Alicante’s coastline is a sun-drenched stretch of the Costa Blanca where golden sand meets the deep blue Mediterranean. For travelers who want to wake up to the sound of gentle waves and have the shoreline just steps from their room, the city offers a remarkable range of beachfront and near-beach accommodations. Choosing the right hotel can transform a simple vacation into a seamless blend of comfort, convenience, and coastal charm.
The city is divided into distinct beach zones, each with its own personality. The main urban beach, Playa del Postiguet, sits right at the foot of the historic Santa Bárbara Castle, offering a unique mix of city energy and seaside relaxation. A short tram ride away lies Playa de San Juan, a vast, open expanse of soft sand that is favored by locals for its space, cleanliness, and excellent swimming conditions.
For those seeking a more intimate or exclusive atmosphere, the coves and marinas of Cabo de las Huertas provide a quieter retreat. These rocky inlets and small sandy bays are perfect for snorkeling and paddleboarding. The area is primarily residential, which means the hotels here tend to be smaller, more boutique in style, and offer a peaceful escape from the busy city center.
Understanding the difference between these neighborhoods is the first step to booking the perfect stay. Whether you are planning a romantic getaway, a family holiday, or a solo adventure, Alicante’s accommodation scene is diverse. From grand, historic properties that have hosted royalty to modern, minimalist apartments with rooftop pools, there is a beach hotel for every taste and budget.
The best beach hotels in Alicante are not just about location; they are about the experience. Look for properties that offer direct beach access, sea-view terraces, and amenities like outdoor pools or beach clubs. Many of the top-tier hotels also provide services such as bicycle rentals, water sports equipment, and on-site dining that focuses on fresh, local seafood.
Accessibility is another key factor that sets these hotels apart. The tram line runs parallel to the coast, making it easy to hop between the city center, San Juan Beach, and the charming coastal villages further north. Staying at a hotel with good transport links allows you to explore the historic old town, the marina, and the wider Costa Blanca without needing a car.
Below, we have curated a list of properties that consistently deliver exceptional stays. They have been selected based on their proximity to the sand, guest reviews, and the quality of their facilities. Whether you want a five-star resort or a cozy, family-run spot, this guide will help you find your ideal base on the Alicante coast.

We stayed two nights at the Hotel Albahía. The room was pretty nice and spacious, and we had a private balcony. The swimming pool was fantastic, so relaxing with a beautiful view. The staff was nice, the food at the restaurant was delicious and great value (especially for lunch). The negative aspects were that it’s quite hard to find the hotel entrance, and there were quite a few ants in our room. Otherwise, it was pretty good value for what it is. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay in Alicante if you don’t care about being near the city center.

Nice quiet Hotel right next to the shore. Very helpful and polite staff. Free parking in three public parking lots. Clean rooms with AC, deluxe rooms with balcony facing the sea. A little bit outside of the city center. The hotel is located in the bottom three floors of a big apartment building, so the outside appearance is not like a flashy 5 star tourist hotel. It is rather large and has access to a gym and a pool as well as tennis courts. The breakfast is delicious and plenty. The breakfast area doubles as a modestly priced restaurant for lunch and dinner and also this food is delicious. Google maps is directing you nicely to the hotel and there are direction signs at the main roads although the hotel is located on a quiet side street and a bit unintuitively to find. Good spot as a base for exploring Alicante and the surroundings. There also seems to be a scuba dive shop/base just next door.

We stayed 1 Week in the Hotel. The Rooms are on a 3 star level and the pool is good, even though there are some wasps and other insects. The Lobby is renovated. The Restaurant in the Hotel is very bad. The Food is served stone cold and it isn’t made fresh. The Ac in the room sometimes doesn’t work and the wifi doesn’t work at all. The Rooms have a foul smell too. The Hotel is not worth the price.

