Finding the perfect place to stay can transform a simple city break into an unforgettable cultural immersion. When visiting a historic gem like Murcia, the location of your accommodation dictates the rhythm of your trip. Being close to the city’s beating heart allows you to experience its charm long after the day-trippers have gone home.
Murcia Cathedral, with its stunning Baroque facade and towering bell tower, is the undisputed centerpiece of the city. The surrounding labyrinth of narrow streets is filled with tapas bars, museums, and plazas that buzz with local life. Staying within walking distance means you can easily slip back to your room for a siesta or to drop off shopping bags.
However, the area surrounding a major tourist attraction can be noisy or crowded. Therefore, choosing a hotel here requires a careful balance between proximity and tranquility. You want to be close enough to walk to the Plaza Cardenal Belluga but nestled in a spot that guarantees a restful night’s sleep.
From boutique hideaways in converted historic buildings to modern hotels with rooftop pools, the area offers a diverse range of lodging. Whether you are traveling for business, a romantic getaway, or a family vacation, there is a perfect base for your needs. The key is knowing which streets offer the best atmosphere and value.
This guide focuses on quality, comfort, and accessibility. We have analyzed the local hospitality scene to bring you the top options located just steps from the sacred walls of the Cathedral. Each selection has been evaluated for its unique character, service standards, and guest satisfaction.
Prepare to discover accommodations that offer more than just a bed for the night. These hotels provide a gateway to the authentic Murcian lifestyle, where the scent of orange blossom and the sound of church bells define your mornings.
Without further ado, here are the best places to stay in the historic center, curated to enhance your visit to the capital of the Segura.

Just had an amazing stay at Hotel Cetina in Murcia! 🌟 The check-in process was super smooth, and the welcome was warm and friendly. Despite our party’s limited Spanish the staff were very patient with us and made great effort to ensure they understood our questions and offered help when needed. The room was equipped with everything we needed and was spotlessly clean. 🛏️ special mention to the absolutely massive and comfortable bed, which blew me away. The overall service exceeded my expectations. The hotel is extremely well located within the city, being placed within just a few minutes of several key attractions and locations such as the beautiful Casino and the cathedral. Definitely a place I’d highly recommend.

Just had an amazing stay at Hotel Cetina in Murcia! 🌟 From the moment I arrived, the welcome was warm and inviting. The check-in process was super smooth, and my room was absolutely perfect—spotless and well-equipped. The cleanliness throughout the hotel is commendable, and I felt right at home. Overall, the service was top-notch and exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend! 😄

My recent experience at Hotel Cetina in Murcia was exceptional. The welcome upon arrival was warm and efficient, making the check-in process seamless. The deluxe room was well-equipped and thoughtfully designed, ensuring a comfortable stay. The incredible large bed was awesome. Additionally, both my room and the communal areas were impeccably clean, reflecting a high standard throughout. Breakfast was very tasty with various options. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area as very central.

Brilliant location, close to everything. Check in was really smooth and we got a free welcome drink from the bar which was a nice touch. And some desserts! Room and bed were small but clean, but that’s fine as we didn’t come on holiday to stay in the room all day. The balcony was huge though! Lovely spacious bathroom as well with a nice shower, hairdryer and hair straighteners. Staff were super friendly. Overall, a fantastic stay!
Linda Hagen★★★★☆
Lovely staff and the location is superb for exploring the city by foot. Everything right outside your door. The hotel was quiet at night, which is extra appreciated when so central.
The beds were a little hard, could've used a softer top mattress. The bathroom was a bit worn, but clean enough. A closet, desk & chair, small fridge, coffee and tea. The tv turned on every time the key card was inserted for power, which was a bit annoying, but not a big deal for our short stay.

