12 Best Family-Friendly Restaurants in Tours

Finding a place to eat when you are traveling with children can turn a relaxing holiday into a stressful guessing game. You need a venue that welcomes the noise of happy toddlers, offers high chairs, and serves food that doesn’t require a culinary leap of faith for a picky eater. In a city celebrated for its gastronomy like Tours, the fear is often that "family-friendly" translates to a compromise on the authentic French experience.

Fortunately, the capital of Touraine is a vibrant, welcoming city that balances refined dining with a relaxed, family-oriented culture. From the cobbled streets of the historic Old Town to the bustling banks of the Loire River, you will find a diverse array of eateries designed to please every generation. The local restaurant scene understands that parents deserve a good glass of local Vouvray wine just as much as kids deserve a perfectly cooked steak haché.

This guide cuts through the uncertainty by highlighting the best spots where the staff won’t flinch when you walk in with a stroller. We have prioritized restaurants that offer practical amenities like changing facilities, speedy service for short attention spans, and menus that bridge the gap between adult sophistication and child-friendly comfort. Whether you are looking for a quick lunch between museum visits or a leisurely dinner that lasts into the evening, Tours has a table for you.

Our selection focuses on establishments known for their warm hospitality and consistent quality, ensuring that your meal is a highlight of your trip rather than a logistical hurdle. We have considered the layout of the venues, looking for spaces that allow families to breathe without disturbing couples on a romantic date. This ensures a more relaxing experience for you and a more pleasant atmosphere for everyone in the restaurant.

From traditional French brasseries serving hearty classics to modern pizzerias and crêperies that kids adore, the variety is impressive. You do not have to settle for fast food to keep the peace; instead, you can introduce your children to the joy of French dining culture in a setting that understands their limits. These restaurants prove that dining out with the family in France can be a genuine pleasure.

Below, you will find the definitive list of the best family-friendly restaurants in Tours, each selected for its unique ability to make parents and children feel equally at home.

Great value. Crêpes are really well cooked. I had galette (buckwheat) with spinach, goat cheese and fried egg (they are flexible and kind to make egg as you wish!)

Servers are super nice!! The place is decorated in a very fun way and its very big with a super nice terrace and great playlist. The galettes are good, not incredible but for the price, you couldn’t ask for more. I will come back when Im back at Tours

The galettes and crepes are delicious and authentic with affordable price. The staff is very nice and sincere. The restaurant decoration is especially original and unique.

Waited over half an hour just to have someone take our order, the place wasn't busy at all (us and one other couple sat outside). Staff sat outside eating on the table behind us, while we were clearly waiting to order (same staff sat us down). Had to ask them if we could place our order and felt like we were bothering them (I understand they have to have a break but others had been seated after us and had been served straight away). When our galettes came mine tasted strongly of plastic, it had a really unpleasant flavour and I couldn't finish it. Not a great experience.

I would absolutely return. It was fantastic meal! The waiter was helpful at translating the menu into English. The scallops were my favorite. I also liked the pear and almond pastry dessert. He recommended fancy salt options for our meals.

I had an absolutely fantastic time at this restaurant and couldn’t recommend it more. The food was outstanding – perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. What really made the evening special was being attended by Killian. He has an impressive knowledge of the wine list and the menu, and he explained both the dishes and the pairings in a very clear and friendly way. His recommendations were spot‑on and really elevated the whole meal. On top of that, the service was warm, attentive, and relaxed – he checked in just enough to make sure everything was perfect without being intrusive. Thanks to Killian and the whole team, I walked away feeling very well taken care of and already looking forward to coming back.
Liz MacRae★★★★★
An absolutely fabulous restaurant with knowledgeable and friendly staff. As a solo female traveller, I sometimes find it hard to get a table at “peak” times, but I was seated mid-terrasse and made to feel super welcome. Ronan was my waiter and he was attentive to my needs, spoke English (although I tried to speak French), he made exemplary wine suggestions, and I wasn’t rushed in any way at all. The menu was lovely, and the food was delicious. My only criticism was that the menu stated entree and plat was €21.50 (with some exclusions), but my starter and main were charged separately so €25.50, but I didn’t realise until after and it was so lovely that I don’t mind.
Filip Fedorov★★★★★
The food was amazing it was classic like not too much things it was a medium menu but the choice was grate.

