12 Best Family-Friendly Restaurants in Arles

Dining out with children in a historic city like Arles can feel daunting if you are unsure which terraces will welcome sticky fingers, sudden mood swings, or a stroller parked next to a Roman ruin. The good news is that Provençal culture is inherently family-oriented, and the rhythm of dining here—long, leisurely, and social—actually suits the unpredictability of family life better than you might expect. The key is knowing which establishments offer the right balance of regional authenticity and practical amenities.

When searching for the perfect meal, you want more than just a children’s menu. You need space for a diaper bag, a tolerant attitude towards a toddler wandering to look at a fountain, and food that pleases both an adventurous adult palate and a picky five-year-old. Arles delivers on all fronts, provided you know where to look. From shaded garden courtyards to bustling squares where kids can watch the world go by, the city offers a surprising variety of options that do not sacrifice quality for convenience.

This guide focuses on restaurants that combine excellent local cuisine with a genuine welcome for younger guests. We have considered factors such as high chairs, quick service for hungry little ones, proximity to open spaces for pre-dinner energy burning, and menus that feature simple, recognizable ingredients alongside traditional Camargue specialties. Whether you are looking for a quick pizza after visiting the Amphitheatre or a relaxed Sunday lunch featuring local bull stew, Arles has a table waiting for you.

Understanding the local dining schedule is crucial for a stress-free experience. In Arles, lunch is typically served from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and dinner rarely starts before 7:30 PM. To avoid meltdowns, consider embracing the French tradition of a substantial lunch as your main meal, which allows for a lighter, earlier dinner in the evening. Many of the restaurants listed below offer continuous service or early seating, which is a lifesaver for families traveling with jet-lagged children or babies on strict schedules.

Beyond the food itself, the layout of Arles is incredibly walkable, making it easy to combine a meal with a visit to a playground or a stroll along the Rhône. Several of the venues selected are located on pedestrian-only squares, meaning you can enjoy your coffee while the kids chase pigeons safely within sight. We have prioritized locations where the ambiance is lively enough to absorb the natural noise of children, ensuring you won’t feel like you need to shush your baby every time they giggle or drop a fork.

Here are the best spots in Arles where the welcome is warm, the high chairs are available, and the food is memorable for every generation.

Very good food and perfect atmosphere. We enjoyed the time in the garden at the backyard.

First night in France and we loved the food! The owners are absolutely amazing! On a quiet street and just so lovely! Thank you for starting our vacation great!

Great experience, seasonal and local products revisited with Chef’s twist. Highly recommended if you are looking for a modern , local and tasty French cuisine!
Michael Bell★★★★★
The food was amazingly good. We had the local specialty of taureau and also the salade with smoked trout. A beautiful patio in the back had a welcome breeze. It was quiet and tucked away from the business of the street. Cafe gourmand filled in the corners with a delightful lemon custard and chocolate mousse. Our waiter even brought bubbles for our two year old. Highly Recommend. Merci Beaucoup!

Very friendly staff and the food is just amazing! I had the Toreau and it was delicious, you could taste the red wine in the sauce and the meat was incredibly tender! My wife had the Ravioles gratinee aux truffes and enjoyed the savoury taste thoroughly. We highly recommend this Gault Millaud Restaurant!

Excellent dishes, well presented. Menu changes daily for freshness

Everything was good, and the service was excellent. It looked only two staff were working as I visited on Sunday, and the tables were almost full. So the serving took a bit time but it was absolutely fine as they were kind and the foods were nice.
Shoubaneh hemmati★★☆☆☆
The food was good but we had to sit for half an hour just to get a glass of wine. An hour to get the food another half an hour to dessert.
Elina★★★☆☆
The starter was good. For dessert, I chose the one with peach and mascarpone. After a few bites, I couldn’t taste any mascarpone, so I asked the staff in case I had received the wrong dessert. They told me that the mascarpone was at the bottom, but even after finishing it, I still couldn’t taste it. The restaurant seemed quite busy but understaffed, so it took some time to get the staff’s attention. I was seated on the terrace, and because the waiting time was long, it felt quite cold by the end of the meal.

Fresh ingredients, delicious seafood, and the lamb was especially amazing. The owner is very warm and welcoming, and the whole restaurant has a great atmosphere. We stayed in Arles for two days and ended up having dinner here both nights.