The staff I interacted with were friendly and polite, and the hotel has a central location. Those are the main positives.
However, the overall experience was disappointing and, in my view, not good value for money at around €120 per night.
The main issue is that the hotel appears to have a clear gap between renovated and older, unrenovated rooms. I was placed in an old room on the fifth floor that felt dated, industrial, cramped, and poorly maintained. This was not made clear enough during booking, and it was not explained at check-in either. A more transparent process would be to inform guests clearly that they have booked an older room and offer the option to upgrade to a renovated one. That did not happen.
There were also several infrastructure problems. One elevator was out of service, and the remaining elevator was very small, slow, and stopped frequently. This became a real issue when my old-style key card stopped working and I had to go back down to reception. I ended up waiting around 10 minutes just for the elevator.
The Wi-Fi was also poor. In my room on the fifth floor, I could not even find a usable network, which is unacceptable for a hotel in this price range.
The bathroom and room layout were uncomfortable, with very limited space to move, especially in the bathroom. The room also lacked basic modern conveniences, such as easily accessible modern charging options.
No compensation or meaningful flexibility was offered for the issues encountered.
Overall, the hotel staff were friendly, but the property itself feels run-down and the booking/check-in process lacks transparency. Guests should be clearly warned that they may receive an older, unrenovated room with infrastructure limitations. For this price, I would recommend looking at other options in Murcia.

Exceptional location right in the heart of the city. Very amenable staff and a lovely restaurant and bar linked to the hotel.
Only comment would be lack of a full length mirror in the bedroom.

First of all very good breakfast. Also location great. But not a good room. Bed too hard as well as the concrete pillows. Bed on wheels so moves from the wall. Rain shower head broken so only hand shower available. A/C first impossible to turn on an now impossible to turn of. When having a open window street noise is very loud till 3 am Disappointed

We were disappointed with our experience. We checked into our room around 5:30pm and clearly someone had shaved in the bathroom sink and it was not properly cleaned. We let the front desk staff know and they apologized, we assumed they would be sending someone up to clean the bathroom properly. At 7pm I called down and they informed us their cleaning staff had left for the day. This is during their off season and the hotel wasn't busy at all, we were surprised that the wouldn't just offer us another room since this one was not cleaned properly, it was very obvious there were many rooms available. The following day the customer service manager reached out in the morning to see if we wanted the room cleaned but we were only there for one night and checking out within 2 hours of his call. We spent over $300 Canadian dollars for the room as we got a suite and it was disappointing to come into a dirty bathroom. The customer service rep was very apologetic he offered to comp our parking but when we checked in and asked about parking the front desk staff said there wasn't any so we ended up parking pretty far away, google maps had show that there were driving restrictions in the main town. He also offered to get us a coffee but we had paid for breakfast at the hotel and already had some. So basically nothing was done for us and we had to stay in a dirty room for the night.

Stayed at Hesperia Murcia Centro and had a really great experience overall.
The hotel is modern, clean, and very conveniently located right in the city center. One of the best parts is how close it is to so many restaurants and shops — perfect for those nights when you’re tired from exploring and don’t want to go far to find dinner.
The staff truly made the stay even better. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help, which made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived.
Overall, a smooth and enjoyable stay. If you’re visiting Murcia and want something central, convenient, and reliable — this is definitely a solid choice.

I absolutely loved this hotel in Murcia. Best hotel. So clean. Staff so so so lovely. Bryan at night check in is so wonderful. The housekeeping is so kind and the day time reception staff are so kind also. They made us feel so welcome and they were helpful with absolutely everything. What a wonderful place to stay. The staff made everything better.
The room aswell so clean and had everything we needed. Would have been good to have an iron in every room but I understand this is not always possible. Everything was so clean and tidy and the facilities are great. Would also be nice to have a kettle in the bedroom as we did not have one.
The maintenance staff fixed our fridge because it was not working. They were so prompt with it and I am so happy with the lovely stay we had here. Thank you so much.

