Finding the right pharmacy in Arles is about more than just filling a prescription. Whether you are a resident navigating the French healthcare system or a traveler who has unexpectedly run out of essential medication, knowing where to go saves you time and stress. In a city rich with history and winding pedestrian streets, accessibility and specific services matter just as much as location.
French pharmacies, or pharmacies, are highly regulated and offer a standard of care that is often higher than what visitors might expect from their home countries. Pharmacists here are trained to provide medical advice for minor ailments, recommend appropriate over-the-counter treatments, and ensure you understand your prescribed regimen. However, not all pharmacies offer the same level of convenience regarding opening hours, homeopathic stock, or specialized equipment.
This guide is designed to help you navigate the local landscape with confidence. We have evaluated pharmacies based on their proximity to the city center, customer service reputation, and the range of services they provide. Whether you need a late-night emergency refill, pediatric medicine, or specific dermo-cosmetic brands, this list aims to connect you with the right professionals.
Please remember that while this list highlights some of the most reliable options, your first stop should always be the pharmacy closest to your current location in an emergency. In France, all pharmacies display a green cross, often illuminated, making them easy to spot. If you are staying in the historic center, many of these options are within walking distance of the major landmarks.
Below, we have compiled a list of the best pharmacies in Arles, taking into account their reputation, accessibility, and the breadth of their services.

Imen Grief★☆☆☆☆
If I could have given zero stars, I would have. This pharmacy is completely unprofessional! Still in the hospital, I called early Monday afternoon to order a very important medication for my illness, something I clearly explained to the person I spoke to. She told me I needed to go to the pharmacy to give them my prescription so they could order it. Since I was still hospitalized, she said I could email it to her. She also told me I would receive the medication within 48 to 72 hours. So, I called the pharmacy again 48 hours later to check if they had received the medication. They then told me it had never been ordered, that the prescription was supposedly too dark. This is unacceptable! In this situation, knowing the patient's urgent situation, they should have contacted her quickly to tell her the prescription was illegible, and I would have done everything necessary to ensure they could order this essential medication! The pharmacist didn't apologize; she even had the nerve to tell me, "Well, what do you think I can do to you? I'm not going to drive all the way to the center of France to get your medication, am I?" It's disgusting! You are responsible for ordering and providing medication for your patients, especially when they have serious illnesses! I will never set foot in your pharmacy again. The Ateliers pharmacy took over and was able to resolve the situation.

Last night I was helped by a young, dark-haired woman. Despite the late hour, she kindly and professionally took the time to guide me toward the best magnesium option. I wanted to mention that for several decades, the service at this pharmacy, formerly located in the Géant Casino supermarket, has always been the best. The prices are very affordable, and there are daily promotions. Once again, beyond the commercial aspect, the staff's kindness deserves to be highlighted. Thank you.

I've only recently become a customer at this pharmacy; it's true, I came here because I'd heard nothing but good things about it from my own father...
The pharmacists are incredibly kind and professional. I always receive excellent advice on products and medications. These people are all passionate about their work, and it shows at every level because they always have a smile and empathy when serving us. I won't be going to any other pharmacy now... Thank you again for everything!

Honestly, the staff is nice, etc., but this is the second time I've encountered an incompetent person. The first time was for my daughter; the person told me not to refrigerate the vaccine when it was necessary. The second time was for me; a medication was omitted from the prescription, and I can't get my urgent treatment tonight because the on-call pharmacy doesn't have it in stock.

Excellent pharmacy next to the health center. The pharmacists are very kind and offer good advice.

A pharmacy I appreciate; the staff are welcoming and very professional, they answer questions easily, the owners are efficient, and getting vaccinated is a pleasure—they know how to give injections painlessly 🙏

Excellent service. I had left my tablets at home and was in Arles for a short break. The pharmacy sorted everything out with great professionalism, getting in touch with my pharmacy back home to see proof of prescription. They saved my short break otherwise I would have had to go back home to get my tablets. Fantastic help and very friendly. They really went the extra mile. Congratulations.

