12 Best Sushi Spots in Perpignan

Perpignan sits in the sun-drenched south of France, where Catalan culture meets Mediterranean living. This unique heritage is reflected in the city’s vibrant food scene, which goes far beyond traditional French fare. While the region is famous for hearty meat dishes and sweet wines, the proximity to the coast brings a wave of exceptional seafood into the local kitchens.

Finding high-quality sushi in a city known for its "cargolade" and "boles de picolat" might seem surprising, but Perpignan has embraced Japanese cuisine with open arms. The demand for fresh fish, precise rice preparation, and elegant presentation has grown significantly over the last decade. Today, locals and visitors alike can enjoy authentic Japanese dining experiences that rival those found in larger French metropolitan areas.

However, the landscape of sushi restaurants varies wildly in terms of quality and authenticity. Some spots offer fast-casual rolls perfect for a quick lunch, while others provide an intimate omakase experience that honors traditional Japanese techniques. Knowing where to go ensures you get the freshest cuts and the most satisfying flavors for your budget.

To curate this list, we evaluated restaurants based on the freshness of their fish, the quality of their sushi rice, the skill of their chefs, and the overall dining atmosphere. We looked for spots that consistently deliver excellent value, whether you are looking for a casual takeaway box or a refined evening out. Our focus is on places that prioritize hygiene and ingredient sourcing just as much as flavor.

Whether you are a local looking to switch up your weekly routine or a traveler craving a taste of the sea, Perpignan has an option for you. From hidden gems tucked away in the historic center to modern spots near the train station, the city offers a diverse range of sushi experiences. You just need to know which doors to walk through.

Below, we have compiled the definitive guide to the best sushi spots in Perpignan. Each location offers something unique, ensuring that your next Japanese meal in the capital of French Catalonia is nothing short of excellent.

Yori Izakaya in Perpignan is a true hidden gem for anyone who appreciates authentic Japanese cuisine without compromise. From the moment you step inside, you can feel the atmosphere of a genuine izakaya bar — intimate, warm, and relaxed, yet clearly focused on detail. The interior is modern with a distinct Japanese touch, and the ambiance is ideal both for a romantic dinner and for gathering with friends. The food is the reason you come back. The sushi is fresh, precise, and well-balanced — the rice perfectly prepared, the fish high quality and clean in flavor. The hot dishes, especially Izakaya specialties, Soba, and Donburi, demonstrate a serious level of culinary discipline. The flavors are deep but never overpowering; everything is harmonious and thoughtfully crafted. Portions are fair, and the presentation is neat and visually very appealing. The staff is professional, efficient, and friendly, without unnecessary formality. It’s clear they know what they’re doing and understand the menu — ready to recommend a dish or drink that truly complements your choice. In terms of price, Yori Izakaya offers excellent value for money. This is not fast-food sushi, but a serious restaurant that consistently maintains high quality. In conclusion: if you are in Perpignan and looking for an authentic Japanese experience with character, Yori Izakaya is well worth a visit — once you discover it, you will very likely return.

Yori Izakaya is a fantastic spot for Japanese cuisine lovers in Perpignan. The atmosphere is cozy and modern, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the sushi is fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The menu offers great variety, making it perfect for a dinner with friends or a romantic night out. Highly recommended!

Spectacular and very much authentic. Menu is varied with choices well beyond Sushis. Though they are sooo yummy! Better give a call to book as it is a very popular and affordable place.

We drove almost an hour and a half to try this well-reviewed restaurant and were disappointed. We arrived at noon, the waiter asked us to order quickly, we ordered a few meals, the portion was very big but almost all tasted the same, and the tempura was not good . The service is not friendly, it feels like you have to eat quickly and they are going to call it a day. 😞

Pretty good. Generous miso soup and they bring it out right away. Chicken kaarage I enjoyed a lot. Tempura ok but not impressive. We will come back.

Very good atmosphere and delicious 😋 foods. I'm very satisfied with it. And reasonable price. I went to there for a lunch. It was easy and nice to choose menu with photos. I want to try sake there next time. I highly recommend.

Nice welcome. Friendly. Small place. I don’t find the seating cozy, it’s functional. If there’s a loud group, it can overtake the room. Simple menu and reasonable prices. It was fine, but I didn’t realize the gyu no tataki is served cold so it wasn’t super enjoyable. Nice desert of mascorpone

Incredible! Fantastic! Me and my girlfriend are so happy for discovering this place, makes it worth coming back to Perpignan. This small restaurant made us a trip to the best of japan with its food quality and taste, as well as the good ambient and decoration. Thank you and à bientôt.
CJ H★★★★☆
Efficiently run (solo plus cook) small Asian theme eatery. I wouldn’t name it as ‘Japanese’ exactly but a fusion theme. The menu is limited. For France the cost was ok.

These are undoubtedly the most delicious sushi I've ever tasted in Perpignan. While at the market, as usual, my girlfriend and I decided to try some freshly made sushi, and we weren't disappointed! Funny and friendly staff 🌞

Fantastic place! It's by far my favorite sushi. They're prepared right in front of you, the atmosphere is super friendly, and the food is quick. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The platter we ordered was the most expensive, but the prices are still reasonable for such high-quality sushi.