This was easily the best restaurant meal of my life. I was blown away by every bite; the flavors were so rich and complex, yet derived from such simple ingredients that the experience was nothing short of exhilarating. To top it off, the service was so genuine and warm that I didn't want to leave. I would travel to Arles just for this place-an absolute gem!
Wes Spruill★★★★★
Amazing little cafe in Arles near the arena. We walked here from our river cruise ship and it was 1 km, so it's an easy walk. Highly recommend!
Audrey Chavez★★★★★
I had the bourride which was easily the most delicious thing I ate during a month in France. The only downside was that it was more than I could comfortably eat, so I had to pass on dessert.
Can Turgut★★★★★
Lovely restaurant with a real traditional province cuisine. The Good side is that there are not many options but the ones they are serving (depending on the season) are really authentic and good quality. I suggest the bulls meat (traditional to Arles). Reservation necessary before going.

My family and I traveled through a couple counties Europe. This was easily the best restaurant we’ve been to in all of Europe by a long shot. Without a doubt. Nothing else compared. I had their lamb tanjine and if I end up on death row this will be the last meal I eat.

An unexpected gem in the heart of Arles! "We stumbled upon this place by chance and it turned out to be the highlight of our trip. The atmosphere is warm and authentic, but the food is the real star. The couscous was incredibly light and fluffy, and the tajine was packed with deep, aromatic flavors. You can tell everything is homemade with love. It’s a wonderful break from the usual French bistro fare. A true hidden gem that I can’t recommend enough!"
C Houser★★★★★
This was a highlight meal of our trip. The bastille was so beautiful, I didn't want to cut into it. We also really appreciated the perfect service and close proximity to a parking lot. I could have happily stayed all day watching the world go by.

A gem. We were staying in Aix but returned here for couscous. It was, quite simply, the best we ever had - including Paris. Excellent mint tea. Friendly server. Now I want to go to Morocco!!

A very pleasant experience at La Pergula. The food was excellent, well prepared and full of flavor. The dishes were generous, tasty and nicely presented. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. A great place to enjoy a good meal, definitely recommended.

Excellent food and ambiance. I had an amazing salad with goat cheese and my husband had salmon. Everything was delicious. Their menu is full of wonderful choices. If we had stayed longer in Arles we would have returned.

Beautiful underrated restaurant. Everyone loved their food except me. My pesto pasta was too thick and hard to eat. I recommend using something thinner like spaghetti. The interiors are romantic.
DrJohn von Pi★★★☆☆
A nice restaurant with a hardworking staff, but unfortunately the food is mediocre. In the tapas the calamari’s had a very thick & not very tasty batter. The pasta with big shrimps & vongole had been drowned in a puddle of cream. Very disappointing.

Delicious meal and peaceful during our time. Even the dessert was heaven. I was full but that dessert deserve to be finished and enjoy. Love it. Its limits spaces so make your booking or try your luck on walk in.

Outstanding in every regard. Fabolous food, friendly attentive service, and lovely atmosphere. We each had 3 courses and every one was wonderful. Our appetizers, fish skewers, bull stew, desserts and wine all delicious. A real highlight meal during our trip to France. Highly recommend for a lovely evening in Arles!

Visited La Paillote for dinner and the food was simply amazing. I had the foie gras mit cuit as appetiser and it was rich and sweet. For main course I had the Gardianne de Taureu; this dish was incredible, full of flavors and the meat perfectly tender. This is by far one of the best dish I have ever had. I will be returning, and will have that dish again. We had a bottle of wine, 2 appetizers and main course, each got a dessert for 100€. Higjly recommended.

Must stop for lunch in Arles. Located close to the square, this family run bistro is charming with delicious food and lovely setting. The food was outstanding and well price. Highly recommend!

We have just arrived in Arles after spetime in Provence. This restaurant is a few door from our town house so we popped into try. What a fabulous dinner we had pork with a peppercorn sauce, potatoes and vegebles my husband had steak with vegetables, potatoes and jus. Such a lovely local restaurant to try we are coming back.

We had a lovely meal here, Ilan looked after us well and we thoroughly enjoyed our fish dishes. The star of the meal for me was the mascarpone and lemon mousse tart. The flavour was amazing! Thankyou!

Monica Alvarez Alvarez★☆☆☆☆
We were expecting a tapas dinner, but the experience was quite disappointing. The menu was set and seemed to consist almost exclusively of cold dishes and small portions of purées or sauces: olive cream, a hummus-like purée or lentils, a small piece of zucchini with goat cheese, etc. The only bites we liked were the falafel, although the portion was very small. Furthermore, one of the dishes included chicken livers, something that wasn't clearly indicated and which we didn't even get to try. Overall, we missed having more substantial food and a more varied and balanced menu. The biggest disappointment was the wine: we ordered a glass of red and were served a drink that was almost pink, with a slightly effervescent texture and a flavor more reminiscent of cider than red wine. All this for €6 a glass, a price we felt was excessive for what we received. This style of cooking may appeal to other people, but for us the value for money was not satisfactory
Leopold Bogdan Lukač★★★★★
Great food. It's a cool and cozy little place. The sandwiches tasted great and they gave us a salad. The waitress was friendly. The menus were only in french so it was difficult to figure out what kinds of sandwiches they had because the connection wasn't the best in the part of the restaurant where we were. All in all a great restaurant, would recommend.
Stefano Cristin★★★★★
Very good food: flavorful, but balanced in such a way that your stomach is as happy as your tongue, plus lovely service, at a more than fair price

Everything we tried (including the coffee and desert) was just amazing. The staff was really kind and quick and the restaurant was clean and beautiful. We chose eat inside because of the air conditioner, but they also have a nice terrace which we will try next time. Very nice place!

