12 Best Cafes in Murcia

Murcia is a city that rewards slowing down. Known for its sun-drenched plazas, baroque cathedral, and easy access to the huerta, it has quietly built a coffee culture that feels both local and cosmopolitan. The best cafes here are not just places to grab an espresso; they are neighborhood anchors where students study, families gather, and conversations stretch long into the afternoon. Finding your favorite spot is part of the pleasure of getting to know the city.

The local scene blends traditional Spanish bar culture with a growing specialty coffee movement. You will find old-school establishments serving café asiático in glass cups next to modern roasters experimenting with single-origin beans. This diversity means there is a perfect table for every mood, whether you need a quiet corner to work or a sunny terrace for people-watching.

Quality in Murcia often comes down to detail. Many of the best addresses roast their own beans, bake their own pastries, or have a deep relationship with local suppliers. The city’s warm climate also shapes the experience; cold brew, café con hielo, and shaded outdoor seating are essential during the long summer months. A great cafe here understands how to keep you comfortable.

Location matters, but so does atmosphere. Some of Murcia’s finest coffee spots are tucked down narrow side streets near the Plaza de las Flores, while others sit on quiet residential corners away from the tourist flow. The best approach is to explore on foot, letting the smell of fresh coffee and the sound of steaming milk guide you. Each neighborhood has its own rhythm and its own loyal regulars.

Price and pace vary significantly. A quick espresso at the bar might cost little more than a euro, while a carefully prepared V60 pour-over can cost three or four times that. Neither is inherently better; they simply serve different needs. Knowing what kind of experience you want before you sit down will help you choose wisely from the city’s many excellent options.

Accessibility is also worth considering. Many of Murcia’s historic cafes are located in pedestrian-friendly zones, making them easy to reach by foot or tram. If you are driving, look for spots near the city center parking garages or plan to park slightly outside the core and walk in. The city is compact enough that you can visit several cafes in a single relaxed morning.

Below is a curated list of places that consistently deliver excellent coffee, welcoming service, and a genuine sense of place. Each entry reflects careful observation and local knowledge rather than a generic ranking. Whether you are a visitor or a resident looking for a new favorite, these cafes offer a true taste of Murcia’s evolving coffee identity.

Love it 😍 They have good croissants and savory food They are kind and they speak English You have place inside, very clean and a small terrace outside Nothing special about the atmosphere, but is very beautiful to sit next to Murcia Cathedral

Livable cafe at the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga. We only tried their coffee which was average and not speciality.

The atmosphere in this cafe is always great, it’s a lovely place to work too. The service from Alex is always incredible as he is super friendly! 🙂

We absolutely loved our stop at Santa Gloria in Murcia! 🌟 The café has such a warm and inviting decor—cozy wood, greenery, and a stylish vibe that makes it perfect for relaxing over breakfast or brunch. The location couldn’t be better, right in Plaza del Cardenal Belluga, with a view that pairs perfectly with good coffee. We tried their toasts: one with creamy avocado topped with fresh cherry tomatoes 🍅🥑 and another with gooey cheese and a perfectly cooked egg 🍳—both were delicious and made with quality bread. We also treated ourselves to their iced latte topped with crumbled biscuit, and later couldn’t resist a decadent classic frappe with whipped cream 🍫🍦. Everything tasted fresh and indulgent without being too heavy. The pastry counter was tempting too, full of croissants, Spanish tortilla, and sweets that looked straight out of a bakery dream. 🥐 What really stood out was the vibe—modern yet relaxed, a mix of locals and travelers, with friendly service that made us feel right at home. It was the perfect pause during our Murcia visit, a place where you can enjoy good food, great drinks, and people-watch in one of the city’s most beautiful squares. Highly recommended if you’re in the area—we’d happily come back! ☕✨

Nice air cooled bakery well presented with wicker chairs and wooden tables, offering typical Spanish tostada breakfast as well as others. Pastries are lovely and varied. Also offers take away salads of which the salmon with Mango is highly recommend. Nice friendly staff who were very helpful. Prices very reasonable being direct on the Cathedral Square.Speciality infused teas ( eg blueberry) and fine coffee served here.

I can’t recommend this place highly enough. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted courteously by our server and made to feel genuinely welcome. We were quickly seated at a table with a fantastic view of the back of the cathedral, which created a really special and relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the fruit and yogurt bowl, which was simply superb—fresh, beautifully presented, and incredibly refreshing. It was the perfect light start to the day. My wife had the avocado and egg on toast, which looked just as impressive, with perfectly cooked eggs and generous, high-quality ingredients. What really stood out, beyond the food, was the overall experience. The staff were friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and clearly took pride in what they do. Combined with excellent coffee and that stunning setting, it made for a memorable visit. Great staff, great food, great views, and fantastic coffee—honestly, what more could you want? We’ll definitely be coming back.