Very delicious and tasty Sushi, small but nice ambience- even with a terminal to order it, so without having a breakdown while trying to understand/speak french 😉 the only thing i question is the use of paper/plastic packages despite pointing out (at the terminal ) that we'd eat here - So there's room for improvement for the environment 😉

The atmosphere was non existent, beer was warm and the rice cold. A constant stream of delivery drivers and barely any service. Not recommended.

Happy to find a good place to eat sushi in Perpignan, specially because there was a French guy that was able to speak English, that’s a big plus in France. Sushi quality really good, sushi rolls were ok and prices were in the range of normal. Happy and you definitely have to give it a try. We ate it in the restaurant and not take away.

Amazing experience at Dragon Sushi! 🍣 The sushi is truly excellent, very fresh, well-prepared, and above all, bursting with flavor. You can tell the ingredients are high-quality, and everything is incredibly delicious. The service is top-notch, and the staff is very pleasant, kind, and welcoming. I highly recommend this place; I'll definitely be back! 😍🍣

We discovered them at a beach club last summer and we all loved them. So, naturally, we came back this year to get a large takeaway platter. The flavors are sophisticated and range from the simplest to the most original; it's a real explosion of taste. Everything is clean and the products are high quality. We highly recommend this place; they have some of the best sushi I've ever had (and I've tried a lot in several cities). A great success!

De plus le chef et sa collaboratrice sont très sympa. Je vous recommandes le plateau fusion afin de tester une bonne parti de la carte. Vous avez gagnez des clients. Merci dragon sushis.

The owner was lovely and very helpful. Very generous portions and full of flavour. Nice overall experience We had the Souleater burger, Zenitsu Burger, waffle fries and Tempura veg (which was delicious). A lot of food for two hungry people.
Garrett Schlake★★★★★
Great, passionate chef/owner who really cares about his food and customers! The flavors were great, though my chicken was a bit on the dry side. There was a lot of variety without things being too out of hand and I felt everything was well balanced. The portions were also quite generous with what seem to be quality ingredients. You can tell he is humble and takes feedback well, so I hope he continues to do so and grow! I would recommend he maybe trims/staples the table covers better to fit the size of the tables and maybe get a couple higher stools to sit on (shorter people may not feel super comfortable reaching the table) Overall great experience and I would highly recommend! God bless!
Andreea-Carina Deaconu★★★★★
very original concept (for both the menu and the place), loved it. must also try the fries. also option to replace chicken with cauliflower. not much space to dine in
Paul Bernard★★★★★
A very nice small and cute burger joint, slightly off the beaten path but well worth it especially when prices go up during tourist season. The burger recipes are tasty and original, the waffle fries are deliciously crunchy and well seasoned, the owner is friendly and can make the burgers vegetarian as well !

everything was incredible!! The food is delicious and also you can watch anime in the other room. Waiters are patient and lovely ❤️ would recommend 100% and wish you the best

Really nice selection of Asian-inspired bowls made with fresh, tasty sauces and ingredients. I appreciated all of the nice raw vegetables, which can be hard to come by in this part of the world. The service was very friendly. My only complaint is the pop music they were playing, which grated on me and was quite loud, even though the place was empty. I'd have preferred something more low-key. I'll return for takeaway if ever I'm in Perpignan again.

Our taste buds were delighted with the flavours, great portion and service was polite and quick. Thank you we will be back during our 3 day stay.

I went to eat there yesterday with a friend, and we were treated like family. A super friendly welcome, a beautifully decorated place, very tasteful. Homemade and incredibly fresh dishes at a more than reasonable price. We'll be back very soon! Thank you!!!

I have very mixed feelings about this restaurant. I only tried the chicken ramen and the mochi. The mochi were excellent; the sesame one was superb, as was the ice cream. However, the ramen… it was just chicken soup with a thigh and a hard-boiled egg. For me, it simply wasn't ramen. I would have liked to try the other dishes, but I don't think I'll be going back, which is a shame.
Sandra Farines-Plujat★★★★★
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An excellent discovery in Perpignan! The Japanese cuisine is truly masterful, full of flavor, and prepared with great care. Having tasted everything on the menu, I can give a special mention to the salmon tartare, which was incredibly tender—a real treat. It even made me appreciate wakame seaweed, which I don't usually like! Having tried everything on the menu, everything was truly delicious. You can immediately taste the quality of the ingredients and the work behind each dish. Special mention to the owner, who often manages everything single-handedly with impressive energy and professionalism. The welcome is warm, attentive, and genuine; you immediately feel at ease. A truly 5-star service from beginning to end. I highly recommend it!