A very tiny and nice place in Arles ! This place was recommended to us and we really enjoyed out lunch under the shade ! The cooker and the waiter are very nice and welcoming! The food was absolutely delicious, simple but with lots of taste 🤩 I do recommend that place

Had the salade de terroire and was blown away - simple dish but so refined and tasty with a mustard vinaigrette. Home-made desserts also good. Place is a bit outside the main touristy paths in Arles, at a rather busy street.

Good stop if you’re going to Luma Arles. Full of locals. Our burgers were great. Good value and fast service

This place is nice, very close to Luma. We liked the food and the host is very nice.

Very good value, tasty plat du jour. Good service, comfortable air conditioned indoor space, and nice terrace outside. Convenient location for La Luma!

Wendy and I visited this restaurant on the 8th and the 11th of September during out stay in Arles. On both occasions the food and service were excellent. We sat outside in comfortable seating and were provided with a pleasant lemon mosquito repellent. Not the cheapest restaurant but the quality of the food and wine meant it was good value for money. We were well looked after by Mona who was very friendly and provided good recommendations. We would definitely visit again if in Arles.

What a lovely little restaurant! The service was excellent, and we appreciated having an English menu—perfect for non-French speakers like us. The portions were generous, and while the food overall was decent, we especially loved the soup of the day and the lasagne. The highlight, though, was the tiramisu—absolutely excellent! A great spot for a quick bite or simply to enjoy dessert and coffee. Would definitely recommend!
Mitchell Wilkes★★★★★
Absolutely delicious food at great prices. Arguably the best dinners we had in our nearly 3 weeks travelling throughout France. We ended up eating here two nights in a row. The two owners were a genuine pleasure to chat with throughout our two nights dining here. Highly recommend eating here if you plan to travel in and around Arles!

Beautiful and fresh! Crisp, luscious salads and lovely patio seating is a gorgeous first at a friendly place if you’re new to Arles!

Cute place. Nicely decorated. The chef is a humble person. Service was prompt and good. The place is worth the visit. Unlike many touristic resto, I'm sure one will enjoy their time and food here.

Such a charming little restaurant! The service was friendly, and having an English menu was a big plus for those of us who don’t speak French. The portions were generous, and while the food was good overall, the soup of the day and the lasagne stood out. The real star, though, was the tiramisu—absolutely delicious! It’s also conveniently located, with parking close by and not too far from the highway. Whether you’re looking for a quick meal or just a coffee and dessert, this place is worth a visit.

Fiduea was amazing, Cesar salad big and very tasty. Fair prices for this Quality and size of meals. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I will go again, maybe for dinner, I think they have a bigger card then.
Douglas Gillen★★★★★
We thoroughly enjoyed our two meals here. On the first visit we had the paella and moules, on the second we had the tapas, excellent ratatouille! The owner and staff are wonderful, the music great, and the vibe was relaxed. When the forward to having a meal here again on our next visit to Arles.
Sophie Lehner★☆☆☆☆
Waited 35 minutes for Moules Frittes. When they came it was nearly 1kg per person which was great but from the whole 1kg about 90% were totally overcooked and dry. So unfortunate, what a waste. When the waitress asked if everything was fine I told her that they were overcooked and she just smiled friendly. I think she did not understand….. Also there is men hanging out on the benches in front of the restaurant smoking not consuming or ordering anything which is very strange.
Edward Chung★★★☆☆
We ordered the paella Marisco and moules au Roquefort. The moules were cooked perfectly but the paella was too salty and slightly dry. The chips were also lacking in crunch.
XUEMEI LI★☆☆☆☆
This dining experience was quite disappointing. We felt that the staff treated Asian customers with noticeable indifference and largely ignored our needs. Throughout the meal, they were busy serving other tables, yet never attended to ours — it felt rather unfair. We asked for tap water at least three times, but it never arrived, while every other table had it. After two dishes were served, we still hadn’t received any forks, plates, or knives. It took a long time before two plates finally came, but still no forks — we ended up eating fries with our hands. Only after asking several more times did we finally get the cutlery. The fish was also undercooked, and when we mentioned it, there was no apology at all — just a cold “we’ll redo it” before the plate was taken away. Overall, the service lacked basic respect and attentiveness, which made the whole experience very disappointing.

