Perpignan sits at a sun-drenched crossroads where French Catalan culture meets the Mediterranean coast. This unique geography shapes a food scene that is bold, colorful, and deeply tied to the land. While the city is famous for its tapas bars and sweet Muscat wines, its Italian dining scene offers a remarkable depth of flavor.
Over the years, a wave of passionate restaurateurs has brought authentic regional Italian cooking to the heart of Catalan country. These are not just pizzerias churning out tourist fare. They are establishments run by families who import specific flours, cure their own meats, and treat olive oil with the reverence it deserves.
The proximity to the Spanish border means ingredients like Iberian ham often appear alongside Sicilian capers or Calabrian chili. This creates a fascinating fusion where wood-fired pizzas share the table with anchovies from Collioure. The result is an Italian dining landscape that feels distinctly Perpignan.
From bustling brasseries near the Castillet to quiet trattorias tucked into the old town’s winding alleys, there is a table for every occasion. You might find a perfectly blistered Neapolitan crust just a stone’s throw from the Palace of the Kings of Majorca. Or you could stumble upon a handmade pasta dish that rivals anything found in Bologna.
This guide focuses on quality, authenticity, and consistency. We have considered not just the food, but the atmosphere, the sourcing of ingredients, and the warmth of the welcome. Whether you are a local looking for a new favorite or a visitor eager to taste the city’s Italian soul, these selections represent the very best.
Below, you will find a curated list of the twelve best Italian restaurants in Perpignan. Each entry has been chosen for its commitment to genuine Italian culinary tradition, adapted beautifully to the French Catalan setting.

A wonderful discovery of this Italian restaurant during a business trip.
Easy parking, lovely terrace.
Very warm welcome and service, very clean establishment.
As for the food, I tried the weekly starter and the daily special (cucumber and melon salad) and the peach and burrata bruschetta – both excellent in my opinion. Beautifully presented dishes, seasonal ingredients. Very good value for money.
I highly recommend it. All the best to you.

friendly place and they have enough servers, which is nice for a change. Definitely will come back to try more as it is fairly priced and everything was tasty.

Best tagliatelle alle vongole that I have ever had. The flavour was extremely rich, the freshness of the seafood second to none, and the quantity more than enough. I couldn't fit a dessert after that, although I'm certain they would be just as exquisite as the tagliatelle. Wish I could have the chef at home!
Fergus Treacy★☆☆☆☆
Made a reservation but had to leave after 35 minutes waiting for our order to be taken. Was very much looking forward to trying the food but had enough as we were trying to entertain a toddler. Asked for order to be taken 3 times and told by waitress that she couldn’t take orders. Restaurant was busy but by no means full. Very poor service, avoid if you value your time!
Dylan McPartland★★★★☆
Food was incredibly tasty, good portions and great value, however the service was poor. Waiting a long time for menus, drinks and only 1/3 of wait staff allowed to take orders meaning a long wait for that too. It wasn't even a weekend.

This gem of restaurant is a hidden treasure in Perpignan. This small, friendly, family run restaurant serves a fusion of Sardinian and Italian food made with the freshest ingredients and a lot of love. The service is incredible as is the food. I went to Zayda with my daughter, and what a wonderful surprise!
This Italian restaurant is a real gem. Everything was incredibly delicious, made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. You can tell that each dish is prepared with care, and it makes all the difference.
I also loved the owner, who is incredibly kind. He listens to his customers and takes the time to chat with them. You don't find such a warm welcome everywhere.
The waitress is also very professional, friendly, and efficient.
The place is spotless.
The decor is very stylish, and the open kitchen, impeccably clean, immediately inspires confidence.
And what can I say about the cocktails… a real treat!
In Perpignan, there are actually very few halal restaurants of this quality, with such a well-thought-out concept and a truly authentic Italian identity. It's definitely worth a visit.
We already know we'll be back very soon to try the other specialties that caught our eye.
An excellent place that truly deserves to be known.
No unpleasant surprises here: everything is in place for a wonderful time.
Well done to the whole team! 👍
Damien MESME★★★★☆
A delightful surprise awaits, featuring simple, generous, and beautifully presented Italian cuisine.
The menu is short but sweet: pasta, salads, pizzas… there’s something for everyone. The dishes seem homemade, the service is efficient with little waiting between courses, and the staff is friendly and welcoming.
I highly recommend this place.
The only slight drawback: the restaurant currently doesn’t offer any alcohol—no beer, no wine, no digestifs. It’s a shame, especially since this isn’t mentioned before you’re seated. You only find out once you’re seated. Is this a deliberate choice, or just a temporary situation?
Nevertheless, it remains a very enjoyable discovery.
Lo H★★★★★
What a great find, Le Zayda! The pizzas are absolutely delicious, with a thin, Italian-style crust and a generous size. The welcome and service are top-notch, in a modern atmosphere. A fantastic place, thank you for a lovely dinner, we'll be back to try the rest of the menu 😋

