10 Best Beach Cafes in Alicante

There is a particular rhythm to a day spent on Spain’s Costa Blanca. The morning begins with the sharp scent of salt and the soft hiss of the Mediterranean against the sand, but it is sustained by the rich aroma of freshly ground espresso drifting from a shaded terrace. In Alicante, the beach is not just a place to swim; it is a social theater, a place where the clinking of ceramic cups is as constant as the sound of the waves. Finding the right café here is not about grabbing a quick caffeine fix, but about pausing long enough to absorb the city’s vibrant coastal culture.

Alicante’s coastline offers a diverse tapestry of experiences, from the wide, urban sweep of Playa del Postiguet to the golden sands of San Juan. Each stretch of shore has its own personality, and the cafés that line the promenades reflect this diversity. Whether you are looking for a bohemian hideaway, a family-friendly brunch spot, or a chic place to watch the sunset with a glass of sangria, the city’s beachfront has a table waiting for you.

The best beach cafés in Alicante understand that the view is only part of the equation. They master the delicate balance of serving high-quality food and drinks while offering a respite from the intense Spanish sun. These are places where you can sit in a damp swimsuit without feeling out of place, yet the coffee is as serious as anything you would find in a specialty roastery in the city center.

For locals, the "chiringuito" or beach bar is an extension of their living room. It is where they gather after a morning swim, where families celebrate long Sunday lunches, and where friends debate the day’s news over "café con hielo" (coffee with ice). To visit these spots is to move beyond the tourist trail and experience the authentic pulse of Alicante life.

The culinary offerings have evolved significantly over the years. Gone are the days when beachside dining meant soggy sandwiches and bland fried fish. Today, many of Alicante’s coastal cafés pride themselves on sourcing local produce, offering Mediterranean brunch menus, and serving artisanal pastries that rival those found in the old town.

Choosing the right café can make or break your day at the beach. You might want a place with reliable Wi-Fi for a remote working session with a sea view, or perhaps a quiet corner to read a book while sipping a freshly squeezed orange juice. The geography of Alicante’s coast means you can find bustling, high-energy terraces as easily as you can find secluded, romantic corners hidden among the dunes.

To help you navigate the city’s vibrant seafront, we have curated a list of the ten best beach cafés that perfectly capture the essence of Alicante. These selections are based on the quality of their coffee, the strength of their menus, the beauty of their locations, and the overall atmosphere that makes you want to linger just a little bit longer.

I had an Aperol and sangria here and really enjoyed the experience. The drinks were nice, but the best part is definitely the view, absolutely stunning. Prices are a bit higher compared to bars just a couple of streets away, but the location and atmosphere make it worth it. Overall, a great spot to relax and definitely recommend it, especially for a drink by the sea🌅

Among the most pleasant bars on the beach for a refreshment with good quality drinks and coffee served by a cheerful and helpful staff. Thank you!

Great views, nice staff and delicious tinto de verano! We had some tapas and they were delicious too.

How could one better sitting facing the ocean on a sunny day. Glorious outdoor setting with some thought given to shade from overhead sun. Best for drinks though the snacks are ok given the limited kitchen means. I've been here over years and always a friendly staff. Presently the very handsome waiter with black framed glasses and glorious smile( Jorge) brings added charm. Waiters are efficient, friendly and hard working. The management could do with giving the waiters some anti bac spray for more extensive table cleaning than the quick flick , given the volume of people passing through. All in all on a sunny day a most pleasant place to be indeed.

Camila is a great waither! She is the best waiter I have met in Spain. I will come back just for her.

Located overlooking the marina in Alicante. Friendly service and reasonably priced drinks and most importantly WiFi. Didn't try the food so can't comment. One of the better sangrias we've had recently. 5*

Such a fabulous view of the sea. You can't help but love it. The staff are always very friendly even when they're busy. Tostadas are a good size. Coffee is ok.

