Finding a comfortable place to stay in Paris does not have to drain your travel budget before you even buy a croissant. While the area surrounding the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral sits in the historic heart of the city, it is surprisingly accessible for savvy travelers. The key is knowing which neighborhoods offer the perfect blend of affordability and proximity to the Seine.
The landscape of Parisian hospitality has evolved, with many traditional hotels renovating to offer modern comforts at mid-range prices. Budget-friendly does not mean sacrificing cleanliness, safety, or charm in this part of the capital. It simply means you spend less on your room and more on experiences.
The 4th and 5th arrondissements, as well as the edges of the Latin Quarter, are prime hunting grounds for value. Here, you can often walk to the cathedral in under fifteen minutes. Staying slightly further into the 5th or towards the Marais often unlocks better nightly rates.
Public transport links in this area are excellent, making even a hotel a few Metro stops away a smart choice. The RER B and C lines and several Metro stations connect you to the cathedral within minutes. This connectivity widens your radius for finding cheaper beds without losing convenience.
When evaluating "budget" in Paris, context matters. A standard room in this central zone often costs less than luxury properties but more than hostels on the outskirts. We have focused on properties that deliver exceptional value for their location, typically featuring private bathrooms and reliable Wi-Fi.
Many of these hotels are housed in classic Haussmann buildings or historic structures, offering a uniquely Parisian atmosphere. Expect smaller elevators and cozy lobbies, which are part of the authentic charm. The trade-off is usually a prime location that allows you to walk home after an evening river cruise.
Below is a curated selection of reliable, well-reviewed, and reasonably priced hotels near Notre-Dame. These options balance cost, comfort, and the undeniable magic of waking up in the center of Paris.

We had a great stay at Hôtel Quartier Latin. The hotel was clean and well maintained which made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. The location is excellent and very central making it easy to explore Paris.
Getting around was simple because both Uber and public transportation were easily accessible. We were able to reach all the major attractions quickly and without any problems.
The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. They were always happy to answer questions and made us feel well looked after.
Overall we would definitely recommend Hôtel Quartier Latin to anyone looking for a clean hotel with a fantastic location and excellent service.

We stayed one night at Hotel Quartier Latin in Paris and had a very pleasant experience. The hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and functional, with everything we needed for a short stay.
However, the real Star of the show was Paul. His service elevated our stay from good to truly memorable. From the moment we arrived, he was warm, charismatic, and genuinely interested in helping us make the most of our time in Paris.
What impressed us most was how personalised his advice was. Rather than giving generic tourist recommendations, he took the time to understand our music tastes and suggested places to visit for the Fête de la Musique that matched our preferences perfectly. He also provided detailed guidance on travel routes, timings, and how to navigate the city efficiently, which made our plans much easier.
Paul's enthusiasm, local knowledge, and exceptional hospitality made us feel genuinely welcomed. Staff like him are rare and can make all the difference to a guest's experience. Thank you, Paul, for making our visit so special. We would happily stay here again.

This hotel had friendly staff, the rooms were clean and had everything we needed, and the location was good (close to notre dame and metro). The only complaint was I wish they provided a few more towels. Would recommend and go back!

Extremely Disappointing — Would Not Recommend
Horrible experience. The room we were given was dirty, neglected, and nothing like the photos online. The front desk employee was unpleasant and at times outright rude.
We booked this hotel based on many positive reviews, but our room was filthy, with multiple holes in the walls, bathroom tiles that were broken and falling off, and several other general maintenance issues. The issue was not the age of the building or the size of the room — we fully understand what to expect in Europe. The problem was the lack of basic cleanliness and upkeep.
We raised our concerns with the front desk. She told us to wait in the room while she looked into options. After about half an hour, she called to say that although other rooms were available, they would not be offering us a different one as they are all the same. She dismissed our concerns by saying “it’s Europe,” which had nothing to do with the issues we reported.
Even though we had paid for multiple nights, we left immediately and booked another hotel at our own expense. It was the only reasonable option given the condition of the room.
The location is good, but that doesn’t make up for the inability to sleep comfortably or stay in a clean, maintained space. Based on our experience, I would not recommend booking this hotel.

