Perpignan occupies a fascinating corner of southern France, where Catalan culture, Spanish influences, and French elegance meet under a reliably sunny sky. Often used as a gateway to the Costa Brava or the Pyrenees, this vibrant city rewards travelers who choose to stay a while. Its historic center, with its ochre facades and palm-fringed squares, feels both lived-in and cinematic.
Finding the right base here matters more than you might expect, especially if you are balancing a tight travel budget with a desire for authentic local flavor. The city is compact enough to explore on foot, but the quality of your neighborhood can shape your experience. Staying near the old town puts you close to the iconic Castillet and the bustling Place de la République, while staying near the train station offers convenience for regional day trips.
Budget travel in France does not have to mean compromising on character or comfort. Perpignan is home to a growing number of affordable hotels that range from sleek, modern conversions to family-run establishments with a distinctly Mediterranean warmth. Many of these properties offer excellent value, often including free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and breakfast options that showcase local produce.
Because Perpignan is not as overrun by mass tourism as nearby coastal resorts, its accommodation prices remain refreshingly reasonable. This means you can often secure a central room for far less than you would pay in Nice or Montpellier. The key is knowing which hotels deliver genuine quality without inflating their rates based on location alone.
Whether you are visiting for the vibrant markets, the nearby wine routes, or a stopover on a longer journey through Occitanie, a well-chosen cheap hotel can elevate your trip. The best options combine clean, comfortable rooms with a location that lets you step outside and immediately feel the pulse of the city. You should not have to sacrifice a good night’s sleep to stay on budget.
Below is a curated selection of the best cheap hotels in Perpignan, each chosen for its balance of price, location, and guest experience. These properties consistently receive positive feedback for their value, making them reliable choices for the savvy traveler.

the staff at reception are awesome people. extremely helpful and check in and everything went smooth.
the negative review is not about the people but about the place itself:
*you don't have a toilet/shower in your room, it's all shared. this is advertised as a HOTEL not a HOSTEL.
*the toilets are like those gas station toilets. there is NO tap or water. only paper. there is no disinfectant available. there is a bowl and paper. deal with it. there is not even soap. think about that.
*the showers are horrendous, in practicality. it's clean but really really impractical.
I would accept that if it was

Gruesome reviews for no reason.
I arrived and was welcomed nicely, however in just french, but I was able to manage with very rusty french.
Rooms are small and clean, although it took asking at the reception once for the door to open.
No info on the toilet or shower, I haven't used them yet.
Location is a bit far from the center, but a 30 minute walk is fine, especially when known beforehand.
Completely valid place for a night

Outside the hotel it was full of cigarettes. The first room they assigned me to was smelling of smoke a lot. I asked for a new one and they gave it to me immediately (the receptionist was very kind and polite).

We booked 2 double bedroom with private bathroom. It was different experience. Payed £70 with breakfast. You need to buy towel 2.50 euros. When you walk in the hotel it’s like prison. Mid of night outside my girls room two started flight badly and hotel called police and the arrested two men. Not good experience
Not good option in breakfast. £5 person breakfast and I paid 4 ppl breakfast in advance It’s non refundable. I recommend never buy breakfast in advance always check options in breakfast time if you like then buy it.

One has to call the receptionist by phone. Very small room but clean, as well as the communal bathroom. Drinking automat was working but drinks were warm due to malfunctioning cooling and one even has to pay for a cup of hot water to add to the coffee. Very difficult to find a place to eat on a Sunday night. It wasn't the worst but not the best either of the 3 hotels in the same price range we stayed in.

Really nice budget hotel located next to Mediterranean Sea in a nice and quiet location. Worth every cent and Yes the room has air con. Arrived late in the night 1st day after 1400 km trip so I found the automated reception so so convenient. Great Job Guys. Thank you so much.

This is our choice of budget price hotels in the Perpignan area. We always stay here to and from Spanish holidays. The reception staff are always friendly and the rooms although small are clean with ensuites. Parking is safe which is very important. We have already booked again for our next trip.