The waitress was very polite and responsive. Front of house was 5/5, she took great care of us. Unfortunately, our meats were not cooked correctly. We asked for medium and they were rare. The seasoning of my burger was not mixed well so some bites were very over salted. The tenders, fries and dips were good.
Hallgrim H★★★☆☆
There is a lot to choose from in Tours and the city centre. This is not fancy, but suitable for a light meal. They basically have three burgers on their menu and at least two of them is pulled pork or pulled beaf. So far so good. The staff is very sweet and friendly and we really felt they did what they could. BUT we waited very long for our food and the the burgers were cold. The fries were nice and hot, but the pulled beef was a disappointment. 0,5 l beer was nearly 9 euros and that is frankly too much. If the beer had been a bit cheaper and the burgers a bit better, I would have given it 5 stars. But the burgers are at best mediocre and the beer is expensive. Staff is excellent, and that is why they get 3 stars today.
bianca foodie★★☆☆☆
The presentation of the burgers was beautiful! Yet the burgers were cooked rare! I had asked for the meat to be cooked 3/4, medium well done. Neither my father nor I could finish the burgers. For such an costly meal, the server could have been more thoughtful of our needs and accommodated. Otherwise, the fried chicken appetizer was great!
Will van Ingen★★★★★
Alright, let's talk about this place. Very detailed and prepared atmosphere. Beer choice is local and really authentic, it's unknown and an experience. The burger choice is short but very sure of itself. I chose a Mediterranean Burger with fries and aromatized mayonnaise. It came very graphic, personally I wouldn't expect much more. It was very good but I would recommend having it hotter to give more intensity to the flavor. The wine was at room temperature or likely 22°C which I understand was a mistake. 7 degrees less would have been appreciated. But it's a mistake and this happens even to the best of us so it's not a big deal. Oh yes, music was cool. Not to low and not to loud. Just enough to give some vibes with the ability to talk forgetting about it. Overall it's 5 stars cause I very much liked everything and could feel the work and high quality.

Fantastic food. Make sure you book in advance to have a table. Classic recipes reinvented! Very friendly owner. Don’t miss it when you are in Tours!!

I rarely get emotional over food, but quality ingredients, skilled cooking, thoughtful service and a warm farmhouse atmosphere all in one room reached me at the core. Taste, look, smell, sound, presentation, all of it landed. This is the France I come back for. How this place sits at 4.5 stars is beyond me. It deserves the trip, the wait, whatever it takes. We arrived to a warm, brief welcome from the maître d', who showed us to our table and then, knowing we were after wine, pointed us toward the cellar at the back. The cellar is small and packed, and you are welcome to browse the bottles yourself. We were the first table of the evening and a bit early, so he joined us inside and guided the choice. The tasting confirmed it. Spot on for the food, and exactly to our taste. Back at the table, we looked over the menu. The marrow bone arrived fast, generous, the marrow thick and rich, finished with fleur de sel and a meat jus reduction, served over two slices of bread. The bread itself is worth a paragraph. They keep a huge multi-grain miche at the front of the dining room and slice from it throughout the service. It matched every dish and every sauce. The room is part of it too. Old beams, warm light, brick and timber walls, and black and white photos of Belmondo, Delon and other icons of French cinema watching over the tables. It feels like a French farmhouse that somehow ended up in the heart of Tours. The pan-fried vegetables came first, and my partner said they were the best she had ever tasted. I am inclined to agree. Then the côte de bœuf, brought to the table in a copper pan on a bed of freshly fired herbs and grasses, still smoking and glowing at the edges. The aroma alone was part of the dish. It was cooked exactly as we asked, even though we wanted it a touch more done than they usually serve. With hindsight, I should have trusted their recommendation; the meat was so tender it would have been just as good rarer. Finishing the bottle, more conversation, and the careful attention of the maître d' kept on throughout the evening, even as the kitchen fired up and the room filled in around us. He never lost the thread of our table.

