Spain’s Roman aqueducts are not just ancient engineering marvels; they are the beating hearts of the cities they tower over. While the Aqueduct of Segovia is the undisputed icon, other remarkable examples in cities like Tarragona, Mérida, and Almuñécar offer equally captivating backdrops for your stay. Choosing the right hotel nearby transforms a simple sightseeing trip into an immersive historical experience.
Location is everything when you are planning a trip centered around these monumental structures. Staying within walking distance means you can witness the aqueduct at dawn when the stones glow gold, or at midnight when floodlights cast dramatic shadows. It also saves you valuable vacation time that would otherwise be spent navigating public transport or searching for parking.
However, not all “nearby” hotels are created equal. Some offer direct views of the arches from private balconies, while others are tucked away on quiet side streets just a stone’s throw from the tourist bustle. The best options balance proximity with comfort, offering a peaceful retreat after a long day of walking on cobblestones.
This guide focuses primarily on the area surrounding the world-famous Aqueduct of Segovia, as it boasts the highest concentration of quality accommodations. We have analyzed guest reviews, geographic data, and amenity lists to curate options that cater to various budgets and travel styles. Whether you are a solo backpacker, a couple on a romantic getaway, or a family on a cultural adventure, there is a perfect base for you.
We understand that modern travelers need more than just a bed; they need reliable Wi-Fi, climate control for the hot Spanish summers, and authentic local character. Every property mentioned here has been selected for its ability to enhance your visit, providing that seamless blend of ancient history and modern hospitality.
Read on to discover the finest places to stay where the view from your window might just be a 2,000-year-old Roman masterpiece. You will find detailed insights into what makes each hotel unique, from gourmet dining to rooftop terraces, ensuring your choice is informed and exciting.

We had a good stay at Hotel Puerta de Bilbao. The family room was spacious, but the sofa bed for our children, aged 10 and 12, was hardly big enough.
The breakfast was okay, and the hotel is nice overall.
One thing that could be improved is the pool area. Some of the sun loungers were already reserved with towels before 10 a.m., making them unavailable for other guests. A clearer policy on reserving pool chairs would make the experience fairer for everyone. Dinner at the restaurant is good and enjoyable!
The bathroom layout could be improved. The toilet and bidet are placed very close together, with little space next to the washbasin. The toilet paper dispenser is also not very practical to use.
Overall, it’s a nice hotel, and we enjoyed our stay.

Hotel Puerta de Bilbao is a large hotel that works well if you're visiting the exhibition hall. It's a fair walk from the metro station, but I didn't mind. The staff are exceptionally friendly, especially at the bar & restaurant where I enjoyed reading and relaxing in the spacious setting. The restaurant is really good and you can observe them while they cook. Rooms are generously sized with a desk and sofa, though they're a bit dated. The bathroom had some issues, water leaked from my shower and I had to cover the floor in advance with towels. However, the excellent service and truly outstanding breakfast more than make up for it. The scale and access are impressive. The pool was closed during my visit (end of May), but it opens in June and is quite small anyway. Worth considering if you prioritize space, service, and a great breakfast over the newest furnishings. Recommended!

As long-time Marriott Ambassadors, we rarely step outside our usual circle of hotels—but this stay at Puerto de Bilbao Hotel proved well worth it. We chose the property for its easy access to the ferry port and the security of its underground parking, and it delivered exactly what we needed.
Our suite was warm, comfortable, and well equipped for an overnight stop. Simple, but spot on.
We also tried the tasting menu in the restaurant, and at €42—including wine, water, and coffee—it was outstanding value. Breakfast the following morning was just as impressive.
And a special thank-you to Alfonso, who went out of his way to secure the very last table for lunch. That kind of service makes a difference.
A great choice for anyone passing through Bilbao.

The room very good, a quiet place but the room was hot and the air condition don't work good. The breakfast very good, a clean place, the attention of the staff great.

Nice rooms, friendly staff but I found my bed very uncomfortable and was disappointed at all the water I wasted waiting for hot water in the shower. At least five minutes worth. Very good storage area for bikes. Excellent 7.50 breakfast buffet in the neighbouring sister hotel. Overall, I think it's a bit overpriced for the quality of bed I was given.

The hotel looks like it is closed. The room was ok, but the bed was very small. We looked out over what looked like a prison courtyard. The breakfast in the other hotel was good.