The hotel has been really well refurbished and the location is absolutely perfect. The price was second-to-none through Jet2- and the room was incredibly tidy, modern and well-furnished. A full dedicated AC unit was in my single room, which worked perfectly.
Literally a 1-minute walk from La Catedral de Murcia, as well as being in the centre of incredibly beautiful streets of shops, bars and restaurants. As well as a large Mercadona 2-minute walk away, where you can get most things for a great low price. Carrefour Express is only a bit further.
No pool, but Piscina Municipal is nearby with a huge outdoor pool for only €4 entry- make sure you take your passport.
I booked 3-nights, and really regret not booking 4! I’m back home as of this afternoon and already really miss Murcia!
Thank you for making my first solo travel trip abroad so amazing!!

4 night stay. Excellent location for the cathedral.
Hampered though by over an hour to check in and some of our party had issues with noise from other guests overnight.
Rooms were well presented, clean and spacious.
Facilities in keeping with the value price you pay. Gym was an unexpected bonus at the price point.
Abertawe Dave★★★☆☆
Location is amazing, right in the middle of the city, very close to the cathedral, close to shopping and eating, 15 mins from the bus station.
Hotel itself is very clean, staff are fantastic.
It is a fairly basic Hotel, it is a good night sleep, rooms are basic, small, and generally clean, bedding clean, shower clean (although the floor feels dirty).
We paid extra for city views DO NOT PAY THIS - as other reviewers have said, the so called city view is literally the street outside and people's flats opposite (hotel is already in the city, this isnt a perk) and if you dare risk your life, you can see the cathedral if you hang yourself out of the window - but I'm not spider man, and I'm gutted they also caught me on this.
They give you complimentary bottles of water only on your first day - considering its Spain, they don't give kettles, tea or coffee, that's just poor service, considering you are staying multiple nights.
We didn't try breakfast as there is so much choice nearby and its very expensive anyway- try santa Gloria nearby.
There is a gym by the breakfast hall.
Overall, its a clean, decent hotel in a great location. Don't get caught on the city view and don't expect anything particularly extra special- no complimentary water and you even have to pay for a small instant coffee from the machine in reception.

Enhorabuena a Barceló. Estamos deseando volver, sobre todo a su restaurante que (guardad este comentario) si no busca la estrella Michelín, poco le faltará. De verdad, INCREIBLE!

I came back here after having a not-so-pleasant experience at another hotel, and what a difference!
The staff are incredibly friendly. It was still quite busy at reception in the evening and there was only one person working, but this didn’t bother me at all. In fact, I would like to compliment the lady at reception: despite how busy it was, she still took the time to help you and remained incredibly cheerful and helpful.
There was a small stain on the bed in my room. I was immediately offered a new room, which was checked first before I moved in. In the end, I even received a larger room than the one I had booked. Truly excellent service!
Another big plus, which you don’t see at many four-star hotels, is the complimentary welcome drink at the bar. You can redeem it until 11:00 PM (this was on a Saturday), and you can choose any drink you like. This was especially nice after a long day of travelling!
The staff are also very accommodating. They even let me take the drink and glass back to my room. Such great service! Definitely a hotel I would happily return to.

Upon arrival after a short wait we were checked in by very friendly and informative staff. The lobby is spacious, with plenty of seating and is very comfortable. There is a large patio outside for relaxing in. We had a “Superior” room which was perfectly adequate for our needs, with comfortable beds and a nice bathroom. The entire room was spotless. The room features a large TV, however be aware there are no English speaking TV channels (apart from news). Netflix and the likes are not featured. The hotel’s breakfast range was outstanding.