At first I was thinking the hotel is alright. The rooms were clean and decent but had a stench to them which was unpleasant. Then we had dinner at the hotel: terrible. The pasta was way too soft and I asked for macaroni and they gave me penne. In general these are things you can look over but not if are that many. My boyfriend’s dishes took forever to come and both the soup and the chicken were completely cold. We payed over 30€ for a cold meal which took almost 40 minutes. I think this is not a good service. Then I was at the pool with my hair down for four days, no one ever complained. Suddenly the lifeguard comes over and tells me I need to wear a hair tie for whatever reason. In every other pool or hotel I NEVER had to wear one. The cherry on top was that there was a younger girl with almost the same length of hair who didn’t have to wear a hair tie. I think such behaviour is unacceptable and if you’re forcing one person to wear a hair tie then everyone else should have to wear one. I am very disappointed of the hotel and I’ve never experienced such a weird rule.

We had a very nice stay. The room was spacious, clean and with a nice balcony view of the sea. The area is rather peacefull and far away from the bustling city of Alicante but we enjoyed nice evenings on the balcony. Tram is 5-7 minutes away from the hotel, bus stop is very close by but a steep walk up the hill. Breakfast selection is rather basic but sufficient. Overall good value. 🙂

Lovely hotel pool a little small but location and staff were amazing.
The only fault I could find was we booked a junior suite with sea view and one with Marina view.
The difference was that the room sizes were smaller in the sea view. By the time I made up the sofa bed there was not even any room to walk round it.
That's the only fault we found.

The location of the hotel is beautiful. The staff are very friendly. We had a issue with the room upon check-in which reception did their upmost to resolve. Guest experience manager Andrea was very helpful the next day and we changed room. Queries regarding where to eat, etc where helpfully answered and enhanced our stay in Alicante.
The food in the Trasluz wasn't upto the same standard as the food in the rest of the hotel. The breakfast was very fresh, tasty and very clean.
The hotel was clean and very relaxing.
I would visit again.

Spacious rooms and great location, with just a couple of minor downsides
We had a great 6 nights stay here. The room was spacious with plenty of luggage space, immaculately clean, and featured a very comfortable bed. The highlight was definitely the nice balcony with a lovely port view.
The location is excellent—just a 5-minute walk to the old town and a few minutes from the beach. The staff was friendly and provided great service. While the gym is sufficient, the swimming pool, though a decent size, was packed with kids all day. This is clearly a popular spot for family vacations!
The only real downside was the Wi-Fi, which was incredibly slow. Overall, a lovely stay if you don't mind a lively, family-friendly atmosphere!

Promises much, don't live up to it.
Inside is much better than outside. Breakfast is quality, great views from restaurant. Rooms ok, although they did organise my kids room with a double and a single I atead of 3 singles. Were apparently unable to change it.
Outside, the pool is much smaller than the impression given online. Every poolside sunbed is 'towelled up' by people going to breakfast by am (why the hotel allows it I don't know), not nearly enough room given the hotel size. The other outdoor spot is the Solarium in which you'll turn into a crisp as there is no shade or umbrellas. Not enough staff or speed in the pool bar.
My kids room overlooked the Inside pool which was much quieter and looked great in comparison.
Car parking under the hotel is €20 a day.
Location is great though.

We loved our stay The Melia Alicante. We stayed 4 nights in a LEVEL room. Location is fantastic with everything in easy reach. Not that we strayed too far from the hotel on this visit as we didn't really need too!! Breakfast in the LEVEL lounge was lovely each morning - We did book Full Board but we didn't have lunch on any of the days we were there as we were always to full from breakfast!! Dinner in Trasluz on 3 of the 4 nights was really good as well and we even tried the buffet on our last night and this was also excellent. The best part of any good hotel like this of course is the staff - And the Melia Alicante did not disappoint, everyone we interacted with was a credit to the hotel!! Well done and we will be back soon!!

Lovely hotel by San Juan Beach. Easy walking distance to a number of bars & restaurants. The beach is across the road.
The staff were lovely, especially in the bar. The menu in the restaurant gave a lot of choice.
There is a small gym on the 1st floor and you can book a massage from Reception.
The pool has its own bar where you can order drinks and small snacks, including ice cream.
The rooms and bathroom are clean and the pressure on the shower is lovely.