We reserved online the day before as we saw that Sunday dinner would be a difficult day/time to dine in Tours. They replied quickly which we appreciated very much because another restaurant didn’t respond for over a day only to say sorry, we can’t take you. We were given a choice of indoor or on the patio and we sprung for outdoor seating as the indoor seating was in close quarters with the strong smell of the kitchen and a family dining with a small infant/child. The pros: a-by the glass wine pours were generous; b-portion sizes are likewise generous (come hungry); c-the dining vibe is family style with mains served in a casserole or serving platter and sides in a shared bowl with separate dining plates; d-fresh meat/fish/chicken; e- tasty stuffing for the fish and chicken; f-lived the seeded bread served (crunchy crust and soft fluffy inside) Cons: a-bit too salty (especially the roasted seasonable vegetables and the stuffings for fish and chicken) b- grilled corner of bread served with the bone marrow was nearly inedible (tough day old bread resuscitated with butter/garlic/parsley). Overall it totally hit the mark for a Sunday dinner.
Ej Castro★★☆☆☆
The food at Le Chien Fou was generally good, and we appreciated that they were able to seat us without a reservation. However, the salad did not seem very fresh, with visible signs on the leaves, and the food took quite a long time to arrive. Unfortunately, just as we were about to leave, a small roach crawled onto the table, which really affected the overall experience.
Scott Landay★★★★★
The perfect dinner in Tours We had 1 night in Tours and much like you reading these reviews, we didn’t know where to have dinner. And what a pleasant surprise Le Chien Fou was. It ended up being one of those special meals we will remember forever. First, if you’re a wine lover, your meal starts with a visit to the restaurants wine cellar room where one of the staff will help you choose a bottle of wine. We chose Chateau La Negly La Falaise which was perfect - bold, smooth, silky. For mains we had the Duck and the Chicken - the duck was incredible, tender and in a delicious orange glaze. Probably one of the best duck dishes we’ve ever had. Then comes the chicken - at first I was like “do I really want chicken?” - yes, yes you do. Tender, juicy, full of flavor - the best chicken ever. And to top it off the service was incredibly attentive and friendly. Our waiter even gave us tips for rest of our road trip through France. The restaurant is also dog friendly, ensuring we had a comfortable space for our dog. This will be a meal to remember. Enjoy!
Ricardo Macpherson-Ortiz★★★★★
Best of show... Under a pergola of flowers. Amazing meal and wine. If you want a digestive ask for the Trou Tourangeau, something wonderful will happen. Bone Marrow was supreme. They do doggy bags... When ordering wine they will take you in to their wine cave.

We came for the Saturday brunch and had iced tonka lattes, the French toast of the day (maple!), the eggs Benedict, and potatoes. Super yummy!

We stopped here for lunch and were lucky to get a place. I had Eggs Benedict which was served with a nice salad - the eggs were perfectly cooked with a nice runny yolk. I had tap water to drink. I had a vanilla mousse with caramel and pecan followed by a good long coffee. 46€ for two is good value. I would eat here again.

A good but value option bistro in Tours. We sat outside and enjoyed the evening vibes. Food was Ok, good enough quality but not what you get elsewhere. Equally, it was a little cheaper. Not best suited for large groups. Totally adequate.

This is a small family own restaurant The food is delicious. The service great they had the menu in English. The girls speak English. They were helpful, informative, and very professional. I had the sea bass which was excellent with some vegetables first I had the hot cheese with walnuts and maple syrup, which was just too good we also had the polenta good and the pork chop, which was good a little tough but good they came with potatoes those creamy potatoes that make you say oh my God too many calories, but you eat them anyway, I also had the chocolate cake with ice cream. The chocolate cake was not as good as I had hoped because it has that melted chocolate in the center and that’s not something I really like, but I did have some of it. it was a nice dining experience in France, I can’t really get that kind in the states. This kind of home cooking creative food. That only the French really know how to make if you’re in the area make sure you make reservations
Leng Ooi★★★★★
Cosy restaurant with side walk seating and good French classics that tastes amazing for the prices. They have a selection of local wines too. We went at 7pm and they were all fully booked except for outside seating. So please call to reserve if you want a table.

