12 Best Seafood Restaurants in Alicante

Alicante’s relationship with the Mediterranean is not just about its famous beaches and sunny promenades; it is a deep, daily culinary affair. The city’s markets overflow with glistening catch from the nearby waters, while the marina and old town hum with kitchens that treat seafood with the reverence it deserves. From the traditional fishing quarter of Santa Cruz to the modern elegance of the Explanada, the scent of grilled prawns and salted fish fills the air.

Dining on seafood here is a ritual that ranges from the humble to the haute. You might find yourself in a bustling, tile-lined tapas bar where the day’s menu is scrawled on a chalkboard, or on a breezy terrace facing the Mediterranean, sipping a crisp local white wine. What unites these experiences is a commitment to freshness—often the fish was swimming in the sea just hours before it reaches your plate.

The local cuisine is defined by its simplicity and respect for ingredients. Alicante is famous for its arroz a banda (rice cooked in fish stock), caldero (a fisherman’s stew), and gambas rojas (the prized red prawns of the Costa Blanca). These are not complicated dishes, but they demand the very best raw materials, which is why knowing where the locals eat is essential for any visitor.

Navigating the dining scene can be overwhelming, especially with the mix of tourist-focused terraces and authentic, hidden gems. To truly appreciate the city’s maritime soul, you need to venture beyond the obvious. Whether you are looking for a high-end tasting menu or a paper cone of fried boquerones (anchovies), the city offers a spectrum of experiences that cater to every palate and budget.

The best establishments balance tradition with a touch of innovation, often sourcing their seafood directly from the Lonja del Pescado (the fish auction). Many of the most storied venues are family-run, with generations of knowledge going into the selection of the daily catch. This expertise ensures that whether you order a simple plate of grilled squid or a complex rice dish, it will be executed with precision.

In this guide, we have curated a selection that represents the very best of Alicante’s seafood scene. These are the places that consistently deliver on quality, atmosphere, and authenticity. They are the spots where you can sit elbow-to-elbow with local families, where the service is warm, and where the flavors of the Mediterranean are at their most vivid.

Before we dive into the specific venues, it is worth noting that dining times in Spain are later than in much of the world. Lunch typically peaks around 2:00 PM, while dinner rarely starts before 9:00 PM. Booking ahead, especially for weekend lunches, is highly recommended to secure a table at these sought-after addresses.

This place is awesome inside, super well decorated and it has a VIP room. Price is reasonable but the quality might be higher. The views are really nice too

An average choice. The food was good, but not as expected. Expensive and small portions. The services was very bad.

An area of Alicante I've never been to before. I was pleasantly surprised to find restaurants! This place is very Spanish and the food very good. Will return for sure.

Warm and welcoming service from Pablo (thank you for your kindness to our little boy). The seafood paella was delicious and the kids' chicken goujons and chips was of very good quality. The complementary shot at the end was a nice touch, as was the lolly for our boy. Lovely menu and great flavours.
Sarah M★★★★☆
The food was overall very good! Only the fries were not completely done. The portion sizes are really big and overall we would recommend coming here. The sangria was excellent as well as the croquettas and the fried baby squid.
Iris Tsang★★★★★
Perfect food with excellent sea view. Ordered a seafood paella and garlic prawns. Seafoods were fresh and tasty. Would try the shellfish platter that includes lobsters and different kinds of prawns next time. Great service. Highly recommended!
Kinga Fornyos★★★★☆
We went there for dinner this week. The seafood paella was absolutely delicious. The creamy monkfish paella was a bit less flavorful, but still tasty. The tapas were very good as well. My uncle ordered grilled beef brisket, and it was slightly undercooked, but the waiters were very helpful and brought another one that was cooked more thoroughly. Overall, I definitely recommend the place — it’s right by the seaside and serves delicious seafood dishes.

We came here for cocktails and have a place to rest and it was superb. The cocktails are fairly priced and taste great, the location is fantastic and the staff are helpful and polite. Also their hot chocolate is particularly superb and they have one of the best pina coladas around

