Reims may be synonymous with champagne, but the culinary landscape of this historic city extends far beyond the region’s famous vineyards. Tucked between Gothic architecture and Art Deco facades, a vibrant Japanese food scene has quietly established itself as a favorite among locals. For residents and travelers looking to trade a traditional bistro chair for a sushi counter, the "Cité des Sacres" offers a surprisingly diverse range of options.
The evolution of sushi in Reims reflects a broader French appreciation for precision and quality ingredients. While the city is steeped in tradition, its dining scene is dynamic, embracing international flavors while maintaining a distinctly French insistence on freshness. Whether you are a student looking for an affordable lunch menu or a connoisseur seeking omakase-style dining, the city’s restaurateurs have curated experiences to satisfy every level of expertise.
Navigating the streets of Reims, you will find everything from sleek, modern dining rooms to intimate, family-run establishments where the chef greets you by name. The best sushi spots here understand that the art of sushi is not just about raw fish; it is about the rice, the knife work, and the harmony of textures. As the demand for Japanese cuisine grows, so does the competition, ensuring that only the most dedicated chefs thrive.
For the uninitiated, the variety can be overwhelming. Do you opt for the classic elegance of nigiri, the comforting warmth of a ramen side dish, or the creative flair of a signature maki roll? The beauty of the Reims sushi scene is that you do not have to choose just one; many of these establishments have mastered the art of the full Japanese dining experience, blending tradition with modern European influences.
This guide aims to cut through the noise, highlighting the establishments that consistently deliver exceptional quality. We have considered the freshness of the fish, the seasoning of the rice, the atmosphere, and the value for money to bring you a curated list of the best the city has to offer. It is time to step away from the champagne flute for a moment and pick up a pair of chopsticks.
Without further delay, here is where you should be booking your next table.

Amazing service! The chefs were very welcoming, served us with a smile, and were very generous.
The sushi was simple and tasted fresh.
Would definitely recommend this place. Also the prices are very low for the quality being served.
They have good value menus, for individuals or for sharing.
They gave us free soup for each person and a small free sesame salad.
I wouldn't recommend the desserts, though, but everything else on the menu is worth it.
Try the crispy sushi made with fried onion on top. It's their speciality of which they are so proud.
You should give this place a try if you are in Reims.

What a delightful evening spent at this family ran restaurant. Food is excellent, we had fried Squid, chicken on skewers and a mix of sashimi all well prepared and tasty. Love the decoration and the layout. We had our dog with us and the staff are very sweet with her. Definitely come back when we stop by next time.

Not a lot of Japanese restaurants in France manage to serve a truly authentic experience! Genuinely impressed and the quality is well worth its price. Make sure to book in as it may get crowded during dinner time. Will definitely be back again! 💖

Shin’zen was a surprising discovery. Sushi and sashimi were very fresh and portions were plentiful. The real gem here is their delicious yakitori (stuff on skewers). When you enter the restaurant, you can smell the alluring meats of the grill. Some of their meals come in combinations and include a dessert and coffee/tea. Wonderful restaurant.
Melissa Stansfield★★★★★
Wonderful vegan sushi available here. I had the avocado and cucumber options. Both were delicious. Staff were friendly and prompt with their service. I highly recommend this place! If I am ever back in Reims I know where I will be going!

Small sushi bar near the hotel I was staying in. I had the Midi Soba legumes (noodles with vegetables) and the Signature Salmon Braise rolls that also had a slice of tempura shrimp in the middle to add a lovely crunch. Both delicious. Small family concern and the service was great as I mumbled through English and clarified via Google translate. All round brilliant for a short meal and good value price wise.

One of my friends recommended this restaurant to me. What an amazing place. Why didn’t I go there before. My daughter loves sushi and this place is ‘the best’ to have sushi without hesitating how the quality must be and in peace. It’s a big size restaurant but out of this world!! Quiet, vibrant, ambiance was soothing and representing Japanese culture and style . Top notch in quality, quantity also the top class customer service. Every dish was mouth watering, carefully selected ingredients, portion size was just perfect. We went on ordering and didn’t feel we had enough. When it comes to the quality I am too fussy and hygiene I am an OCD. But here, the hygiene level was 10/10. This is the only second place in France I found was fresh and hygienic. Presentation was 👌👌, I give 10/10. Staff was super professional and approaching also deserves 10/10. Dessert was melting in mouth. Yummy yummy mochis. Many of my friends already dined there after I told them and were all praise to the team. I would recommend this place without any hesitation. If you are visiting Reims, France and if you are a sushi lover, this is the place to go. Quality for the price we paid was worth it. Being a restaurant owner myself I know what it means to have perfect review. All the best Côté Sushi. Keep it up. You keep up the quality and the hard work going, money follows.

