12 Best Asian Restaurants in Perpignan

Perpignan sits at a vibrant crossroads where French Catalan culture meets a deep-rooted passion for gastronomy. While the city is famous for its anchovies and rustic Catalan stews, its dining scene has quietly evolved into a dynamic hub for pan-Asian cuisine. From steaming bowls of Vietnamese pho to intricate Japanese sushi and fiery Sichuan stir-fries, the city offers a surprising depth of flavor for those willing to explore beyond the tapas bars.

Finding an authentic Asian restaurant in a city steeped in Mediterranean tradition can be a challenge. Many menus are adapted to local palates, while others remain fiercely loyal to their regional origins. The difference between a mediocre meal and a memorable one often lies in the freshness of the ingredients, the technique of the chef, and the atmosphere of the space.

This guide curates a list of the most compelling Asian dining experiences currently available in Perpignan. We have evaluated kitchens based on their consistency, the authenticity of their recipes, the quality of their service, and the overall value they provide to diners. Whether you are a local resident or a traveler passing through the Pyrénées-Orientales, this selection aims to satisfy your cravings for Eastern flavors.

The local dining culture here is relaxed, often favoring long lunches and late dinners. You will find that many of these establishments are run by families who have brought their culinary heritage directly from Asia to the South of France. This personal touch often translates into recipes that have been perfected over generations, offering a taste of home rather than a simple takeaway meal.

We have included a diverse range of styles to suit every budget and occasion. You will find intimate spots perfect for a date night, casual noodle bars ideal for a quick lunch, and elegant settings suitable for a celebration. Each entry has been chosen because it represents the best of its specific category within the city limits.

Before diving into the specific recommendations, it is helpful to understand the local landscape. Perpignan is a compact city, meaning most of these restaurants are easily accessible on foot from the historic center or a short drive from the outskirts. Parking can be tricky near the Castillet, so planning your route in advance is often wise.

Here is the definitive selection of the best Asian restaurants currently operating in Perpignan.

Always delicious 😋 . Try their Hun Tun soupe, it’s a must! Today we went on the spicy side with Shui Zhu Niu Rou and Ribs sauce caramel and vegetable noodles. Perfect!!! 👌🏻

The taste of food is fantastic and very Chinese! This restaurant is a must try if you are visiting this city. The restaurant provides high-standard service and pleasing dining area. They even helped me to communicate with my road assistance when I had a flat tire after my lunch!! Also, super dog-friendly!

I was excited to try this place thanks to the reviews but it disappointed me.. I was sent away the first night because I had no reservation even though the place was near empty. I made a reservation & came the next day (still near empty but I guess you can’t eat there without a reservation). At first she was about to send me away till I said I had a reservation then I got sat in the back. The dish was too dry, too hard to chew and had very little minced pork in it. I could barely eat it but I picked at it a bit. So I paid but left hungry. I won’t return or recommend.

A surprise!! It’s a real Chinese restaurant in Perpignan. All the dishes I ordered tasted very delicious. I recommend it 100%. The service is welcoming. Very very nice!

We just travelled from Paris to south and bumped into this Chinese restaurant and it’s quite authentic spicy food! Love it!

A nice little Asian restaurant with quality food. The ramen was great, the crispy chicken with rice and carrot and potato sauce was fantastic. The waitress was kind and patient with us 🙂 We think they should have another employee because the waitress herself was overwhelmed when people started coming in larger numbers. Still, we definitely recommend it!
Dawan Lin★★★★★
I heard the Lanzhou noodles at this restaurant are very authentic, so while traveling in Peplirion from Germany, I made a special trip to try them. The taste is indeed genuine! And the Chicken Teriyaki is the best one I have ever eaten in France!!! The restaurant's decor is especially cozy and attractive, and the service is incredibly warm and friendly. Highly recommended!

This is one of the best Asian food havens in Europe, as I've been here for a while. 🍜🍣 Cozy vibe and nice owners, food is simple and simply amazing. 😋 As you can tell, we could not wait to dig in before a proper photo. 📸

The food was good, I'm just a bit dissappointed that what I got (Poulet sauce Teriyaki & Riz blanc) looked very different from the image in the menu

It was such a nice surprise to discover a Filipino/Asian restaurant outside of Paris! Mabuhay Restaurant is cozy, the staff are friendly, and the owner was very welcoming as well. It was also wonderful to meet a Filipina who is passionate about promoting Filipino cuisine and culture through her restaurant. We ordered the lechon kawali, and it was absolutely delicious 🥰 Crispy, flavorful, and satisfying! The portion was generous enough for a filling and savory meal. I really wish there were more Filipino restaurants like this in other parts of France. It’s great to see Filipino food and culture being shared beyond Paris. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Perpignan!

