Perpignan sits at a sun-drenched crossroads where French culinary technique meets the bold, earthy flavors of Catalonia. This unique geographic position means the city’s steakhouse scene is far from ordinary. Here, the classic Parisian bistro steak shares the menu with grilled cuts influenced by Spanish parilla traditions and rustic Pyrenean butchery.
Finding the perfect steakhouse in this vibrant southern city requires knowing whether you are looking for a refined dining experience, a family-run institution, or a trendy spot for a night out. The quality of the beef, the mastery of the grill, and the character of the dining room all play crucial roles in the experience. A great steakhouse here is defined not just by the cut, but by the sauce, the wine list, and the warmth of the welcome.
We have analyzed the local dining landscape to bring you a curated selection of the finest meat-focused restaurants in the area. This guide focuses on establishments that consistently deliver exceptional quality, from the sourcing of their meat to the final presentation on the plate. Whether you prefer a thick-cut ribeye or a delicate filet, Perpignan has a table waiting for you.
Our evaluation considered several factors, including the origin and aging of the beef, the skill of the cooking, the atmosphere, and the value for money. We have also prioritized restaurants that understand the importance of a well-curated wine list, featuring local Languedoc-Roussillon reds that pair perfectly with grilled meat. These are the places where locals go to celebrate, to conduct business, or simply to satisfy a serious craving for red meat.
This guide is designed to save you time and ensure you have an unforgettable meal. We have included a variety of styles to suit different budgets and occasions, from elegant establishments perfect for a romantic dinner to lively brasseries ideal for a group gathering. Each entry represents a benchmark for quality in the Perpignan dining scene.

I had an hour or so to grab a quick lunch and I decided to go here because it was close to my B&B. The reservation process was flawless, they reacted very fast. My reserved table was just perfect, in the shade of an olive tree. The food was excellent. I had a tartare with fries, a glass of white wine and a café gourmand as dessert. The riz-au-lait was divine! No complaints at all!
The only remarks I wanna give: wipe the table with a moist cloth before serving the food (my table was quite sticky). The guy who brought me my food was a jolly fellow, very friendly. The girls who were working that noon could smile a bit more, one was actually quite grumpy… The boss was a nice guy, someone you could enjoy a pint with!
Bottom line: would definitely visit again!

Beautiful location out of town, lovely country food, generous portions, friendly hosts. The service suits the establishment, if you are looking for American service, go to NY! We loved the food and place!

The restaurant has a great vibe, beautiful setting, helpful, friendly and efficient staff, and great food and wine. We also met the owner and he is so gracious and kind. We are staying at his small hotel/guest house in Perpignan (Mas Latour Lavail) about 20 minutes away, where there is a winery that he also operates.
Our French being limited, staff went out of their way to help and never made us feel sheepish for not being able to communicate in French.
We both had duck terrine which was phenomenal and the accompanying bread was everything that is wonderful about France. We both had lamb chops, one with the best mashed potatoes we have ever tasted (so buttery) and the other with amazing frites. Our wine was exceptional and, by American standards, so affordable. You choose your wine from the winery so it’s similar to paying what you would pay in a wine store.
The outdoor seating is set in a lovely garden with rustic French touches. It really felt special and magical. We enjoyed our evening immensely.

For the price a simply marvellous place. Great ambiance, great service, fantastic wine and great food. We were very satisfied after visiting and will highly recommend to go for a great uncomplicated meal and pair it with some of the many great wines, both local, but also from other regions of France

Great place to grab slab of meat cooked to perfection. Had the mixed grill which was fab, while the ladies had the chicken skewers and steak. Only pity is no real sauces to accompany dishes.

Service was super nice 👌 The waiter speaks Spanish and she was kind. We ordered 2 hamburgers with pork ribs. Hamburgers were amazingly delicious. Pork ribs were so so… and I didn’t like the sauces so much. It was small & I don’t think 1,5 euro is worth it. Overall I would recommend & would come back again. Thanks!

Very good quality grilled. I had Pucanhiere Beef, which was perfectly cooked. 2 young ladies offered a wonderful service.

Kris Joosten★★★☆☆
This restaurant is often described as one of the best meat restaurants in the region, but personally the experience did not fully live up to that reputation.
As a solo diner the options are quite limited. Most cuts start at 600 to 800 grams, which is ideal for two people but not really for one, which I understand. I therefore chose the Wagyu, which is sliced and weighed in front of your eyes at the butcher’s block.
I started with the carpaccio. The flavor was good, but it was served far too cold.
The steak itself arrived on a very cold plate, which in my opinion shows little respect for the meat or for the customer paying around €300 per kilo.
When I mentioned this, the plate was taken back to the kitchen and returned a couple of minutes later. It was clear the meat had been placed under a salamander, as it went from “bleu chaud” to almost “a point”.
Wine by the glass is available, but you are not informed of the price in advance. In my case, the glass was charged at €10.
This will remain a single visit for me.