We had a one night stay at Marbella Club this past Sunday and it was absolutely flawless, from the arrival to the departure, everyone and everything was perfect! Our room 304 on the edge of the pool and beach, with seaviews, felt so private and exclusive, super well maintained and in great condition. We were spoiled with welcome notes and amenities which made us feel special and the best of all, is every interaction we had was brilliant. Some names to highlight are the reception team with Javier, Pierre our buggy driver, Valeria in sales, our server in the Patio was brilliant and smiley, from Ghana, sorry did not remember his name, but he had the warmest smile ever! The food we had both times in El Patio was delicious, the lunch at MC Club on the beach was memorable and overall the insider tour we got from Valeria of the Finca Ana Maria was the biggest surprise which truly completes the experience at Marbella Club. We love the small casitas and the luxurious villas too of course. Thank you to all the team from Julian Cabanillas to the doormen.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at MCH and cannot rate it highly enough.
It is a five star hotel in every aspect, from the attentive service, luxurious decor, delicious food, lush green gardens and the best pools in Marbella.
It exceeded my expectations and lives up to the hype.
I look forward to my return.
For anyone considering a visit, go ahead and make a reservation, do it and thank me later.

It was a wonderful stay at the Marbella club hotel. The service was exceptionally welcoming, and we loved the beautiful interior design and atmosphere. We especially appreciated the large number of swimming pools, with separate areas for both adults and children. Every guest can find something comfortable and enjoyable here.
The restaurants on the property were excellent, both for lunch and dinner, and the breakfasts were outstanding. We will definitely return to this hotel on our next visit.

I’ve been coming to Marbella Club for years, and I’ve always loved the unique atmosphere that made it feel like a true home away from home. Unfortunately, during this stay, that feeling was missing.
While the hotel remains beautiful, I found the staff to be overly intrusive. We were repeatedly interrupted for minor issues and unnecessary check-ins, which made it difficult to relax and enjoy our privacy. Instead of feeling looked after, we felt constantly disturbed.
What made Marbella Club so special in the past was its effortless, discreet service—you felt genuinely at home. Sadly, that magic seems to have faded. It’s still a wonderful property, but it no longer feels like the Marbella Club I remember.
I sincerely hope the management brings back the understated hospitality and sense of comfort that made this hotel truly exceptional.

This is by no means a 5 star hotel to stay in, the prices are not reflective of the quality of stay.
Poor bedding, pillows are of some whimsical size. We were asked to fill a pillow menu but not given our choice. Even when asking twice we were given the same hard lumpy pillows.
Bed was more 3 star , noisy hard and lumpy.
Interrupted by service staff at odd times despite giving them a time.
Room interiors poor
Pools look like they are from the 1990’s.
The F&B is incredible, they will cater to allergies to the T. Will only come back for that. Do not come here for luxury

Nice hotel and very big. Inside is nice but the rooms are definitely older and dated, see photos. But it’s a good price for the rooms being older. Right beside the golf course and about a 10 min drive to Salamanca center. The pool is nice and the spa you need to go with a shower cap but the towels to rent are 3 euro each, and 25 if you don’t return them so bring your own towel or towel from the room. Overall good experience. Front desk staff is friendly and helpful. Air con in the rooms in summer is great very cold
Sintje Mortier★★★☆☆
for a 4 star hotel I thought it was quiet disappointing that you have to pay for your spa entrance, when renting a room there. They can definitely improve a bit the coziness and ambient in the gym and spa. The installations are quiet old. There isn't a coffee or tea possibility in the room or hot water cooker. The rooms are roomy but the doors not very well isolated regarding the noises of the hallway. Our airco system from the room didn't work properly and was noisy as well, it was extremely hot in the room and that for the month of April. They don't have a nice outdoor green garden to sit or dine and that for an "out of the city hotel" is a missed opportunity in my point of view. You just can sit in front of the hotel watching the parking lot.

I visited this hotel a few years ago now, and forgot to review however I vividly remember this place for not a good reason. The bar was never open when we were there, and the staff were nothing special. The beds were that rock solid/hard i developed sciatica after 1 night here. If you like sleeping on a bed which isn’t like a slab of concrete then book elsewhere. I drove a group of English tourists to this hotel.

One of our favorite hotel here in Salamanca. It's peaceful, big room, has a Spa, indoor and outdoor swimming pool.

The only thing we don't like is no Kettle, no free tea or coffee in the room.

We came here with a group of 30 school kids from the UK. While the hotel was pleasent and rooms modern and well looked after, the service wasn't always great and the food was a struggle. The swimming pool was clean but small. The breakfast option was limited, the packed lunches were the same each day. Dinners weren't great. However, the waitress who served our food was very kind and helpful.

