Lille’s dining scene has long been defined by its Flemish roots, but in recent years, a wave of skilled chefs has turned the city into a genuine destination for Japanese cuisine. From high-end omakase counters to casual neighborhood joints, the range of sushi available here now rivals much larger European capitals. The city’s proximity to the coast also means access to exceptionally fresh fish, which is the foundation of any memorable sushi experience.
Finding the right spot, however, requires looking beyond the generic all-you-can-eat buffets that populate the tourist-heavy areas around Grand Place. The best sushi in Lille is built on precision, quality rice, and respect for seasonal ingredients. Whether you are a local looking for a new regular spot or a visitor wanting a refined meal, knowing where to go makes all the difference.
This guide focuses on establishments that prioritize craftsmanship over convenience. You will find a mix of intimate sushi bars perfect for a quiet dinner and lively spots suited to a quick lunch. Each recommendation has been selected based on ingredient quality, consistency, and the overall dining experience.
We have also considered different budgets and occasions, so you can find the right match whether you are celebrating a special event or simply craving a clean plate of nigiri. The goal is to help you avoid disappointment and discover places that truly represent the best of what Lille has to offer.
Below, you will find a curated selection of twelve standout sushi spots that consistently impress local food lovers. After the list, we have included practical tips to help you order like a regular and get the most out of your meal.

I came to see why this shop has such a high rating, and now I know why: the sushi is delicious, prices are great, and they offer unlimited soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger. Plus, free water, tea, and coffee are available upstairs on the second floor. Highly recommend!

It’s a great value sushi for the price. They’re generous with the size or the sushi pieces and filled with flavor. The miso soup wasn’t great but the sushi was great. Highly suggest trying it for lunch/dinner if you are in the area.

We ate here before and completely forgot about it until we found ourselves returning and loving the experience, once again.
You can order directly at the counter or if you are indecisive, you can order by using the screen. Place looks very clean and the menu has a variety of options.
Not sure if everything is halal as it does not mention it anywhere, nor did I find any stickers but the soy sauce is without alcohol.
The quality is great - we had some salmon, tuna and veggie rolls. The carrot in the veggie roll was a bit too present but if you dont mind a carrot taste, its a good roll!
Would definitely recommend coming here for sushi. Staff is very friendly and noise level is average (unless you have some Spanish groups ;)).

We wanted to sincerely thank you for the warm welcome you gave us during the celebration of our two friends' birthdays. We had an amazing time, and everything was perfect. We are really happy we chose your restaurant for this special occasion. Inshallah, we will come back with great pleasure next time.
Thanks again, and see you soon!

I would not recommend eating at this place as this is not authentic sushi. The restaurant has a non-Japanese chef and the sushi is not good at all. The quality of fish and rice used is poor. The ambience, sauce and cutlery used is not good!
Niraj Ramjiyani★☆☆☆☆
The sushi itself was ok, no ginger with sushi - that's bizarre for a sushi restaurant. The restaurant smelled quite bad.
After entering the restaurant we decided to order just one plate as a trial, we finished it and just left with disappointment.
The staff was friendly.
Overall, a very bad experience for us.

The variety of sushis and sashimis is impressive. They even had shrimps as sashimis, which I had never tried before. We ordered a menu duo and some guiozas as starters. The rice for the sushis could have been better seasoned, though.

They deserve all 5 stars. We ordered a various things from their menu. They were all plated well and tasted amazing. Salmon Aburi, soft-shell crab roll, sashimi was life-changing. This is better than Nobu.

Very nice restaurant and design, amuses are good although from there you go on a downhill, approximative dish, rice not so good, fish average quality, ready made sauces.... sake is good but that’s it. Quite disappointed i should have gone for a proper welsh or local dish...! Sumimasen!