We arrived with a baby just to drink something. They told we can’t go inside (it was half empty) but they would serve us outside in the sun (with a baby!). We managed to give the baby some shade but the waiters never showed up ignoring us completely. We left after ten minutes going to another place. We were shocked of the treatment they gave us in this place. That’s not how to treat people especially with a little baby.
Claudia Wohiren★★★★☆
Everyone here is super nice and welcoming and food & drinks were top notch, as usual. The only curiosity is that champagne is served in regular wine glasses .... but well 🙂
Suzanne Salmon★★★☆☆
Having dined at Chez Christopher previously we were excited to visit again whilst visiting Perpignan but we were disappointed this time. We reserved a table but when we arrived nobody asked our name so obviously they weren’t expecting the restaurant to be busy. Last time we visited the place was super busy with people queuing to get in! This time there were few diners and no atmosphere at all. The food was ok but I ordered steak and anything extra had to be paid for on top. The service was quite poor, with very little interest in us from the waiting staff. Basically they seemed more interested in take aways, with either people coming in to collect their own orders or delivery people collecting for people who had ordered online (I presume). We are moving to Perpignan soon but we won’t be returning to this restaurant in a hurry.

A unique and special little restaurant with a really interesting decor. We tried two types of ramen and we have to say that Tokyo chashu ramen du chef with pork is better then chicken, believe me 🙂 The prices are decent, water is waiting for you in the standard French way, they only have two desserts on the table but the creme de yuzu one is better 😉 We definitely recommend this restaurant if you want to eat authentic Ramen in a pleasant atmosphere
Mo Ali★★★★★
We were here for a quick lunch. The Ramen, the gyoza and the mochi were good !
Joel Kornweitz★★☆☆☆
The ramen was ok minus. The rice was mushy. It affected the taste. No salt was used. I added it. Had to add lots of soy sauce in order to finish the dish, which I did. Ramen classic 13€ Rice bowl 3€ Coke in a can 4€ Chairs are made of wooden boards on top of the plastic beer box. It's not a problem, but you wouldn't expect that from a fine restaurant. Well, it's ok. No Japanese people on stuff. Music is very annoying.
Luca Troisi★★★★★
Good ramen in a nice atmosphere. Even though it was crowded it wasn't noisy. Nori and egg do not come in the basic dressing of the ramen.
Fiona F★★★☆☆
Decoration with many cute small Japanese elements, service friendly. Food amount big, taste so-so. Chashu was in weird cube, fried chicken steak extremely greasy yet not crispy. Am happy that there is a ramen restaurant in perpignan, but I also believe that there is big room for taste improvement.

Essential Tips for Choosing Great Sushi in Perpignan

Navigating a menu of maki, nigiri, and sashimi can be overwhelming, especially when you are looking for a meal that is both delicious and safe. While the restaurants listed above have been vetted for quality, understanding what separates a great sushi restaurant from a mediocre one will enhance your dining experience. Here are some practical tips to keep in mind before you place your order.

1. Check the Rice Temperature and Texture

The foundation of all great sushi is the rice, known as "shari." It should be slightly warm or at room temperature, never ice-cold from a refrigerator. The grains should be distinct but sticky enough to hold together. If the rice is mushy, dry, or too vinegary, it will ruin even the freshest fish.

2. Prioritize Local and Seasonal Fish

While tuna and salmon are staples, ask your server about the "catch of the day" or seasonal specialties. Perpignan’s proximity to the Mediterranean means that local sea bream, sea bass, and mackerel can be incredibly fresh. A chef who features local fish demonstrates a commitment to quality and adaptability.

3. Observe the Sashimi Color and Cut

High-quality fish should look vibrant and glossy, never dull, dry, or overly wet. The slices should be clean and uniform, cut against the grain. If the fish looks mushy or has a rainbow sheen, it is likely past its prime. Trust your eyes before you trust your chopsticks.

4. Be Wary of "All-You-Can-Eat" Menus

While "mangez à volonté" (all-you-can-eat) options are popular in France for their value, they often compromise on fish quality and rice-to-fish ratios. These menus are usually filled with heavy rice rolls to fill you up quickly. For a true sushi experience in Perpignan, opting for à la carte or a fixed menu at a specialty restaurant is usually the better choice.

5. Look for Real Wasabi or High-Quality Paste

Most restaurants in Europe serve colored horseradish paste instead of real wasabi root, which is expensive and perishable. However, a high-quality establishment will at least use a paste that has a fresh, sharp heat without a chemical aftertaste. If the "wasabi" is a neon green blob that tastes purely of mustard, it is a sign of cost-cutting elsewhere in the kitchen.

6. Consider the Timing of Your Visit

For the freshest possible fish, avoid dining very late at night or immediately after a major holiday. Fish deliveries in Perpignan typically arrive early in the week. Dining on a Thursday or Friday evening often means the restaurant has had a fresh delivery that morning, whereas a Monday night meal might feature fish that has been held over from the weekend.

Perpignan’s sushi scene is a delightful blend of French culinary standards and Japanese precision. The best restaurants in this city understand that sushi is not just about raw fish; it is about the harmony of temperature, texture, and taste. By choosing a spot from our curated list and applying these tips, you are setting yourself up for a meal that respects both the ingredients and the tradition behind them.

Whether you are grabbing a quick bento box before catching a train or settling in for a long, leisurely dinner in the old town, there is a sushi spot waiting for you. Bon appétit, or as they say in Japan, itadakimasu.