A real gen of a typical ,tucked away bar/ restaurant in the centre of Alicante . However ,please note ,you do need to be able to walk quite a few stairs away from the tourists traps to locate this Venue. Climb 2 to 3 ,quite a few Steps of old town stairs- than you'll be able to relax ,unwind ,have a cold / hot drink & awesome tapas, mains & otherwise- however don't just turn up to find or get sitting on a table ,as there are only a hanful of tables available . Best to phone un advance & make a reservation & than proceed ,be promt - demand is high - availability low. Ok ,& Opens between - just around 10- 11a.m & Shurs @ 5.30pm or 9pm.- Enjoy - a little small plaza ,surrounded by palm trees - thus not an exotic place & its a typical Espania bar/ restaurant- serving daily ,fresh ,locally in season produce & normal staples ok

Good food, good prices and good views, but the service is extremely slow. We spent about 2 hours here for lunch because it took 20 minutes to get our drinks order, 20 minutes to take our food order, 20 more minutes to bring our food, 30 minutes to eat and get the bill and about 15 more to come and take payment. It wasn't even busy - there were about 5 tables taken when we sat down. This place has potential but the service speed really needs to be improved. It would also be good to clean the floor every now and then as there was a lot trash lying around.

Hi we stopped here on the way to the beach. All the seating is outside and had to wait 10 min for a table It was worth the wait we ordered baguettes and pizza and the food is great. We ordered 4 baguettes and 2 pizza's, 3 chips, 4 beers and 2 soft drinks and it came to €52 which wasn't too bad I thought. The food was great and fresh. The service was quick and friendly. I would recommend as a place to sit and eat. The views from the seating area were great too and it had shades up to protect you from the sun. Please do watch to video and if you liked it please like this post. Thanks

Very good food and prices. The portions are quite big for the appetisers and not so big for the main course. We could have been full with two of the appetisers.

Super bueno! My mom lives in the neighbourhood and told me she had gone once and I should try it out. It was excellent!!!! Waiter is very nice, friendly. We ordered pimentos de padron and super original smoked eggplant fries as a starter and then a paella. Everything was perfect! Good portions, great presentations and price. We paid 35euros for all that including a 1.5L bottle of water and a beer. And to top it off, the waiter gave us a local digestive on the house ✨ Definitely recommend!

This is an excellent place, tasty food, superb service and at very good prices. Rice was spectacular and the quality of the burger was just perfect. I highly recommend this place.

When they get it right is wow. Went there a few times and it wasn't much and service wasn't great but in one occasion it was exceptionally good and the food was amazing. Wish there was more consistency there. Great place (if you're lucky)

I got drunk here, it was a wonderful atmosphere and the view of the marina was very pleasant. Great place to escape the July heat and enjoy a grandé cervasa and some prosecco.

Great spot overlooking the marina, we’ve now enjoyed breakfast and lunch here with great service from Nicolas. Lovely breeze too with shade and sunshine seating options.

Dropped into here as recommended from previous people who were in the Apartment that we had rented. Very short walk for us, greeted straight away, sat on decking, ordered our drinks and just relaxed, free olives brought to table too. Had a great experience here, will definitely be back while on hols. Back here again, it's a great place, we like to sit on the deck area under the veranda, gives you a bit of relief from the sun, but sun comes through still. Best of both worlds. Just ordered food, will put up pictures later.
Alan Goodwin★★★★★
Great place for a light lunch or dinner. I had tuna tartar and it was excellent. The Russian salad was also very good. The menu was limited but the location was great overlooking the marina. It is in a quieter location away from the busier centre.

Nice little bar a close to the center. Went by for a glass of rose, but if you are in Spain always boquerones, always. The picture is the dish after I ate them

Every day at lunchtime we went up to Miramar right on the boardwalk, greeted by superfriendly staff. Our waiter Andres saw to us every day, making our days memorable with terrific service, strong English speaking skills, and the best food served. Absolutely made our week in Alicante a memory for life.

We were served by Tomas. He was friendly and kind! Food was amazing. Even though the restaurant is on the beach it was quiet and the view from the sea is amazing. Now we know why it is always full. Definitely we will come again!
Юлия Молод★★★★☆
The location is excellent-right by the beach and always busy, which creates a nice atmosphere. The food was okay, probably a 3 out of 5. It feels like something is missing from the menu-there aren’t many really special or flavorful options. One positive thing is that the entire menu includes photos, which makes it easier to choose. However, be aware that sometimes the dishes don’t exactly match the pictures. Overall, I would recommend this place more for their interesting cocktails with beautiful presentation rather than for the food.
000 ema★★★★★
The food was very good! They have a lot of traditional starters on their menu, such as patatas bravas oder croquettes (definitely should try them). The drinks are also very refreshing, there is also a selection of non-alcoholic ones. The service is also friendly. Enjoy your food while having a view over the sea!😊

