Las Palmas de Gran Canaria moves to a rhythm entirely its own. While the island is famous for its beaches and volcanic landscapes, the capital has quietly cultivated a coffee culture that rivals mainland Spain. Here, the tradition of a slow morning espresso meets a new wave of specialty roasters who treat beans with scientific precision. The result is a city where your morning cup can be a quick shot of dark intensity at a standing bar or a carefully crafted pour-over served in a minimalist space overlooking the Atlantic.
What makes the coffee scene here so compelling is its connection to the local lifestyle. Gran Canaria’s historic trade routes have long brought a diverse range of beans to its ports, but today, the focus has shifted toward freshness and provenance. Many of the city’s best spots roast their own beans in-house or source them from small farms in Latin America and Africa, ensuring that every cup tells a story of origin, altitude, and careful processing. You no longer have to settle for a bitter, over-extracted café con leche unless you specifically want that nostalgic kick.
Navigating the neighborhoods of Las Palmas is part of the experience. From the cobbled lanes of Vegueta, where colonial architecture frames sun-drenched plazas, to the surf-friendly vibe of La Cicer near the beach, the city’s geography shapes its café culture. In the historic old town, you will find hidden patios where time slows down, while the portside districts buzz with laptop-friendly spaces and cold brew taps. Each area attracts a different kind of coffee lover, and the best shops reflect the character of their surroundings.
For the discerning visitor or the local looking to shake up their routine, the definition of a "best" coffee shop goes beyond the drink itself. It is about the atmosphere, the knowledge of the barista, the quality of the pastries, and the comfort of the seating. You might want a quiet corner to read a book, a communal table to meet other travelers, or simply a quick, high-quality espresso to fuel a day of exploring the dunes of Maspalomas or the streets of Triana.
The rise of specialty coffee in Las Palmas has also brought a stronger emphasis on sustainability and community. Many of the city’s top baristas are passionate educators, happy to explain the difference between a natural and a washed process or to recommend a bean based on your flavor preferences. This educational approach lowers the barrier for those new to specialty coffee, making the scene welcoming rather than intimidating. It is a city where you can learn as much as you sip.
Whether you are a digital nomad seeking reliable Wi-Fi and a flat white, or a purist hunting for a rare single-origin espresso, the capital of Gran Canaria delivers. The mild, year-round climate means that outdoor seating is almost always an option, and the pace of life encourages you to linger over that second cup. In a city that balances work and leisure so effortlessly, the coffee shop has become the unofficial living room of the neighborhood.
To help you navigate this vibrant scene, we have curated a list of the twelve best coffee shops in Las Palmas. These are the places that consistently deliver exceptional quality, memorable service, and a genuine sense of place. Each one offers something unique, ensuring that no matter where you find yourself in the city, a great cup is never far away.

We visited Cool Beans in Las Palmas Old Town and had a great experience. The ambience is superb, making it a lovely place to relax. GREAT place! Me and my friend stayed for a month to work in Gran Canaria, and had coffee here everyday. Everytime was a perfect cup of coffee, very consistent. The co-working space was also very nice to use. And the people are amazing, so sweet and attentive! Wish it was possible to give more stars 🌟

I found this place by chance while wandering through Las Palmas GC on my last day, and it instantly became one of my favourite spots in the city. The atmosphere is friendly, creative and genuinely cool, with welcoming people and great energy. The coworking space is a huge bonus, offering both quiet areas and a lovely shared terrace to work from. Add excellent coffee and a beautiful setting, and you have the perfect place to spend a productive day. This will definitely be my go-to workspace when I return to Las Palmas GC.

This place became our favorite spot during our stay. It has a best coffee I have ever tried and various options for brunch. I tried benedict eggs with avocado, croassant with chicken and avocado, salmon sandwich and all was so delicious. It also has matcha with different flavors and healthy smoothies.
It’s right next to the beach and the interior is so cute. Also the staff is so nice and friendly.
Don’t miss this place if you’re staying in Las Palmas!

Absolutely loved this coffee shop! The coffee was excellent, rich, and perfectly made, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff were genuinely friendly and provided fantastic service with a smile. It’s the perfect place to relax, near to the sea, . I’ll definitely be coming back and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for great coffee and breakfast and a lovely experience! Thanks to Fabian for his excellent costumer service!