I recently had a 3 day stay at this amazing hotel. The staff are fantastic, but what's more is the architecture! Absolutely stunning! The breakfast buffet was absolutely huge! It had pretty much everything for every taste of many cultures. The rooms are large and the layout is amazing. Great location, numerous conciergeries, and no annoying wristbands. All this at prices lower than the other large corporate hotel chains. Definitely worth the stay. The pictures of the pool are a bit deceiving. It’s a smaller, oval-shaped pool – but still rather nice with chairs and lounges all around – including some very nice, shady spaces. There are a bar and grill located at the pool. A very nice touch. This feels like a 5 star hotel.

If you are looking for the perfect blend of a beachfront lifestyle and a relaxing golf getaway, look no further than Hotel Almirante. Our stay here was absolutely incredible, and we are already planning our next trip back!
Here is what made our stay so special:
Unbeatable Location: You are literally soaking up the Mediterranean sun right on the beachfront. It’s just a short, effortless walk straight onto the sand. Plus, being just off the Costa Blanca TRAM line made exploring the area incredibly convenient.
The Room: Our room felt luxurious, exceptionally clean, and wonderfully comfortable. It looked newly remodeled with a fresh, modern design that we loved coming back to each night.
The Food: Breakfast here is exceptional, especially if you love starting your day with healthy options. I had a delicious spread of eggs, Greek yogurt, fresh local fruit, and a perfectly made double espresso.
Amenities & Service: The swimming pool area is fantastic for unwinding after a day on the golf course or the beach. To top it all off, the staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful throughout our entire stay.
We will definitely be back! Highly recommended to anyone visiting Alicante.

We had a fantastic stay at Hotel Almirante! The location is perfect, just a short walk from the beautiful San Juan Beach, which has plenty of restaurants, cafés, and services, and it’s also only a short drive from Alicante city centre.
We stayed in a Panorama Room, and the view was absolutely amazing. The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly, and we also really enjoyed the restaurant.
A couple of small suggestions: more comfortable mattresses, more modern TVs, and an air pump for children’s inflatables would make the experience even better.
We would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful pool and wonderful food and service in the lounge and restaurant. All staff were exceptional. We stayed in the premium room and it met all our needs. Would absolutely recommend to families and couples looking for comfortable accommodation within walking distance to the Playa San Juan.

A very clean and cozy hostel! The staff is friendly and ready to help, they helped me rent a bicycle when I needed. Also for a small fee it was possible to organize a late check in, cause my plane arrived at night. Close to the beach, newly renovated rooms 🙂

I got a single room. You get what you paid for. Very clean, but tidy. No parking, but it's possible to find a spot not far from the hostal. No shops around at all, but possible to find a kind of restaurant not too far from. 5 min to a very nice beach.

I didn’t like anything. Everything was awful from start to end. Really nasty room. Non of the utilities were found. The WiFi disconnected every 5-10 minutes. Cracked door and dust and other nastiness EVERYWHERE. The staff didn’t answer any calls and did not get back to me either, not even the next day or after the checkout. I didn’t see the staff at any time after I got the gross room. A couple lived in the next room and was shouting, fighting, arguing, banging on walls etc from 4pm o’clock until 06am so I paid for no sleep and got no help or support. I want my money back. Worst money spent in my ever. DO NOT RECOMMEND

BEDBUGS EVERYWHERE! They scared my face and body!
An awful stay in it, health threatening, I got scars on my face and body, swollen and bitten by bedbugs. The establishment is completely resilient to take responsibility for the lack of hygiene and health standards of any establishment. The bedsheets were also dirty. They did not reimburse the money. I don’t recommend this place at all. I don’t want this to happen to anyone.