I loved everything about this place.
Honestly, that was the best piece of meat I’ve ever eaten!
A big bravo to the team in the kitchen, the waitress, and the owner — everything was spot on.
Love the decor and style.
Highly recommend!

I have absolutely nothing but positive things to say about this gem. They welcomed me in at 9pm on a Saturday evening with a smile, served me wonderful red wine, and brought me over to a total treasure trove of wonderful meats to make an informed choice.
I opted for a black angus entrecôte, and it really was melt-in-the-mouth stuff, cooked to absolute perfection. I’ve had a fair few steaks, and this enters my personal hall of fame. Their grillardin is a master.
Finished it all off with a chocolate mousse with those amazing flecks of fleur de sel from Aigues-Mortes.
Will be back. Merci Beaucoup!!!
Kirill Maksimkin★★★★★
So it’s definitely a meat place where you can enjoy a huge portion of food. The service is at a top level. I think this place is well deserved to be in a Michelin guide as you can literally feel how they care about what they are doing.
I recommend booking in advance. Also we could finish the meals in 1 hours. It’s incredibly quick for France. Very good and friendly service

This is the second time I have tried this branded restaurant firstly in Guadalupe and now in Perpignan and sadly disappointed on both occasions, the restaurant vibe is good that gets you in the door, service is fine here in Perpignan the disappointment is the food very little and bland and expensive for what you get I had a cesar salad and honestly the chicken was tiny and on par with McDonald's but twice the price, there are better options nearby offering good quality priced food

Very friendly and helpful staff, they were truly amazing.
Unfortunately the meat did not meet our expectations. We ordered our meat medium/rare and got something close to well done and barely warm. My baked potato was dry and unappealing. Their house wine I do recommend but don't eat here.

Avoid this place, tourist trap with inedible steak. When we complained they said that we should have told them beforehand, like we should know how their poor quality meat was going to eat!!!
Young drinks waitress was very nice, manager was a total hardass, zero customer care. Do not recommend.

Probably my least favorite place during my ferry flight. I didn't enjoy my meal and a friend ordered well-done steak and got medium rare! I want to believe it was our lack of French vocabulary that ruined it. We asked for the soup of the day and got a cold soup...during winter! Not a good way to start our meal.

Excellent restaurant.
My wife and I were early arrivals just after 7pm so first customers but more tables filled over the next couple of hours.
Offered a table in the end with the roof open as it was a very hot day.
Could not resist the wonderful looking steaks and were not dissppointed.

Food was ok but small measures, steak was cheap cut, service was good if a little slow but the servers were busy. Music was loud and ruined the atmosphere. Not our usual type of place but went with other family members. Probably won't go again. With some small improvements this could have been an enjoyable experience.

Revised menu since our last visit to a Buffalo grill, although not been to this one before. Good variety of food and not just steak or burgers. We had Chilli, sausages and Cesar salad, all of which was very tasty but the chilli portion could have been bigger. There are also menu options/ deals and a loyalty programme.

Marisa Gallego★★☆☆☆
The worst meal I can remember being served in a restaurant. We went in for lunch for a salad... it was decent. We went in for a steak dinner another night... it was fine. Nothing to write home about, but perfectly edible. It was close to our hotel, so we ended up there a second evening, just before we left town. I ordered a pizza called an "Italiano". It was an overcooked thin crust pizza topped in congealed cheese with what was supposed to be marinara sauce. It was not. It was plain tomato sauce. On top of the cooked pizza, they piled about a half pound of cold, shaved ham. COLD. On top of that, in the middle of the pizza was an ice cold burrata. There wasn't an herb or a spice on the entire pizza. It was cold from the meat and cheese and completely flavorless. Just horrible. I stopped to wonder if they were purposely messing with the Americans. My friend ordered the mushroom and ham pizza, and same thing.... mounds of cold sliced ham. Boiled ham, like you make sandwiches out of. Either pizza would have been decent if they bothered popping it under a broiler ... or put the ham and burrata on before putting it in the oven... but as served, nope.
For an appetizer, I ordered ham croquettes. I took one bite and almost vomited. Either the ham or the batter was rancid. I sent it back as inedible. The server was nowhere to be found and we had to argue with the manager to get the croquettes removed from the bill.
Never, in my wildest dreams would I have thought I needed to go to France to be served the worst meal in my 61 years. I never ever want to hear about how bad English food is again. I've never been served something so ridiculously bad in the UK. We drove to Spain as fast as we could and never looked back. Even the meals at touristy tapas bars in Spain were phenomenal. Everywhere we ate, we were served outstanding meals. I tell this story of Brasserie Balthazar to all of my friends, especially the French ones for a good laugh.
Paul Ericsson★★★★☆
A reliably French brasserie with all the items you would expect on the menu. Good pizza, nice steak frites. I’ve been several times and always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Reasonably priced. Service is (French) good, but the restaurant gets very busy, which can be expected.
JPM★☆☆☆☆
We ordered veal kidney that were served with salad and French fries. I specifically requested to the server to get my fries crispy, I got old mushy fries and 2 leaves of salad ! My partner ordered a goat cheese salad, it was cheap bagged salad with basically no dressing. The bread was a least 2 days old …. Definitely won’t come back. Very disappointed

