for you.
💡 Super long hours: 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM every day ⏰, perfect if you need medication early in the morning or late at night. You'll never run out of your essentials.
🛍️ Incredible variety of products 🧴💉, from well-known brands to more natural options 🌿🍀. You'll always find what you're looking for, even if you're looking for healthier alternatives.
💳 Card payment machine outside 💳👌, ideal if you're in a hurry or don't have cash. Very convenient and fast!
😊 Friendly service 😄, the staff is always willing to help and patiently answer your questions. They make you feel welcome from the moment you walk in.
⚠️ One thing to note: sometimes they try to sell you the brands that are most profitable for them 💰💸, so it's a good idea to ask about alternatives and compare prices.
In short, Farmacia Mercedes is highly recommended 👍✨ if you value convenience, variety, and quality service. Ideal for those looking for speed 🚀, a wide range of products 🧴🩹, and flexible hours 🕘. A modern, convenient, and very practical pharmacy! 🌟💖
El Lucroniense★★★★☆
The largest pharmacy in the neighborhood, well-stocked with all kinds of products. The service is a mixed bag; some staff are delightful and worth returning to, as they always serve you kindly and with the best intentions, while others are very curt (that's what happens with such long opening hours and it being a large pharmacy). This is the only reason I'm deducting a star; if everyone's service were like that of the blonde girl with short hair, they'd have six stars. They have a loyalty program for purchases of non-prescription products. For baby products, they only carry MAM and Suavinex. When buying non-prescription medication, insist that you want the generic, because some employees do tend to favor the brand name.
Luis Alvarez Dominguez★☆☆☆☆
I am documenting my experience because I believe what happened is serious and deserves to be reported.
Yesterday, I went to this pharmacy with a prescription for an antibiotic. They dispensed a specific medication, telling me it wasn't covered by Social Security and that if I wanted it covered, I had to go back to the doctor so they could specifically add that medication with its national insurance number. In other words, they made me seek medical attention again, waste time, and then return to the pharmacy so they could supposedly refund the difference.
I completed all of these steps that same afternoon. When I returned to the pharmacy, the clerk was surprised that I was back and told me there had been a "mistake" and that they couldn't give me a refund. When I asked them to collect the medication (sealed and unused), they initially refused. Only after insisting for quite some time and creating an uncomfortable situation did they finally agree to refund the money, and even then, they treated me very inappropriately.
To my further surprise, I went to another pharmacy with the same prescription and, without any problem whatsoever, they dispensed the exact same medication with the Social Security discount immediately. No extra paperwork, no excuses, and no wasting of my time.
What happened at this pharmacy demonstrates, at the very least, a complete lack of professionalism, a failure to provide accurate information to the patient, and a lack of respect for their time and medical situation. We're talking about medication, not just any product. It's difficult to understand how one establishment can claim something is impossible while another can handle it in seconds.
Frankly, after what I experienced, it's hard to believe that it's all simply a "mistake." The feeling is very worrying and makes one wonder if certain instructions are given with ulterior motives, taking advantage of patients' difficulty in getting medical appointments or filing complaints. Let everyone draw their own conclusions.
Carlos Rodriguez Hurtado★☆☆☆☆
I had a very bad experience with this pharmacy. The attitude towards customers leaves much to be desired, with rude faces and gestures; a very unpleasant situation. Without a doubt, I will never return to this pharmacy.
Andrew D.★☆☆☆☆
Expensive. A €3.50 increase on a total of €11.50 compared to other local pharmacies. You have to ask for the receipt even though they're supposed to give it to you if you ask for it. Anyway, I happened to be passing through the neighborhood and I certainly won't be going back. I feel sorry for anyone who has to go there because it's nearby.

I went in to buy some eye drops, nothing more. I described the product to the young woman since I couldn't remember the brand, and she pulled out one that cost three times as much but contained 30% less product. I told her I didn't recall it costing that much, not even half, and she made me believe I was mistaken. Instead of showing me different options, she just charged me. I got home, looked it up online, and ended up paying over €12 instead of €3.95. I'll never understand the urge to rip people off.
JUDIT GARCÍA ORTEGA★☆☆☆☆
I'd always bought everything I needed for my baby at this pharmacy, including formula. The other day, when I opened the last can I bought, I noticed it had a clumpy, compact texture, almost like it was damp. My son, ever since I started giving it to him, has been acting strangely and having stomach problems, so naturally, I took it back to the pharmacy so they would know that that batch of formula wasn't good. They told me that the formula was perfectly fine. Not satisfied, I went to another pharmacy and bought another can. We opened it, compared them, and there was indeed a noticeable difference between the two, and it was even 7 euros cheaper! I think it's outrageous how they're playing with our money and the prices. So, I finally went back to the pharmacy where they sold me the bad formula so they could see the difference, and even then, they continued to deny the obvious. As a loyal customer, they've lost all my trust, and therefore I won't be going back to that pharmacy. We're playing with infant nutrition; it's not a game.
Marian Ruiz★☆☆☆☆
I went to order two bottles of sodium bicarbonate. The girl charged me a €10 deposit and said they would call me. I had to call them myself, and they told me the order had arrived because they were prescription medications. I went down to the village, and to my surprise, they had only brought me one bottle. The prescription for the other one had expired, so I couldn't order it again yesterday because they would charge me the full price, which is almost €30. Now I have to go to the nephrologist to get it refilled. This pharmacy's management was terrible. What they should have done wasn't just agree with me, which they did, but rather bring it to me and charge me as if I had the prescription. I will certainly never go back.
Lourdes Rodriguez★☆☆☆☆
I've been there several times and received good service until today. However, I encountered a pharmacist who was incredibly arrogant and didn't know how to treat her customers. She was particularly rude, especially considering her age. I'm writing this because it seems that lately, every course and program needs a subject on humility, not arrogance. You don't go to these establishments to be praised, but to be treated well and politely.

