12 Best Japanese Restaurants in Perpignan

Perpignan sits at a sun-drenched crossroads where French Catalan culture meets the Mediterranean, creating a dining scene that is both proudly local and surprisingly international. While the city is famous for its anchovies, hearty stews, and sweet Muscat wines, a quiet culinary revolution has been unfolding in its narrow medieval streets. Japanese cuisine, with its precision, freshness, and artful presentation, has found a particularly welcoming home here.

The appeal of Japanese food in Perpignan goes far beyond the ubiquitous sushi roll. Diners are increasingly seeking out authentic ramen broths that simmer for hours, delicate tempura with a featherlight crunch, and yakitori grilled over binchotan charcoal. The city’s proximity to the Mediterranean means that many Japanese chefs have access to exceptional local seafood, which they blend seamlessly with imported Japanese ingredients.

For locals and visitors alike, choosing where to eat can feel overwhelming when so many storefronts advertise Japanese fare. The difference between a forgettable meal and a memorable one often comes down to the chef’s training, the quality of the rice, and the respect for traditional techniques. That is why we have done the legwork for you, evaluating kitchens based on authenticity, ingredient sourcing, and consistency.

This guide is designed to help you navigate the best Japanese dining experiences Perpignan has to offer, whether you are looking for a quick lunchtime donburi or an elegant omakase dinner. We have focused on establishments that prioritize genuine flavors over fusion shortcuts, ensuring that every recommendation delivers real value. You will find options for every budget and occasion, from casual noodle bars to refined dining rooms.

We have also considered practical details that matter to diners, such as location, atmosphere, and service style. Perpignan is a compact city, and most of these restaurants are easily reachable on foot from the historic center or the train station. Whether you are a resident or a traveler exploring the Pyrénées-Orientales, these addresses are worth seeking out.

Below, you will find our curated selection of the twelve best Japanese restaurants in Perpignan. Each entry has been chosen for its commitment to quality and its ability to deliver a truly satisfying Japanese meal. Use this list as your starting point for discovering the city’s most compelling Japanese tables.

Very good atmosphere and delicious 😋 foods. I'm very satisfied with it. And reasonable price. I went to there for a lunch. It was easy and nice to choose menu with photos. I want to try sake there next time. I highly recommend.

Nice welcome. Friendly. Small place. I don’t find the seating cozy, it’s functional. If there’s a loud group, it can overtake the room. Simple menu and reasonable prices. It was fine, but I didn’t realize the gyu no tataki is served cold so it wasn’t super enjoyable. Nice desert of mascorpone

Incredible! Fantastic! Me and my girlfriend are so happy for discovering this place, makes it worth coming back to Perpignan. This small restaurant made us a trip to the best of japan with its food quality and taste, as well as the good ambient and decoration. Thank you and à bientôt.
CJ H★★★★☆
Efficiently run (solo plus cook) small Asian theme eatery. I wouldn’t name it as ‘Japanese’ exactly but a fusion theme. The menu is limited. For France the cost was ok.

Yori Izakaya in Perpignan is a true hidden gem for anyone who appreciates authentic Japanese cuisine without compromise. From the moment you step inside, you can feel the atmosphere of a genuine izakaya bar — intimate, warm, and relaxed, yet clearly focused on detail. The interior is modern with a distinct Japanese touch, and the ambiance is ideal both for a romantic dinner and for gathering with friends. The food is the reason you come back. The sushi is fresh, precise, and well-balanced — the rice perfectly prepared, the fish high quality and clean in flavor. The hot dishes, especially Izakaya specialties, Soba, and Donburi, demonstrate a serious level of culinary discipline. The flavors are deep but never overpowering; everything is harmonious and thoughtfully crafted. Portions are fair, and the presentation is neat and visually very appealing. The staff is professional, efficient, and friendly, without unnecessary formality. It’s clear they know what they’re doing and understand the menu — ready to recommend a dish or drink that truly complements your choice. In terms of price, Yori Izakaya offers excellent value for money. This is not fast-food sushi, but a serious restaurant that consistently maintains high quality. In conclusion: if you are in Perpignan and looking for an authentic Japanese experience with character, Yori Izakaya is well worth a visit — once you discover it, you will very likely return.