Great service and hospitality so far. 5 star all round.
We stayed 3 nights in mid July, from the check in we knew it would be a great stay. We were there with our 1 year old and the rooms were a perfect size, quiet and pitch black with black out curtains. We had the best sleep here.
Facilities are great, the roof top pool, although small is great for a dip to escape the heat. The area on the roof is quite decently sized.
A walk into the main square is just 10 minutes.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Catalonia Conde De Floridablanca with our two friends for three days before moving on to La Manga for a wedding. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The staff on reception were very friendly and helpful. Even though we arrived early they stored our luggage and recommended somewhere to have a breakfast. We had a lovely room on the 7th floor with wonderful views. The restaurant staff were equally friendly and helpful and there was a constant replacement of food, the quality of which was second to none. The manageress sat on the table next to us a couple of times and was really pleasant. Overall, the service was excellent, the room perfect, all the staff were wonderful and efficient and the location was perfect as all places of interest were just a short walk away. Thank you for the wonderful time we had at your hotel and will definitely recommend it to our friends and family.

This hotel was faultless. Great location with amazing staff who were helpful, proactive and friendly. Our (superior) room was spotless, with an enormous and comfortable bed. The bathroom was large and immaculate. We took breakfast every day, and the self service was excellent, with plenty on offer for all tastes. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant on several occasions and thought the food and service was superb. What made our stay so good was definitely the staff. The hotel is extremely well managed, with amazing staff. We would definitely stay again if we visited Murcia.

Lovely hotel. Great location. Walking to shops church coffee etc.
The staff especially Alejandro was so charming and helpful.
The bar or coffee was always open. Housekeeping was prompt and very thorough.
Highly recommend.
Only caveat: if you have a car, it is €20 per night And the garage is quite small and difficult at least for me to park in! Maybe that’s just me, but they were very tight corners and spaces.

I recently had the pleasure of checking out these new

genuinely exceeded all
expectations. From the
moment you walk in, the

atmosphere.The location is unbeatable-a
truly prime spot that puts you close to all the best dining, shopping, and transit options.
Convenience doesn't get better than this.
However, the crowning glory of this property is the incredible rooftop terrace. It's an

Honestly not impressed at all with the experience. First, the housekeeping staff made us feel very uncomfortable. We were leaving our room and the housekeeping staff asked if we wished to have our room cleaned, we politely declined and had left the “do not disturb” sign on. The lady made us uncomfortable and asked to clean our room because if not “they would take it out of her paycheck”. It was honestly an uncomfortable position, and if this is the case that’s pretty messed up for a hotel to do that to their staff. Regardless, the woman was persistent and made my husband and I uncomfortable. To make matters worse, they forgot the towels for our room and the lobby wasn’t responding so we had to dry off with the handtowels instead.
Second, it will be difficult to sleep at night. The hotel is right next to a cathedral, so people passing by screaming or talking will wake you up. Garbage crew drove by every night close to midnight, so those noises definitely weren’t muted by the windows.
Finally, they don’t tell you that they charge you for water in the mini fridge, which is insane. €2.50 per bottle! If you’re going to charge, at least be honest with the client. Although the hotel is in a pretty convenient location in Murcia, we will not be staying here again.

For the money it was good. Clean room with everything you need (apart from any tea/coffee making facilities). Not too noisy in the night and very good beds. Good location and not far from the centre. We paid the 15 Euro/day to park in Pacoche Hotel opposite which was ok but some very small spaces

Doesn't even deserve one star, at the price we paid. We paid a hotel price. If we had only been charged a backpacker price, then we would have expected what it was. Sack that old rude guy on reception too.

Crap we didn't stay there. Beds were like what you see in a jail cell on tv. No bigger than a child's bed, thin bit of cloth which is their idea of bedding. No air con and dark. You can't turn around in the cupboard coverted to a shower, which has a cheap plastic door. I refused to stay. You couldn't pay me to stay there.

Our stay at Apartamentos Centro Histórico by Trian in Murcia was a real highlight of our trip.
The apartment was modern, chic, cosy and exceptionally clean, with stylish furnishings and plenty of natural light. The multiple balcony windows were a beautiful feature and made the space feel bright, spacious and welcoming. It looked exactly like the advertised photographs — if anything, it was even better in person.
The location was fantastic, right in the heart of Murcia, with the main tourist attractions, restaurants, cafés and city centre all within easy walking distance. We also found parking at a car park just 3 minutes away, which was incredibly convenient.
From the beautiful interiors and cleanliness to the location and overall comfort, we couldn’t fault our stay.
Highly recommended if you’re visiting Murcia — we’d happily stay here again.
You do have to pay a 100euro deposit. But you do get it back if the room is left in good condition and no damages are made. Understandable. As a lot of time and effort has been put in to the rooms.

