12 Best Family-Friendly Restaurants in Biarritz

Dining out with children in the French Basque Country should feel like a pleasure, not a compromise. Biarritz, with its sweeping Atlantic views and relaxed surf culture, is far more welcoming to families than many formal French resort towns. The key is knowing which tables offer the right mix of local authenticity, space for strollers, and menus that please picky eaters without forcing parents to settle for fast food.

The local culinary scene revolves around fresh seafood, Bayonne ham, and sheep’s milk cheese, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t pasta or perfectly crisped chicken for the little ones. Many of the best establishments here embrace the European tradition of late, leisurely lunches, yet they remain remarkably patient with the unpredictable rhythms of young diners. From beachfront terraces to tucked-away bistros, the city offers a diverse range of environments suited to different energy levels.

When evaluating a restaurant for a family, the physical space matters as much as the food. Parents need room for diaper bags, high chairs that are actually clean, and a noise level that absorbs the occasional meltdown. Biarritz excels at the casual brasserie format, where the atmosphere is lively enough to mask a fussy toddler but refined enough for adults to enjoy a glass of Irouléguy wine.

Proximity to attractions also plays a vital role in a successful meal. A restaurant located near the Grande Plage, the Cité de l’Océan, or the public gardens reduces the travel time for tired legs. Being able to step outside and immediately walk off a heavy meal along the coastal path is a luxury that defines the Biarritz dining experience.

This guide focuses on establishments that consistently deliver on both hospitality and flavor. We have prioritized venues that offer children’s menus, flexible service, and a genuine welcome rather than a mere tolerance for younger guests. You will find a mix of traditional Basque spots and modern kitchens, all vetted for their ability to handle the beautiful chaos of family travel.

Whether you are visiting for a week of surfing lessons or just stopping through on a road trip down the coast, these options will keep everyone full and happy. Below is a curated selection of the best family-friendly restaurants in Biarritz, chosen for their consistency, atmosphere, and ability to cater to all ages.

Very friendly and quick service. The presentation of the food is very good and the atmosphere is nice! The food itself is decent, but still a tiny bit rough around the edges. The intestines of the crevettes were not removed, some of the chips (fries) were not cooked so well and the squid tentacle was a bit dry. I am not saying the food was bad, this is critique on a high level, but this is what takes a star away for me.

A really great experience at Chez BB: Bistroquet Biarritz. The hot dog and monkfish tail were delicious. We also had calamari as a starter — highly recommend it 🙂 The service was excellent, and the waiters spoke English 🫶 Definitely recommend visiting! 🇺🇦

Excellent sand quick service when ordering Moules Frite. They came pretty small but don't let the size fool you, they were delicious. Soft and delicate, moules marinière we're everything we expected. This came with fries and bread. A comment on the fries, very good! Unusual size and seasoned with paprika, would definitely come back here for this dish, or try a new one! I've been coming to Biarritz a long time and there's always been a restaurant here, don't remember if it was always Chez Bibi but we recommend a visit. Don't be in a rush, enjoy the ambiance and French food!

Only restaurant that serves food after 2:30pm. Great location. Service was super nice and was helpful to find vegetarian options.

We have been coming here since we moved to France 7 months ago and we LOVE it. One of the best steaks in the area. Service is always lovely and helpful and we love the atmosphere too. Highly recommend
Saladin Elkadiki★★★★★
One of the jewels of Biarritz with an Amazing rooftop bar and sea view restaurant below.. Located above of the Galleries Lafayette. Serving wonderful cocktails, great French cuisine plus a great wine selection! The Partager steaks are a must if more than one person! Atmosphere and choice of music is lovely yet calm for chatting. Staff are courteous and multilingual. Emma was very welcoming at reception. Suggest to start with a cocktail on rooftop before sunset! Will appreciate it!
Eric Feyfant★★★★☆
The food was decent, I will have hope for slightly better for the price. The service was good but clearly young people in training not on part with what the restaurant is trying to sell you. The decor is clearly reminiscent of the années folles, (20s) and it is very well done. On Friday they have 2 services and will kick you out at 9:30pm, which is ok if they tell you in advance when you book.
Joe Faddoul★★★★★
Excellent new spot in Biarritz! The location, decor and views are unique, and we didn’t expect the food to be that delightful, but all the platters were delicious! The staff are very friendly!

A family run place unpretentious and really wholesome. Great taste and value. Very friendly too!