We only stayed one night to prepare for our flight back to NY. Hotel was okay for a shorter stay. No dresser in room and room was a bit small. Front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful.

If you are from the US and know the travelodge or motel6 brand, this hotel is similar. The rooms are not sanitary. We got two rooms, one on Floor 6 and one on Floor7. There were ants in the room on Floor7. We told the front desk about it and they said they would clean it up and there were ants still everyday. So we couldn’t bring any food or drinks up to our room in case we’d get infested. On Floor6, the carpet hadn’t been vacuumed since the last person as there were toe nail clippings all over the carpet. There were mold issues in the rooms. My husband got hives from sleeping on the bed, unsure if that’s from bed bugs but possibly. Why stay here? If you are on a budget, need to get multiple rooms (we had 3) and staying for many days, then this makes sense. There was no hot water for showers the entire time. So hopefully you go in a heatwave. Some decent things- it’s safe, friendly staff, nice to get the breakfast included, close to many restaurants and sites, air conditioning was great, view of Eiffel Tower from the room. I recommend getting the deluxe suite, it was a decent size.

Don't let the 2 stars freighten you. This hotel is soo good. After a very inconvenient experience at the Ibis budget hotel, me and my friend had to find an immediate solution and book a new hotel. The only one within our price range and good accessibility was this one and let me tell you, we should have booked it first. We had to book it the same day of arrival so you can guess how stressful it all was, but as soon as we arrived in this hotel we were greeted by the amazing and nice guy at the reception. We loved every single detail especially since it brought us back in time with the beautiful elevator. The room(bathroom as well) and halls are small, but it's Paris so it's part of the experience. Everything was clean and new, the view was amazing, there was hot water, good Wi-Fi and the best part was the amazing location. Notre Dame is 10 minutes away on foot, there are many local restaurants and cafés nearby, markets open late in the night and many cute bookstores. If you want the best stay in Paris, then this is for you. When I come back in Paris again, this will be my choice 100%.😊

Affordable hotel in a fantastic location with everything you might need within walking distance on a safe and quiet street. The breakfast was surprisingly good with plenty of options and all the staff we encountered were very friendly and could communicate in English. Clean room, hot water and working AC. The room even had a French balcony with views of the Eiffel Tower in the distance which was a very nice surprise. Only complaint is that the room was very small, especially the bed which barely fit two people. Would definitely recommend this hotel if you’re looking for an affordable option in the 6th!

I recently stayed at this hotel for 4 nights, I loved the vintage vibe and what is great about it, is the location, you have everything near, and if not, you’re very close to the metro lines that take you directly to the wished places. Although it was a nice stay, in the last day I noticed a good amount of ants on the floor (mind you the floor is fully covered with a carpet), and that was not very nice, thankfully I didn’t notice on the first day otherwise I would go insane. Other then that everything else was nice, just inspect your room right from the start. The staff would clean the room everyday - not sure if they thoroughly cleaned it but we would always find everything nicely folded.

It's exactly what it says it is - A two star hotel. It's in a five star location however. The rooms are tired, clean, but the layout is funky. We had the double room but it requires climbing over my husband to get up from the bed. Forget about watching tv if you don't speak French, and you bump your head into it often. Every staff member we interacted with was fantastic. There is a tiny elevator but we are used to that in Spain so no big deal. We spent five nights, and for what we paid, I expected more, even if it's Paris.

