12 Best Parks & Gardens in Menton

Menton’s reputation as the “Pearl of France” is built on more than its pastel-colored old town and sun-drenched Mediterranean coastline. While most visitors come for the beaches and the famous Lemon Festival, the city’s true soul often reveals itself in its meticulously designed green spaces. These parks and gardens offer a tranquil escape from the bustling markets and promenades, providing shade, fragrance, and breathtaking views.

The unique microclimate of Menton allows for a stunning variety of flora that struggles to survive elsewhere in France. Walking through these spaces feels like stepping into a subtropical paradise, where citrus trees heavy with fruit stand alongside exotic palms and lush tropical foliage. It is a botanical crossroads where European elegance meets lush, almost jungle-like vitality.

For travelers looking to balance cultural sightseeing with moments of relaxation, these green spaces are essential stops. They offer a chance to slow down, breathe in the scent of the sea mixed with blooming flowers, and appreciate the art of landscape design. Whether you are a passionate horticulturist or simply seeking a beautiful spot for a picnic, Menton delivers an exceptional variety.

Many of these gardens are not just patches of grass but historic landmarks. They reflect the vision of wealthy aristocrats and botanists who, centuries ago, fell in love with Menton’s climate and decided to cultivate the impossible. Today, they serve as living museums, preserving rare species and offering educational journeys through the world of plants.

Exploring these gardens also provides some of the best vantage points in the city. Perched on hillsides or hugging the coastline, they frame the iconic views of the Bay of Garavan and the Italian Riviera. Bringing a camera is essential, as the interplay of architectural lines, vibrant colors, and the deep blue sea creates postcard-perfect scenes at every turn.

Below, we explore the most remarkable parks and gardens that Menton has to offer. These are spaces where time seems to slow down, inviting you to wander, reflect, and soak in the natural beauty that defines this corner of the Côte d’Azur.

This hidden gem of the city is simply amazing. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the stunning array of plants throughout the garden. It’s beautifully layered, offering shaded spots to relax even on the hottest days. There’s even a refreshing water fountain to fill up your bottles. The prices are incredibly reasonable! We were even more impressed after learning about the garden’s rich history. A bonus is the short walk from the beach. Just be warned, we found it a bit too late! There’s also a free park nearby if you fancy a picnic 🧺 The friendly and English-speaking staff make the experience even better. For those who prefer not to walk, a nearby bus stop is available but you’ll need to check the schedule beforehand. Overall, it’s absolutely worth the visit!

The villa is quite beautiful the gardens especially, the weather wasnt that scorching but its very hot inside the villa and during the walk, the only refreshments we could find were ofcourse overpriced. All in all its a nice experience but wouldn’t have done it if i would go back in time and would rather find something else to do.
Mirjana Apro★★★★★
A very beautiful botanical garden, informally arranged, easy to explore along marked and maintained paths. I love gardens and I saw some new plants, which makes me very happy, so I recommend it to others.
Ricardo van Sandwijk★★★★★
Great botanical garden to visit. We wandered around for a hour or 2. Lots to see and everything is kept nice and clean. Mosquitoes are a thing ( everywhere in this region!! ) but they offer free repellent at the reception.

Visited Jardin Biovès during the Fête du Citron and it was absolutely stunning! The giant sculptures made entirely of lemons and oranges are incredibly detailed and creative. The colors, the citrus scent in the air, and the festive atmosphere make it such a unique experience. Very well organized and perfect for families or couples. If you’re in Menton in February, this is a must see! 🍋✨
David Stanley★★★★★
In 2026 a monumental statue depicting Gaia, the Greek goddess and nurturing mother of Earth, appeared in the annual Lemon Festival (Fête du Citron) in Biovès Gardens at Menton, France. Menton boosts the largest collection of citrus trees in Europe with over 100 varieties. Every year since 1934, a festival has taken place here around Mardi Gras with lemon and orange-studded floats and sculptures. "The Russian Falconer" or "Berkut Hunt" statue in Biovès Gardens was gifted by Tsar Alexander III. This year it rose next to a giraffe sculpture. A gigantic parrot constructed of lemons and oranges also emerged from the gardens.

Jardins Biovès offers a picturesque walkway adorned in delightful Christmas decorations. The serene ambiance invites leisurely strolls, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the festive spirit. The addition of a toy train for children adds an extra touch of enchantment, making it a family-friendly destination. The well-maintained pathways and vibrant decor create a magical atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed outing amidst the holiday cheer. Jardins Biovès proves to be a delightful retreat, blending scenic beauty with festive joy for all ages to enjoy

No idea how it looks like without lemon sculptures but with them it’s great and one can enjoy the installations free of charge. Amazing work of art they are, and different every year 🤩

Olive grove with views of Port Garavan. Quiet, spacious urban oasis.
Mia Olivier★★★★★
I went here on a first date walk. I know it’s a bit dangerous to be alone with a man on a walk when getting to know them, but both the man and this place felt safe. Next time I might opt for more public place though. I’d come back to the beautiful olive grove with friends instead!
ChefLaurent DE★★★★★
Parc Départemental du Pian is a beautiful historic olive grove located in Menton, France, and has been classified as a Monument Historique since 1955. This picturesque park spans 3 hectares and is home to around 540 olive trees, some of which are several centuries old. The trees are arranged in terraced formations that face the sea, creating a stunning landscape. The park is accessible year-round and serves as an ideal spot for picnics, children's games, and leisurely strolls, offering a peaceful environment for contemplation. The city of Menton practices eco-grazing in the park, allowing sheep to graze during the spring to help maintain the area ecologically. Additionally, the park hosts various events throughout the year, contributing to the local community's vibrancy. You can access the park via 11 Avenue Blasco Ibanez or Boulevard du Garavan in Menton.