Might look look a touristtrap due to the perfect location, but by any means, its far from that. We had a couple of drinks an dinner. Fair prices for excellent food and drinks. thanks

Sip is always our first stop for brunch / coffee when we visit Alicante. So we were really excited to see that they now opened in the evenings too. We went along for their evening opening and were SO impressed. Such creative, tasty seasonal food. I’m vegetarian and there was plenty for me to try, and my partner said the meat dishes were excellent too. Sharing plates kind of vibe, but not tiny plates like I’ve had elsewhere. We’ve been to many cafes/restaurants in different countries and we always say Sip is the one we wish we had in our neighbourhood! A real gem & always worth a visit, now in the evenings too! (Pictured is the INCREDIBLE cheese we had there, yum)
Soňa Ryboňová★★★★★
This was our first stop during our trip. We were hungry after the flight, so we had brunch here, and we really enjoyed it. Note: You need to go to the counter to place your order.
Frances Morley★★★★★
Such an amazing spot. We visited from the UK and this is by far the best coffee we had in Alicante. Super relaxed vibe with loads of room for either working or chilling. The food was so good too, and really nice to know that everything is made in house. Great for foodies and health conscious people too. Highly recommend the Turkish eggs on their sourdough! Yummy! Will be coming back and have already recommended it to family back home!
Martina Kostolanská★★★★★
Great quality coffee! We had large V60 for 8€. We could have chosen from three different origins (in the attached pictures) and we went with Floral mist from Huila, Colombia.

This was our first stop in Alicante after getting of the C6 bus from the airport. Our air bnb hosts recommend it and was just near the bus stop. We just had coffees which were great the food that we saw folks tucking into all looked great. It's not far from the market so handy if you want to rest up.

What a fantastic find in Alicante! We stopped in Blueloop for breakfast and loved it so much that we came back again later in the afternoon. Everything we tried was delicious. The coffee was outstanding, the sandwiches were amazing, and the cookies were absolutely incredible. The staff was welcoming, the atmosphere was cozy, and it was the perfect place to relax and recharge while exploring the city. If you’re in Alicante, this café is an absolute must-visit—we’ll definitely be back the next time we’re here!

A+ coffee shop with a beach front! The two flat whites I ordered were so warm and frothy. the stuffed date was good and so was the cubano sandwich however the price point is really high which is my only complain

Slow and poor service. Ordered 3 expensive sandwiches with tuna & onion, not tomato. Came with tomato. Sent back, they then said they had no onion so we said we would accept them with tomato so they brought just tuna. If you don't have something, tell us when we order and we can order something else. Waiter almost walked away without taking our 4th order then again we had to call him back to order drinks. Listen and follow simple instructions. Food not great quality. Not recommended.
Anna Matuszak★☆☆☆☆
Food poisoning alert! Sardinas are not fresh and smell rotten. They are not eatable at all. Avoid at any cost unless you want to spend your vacation in a hospital. We complained to the cook immediately and refused to eat. Even so this position was still on our check and we were forced to pay for rotten sardinas we couldn’t even consume afraid of food poisoning! Drinks are watery, full of ice. Staff pretends to not understand English in case of client complaining. This place is waste of money!
Luchilu Benav★★★★☆
Nice view. Excellent to relax. As for drinks…. Bad choice of beers. Terrible tinto de verano….. So. Just a place to go because is by the beach. Don’t aspect anything more.
Dane Reay★☆☆☆☆
Chicken burgers undercooked, didnt finish food to avoid food poisoning, also questionable if the meat patty was actually chicken. Told us they had no salad for the burger after we ordered. Food waited at the bar to be served for several minutes before we went to grab it ourselves and they stopped us saying they would bring it over 5 minutes later. We were still made to pay for everything. Location is great, shame about the staff, service, quality of food.