The hidden gem in Biarritz. The small restaurant with a homemade dish. Very dish are delicious. The quality and quantity are the same. The price is reasonable (cheaper than others restaurants in Biarritz)
Hazel McCartney★★★★☆
Don’t be put off by its location, this is a wonderful couple run local restaurant. The food is beautifully cooked. I asked for just simple salad for starters and I was given beautifully dressed white asparagus, Toms and lettuce, we also had hot buttered snails. Dish of the day, mussels and chips, absolutely delicious, also had rare duck. Good local carafes of wine. Lovely friendly service
Martin Sampson★★★★★
This is an absolute gem of a restaurant in Biarritz and you absolutely must add it to your itinerary. Run by a married couple (speaking French and Spanish) they will delight you with a small but perfectly cooked menu which includes homemade desserts. The value for money you get here is second to none. I HIGHLY recommend the escargot and the duck dishes. The pistachio Panna cotta we had afterwards was an absolute treat!

Really cool and friendly staff! Great vibes, lowkey vibes. I had the weekly drink special which was a tiramisu latte and it was good. Didn’t try the food but all of the pastries and desserts looked good.
Teresa M★★★★★
One of my favorite new lunch spots in Biarritz. The place is very cozy and the staff is exceptionally friendly, relaxed and attentive. There’s a changing daily plate as well as super tasty dishes on the lunch menu – each one more delicious than the next. Today I had the Ossobucco and it was awesome. What I really like here is that the cooking is honest and authentic, without too many crazy reinterpretations. The portions are huge and filling – and all at a very fair price. Thanks for that super cool food experience! I’ll definitely come back again.

So far the best café we visited in our France journey!

Visited here without a reservation as a table for two. Surprisingly good food for a place we felt may be a tourist trap given its central location within Biarritz. Would highly recommend the gnocchi or the meatball dishes, both were excellent and not overly expensive at around €20 per dish. Our waiter appeared to be looking after a large number of tables but that didn’t stop him and service was both very efficient and very quick - perfect for a quick bit of lunch. If you’re looking for somewhere not overly expensive that you’ll leave feeling satisfied then this place is a winner. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and either would be suitable.
Sofia Prochna★★★★★
The BEST pizza I’ve ever had! Every flavor combination is incredible, I was especially impressed by the pickled onions and the selection of cheeses. There’s often a queue, but it’s absolutely worth the wait. The waiters are very attentive, friendly, and welcoming. Highly recommended!
Allie Villegas★★★★★
My food beautiful and delicious as well as the cocktail, both recommended by Alexandre who was lovely. The food came super fast and I was seated immediately! 10/10!

Burrata salad was exceptional, the meatball pasta could’ve had more flavour but was still tasty. Great service and vibe.

Very good food and services. My boyfriend and I had dinner at this restaurant. For me, our dinner was the most delicious food that I had ever eaten in France. Thanks to the chef for our wonderful dinner. And the service person could speak English very well and his hospitality was admirable too. If we return to Biarritz again, for sure, we will return to this restaurant again.
San San Tso★★★★☆
Vegetarian plate was ⭐️⭐️ only. Tasted only bitter veggie and boring taste overall. My bf hamburger he said was good but the French fries were not crispy enough. Peppers and potatoes starters were good.
Lynsey Hewson★★☆☆☆
We were recommended this place for atmosphere, service and food. We received none of that. I wasn't going to leave a review but this is the second email sent from the restaurant asking for a review. The service was not great, felt we were an inconvenience and any request was eye-rolled at. The main issue was the food we received having asked for it to be medium and the comment from the waitress was "you want it a little pink" which would be perfect yes, not what was received - purple. It was sent back along with a fillet that was the same. We got it back cooked as 'medium', but sides were not replenished so we asked for more fries to go with our food and were charged for. To top it off another couple who seemed to know the chef and waitress were talking at the bar and my friend would have some French and it is understood they were talking about 'the Irish', and looking over at us. We couldn't get out of there quick enough it was very uncomfortable and rude service. We also noted on the booking it was for a birthday celebration clearly nothing was offered to mark this event. The worst dining experience we had in Biarritz unfortunately 😔
Jack Evans★★★★★
The atmosphere may be informal and convivial but the quality of the food, especially the fish, is outstanding. Our bream and tuna were beautifully presented and cooked. Crunchy, fresh vegetables were included in the reasonable price of the mains.
Jacek Lasota★★★☆☆
The food is delicious, but the portions are too small. It is a joke; you have to choose between vegetables and french fries. Remember to go for french fries.

Great location for a drink or some small bites with and incredible view
Amandine Jalquin★★★★★
We love this place! It has the best view in Biarritz and the best vibe. It is a really cool place. You can sit outside by the car park and the staff will go to collect your glasses. It is the best spot to watch sunsets. People play petanque sometimes there too. Good vibe only.
William Chew★★★★☆
Only had drinks. Service a little grumpy and pretty pricey...but, it is a lovely atmosphere and views of the Biarritz surf beach. So lovely especially given it is right next to a busy car park.
Marzena Czapaluk★★★★★
Great bar with a breathtaking view. A lot of people having drinks, chatting, observing sunsets or surfers. Beautiful spot for all.
Cloe Dipsos★★★★☆
Amazing spot to enjoy a drink with an incredible view, especially around sunset. The atmosphere is really nice and relaxing. Only small downside: the food menu is a bit limited.