Booked last minute late at night to split up a long drive, exactly what’s advertised, cheap room close to the motorway with secure free parking, clean and pet friendly, the staff are the main reason for the 5 stars, Edwin and his colleague who we didn’t get the name of were both super friendly and helpful, Edwin also speaks perfect English, Spanish and French, he is overqualified and a true professional
Artur Bielski★★★★☆
Good and cheap place to stay overnight on the way. The rooms are tiny. The shower smelled awful but when we ran some water it was okay. We could hear cars pass on the nearby motorway.

Poor room acoustics so you hear sex, moaning and snoring, plumbing noises, toilets flushing. Very hot and air con not working, no way to secure the window in a locked position with the window open to let fresh air in. TV didn’t work. Tiny rooms and bathrooms making it difficult to move about. Matress OK, bedding OK. Better to pay a bit more for a better hotel somewhere else.

This is a rating for the Budget Ibis, not the standard Ibis next door. The rooms are very basic and small and way too expensive for what they are. The staff was nice, however.

We have very unfortunately had a bad experience in this hotel, and we wouldn’t place a negative review unless for the treatment received by the morning staff. We arrived 6 min late to the breakfast which in the budget part of the hotel is until 9:30. We were obviously not aware of the schedule (which we didn’t check unfortunately), and we were turned away from the breakfast in a very unwisely impolite manner by the staff.
I had a feeling this happens quite oftentimes and I would suggest customers are advised about the breakfast schedule upon arrival, rather than catching customers by the fact. We paid an extra 30€ for the breakfast inclusion in our booking and this is why we are especially disappointed. We were offered a coffee at the bar, and our daughter was given a croissant, and when I reached for a yogurt and took one they were already collected by the staff so I couldn’t get one for my husband.
Service quality is not being prioritised, basic hospitality and manners should not be determined by the budget versions.

The reception was not welcoming. The man just said see for yourself. The air conditioning didn't work. The breakfast service was unhygienic. Flies in food. There was no knife to cut the cheeses. Do I need to use my own one? No, no, no! Cockroaches in the yard. It's a short trip inside for them. We have stayed in several Ibis budget hotels, this one was catastrophic.

When we saw the room photos we didn't think that it would be that tight. This was one of the worse hotels we've been concerning the room size... and we've been to several budget b&b hotels. The hotels location was good, walking distance to the city center. Parking wise, the best option is Indigo Perpignan Catalone, 5 min walking and without the crazy prices/schedules from the one below this Ibis. Breakfast was ok. During the check-out morning several housekeeping maids entered our room after knocking only once... My wife was bathing my kid and off course they saw them... So, not cool privacy wise...

Stopped over for one night on drive back from Spain as our usual hotel had no vacancies .
Easy to find location with pizza restaurant 2 minutes walk away. So the rooms are quite small and the bathroom is tiny. WC, wash hand basin and shower really crammed in with door opening out onto the bed. Having said that, everything was clean and the bed very comfortable . The staff on duty were very pleasant and friendly. Breakfast was continental buffet style. Don't expect luxury but for a very reasonable price it was a great stopover for a night.

Okay for a one night stay but the room was very dated and small. The bed wasn’t so comfortable and the shower and toilet were very small.

They have a rather terrible customer service, in theory it is a “tourist hotel” and they do not speak any language other than French, at least they should English, and for this reason they do not explain anything to you, if anything they give you the room card and that's it.

Overall impression: good location.
But: You come here (among other things) to sleep. So what do you need? Bedding! It’s not fair that you have to pay extra for it (that information is buried deep in the Booking.com listing). It’s nice to arrive tired and be able to crawl straight into bed, instead of having to make up four beds. Moreover, the sheets are too narrow, so you still wake up next to your sheets on the mattress itself the next morning. Furthermore, the rooms need some maintenance: the shutters don’t close properly, there are no towel hooks in the bathroom, and the outlets are hard to reach and few in number. So, here are some tips to make your stay even more enjoyable. A big plus: the breakfast was delicious and very complete, served by a team of lovely family members!

