Finding a reliable pharmacy in Saint-Malo is about more than just filling a prescription. Whether you are a resident navigating the cobbled streets of Intra-Muros or a visitor who has been caught out by the Breton wind and sudden changes in weather, access to trusted healthcare advice is essential.
The French pharmacy system is highly regulated, ensuring that you receive professional service whether you need complex medication, baby care, or simple sun protection. In a historic port city like Saint-Malo, pharmacies often serve as the first point of contact for minor ailments, especially when a doctor’s appointment isn’t immediately available.
Many local pharmacies offer services beyond dispensing medication, including orthopaedic fittings, homeopathic advice, and cosmetic consultations. They also play a vital role in the community by providing vaccination services and health screenings throughout the year.
Navigating opening hours and finding a "pharmacie de garde" (on-call pharmacy) during nights or Sundays can be tricky for newcomers. This guide aims to simplify that search by highlighting establishments known for their professionalism, stock availability, and helpful staff.
Whether you need a specific French brand of skincare, pediatric medicine, or simply a pharmacist who speaks English to explain dosage instructions, Saint-Malo has excellent options. The following list focuses on pharmacies that consistently receive high marks for customer care and accessibility.
Below is a curated selection of the best pharmacies in Saint-Malo, chosen for their central locations, range of services, and reputation for attentive care.

Excellent pharmacy! Unbeatable prices, but what I really appreciate is the attentive service and helpful advice from most of the pharmacists. They know their products well, even in the area of micronutrients. There's very little staff turnover, which makes the whole experience more personal. Special mention goes to the pharmacy manager, who, in addition to being competent, is always smiling and respectful.
Maxime Caillere★★★★★

I asked the pharmacy to cancel my scheduled teleconsultation appointment at 10:00 AM. It's now 6:50 PM and the pharmacist still hasn't canceled the appointment on Doctolib.
Not very professional.

Always good advice. Very pleasant staff. Prices at the lowest. Fast service despite the high volume of customers.

Like in other places... some staff or managers, I'm not really sure, aren't very pleasant, to say the least... while others are very attentive, caring, and always have a big smile.
And if I keep coming back to your place... it's because of those people who are true professionals and, above all, humane.

Really helpful and informed staff. Prescribing me natural oregano as an antibiotic which worked AMAZINGLY well. I love French pharmacies. They are always great with wonderful holistic alternatives/ especially helpful when you can’t get to a doctor abroad easily.
Mirta G★★★★★
They had a good variety of several (not all) famous French drugstore brands. I was surprised by the cashier who on her own initiative gave me a nice variety of free samples. The kind of little thing that makes your day
Ruby Kitson★★★★★
Excellent service, the personal was so helpful I got a test there and treatment for an infection for less than 40€. If you’re on vacation and need anything this is the place.

Apotheke des Vertrauens.
I'm super happy with the customer service. The doctor made a mistake with my prescription and Anaïs, who spoke english with me, supported and helped me to understand the french documents. She was super nice and helpful and without her patience I still wouldn't have figured out how I get my medication.

Having been a regular customer at this pharmacy, I've never had any problems until Saturday, June 6th, around 6:40 PM, when a woman who appeared to be the only employee at the time refused to give me my entire hormone treatment, addressing me as "sir" even though she knew I was transgender.
This is transphobic and likely racist behavior for an employee to exhibit when she's alone, while everyone else seems to be doing a good job.
Therefore, I won't be able to take my medication. I'll have to get a new prescription because she indicated on my health insurance card that she had already dispensed it.
Erwan CLOAREC★☆☆☆☆
Kenza★☆☆☆☆
I have to leave a review; this is unacceptable. They refused to give my boyfriend the morning-after pill, claiming that the person who needs to take it has to come and get it. Completely absurd. We went to another pharmacy. They dispensed it to him directly.
According to the law, they are obligated to provide it free of charge to young people under 26.
He encountered an unfriendly elderly woman; her colleagues nearby said nothing and considered his behavior/choice normal, I suppose??
This situation is already causing a lot of stress; it's not right to add to the pressure and potentially not even get the pill on top of it.
Bertrand Bonny★☆☆☆☆
Given the owner's harsh reactions to the reviews, I felt compelled to respond as well.
I can confirm that the pharmacist's attitude is unpleasant. She's very haughty towards her customers (even when you arrive with a smile and a greeting).
My health insurance card was refused (and returned without any consideration) because my prescription was for a trip I was going on vacation (of course, I was planning to restock my first-aid kit for a 15-day trip – irony!). According to this pharmacist, I should have asked my doctor for two prescriptions! One for my Ventolin (for my dust mite allergy) and the other for the box of paracetamol and an anti-nausea medication that my doctor had prescribed.
Instead of clearly explaining the situation (her explanation was unclear and she tried to evade the issue), she refused to listen. I can understand that a Doliprane prescribed by a doctor might not be reimbursed (we're not talking about 2.5 euros here), but Ventolin is (because of a single prescription!!). This pharmacist's verdict is in! Well...
Considering the owner's responses to the situations mentioned, some of them are rather harsh to read, with no questioning of the situation; it's always the customer who's wrong... I'm not saying the customer is always right, but this is the first time I've personally encountered such unpleasant behavior.
Fortunately for me and for anyone reading this, they're not the only ones in the neighborhood. I'm going back to my favorite pharmacy (nearby), which, oddly enough, has much better Google reviews.