We look for regional cuisine in Tours, what this restaurant is. The appetizer were good, the main dish was disappointing. The vegetables were barely warm and the fish was very small and was not a legal size for me to keep when I go fishing. The desert was microscopic... And to finish the bill was substantial... 💲💲💲.

We enjoyed a 3 course formule for lunch. Service was warm and friendly, and the venue was entertaining for people watching along the busy street. The food was very good and looked like art!

We just had a wonderful dinner at Comme à La Maison. We weren't sure what restaurant to pick, but I'm really happy that we chose this one. It is intimate and cozy, totally authentically local and quite high quality. The food was very delicious, and the cocktails and wines were amazing. The couple running the place were super friendly, spoke great English, and were undeniably skilled in the culinary arts. They accommodated our picky kid quite readily as well. At the end of an amazing meal, I got an education in the finer points of the different kinds of Chartreuse digestifs, with the kind of explanations and descriptions which you can only get from a true expert. I certainly recommend you try this place for a nice leisurely fine dining experience.

Upstairs very small private space. Fabulous food. We’ve been in France four weeks and best meal yet. Ava (sp) was the cook. The cheese quiche was superb. My wife had chicken and I had a vegetable plate. Excellent. Cab Franc from Loire Valley topped off the meal. Excellent service from our waiter.
Henning Matz★★★★★
Excellent dinner at Au Jardin. We had the 3 course, chefs tasting. It was reasonably priced especially for the location. We enjoyed everything served. Some of our standout favorites were the goat cheese and foie gras. Highly recommend it for anyone in the area. 10/10.
Mark Heywood★★★★★
A small place with a lot of heart and soul. We had the veal and what we call in Canada steel head fish (a cross between salmon and trout). Before dinner we had the “Complete” (various cheese and meats with bread served on a wooden board). All of it was excellent and the waiter was very helpful to ensure we had the best experience. The local beer was excellent too. Highly recommend this place and will be back when we come to Tours again.
Julie Adams★★★★★
We loved our relaxing visit here. Our party of 5 was taken care of very well by the owner and the lovely chef. The food was great, we had the lasagna and fish and chips, plus excellent cocktails and good wine recommendations. The owner even gave us tips on local wine tasting places in Chinon. He obviously cares very much about his guests' experiences.

We had an absolutely delightful dinner at Chez Madie. The service was very friendly, helpful, and professional. The draft beer selection was good. The lambic was delicious. The steak was tender and delicious. The eggplant was very tasty. The perfectly prepared fritters were crunchy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. The desserts were sweet delights. The ambiance was fantastic. The dining room was very nicely decorated, and the acoustics were great for a pleasant dinner conversation. Great people, great food, and great location.

If you can't tolerate gluten, this place is a nice place to eat. All the pancakes are made with buckwheat. The vegetarian curry filling was a little tame, though. I couldn't tell it was curry. You could spice it up a bit! The decorations speak for themselves...

It was surprisingly good! The place may look a little creepy because the decor is too much maybe😄 felt like the start of a sarcastic supernatural episode😂 it is designed like a grandma's house. Edit: The manager that responded to this review has reached out to us personally and has dealt with the issue satisfactorily. ——— Me and my brothers were regulars at this establishment for a lengthy period of time. Before going on a month vacation we used to come eat here every week for three months straight since the crêpes were quite good. Upon our return, my brother ordered the crêpe that he usually gets: “La Cousin Loïc” which unbeknownst to us, had its recipe changed from having Mustard Sauce, to Sour Cream. We absolutely hate Sour Cream so none of us could eat it. As we brought the issue up to the server, who already looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there working that evening, she began acting very argumentative about the things we were explaining to her. Telling us that the “menu” had been changed a month ago in response to us saying we were regulars. Saying she could “scoop the Sour Cream out with a spoon” as if that would solve the issue. She also mentioned in a snarky voice that “Next time you just have to ask for no Sour Cream and we will make it that way”. We were the ones who had to ask her for another crêpe in exchange, as she never offered us anything of the sort after taking the untouched crêpe away. All of this was a very displeasing and frustrating experience. But the cherry on top was that she put the untouched crêpe ON THE BILL! We will not be returning to this restaurant.