Yori Izakaya is a fantastic spot for Japanese cuisine lovers in Perpignan. The atmosphere is cozy and modern, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the sushi is fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The menu offers great variety, making it perfect for a dinner with friends or a romantic night out. Highly recommended!

Spectacular and very much authentic. Menu is varied with choices well beyond Sushis. Though they are sooo yummy! Better give a call to book as it is a very popular and affordable place.

We drove almost an hour and a half to try this well-reviewed restaurant and were disappointed. We arrived at noon, the waiter asked us to order quickly, we ordered a few meals, the portion was very big but almost all tasted the same, and the tempura was not good . The service is not friendly, it feels like you have to eat quickly and they are going to call it a day. 😞

Pretty good. Generous miso soup and they bring it out right away. Chicken kaarage I enjoyed a lot. Tempura ok but not impressive. We will come back.

A unique and special little restaurant with a really interesting decor. We tried two types of ramen and we have to say that Tokyo chashu ramen du chef with pork is better then chicken, believe me 🙂 The prices are decent, water is waiting for you in the standard French way, they only have two desserts on the table but the creme de yuzu one is better 😉 We definitely recommend this restaurant if you want to eat authentic Ramen in a pleasant atmosphere
Mo Ali★★★★★
We were here for a quick lunch. The Ramen, the gyoza and the mochi were good !
Joel Kornweitz★★☆☆☆
The ramen was ok minus. The rice was mushy. It affected the taste. No salt was used. I added it. Had to add lots of soy sauce in order to finish the dish, which I did. Ramen classic 13€ Rice bowl 3€ Coke in a can 4€ Chairs are made of wooden boards on top of the plastic beer box. It's not a problem, but you wouldn't expect that from a fine restaurant. Well, it's ok. No Japanese people on stuff. Music is very annoying.
Luca Troisi★★★★★
Good ramen in a nice atmosphere. Even though it was crowded it wasn't noisy. Nori and egg do not come in the basic dressing of the ramen.
Fiona F★★★☆☆
Decoration with many cute small Japanese elements, service friendly. Food amount big, taste so-so. Chashu was in weird cube, fried chicken steak extremely greasy yet not crispy. Am happy that there is a ramen restaurant in perpignan, but I also believe that there is big room for taste improvement.

Fantastic place! It's by far my favorite sushi. They're prepared right in front of you, the atmosphere is super friendly, and the food is quick. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The platter we ordered was the most expensive, but the prices are still reasonable for such high-quality sushi.

I went to eat there yesterday with a friend, and we were treated like family. A super friendly welcome, a beautifully decorated place, very tasteful. Homemade and incredibly fresh dishes at a more than reasonable price. We'll be back very soon! Thank you!!!
Stéphanie S★★☆☆☆
I have very mixed feelings about this restaurant. I only tried the chicken ramen and the mochi. The mochi were excellent; the sesame one was superb, as was the ice cream. However, the ramen… it was just chicken soup with a thigh and a hard-boiled egg. For me, it simply wasn't ramen. I would have liked to try the other dishes, but I don't think I'll be going back, which is a shame.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An excellent discovery in Perpignan! The Japanese cuisine is truly masterful, full of flavor, and prepared with great care. Having tasted everything on the menu, I can give a special mention to the salmon tartare, which was incredibly tender—a real treat. It even made me appreciate wakame seaweed, which I don't usually like! Having tried everything on the menu, everything was truly delicious. You can immediately taste the quality of the ingredients and the work behind each dish. Special mention to the owner, who often manages everything single-handedly with impressive energy and professionalism. The welcome is warm, attentive, and genuine; you immediately feel at ease. A truly 5-star service from beginning to end. I highly recommend it!