Great location and reasonable price of this place helped me to make a choice. Hotel is located in the Latin quarter, safe place, and is literally within a 10-minute walking distance of Notre dame de Paris and Pantheon. Close to Shakespeare books store, Luxembourg garden. It is surrounded by the restaurants, boutiques and bakeries. Everything is in walking distance, including metro station, 7 and 10. Staff was friendly, except one man at checkout. Breakfast cost extra, but we didn't need it, so many options outside. Room was on the 6th floor with a view towards Notre dame de Paris. Elevator can only fit two people, but worked perfectly. Room was clean, very small, bathroom was very narrow and tiny, but there was a working ac unit, which was a huge plus in the middle of the summer and heat. If I would stay here again, I would. We stayed 2 nights in July and prices were bit higher.
Laura Crites★★★★☆
My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights in June. We were delighted that we had a room on the 6th floor facing Notre-Dame Cathedral. Pros: easy access to the subway, and walking distance to tourist destinations, the air conditioner was good but didn’t get as cold as we would have liked, beds were comfy. Cons: the bathroom was very small (if you are a tall person you may have a hard time using the toilet and shower). When we checked-in we were sleep deprived and jet lagged and would have appreciated if the front desk staff could have been more welcoming and patient. Overall we would stay here again.

Perfect hotel. Close to transport links. Quiet enough to sleep at night. Tea and coffee provided. Lovely lady on front desk. You're able to store your luggage on check out day. Wouldn't hesitate to come back!

Great location. We got the room at the top floor and the views were amazing. You can even see Notre Dame on a clear day. The beds were fine, the bathroom was perfect. The room was cozy. There was a little visitor on our balcony but we didn't mind him.

The location is perfect, easy walk to several favorite locations in Paris and close to the train.
Rooms are small but fine for a few days. The bathroom in our room was tight had to turn sideways to get past the sink and wall to get to the toilet. The rooms have different setups so not all like this.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.

I LOVED staying here. The location is unbeatable, very walkable and safe. Im solo traveling so safety and all women’s dorms are important. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean. Staff was so kind and helpful. Free lockers with codes [no lock needed] are provided for your valuables in a secured room behind reception. It was quiet [tho this varies depending on who is staying there]. The only thing is breakfast is basically just bread and apple sauce, sometimes yogurt lol. But HIGHLY recommend the stay!!!

I had a wonderful stay at MIJE Fourcy in Paris. The location is perfect — right in the center of the city, which made it very easy to explore everything.
We were pleasantly surprised to be given a private room. Everything was very clean and comfortable, and we had our own shower, which made the stay even better.
The breakfast was excellent — simple but fresh and very enjoyable, a perfect start to the day before walking around Paris.
The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, always ready to help with a smile. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed.
Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable stay in the heart of Paris.

Lovely hostel in a great location — the sheets are clean and beds are already made, which is always a nice touch.
A few things worth flagging though: the toilets are separate from the rooms, which I actually like, but there are no sinks in there, which is a bit of a hygiene concern. Not sure why a tap-and-toilet combo unit hasn't been fitted as a simple fix. There's also no soap in the rooms, so if you haven't brought your own, properly washing your hands is a challenge.
On the plus side, breakfast is a lovely bonus — especially given the price point, when so many hostels have dropped it entirely. The one downside is the amount of single-use plastic it generates: individual jam portions, mini yoghurts and the like. Would be great to see that reconsidered.
Gill Silva★★★★★
Great Location. Easy to access using the M1 and M7. Staff at the reception and at the restaurant were very helpful. The only downside were the toilets at the common areas that were smelly and not frequent serviced. Expect a modest breakfast, enough to break your night fasting.
NICOLÁS Stingl★★★☆☆
Excellent location, specially when compared to price. Beautiful building.
Stayed four nights. The bed was comfy but I didn't like the room. The room has a shower + sink which is divided by a sliding door which you cannot lock. I had the first bed which was directly in front of the bedroom door. When someone entered late at night the lights from the hallway hit you directly in your face (I don't really understand why the hall lights are SO bright, they are like those lights in movie sets). But the main thing is that you don't have a place to plug your phone near your bed, only a USB port which didn't work. I had to leave my phone in the sink at night.
There was a small bathroom with two toilets in the hallway, which were ok but there wasn't any hand soap available.
It's nice that they serve breakfast, but the quality could improve (I don't pretend nothing fancy). The coffee didn't taste good, it came out super burnt and you can't adjust how much of it you want, the machine fills your cup up. They offer yogurt, cereals, white bread with butter, and a store bought cake (which was the best option in my opinion). There was a bit odd smell in the cafeteria in the mornings.
The shared space is nice, some couches, places to work. Comfortable. Couple of places to plug your phone, some games and books. I tried connecting to the wifi a couple of times and even though there was good signal, I had no internet connection (both in my room and in the shared space).
Overall, I chose it because it was the cheapest option in a very centric place, but the room things really bothered me.