Great place for fresh seafood in the heart of Alicante. The food was delicious and fresh, the staff were friendly, and the atmosphere was very enjoyable. Excellent value for money and definitely worth a visit. I especially recommend the fried seafood specialties and a cold beer to go with them.
DimSun Lubrik★★★★★
The food is excellent and extremely fresh. The choice of different fish and seefood is great. All dishes (8) we tried were very tasty and the tempura was delicate, extremely thin and made with extra virgin olive oil. This place excellent for dinner or lunch, after work or after sunbathing. We changed or plans to visit Bodegita 1999, to stay all evening in this lovely place.
Ben Edikt★★★★★
Great little hidden gem downtown Alicante. Although its right in the center surrounded by touristic restaurants this place stands out as a local place. Very small inside but that creates a great atmosphere. I love the fried seafood. I had almost all the items on the menu but my favorite it the fried octopus/pulpo. The staff is also very friendly and engaging.
Lucia Carruthers★★★★★
Super fresh and delicious. I agree with the other reviews, the veggies are the best. So thin and crispy. We also enjoyed the cuttlefish. Nice and casual place.
Luke Conod★★★★★
If you’re in Alicante and love seafood, Alma del Sur is an absolute must-visit. The fish here is simply outstanding — incredibly fresh, light, and perfectly cooked. The frying is spot on: crisp without being greasy, letting the quality of the seafood really shine through. You can taste the difference straight away, and it’s the kind of place where every dish leaves you wanting just one more bite. What really elevates the experience though is the service. The staff are warm, friendly and genuinely welcoming — the sort of place where you feel looked after rather than just served. It adds a lot to the overall charm and makes the whole experience feel relaxed and authentic. The setting is small and unpretentious, which only adds to its appeal. It’s not about fancy surroundings — it’s about proper, honest food done exceptionally well. Yes, it’s cosy and can get busy, but that’s usually a good sign you’ve found somewhere special. In short: fantastic fish, wonderful service, and a real hidden gem feel. One of those places you discover… and then keep going back to.

All the seafood were very fresh and cooked. The cooking timings were perfect and really brought the freshness of every seafood. The lobster rice was really flavourful but it tasted too much of a lobster stock to me rather than a sweet seafood fresh dish. However the menu was really worth it and the desserts were delicious especially the flan.
Mj Fnk★★★☆☆
Nice place but definitely gave off the tourist trap more than the local recommended fish place. The fish was 'OK' the pulpo had either been weight training, or considered steroids, as it was quite tough. Considering the price, the sauce podtion was quite stingy. However, the service was good and the staff were attentive and very helpful Would I return, not sure tbh. I like my fish, but this was an OK more than a wow (that the price should"ve commanded)
M★★★★★
A truly original and well designed restaurant that offers a dining experience different from the usual. The concept is very interesting, with several set menu options to choose from depending on your preferences and appetite. In addition, you can select fresh fish directly from the restaurant’s fish counter, which I thought was a fantastic idea and made the experience feel even more authentic and engaging. The food was excellent. The quality of the seafood was outstanding, and the fried seafood deserves a special mention: light, crispy, and absolutely delicious. The sangria was also very good. Despite the restaurant being fully booked, the service was fast and impeccable. The waitresses were particularly attentive, friendly, and professional throughout the evening. The restaurant itself is also beautiful, with a stylish design, attention to detail, and a very pleasant atmosphere. Finally, the value for money is remarkable. Considering both the quality and quantity of the food, the final bill was more than reasonable. Overall, it was an extremely positive experience, and I would highly recommend it without hesitation.
Matilda Centore★★★★☆
The fish was incredibly fresh and full of flavor, and the prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend ordering one of the set menus to share so you can sample a variety of dishes. We chose the first menu, the “Postiguet”, and our favorite items were the chopitos fritos and the croqueta. We also selected a fresh fish from the counter, the dorada, which was exceptionally fresh, delicate, and absolutely delicious. The only downside was the service. It seemed that there were only three people serving, which made everything feel a bit disorganized and confusing. Several tables were empty, yet people were waiting in line because no one was available to seat them or clear the tables. i still really reccomend it if you want to eat fresh food!
Matthias Janeck★★★★★
The fish market is amazing. You point at the fish you want and that’s what you get. The rice soup is very delicious even though it has not too much seafood in it. Service was freat and friendly. We had to wait quite long for the food even though it was 22:00 already

Alice DM★☆☆☆☆
We chose this restaurant based on the quality of the seafood and were excited to try the fish of the day. The ingredients appeared to be high quality, and the service was friendly, but unfortunately the execution fell short of the price point. The clams were extremely salty, and we mentioned it to our server during the meal. The fish and even the fries were also heavily oversalted. In addition, part of the fish near the head was undercooked. When we brought this up, the server acknowledged the issue and joked that the chef “must be in love,” but no meaningful effort was made to correct the situation. What disappointed us most was the lack of service recovery. We specifically chose to provide feedback in person rather than leave a negative review, hoping the restaurant would address the concerns. Instead, the only gesture was complimentary coffee on a bill of over €140. I don’t mind paying premium prices for quality seafood, but when multiple dishes have the same issue, I expect the restaurant to take the feedback more seriously. The ingredients were good, but the overall experience left us feeling disappointed and undervalued as customers.