Absolutely loved CaféLab! The coffee here is on another level — you can really taste the quality and care in every cup. We had a café bombón and an iced latte, and both were fantastic. The bombón was rich and perfectly sweet, while the iced latte was incredibly smooth and refreshing. The atmosphere is modern and relaxed, with a great vibe for chilling or catching up with friends. Everything felt thoughtfully done, from the drinks to the service. Definitely one of the best coffee spots in Murcia — highly recommend! ☕✨

During my visit to your café this morning, a young staff member named "Nayera" was working there. She was exceptionally polite, kind, and professional. I really appreciated her warm and respectful attitude. I would also like to thank you for the excellent quality of your coffee. I had a wonderful experience.

Called in whilst on a one day visit from a cruise ship. Very friendly service and an interesting design to the cafe interior. Had a local speciality, asiatico, which was excellent. If we ever come to Murcia again we will definitely return here.
Helen Taylor★★★★★
One of the best coffee shops I’ve been in, absolutely loved our food and coffee. Will definitely recommend, just by the cathedral.

Without any exaggeration, this was the best brunch I’ve ever had in my life. They truly deserve a Michelin star. The space is beautifully designed, the food is so incredibly good it’s almost unbelievable, and the service is outstanding. You can genuinely feel that the staff love what they do — they take time with every guest, have real conversations, and make you feel truly welcome. We even received great local recommendations, which made the experience even more special. We haven’t had such a complete and exceptional experience in a very long time, and we can’t wait to come back.

Lovely experience having lunch at Mañeo today! After I read the glowing reviews I had to stop in. The staff are so friendly and the food was delicious – standout for me was the Mañerito Dubai with vanilla ice cream. 🙂 Clean, cozy atmosphere & decorated so cute for Valentine’s Day. I can’t wait to come back for brunch the next time I am in Murcia!

Everything was delicious. Excellent service and the portions are very generous, so you won't leave hungry. Everything was beautiful and, of course, very kawaii. The only downside was that it was a bit warm, but that's not unusual for Murcia in June. Everything was great, and I hope to return.
Juan Javier Garcia★★★★★
I discovered Kawait, a Japanese-style café in Murcia, and I have to say the experience was one of those that starts with a simple "let's grab a coffee" and ends with you wondering why you haven't become a regular yet. 😄 To begin with, the name itself is charming: Kawait means "monkey," and it's a perfect fit. Because there's so much of that adorable, carefully crafted, and enchanting Japanese aesthetic here that makes even ordering a coffee feel like a cultural activity. You go in thinking you're going for a snack and leave wondering if you should learn Japanese. The place has a very pleasant, tranquil atmosphere with that characteristic Japanese touch, and the decor is meticulously curated. You can tell they haven't just thrown things together haphazardly: everything has that minimalist yet welcoming feel that makes you comfortable without feeling like you've walked into a furniture store where you're even afraid to sit down. And then, of course, there's the coffee. It's very well prepared, with that care for the product that is truly appreciated. But if you're one of those people who say, "I just want a coffee"... watch out, because the menu has enough temptations to make that "just coffee" end up accompanied by something sweet, then another sweet, and, if you're not careful, an Instagram photo justifying your decision. 😂 The products are also beautifully presented, which perfectly matches the philosophy of the place. Here, you eat with your eyes first, and then you try to convince yourself that you won't order anything else. The staff also contributes greatly to the experience, with a friendly and welcoming service, without that feeling that they're watching your watch to make you finish and free up the table. In short, Kawait is a different kind of place in Murcia, perfect for enjoying a leisurely coffee, having an afternoon snack, meeting up with friends, or simply treating yourself. It has personality, something that's increasingly appreciated when so many cafes seem to be cut from the same cloth. And one last warning: if you go in saying, "We'll just pop in for five minutes," don't trust yourself. You'll probably end up sitting for half an hour, with a coffee, something sweet, three photos, and wondering when you're going to come back.
Veronica★★★★☆
I visited their Madrid location a while ago, and it was a pleasant surprise to see them open one in Murcia. The place is really cool; perhaps a little small. The service was excellent, super friendly. But when it comes to desserts... I'm not convinced. It's ideal for showing off and having fun with the headbands and accessories you can wear...

Very atmospheric bar with interesting display of jazz musical instruments. Great beer and tapas and nice helpful staff.