Michaela Cuvin★☆☆☆☆
Really a personal opinion here: the salmon ravioli I ordered tonight didn't taste good, and the ravioli filling looked and tasted more like defrost cod... it was surely a white fish filling, don't understand why they market it as "salmon".
Very slow service overall (it took them more than 1 hour to bring the ravioli dish pictured here)... when I asked them to explain the delay, they said they were very busy... about 10 tables, 25-30 clients at the time for 2 servers...
Very unpleasantly surprised by the bill (l'addition) which came handwritten on a small piece of paper, with 2 lines in French and a figure, the total... not sure what we paid for...
Anyway, in conclusion, if you can, try to consider other restaurants... We actually looked at the Google reviews and the 4.8 rating for this restaurant, but frankly, read the menu before you sit down, which we didn't. Live and learn.
Mel P★★★★★
Possibly some of the best italian food I've ever had! Gnocchi was unbelievable. Atmosphere is also wonderful. I'm not a person that really leaves reviews, but this place was worth the time.
James Murphy★★☆☆☆
Sadly, our experience here was quite disappointing. The service was very slow - we waited around 15 minutes just to receive menus and over an hour for our food. Although the waiter did apologise for the delay, we couldn’t help feeling a bit forgotten, especially as other tables seemed to receive more attention. We were eventually told there had been some confusion with the orders, but from other reviews, it seems this might not be an isolated issue.
The food itself was fine, but not really worth the long wait. The bill also seemed a little off… we paid €51 for two pasta dishes and a bottle of beer, which felt higher than expected. It was also handwritten on a small piece of paper, which made it hard to double-check the prices after such a long wait.
It’s a real shame, as we were looking forward to the meal. Perhaps we just caught them on an off night, but overall we left feeling quite disappointed.
Brian Kelly★★★★★
Small but very interesting menu. The atmosphere was really good, with very helpful service. We were a group of 4, so we had 2 starters and a main course each, topped off with a shared desert, all washed down with a good wine. Well, it's worth a second visit to this really chilled restaurant.
Meike Hunter★★★★★
Best ever! Super cute and quirky restaurant. Must make reservations, as it's super busy. Wine recommendations were awesome. Food was awesome and prepared according to our spice preference (a l'arrabiata). Dessert was delicious. Despite having few staff members and a minuscule kitchen, this place delivers outstanding food with friendly and prompt service at very reasonable prices. 10/10 must go!

We came here for lunch. We ordered the Arancini trio, Fried artichokes, Mortadella salad and the Pinza Reina.
Overall it was good. A few things that could be improved, less salt on the artichokes, it was overwhelmingly salted . The arancini trio was supposed to be Ragu, truffle and Cacio e Pepe . We didn’t get the ragu one, and weren’t told about it. It was perfectly cooked though, a side of marinara sauce would have been nice to accompany it.
The arugula salad and pinza were tasty although, I didn’t get a side of focaccia as listed on the menu.

A restaurant we stumbled upon quite by chance…
My 8 and 10-year-old children were looking for a pasta restaurant during our holiday in Saint Cyprien, so I searched high and low for a gem, and we found it!
Italian cuisine just the way we like it!
Full of quality ingredients and incredibly flavorful!
You can go there without hesitation!
Fresh ingredients at a reasonable price.
Even the kids keep asking for more!
And to top it all off, the owners are very friendly.
Well done, and we hope to return if we're ever in the area again.
I highly recommend it.

A wonderful, authentic Italian restaurant with incredibly friendly owners. The welcome was very warm, and we immediately felt at ease.

A lovely little spot in the heart of Alenya…
Passing through the area, this was a wonderful discovery with authentic Italian flavors…
The dishes are prepared to order with fresh ingredients (the burrata is amazing 😄) and the owners are lovely and attentive…
To top it all off, for dinner on the terrace, the place is calm and relaxing, even on a Saturday night, which we really appreciated 😊
Practical Tips for Choosing the Perfect Italian Meal in Perpignan
Navigating a city with so many strong Italian options can be overwhelming. To help you make the right choice for your specific mood, budget, and schedule, keep these practical considerations in mind. A little planning can transform a simple dinner into an unforgettable experience, especially during the busy summer months when the city fills with tourists.
- Book Ahead on Weekends: Perpignan’s dining culture is vibrant, and the best tables fill up quickly from Thursday through Saturday. A reservation is essential for dinner, especially if you want to sit on a terrace or visit a smaller, family-run spot. Do not rely on walk-ins for popular places near the center.
- Look for “Fatto in Casa”: When scanning menus, look for phrases indicating pasta and desserts are homemade. This is a hallmark of a restaurant that prioritizes quality over convenience. Fresh pasta has a texture and absorbency that dried pasta simply cannot replicate, and it is worth seeking out.
- Embrace the Catalan-Italian Crossover: Do not be surprised to see local anchovies or Pyrenees lamb on an Italian menu. This is not inauthentic; it is the restaurant using the best of their immediate environment. Ordering these crossover dishes often yields the most memorable and unique flavors in Perpignan.
- Check the Pizza Oven: If pizza is your goal, try to get a visual on the oven. A true wood-fired dome oven, often imported from Naples, reaches temperatures that create the perfect char and airy crust. Electric ovens produce a different, often drier result.
- Consider Lunch Menus for Value: Many top-tier Italian restaurants offer a “formule” or set menu at lunchtime. This is the most economical way to experience high-quality cooking, often including an appetizer, a main course, and a coffee for a fraction of the dinner price.
Dining out in Perpignan is about more than just eating; it is about participating in a social ritual that stretches late into the evening. The best Italian restaurants here understand this rhythm, offering spaces where you can linger over an espresso or a glass of limoncello without feeling rushed. The service style may be more relaxed than in Paris, but the passion for food is just as intense.
Ultimately, the perfect meal is the one that matches your appetite. Whether you are craving a simple Margherita after a day at the beach or a complex seafood risotto to celebrate a special occasion, Perpignan’s Italian kitchens are ready to welcome you with open arms and a warm “buon appetito.”