Small hostel on third floor of historic early 20C building on busy pedestrian street close to the cathedral. Friendly & helpful staff. Not by any means a 'oarty' hostel but good value and clean. Traditional metal bunksbut added privacy in bottom bunks which have curtains. Charging points by bunk but no shelf/bunk lights.
Lockers a bit on the small side - fittly combination lock s fitted and lockers have a 1eu charge.
Would happily stay again and apply to recommend.

There is just one standing fan in the room—a bit inadequate for a city that gets so hot in the summer. The showers are very cramped; it’s difficult to open the door being inside. The design was clearly overthought.
The hostel’s location is a definite plus. The staff is fine.
Chris Li★★★★★
Amazingly good location for the price. I arrived after the stated check-in times but just let them know and they'll accomodate you. Greeted by a friendly guy (who only spoke Italian!) The doors in the shower/bathrooms could do with some maintenance, but does the job. Can be a bit loud at night if your room faces the street.

Clean hostel in the middle of town.
Isa and Emilia were very friendly and helpful, thanks! They are great.
The hostel is cleaned every day and they seem to disinfect the beds when guests leave. The sheets and duvets are better quality than in many places. Sadly, the showers aren't very good (low water pressure of an old building?). The kitchen isn't great but it's fine for couple of days and you might even meet new people there!
There was one small but delicate issue - I didn't feel very comfortable with the many, loud Italian conversations amongst staff that happened a lot over various days. It sounded like a fighting couple (maybe that's just bc Italian is very expressive? I don't know what they were saying. But if you have a problem with hearing an angry sounding man, be warned... )

I felt immediately much safer and she gave me lots of recommendations of what to do in murcia. Thank god for this hostal and her help!! As a solo woman traveler, this means a lot. Thank you so much.

Stayed here 4 nights for a conference recently. Would not recommend if you have other options. First off, the location is not in a nice area. It is about a 20 minute walk from the city centre and the walk is through a pretty dirty/sketchy area. Not somewhere I would feel comfortable walking alone at night. The staff were nice enough, most do not speak great English which is a bit unusual for front desk reception staff at a large hotel. The rooms could be cleaner. There was a sewage smell in my bathtub the entire stay that staff told me they would send someone to assess but never did. The pool area looked lovely and well maintained and we were looking forward to using it...unfortunately we were only told at check in that during April it was only open on saturdays and sundays. Nobody could explain why this was despite the fact that it was 30 degrees celcius and would have been appreciated. The gym is absolutely tiny and poorly stocked and there were line ups outside of people waiting to use it. The breakfast was good, with fresh orange juice and reasonable options.

I’ve stayed at Hotel Nelva Murcia regularly for work over the past six years, along with multiple other employees from my company, but this will absolutely be our last visit.
The final insult was being charged €90 to send a small valuable item just a four-hour drive away. That’s beyond unreasonable — and something neither I nor my colleagues have ever experienced anywhere in the world despite constant travel.
To be honest, this just pushed us to finally call out the long list of issues we’ve been ignoring for years. Rooms and bathrooms often have a bad smell, cleanliness is inconsistent, and we’ve repeatedly come across dirty surfaces. This is not what you expect from a supposed 4-star hotel.
The staff experience is just as poor. Some are fine, but others — especially security — are openly rude, giving uncomfortable looks and creating a very unwelcoming atmosphere for guests.
The location doesn’t help either. It’s not in a great area and doesn’t feel particularly safe, especially at night. Add to that a terrible gym — small, outdated, and barely worth using — and the overall experience falls well short of 4-star standards.
We stayed here purely out of convenience for work, often booking multiple rooms for several days at a time, but enough is enough. Between the poor service, lack of cleanliness, declining standards, and ridiculous charges like this, none of us will be returning.