Perfect experience. Very fresh fish, amazing and knowledgable service. We enjoyed our evening with Arno, thank you so much!

Ladies and Gentlemen! This is the place! If you want to try Mediterranean seafood made and served by people who care, look no further. J. Gourmet is a small but very comfortable restaurant specializing in seafood. Everything we had was top notch and served with a smile. Prices according to market but far under some more well known restaurants in town. We’ll definitely be back!

This restaurant is a wonderful find. It's is a much more upscale version of a market restaurant in Benalua, opened recently. It's in a central location, but just off two main food streets. The seafood is delicious, cooked perfectly, and the service excellent. We came back a second time and it was just as good. We'll be back again!

The most delicious oyster I have ever eaten 😭😭😭 All the seafood was so fresh and tasted wonderfully sweet. Firstly the service is 5star , fine dining level . The waiters are professional and tentative and friendly. It’s relaxed yet professional. The menu is very easy to read with English qr code . Every dish was exceptional and looked exactly as it does in the pictures. Also excellent value for money . Total bill was €138 . 10/10 best dining experience I’ve had all year .

Carpe DIEM★★★☆☆
Nothing special, completely mediocre. There is not enough choice on the menu. Usually when we go to a new place, we like to try several (many) things. The waiter explained that what we ordered would be too much food for 2 people and stopped us. Let us decide what and how much too eat IF we are the guests and we pay! The portions are not large at all. All food was salty. No vegetables or other side dishes. The chips were pure oil and tasted rancid. It is the only side dish that can be ordered, bread is the other option. The toilet opens directly INTO the restaurant, without a divider. Everyone leaves the door open, very disgusting and incomprehensible. The waiters are running, very busy but not paying attention… The tuna tartar has an interesting flavor, delicious. The other dishes can be made in practically any mid-range restaurant. Overall a disappointment. Not even close to 5 stars.
Laura Isomäki★★★★☆
A spontaneous visit (lunch/menu del dia). Very calm, beautiful decor, very good service. Food was delicious! Good wine selection.
Richard Lloyd★★★☆☆
Nice place and everything was going well until the prawns came out undercooked, at thirty six euros for four, which is fine, at least cook them properly and maybe if you recognize they are not then make an effort to compensate on the bill in part or a whole, shame, non speaking tourist so won’t be back attitude from the owner
Alex Schlichenmaier★☆☆☆☆
Service was ok ordered a medium ribeye. never had this bad meat in my life and it was still raw
Miertje Miertje★☆☆☆☆
We choose the rice dish with monkfish and prawns ( a main dish),€ 24,50 per person. The portion was very small ( smaller than a starters’ dish ) and we counted 2 screds of monkfish ( 1 cm) and 1 Tiny prawn of 1 cm. Besides that, the rice was still sticky when biting on it , so not well cooked in our view. We had this dish in Spain and Portugal Many times, but this was really bad. The head waiter said it was the normal dish.. We saw no chef to explain. Dont go here. The waiter who served us felt bad and offered Free dessert as wel as a small reduction on price. Wine was good😉.

Great family restaurant with fresh and local food. Food is really amazing. The whole family is working there starting with Pablo (the chef and the owner) his adorable wife and the rest of the family. Awesome view as well, fair prices and great quality. We arrived there on our first morning in the Alicante and ordered their famous arroz, fried calamari and delicious homemade sangria. Everything was outstanding, so we came back couple of times later on our short trip. Also we had an amazing experience during the huge power cut over there. We didn’t have any cash and Pablo said he will feed us anyway and we can pay him the next day. He barely knew us and still showed a great care and hospitality. Great place, amazing people and delicious food!

It was my first time at this restaurant and all the ingredients are extremely fresh and made to order – nothing too oily, nothing too salty. The cuisine is perfectly balanced, extremely flavorful and ultra-fresh. I recommend it in every way: the service was excellent, the reception extraordinary, and the taste of the food highly recommended. A 10 out of 10 for the service, the restaurant, the cleanliness, the organization, and the flavor of all the dishes.

We stopped in for lunch and were told all the tables were reserved but we could sit at the bar. One of the best fish meals we've had in a long time. We had the seabass and it was honestly the most delicious seabass either of us has ever eaten — perfectly cooked, you can tell the fish is properly fresh from the sea (not farmed.) The whole place has that authentic, no-frills charm, and the service was warm and genuinely welcoming, not just polite-for-tourists welcoming. You can feel that it's a real family business (we heard it's been running since 1988), and that history shows in how much care goes into the food. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Alicante.