A huge thank you to Deborah, who spotted a medical error due to an incorrect prescription of a lumbar support belt instead of an abdominal one.

I went to this pharmacy to buy some medication.
The person who served me didn't explain how to use it properly, and when I asked questions, she answered curtly, without really taking the time to explain.
I found that disrespectful.
I don't mean to say that everyone is like that—some people at this pharmacy are very kind and helpful.
But there are still a few sales assistants who aren't friendly, and I think that's a shame.

Incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and friendly staff. We needed herbal remedies for sleep and the pharmacist reviewed all the ingredients for us, as well as what product would work best for our situation. Very clean and well-run shop.

The best pharmacy in town!!! Welcoming staff that can speak English for tourists.
Elizabeth Fernandez★★★★★
The pharmacist here was so kind and so helpful. I came in to the pharmacy after a mosquito attacked me outside. I’m very allergic to them and so I had red swollen welts all over. I used a translator app to explain my situation. She made two different recommendations that helped clear up the reaction. It’s stressful to get sick in a place where you don’t speak the language, and she was very empathetic. I’m so grateful. 🙏
Eléonore Malaurie★★★★★
Excellent pharmacy! The manager is friendly, welcoming, and very competent. I needed help with a bandage on a slightly delicate finger, and she took the time to explain and apply the bandage herself. For any medical advice, I've repeatedly found this pharmacy to be top-notch, and I've noticed that they don't pressure you to spend money; quite the opposite. Thank you!

We went into this pharmacy to purchase more of my favorite sunscreen, and we left with one of our most treasured travel memories. My husband struck up a conversation with the owner, who kindly answered our many questions about pharmacies in France, available medicines, his popular products, and recommendations for the area. He took the time to show us around the space, explaining several product options to us. We left as satisfied customers and then discovered later that he had also generously provided several samples for us to try. Wow! We appreciated the kind, welcoming atmosphere of this pharmacy!
Calum Coupland★★★★★
Excellent service from them.

Avoid at all costs! You sign up as a tester to test products, and they pounce on you, putting you in your place even though you're there to buy. This young woman completely disrespected me, giving me a dirty look as if I were a thief, and offered absolutely no advice. Incompetent, I regret my purchases.
Stephanie Boyer★★★★★
It only has 5 stars when it deserves 10!!! The staff is very professional, responsive, and dedicated.
Thank you for your kindness as well.

I want to give you 100 stars. I tripped and fell, injuring my knee, but the staff member disinfected it and put a bandage on it. Thank you so much for helping me when I got injured far away in a foreign country.

Samuel Charaix★☆☆☆☆
This neighborhood pharmacy shows little consideration. I went in with a prescription refill for a long-term illness (ALD) even though I have a disabled parking permit (PMR), and parked in the blue space opposite the pharmacy, but I left empty-handed. And all this was done loudly and without any respect for confidentiality. It's truly deplorable. You leave with your pain and guilt. I'm not thanking you.
Lea Bobulski★★★★★
I highly recommend them!
A huge thank you to the team on Thursday, August 7th, who advised me and found a solution for my son Noah when I was desperate after a fall.
They kindly found a solution for me.

The best in Arles!
Not like the local drugstores, here you're listened to and in caring hands.
Thank you to the whole team!
dervieux manon★★★★★
I really love this local pharmacy; the whole team is lovely, and they have a lot of homeopathic remedies in stock. And despite previous comments about COVID tests: I've always had mine done there, precisely because they're very careful, and the test is painless! I even had to take my 3-year-old son one day, who didn't even have time to realize what had happened.
If you're hesitating, look no further and go there! 🤗

Marie-Anaïs Ferrandon★★★★★
An excellent pharmacy, both modern and rigorous in its approach. The clear layout and relevant product selection demonstrate a genuine commitment to quality. The pharmacy technician team is particularly distinguished by its dynamism and high level of expertise. I would like to emphasize the quality of their service: attentive listening, personalized advice, and above all, a perfect command of the products and common health issues. Their explanations are always precise, based on solid pharmaceutical knowledge, which inspires real confidence. A pharmacy where you feel well advised and truly cared for.