The brand changed but the coffee and cakes are delicious as before, we were not disappointed. The change of franchise surprised us at first, but the space almost looks the same as before (comfy and delightful), as we remembered, which is important for us as we met here 🙂

Very nice service, perfect coffee, staff is always smiling and giving their best. Best place in Las Palmas

Amazing, modern coffe shop. They roast the coffe by themselves, its always fresh and tastes amazing.
The waiters are very polite, especially the guy with curly hair (working yesterday) and the one with a ponytail (working today). They both speak great English, if you have some questions regarding the coffe or other products they offer, they are happy to answer.
The atmosphere is very relaxing, the music amazing!
The only thing that might be changed is the place of the roasting coffe machine, it is very loud and takes the attention away.
All in all, amazing place. Thank you for your hospitality 😌🤍☀️ 🌊

A bit of a hidden gem, tucked away in a quiet, non commercial area, which actually makes it feel quite special.
The specialty coffees have complex, interesting flavors and are very well prepared. Prices are on the higher side, but the quality is there. The team was incredibly friendly and efficient too.
Definitely worth seeking out if you’re serious about coffee.

Wonderful place! While staying in Las Palmas for a few weeks it became my little oasis. Really good coffee and people working there are the sweetest! Super helpful and friendly, you feel very welcomed by them. Thank you so much for all the yummy coffee and cookies and wholesome chats to Anastasia and Monika!

This café is a lovely spot with strong WiFi, delicious food, and a friendly staff. It’s very laptop-friendly, with plenty of plugs available. On colder days, it can get a bit chilly inside, so bringing a jacket is a good idea—but they do have a couple of blankets if needed! 😌
It also has a great atmosphere—cozy, welcoming, and perfect for getting work done or just relaxing. The first time I was here, the staff was quite loud, which made it a bit hard to fully unwind. However, on my second visit, it was much quieter and more peaceful, making for an even better experience. Overall, it’s a fantastic café, and I highly recommend it! 🥰

Kafema in Las Palmas definitely deserves five stars! The coffee here is exceptional, with a rich, full flavor that’s hard to beat. La Bastardería is a nice and relaxed spot in Las Palmas, with a pleasant atmosphere and a well-designed interior. The staff was very friendly, welcoming, and always smiling, which made the experience even better.
Their specialty is stuffed cookies, available in a variety of flavors. The ones I tried were definitely tasty and indulgent. That said, they are extremely rich, very sweet, and quite heavy, making it difficult to finish more than one.
I like the concept, but I think the experience would benefit from slightly smaller portions and a lower price point. Overall, it's a fun place to visit if you're looking for a sweet treat.
Anna K★★★★★
A truly wonderful place, but I have to warn you about one thing — the cookies are extremely filling. If you’re visiting as a pair, start by ordering just one to share.
It’s a very cool business concept with a cosy, hipster vibe that makes the whole experience even better.
Egle Zioma★★★★★
A great place to get an excellent coffee, and I couldn't stress it more - the coffee is amazing there.
Various café type of meals are available and a large choice of pastries with very different fillings. And, of course, smoothies.
The interior and matching music are of a fun gangsta style. The staff is as friendly as they are stylish, too.

A treasure. Lovely design, books aligned on one side. Very warm atmosphere, and lovely cakes. I especially liked the cheesecake, both the traditional, and the pear & ricotta. Therest rooms are certainly better than my own, haha. Worth a visit, even if you don't have the urge. The food is decent, though not necessarily spectacular. I've already been there a few times. Each time I'm in the area, it's hard to resist going in. They haven't got many gluten-free options to offer.

This is my new favorite coffee shop. The cakes are out of this world, the coffee selection is great, and the staff seems as happy as me being surrounded by all of these books. Peaceful, beautiful coffee shop. Looking forward to return

The atmosphere inside is amazing, you can chill, relax and enjoy your coffee. Drinks and food are prepared in a very good looking way, but it's good not delicious. Still I recommend this place. What I am saying about good not delicious is only about food in our case it was brownie and rolls.