I have spent one day in the Malibu Village with my family and have mixed thoughts about this place. The rooms and the territory are good for the listed prices, but service is not clear for me. As I arrived, I was informed where is my room and parking zone and deposite amount in case of any message. After checkout I was credited for cleaning that I supposed is included(I was not informed that I should clean the apartment, the sirvice tried ensure me in opposite). Moreover, they scattered chips, that we leaved on the kitchen, near bed rooms said I disrespected them. Then they accepted they are laying, but provided another statement as I disrespect them. So, in total, the rooms are good, the service is strange. I don't understand how the cleaning may be not included and the service itteravly lies to ensure the amount of compensation.
I would not recommend this place. If you selected this place, plase clarify all points of your accommodation.

We had a lovely time. The service at the front desk, the gentleman, was very nice and helpful! Great location so close to the amazing beach. Nice restaurant on site. What needs attention are the suites. Some of the doors inside did not close, including the bathroom, AC wasn’t working, landscaping needs work around the site. Otherwise wise it was nice to have a suite. Thank you!

I had a good time.. they took good care of me in the reception and they even helped me stay for another day, cause I didn't feel well for traveling. I haven't tried any of the facilities though. Remember soap or request some, because its non exciting in the room. Also remember to get towels or it will be extra 🙂 rooms are not soundproof, keep that in mind if you're having a "friend" over for some late night fun.

For the price, you can't ask for more. It was the middle of August, and it cost us €72 per night for two people and a baby. The hot water was great; it didn't run out, and the bed was quite comfortable.
It's perfect for spending a night before continuing your trip.

The hotel is nothing special. The rooms open directly onto the outside corridors (a plus for smokers). The bed is large, low, and a bit hard, but you sleep well. The bathroom is awful, like something you'd find in a camper van, but for a one-star hotel, you can't expect much more. There's plenty of parking and a small picnic area for lunch or dinner. It's very well located, 5 minutes from the Alcampo supermarket and 10 minutes from the city center. There are a few things that could be improved, but it's fine for a night or two.
Marvin Azzouz★☆☆☆☆
Horrible!
The rooms reeked of cigarettes, the bed was scorched by a cigarette, the sheets were dirty, and the receptionist was incredibly unpleasant when we took our reservation. She clearly didn't want to be there, and it showed. There was no light in the rooms, the shutters didn't open, and there was no way to air them out. We will never return.

Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing. The room was full of flies, which made it quite unpleasant. It was also very noisy. During the night, other guests made a lot of noise and woke us up around 2 a.m., making it difficult to get a good night’s sleep.
On the positive side, the staff were friendly and polite throughout our stay.

Good service at reception. Beds are comfortable. Nice shower. Only the rubber of the shower doors old and dirty. Breakfast is ok. Only tea you need to make water hot in the microwave. I had a good stay to rest and sleep here at B&B .
Noah van Schevikhoven★☆☆☆☆
AC in the room didn't work like it's meant to. It was too hot to sleep at the two beds upstairs. Seems like it's just too weak to reach the entire room. Included in our booking was breakfast, but when we went downstairs in the morning they said it was "not possible".
Why? Was not explained. They told us we could have breakfast at another B&B hotel 15 minutes from the one we stayed at, which we obviously didn't do. When we were standing at the breakfast buffet before we checked in by the reception, we could already see that it was bare bones, so we got our money back because having the breakfast we booked was not possible. Very disappointing.
The bathroom lever almost fell off when you pulled the door and the shower was way too small for an adult above 6'0" (180 cm) to fit in.
After response:
AC isn't excellent at all. Maybe this was just our room, but the AC was very bad.

Perfect place for stopover with your dog. Clean rooms and had a wet room shower so no climbing in a bath. Good for the disabled. We stop here 3 times a year on our way to Spainish home. It's a motel style hotel, rooms are quite small but good enough for a night sleep to break a long trip. The location is good as it's not far from the highway, and best of all there are a couple of very good backeries in the surroundings with excellent pastries and sandwiches.

Dog friendly, decent size of the room and quiet place. Felt that the location was good as well since we were close to the theatre where we were performing.