One of the few Filipino restaurants in France outside of Paris, and we're so glad we found it! Tess (the owner) is wonderful and welcoming – you immediately feel like family. What we ordered: Lumpia (nems porc) Chicken adobo Cebu lechon The lumpia: My kids devoured these before we could even try one. According to them, "excellent." Guess we'll have to order more next time! The chicken adobo: Served dry style with crushed peanuts and ripe mango over a bed of rice with adobo marinade. I loved the combination of salty and sweet, and the crunch of the peanuts was a nice touch to a dish that typically has just one texture. The Cebu lechon: Having grown up only ever eating lechon kawali, this was my first time having Cebu lechon, and now I'm hooked! The lechon was tender and cooked to perfection. It was served with a summer radish-style kimchi that gave a wonderful lightness to what's typically a heavier dish. We greatly enjoyed our meal and will absolutely be back. If you're craving authentic Filipino food in the South of France, this is your spot!
Neil Matillano★★★★★
Very surprised to see a very good Filipino (and other asian dishes) resto in Perpignan - which was a really pleasant surprise. We're originally from Cebu and we tried their Cebu lechon which was close to the version back home... Tess the owner was very friendly and accommodating. The calamansi juice was also very good and refreshing especially on a hot summer day in Perpignan.
Jessica Wilson★★★★★
Lovely experience! Food was delicious and staff was very kind and welcoming. Also loved the decor highlighting parts of Filipino culture. Amazing to be able to have authentic Filipino food in Perpignan. Also a lovely location to walk around town before/after. Thank you to all at Mabuhay 🙂

Had dinner here with my girlfriend and we could not recommend it more! The atmosphere was so warm and welcoming, all the food was delicious! You could tell how much love and thought had been put into every handmade dish. My girlfriend is gluten free and Thess (the lovely owner and chef) was able to make almost every dish she wanted gluten free! We went there on a Thursday and there was some fantastic live music and such good energy. Some of the best food we have had, thank you Thess!!

Remember my travelling through Asia in the past has never been so close. I came here for dinner twice in two days, where I felt very welcome in a cozy small room resembling the izakayas… the food was also very good, with quite a range for vegetarian options.

Great little restaurant hidden away in one of the side streets. The food was fantastic, a bit small. Reservation is a good idea. We were lucky yo have arrived early abd was accepted without reservations. There were others who were turned away.

We had been looking forward to this restaurant for sometime. We really wanted to like it more. Nice friendly server. Cozy atmosphere upstairs. Good effort by the chef, but we left underwhelmed by the food. Nothing was bad but nothing was that great. The menu is awkward to understand. The Ramen pork presented nicely but the broth was boring. Chicken Kara age not really flavorful. Nothing really memorable about the food. We tried some Sake that was quite weak. Nevertheless we will come back and try again other dishes another time.

I was ripped off; they charged me more than I should have paid. The set menu was worth about twenty euros, and they charged me almost forty, but since I'm Spanish and speak little French, I didn't notice.

Very good atmosphere and delicious 😋 foods. I'm very satisfied with it. And reasonable price. I went to there for a lunch. It was easy and nice to choose menu with photos. I want to try sake there next time. I highly recommend.

Nice welcome. Friendly. Small place. I don’t find the seating cozy, it’s functional. If there’s a loud group, it can overtake the room. Simple menu and reasonable prices. It was fine, but I didn’t realize the gyu no tataki is served cold so it wasn’t super enjoyable. Nice desert of mascorpone

Incredible! Fantastic! Me and my girlfriend are so happy for discovering this place, makes it worth coming back to Perpignan. This small restaurant made us a trip to the best of japan with its food quality and taste, as well as the good ambient and decoration. Thank you and à bientôt.

Efficiently run (solo plus cook) small Asian theme eatery. I wouldn’t name it as ‘Japanese’ exactly but a fusion theme. The menu is limited. For France the cost was ok.

If you haven't ever had Korean BBQ, it's understandable that you don't realise that you cook the food yourself. Second, in most Asian meals, protein is not the main staple. Its the "nice to have" and portions aren't huge slabs of meats as you would expect in North American or European meals. This is as much a cultural experience as a food experience. Now that we got that out of the way, let me delve in to my experience today at Gougi. My husband and I got the Discovery plate, and our guest the beef. I was pleasantly surprised at the mixed array of meats provided including wagyu beef. A little disappointed that we didn't get to cut the meat ourselves with scissors but nonetheless thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Meal was provided with a bowl of rice for each, sauces, sides and lettuce leaves. I had fun mixing the flavours of sides and sauces with the variety of meats provided. Different tastes. Textures. I already want to go back. I would recommend this place to anyone to try with an open mind.
Caro Wood★★★★★
Came here for lunch and was thrilled with the experience of having Korean BBQ in Perpignan! Cute and modern ambience! We ordered the assiette découverte to try all the grilled meats. Most of the side dishes are included and all you can eat except for the kimchi. Sauces very authentic and kimchi delicious. Wagyu was tender and delicious. Service and staff were exuberant and friendly and very open to explaining any unfamiliar dishes. They have a large selection of natural wines. I was a bit sceptical at first in ordering a natural wine but very much enjoyed it. Will be back soon!

Fantastic. Lots of quality options, amasing service service with guidance if it’s your 1st time. Very child friendly. Highly recommended!