We looked for a breakfast spot because our hotel breakfast was not good. We had to wait until they opened at 10am, but it was very worth it. All of the food was amazing. The pancakes were light crisp and decedent. The eggs were perfect eggs and the bacon was candied a little bit and superb. Highly recommend! Also it was very nice getting to see the people who work there make each other laugh.

Came here a few times for coffees during my short stay in Tours. Had a few variations of their coffee: batch brew, long black, and flat white. They were all great and my personal preference was flat white in a small cup (which had less amount of milk than their standard version). The latte art of milk based drinks is always a welcome bonus, not just a pleasure to look at, it demonstrates the frothing technique and more importantly their passion in making coffees. They also have beautifully presented cakes and cookies (although I didn’t try any).
Karsten Lang Pedersen★★★★★
Everything on the menu is home made and very delicious. The coffee pulled to perfection from a light roast bean. An airconditioned section with games and activities is available in the back of the cafe.

We sat outside in the glass sheds. The menu was in English - I think they get a decent amount of tourists 😀. Crepes were nice. The orange flavored beer was very interesting.

Tips for Dining Out with Kids in Tours

Navigating the French dining schedule can be tricky for families used to eating early, but a little local knowledge goes a long way. To ensure your meals are memorable for all the right reasons, it helps to understand the rhythm of the city and how to leverage the local culture. These practical tips will help you avoid common pitfalls and make the most of the incredible food scene in Tours while keeping the little ones happy.

Respect the Service Hours: French restaurants often close their kitchens between lunch and dinner, typically from around 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM. If your children need to eat at 5:30 PM, you may struggle to find a kitchen open. Plan your day around the standard noon lunch and 7:30 PM dinner times, or look for brasseries and crêperies that offer "service continu" (all-day service) if you need flexibility.

Look for the "Menu Enfant": While not every upscale bistro will have one, most family-friendly spots in Tours offer a fixed-price kids’ menu. This usually includes a main course like chicken with fries or ham, a drink, and a dessert (often ice cream). It is an excellent value and saves you the hassle of translating complex menu items for a hungry child.

Book Ahead and Request a "Coin Calme": Restaurants in the Old Town can get very busy, especially on weekends. When reserving, mention that you are coming with children and request a table with space for a stroller or a high chair. This allows the staff to seat you in a corner where a bit of noise won’t disturb other diners, making the experience less stressful for you.

Embrace the Crêperie Culture: If your children are feeling overwhelmed by rich, multi-course French meals, pivot to a crêperie. Tours has a strong Breton influence, and crêperies are inherently family-friendly. They serve food quickly, the ingredients are simple (ham, cheese, egg, chocolate), and the atmosphere is usually casual and lively enough to mask the sounds of a fussy toddler.

Take a Riverside Stroll: If you have a long wait for your food or a child who needs to burn off energy before sitting still, utilize the Loire River banks. Many restaurants are just a short walk from the river, which is perfect for a pre-dinner walk or a post-meal sprint to tire them out before heading back to the hotel.

Dining out in Tours with your family is an opportunity to create lasting memories centered around the joy of good food and shared experiences. The city’s culinary identity is deeply rooted in hospitality, and you will find that most restaurateurs are genuinely happy to see young people learning to appreciate the table. With a bit of planning and the right list of venues, you can avoid the tourist traps and eat like a local.

Ultimately, the best family meal is one where everyone leaves with a full stomach and a smile. By choosing one of the recommended spots above, you are setting yourself up for a successful and delicious adventure in the heart of the Loire Valley. Bon appétit!