I recommend this place if you low in budget but still want to find a place can enjoy beach, delicious food and convenient transportation.
It’s just near the tram station, every 15mins have one to the Alicante central area only take 20ish mins.
Small room but with very good bathroom, the water pressure and heat are just fine.
Cafeteria has GREAT local food and service, unfortunately the Arroz have a 2 person minimum, It’s a bad news for solo travelers, I really want to eat it so ordered it, the portion definitely needs 2 people😂
Elena gives me a really good service, I definitely will come back❤️

Stayed here for four nights and the location is marvelous , right on the beach, with the sea and palm trees from the terrace. Our room was renovated, clean, with a comfortable bed, working AC, and a spotless bathroom. The hotel restaurant is nothing special, but there are plenty of good restaurants, beach bars, and a market nearby, and Alicante centre is a quick tram ride away. The staff were genuinely kind, especially the girl from Croatia at reception. Highly recommend.

Despite some negative reviews, my experience was good. Ok! I know I was staying here mid April, but my evening meal ( pork tenderloin and goats cheese ) and wine was just lovely.
Keep it going guys 👍

The location is first class. Right next to the beach, tram stop and fortunately not too far from other places to eat and drink.
The service was really quite poor. Especially the older waiter with the beard who was unbelievably rude.
I am not a spanish speaker but always try to use at least a few words. This man was dismissive to the point of being contemptuous. I was ignored totally on two occasions. And because of that I will not return and will certainly tell friends and family to avoid the hotel.
The rooms have thin walls and the shouting and screaming of adults and children alike kept me awake at night. Coupled with noisy plumbing it made for a disturbed night.

A good option for the money!
The hotel was a pleasant surprise with a combination of convenient location, easy access to transportation and a large number of restaurants nearby. The check-in was not without difficulties - at first the reception did not understand English, but at the time of check-out everything was fine, the staff spoke English.
There were ants in the room, but this is rather a trifle against the background of the overall impression.
The reception is open around the clock, which is a big plus.
Breakfasts are a bit monotonous, I would like more options, but the pool is nice and adds to the pleasant experience of staying.
By the way, I noticed a mention of "Russian salad" on the website - if this is outdated information, it would be great to update it. If you update it, I will definitely increase the rating.

We had a wonderful stay at The Level at Meliá Alicante and would definitely recommend it.
The hotel has a fantastic location, making it a great choice for exploring Alicante. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well equipped with everything we could possibly need during our stay. The sea view was absolutely fantastic.
The Level team deserves a special mention. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and genuinely committed to taking care of all our needs. Hisham, in particular, provided exceptional service and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. His professionalism and attention to detail really stood out.
We would definitely recommend choosing The Level when booking. The adults-only setting creates a more peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, and the additional service and attention make it well worth choosing.
The only area where we feel there could be some improvement is the breakfast, but overall, this was a fantastic experience. We would happily return and highly recommend The Level at Meliá Alicante for a relaxing stay with excellent service and beautiful sea views.

What a great experience we have had at Melia The Level Alicante! I couldn't recommend this hotel enough. The Melia brand always deliver. We have just returned from a wonderful stay at the Meliá Level Hotel and cannot praise the team enough. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel so welcome, and as it was my birthday, they made the occasion incredibly special and memorable.
A special thank you to Gloria at breakfast service, who was always smiling, friendly, and attentive. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and she made every morning a pleasure.
We would also like to recognise Alejandro, who works tirelessly around the pool and bar areas. His professionalism, friendliness, and willingness to help truly enhanced our holiday experience. He is a real asset to the hotel and a credit to the Meliá team.
Thank you all for making our stay so enjoyable. We had an amazing time and will definitely be returning.

I spend here 5 nights with my Partner. This is the 5th LEVEL we experience and by far and without exaggeration: This one's truly the best. A rich variety in cold and hot alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and never short on anything. The food and Snacks are excellent: They have a kitchen behind the LEVEL scenes and prepare a range of delicious dishes: Very yummie! The Service assistants here are very kind and friendly. You know what, one I found outstanding: Ariel does a perfect job! When it comes to check-in assistants and middle management level: Skills in handling challenges could definitely improve. Feel free to contact me for Feedback. A true highlight: The Open Bar hour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. If you're in the process of booking your next vacation at The Level Melia Alicante: Yes, do and indulge in spending the money. We had a regular room btw. We found it very well and up to date renovated and loved the balcony. But: It's small, very small.