I have it right next to my house and honestly... it's awful. The woman who works nights is rude and very unprofessional. I'd rather drive to the other side of town than buy anything here again. Hello! My experience couldn't have been worse. During a phone call, he showed no empathy whatsoever. He acted like a madman, and if he didn't understand the question, he told me to get better advice. He yelled at me and, without answering or even saying goodbye politely, hung up—I doubt the phone still works after hitting it. I wouldn't call him again... I wouldn't even set foot in his room. The treatment I received at this establishment from the long-haired blonde employee was shameful... her level of empathy and humanity was abysmal.
I have asthma and have NEVER been asked for a prescription to buy Ventolin. This young woman refused to sell me a Ventolin, despite me having the beginnings of an asthma attack and being quite distressed, simply because she didn't feel like it, claiming it was only available with a prescription. Upon leaving, I went to another pharmacy and they sold it to me without any problem. I told them what had happened at this pharmacy, and they said that this young woman hadn't sold it to me because she didn't want to, because a prescription isn't essential, especially when an asthmatic arrives in the state I was in. I wouldn't recommend this pharmacy even if it were the last one left in the world.

Well stocked chemist pharmacy for Camino pilgrims, everything you could need, from Magnesium tablets, foot braces, pain relief, etc. friendly staff who make the effort to speak English where they can to help you. Notice opening hours, as Sundays everything is shut in town.

Cristina, the driving force behind it all, and Pilar, her daughter, make a fantastic team at this pharmacy where you'll find everything you need for your health and well-being.

Apparently, it's common practice at this pharmacy to treat customers badly… from what I can see, I'm not the only one. Today I went to get a product, and when they didn't have it and I was about to leave, a pharmacist in her sixties told me, "Well, you can just get better with water," along with other insults. I didn't have the time or the inclination, but I assure you I would have filed a complaint. What kind of bitter person ironically wishes that a girl who could be her daughter wouldn't get better?
I think this person has a problem and should be kept away from customer service. And if she's the owner, I'm sorry you have to work in something you hate so much.
AVOID places like this! Buy from any other pharmacy nearby (in fact, there's one on the same street). I, for one, won't give a single euro to people who treat their customers like this.

I've lived in the area for a few months now and have always gone there (when I rarely visit the pharmacy). Today I was shocked by the rude, unpleasant, and completely inappropriate treatment I received from one of the pharmacists. They have everything going for them, and it seems they don't care when things go wrong. Good luck, I won't be back!
Tips for Using Pharmacies in Logroño City Centre
Navigating the Spanish pharmacy system is easy once you understand a few local customs and logistical details. While the service is highly professional, the way you access medication might differ slightly from what you are used to in your home country. Keeping the following points in mind will ensure your visit is efficient and stress-free.
Look for the Green Cross
Every pharmacy in Spain is marked by a glowing green cross, usually accompanied by the word "Farmacia." When the cross is illuminated, the pharmacy is open for business. If you are walking down a main street like Avenida de la Paz or Calle Muro del Carmen, you can spot these signs from a distance, making it easy to navigate without needing a map.
Check the Duty Pharmacy Schedule
If you need medicine after 10:00 PM or on a Sunday, do not expect all doors to be open. Instead, look for a sign posted on the door of any closed pharmacy. This sign lists the Farmacia de Guardia—the designated on-duty pharmacy for that district. You can also ask a local or check online municipal resources to find the nearest 24-hour service.
Bring Your Health Card or Prescription
If you are an EU citizen with a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), bring it along, as it may affect pricing for certain prescribed items. For standard over-the-counter drugs like ibuprofen or paracetamol, you do not need a prescription, but you will need to ask the pharmacist directly, as these items are kept behind the counter rather than on open shelves.
Ask for Generic Brands
Spanish pharmacies frequently offer genéricos (generic medications) which are significantly cheaper than brand-name drugs but contain the exact same active ingredients. If you are paying out of pocket, ask the pharmacist if a generic version is available. They are legally required to offer you the most affordable option when dispensing a prescription.
Prepare for the Siesta Gap
While many central pharmacies in Logroño have adapted to tourism and stay open continuously, some smaller ones may still close between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. If you have a specific pharmacy you want to visit, plan your trip for the morning or early evening to avoid the midday closure window.
Knowing where to go for medical essentials allows you to relax and enjoy everything Logroño has to offer, from the wine cellars to the historic bridges. The pharmacies in this area are more than just dispensaries; they are pillars of the community that offer a safety net for travelers and residents alike. By utilizing the local expertise available behind these counters, you can address minor health hiccups immediately and get back to exploring the city with peace of mind.