We had a wonderful and familiar experience at this cozy traditional ’mesón’ during our stay in Alicante. We were friendly treated by Javier all along, including the helpful introduction of wines and the perfect serving of their flagship ’rodaballo a la castreña’ by the table as well. ’Almejas a la marinera’ and ’Pulpo dos cocciones’ were also undoubtedly among our best seafood experiences so far. Do not miss the chance to book a table and visit this hidden family gem while staying in Alicante!

One of the best meals I had in Spain so far. We wanted to have nice lunch since it looked great in the reviews. It exceeded my already high expectations. The restaurant is nice and cozy with a very warm feel. The staff was super nice and helpful, even though I barely spoke any Spanish. But the most important part was the food. It was simply great, we had a variety seafood dishes and also a steak. The food was fresh and had a very well balanced seasoning, the octopus ist superb. The streak was also well prepared, great char on the crust and made as we wanted, medium rare. Great place quite abit out of the city center but definitely worth the drive there.

During my visit to Alicante, I had the pleasure of dining at Mesón Marinero, and it quickly became one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in a long time. This family run gem embodies everything you want from an authentic dining experience: passion, warmth, and exceptional food. One of the owners, who was also serving, made the lunch truly special. His enthusiasm for food and wine was contagious. He took the time to describe several bottles of wine in detail, helping us choose the perfect pairing for our meal. The attention to detail and personal touch made it feel like we were dining in someone’s home. The food? Simply outstanding. The Turbot in Castreña Way is an absolute must-try, perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and beautifully presented. Every dish was a celebration of local ingredients and tradition. To top it all off, the owner returned at the end of the meal with a selection of sweet wines for us to try, showcasing the same care and passion as before. I can’t wait to go back to Mesón Marinero. This place is a true reflection of what makes Spanish hospitality so special. Highly recommended!

Tips for Choosing the Best Seafood in Alicante

While the restaurants listed above are guaranteed to impress, knowing how to navigate the local dining culture will elevate your experience even further. Seafood in Alicante is deeply tied to seasonality and tradition, so a little local knowledge goes a long way in ensuring you get the best meal possible. Here are some key considerations to keep in mind when scanning a menu or planning your meal.

Look for Seasonal and Local Species
The Mediterranean has rhythms, and the best chefs cook according to them. Rather than always ordering salmon or cod, ask for what is local and in season. Species like dorada (sea bream), lubina (sea bass), and pulpo (octopus) are staples, but keep an eye out for specialties like salmonete (red mullet) or gamba roja (red prawn) when they are at their peak.

Understand the Difference Between "Farmed" and "Wild"
Menus often distinguish between de cría (farmed) and salvaje or de roca (wild or rock-caught). While farmed fish can be excellent and more affordable, wild fish generally offers a firmer texture and more complex flavor. If you see pescado de lonja (fish from the auction), it is a sign of high-quality, fresh sourcing.

Embrace the Rice Dishes
Seafood in Alicante is not just about grilled fillets. The region is the birthplace of rice dishes that are the pinnacle of seafood cookery. A proper arroz a banda or arroz del senyoret (peeled seafood rice) requires time and skill. Always ask if the rice is made to order (hecho al momento), as this indicates a kitchen that takes pride in its craft.

Don’t Overlook the Fried Fish
A true test of a Spanish seafood kitchen is its fritura (fried fish). A plate of boquerones, chipirones (baby squid), or puntillitas should be light, crispy, and grease-free. This is often the most affordable way to judge the quality of the oil and the freshness of the product.

Ask About the "Pescado del Día"
The best restaurants will have a selection of whole fish on ice or a list of the day’s catch that isn’t on the printed menu. Don’t be afraid to ask what came in that morning. The waiter will usually describe the fish and suggest the best way to have it prepared—often simply grilled with olive oil and lemon.

Alicante’s culinary identity is inextricably linked to the sea, and a meal here is as much about the atmosphere as it is about the food. Whether you are enjoying a long, lazy lunch with views of the marina or a late-night dinner in the winding streets of the old town, the quality of the seafood is a point of local pride.

By choosing one of the recommended restaurants and applying a few of these tips, you are setting yourself up for a memorable gastronomic journey. So pull up a chair, order a glass of vino blanco from Alicante’s own vineyards, and let the Mediterranean do the rest.