Hello
I really want to thank the pharmacy manager and an employee (unfortunately, I don't know her name), a very, very kind lady with short, light hair. She is incredibly attentive and, above all, understanding when you suffer from a specific condition (pudendal neuralgia).
I'm leaving this comment because these days it's extremely rare to find such kind, gentle, and caring people. Thank you to this person and to the manager; he was also very understanding and absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much for everything.
Kevin BRI★★★★★
Hello, I wanted to thank the pharmacist who reviewed the antibiotic prescription for my child under two years old and noticed an error in the prescribed dosage. Even though we weren't sure at the time, we called emergency services (15 in France) that evening, and they confirmed that two spoonfuls in the morning and two in the evening was double the recommended dose for such a young child. Without your alert, we wouldn't have noticed the "error" and could have treated our child incorrectly. Thank you.

I would like to share my experience at this pharmacy.
When I went to fill a prescription for three Ventolin inhalers for asthmatic bronchitis, a social security alert appeared due to a previous dispensing (one box) a few days earlier, which I completely understand.
However, the way this was explained to me clearly lacked tact and empathy. I was subjected to inappropriate remarks, even though I was simply following a doctor's prescription.
I also took the time to explain the situation (I'm already undergoing treatment with antibiotics, corticosteroids, nebulizers, and now injections are planned), but the response was inappropriate, with advice to consult a specialist without considering the often very long waiting times.
I understand the need for vigilance, but a little more kindness and professionalism would be appreciated. It would be better to explain things respectfully, or simply refuse to dispense the medication if necessary, but without judgment! The service was disappointing.
Hard Neis★★★★★

Tips for Using Pharmacies in Arles
Navigating the French pharmacy system can be slightly different from other countries, but a little local knowledge goes a long way. Understanding how to find an after-hours pharmacist or how to handle specific medical needs ensures you receive care without unnecessary delays. Here are some practical tips to make your experience as smooth as possible.
Know the "Garde" System: Unlike some countries with 24-hour drugstores, pharmacies in Arles rotate night and Sunday duties. If you need medicine outside standard hours, look for a sign posted on the door of any closed pharmacy. It will list the pharmacie de garde (on-call pharmacy) currently open to handle emergencies.
Carry Your Prescription Details: If you are visiting from abroad, do not rely on memory for your medication names. Bring the original packaging or a detailed letter from your doctor. While French pharmacists are knowledgeable, brand names often differ between countries, and they need to identify the active ingredient (la molécule) to provide a safe equivalent.
Prepare for the "Carte Vitale": If you are a resident, always have your Carte Vitale (French health insurance card) and your mutuelle (supplementary insurance) details ready. This allows for the seamless electronic transmission of your prescription (télétransmission) and ensures you are correctly reimbursed or only pay the remaining balance.
Ask About Generic Medications: French law encourages the use of generic drugs (médicaments génériques). If the pharmacist offers you a generic version of your prescription, it contains the exact same active ingredients but usually costs less. You have the right to refuse, but accepting is generally the most cost-effective choice.
Don’t Hesitate to Ask for Advice: French pharmacists undergo extensive medical training. If you have a minor issue—like a sunburn from the Provençal sun, a mosquito bite, or a mild cold—you can save a trip to the doctor by asking the pharmacist for a recommendation. They are legally permitted to dispense advice and over-the-counter solutions for these common ailments.
Finding a reliable pharmacy is an essential part of feeling settled in a new city or ensuring a stress-free vacation. Whether you are picking up sunscreen before exploring the Arles Amphitheatre or managing a chronic condition, the city’s pharmacists are well-equipped to help you. By choosing one of the options listed above, you are ensuring you receive care from trusted professionals who understand the local community and the needs of its visitors.