We paid extra for upgrade and it was well worth it! Beautiful hotel beautiful bedroom and the view! . Breakfast is delicious, coffee, fresh fruit. Great location, near beach.
Great clean gym.
Downside was cold pool, rooms are not cleaned or bedding changed, things went missing, not friendly workers…. Told to wait till 4 as that’s standard procedure but not told the truth that there was an issue with plumbing.. as others very allowed to check in early. Just be honest. Not giving nothing for free not even a water. No signs in elevator which floor is which or on walls…. Shocked how unfriendly Spanish people are towards others . Would definitely never visit again.
Tips for Choosing the Right Beach Hotel in Alicante
Before you finalize your booking, it is worth considering a few practical details that can make a significant difference to your stay. Alicante’s beach areas each have a distinct character, and the right choice depends heavily on the type of trip you are planning. The following tips will help you match a hotel to your specific travel style, ensuring you get the most value and enjoyment from your time on the Costa Blanca.
First, think carefully about the beach experience you want. If you prefer a lively atmosphere with chiringuitos, beach volleyball, and easy access to ice cream shops, the area around Playa de San Juan is ideal. If you want to step out of your hotel and straight into the historic center for tapas and sightseeing, a hotel near Playa del Postiguet is the better choice. For quiet mornings with a coffee overlooking a rocky cove, look toward Cabo de las Huertas.
Second, check the hotel’s actual walking distance to the sand, not just the description. Some hotels advertise themselves as “beach hotels” but are separated from the shore by a busy road or a long block of apartments. Use a map view to measure the real distance, and if possible, look at recent guest photos to see the route you would be walking in your swimsuit.
Third, consider the season of your visit. Alicante is a year-round destination, but the atmosphere changes dramatically. In July and August, beachfront hotels are buzzing and often require early booking. In the shoulder seasons of May, June, and September, the weather is still warm enough for swimming, but the beaches are far less crowded, and hotel rates are often significantly lower.
Fourth, think about parking and transport. If you are renting a car to explore the Costa Blanca, confirm that your hotel has on-site parking or a discounted arrangement with a nearby garage. Parking near the beaches can be very difficult in summer. If you are not renting a car, choose a hotel close to a tram stop for easy access to the city and other beaches.
Fifth, pay attention to the room category. A hotel may be on the beach, but not every room will have a sea view. If waking up to a view of the Mediterranean is a priority for you, book a specific room type that guarantees it. The extra cost is often worth it for the experience, especially for a special occasion.
Sixth, look for flexible cancellation policies. Travel plans can change, especially when relying on flights and seasonal weather. Booking a room with free cancellation up to a few days before arrival gives you peace of mind and allows you to adjust your dates if you find a better deal or the forecast changes.
Finally, read recent reviews with a specific focus. Instead of just looking at the overall score, search the reviews for keywords like “noise,” “cleanliness,” “breakfast,” and “beach access.” This will give you a much more accurate picture of what to expect than the hotel’s own marketing photos and descriptions.
Alicante’s beach hotels offer something for every kind of traveler, from the solo backpacker who wants a simple room near the waves to the couple seeking a luxury suite with a private terrace. The key is to match the hotel’s strengths to your own priorities. By taking the time to research the neighborhood, the room type, and the practical details, you can avoid disappointment and set yourself up for a truly memorable stay.
The Costa Blanca is known for its light, its food, and its relaxed pace of life. Staying right on the beach allows you to embrace all of that from the moment you wake up. Whether you spend your days swimming, sailing, or simply reading under an umbrella, the right hotel will make the Mediterranean feel like your own backyard.
