Perpignan sits in the sunny south of France, where French technique meets Catalan fire. This unique cultural blend is perhaps most deliciously expressed in the city’s pizza scene, which ranges from strict Neapolitan purists to creative Franco-Catalan hybrids. Whether you are wandering the palm-lined promenades or exploring the medieval streets of the old town, you are never far from a bubbling wood-fired oven.
The local climate encourages al fresco dining for most of the year, making pizza a perfect casual meal. Many restaurants here source their flour from Italy, their anchovies from nearby Collioure, and their vegetables from the fertile Roussillon plains. This commitment to local sourcing means the pizzas often carry a distinct sense of place that you will not find elsewhere in France.
For visitors and locals alike, choosing where to eat can be overwhelming given the sheer density of options. Some spots focus on a thin, crispy Roman-style base, while others champion the soft, pillowy crust of Naples. Understanding what you are craving—whether it is a classic Margherita or something topped with local goat cheese and honey—will help guide your choice.
Price points vary dramatically, from quick slice counters perfect for a lunch on the go to elegant trattorias suited for a long, wine-fueled dinner. Many of the best establishments are family-run, with recipes passed down through generations of Italian immigrants who settled in this region decades ago. Their stories are baked into every crust.
Reservations are strongly recommended for the more popular addresses, especially on weekends and during the summer tourist rush. Perpignan’s dining culture is relaxed but punctual; most kitchens close between lunch and dinner service, so checking opening hours is essential to avoid disappointment. A little planning goes a long way here.
Below is a curated guide to the most consistently excellent pizza addresses in Perpignan, based on ingredient quality, dough fermentation, oven technique, and overall atmosphere.

The pizza was very good, my only comment is that they added the meat on my pizza after cutting it so I had to recut it with a knife. However they did provide me with a fork and knife! The service was amazing and overall I had a good experience.

It is a family pizzeria and restaurant, near Auchan in Perpignan, about 1,3km.
Being by car I made a good choice to come here for lunch.
The restaurant is clean and well maintained. There are many option to eat. Service is quick, prompt, efficient and personised. It was the first time seeing 1/2 pizza served with salad on the other half of plate, which was cool for me.
I ordered pizza, the taste was good, more than I expected.
If you are in a hurry they will not loose your time.
I recommend it.

The service and hospitality here is like all Perpignan, friendly and you feel like family on entering. The dough of my pizza here was under seasoned. I am a non smoker so I do not know how Catalans and French cope with so little salt. The Cote Rose was 13€ and better than every wine I had in Europe so far. Thank you for a fantastic meal; I would recommend it.

The pizza was good, owner is very friendly, the restaurant is nice and clean, totally recommend it. There is a car park just right in the front! Desserts are good too😋

Very nice freshly prepared pizza, base towards the thinner side and toppings more than ample but not so much you couldn’t pick up a slice, well recommended. A bit tricky to find the restaurant, but well worth the effort.

Living nearby, I visit nearly every week for a pizza-fix! Made with fresh products, and a smile from the chef - great. Their desserts are not bad either....

We came here for lunch. We ordered the Arancini trio, Fried artichokes, Mortadella salad and the Pinza Reina.
Overall it was good. A few things that could be improved, less salt on the artichokes, it was overwhelmingly salted . The arancini trio was supposed to be Ragu, truffle and Cacio e Pepe . We didn’t get the ragu one, and weren’t told about it. It was perfectly cooked though, a side of marinara sauce would have been nice to accompany it.
The arugula salad and pinza were tasty although, I didn’t get a side of focaccia as listed on the menu.

We arrived to Perpignan just to stop for lunch and luckily we found this place. Really good food and excellent choices.