The room I stayed in had 4 beds, the bunk beds had no railing and if you fell it was on to a hard floor. My bed had yellow stains on the sheets. The door fell off of the wardrobe and the room smelt strange as we were next to the laundry room, the smell was horrible.

This was our first time staying at Hotel El Fuerte, a sister hotel to the Amàre, just a short walk away. We chose to change location to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and we truly believe we made the perfect decision. We stayed for five nights with breakfast included and the experience exceeded our expectations in every way. Breakfast was outstanding the quality, variety and presentation of the food easily deserve a 10 out of 10. The indoor and outdoor seating areas are beautiful, relaxed and immaculately maintained, making each morning a pleasure.
What truly sets Hotel El Fuerte apart is the staff. From morning through to night, the personal attention we received was professional, genuine and incredibly warm. Every interaction felt sincere and welcoming and it made a real difference to our stay.
The hotel grounds offer plenty of choice for relaxation, whether you prefer sun or shade, by the pool or near the beach. The atmosphere throughout is calm, elegant and thoughtfully designed. We also appreciated the personal touches in the evening, such as chocolates or sweets left in the room, small details that made the experience feel extra special. We would like to sincerely thank all of the staff for helping to make our 25th wedding anniversary such a memorable and meaningful holiday. We will most certainly return in the future and would consider the half‑board option next time.

I’ve been fortunate to travel extensively and stay in many beautiful hotels, and I can confidently say this is one of the best I’ve ever experienced.
From the moment you arrive, the service is exceptional. The team is genuinely warm, attentive, and welcoming, which sets the tone for the entire stay. The location is unbeatable, with everything conveniently within walking distance.
The pool and beach areas are stunning and incredibly relaxing, especially the sunbeds by the water. It’s the perfect place to unwind and switch off. Breakfast is excellent, with a wide variety of options and beautiful views, and the decor throughout the hotel is elegant and thoughtfully designed. Lounge access was a great addition, and having snacks and drinks available during the day made the experience even more enjoyable.
The room was quiet, comfortable, and well designed, with a beautiful bathroom. One of the highlights was falling asleep to the sound of the waves. At one point, one of us even chose to sleep on the balcony just to fully enjoy it.
This is a place where you can truly disconnect and relax. I’m already looking forward to coming back.
Thank you for such an incredible stay.
Highly recommended. Don’t hesitate to book.

We had a wonderful time at El Fuerte. It was our first holiday in a while and I even used the occasion to propose! The hotel was situated at an ideal location - easy to access, well maintained and plenty of amenities nearby. We were in Marbella for a long weekend and had a jam-packed agenda, but enjoyed our time at the hotel and had some particular highlights / call-outs:
1. Andrea from Guest Services + the entire staff team - Andrea in particular was FANTASTIC - no question was too much and she always had a wonderful smile each day. She even very kindly had a bottle of cava sent to our room to celebrate our proposal. Which we enjoyed on the balcony overlooking the sea!
Rosa + Valentina - kitchen superstars - were full of joy each morning + kept us topped up with champagne! They also very kindly had a DELICIOUS chocolate mousse brought to us to celebrate our engagement. We were so grateful for their kindness and wonderful hospitality.
Thank you, El Fuerte, for a memorable trip and a wonderful experience. We will come back again!

Absolutely wonderful property.
We enjoyed a relaxing week in a seafront room. The “selected” option worked very well for us and offers a quiet area for breakfast with excellent service. Other perks with this option include a lounge (little sandwiches and desserts, snacks, and even drinks and fresh juices), and entry to the very relaxing therapy pool with jets and cascading spouts.
Our room had a unique design, with a shower and toilet cubicle to one side of the entry, and double sinks and a soaking tub on the other side. Beyond was a small bedroom and beautiful balcony. There are many room categories available, including suites with lounge areas, or those with a jetted tub on the balcony.
Keep in mind the resort has a rather small footprint, and is family friendly, so there could be some noise from the pool below in seafront room category. The tradeoff is delightful views.
We loved the location of the hotel, with direct access to a promenade lined with restaurants. It’s also a few minutes walk to the charming old town.
We would not hesitate to recommend this world class hotel. Heartfelt thanks to the outstanding staff, particularly our breakfast hosts and servers. We hope to see your smiling faces again!