This was my first visit and really loved the food. I must say each and every dish was nicely cooked and it was tasty. They really took a bit time to bring the food but it was worth the wait. I highly recommend people to try the Hot section and also the Japanese delicacies. I will visit again soon.

What to say! A fabulous sushi restaurant with a Peruvian twist. I had sashimi, salmon and tuna, served with rice. It was delicious, beautifully presented, and reasonably priced. Service was also very good. Reasonably priced drinks also. They have more adventurous items which I'll be trying on my next trip. Go there!

Consistently sharp and refreshing — a real find for a city like Reims. This place leans much closer to authentic Japanese cuisine than the many restaurants that merely claim to be "fusion." The staff show genuine, in-depth knowledge of their extensive sake list, and every dish is precisely executed. Given the quality and the generosity of the portions, it's remarkably good value — not expensive at all in my opinion.

Very disappointing experience, especially for €30 per person. We were three vegans and had specifically asked beforehand about vegan options, but there was very little choice. The sushi was tiny and had almost no filling, and we ended up eating the same few dishes repeatedly because there was nothing else available. We were also limited to only three orders, and dessert wasn’t included.
The drinks were overpriced too: €7.50 for what was basically lemonade with lemon and violet syrup. We paid around €110 for three people and left feeling that it was absolutely not worth the price. Definitely not the all-you-can-eat experience we expected.

GENKI is an absolute gem!
This cute little Asian restaurant is always full—and for good reason. The ramen noodles are truly the star of the place: perfectly cooked, full of texture, and incredibly satisfying. The curry is also delicious and packed with flavor.
We ordered the menu and loved everything—especially the miso soup, the gyozas, and the small salad, which were all fresh and well prepared. Overall, the food quality is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable for what you get.
Big kudos to the staff as well! Every time I’ve been here, they’ve been super friendly and welcoming. They all speak English, and some even speak Spanish, which is a nice bonus. I also love sitting at the bar and watching the cooking process—it really adds to the experience.
I’ll definitely keep coming back!

Tips for Choosing Great Sushi in Reims
Selecting the right sushi spot is about more than just proximity; it requires a bit of know-how to ensure you get the best possible meal. The quality of Japanese cuisine can vary significantly, and a little insight goes a long way in distinguishing a truly authentic experience from a mediocre one. Here are some essential tips to enhance your dining experience in Reims.
Check the Rice Temperature and Texture
In authentic Japanese cuisine, the rice is just as important as the fish. Look for rice that is slightly warm or at room temperature, never cold and hard from refrigeration. It should be lightly seasoned with vinegar and hold together without being mushy, indicating the chef has respected the fundamental principles of sushi making.
Look Beyond Salmon
While salmon is a staple and often the most popular item on a French sushi menu, don’t be afraid to explore. High-quality spots in Reims often offer more delicate fish like sea bream, mackerel, or scallops. If a restaurant’s menu is exclusively limited to the standard tuna and salmon trio, it may indicate a lack of specialization.
Lunch Menus Offer the Best Value
If you want to test the quality of a sushi spot without breaking the bank, visit during the midday service. Most reputable restaurants in Reims offer "formules" or set menus at lunch that include miso soup, a selection of sushi, and a salad. This allows you to sample the chef’s technique at a fraction of the dinner price.
Consider the Non-Sushi Items
A restaurant that cares about its sushi will usually care about the rest of its menu. Pay attention to the details of side dishes like gyoza, edamame, or tempura. If the establishment takes pride in these simple items, it is a strong indicator that they apply the same level of care to their raw fish.
Prioritize Freshness over All-You-Can-Eat
While buffet-style sushi can be tempting for large appetites, quality often suffers. For the best experience in Reims, opt for à la carte dining where dishes are prepared to order. This ensures the fish has not been sitting out on a conveyor belt or under glass for extended periods.
The journey through Reims’ sushi scene is one of discovery, offering a delicious counterpoint to the city’s heavy traditional fare. Whether you are refueling after a day of touring the Cathedral or looking for a light dinner before a night out, these establishments provide a fresh, healthy, and satisfying alternative.
Exploring these culinary gems reminds us that great food knows no borders. The chefs in Reims have taken the discipline of Japanese cooking and infused it with local hospitality, creating a dining experience that is both globally inspired and distinctly French. So, the next time you find yourself in the heart of Champagne, remember that a world-class meal might just be waiting behind a bamboo curtain.
