12 Best Cheap Hotels in Cannes

Finding a place to stay in Cannes often feels like a choice between a five-star palace on La Croisette and a cramped room far from the action. The city is synonymous with luxury, film stars, and superyachts, but that doesn’t mean your trip has to drain your bank account. Whether you are passing through on a backpacking trip along the Côte d’Azur or attending a conference at the Palais des Festivals, there are hidden gems that offer comfort without the exorbitant price tag.

The key to finding affordable accommodation here is understanding the geography of the city. While the famous Boulevard de la Croisette commands premium rates, neighborhoods like La Bocca, Le Cannet, and the area around the SNCF train station offer significantly better value. Staying slightly outside the immediate center doesn’t mean missing out; Cannes has an efficient public bus network that connects these budget-friendly districts to the beach and old town within minutes.

Travel timing is also crucial for budget travelers. During the Cannes Film Festival in May or major trade fairs like MIPIM and Cannes Lions, even the most basic hotel rooms can triple in price. However, if you visit during the shoulder seasons—spring and autumn—or even the sunny winter months, you can secure excellent rates while still enjoying pleasant Mediterranean weather.

Many travelers assume that "cheap" means sacrificing cleanliness or safety, but that is rarely the case in France. The budget hotels listed below are subject to strict European hospitality standards. You can expect clean linens, private bathrooms, and reliable Wi-Fi, even if the square footage is modest or the decor is simple.

The secret to enjoying Cannes on a budget is spending your money on experiences rather than a place to sleep. Since the French Riviera lifestyle is lived outdoors, you will likely only use your room for showering and sleeping. By choosing an affordable hotel, you free up your budget for fresh seafood in the Suquet district, a ferry ride to the Îles de Lérins, or a glass of rosé at a beachside café.

To help you plan your trip, we have compiled a list of the 12 best cheap hotels in Cannes that offer exceptional value for money, prioritizing locations with easy transport access and consistent guest reviews for cleanliness and service.

Not like the pictures. I wouldn't stay here. We walked in and decided to leave due to it being nothing like shown. The receptionist didn't even question after we mentioned the reviews. They charged an extra deposit to actually stay once arriving. Don't recommend.

If I could give this hotel a negative star rating , I would !! This hotel is absolutely terrible. Let’s talk about why! 1. When I arrived the receptionist was no where to be found( first hotel I have ever experienced this with). 2. In their description, it says that they had baby cribs/beds available which were all lies. 3. I walked into my room and the television was no where to be found . When I went to the front desk and told them that the TV was missing, the guy in the front desk assumed that it might’ve been stolen so they had ME go a grab another TV from another room. RED FLAG!!🚩 4. The AC was inoperable and it was so freaking hot. 5. BED BUGS! BED BUGS!! BED BUGS!! STAY AWAY!! Me and my family didn’t even stay the days we reserved for. We had to evacuate promptly! The Health and safety department in the area needs to conduct a thorough inspection of this hotel and shut them down immediately!!!! I would not recommend to stay there traveling Solo yet alone with a family . STAY AWAY!!

Overall good experience for the price paid. The building is pretty sketchy, even a bit scary I’d say, and the reception is opened only at certain hours. Besides this, the room was very clean and silent, with a nice balcony. It is close to a TER station and to bus stops that brings you to Cannes and other cities.

WARNING: this place was infested with bed bugs. I would not consider if I knew the real situation . Please don't look at the listed pictures because this place was nothing like it. If there was a negative, I would give this place as it would earn the lowest rating. At first, the area seemed shady with people hanging out in front. When entered, the building felt "ghetto". The apartment seemed unkept but ok at first however , the 3rd bed was in a closet with no air flow. No air conditioning, no fan in August was quite bad even when the sliding door was opened but definitely unbearable in the closet. After 2 hours in bed, in the dark, I felt pinching but around 3 o'clock I decided to turn on the light and the beds were covered with bedbugs in hundreds and hundreds. I took off clothes and put them in the microwave, took a quick shower and left. Drove around to a " better" area while searching for a laundromat . First threw out all clothes I wore in bed. Then I washed all in 60 degrees and dried all in high heat. I had to cancel all plans for Sunday and Monday. During extreme distress, I called the number listed. The guy on the phone was not only useless he also spoke little english and offered... nothing. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. Google helped me getting through it because this was the 1st time I even saw or encountered this. Please don't give them more business because this " hotel" should be shut down!!!! Or be inspected to meet the lowest standard of a " hotel". They did not refund my money for that night and I was going to make another claim for the lost clothes that I put in the microwave to eliminate the bugs. Here is the video that I was rushing to do because I did not want to spend an extra second in this dump. Believe me, it was 100 % worse in reality.