Best onigiri ever rolled anno 2026
Nisrine★★★★★
Honestly, a fantastic discovery, it's absolutely delicious! The quality is consistently excellent, the ingredients are fresh, and you can tell everything is homemade. The flavors blend perfectly, nothing to complain about. I'll definitely be back, I highly recommend it!
cherif ayed★★★★★
I'm a huge onigiri fan, and when I saw this place open in Lille, I had to try it. (Just so you know, it's only a takeaway/delivery location; you can't eat in.)
To start, the karaage chicken was delicious! The onigiri I ordered were:
- The new curry/edamame one.
Pretty good, a little spicy, but I felt the curry flavor wasn't strong enough.
- Marinated kombu.
A great find! It's really good and original.
- Umeboshi plum.
I'm a bit hesitant about this one. I've had them several times before, and they usually have a slightly sweet, salty, and tangy flavor (I'm talking about the ones I've tried, of course). I didn't find that particular taste, so it wasn't my favorite.
The price is very reasonable, assuming the prices don't change in the future, because an onigiri should be worth it. to remain a snack to eat on the go, cheap like in Japan.
Camille★★★★★
A very good experience with quality products and good value for money. The fried chicken is delicious, with nice chunks and perfectly crispy. The bento box is quite generous, containing two pieces of chicken and two onigiri (enough for a meal). I ordered an extra salted plum onigiri out of curiosity, but I already had plenty with the bento; it's an original flavor worth trying. It's a shame the shop isn't easily visible from the street, as it's somewhat hidden on the corner of a building (difficult to find).
Ismahane IDRISSI★★★★★
A fantastic find! I saw a video about it online and I wasn't disappointed. It's really delicious and fresh (I'm actually enjoying it right now). A complete meal for under €10. The fried chicken is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend it!!

Nice place! Good variety of options: sushi, sushi rolls, lots of sets, gyozas, Korean options. We ordered 3 different sushi rolls and gyoza , all dishes were well presented and tasteful. They also had salads, edamame and desserts. For the drinks they offered water, kombucha, juices, wines… very good place to eat lunch if you came late like us as usually restaurants are closed between 3 to 7 pm. Ambience is nice, there is a sitting area on the second floor but there is no lift.

Hi Côté Sushi,
I and my partner have been fans of you for awhile, until today.
We always loved your fusion concept and the quality of your food. Each time we came, we always left satisfied with a belly full of quality food.
Today, we ordered a few dishes to share together for two as usual. The staffs were friendly. The food was quickly prepared as always. But when they arrived, their appearance told me something wasn’t right:
+ The salmon sashimi was pale with a very thin layer of fatty water on the surface that usually only happens for sashimi that has stayed outside for awhile.
+ We also took a set of Côté California. Some rolls has avocado inside and I can spot right away the avocado pieces in dark brown color. The veggies rolls in this set also has avocado sauce on top, and the sauce is really dark. It’s not the first time we take this set, and it’s the color of avocado that has been exposed longtime outside so they got oxidized and darken. Really I’ve never seen sushi that served with such kind of quality so far especially in France and it just really put me off from eating.
So we decided to eat them anyway and another surprise came. These rolls were so cold and dried that shouldn’t be at all the case for freshly made sushi. To be honest I feel quite offensive to be served with the meal we got today. I don’t know if it’s a set that has been left over from your lunch time today, or even the previous days that you didn’t manage to sell. And the sashimi, just as I expected from the look, wasn’t fresh at all that I was even afraid I could get sick from it. They were soft, pale with the taste of unfresh fish.
Also, among all of the dishes that we ordered, none of them came with any piece of wasabi. So we had to ask the staff to give us some, and then what arrived is a generous bowl in quantity of wasabi but not at all the kind of quality we used to have. Usually it’s the thick paste of wasabi in a lively green color that has a distinct taste of wasabi even just from a little pinch. The one today is a watery paste in a pale green that barely has any taste. Really we don’t expect any of that especially for the price that we paid.
Honestly I don’t know what happens with your operation and if you are trying to cut cost but if this keeps being the case, I think you might loose more of your loyal customers.
I rarely give reviews especially such harsh one but honestly, we were both deeply disappointed today and I’m not sure we will come back in the future. I know you probably would just ignore my review. But I hope it gives you some insight to bring back the food quality that you used to have.