This lovely restaurant deserves all the praise in these reviews! The location next to the colosseum is stunning, the service is utterly charming and the food is amazing., and the prices are great - no extra charges for the prime location. Our young waiter was really good at his job and had a real passion for the food and wine. We enjoyed it so much we went twice.

An unexpectedly exceptional lunch! We stopped in for a casual bite and were completely wowed. The salads were some of the best I’ve ever had—beautifully presented with fresh produce and edible flowers from their garden. The location is unbeatable, with views overlooking the Roman amphitheater, and the service was just as impressive—our waiter was warm, genuine, and incredibly accommodating. A true hidden gem made with heart in every detail. Highly recommend!

Amazing food after tiring day. The Buns Roll Gambas Cajun (prawns) for sharing...were really hard to share!! We loved it so much (including my wife) and happy to compare it to a Michelin star food.. both visual and taste. Coming tomorrow before we leave france again! Service very friendly and thoughtful. Well done
Yuchuan Liu★☆☆☆☆
You order a gin and tonic, and they serve it in a tiny glass with barely two sips in it. The €5.50 strawberry milkshake looked more like vomit than a milkshake. Maybe it was just one particular staff member—a man with dark curly hair and glasses. He handled our drinks and gave us these disappointing servings. When we pointed out that another table had a normal-sized gin and tonic, he suddenly replaced ours with a proper one. That makes it hard not to feel like we were being taken advantage of. Very disappointing experience.
Ross M.★★★★☆
A nice restaurant, in a very frequented « piazza » so it was very noisy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The service was quick. The food was good but not as we were used to. My rice was a little « glued » together and the tartare lacked a bit of flavor. The French fries were really good and please take a expresso because it’s really good.
Georgia Healey★★★★★
We had a great (humongous) lunch here and it was fantastic! The service was great and so was the atmosphere. We had the Parma pizza, octopus salad and beef burger, all dishes were equally delicious 🤤

Tips for Dining Out with Kids in Arles

Navigating the Provençal dining scene with children requires a slight shift in strategy compared to dining at home. The French approach to meals is slower and more structured, but with a little preparation, you can turn every meal into a highlight of your trip rather than a logistical hurdle. Below are practical strategies to ensure everyone leaves the table happy and full.

1. Book Ahead and Request a Terrace
Even if a restaurant looks quiet at 6:30 PM, it will fill up rapidly by 8:00 PM. Always call ahead or ask your hotel to book a table. Specifically request a spot on the terrace or near an open area. Not only does outdoor seating provide natural ventilation for hot summer nights, but the ambient noise of the square acts as a buffer for any loud chatter from your little ones.

2. Leverage the Plat du Jour
Look for the daily special, or plat du jour. This is usually the freshest, most affordable, and fastest item on the menu. French kitchens are designed to serve these dishes quickly, which is exactly what you need when your child is starting to get restless. It also introduces kids to real home-style Provençal cooking without the wait time of a la carte orders.

3. Embrace the "Menu Enfant" but Ask for Modifications
While many places offer a children’s menu, it often consists of steak haché (burger patty) and fries. If you want your child to try something local, don’t be afraid to ask for a half-portion of a main dish or a simple plate of plain pasta with butter. French servers are generally accommodating if you ask politely, especially if you explain it is for a child.

4. Time Your Visit with the French Schedule
Instead of fighting the late dinner hour, adapt to it. Give your kids a substantial afternoon snack (a goûter) around 4:30 PM. This buys you time to wait until the kitchens open at 7:30 PM without a hunger crisis. Alternatively, make lunch your big restaurant meal of the day, as lunch service tends to be more relaxed and less crowded than the evening rush.

5. Scout the Nearby Squares for Post-Meal Play
Arles is full of open plazas like Place du Forum and Place de la République. Before sitting down, note where the nearest fountain or open pedestrian zone is. This allows one parent to finish their coffee or pay the bill while the other takes the kids to burn off energy. Choosing a restaurant based on its proximity to a safe, open space can make the difference between a relaxing meal and a stressful one.

Dining in Arles is about savoring the moment, and that includes the moments shared with your children. By choosing the right establishment and adjusting your schedule slightly, you will find that the French dining culture is actually incredibly welcoming to families. The memories of sharing a wood-fired pizza or a creamy scoop of lavender ice cream under the Provençal sun are the ones your family will treasure long after the suitcases are unpacked.

Take your time, order a local rosé for the adults, and let the kids dip their bread in the olive oil. In Arles, the table is a place where generations come together, and your family is part of that beautiful tradition.