The good: hotel had a fairly inexpensive price in the middle of summer. My room was large and it was pretty pretty clean. The less good: the room is excessively hot with no air-conditioning or even a fan. Quite impossible to sleep in the summer night. It’s also on the landing and takeoff path of the airport nearby so every five minutes from a certain time you can hear them coming and going and it’s extremely loud. The decor is old of course, but as I’ve mentioned pretty clean.

A wonderful luxury hotel. Made to feel special by all the staff from start to finish, shout out to the lady at front of house with the crystal blue eyes and all the waiting staff in El Jardin for making our stay so memorable. I hadn't told anyone there about my wife's birthday but they obviously picked it up from her passport at check in. Golf was great, there had been loads of rain through off season but it was still very playable in mid March - club down on the 11th tee!

Really great location at the end of El Sardinero beach. Easy access to the promenade and beach. Customer service was excellent. I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Chiqui in Santander, and what truly made the experience exceptional was the outstanding service at the front desk.
Héctor and Christina went above and beyond to make me feel welcome from the very first moment. They were not only professional and efficient, but also genuinely warm and attentive. Whether it was offering local recommendations, helping with arrangements, or simply greeting guests with a smile, they made a lasting impression.
Their attention to detail and willingness to help with anything—big or small—really elevated the entire stay. It’s rare to come across such dedicated hospitality, and they are a true credit to the hotel.
Thanks to them, my visit to Santander was even more enjoyable. I would absolutely return and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable stay with exceptional service.

Beautiful location on beach in Santander. We were fortunate to have a room with terrace overlooking the Infiniti pool and beaches. So. Worth. It. Clean rooms, reliable wifi, nice breakfast with option to eat outside. Must ask for gluten free at breakfast if needed. Helpful front desk at check in and when taxi needed. Ismael was very helpful at check it and made us feel at home. Note parking is in short supply - reserve ahead of you can, only 20 spaces. Share all other parking spots with other hotel guests, beach goers, and fisherman. Again, worth it!

This is an absolute gem of a hotel, the building itself is incredibly well maintained and the room we had in the "dungeon" was very cozy and comfortable. We slept so well.
We ate in the restaurant for dinner and the menu was varied, with options for half racions, so you can try more things. The food was delicious, and the care that was taken in preparing it, as well as the quality of the ingredients, really shone through. I wish I had space to try more dishes.
The final flourish was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had anywhere in Spain, from the different bread options, to freshly baked pastries, different meats and cheeses, fresh fruits and yogurt, as well as hot dishes, jams and honey...I could go on and on. It was amazing.
The staff are helpful and welcoming, the setting has a surreal aspect that is wonderful. It was a privilege to stay there and we hope to return.

Edited: Thanks to the incredibly kind and understanding reply from the hotel, I have changed my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. I hope they will truly make the changes so that pet owners can also enjoy the standards other guests do!
Original review: Definitely NOT 4 star hotel standard!
It has taken me a while to post this review because I really wanted to include everything in it. We stayed at the Buen Amor for one night and honestly, if we hadn’t arrived later than expected due to illness, we would have left as soon as we arrived, to search for somewhere acceptable. The one only redeeming feature was the dinner, which was excellent and the breakfast had good variety too, although a lot of items were covered in flies. Here is the list of issues we faced as soon as we arrived:
- Room damp/mould smell.
- Black mould and infiltration obviously visible in many places.
- Dust/pollen mountains in entrance of the room.
- Every single towel humid/damp to touch.
- Shower full of hair from previous guest.
- Barely any plugs other than for the lights already plugged in.
- Every footstep above the room can be heard like the ceiling is made out of plaster - unexpected when the walls seem so thick.
- When we asked if we could change rooms due to the unbearable smell, we were told we would be charged if we move to a “suite” which smelled and looked exactly the same. Saw three other dungeon rooms - all with the same issue.
- These rooms are a health hazard and should not be used, at least not in their current state!
- Not truly dog friendly. Dogs not allowed in restaurant, only the “cafe” but the cafe is outside, so that’s misleading. It’s ok for some but not for others who become mosquito feasts eating outside in the evening.
- Only these “dungeon” rooms are “dog friendly”, or, apparently two rooms on the ground floor, which the employee claimed were booked. I’m not sure which rooms those are, as we were told when booking, that dogs are only allowed in these dungeon rooms.
- Dog bed and items “provided” were old, knackered and looked dirty. I would never let my dog sleep on it or touch any of it. Having a dog does not equal having no cleanliness standard, in fact we are pretty OCD with cleanliness.
- White long dog hairs from previous guests all over the floor - ours is black with short fur, so it was obvious they did not come from our dog.
- I had to ask for someone to help with our bags (I saw a trolley outside so thought it was something they offered). The woman at reception looked at me with big eyes and said with the least enthusiasm “if you need help, well I can help you”. Then the lovely British girl who was helping out for the summer, immediately and assertively said she will help. Had a great chat with her too! I would like to thank her for showing such kindness.
- Constant low humming noise all night, very irritating in the silence. Stays on for 10mins or so, then goes off again and then back on. Not sure if it’s some sort of heat pump or smth located near the room, but it’s not pleasant at all.
- Although aircon helped with the smell, we couldn’t keep it on at night because it was so loud due to being extremely old. I do not want to know when it was last checked or cleaned!
- The restaurant was good, although service not the friendliest or warmest with us. Different entirely towards the Spanish speakers dining there that evening.
- There’s a road next to the window of the room where a truck passes at 7am??! Noisy when you have your window open to get some form of fresh air.
- Your reply to other reviewers stating there’s mould in the rooms, is to “assure them there isn’t any”. Well I have photographed it all. This is mould - as someone with asthmatic family members, I know what mould looks and smells like. The rooms are a health hazard and should be closed down.