Friendly efficient staff. Often hard to find a pharmacy in a tourist area.
Steve Bennett★★★★★
Very friendly and helpful staff.
henri beguin★★★★★
It's now the only pharmacy in the city center. The staff takes the time with each customer, even the most difficult ones.
They have a wide range of products, including baby items.
Yes, it's small, yes, they don't have much stock (where else would they store it?), and yes, there might be a wait, which is normal when a dozen people, including foreigners, are crammed in there.
But that's perfectly normal.
I really don't understand the bad reviews.
Nathalie Adaine★☆☆☆☆
The service was appalling. The staff simply watched the person who came in without saying hello (for the one at the counter), or went back to the stockroom after a quick glance (for the other).
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
Cleo Riposte★★★★★
I wanted to leave a positive review earlier, but I couldn't remember the pharmacy's name since there's only one now.
I was served by a lovely pharmacist named Sonia. She took the time one evening, even though it was closing time, to give me a strep throat test. Competent and friendly ☺️ The pharmacy is very well-stocked since the renovations; I recommend it!

It's a real shame... I'm a regular at this pharmacy, and the pharmacists are used to my situation and usually give good advice. Most of the staff are very pleasant. Except for two people who would be better suited as prison guards than pharmacists. One of them had the nerve to tell my mother that, overall, she manages her son better than my mother does, and complained that my situation was too complicated, all because she received two calls from my doctor... Going through all that training only to be overwhelmed by two calls leaves me perplexed. She also complained that my mother had to pick up my medication (with my consent) because I was sleeping, being very tired from my illness. I tend to fall asleep without realizing it, but time passed, and my mother had to go get my medication for me. She was rudely told off, being told that I shouldn't be sleeping at that hour. Who are these people? Doctors? I don't think so. Therefore, I returned the next day to get my medication, which had been refused the day before, and once again encountered a VERY KIND (irony intended) woman who made the same kind of comments as the woman from the previous day, telling me I should learn to manage my medication. Here's the problem: I'm dependent on this medication, I'm under the care of several doctors, including an addiction specialist, and she feels entitled to speak without knowing anything about my situation, all while complaining once again about the "complexity" of my situation, apparently. Anyway... Last time at this pharmacy, and I'm removing two stars for the two rude and VERY unprofessional women. Otherwise, as I said before, the rest of the staff is lovely, but beware of the two shrews who lurk around.
Karim Idir★☆☆☆☆
They have to choose who to put behind the counter under the pretext that the medications are only for French people and not for foreigners, but luckily there were other pharmacies that welcomed and served me well.
Sylvie GUY★★★★★
Excellent service, well-stocked.
The only slight drawback: the wait is always a little long.
Justine Remond★☆☆☆☆
Yesterday I went in with my prescription and they sold me magnesium for 16 euros a box. It was disgusting, and I got a headache from their product. Their prices have gone up and some medications are no longer covered by social security. Plus, they told me, "Oh, it's not easy, take care of yourself." Of course, it cost me 30 euros last time I went there...

A good and solid mall with friendly staff, except the bald-headed security guy who is very unfriendly. I took a photo from the hairdresser store for my wife who was looking for one at the other end of the mall and apparently this is "forbidden". Are you kidding me or do you just make this mall your little kingdom where you, being a low life security guard, can rule like a king? You should really treat customers better.

While passing through St. Malo, we had the pleasure of discovering this large pharmacy.
There were certainly people patiently waiting their turn, but we immediately understood why.
Beyond the wide variety of products offered, each person received the attention and time they deserved.
In particular, we wanted to highlight Laura's gentleness, attentiveness, kindness, and professionalism. She was able to find a routine perfectly suited to my husband.
We will gladly return!

Tips for Choosing a Pharmacy in Saint-Malo
While most pharmacies in France operate under strict national regulations, the experience can vary significantly based on location, size, and staff specialization. Understanding a few local nuances can save you time and ensure you get the precise help you need, especially if you are visiting from abroad or managing a specific health condition.
Check the "Garde" Schedule: Pharmacies rotate night and Sunday duties. If you need medicine outside standard hours, look for the "pharmacie de garde" posted on the door of any closed pharmacy or check the local police station listings.
Bring Your Prescription (Or the Box): If you are trying to refill a medication from your home country, French pharmacists cannot dispense without a valid prescription from a European doctor. However, if you bring the empty box, they can often suggest a temporary French equivalent or direct you to a doctor.
Look for the Green Cross: While most use this symbol, a flashing or illuminated green cross usually indicates the pharmacy is currently open. In the Intra-Muros area, space is tight, so some pharmacies are smaller; if they lack stock, they can often order it for delivery by the afternoon.
Ask About Teleconsultation: Many modern pharmacies in Saint-Malo now have private booths equipped for teleconsultations. If you need a prescription but cannot get a doctor’s appointment, the pharmacist can set up a video call with a licensed physician on the spot.
Check for Parapharmacy Sections: If you are looking for luxury French skincare brands (like Avène, La Roche-Posay, or Bioderma) or specific baby formulas, larger pharmacies on the outskirts of the city center often have a dedicated "parapharmacie" area with testers and better stock than smaller boutiques.
Keep Your Carte Vitale Handy: If you are a resident, always have your Carte Vitale (or a digital copy) ready. This ensures your prescription is processed through the national health system quickly, reducing out-of-pocket costs and paperwork.
Whether you are staying within the ancient walls or exploring the Paramé district, having a go-to pharmacy ensures peace of mind during your time in Saint-Malo. The local pharmacists are known for their discretion and willingness to go the extra mile to explain treatments clearly.
By choosing a reputable establishment from the list above, you can focus less on logistics and more on enjoying the stunning coastal views and rich maritime history this Breton city has to offer.