The best tasting pizza, very friendly staff and super clean facilities. We had just arrived from England with no idea what to do or where to eat, chose this place and really glad we did as the food was so delicious. Proper traditional pizzas the flavors were exceptional and the base perfect. The guy serving spoke fabulous English recommended us on where to go during our stay and gave us a booklet of current local events. Definitely recommend - we went with a pensioner and our toddler and the facilities were fine for us

Just arrived in Perpignan from Birmingham. Ordered a Queen pizza and it was large, tasty and had a fabulous amount of ham, mozzarella and mushrooms, which were juicy and very tasty. A fulfilling meal, which was accompanied by a large, ice cold bottle of water. The price was cheap for city standards and the staff member was so pleasant and polite. Even helped me with suggestions for the rest of my break here, thank you! Highly recommend!
Simon Copson★★★★☆
Wandered about looking for something that we fancied for dinner. Big fans of pizza but almost crossed the road as thought this was just a takeaway. Glad my wife noticed the tables.
Not the prettiest of places to sit and eat as on a busy main road. Our server was great and spoke great English (much better than our French), and was able to explain the menu to us. We were certainly not expecting the pizza to be as good as they were and was much better than recent pizzas we have had both recently in Avignon and back in the UK at Italian restaurants. Fantastic crust and lots of toppings. If you want a great pizza that won’t break the bank then can highly recommend

(to preface, I do not speak much French, but got by)
We went for 2 pizzas, a Carbonara (cheese, egg, bacon and parmesan) and a Mimosa (cheese, ham and corn). Whilst we had communication issues (again from not speaking much French), the man running the pizzeria did repeat back our order, that being a Carbonara and a Mimosa pizza.
When we got back to our hotel and opened them, we instead found what looks like a Ortolana and one that does not seem to match any option on the menu. I have attached images to show what we received instead. As shown, they do not match the description of the pizzas we ordered.
We did eat them in the end, as we had no other option at this point, and my partner has said that it hurts their stomach, as well as that the pizza with onions on tastes overwhelmingly so, while the one with mushrooms (the Ortolana?) being spongy and chewy.
I would definitely not recommended this pizzeria.

Two wonderful pizzas; prosciutto and caprina (with goat's cheese and honey). Very high quality ingredients and a great, crispy dough. Limited space to eat inside, so go early to score a table. Staff were great; very attentive and speedy.

Ordered a veggie pizza without cheese for a vegan option but it had (accidentally, I hope) had a small amount of cheese on it and one piece of Ham! Really careless and potentially dangerous for someone with an intolerance. Also this place has no toilets which is an issue!

Tips for Enjoying Pizza in Perpignan
To make the most of your culinary exploration, it helps to understand a few local dining customs and practical details. These insights will help you eat like a local, avoid common tourist pitfalls, and appreciate the craftsmanship behind each pizza you order.
- Embrace the local anchovy tradition. Perpignan is close to Collioure, famous for its anchovies. Do not hesitate to order a pizza with anchois; the local version is far fresher and less salty than the tinned variety you may be used to.
- Check for wood-fired ovens. The charred, blistered crust from a wood fire is the hallmark of a great pizza. If you walk past a restaurant and smell the wood smoke, you are usually in for a treat.
- Respect French dining hours. Most pizzerias do not open for dinner until 7:00 PM or 7:30 PM, and lunch service often ends by 2:00 PM. Plan your day around these hours to avoid finding closed kitchens.
- Ask about the flour. The best pizzerias use high-protein Italian flour, often type "00" or a blend, which has been fermented slowly for 24 to 48 hours. This makes the dough more digestible and gives it a superior texture.
- Share a starter. While the pizza is the star, many Perpignan pizzerias offer excellent antipasti, burrata, or local charcuterie. Sharing a starter is a great way to extend the meal and sample more of the region’s produce.
- Pair with local wine. Skip the imported soda and try a glass of Côtes du Roussillon red or a crisp local rosé. The wines from this region are robust enough to stand up to rich tomato sauces and spicy salami.
The pizza scene in Perpignan is a testament to the city’s open-minded, Mediterranean character. It is a place where old-world Italian tradition is respected but also playfully adapted to suit the local Catalan palate. Whether you are grabbing a quick slice before catching a train or settling in for a leisurely evening under the plane trees, the city offers a pizza for every mood and moment.
Exploring these pizzerias is more than just eating; it is a way to connect with the local rhythm of life. Take your time, chat with the pizzaiolos, and savor the simple, profound pleasure of dough, fire, and excellent ingredients.