Outstanding Mediterranean flavors in the heart of Alicante! If you are looking for an authentic culinary experience in Alicante, **Restaurante Mediterraneum** is an absolute must-visit. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the warm atmosphere and the exceptional quality of the food. Every dish we ordered was a highlight: The Octopus: Perfectly tender, expertly grilled, and packed with authentic coastal flavor. Garlic Shrimp (Gambas al Ajillo): Sizzling, aromatic, and bursting with fresh garlic and olive oil—truly irresistible. The Calamari: Crispy on the outside, incredibly tender on the inside, and fried to absolute perfection. Beyond the incredible food, the service was remarkably "fast and efficient", with a friendly staff that made us feel right at home. It is clear that the kitchen takes pride in using only top-quality, fresh ingredients. Whether you are a local or a visitor exploring Alicante, Restaurante Mediterraneum delivers an unforgettable dining experience. We cannot wait to come back!

Incredible food and such friendly and quick service. The paella was the best I've ever had, the half roast chicken fell off the bone, the fish was lovely (watch for bones) and steak was very tasty. Desserts and cocktails/beer were fantastic too! Seating is outside and right by the beach giving lovely views as you enjoy your meal. The staff are so friendly, it was a pleasure to visit!
Sed★★★★★
This place is just by the popular beach, that was the reason I was a bit worried about the service and the food taste! But I was totally wrong. The service, foods and drinks were amazing and delicious. I know It’s a bit pricey but the view is worth it. We tried Arroz .
G Whizz★★★★★
We had a very good lunch at Mediterraneum in Alicante. The main reason for the 5★ rating is the location, the views, and the overall Mediterranean feel — the setting truly makes the experience. The food itself is also pretty good, around a solid 4/5: well prepared, tasty, and consistent, even if not overly creative. A great spot for a relaxed lunch with a view.
Jesse Herrera★★★★★
Great service, environment and food! The restaurant was packed and right on the beach. We ordered the arroz, octopus and fried fish and accompanied them with a cold Aguila and Sangria. The service was better than most places in Spain, they were friendly and everyone was steadily and swiftly taking care of their guests. Check them out!

How to Choose the Right Beach Café in Alicante

While the list above offers the best of the best, your perfect experience depends on what you are looking for on a specific day. The vibe on a Tuesday morning is vastly different from a Saturday evening in July. Understanding the rhythm of Alicante’s beach culture will help you pick the right terrace for your mood, whether you are after a quiet caffeine boost or a lively social scene.

Timing is Everything: If you want to enjoy a peaceful coffee with an unobstructed view of the Mediterranean, aim to arrive before 10:00 AM. This is when the beaches are mostly occupied by local swimmers and retirees. By noon, the energy shifts to a busier, family-oriented lunch crowd, and by late afternoon, the music volume often increases as the cafés transition into evening aperitif mode.

Look for the "Tostada" Special: While pancakes and avocado toast are widely available, the true local breakfast is "tostada con tomate" (toasted bread with crushed tomato and olive oil) or "tostada con aguacate y salmón." Pair this with a "café con leche" or a fresh Valencian orange juice for an authentic start to your beach day.

Consider the Shade and Breeze: The Alicante sun is beautiful but intense. A great café isn’t just about the view; it is about the infrastructure. Look for terraces with natural shade from palm trees or high-quality awnings. Additionally, check which way the terrace faces—a café that catches the Levante (east wind) breeze will be significantly more comfortable during the hot summer months than one that is blocked by a building.

Check the Footwear Policy: While most beach cafés are extremely relaxed, some of the more upscale "beach clubs" on San Juan might have dress codes or minimum spend requirements for the premium front-row loungers. If you are planning to walk straight off the sand with sandy feet, a traditional chiringuito or a casual café is usually a safer and more welcoming bet.

Watch for the "Menú del Día": If you are planning to spend the whole day by the water, look for cafés that offer a "Menú del Día" (Menu of the Day) during lunch hours. This usually includes a starter, main course, dessert, and a drink for a fixed, reasonable price. It is the best way to eat well without overspending on the tourist strip.

Alicante’s beach cafés are more than just pit stops; they are destinations in their own right. They offer a chance to slow down, to feel the sea air on your skin, and to taste the flavors of the Mediterranean without rushing. Whether you are people-watching from a shaded terrace on the Postiguet or recovering from a swim on the vast sands of San Juan, the perfect cup of coffee is never more than a few steps away.

As the sun begins to dip and the sky turns shades of orange and pink, the terraces fill once more. It is the hour when the coffee cups are traded for glasses of chilled white wine or vermouth. In these moments, watching the lights flicker on along the promenade, you understand why the beach café is such a sacred institution in Alicante. It is where the city comes to breathe.