I did not visit the place, therefore 3 stars. At this time or writing the opening hours of this bar are from early in the morning to midnight. However, when I visited this place during an afternoon it was closed. I contacted the place by phone to see if I had mistaken and/or if the owner could give me some clarity with regarding to the siesta closing times (with the goal of updating Google), however the owner only mentioned "I close whenever I wish to close." So, don't blindly trust the times here on google or you'll could find yourself knocking on a closed door. Although this review may sound critical as a result of cultural differences, however, I fully respect the culture of the owner and I am a big fan of siestas myself. Take care! 🙂

It was quite unpleasant experience - the timetable on Google maps says that they work on Sundays without the break, but when I tried to enter on Sunday at 14:45, they told me that it's closed. Not fair, you could at least change your official timetable on Google maps. The coffee was ok.

The food tasted super awesome, and the waitstaff was super nice! David helped us super well, and his recommendations were amazing. We ordered toast with tomato and another one with cheese. Everything tastes really good, and the recommended cappuccino was really good as well. Definitely come again for the lunch or dinner menu. We paid 15 for 4 people.

Great little Murciana bar. The atmosphere inside is super cute and chill, and of course they have the outdoor seating. I'm pretty sure these were the best nachos I've had in Spain so far. And the place and the surrounding places are very LGBT+ friendly.

Perfect spot for breakfast! Friendly service (and they speak English), with delicious food all around. All the toast options are flavorful: New York Toast, Capri Toast, and Scola Toast; but the edges of the bread are a bit too hard to cut. Fancy pick: The Royal Eggs Plate Must-try: The Salmon Bagel Breakfast

Manchester Fantastic★★★☆☆
This cafe is at a very good location next to the beautiful Teatro de Romea. Nice food, good coffee, very reasonable prices. But this place can get very busy. It also feels slightly understaffed, the two waiters struggled to attend to a few dozen customers all at once. They might benefit from having one additional waiter. It was all good apart from the long wait to get served. The smoked salmon roll tapas was delicious.
MADDOGLEP★★★★☆
Wandering through the old town with Paulicarus and Jorvic we stumbled on this lovely square (Plaza Julian Romea) so time for a couple of small beers (2.3€ each) . A nice shaded spot outside this modern cafe. They have a menu of the day for 11.95€ but only just had breakfast. Had one marinera (2.60€) between us. Very tastey. A peaceful traffic free spot to people watch. Most of the indoor seating is upstairs..as are the toilets.

Tips for Enjoying Cafes in Murcia

Understanding a few local customs will make your cafe visits much more rewarding. Murcia’s coffee scene is warm and informal, but there are small habits and timing quirks that can improve your experience. These practical suggestions will help you order with confidence, avoid busy periods, and discover hidden gems that many tourists miss.

First, learn the basic coffee vocabulary. A café solo is a small espresso, while a cortado is cut with a little milk. If you prefer more milk, order a café con leche. For something uniquely Murcian, try the café asiático, a sweetened coffee with condensed milk, Licor 43, and a touch of cinnamon. Asking for it at a traditional bar will earn you an approving nod.

Second, respect the local schedule. Many cafes open early for breakfast, close briefly in the afternoon, and then reopen for the evening paseo. The busiest time is usually between 10 a.m. and noon, especially on weekends. If you want a quieter experience, visit on a weekday morning or after the lunch rush has cleared.

Third, embrace the terrace culture. Murcia enjoys mild winters and hot summers, so outdoor seating is a year-round feature. In summer, choose a cafe with shade or misting systems. In winter, look for sunny plazas where you can sit without a jacket. A table on a good terrace is often worth waiting a few extra minutes for.

Fourth, do not overlook the pastry counter. Many of the best cafes in Murcia partner with local bakeries or make their own sweets in-house. A simple tostada with tomato and olive oil, a slice of tarta de limón, or a small ensaimada can turn a coffee break into a proper local ritual. Ask what is fresh that day.

Finally, carry a little cash. While most modern specialty cafes accept cards, some traditional bars and smaller neighborhood spots still prefer efectivo for small orders. Having a few euros in coins will make your visit smoother and help you support small family-run businesses that keep Murcia’s cafe culture alive.

Murcia’s cafe scene is not about chasing trends or ticking boxes. It is about finding a place that makes you feel welcome, where the coffee is made with care and the hours slip by easily. The city’s compact size means you can wander from a historic plaza to a modern roastery in just a few minutes, discovering a different side of local life with every stop.

Whether you are starting your day with a strong espresso or ending it with a slow café asiático, the cafes of Murcia offer a simple but profound pleasure. Take your time, follow your curiosity, and let the city’s relaxed rhythm set the pace.
