12 Best Sushi Spots in Annecy

Nestled against the shores of a crystal-clear alpine lake and framed by the peaks of the French Alps, Annecy is a destination that captivates the eyes and the palate. While the "Venice of the Alps" is famous for its canals and cobblestone streets, the city has quietly cultivated a vibrant dining scene that rivals much larger French metropolises. For food lovers, the question is rarely whether to eat out, but where to find the most authentic flavors.

Japanese cuisine has found a particularly passionate following in this Savoyard town. Despite being hundreds of miles from the ocean, Annecy benefits from daily deliveries of fresh fish and a community of chefs dedicated to precision and artistry. Whether you are craving delicate nigiri, hearty ramen, or creative fusion rolls, the local sushi landscape offers something for every taste and budget.

Finding a truly great sushi spot requires looking beyond the tourist-heavy thoroughfares near the Palais de l’Isle. The best establishments balance the freshness of their ingredients with the skill of their rice preparation, a detail that often separates an average meal from an unforgettable one. From intimate omakase counters to lively family-run bistros, Annecy’s sushi scene is surprisingly diverse.

This guide is designed to help you navigate the top options in the city, whether you are a local looking for a new regular haunt or a visitor wanting a break from cheese fondue. We have considered not only the quality of the fish but also the atmosphere, value, and consistency of service. The goal is to ensure that your next sushi craving is met with a meal that respects the traditions of Japanese cooking while embracing the fresh, alpine spirit of the region.

Before you dive into the list, remember that reservation policies can vary greatly depending on the season. During the summer months and the famous Annecy International Animation Film Festival, tables fill up quickly. Planning ahead is essential if you want to secure a seat at the counter of the city’s most sought-after chefs.

Here is our curated selection of the best places to enjoy sushi in Annecy, each offering a unique take on this beloved cuisine.

A quick stop for lunch on our way to Geneva Airport. Most of the restaurants were already full, so we got lucky when someone had just finished eating here. The food was great. The place was a bit tight and compact, but the service was excellent, which made the experience better overall.
Suzanne Jansen★★★★★
Friendly service, good sushi. Nice spot for watching people pass by.

I arrived 10 minutes before the restaurant opens, good thing i did because after that it was full of people. The restaurant only seats 8 people inside, and another 10 outside. The dishes were amazing! Absolutely delicious! Ratings do not lie! 😂 Price wise it was ok also. You’ll be full just by ordering the bento set. Will definitely come back here on my next trip to the lovely city of Annecy 🖤🖤

Outstanding! We had a salmon bowl and a tuna bowl and both were fresh and delicious. Great friendly service and a good amount of outdoor seating. Definitely worth the stop
Hannah Muscat★★★★★
Amazing food. Honestly made my day. Only regret is I didn't order more. Super friendly servers. The dorayaki was the only downside. It felt like it wasn't cooked enough in the middle but still edible. I recommend this place. It's just so incredibly delicious. The gyoza was heavenly. Made me wish I lived in Annecy just to eat here again. Cost me 33 euro .

Really fresh food served with salads. Nice waiter. She was quick but it feels rough on her take everything:take order, cleaning, cooking, billing. Very beautiful place for this restaurant. Small but kind of cozy.

Really fresh and delicious sushi and miso soup!!! Great, warm and friendly service from what seems to be a small family run business. We shared this "Lovely" sushi box which was great, although I would recommend they consider adding/substituting a few basic maki (instead of some of the cheese ones) to add a little more variety. Of course, one could also order the maki separately. Toilet available. A few seats indoors and outdoors, but one can also do takeaway. Loved it - highly recommended!!!
Yu-Hsuan Cheng Bachmann★★★★★
The sushi is fresh made and the price for sashimi is super good. Gyoza is also tasty. The service is really nice and friendly. We arrived at 13:30pm and they closed at 14:00pm but they let us finish lunch without stress around 15:00. We will always come over when we are in Annecy.

Happy returning customers review😀 We visited twice during our stay in Annecy for an early dinner takeaway and a quick lunch dining in before catching our bus. We enjoyed the food very much, good portion and express service. We particularly enjoyed our yakitori chicken bowls, eel chirashi, salmon avocado chirashi. Cooked and torched dishes were tasty and sashimi were fresh. The restaurant owner guy was professional, cheerful and welcoming!
Carmen Carrión★★★★★
This place is incredibly cozy, and the food is absolutely delicious. The owners are welcoming, kind, and attentive, making you feel welcomed from the moment you walk in. The service was exceptional, and the sushi was freshly made, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. It's rare to find a place that delivers both outstanding food and such genuine hospitality. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a 10/10 dining experience. Thank you so much for your service! 🙂