It was strange in the beginning, but we were delighted and happy to choose that restaurant amo g many others in the heart of the town.
M V★★★★☆
Very cute Korean bbq place right off the Place de République. The quality of the meat was very good, though much smaller than expected (I'm used to the traditional large slice of meat that you cut it yourself with scissors at the table). Your standard Korean side dishes come with the meat but you have to pay extra for more kimchi. For those used to Korean bbq in Asia, be warned this restaurant is on the more expensive side. Overall would still recommend.

Really nice selection of Asian-inspired bowls made with fresh, tasty sauces and ingredients. I appreciated all of the nice raw vegetables, which can be hard to come by in this part of the world. The service was very friendly. My only complaint is the pop music they were playing, which grated on me and was quite loud, even though the place was empty. I'd have preferred something more low-key. I'll return for takeaway if ever I'm in Perpignan again.

The owner was lovely and very helpful. Very generous portions and full of flavour. Nice overall experience We had the Souleater burger, Zenitsu Burger, waffle fries and Tempura veg (which was delicious). A lot of food for two hungry people.
Garrett Schlake★★★★★
Great, passionate chef/owner who really cares about his food and customers! The flavors were great, though my chicken was a bit on the dry side. There was a lot of variety without things being too out of hand and I felt everything was well balanced. The portions were also quite generous with what seem to be quality ingredients. You can tell he is humble and takes feedback well, so I hope he continues to do so and grow! I would recommend he maybe trims/staples the table covers better to fit the size of the tables and maybe get a couple higher stools to sit on (shorter people may not feel super comfortable reaching the table) Overall great experience and I would highly recommend! God bless!

Fantastic value for money. Great variety of food that is fresh and well made. The sushi is delicious. Do not forget the grill section, where a chef prepares fresh meat, fish and vegetables for you with lovely sauces. The desserts are the least interesting section (factory quality), but overall a place we keep coming back to a few times a year.

It's a busy place. Come with an appetite if you want the best value for your euro. I came on a Saturday and there was a huge selection. It's an Asian style buffet with Chinese to Japanese cuisine. There was a large salad table and dessert too. They have a full drink menu too.

Essential Tips for Enjoying Asian Cuisine in Perpignan

Dining out in a city with such a strong culinary identity of its own requires a little bit of local knowledge. To help you navigate the scene like a seasoned local rather than a tourist, we have compiled a few practical strategies. These tips will help you secure a table, order correctly, and appreciate the nuances of how Asian food is presented in this specific region of France.

1. Book Ahead for Weekend Dinners

Perpignan has a lively evening culture, and the top-rated Asian spots are often small, family-run operations with limited seating. If you plan to dine on a Friday or Saturday night, especially in the city center, calling ahead is essential. Many restaurants will not take walk-ins after 8:00 PM once their first seating is full.

2. Look for the "Menu du Midi" at Lunch

If you want to experience the best value, visit during the afternoon. Most restaurants offer a fixed-price lunch menu that is significantly cheaper than their evening à la carte options. This allows you to sample high-quality sushi or wok dishes without stretching your travel budget.

3. Understand the Spice Levels

French-Catalan palates have historically been sensitive to heat, but this is changing. If a menu item is labeled "spicy" in a mainstream Perpignan restaurant, it is often milder than what you might expect in a major metropolitan hub. If you are a true chili enthusiast, do not hesitate to ask for fresh chili oil or sambal on the side.

4. Check for Seasonal Seafood Specials

Because Perpignan is so close to the Mediterranean coast, the best Asian chefs often incorporate local catches into their menus. You may find sushi made with local sea bream (daurade) or wok-fried prawns from Port-Vendres. These fusion touches are usually the freshest and most interesting items on the menu.

5. Verify Opening Hours

Many restaurants in the South of France close between lunch and dinner service, typically from 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Additionally, some smaller Asian establishments close for one or two days a week, often Sunday or Monday. Always check their current hours online or via a quick phone call to avoid disappointment.

6. Don’t Skip the Tea

In many of the more traditional Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants in Perpignan, the meal is meant to be accompanied by tea, not just wine. While you should absolutely enjoy the local Côtes du Roussillon wines, try ordering a pot of jasmine or green tea. It often cleanses the palate better between complex, spiced dishes.

The Asian dining scene in Perpignan is a testament to the city’s ability to welcome global influences while maintaining its unique identity. Whether you are in the mood for the precision of Japanese omakase or the comfort of a rich, aromatic Thai curry, you will find a kitchen here that takes pride in its craft. Exploring these restaurants offers a delightful contrast to the heavy, meat-centric dishes of the Catalan mountains, providing a lighter, aromatic alternative that fits perfectly with the sunny climate.

As you walk through the narrow medieval streets or the newer boulevards, let your senses guide you. The scent of grilling satay, the sight of fresh herbs, and the sound of a sizzling wok are all invitations to sit down and stay a while. Bon appétit, or as they might say in some of these kitchens, "itadakimasu."