Beautiful garden with a lot to look at. For us, even with the great variety of trees and plants, the most fascinating aspects were not necessarily the botanical side of it as much as the architecture and how the trees etc are integrated into it. We loved to take a paus under the shade in the beautiful belvedere, which offers a lovely view over the villa (which was not open during our visit) and it's surroundings. Even though the garden is divided in different areas it has a lovely wild charm to it, everything flows into everything else. We also loved looking at (and listen to) the frogs in the numerous ponds 🙂 There's a small reception with some drinks and gift shop options. The receptionist gave us great info and a free map of the area. Note: You will do a lot of walking up and down pretty steep steps, which could be good to keep in mind.
Beauregard Cronin★★★★★
Lovely garden with an interesting history. In early spring, the garden is uncrowded and you can experience it as the original owner did, enjoying the views and relaxing on one of the moss-covered benches. Be aware that the property is located on a slope and there are many flights of stone steps throughout the garden. The bus stop is directly at the garden entrance, but the bus schedule is not great, so coming by car makes for easier access.
Juno★★★★★
Truly hidden gem! Beautiful garden with lots of rare plants and unique landscapes. I didn't expect to see the garden designed by Lawrence Jhonston in South France! If you have an interest in garden history this is the place for you.
Helen Bradley★★★★★
Yes, it’s a bit wild but the design is good and the plant collection is interesting and beautiful even in winter. We had a lovely time wandering the many paths. There is a small car park - on a Saturday in early February there were empty spaces - but it’s walkable from the town centre. There’s a short stretch just before the garden entrance with no footpath, the rest is footpath all the way.

A wonderful experience! Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and funny. We learned so many fascinating things, and the tour was both informative and enjoyable. The garden is absolutely beautiful, especially in the evening when the light becomes soft and the atmosphere feels truly magical. I highly recommend visiting—it was one of the highlights of our trip.

On Saturday September 13 we toured Jardin Maria Serena with a most excellent guide. I apologize for forgetting his name. He was very informative, funny and engaging. You could tell he was a true plant lover. We enjoyed the stories he told about the plants, their origins, uses, and insect interactions. The gardens and views of Menton were terrific. We wish all guided tours were this good. Thank you!

I had a wonderful tour of the garden led by Christophe, who can guide you in both French and English! The visit was a special late evening session. I’m truly fascinated by his passion and the interesting stories he brought about this garden: from Menton history, to its patrons and the garden biodiversity that is being kept here through the years. You’ll learn a lot about plants from all around the world! We were lucky to be the first group to visit the place this summer. I hope it will be better known. The villa cannot be visited from the inside, but you can walk on its corridor and balcony that made its feature in Agatha Christie’s Poirot series, as “Villa Marguerite” of the episode The Mystery of the Blue train. I can’t wait to attend this tour again for a morning session. Thank you Christophe!

Very interesting guided visit ! However , it is rather difficult to know which garden is opened and when in Menton !
Helen Bradley★☆☆☆☆
The gardens are sadly not well maintained - lots of weeds, too few plants and several looking near death. The garden structures are in poor condition - tiles falling off, plaster falling off revealing the concrete beneath, wooden props holding some up. People using parts of the garden to park their cars! Such a shame Menton hasn’t sorted out complete ownership and found funding or sponsorship to properly restore the garden.

Practical Tips for Visiting Menton’s Gardens

To make the most of your horticultural tour, a little planning goes a long way. While the gardens are accessible year-round thanks to the mild climate, certain seasons offer dramatically different experiences. Understanding the terrain, the best times to visit, and the amenities available will ensure your exploration is as comfortable as it is beautiful.

  1. Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes: Many of Menton’s most famous gardens are built on steep hillsides. Pathways can be uneven, gravel-covered, or slick after morning dew or rain, so sturdy footwear is essential for safety and comfort.
  2. Visit early in the morning: The light is best for photography in the early hours, and the temperatures are cooler. Arriving when gates open also allows you to enjoy the tranquility of the spaces before the midday crowds and tour groups arrive.
  3. Check for "Riviera Gardens" passes: If you plan to visit multiple ticketed gardens, inquire at the tourist office about combined tickets or special passes. These can offer significant savings compared to purchasing individual entry at each location.
  4. Pack water and sun protection: While many gardens offer shade, the Mediterranean sun is intense, especially between noon and 4 PM. A refillable water bottle, a hat, and sunscreen are non-negotiables for a pleasant visit.
  5. Verify accessibility before you go: Due to the historic nature and steep topography of Menton, not all gardens are wheelchair or stroller friendly. If you have mobility concerns, call ahead or check official websites to see which paths are paved and accessible.

The gardens of Menton are more than just a backdrop; they are an integral part of the city’s identity. They tell stories of explorers, botanists, and dreamers who shaped the landscape into a living work of art. Taking the time to visit even just a few of these green sanctuaries will add a layer of depth and serenity to your French Riviera experience.

As you leave the shaded paths and return to the vibrant streets of the old town, you will carry with you the scents of citrus and exotic flowers. It is this unique blend of urban charm and lush nature that makes Menton a destination unlike any other on the Mediterranean coast.