One of the best cakes I had during my time in Las Palmas. It was made with platano, and I was genuinely surprised by how good it was, full of flavor, moist, and incredibly satisfying.
The café has both indoor and outdoor seating and is located in a quiet area of the city, making it a great place to relax for a while. The service was excellent, and the prices felt fair for the quality. Definitely a place I’d recommend if you happen to be in the area.

It was a very good experience. I had this amazing toast with avocado cream, curated cheese and guayaba caviar (they make fruit caviar, definitely delicious!). Frape express coffee (decaf) with passion fruit cream. OMG, I can’t recommend this enough. Great space, great food, great service.

Beautiful and very tasty coffe, chocolate, food and the most beautiful part of this cafe - people who create it. With the heart & authenticity and their hard work. Calima is not just another cafe with outsourced products, it is not a place to milk money. It is a fullfilled dream of passionate people who created it.
Every single piece of chocolate is handmade crafted and has its own process of learning and failing, growing and coming to its perfection.
It is worth it.
Great job Katalina, Alex, Kira, Anastasia, Javiere and All People Who run this little chocolate factory of wonders.

This is a wonderful place for coffee lovers and foodies as they serve delicious coffee and incredible signature cocoa that is definitely worth trying. Their natural vegan chocolate is a separate piece of art with exclusive flavor combinations developed by them such as smoked tea, coconut, olive oil, and Himalayan pink salt. It is a very cozy spot with a great atmosphere and high-quality products, I highly recommend it to everyone.

Nice atmosphere and very relaxing. Not sure why it's full of stainless steel decor. With the exposed stone walls and large shutter doors, a lot could have been done to create a more cosy, comfortable and traditional feel. The male staff member is pleasant and friendly, the girl has her head up her you know what. Good coffee, but expensive. While pretentious, it's worth one visit.

I always order decaf Americano coffee at every coffee house that serves decaf.
I have traveled in Spain and Morocco for the last 30 days. While I love love love the pastries in this place, ( they have some vegan and some no sugar) the decaf Americano is the worst decaf Americano I have had in a very long time
So bad that I glanced up at the beans displayed in their two grinders. They seemed pale, dry and inconsistently colored.
I wondered why and where they bought such tasteless beans. Then I saw the roasting machine in the glass enclosed room at the back of the cafe.
I was quite surprised.
I am sorry they went through all that effort to produce such a mediocre cup of decaf.
To be fair, because I like the vibe here…
I waited and then tried my Americano again and again as it cooled… waiting for it to become better.
it didn’t 😕
Maybe their caffeinated coffee is better? But if you are a decaf drinker, I suggest you buy one of their great pastries and get your coffee elsewhere.
Dalia K★★★★★
They seriously make the best coffee in Gran Canaria! They certainly know how to make a good coffee. During our week-long holiday, we visited this place three times. I also bought the matcha they sell to make at home, which cost 30 euros, but it was definitely worth the price. This place is full of high-quality products.

Cuptural Coffee is a fantastic spot! We visited five times during our stay, and every visit was just as amazing as the last. The coffee is top-notch—whether you prefer a batch brew or a smooth cappuccino, you won’t be disappointed. They also have a great selection of snacks; we especially loved their cakes, the tuna sandwiches, and the one with Brie—delicious! The atmosphere is cozy, and the service is always friendly and welcoming. Cuptural Coffee quickly became our go-to place, and we can’t recommend it enough!

The café was close to my Air BnB and it immediately became my go to coffee place for the time I was staying in the city.
I liked the vibe of the café, the coffee itself was amazing and presented in such a caring and nice way (on a wooden tray together with a small glass of water, a cookie and a little card stating the coffee that was used) and of course: the super friendly and attentive baristas! One of them even remembered my order from the day before without me having to say anything. The price is super fair as well - overall a great experience and recommendation for anyone who appreciates a chill atmosphere and a good cup of coffee 🙂

They definitely had a lot of options and pastries with Nordic influence. As im from the region it wasn’t what I wanted to eat during my travels.
I ordered an Irish coffee and cheesecake.
The service was great. Very clean, nice cozy interior and kid-friendly.
The only drawback was that the cakes didn’t feel fresh but I’ll give them some brownie points as we did visit in Christmas Day.