Hotel Nelva
This hotel is located outside the historic centre, but you can walk to the most important sights in about 20 minutes.
My room was spacious and clean. Some of the furniture may be a little worn out, but everything works. The bed was exceptionally big and comfortable. The bathroom was spacious too, with both bath and shower. The rooms are quite soundproof: there is only some noise from the street and absolutely no noise from neighbours or hallway. There were parties at the hotel on 2 nights, but I couldn't hear a thing.
Breakfast was excellent, with a large choice of food and drinks.
Staff is kind and even arranged for a 'breakfast to go' package because I had an early flight when I left.
The pool is big and has plenty of lounge chairs, at least at the end of May. They provide towels. You may want to check opening times, as the pool is not open every day at this time of the year.
I read reviews here about the hotel being in a 'bad neighbourhood'. This is exaggerated. It isn't a fancy area, but a residential area with flats. Some may look a little shabby, but that's the city for you... I never felt threatened or in danger; nobody bothered me, day or night. Just people going about their day.
There are 2 supermarkets nearby (LIDL and Carrefour).
The hotel had a large parking garage in the basement. The price is a little steep, but it's convenient and parking outside is almost impossible.
If I must say 1 negative thing: there are no tea and coffee facilities in the room. I didn't really miss this in the hot weather, but it could be nice in winter.
So... value for money! I was really happy with my stay here.
Essential Tips for Booking a Hotel Near Murcia Cathedral
Securing the right room in the historic center requires a bit of local insight. The area is highly sought after due to its convenience, so planning ahead is crucial. Understanding the logistics of the old town will save you time and ensure your stay is as seamless as possible. Here are the key factors to consider before confirming your reservation.
1. Verify Vehicle Access and Parking Policies
The streets surrounding the Cathedral are largely pedestrianized or restricted to authorized vehicles. If you are arriving by car, do not assume the hotel has a driveway. Check if the property offers valet service or has an agreement with a nearby public parking garage, such as the underground parking at Plaza de la Glorieta or Avenida de la Libertad.
2. Consider the Noise Factor
While staying in the center is lively, rooms facing the main plazas can be subject to late-night chatter or early morning delivery trucks. If you are a light sleeper, request an interior-facing room or a room on a higher floor. Many boutique hotels have double-glazed windows, but a quiet orientation is always safer.
3. Look for Rooftop or Terrace Access
Murcia is famous for its warm climate and stunning views of the Cathedral’s bell tower. Several hotels in the vicinity feature rooftop terraces where you can enjoy a sunset drink. This amenity significantly enhances the value of your stay, providing a private escape from the bustling streets below.
4. Book Flexible Rates During Festivals
Murcia comes alive during events like the Bando de la Huerta or the September Fair. While staying near the Cathedral is spectacular during these times, the streets become extremely crowded. Ensure your booking has a flexible cancellation policy in case your travel plans shift, and be prepared for higher rates during these peak periods.
5. Prioritize Walkability Over Amenities
In the old town, space is at a premium. You may find that a 4-star hotel here has smaller rooms than a suburban equivalent. Do not let this deter you. The value of stepping out of your door directly into the historic quarter—skipping taxis and public transport—far outweighs the benefit of a larger room located far from the action.
Choosing to stay near Murcia Cathedral places you in the center of a living museum. The convenience of walking to the Real Casino de Murcia, the Romea Theatre, or the bustling Mercado de Correos cannot be overstated. You are not just booking a room; you are booking a front-row seat to the daily theater of Murcian life.
As you finalize your travel plans, remember that the best experiences often come from simply wandering. With your accommodation secured in the heart of the city, you can explore the hidden corners, plazas, and culinary delights at your own pace. Enjoy the seamless blend of history and modern comfort that these hotels provide.