I wasn't expecting much. I was just looking for a spot to escape the heatwave. While they did have AC, it wasn't particularly powerful, but it was still much more comfortable than sitting out on the terrace. I ordered the poke bowl and it was fantastic. It was a great combination of fresh fruit, vegetables, and salmon. Also, their sweet shoyu is a game changer. It is perfect for dipping sushi and much more balanced than the standard salty soy sauce.
John Jordan★★★★★
I wasn't expecting much when I came here. I was just hoping for edible sushi. The whole operation feels "fast food" so I had low expectations. I was pleasantly surprised, and honestly the sushi was better than what I get back home in South Florida. I am not a big fan of Salmon, and it seems 99% of sushi in France is some form of Salmon. I was able to get enough tuna to make me happy, though. We had a nice dinner and the friendly staff spoke English too.
Jiaqi Zhang★★★★★
My mum had the fried udon and absolutely loved it. The place was spotless, and the service was warm and attentive. We’d definitely come back again.
Olha L★★★★☆
The waitress was very kind and friendly, which made the experience really pleasant. The crunchy sushi(salmon and tuna) were delicious, and although the rainbow roll set seemed like it had been kept in the fridge and wasn’t as fresh as expected, it was still an enjoyable meal overall.

I visited Annecy and came across this teppan yaki and wanted to try it out! Service was amazing, the chef’s skills were impressive and the food was absolutely delicious 😋 Highly highly recommend to check this one out!!
Paweł Książek★★★★★
Amazing, nice and "entertaining" restaurant. Good is made and served in front of you at the table. It is prepared on a grill plate that is on every table. Cheffes skills are good but most important, the ford is very good for medium price. You can choose from different sets and each of them is made for you one by one. I totally recommend this restaurant 😁
Fausto Giani★★★★★
Fantastic restaurant! Great atmosphere and a fun way to have dinner! Highly recommend
Aditya Dharnidharka★★★★☆
A decent offering for Annecy. The chef clearly tried hard to impress and certainly wowed diners experiencing teppanyaki for the first or second time. To earn anything above four stars, however, he would need to refine his knife skills and bring more creativity to his theatrics. The range of sauces also felt limited and left me wanting more. That said, the effort was evident, so I would still give it four stars.

Amazing restaurant that everybody will enjoy the welcome of the owners and also their food. Do not miss going there if you come to Annecy. Do not forget, you need to reserve in advance :):):)

This was one of the most difficult restaurants to review because the ladies working there were very polite and attaintive, also as it is a persuit for a family business which I respect. However, I must be fair to every shop review so I'll say what I thought very openly. The food was clean but not very tasty. I'm against stocking on sushi ingredients in the fridge and this didn't taste fresh, it tasted frozen. As for the rice, it's not made with rice vinegar which gives the sushi the distinct flavor, the tuna was not fresh for sure. The soy sauce was not a good kind as it was salty but lacked on flavor. The wasabi is not natural wasabi, it's imitation wasabi. The rolls had fried onion on top which was not for me at all, but I tried the basic Nigiri style sushi with tuna, shrimp and salmon. It wasn't bad but wasn't amazing, then again for the price it is okay. I would recommend for them to have fresher ingredients with local salmon, try and cook the rice with non-alcoholic mirin made with rice vinegar, and finally include local fish on the menu to be fresh and surely try to add unagi or Japanese fresh water eel to the menu. Also, increase the meat portion on the pieces to balance the flavor or decrease the rice portion.

We wanted to have lunch at 12:10 on a Wednesday and the restaurant was empty. Nevertheless we entered it and a woman offered us a place. We studied the menu for at least five minutes and she didn’t came to ask for anything. She was at another table and made something on her computer and phone. We had the impression that there is nobody in the kitchen and as she didn’t attend us, we decided to leave the place. The following days after I didn’t see any other guests in the restaurant. Strange and I would not give it another try.

After a long day at the beach, we happened upon Tapaoo Sushi by chance: But it's worth the stop! A small standard sushi menu, a very friendly young team, relaxed outdoor seating on the terrace, not overcrowded area like Annecy City Centre (just 1 km away). A laid-back atmosphere and fair prices. Don‘t expect Japanese fine dining, but good value for money Sushi The sushi specials, the vanilla mochi, and a good miso soup are particularly noteworthy.

Delicious food, nice service. What a pity the place is open at lunch time only.