Great restaurant offering fusion dishes. The interior decoration is clean, cozy and elegant, perfect for couples and family. The food was delicious and the portions were perfect for sharing. The wine selection was also great. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and they gave us amazing recommendations. The prices were a bit high, but we felt that we received good value for it. Overall, I think the quality of service was great.

Absolutely brilliant restaurant! Creative menu, cooked to perfection and fabulously presented, we would certainly be regulars if we were living in the area. We loved the open space kitchen and deco, and were impressed with the friendliness of the whole team. Thank you for providing us with a unique experience! We wish you all the best.
Govind Dhar★★★☆☆
I feel bad for not loving Manat the way everyone else does but maybe its just me. The dishes all seemed too chunky and lacking the sort of delicate touch I imagine would elevate the dishes. My starter of a terrine of pork seemed underseasoned and lacking any flavour I could discern. The second course of veal tataki was delicious with the savoury seaweed flakes but again was a bit heavily reliant on the kewpie tasting sauce. The dessert was disappointing: a cherry and chocolate sauce sandwich in choux. The cherries seemed pitted and placed with nothing done to them in the choux, so the dish came off as something not as elevated as one might get traveling patisseries in this part of France. The chocolate sauce was excellent though. Overall I wish Manat would zero in on the flavours and textures of the dishes I tried so they really sing. The space is beautiful. The chefs quite serious in their work, but something feels to be missing in the food. Again, maybe just me so please dont take this personally. I hope you guys get those stars. Best of luck.
Andrew l★★★★★
I really loved the setting and décor. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the wine selection was great. Every dish had something unique and creative about it, which made the meal really enjoyable. The only downside was that the service was a bit slow. There were long gaps between courses, and I noticed other tables looking a bit restless too. Still, I had a great time overall and would definitely recommend trying their dishes. It’s a great spot for good food and a relaxed night out.

A nice little Asian restaurant with quality food. The ramen was great, the crispy chicken with rice and carrot and potato sauce was fantastic. The waitress was kind and patient with us 🙂 We think they should have another employee because the waitress herself was overwhelmed when people started coming in larger numbers. Still, we definitely recommend it!

I heard the Lanzhou noodles at this restaurant are very authentic, so while traveling in Peplirion from Germany, I made a special trip to try them. The taste is indeed genuine! And the Chicken Teriyaki is the best one I have ever eaten in France!!! The restaurant's decor is especially cozy and attractive, and the service is incredibly warm and friendly. Highly recommended!

The owner was lovely and very helpful. Very generous portions and full of flavour. Nice overall experience We had the Souleater burger, Zenitsu Burger, waffle fries and Tempura veg (which was delicious). A lot of food for two hungry people.
Garrett Schlake★★★★★
Great, passionate chef/owner who really cares about his food and customers! The flavors were great, though my chicken was a bit on the dry side. There was a lot of variety without things being too out of hand and I felt everything was well balanced. The portions were also quite generous with what seem to be quality ingredients. You can tell he is humble and takes feedback well, so I hope he continues to do so and grow! I would recommend he maybe trims/staples the table covers better to fit the size of the tables and maybe get a couple higher stools to sit on (shorter people may not feel super comfortable reaching the table) Overall great experience and I would highly recommend! God bless!

very original concept (for both the menu and the place), loved it. must also try the fries. also option to replace chicken with cauliflower. not much space to dine in

A very nice small and cute burger joint, slightly off the beaten path but well worth it especially when prices go up during tourist season. Delighted to be the 50th 5 star review. Fully deserving. Delicious. Inventive. Osaka comes to Perpignan - and each dish seemed to have particular ingredients very specifically sourced - the citrus, the almonds, the onions! Really superb service, warm and welcoming. Pretty impressive that this seems to be a 2 person team. Set menu only on the night we were there. Balanced portions. Great wine selection. Try it before they get a star.