We’ve stayed there for one night. The best option I was able to find for this money. I would say it’s perfect for short stay, just to sleep and take shower, what else you need in Paris?
Location is great, transport is near. Yes, the street is buzzy, but we were so tired that we didn’t care. It wasn’t hot, so we didn’t even need AC, but if you come during hot summer days that might be a problem for you. Sheets are clean, room is clean. Definitely needs some renovation but it’s not a big deal. Pretty weird was that we needed to leave a key when we went out but I didn’t worry as we didn’t have any valuables with us. Reception is friendly and welcoming. Some nice restaurants and bakeries around.
If I come to Paris again, I’ll definitely stay there.

I had an amazing 4-night stay at Les Bulles de Paris. I was lucky enough to get a room with a beautiful view of the Panthéon, which made the experience even more special.
The location is fantastic—bus stops and metro stations are just a short walk away, making it easy to explore Paris. It's also within walking distance of the Latin Quarter, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and many other attractions. Having Maison bakery nearby was a huge bonus for fresh pastries and coffee every morning.
The hotel was always clean, comfortable, and well maintained.
What truly made this stay exceptional was the front desk team. A special thanks to Hossum, who was incredibly kind, welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable about local restaurants. Every recommendation he gave was excellent—you won't be disappointed if you take his advice. Diane was wonderful as well and helped us with our booking, making everything smooth and stress-free. taher was also friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

I would absolutely stay at Les Bulles de Paris again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable hotel in a perfect Paris location with outstanding customer service.

Had a great 10-day stay here in Paris. Location was great, I've walked around Paris a lot during this time and I was very happy with where we stayed. Its quiet and close to all the major landmarks.
Upon arrival we got upgraded to a bigger room with a bigger bed (they said it was their biggest room). This was awesome and probably made our trip because I don't think we would've slept too well in a double bed.
Got a bit confused with the breakfast option. Both mine and my wife's understanding was that the breakfast place in front of reception was 12 euro as the receptionist pointed to the sign they had with this price and then to that room. Turns out it was actually 22 euro instead. Fortunately we did not eat there every day and had we known we would've eaten there even less. It was good enough, but not too worth it for us since my wife barely eats in the morning.
Lastly, one of the receptionist also had a strange reaction when I told her what eastern european country I am originally from (we were talking about my name origin). It kind of made me self conscious the rest of the trip to mention it to anyone once I learned that my people do not have the best reputation here haha. I didn't know this cause I lived in Canada most of my life.
Anyway even with all of this, keeping it a 5 star because the upgrade was nice and I liked it overall.

A lovely hotel that I would recommend. Staff were very helpful with any questions I had. The whats app communication was very useful as they would let me know when my room was ready and I could ask questions which would be answered quickly. The location was great, not far from Gardens de Luxembourg and just round the corner from the Notre Dame bus stop for the Tootoot bus which I used to get around before 7:30pm. The only problem I had was the noise outside my room one night when I needed to be up early the following morning for a coach trip - I realised there were bar tables outside my door used for the bar round the corner as I was on the ground floor. Saying that, if I did go to Paris again I would still stay in this hotel.

I love this hotel with unbeatable location and extremely rare old 17th century house. You are transported back in time with modern amenities inside the room. I experienced a royal suite and a single room looking into the coutyard. Both were enchanting. The breakfeast is offered at 10 € but if you like it you can add more, which I did because it was high quality and truly French in an interesting room. The hotel is managed, should I say hosted, by the lovely Francisco, who has an amazing conversation at any level you wish -from philososphy to poetry to sociology to animal love. His welcome is extremely warm and extra requests always supported. He is a kinder staff you cannot find anywhere else, in contrast to another woman who was there sometimes and not so welcoming.