We stayed in the Castillo and we totally loved the experience. The Castillo is stunning and well maintenance. All the areas and rooms are very impressive, with art, and historic things to enjoy. The outside gardens and landscape are beautiful. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well decorated. We had dinner and breakfast, the food was amazing. The staff was very friendly and they looked after all the details. They gave as a little tour around the castle. The hotel is also very child friendly. My son had also a welcome present that he enjoyed very much!. We will definitely come back

A stunning castle that beautifully blends historic charm with a surprising number of modern in-room amenities. The restaurant is excellent and well worth dining at. The only drawback is that the property is not handicap accessible. The property is about twenty minutes outside of Salamanca.

Just stopped for coffee as on the final leg to the ferry port, coffee was hot and strong, just what we needed. Food is available if you want in a restaurant, toilets had seen better days and were very graffitied.

Very cozy little hotel with a rustic style. Comfortable rooms, good rates, and friendly staff. Not a chain hotel that looks like everything else. I really like the atmosphere. Just 30 minutes or so to Madrid by car. I really like it.

Practical Tips for Booking a Hotel Near the Aqueduct
Selecting the right hotel requires more than just looking at a map and checking the price. To ensure your stay is as seamless and memorable as the architecture itself, you need to consider the specific logistical quirks of these historic city centers. The following advice will help you avoid common pitfalls and secure a room that meets your expectations for comfort and convenience.
1. Prioritize Soundproofing and Interior-Facing Rooms
The plazas surrounding major aqueducts are vibrant hubs of activity, often filled with street performers and late-night diners. If you are a light sleeper, request a room that does not face the main square. Hotels in these areas often have interior courtyard rooms that offer complete silence without sacrificing location.
2. Verify Parking Logistics Before You Arrive
Most hotels located directly at the foot of the aqueduct sit within restricted traffic zones (Zona de Baja Emisiones) or pedestrian-only streets. If you are driving, contact the hotel beforehand to ask about discounted access to nearby public parking garages. Driving into the historic center without prior authorization can result in hefty fines.
3. Book a Room with a View, Even if it Costs More
The difference between a standard room and a "superior" room is often just the view of the arches. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many travelers. Waking up to the sight of the granite blocks is worth the premium, as it allows you to enjoy the monument even during downtime in your room.
4. Consider the Walkability of the Surrounding Streets
While a hotel might be geographically "near" the aqueduct, the terrain in cities like Segovia is hilly and paved with smooth, sometimes slippery, cobblestones. If you have mobility issues or heavy luggage, confirm that the hotel has elevator access and is located on a relatively flat route from the taxi drop-off point.
5. Look for Seasonal Climate Control
Spanish summers are intense, and ancient buildings retain heat. While many historic hotels have been renovated, not all have powerful air conditioning. Conversely, winters can be bitingly cold. Check recent guest reviews specifically for mentions of the HVAC system to ensure your room will be a comfortable sanctuary regardless of the season.
Choosing to stay near a Roman aqueduct allows you to connect with Spanish history on a deeply personal level. It offers the rare opportunity to enjoy a glass of local wine while gazing upon a structure that has stood resilient for two millennia. By selecting the right accommodation, you turn a simple hotel stay into an integral part of your travel narrative, ensuring that the magic of the ancient world lingers long after you check out.