Marie “MareNostrum”★★★★★
The food and the view outstanding. We had seafood and fish, very fresh, tasty and beautifully served. If you drive there, go to the car park which is just in front. Parking on the street is rather impossible. The lady at the reception very nice, the waiter a bold shaved pal very nice, humorous and professional. The rest of the people were not really nice or attentive, they were a bit rude. That’s why 4* for the service.
Chris Nigro★★★★★
Our girls had the chicken dish and one of them said this is the best chicken I have ever had. I had a great fish dish and my wife had the tuna tartar but it was a little too heavy on the wasabi but still full of flavor. Presentation was amazing. Wine pours were a little small but the price per glass was also less than other restaurants we had been to.
K E★★★★★
Four of us dined here for lunch on Oct 15 and while portions were not overly large they certainly were sufficient if sharing some tapas, each having an entre, followed by dessert. Staff were welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. All the dishes were delicious.
farkad ezzet★★★★★
I had the escalope for stater then the lobster for main course. I will order disserte in a minute but wanted to write a review right now because I am so excited to post my review before I head out. This was a very tasty meal, one of the best I’ve had in Biarritz although I have come here 3 times a year regularly and always dined.

This is a great place to watch the sunset while dining. The food itself was pretty good. The cod was very tasty, but one could‘ve gotten more out of the lobster pasta. Our waiter was a friendly, funny and patient. All in all, a pretty good place if you want a nice ambiance at the beach.
Dylan L★★★★★
Friendly welcome, efficient service, tasty food, great view to the Atlantic. Thanks to the team at L'Impératrice.
Mike Brady★★★★★
Best escargot and hake we have had in France on this trip. The cocktails we had before dinner were really excellent and the sommelier made great wine suggestions for dinner. Price was very reasonable for what all we had.
C R★★☆☆☆
I ordered a salad and french fries from the menu as a main course and received the kitchen leftovers.. I had to call and ask the waiter if this was the salad, and he replied it was called “the salad of the day” when asked, bc it was looking like anything but a salad, instead it was consisting mainly out of stewed broccoli and cauliflowers (which was cut with a contaminated knife bc I could taste the shrimp out of it) hummus, and a not so fresh decorative salad leaf with cherry tomatoes on top… and the French fries? In oil soaked chunky potato wedges... The only thing nice was the ambience, now it has 2-3 hours passed since I had the dinner and my stomach is still upset. I don’t like leaving negative thoughts and reviews on the internet but as a vegetarian I felt very disappointed. So I wouldn’t recommend it if you are a strict vegan/vegetarian.

This restaurant is run by a well-coordinated team. They serve almost exclusively Basque dishes, Basque beers, Basque liqueurs and further drinks. And yes, the name says it all: This restaurant specialises in excellent fish and octopus dishes. They also serve excellent burgers made from high-quality meat as well as children’s meals. Thank you very much! I am coming back!
Elena Aleksandrova★★★★★
We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. Everything was excellent — the food was delicious, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor, and the staff was polite and welcoming. I especially enjoyed the hake steak with chorizo and sun-dried tomatoes, served with mashed potatoes — it was perfectly cooked and very tasty. The only thing worth mentioning is that the service was not particularly fast, and we had to wait a little longer than usual. However, if you are in good company, this is hardly a downside — it simply gives you more time to enjoy the atmosphere. Overall, highly recommended!
Ida Bokat★★★★★
Great restaurant with beautiful views and even better service. We originally tried to walk into the restaurant next door for lunch however they declined us and I’m glad they did as octopus was 10/10. I had the beef tartare which tasted delicious paired with a glass of red wine from Bordeaux and my partner had a burger which he thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend this great establishment and we’ll be back next time we’re in town.
Rosana Vaz★★★★★
Great view location and customer service. Food is quick and tasty.

Absolutely amazing, the food, the interior the drinks. We came first Friday of January place was busy but they found a table for us. Warm and cozy great wine list and the food was delicious. Big portions i barely finished mine. Good prices as well.