This must be one of the most authentic hotels we’ve ever stayed in. Its beautiful interior, with many original features, sits just across the street from Notre Dame and right next to the Shakespeare and Company bookstore, transporting you to the Paris of the 17th century.

Just around the corner, you’ll find the best creperie ever—perfect for enjoying a wonderful meal while watching the lively, chaotic rhythm of Parisian traffic.

I just wanted to say that I really loved the hotel! It was well located and certainly had lots of character and charm. The only thing that really did concern me greatly was the fire escape. I was on the top floor and would have to put a lever down to open a ladder to the roof. I can imagine that if the wooden stair did catch alight, and this exit was needed, I would find it really hard to use, especially in an alarmed state. That's my only concern but did feel that it was a big one as potentially compromised the safety of my family. I loved everything else about it, including the staff.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights with a friend during a city break. For the price, you can’t expect 5* accommodation, but it had everything we needed - a bed, toilet and shower.
The shower space was quite small and a bit challenging to use. However, if you’re not planning to spend much time in the hotel and want to explore Paris, it’s great value for the location.
The staff were also super friendly and welcoming, which made the stay even better.

Hôtel du Pont Neuf offers that classic charm you’d hope for in a traditional Paris hotel. First off, the location is hard to beat — super central with plenty of cafés just steps away. You’re also within walking distance of many key sights, making it an ideal base for exploring the city.
The staff were another highlight. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and welcoming, which really made a difference throughout our stay.

A 2 star hotel in a 5 Star location.
Rooms are small, restroom has a persistent faint rotten egg like odor, the paint on the walls are peeling, everything appears to held together by duct tape/stucco and the wifi never worked from day one.

⭐ Honest review for budget travelers – great location, no luxury, but no surprises either! ⭐
I stayed here mainly because of the location — it’s incredibly central and honestly one of the most affordable options in this area. That alone makes it a great find for budget travelers. Yes, the hotel is old. Very old. Everything from the doors to the furniture is clearly from another decade (or three). But it’s not dirty — just dated.
The rooms are tiny. There’s a bed, a small table, and a wardrobe. That’s it. If you’re planning to be out exploring all day and just need a place to sleep and shower, it works. But fair warning: the shower is very small — moving around is definitely a challenge.
Also, there are very few power outlets. If you travel with lots of gadgets like I do, bring a power strip or adapter. That said, I got exactly what I paid for — no more, no less — and I’m totally fine with that.
Staff at the reception were all very kind and helpful. There’s always someone at the front desk, day and night, which I appreciated. There’s no elevator, so if you have trouble with stairs, this might not be the place for you.
But honestly? The location makes up for everything else. You can walk almost anywhere you’d want to go, and public transport is right around the corner. If you’re realistic about your expectations, this hotel absolutely delivers.

The location is good but the service and room were not. On arriving I had to call a number to get a code to get into the hotel and was told off by the person I spoke to because they said it was very inconvenient that I had arrived when the reception was closed! The bedlinen was clean but the room was smelly and seemed like it hadn't been redecorated for decades. I had to keep the window open to alleviate the smell. Defunct and yellowing machines hang off the bedroom walls, which are very thin so you can hear anything happening in the next room. There was supposed to be breakfast but I never found it. I definitely wouldn't stay here again.

Highly recommended! I stayed here in a charming, traditional old-style Parisian room for 4 nights on a trip to Paris. Great location, right across the Seine from Notre-Dame and walking distance to many great restaurants in the Latin quarter. Sergio was the host and manager, and he was very welcoming, friendly and gracious. Would 100% return and well worth the money for a charming, antique building in the heart of Paris.