Interesting place well appointed modern clean and comfortable, Very busy but the food arrived promptly. The staff were helpful and friendly inspite of being very busy. the food was quite good with large portions, and reasonably priced, we missed happy hour though. My wife and I liked the place so much that we went back the following night. Would recommend

Do not go here, bad food and attitude to customers and the manager actually stole my phone!!! we had pizza and salad and both were basic and overpriced, only just edible. We had a civil discussion with the manager about the fact we didn’t want another pizza which we had ordered for take away due to the food not being acceptable and for them to take it off the bill, suddenly he swipes my phone and starts shouting at us to force us to pay. Obviously this is childish and not acceptable behaviour for a restaurant manager! And not a resolution to adult discussion, We called the police, thanks brasserie Balthazar you ruined our day..

I am not a seafood fan, but my family is. So, on our way to the Pyrenees, we stopped by here for lunch. My grilled fish was just incredible. Moist and well seasoned... I loved it. The other dishes were spaghetti in squid ink with mussels and crispy cod with lobster cream sauce on mashed sweet potatoes. The crispy cod was delicious. We also ordered a dozen oysters. A lovely meal on our road trip.
Alexander Botev★★★★★
Surprisingly very, very good. You think, aah, by the road, distant location, like a food court in a mall. But you're mistaken. The place has a fresh fish market, a good chef and an enthusiastic sommelier. We had oysters, local (cheapest) and Irish (most expensive), quite impressive, soft, sweet and sea snails with a remarkable sauce.
Smoked slices of fishes 🔝 and curred 18m iberic ham 💪
Something like paella but black and probably the best calamari we had ever. Bouillabaisse was excellent. They brought it to us in the bottle, and we poured it as we wished.
The staff is very friendly and shy in speaking English, but they try, and it is impressive.
Very recommended place.

How to Choose the Right Steakhouse for Your Night Out
Before you make a reservation, it is helpful to understand a few nuances of the local steakhouse culture. The way meat is sourced, aged, and cooked in this region can vary significantly from one restaurant to the next. Knowing what to look for will help you order with confidence and get exactly the meal you are hoping for.
First, pay attention to the breed and origin of the beef listed on the menu. Many top establishments in Perpignan proudly serve French breeds like Aubrac, Charolais, or Limousine, but you may also find Spanish Rubia Gallega or even local Catalan beef. Do not hesitate to ask your server about the aging process; dry-aged beef will have a more concentrated, nutty flavor compared to the cleaner taste of fresh meat.
Second, understand the local cooking preferences. In France, "saignant" means rare, "à point" means medium-rare to medium, and "bien cuit" means well done. If you prefer your steak cooked medium, ordering "à point" is usually your safest bet to avoid meat that is more cooked than you like.
Third, consider the sauce. While a great steak needs little more than salt and good butter, French steakhouses are famous for their sauces. A classic peppercorn sauce, a rich Béarnaise, or a local Roquefort sauce can elevate the meal, but a simple chimichurri or olive oil might be preferred if you want to taste the pure flavor of the beef.
Finally, do not overlook the side dishes. The best steakhouses in Perpignan put as much care into their frites, gratins, and seasonal vegetables as they do into the meat. A perfectly crisp, twice-cooked frite or a creamy potato gratin is the mark of a kitchen that respects the entire plate.
Perpignan’s dining scene is a true reflection of its cultural identity: proud, warm, and deeply connected to the land. Whether you are visiting for a weekend or have lived here for years, taking the time to enjoy a perfectly grilled steak in one of these establishments is an essential part of the local experience. The combination of high-quality meat, excellent wine, and the relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere makes for a meal you will not soon forget.
The next time the craving for a serious steak hits, use this guide to find your spot. From the sizzle of the grill to the last sip of a robust red wine, the steakhouses of Perpignan are ready to show you why this corner of France is a true paradise for carnivores.