Really nice rooftop tapas place. We went to the higher of the two rooftops. The food and service and vibes were all really great. The kiwi daiquiri is can’t miss and the duck carpaccio was the standout food dish. We got 4 items for 2 people and it was a little too much food. I’d recommend 3 items. The cake was just alright and my espresso after dinner took like 10 min but other than that, great time.
Danny Estavillo★★★★★
The view at Olatua is unbelievable! That alone was worth a visit for a drink. We enjoyed their cocktails, wine and food. The portions were very generous, we actually ordered too much food for four people. The staff was incredibly kind and even went the extra mile since our French is not so good and accommodated with English. Our kids 9 & 11 enjoyed it and especially that you could peak over into the aquarium and occasionally see a seal! I highly recommend visiting Olatua!
G. Hauray★★★★★
Seems like a tourist trap because of its roof deck overlooking the rocher de la vierge but the food and drinks are top quality. The croquettes, carpaccio, and roasted carrots were all delicious. It is an ideal spot to relax.
a_kountouris★★★★★
Stunning views and a great vibe! Definitely recommend stopping by for a drink. Just a heads-up, it gets pretty windy up there.
Lauren Elise★★★★★
I stopped here after spending a few hours at the aquarium and had a tea. I would come back for food because the view and vibe is great, even on a cloudy rainy day. (Playlist is great)

Dinner at Marloe, located in the outskirts of the city in an austere modern building with the interior a bit more modern, expansive and cold than we expected from such a highly rated French Bistro. Luckily the food and service made up for the visual let down. The Chickpea soup, Scallops, and seafood Cannelloni were well prepared and presented.
Molly Boyd★★★★★
My sister and I went on a quick trip to Biarritz from San Sebastián and we’re recommended Marloe. We enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairing and were beyond impressed. We loved every dish and were so satisfied with the service. We would give this 10 stars if we could!
Tim Wong★★★★★
A perfect dinner experience with great decor and atmosphere, polite service and awesome food. I had the autumn velouté soup with chestnuts and mushrooms, the chef’s signature lobster with its bisque and risotto, and the crepes suzettes (which was made from scratch and the steps explained to me). Overall definitely highly recommend, I only had 1 night’s stay in Biarritz and felt very fortunate I got to dine here! Thanks to the whole team at Marloe for a great dinner.
Eric Beydoun★★★★★
Great experience, food and service at Le Marloe Biarritz. We ordered a number of appetizers, entrees, drinks, and desserts, and were blown away by all of them. Of course I personally had to try the Xmas specialty of the moment Volail with truffle and foie gras. I've never eaten such a moist piece of chicken. The customer service was exceptional and the chefs specialty the "Omar" was bursting with flavor. A must, if you're ever in Biarritz.
Francesco★★★★★
Absolutely exceptional 👌 the greatest service and accomodation I experienced in Biarritz. Not a single dish disappointed, they were all very exciting, but the carpaccio was the most memorable. If in Biarritz, this place should be amongst your top selection.

Tips for Dining Out with Kids in Biarritz

Dining hours in France can be a shock to the system for visiting families, but a little preparation goes a long way. The rhythm of the day here is different, and understanding the local customs will save you from the dreaded "hangry" hour. The following tips will help you navigate the Biarritz food scene smoothly with children in tow.

Embrace the Early Bird Special (French Style)
Unlike in North America or the UK, dinner service in Biarritz rarely starts before 7:00 PM or 7:30 PM. If your children usually eat at 5:30 PM, adjust their schedule or give them a substantial snack. Alternatively, make lunch your main family meal of the day, as kitchens are typically open from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM and offer better value set menus.

Look for the "Formule" or "Menu Enfant"
While not every restaurant advertises it online, many brasseries offer a child-friendly fixed menu. This usually includes a main course like grilled chicken or fish with fries, a drink, and an ice cream. It is often cheaper than ordering a la carte and ensures the portion size is appropriate for a smaller appetite.

Book a Table on the Terrace
Biarritz enjoys beautiful weather, but more importantly, outdoor seating provides natural white noise and a bit more space. It is easier to park a stroller next to a terrace table than inside a cramped dining room. Always request a terrace table when reserving, but have a backup plan for windy days.

Skip the High Chair, Bring a Booster
While many restaurants in Biarritz do have high chairs, the supply can be limited during peak season. If you are traveling with a toddler, a portable fabric booster seat or a clip-on chair is a lifesaver. It guarantees your child has a safe place to sit even if the restaurant’s equipment is already in use.

Teach the "Bonjour" Rule
French culture places high importance on greetings. Teach your children to say "Bonjour" or "Bonsoir" when entering a shop or restaurant. This small gesture goes a long way in establishing goodwill with the staff, making them far more likely to accommodate special requests for the kids.

Finding a place where you can relax while your children eat well is the secret to a successful holiday in the Basque Country. The best family restaurants in Biarritz understand that happy parents make for happy customers, and they strive to create an environment where no one feels like they are disrupting the peace.

With the sound of the Atlantic in the background and a plate of fresh food in front of you, dining out here becomes a highlight of the trip rather than a logistical hurdle. Take your time, enjoy the local flavors, and let the laid-back Biarritz atmosphere set the tone for a memorable family meal.