I normally never write reviews, and I have stayed in many hotels around the world for work, but this has been the first time I have ever experienced something like this.
I stayed in room 308, and from the first night I started getting red, itchy spots on my arms and legs. At first, I thought they were mosquito bites, but after a few days I was covered in them, many in lines like bed bugs
I asked reception for another room and was moved to one on the first floor. The very first thing I saw when I entered was a brown stain on the wall, which made me feel uncomfortable, so I immediately went back and asked for another room. They then gave me a room close to my original one. I slept there wearing different clothes and without bringing any belongings, but the next morning I woke up with even more bites.
I inspected the bed and mattress seams and found what appeared to be bed bugs. When lifting the bedsheet, I also found a plastic spoon inside the bed, which made me question the cleaning standards.
I checked the mattress of the first room again and found more bugs. The reception staff saw them as well.
In general, I noticed several cleaning issues during my stay. After housekeeping, I often found items on the floor, including my personal brush, which made me feel like the room was not properly cleaned and handled with care.
Eventually, I had to change hotels, lose working time, throw away clothes, and deal with discomfort and sleepless nights and medical treatments. This was extremely stressful and disgusting and I was disappointed by the situation.
C. M.★☆☆☆☆
Not clean. On the first day I found some hair in the shower and stains on the shower curtain. The room was not cleaned every day, the towels were not replaced, or when they took them away they did not bring new ones, and the toilet paper was never restocked.
Reception is only open a few hours during the day, there is nobody at night and you need a code to enter the building.
Early evening I smelt smoke from the room, went to check the corridor, which was filled with smoke and found 2 fire fighters banging on doors and asking people to leave rooms. There was no fire alarm at all, either on our floor (3rd) or the others coming down, and a barely audible beep on the ground floor. Reception was closed and no one was there to give instructions or provide information. The fire fighters said there was an unknown source of fire possibly in the elevator shafts and said it was highly problematic that the alarms did not function. They left and came back a few times as they could not identify the source of the smoke. Hours later when the hotel manager finally came, there were no signs telling customers to not use the lifts, no information about safety and security, the manager lied to us saying there was no fire in the first place, and when told we did not hear the fire alarm she said it only works on the bottom floor and was adamant that it was normal for fire alarms in upper floors to not signal (despite clear presence of smoke in the corridors). The hotel smelled very strongly of smoke until the next day.

Very very bad journey over there, we had to stay for a week but we only slept there one night because the day of our check-in we had no electricity from 10p.m until the next morning at 8a.m. All the fresh food that we’ve bought damaged. The water and the pressure of the water is very week. The TV switches off after 5-10mn… And the staff is not commercial at all and told us “to leave if we are not happy. How can a big hôtel, well situated have so many problems.

Terrific moment with my daughter and my dog, thanks to the comment I should of read before Bookîng and going over there.
All what you people wrote as:

All theses made us leave the next day after loosing all our fresh food bought a few hours before we arrive. No explanation from the manager, only proposed me to leave if I am not happy and that’s what happened.
Only good news he refunded the fees.

Fine. Usual basic amenities. Handy for the motorway/airport/hypermarket/mdonalds but a long way out of town. The desk lady when we got there ONLY SPOKE French and smiled patiently at our halting attempts to communicate (this is not a criticism, just an amusing observation). There is a small amount of local tax to pay on arrival. The rooms have very odd 'space age' toilet and shower pods, and the sink is in the room.

We stayed for 3 nights and every member of staff we interacted with was friendly and welcoming. Dogs allowed with an extra fee. The rooms are small and there isn't really a separate toilet/shower room as such, so you do end up with wet floors after a shower. AC worked perfectly. Car park secure and plenty of space for bigger vehicles.

It's the perfect place for a stop over if you are heading for Spain. The hotel's location is super convenient right off the motorway. The rooms are clean and - for French standards - quite large. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Breakfast is also fine.