Here’s an updated review:
"Disappointing Coffee Spot – Avoid at All Costs"
If you’re on Las Palmas and love espresso, don’t bother with this place. The so-called "espresso" tasted more like a watered-down Americano lungo made with cheap beans. It lacked the rich, bold flavor you’d expect and was a complete letdown.
What’s worse, they don’t even pour the coffee in front of you – everything happens backstage. It feels shady and unprofessional, leaving you to wonder how little care goes into the process.
With so many excellent coffee spots on the island, skip this one and save yourself the disappointment.

I have mixed feelings about the different food combinations you can find here.
I was really impressed at first by the kimchi avocado toast, which I would have never imagined being on the same plate and taste that good altogether and the coffee that was quite nice. Also their tart was very tasty. However, the next things I've tried from the menu were a bit of a hit & miss.
I also found the portions sizes were quite small and therefore, I would say the food is a bit pricey, especially if you ask for gluten free options for which you pay extra and it adds up.
By the way, the menu photos are not updated, there are more options you can try out, but I believe the prices are also different.

LUWAK is such a nice spot in Las Palmas. I had an amazing açaí bowl and one of the best coffees I’ve had in a while - Brazilian beans and seriously delicious.
What makes the place special though is the atmosphere. Super relaxed, positive energy all around, and you can feel that people actually care. Maru and Adam were incredibly kind, attentive, and welcoming without making it feel formal or forced.
Great coffee, great food, great people. I’ll definitely come back.
Tips for Enjoying the Coffee Scene in Las Palmas
Before you set out to explore these incredible establishments, it helps to understand a few local customs and practical tips that will enhance your experience. The coffee culture here is a blend of traditional Spanish habits and modern specialty trends, and knowing how to navigate both will save you time and ensure you get exactly the drink you are craving. From timing your visit to understanding the local lingo, these insights will help you drink like a local rather than a tourist.
1. Know the Difference Between Café Solo and Specialty Espresso
In a traditional Spanish bar, a "café solo" is a small, dark, often bitter shot made from robusta-heavy blends. In a specialty shop, the espresso will be brighter, fruitier, and made from 100% arabica beans. If you want the specialty version, ask for an "espresso" or "café de especialidad." Do not expect the same flavor profile at both types of venues.
2. Mind the Local Schedule
Las Palmas runs on a different clock. Many specialty coffee shops open earlier than traditional Spanish cafés, often by 8:00 or 9:00 AM, but they may close in the early afternoon or reopen after a siesta. Check the specific hours of your chosen café, especially on Sundays, when some smaller spots in residential neighborhoods remain closed.
3. Order Like a Local for Milk Drinks
If you prefer milk-based drinks, know the local terminology. A "café con leche" is equal parts coffee and milk, similar to a latte. A "cortado" is a shot of espresso cut with a small amount of steamed milk. If you want a larger, foamier drink like a cappuccino, order it by name at specialty shops, but be aware that traditional bars may serve it with more foam than you expect.
4. Bring Cash for Smaller Cafés
While most specialty coffee shops in Las Palmas accept credit cards and mobile payments, a few smaller or more traditional spots in Vegueta and Triana may have a minimum spend or prefer cash. Carrying a €10 or €20 note is a smart backup, especially if you plan to hop between several cafés in one morning.
5. Embrace the Outdoor Culture
Gran Canaria’s climate is famously mild, and many of the best coffee shops offer terraces or sidewalk seating. Do not rush your visit. Order a drink, take a seat outside, and watch the city go by. However, be mindful that prime outdoor tables fill quickly on weekends between 10:00 AM and noon, so arrive early if you want a sunny spot.
6. Ask About the Bean Origin
Baristas at the top specialty shops in Las Palmas are genuinely passionate about their craft. Do not hesitate to ask where the beans are from, how they were processed, or what flavor notes to expect. This is not considered rude; it is a sign of genuine interest. Many will happily offer a small sample or explain the difference between two single-origin options.
The coffee scene in Las Palmas is a reflection of the city itself: warm, diverse, and unpretentious. Whether you start your day with a perfectly pulled shot in a minimalist space or end it with a leisurely cortado on a shaded plaza, the experience is about more than caffeine. It is about connecting with a place that values quality without sacrificing the easygoing island spirit. Take your time, try a few different spots, and let the city’s coffee culture become a memorable part of your visit.