Would give 0 if possible. Almost stayed there this summer, but was able to unbook after a horrible interaction with the receptionist. He was rude, cursing in french and complaining about "tourists always asking the same questions". A receptionist answering questions. The insanity. He asked us to give him a 200 (!) Euro deposit for our stay, which we wouldn't be able to get back in cash since we were going to leave before reception hours, instead having to trust this weird frenchman to send it electronically. No way 😹 👎 👎 On top of this the form we were supposed to sign was stapled on top of another guest's paperwork, from several months ago 🥸 ✌️✌️

The room is adequate, and the location is fantastic being right next to the train station, and an easy walk to the waterfront. There are some great low cost restaurants right by the hotel. The room itself has limited space for storage and moving around, but it was fine for four days. The air conditioning works well, though the sound proofing could be better.

We loved our stay very much , it was during the world cup so the matches was available to see at the room , very near to everything , breakfast was great We will come again sure ❤️

Stayed here for 4 night. Never disappoints. Do note that the room doesn’t have a fridge, tooth brush, and proper shampoo (only body gel) . Despite that, it’s an excellent hotel with kind staff.

I spend there 2 nights with my friend. After first night in the morning I found something bite me many times, next day also. They said they will checked the room and didnt find anything. The is huge risk of bed bugs in this hotel. Room 404

Very friendly, welcoming and available staff. Amedeo went the extra mile to help My room was very small and essential. Breakfast could have more varied choices but it’s priced at 8 € so at a reasonable price/quality ratio

well, the location is very central, the room was nicely clean and tidy. however, keep in mind that if you’re sharing the bathroom with other people, they may not be really clean or respectful. i wouldn’t say this is the fault of the hotel, but yeah, keep that in mind. the front desk is quite helpful and nice. if you’re looking for a place to sleep for the night, yeah, this is it. nothing more though.

Great stay at Chanteclair with friendly host Pascal. The location is perfect. We loved breakfast in the peaceful courtyard. Yes, it’s a basic hotel, but it’s clean and excellent value for the centre of Cannes. Thanks Pascal (and Adam!)

Within a walking distance from the train station (which is the best feature really, also the price is ok). Had a room with shower, was wondering if the shower has been cleaned before as it had many stains. Got also a very dusty fan which I didn’t dare to use. It’s not a quiet neighbor hood. You’ll hear the pretentious ppl outside with their fast cars all night. Also some ppl were screaming bad words at each other on the street and other guests didn’t bother to keep it quiet. Not the fault of the hotel though. Was ok for one night. Staff is also friendly.
Helene Verges★★★★★
The friendliest and most welcoming hotel staff i’ve ever experienced! Super beautiful front garden and breakfast area, absolutely perfect place for a hotel, not too loud and close to everything nice in Cannes. The rooms aren’t luxurious but super pretty and more than great for the price. And there’s also a super friendly and cute dog who welcomes everyone. ❤️❤️❤️ Also very familiar atmosphere and no stress at all.
Julia _★★★★☆
good value for price. The owner of the hotel is the sweetest and welcomed us warmly. The hotel itself is located in a calm side street and has a lovely terrasse/outdoorspace. The location is perfect, in 1 minute you are in between a lot of restaurants, in 9 minutes you are at a sand beach. The breakfast is really good for 9€ pP. It includes french breakfast (baguette, croissants, marmelade, butter, coffee, orange juice, water). It is being served by the owner and you can eat outside. The rooms themselves are tiny and the bed is not the best. There is no A/C - only a fan.