The hotel is quite basic. Good if you are not going to use the facilities much or if it is a passing hotel. It was what we were looking for. To see the city you will need a vehicle. I didn't see any transportation options nearby. Just the right size for two adults and one child. The shower and bathroom are different but practical. They are similar to those in a caravan. Nice staff. Free parking on premises. Very good breakfast despite not having too many options. Very good comunicated

Very practical and comfortable hotel with an excellent central location directly next to the train station, which was extremely helpful during my urgent trip from Barcelona to Perpignan last year.
For French standards in this category, the hotel was surprisingly clean and well maintained. The room was clean, cozy and absolutely sufficient in size. Everything needed for a short or medium stay was available and worked properly.
The location is one of the biggest advantages — very central, easy to reach and perfect for travelers arriving by train or exploring the city. Despite being close to the station, the overall stay was comfortable and convenient.
The 3-star classification is absolutely fair and justified for this type of hotel, which is why I give solid 4 stars overall for the good price-performance ratio, cleanliness and practicality.
Recommended for travelers looking for a clean, simple and well-located hotel in Perpignan.

Best value for money ever! We arrived around 23.00 at the bus station so it was great that the hotel was right around the corner. Super clean and comfortable apartment with a great kingsize bed. Windows that could open wide for fresh air. Good shower temperature and water pressure. Airconditioning was turned off this time of year (late October) which is understandable but it was a bit warm, so we asked the reception for a fan and they brought one to the room within a couple minutes. Free and secure luggage storage after checkout. Highly recommended!

Practical Tips for Booking Cheap Hotels in Perpignan
Smart planning can make an already affordable stay even better, especially in a city where seasonal events and local rhythms influence pricing. Whether you are visiting for the Visa pour l’Image photojournalism festival or simply passing through, a few strategic choices will help you secure the best possible room. These tips focus on maximizing value without sacrificing the comfort or character that makes Perpignan special.
Book slightly outside peak festival dates. Perpignan’s calendar includes several cultural events that cause hotel prices to spike, particularly in late summer and early autumn. If your dates are flexible, check the local events calendar before booking. Traveling a week before or after a major festival can often save you 20–30% on the same room.
Look for hotels that include breakfast. Many budget properties in Perpignan offer a simple continental breakfast for a small supplement, but some include it in the room rate. A free or discounted breakfast of fresh bread, local honey, and coffee can save you a surprising amount over a multi-day stay. Compare the total cost of room plus breakfast, not just the headline nightly rate.
Use the train station area strategically. Hotels near Gare de Perpignan are often cheaper than those in the medieval center, yet the old town is only a 10-minute walk away. This is an excellent option if you plan day trips to Collioure, Narbonne, or even Barcelona. You get lower prices and unbeatable connectivity without feeling isolated from the city’s main sights.
Check for parking before you book. If you are driving through Occitanie, parking in central Perpignan can be expensive and confusing. Some cheap hotels offer free or discounted private parking, which can easily save you €10–15 per day. Always confirm whether the parking is on-site, secure, and included in the advertised rate.
Ask for a room facing the courtyard. Many budget hotels in Perpignan occupy older buildings on lively streets, and street-facing rooms can be noisy at night, especially on weekends. Requesting a quiet interior room costs nothing and can dramatically improve your sleep quality. This is one of the simplest ways to make a cheap hotel feel far more comfortable than its price suggests.
Consider a hotel with a kitchenette or shared kitchen. Several affordable options in Perpignan include basic self-catering facilities, which can be a game-changer for longer stays. Being able to prepare a simple meal with ingredients from the nearby market reduces your overall travel costs. It also gives you a chance to experience local produce in a more personal way.
Perpignan rewards travelers who take the time to look beyond the surface, and the same is true of its accommodation. A cheap hotel here can still offer a warm welcome, a prime location, and the kind of small details that make a trip memorable. The city’s blend of French and Catalan culture extends into its hospitality, where genuine service often outweighs luxury finishes.
Ultimately, the best stay is one that leaves you with more energy and money to spend on what matters: lingering over a coffee on a sunny square, wandering through the Palace of the Kings of Majorca, or sampling a glass of Banyuls as the evening cools. With the right room as your base, Perpignan feels less like a stopover and more like a destination in its own right.