I came here to eat a poke bowl for lunch and enjoyed it so much that I came back to have it again plus some sushi.
Both times I was served by Theo who was very friendly and gave really good service despite me not knowing any French. When I came the first time I asked what was the difference between the regular and the large size and without me asking, he went to grab both bowls so I could see the difference.
The quality of the food seems really high, the salmon seemed fresh and were quite large pieces. The overall flavour was great and both times I was provided plenty of soya sauce, ginger amd wasabi, the chopsticks even feel nice quality compared to my usual chopsticks at a fast food restuarant.
I would highly reccomend this place and thank you to Theo for providing great service to a foreigner who can't speak any French. Merci!

First impression about the place was nice. Nice menu and good interior. Like in most modern places menu you can get with QR code on table. Disappointing started after order. We didn’t get any notification to email or via sms. When we got our order at the table most of the food didn’t look like from menu pictures. Usually it’s ok, but when the prices are quite high it’s not ok at all. For example i added a picture from what we got and menu picture. Guacamole didn’t taste as guacamole at all. Also they forgot to bring ordered drinks. Most edible from our order was fried tempura shirmps. One star for interior design, shrimps and nicely opened door at our table 🙂

This was our second time having lunch here, and once again, we had a great experience. The bento menu changes regularly, so each visit offers something new. The staff are friendly and warmly welcomed us both times.
The udon was slightly sweet for my taste, but still enjoyable. The pork okonomiyaki we had on our previous visit was delicious, and the bentos have consistently been good with many side dishes. Portion sizes are generous, making it great value for the quality and quantity of food.

I highly recommend this place! You won't be disappointed with the fast service provided by friendly people who prepare a homemade meal right in front of you. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back for such an affordable price!
Tips for Enjoying the Best Sushi in Lille
A great sushi meal is about more than just choosing the right restaurant. Small decisions about timing, ordering, and etiquette can significantly elevate your experience. By understanding a few local habits and sushi fundamentals, you can ensure that every visit is as satisfying as possible.
Book ahead for dinner, especially on weekends. Many of Lille’s top sushi counters are small and fill up quickly. A reservation not only guarantees you a seat but often gives the chef time to prepare special ingredients.
Sit at the counter if you can. Watching the chef work is part of the experience. It also means your nigiri goes from hand to plate in seconds, preserving the ideal temperature and texture of the rice.
Order omakase when available. Trusting the chef’s selection is the best way to taste what is freshest that day. It also shows respect for the kitchen and often includes items not listed on the regular menu.
Eat nigiri in one bite and with your hands. While chopsticks are fine, using your fingers is traditional and prevents the rice from falling apart. Eat each piece as soon as it is served to enjoy the contrast between cool fish and warm rice.
Go easy on the soy sauce. High-quality sushi is already seasoned by the chef. Dip only the fish side lightly, never the rice, and avoid drowning delicate white fish in sauce.
Ask what is local and seasonal. The best chefs in Lille often incorporate fish from the nearby North Sea or seasonal European catches. Asking about specials can lead to a more unique and sustainable meal.
Respect the lunch rush. Many top spots offer excellent lunch sets at a lower price. Arrive early or late to avoid the midday crowd and enjoy a calmer, more attentive service.
Taking the time to explore Lille’s sushi scene with these habits in mind will transform a simple meal into a deeper appreciation of Japanese culinary craft. The city’s best chefs are constantly refining their techniques and sourcing better ingredients, which means there is always something new to discover.
Whether you are a longtime sushi lover or just beginning to explore raw fish, Lille offers a surprisingly rich landscape of options. Use this guide as a starting point, ask questions, and let your curiosity lead you to your own favorite counter.