Amazing food - thoughtfully designed menu, clearly created by people with real passion for local produce. I am gluten free and they sourced special (delicious) bread and adapted a dessert for me especially. An all round excellent experience

An exceptional Japanese restaurant where every detail matters. At Manenakàne, the cuisine reaches that rare level where precision becomes a signature. Dishes arrive cooked to perfection, perfectly executed, precise, and flawlessly controlled—an accuracy that cannot be improvised and reveals a true understanding of the ingredients. The service is discreet, almost silent, yet always present at the right moment: a level of attentiveness reminiscent of the finest establishments. The remarkably curated wine list surprises with its coherence and boldness. Discreet choices, designed to complement the finesse of the dishes without ever overpowering them. Manenakàne is one of those restaurants you don't just visit; you return. A place to discover… and revisit.

We'd passed by and noticed the menu earlier in the day and went back for dinner since there were good veggie options. The waiter was really friendly and helpful with our ordering and we sat back with a rose wine and Tibetan beer while our selection of mixed momos was cooked. These were delicious and the hot sauce was indeed inferno level but added a cheeky little something! I went with a veggie chow mein and mum the beef. Portions were huge and I couldn't finish it all. I wished I'd have asked to have it boxed for later. As we ate we saw the chef hard at work making the noodles by hand - amazing!! As we paid we were given a little gift that will serve as a lovely memory of a great meal in Perpignan!

Essential Tips for Choosing a Great Japanese Restaurant in Perpignan

Before you make a reservation or walk through the door, it helps to know what separates a truly excellent Japanese restaurant from a merely average one. In a city with a growing number of options, these practical tips will help you order with confidence and appreciate the nuances of the cuisine. Keep these points in mind to ensure you get the best possible experience for your time and money.

1. Look beyond the sushi menu. A restaurant that only offers standard salmon and tuna rolls may be playing it safe rather than showcasing real Japanese cooking. Seek out places that serve ramen, udon, katsudon, or grilled skewers. A diverse menu that changes with the seasons is a strong indicator that the kitchen is run by someone who respects Japanese culinary traditions.

2. Check the rice quality. In Japanese cuisine, rice is never an afterthought. The best restaurants use short-grain Japanese rice that is properly washed, cooked, and seasoned with a balanced vinegar mixture. If the rice is mushy, dry, or served cold, the rest of the meal is likely to disappoint. Ask the staff what type of rice they use if you are unsure.

3. Observe the fish sourcing. Perpignan’s coastal location means that local fish like sea bream, mackerel, and sardines can be excellent when handled correctly. A good Japanese chef will tell you which fish arrived fresh that morning and may even offer a daily special board. Be wary of restaurants that rely exclusively on frozen, pre-sliced fish for every dish.

4. Pay attention to the small details. Authentic Japanese dining is built on subtle touches: a properly brewed cup of green tea, freshly grated wasabi instead of paste, and pickled ginger that is pale rather than artificially pink. These details may seem minor, but they reveal the level of care the kitchen puts into every element of your meal.

5. Consider the atmosphere and pace. Japanese dining is meant to be savored, not rushed. Look for restaurants that offer a calm, clean environment where you can enjoy your food at a relaxed pace. If a place feels like a fast-food outlet with loud music and hurried service, the food is unlikely to be prepared with the patience that Japanese cooking demands.

Perpignan’s Japanese food scene is more than just a trend; it is a reflection of the city’s openness to global flavors while maintaining a deep respect for ingredients. Whether you are in the mood for a steaming bowl of ramen on a cool evening or a delicate selection of nigiri on a sunny terrace, there is a table waiting for you. The restaurants on our list each bring something unique to the table, from family-run noodle shops to sleek sushi counters.

As you explore these addresses, remember that the best meal is the one that matches your mood and curiosity. Do not be afraid to ask questions, try a dish you have never eaten before, or sit at the counter to watch the chefs at work. In Perpignan, Japanese cuisine has found a second home, and these twelve restaurants are leading the way with skill, passion, and a genuine love for the craft.