Funny taste curry, not Japanese, not Indian, not Indonesia, not sure where the region it belongs, if you are not big fan of cumin, maybe it not for you, as it is the only flavor we could taste, and the after taste is a bite bitter too. It comes with a piece of overcooked fried pork chops, tastes plain and dry. Yakisoba is too salty and has no aroma. Wholesale Japanese teriyaki sauce poured directly on the noodles and mixed together before serving. We don’t know what the fried tofu is made of. It tastes like eraser. We were very surprised. We have never had this kind of texture in whole Asia. The only food we could possibly recommend is pad Thai. Definitely a place only for people who haven’t been to Asia.
Maria Napoli★★☆☆☆
I visited KotoKoto for lunch today & except for the lovely service the actual food was very underwhelming - describing it like this as I wish to be respectful. The dishes we ordered, particularly the chicken curry looked nothing like the photos on the website, to be fair it was explained to us that the chicken is now fried. Seriously though I’ve never ever eaten a Japanese chicken curry dish that’s been fried instead of slow cooked in the actual curry sauce? Left us dumbfounded and feeling sorry for ourselves as we’d walked a decent distance on an empty stomach to reach this store and we had high expectations based on previous reviews!

This place has amazing sushi but it’s a small spot with few seats so it’s best to get takeout unless space is available. There are plenty of options as you can either grab something from the shelves or order from the menu. In addition to sushi there’s also a large variety of drinks and desserts including Asian desserts and drinks which are amazing. Highly recommend if you’re in Annecy and looking for sushi.

Hello, we placed an order at 9:15 PM for €113. When we arrived to pick it up, we were unpleasantly told that we should have ordered earlier because it was inconvenient for them to close. Your opening hours state that you close at 10 PM. We came to collect our sushi at 9:40 PM. I don't understand how, as a business owner, you can allow yourself to make this kind of remark. We are very frequent customers. Truly disappointed. May 25, 2026

We ordered takeout. The person who took our order was really friendly and smiling. However, in the kitchen, the sushi was served in half portions: barely 1 cm thick on average, some even thinner. Honestly, it's a slap in the face to the customer.

Hello, I went to SUKO restaurant for lunch today and I didn't find the food very good, even though the sushi looked appetizing. The service was also poor; you have to pay upfront, and then they serve you like it's a fast-food restaurant, without cutlery and with very thin chopsticks. I didn't find that acceptable. The shrimp fritters weren't anything special, and the beef skewers (not pictured below) were tough to chew. I wouldn't recommend eating there.

This place is best avoided for dine-in eating. My standard order (poke, yakatori, gyoza) has taken over 50 minutes to appear from the kitchen. Not one item is ready. The focus appears to be on dealing with delivery orders. Bathroom (singular) is disgusting. Photo is of the sad ready-to-eat offerings. Not sure why this place still exists with the rent it must pay.

Essential Tips for Choosing Your Sushi Experience

Navigating a sushi menu in a foreign country can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when you are trying to distinguish between authentic craftsmanship and generic fast food. To help you make the most of your meal in Annecy, we have compiled a few practical strategies. These insights will ensure you order like a local and appreciate the nuances of the food placed in front of you.

  1. Trust the Seasonal Specials: The best sushi chefs in Annecy often feature a "catch of the day" or seasonal board. These items reflect what was freshest at the market that morning. Do not be afraid to ask for the chef’s recommendation and step away from the standard salmon and tuna sets to try local lake fish or seasonal shellfish.
  2. Look for the "Alpine Twist": Many top-rated spots in Annecy incorporate local Savoyard ingredients into their rolls. You might find rolls featuring Beaufort cheese, locally foraged herbs, or even a touch of regional wine in the sauces. These fusion touches offer a unique sense of place that you won’t find in a standard chain restaurant.
  3. Assess the Rice: In Japanese cuisine, sushi literally translates to "sour rice." The texture and temperature of the rice are just as important as the fish. A high-quality spot will serve rice that is slightly warm or room temperature, perfectly seasoned with vinegar, and holding together without being mushy. If the rice is cold and hard, the experience is compromised.
  4. Consider the Lunch Menus: If you want to experience a high-end sushi restaurant without the premium dinner price tag, book a table for lunch. Many of Annecy’s finest establishments offer "Bento" boxes or "Lunch Sets" that provide an excellent variety of nigiri, maki, and sides at a fraction of the evening cost.
  5. Ask About Sake Pairings: A truly dedicated Japanese restaurant will have a curated selection of sake or Japanese whiskies. Don’t hesitate to ask the staff for pairing advice. A crisp, dry sake can elevate the flavor of fatty fish like salmon or tuna far better than a heavy red wine, offering a more authentic dining experience.

The beauty of Annecy’s food scene lies in its ability to blend the traditional with the contemporary. While the mountains and the lake define the city’s character, the chefs working here bring a global perspective that keeps the dining landscape exciting. Choosing a sushi spot here isn’t just about eating raw fish; it is about witnessing a culinary dialogue between Japan and the French Alps.

As you wander back through the old town after your meal, with the lights reflecting off the Thiou canal, you will likely find that the memory of the food lingers as strongly as the scenery. Whether you opt for a simple plate of sashimi or an elaborate roll inspired by the mountains, the dedication to quality in Annecy ensures a meal worth savoring. Enjoy the journey through the city’s finest flavors, and let your palate be your guide.