The location of this hotel is fantastic, and for the price it wasn't bad at all. We were on the 4th floor, and could see Notre Dame only a couple of blocks away out our window. Friendly check-in. Cleanliness was fine - clean bedding, clean towels. No service for our second night (no bed made, no clean towels), so make sure you hang your towels to dry. Bed was reasonably comfortable, and king size which is difficult to find in Paris.
Be aware there is no elevator, and the stairs are windy (70 steps to the 4th floor). A bit difficult to navigate carrying even small luggage, as well as after a couple bottles of wine. 🙂

My husband & I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary last week & stayed at the Hotel Cluny Square June 1-9, 2026. Everything about our stay was perfect! Front desk staff was friendly & knowledgeable, breakfasts were superb & included with our stay, location was excellent & we were able to walk to the museums, Eiffel Tower, gardens, etc., our room was very clean with superb housekeeping services & we turned on the a/c only at night to keep out the street noise, which was the right thing to do for us. We would definitely stay here again.

Clean room. Okay staff. Perfect location close to Notre Dame, the Metro and the most hip part of Paris. This is perfect, if you want a bed, breakfast and best location for you money.

By far one of the loveliest hotels we have stayed at!
We absolutely loved our stay here and can’t recommend it enough. The location is perfect, the staff is lovely and the rooms are very clean and comfortable.
My husband surprised me for my birthday with the VIP package it included champagne, chocolates and roses waiting in our room when we arrived and it was wonderful. It was our first time in France and seeing that with the stunning wrap around balcony actually brought me to tears.
Book this hotel!! You will not regret it.

A very pleasant stay! We arrived in Paris early and the owner was very kind in allowing my wife and I to check in early. The room was clean with a beautiful balcony, the bed was comfortable, and the hotel is very centrally located for traveling anywhere in Paris or beyond. Due to its very close proximity to both Metro and RER stations. As some other reviews noted the rooms are a bit small, but nothing out of the ordinary. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would stay again!

Very good location, no elevator from ground floor to 1st floor.so have to carry your luggage upstair by yourselves but that not a big deal for me 🙂

Tips for Booking a Budget Stay Near Notre-Dame
Securing a great deal in central Paris requires a bit of strategy. The demand for rooms near the Île de la Cité remains high year-round, but understanding the rhythm of the city can save you significantly. Here are practical tips to ensure you get the best value without compromising on location.
Travel in the shoulder season. The months of April, May, September, and October offer pleasant weather with fewer crowds than the summer peak. Hotel rates in the 4th and 5th arrondissements drop noticeably during these periods, allowing you to stay closer to the cathedral for less.
Check for breakfast inclusion policies. A "cheap" room rate can become expensive if you pay €15 per person for a basic hotel breakfast. Look for hotels that include a simple continental breakfast or skip it entirely. The streets around the Latin Quarter are filled with affordable bakeries where you can grab a coffee and pastry for a fraction of the hotel price.
Prioritize proximity to RER B for airport access. If you are flying into Charles de Gaulle or Orly, staying near the Saint-Michel or Luxembourg RER stations saves you money on taxis. This area overlaps perfectly with the budget hotel zone near Notre-Dame, making your arrival and departure both cheap and efficient.
Look for renovated 2-star and 3-star properties. France’s star rating system is based on amenities, not quality of decor. A recently renovated 2-star hotel often offers a cleaner, more modern experience than a tired 3-star. Read recent reviews focusing on mattress quality and bathroom updates rather than relying solely on the star classification.
Book refundable rates and monitor prices. Paris hotel prices fluctuate based on events and occupancy. Book a refundable room early to secure your spot, then set a price alert. If the rate drops, cancel and rebook at the lower price. This strategy is particularly effective for the independent, family-run hotels common in this district.
Ask for a room on a high floor facing the courtyard. Street noise in the lively Latin Quarter can be significant, especially on weekends. Requesting a courtyard-facing room usually costs nothing extra but dramatically improves sleep quality. High floors also offer better natural light in the narrow, historic buildings typical of the area.
Staying near Notre-Dame de Paris places you at the crossroads of history, literature, and gastronomy. Whether you are visiting the newly reopened cathedral, browsing the bouquinistes along the Seine, or exploring the winding streets of the Latin Quarter, a smart hotel choice enhances the entire trip.
By focusing on value rather than just the lowest price tag, you ensure a restful night in a safe, character-filled environment. The right budget hotel allows you to step outside your door and immediately feel the pulse of Paris, proving that an unforgettable stay in the heart of the city is within reach for every traveler.