We stayed at ResidHotel Villa Maupassant and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. The apartment did not match the photos shown online at all. The accommodation was old, poorly maintained, and not properly cleaned. Considering the total price we paid (1149.40 EUR), the quality was completely unacceptable. What was even worse was the way management handled the situation. While we were still in France, we tried to speak with the manager in person after the first night. We were told she would arrive at 3 PM, but she never showed up and did not answer calls from her own staff. After returning home, we repeatedly contacted the property and attempted to resolve the issue respectfully. Our complaint was essentially ignored. We only received repetitive copied responses offering a 120 EUR voucher instead of any serious attempt to address the situation. We also contacted consumer protection services because the accommodation clearly did not correspond to the advertisement presented online. Very disappointing experience overall. I would strongly advise future guests to carefully reconsider before booking this property.
Mehroz Mahjabin★★★★★
I had a great time over here. I had a seaview apartment with kitchen, living room and separate bedroom. Although it was tad away from downtown, bus no 2 and 1 and 22 was available throughout the day and it took approximately 5-10 min to get to downtown by the port. While I was in Cannes 6 days I stayed here 3 days and stayed downtown 3 days. If I could go back and stay here all of 6 days I would have and if I ever go back to Cannes this likely where I will stay. There’s also few restaurants across the street. Not to mention the view is breathtaking from the apartment balcony. The apartment is very spacious. I highly recommend. Cons: free wifi in the apartment was pretty none existent, I was barely ever connected. The reception is only open during specific hours so there could be long wait. I waited almost 2 hrs before reception opened and I was able to get keys however the girl was lovely and very nice.
Oliwia Pondel★☆☆☆☆
This hotel is the most discusting place I have ever stayed in, firstly who ever is cleaning this place should get fired because the rooms were vile, secondly the photos of the hotel are extremely inaccurate and false if I knew that it looked like that I would have never stepped food inside, first of all check in is super late at 4pm, the room wasn’t cleaned trash wasn’t taken out, floors weren’t cleaned the sheets in the bed smelled, there was no aircon, the light switches didn’t turn on in the bedrooms, the front door was brown and was dragging on the floor when opening and closing it, the bathroom floor was disgusting i had to have shoes on when walking around the apartment, there was mould in the bathroom and a draw fell out as we went inside the bathroom, the bath floor was dirty, stained and tiles all around the apartment were cracked. When I asked the lady in reception to switch rooms and told her everything she firstly wasn’t chocked or sorry she said that all the rooms look like that and that she knows the state of the room and that nothing can be done about that. Honestly please go somewhere else this isn’t a place anyone should spend their money on staying and supporting.
Bharat Bajaj★☆☆☆☆
I will take some time to write even more detailed review for this place, but for now: it was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING stay for us. Inconvenience: Highly poor customer service and lack of professional communication, limited reception hours, no response on calling them. 3 hours before checkin they sent and email to make payment online otherwise they would not share the check-in details. Then I called them at least 20 times(during reception hours) but no one picked the call. I already used my credit card for booking, but they asked me to come to reception between 15:00 to 19:00 to pay for the room, instead of charging my credit card. They made me come back to hotel just to pay deposit and pay for rooms, disturbing my holiday itinerary in cannes. They made us panic at the last minute before checkin-in. VERY VERY FRUSTRATING Accommodation: Pathetic, old, disgusting bathrooms and toilets, no maintenance at all, the sofa bed was so old that one of the plank came out and my child almost sank into the sofa bed and hurt the elbow. Toilet flush tank had no lid on that which was disgusting beyond imagination (see photo) and the water was dripping continuously. Bath tub and sink drains were clogged and water was draining very slowly. They should remove the word “Hotel” from this listing. Even a private B&B would probably provide better accommodation. STAY AWAY..!!! To the owners of this property: Spend some money and make those apartments worth living.
Aidan Sutherland★☆☆☆☆
My god, the absolute worst — and I mean worst — hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Customer service is woeful (for context, there is one receptionist who huffs, sighs and moans whenever you ask for something). The check-in process requires picking up keys left outside for you, which if you book with a Third Party (i.e Navan) they will not share with you. The room was… filthy. Genuinely hadn’t been cleaned in what I assume was weeks. Brown water in the shower. Bugs all over the floor. Please, I am begging you, do not stay here.

Very disappointing experience. I was charged €50 for a lost room key without any clear justification for the amount. When I asked for an official invoice with VAT details, I was not provided one and instead received only a simple piece of paper stating that payment had been made. For a hotel, this level of professionalism is unacceptable. I repeatedly asked for proper documentation and transparency regarding the charge, but my concerns were not addressed. Guests should receive official invoices for payments made, especially when being charged additional fees. The handling of this situation left me feeling misled and treated unfairly. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who expects transparency, proper customer service, and clear billing practices.

This hotel is conveniently placed not far from the beach and the harbour. Our room was smallish but spotlessly clean and well air-conditioned, which was important as we arrived in extreme heat. As others have said, the staff are lovely. The breakfast in the café downstairs was absolutely fine. For the price, this was exceptional value for a hotel in central Cannes.
V. D.★★☆☆☆
Lovely staff, well done for their attitude. Excellent location. It's not soundproof and you should definitely stop showing it on the menu because it's a big lie. Looks like a scam. My booking mentioned soundproof, it is definitely not. I should ask for a refund money if the staff weren't so nice.
Omar T★☆☆☆☆
One of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in Cannes. The location is amazing, but the room was horrible, the bed lopsided and the window is overlooking the exhaust of the restaurant so the smell is horrible. The housekeeping didn’t change the sheets for the 4 days I’ve been there. The curtains have stains all over them. In short a poorly maintained hotel.
Binh Nguyen★★★★★
The receptionist is exceptional, she is very helpful and cheerful with us all the time. The room is normal-size, but very clean and comfortable bed. I would recommend this place for anyone, the price is very good, and they offer breakfast service too!

Thanks to the wonderful receptionist. The hotel exceeded my expectations with its great location, no need for a car. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and well-equipped. The elevator is very small, but that’s not a big issue for me. I’ll definitely return.
Lori★★★★☆
Overall we had a good experience. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were kind and helpful. The location is outstanding. The beds were comfortable, with enough pillows. The only two down sides were that the soundproofing was not enough to suppress sound from the neighboring hotel or hallway. Our room was on the 4th floor, which meant that we had no sounds from above but did have to walk up the circular staircase.
David★☆☆☆☆
To anyone who wants to book this hotel, let me save you both time and money. They post inaccurate photos on booking.com trying to make you think that they're an ok hotel. Turns out they're not. The locks on the doors don't work and they will literally not care and create excuses if you go complain, they don't even offer to fix it. Claustrophobes avoid this hotel at all costs. Elevator and room are tiny, plus there's only one tiny window very high up in some of the rooms.
Elizabeth Hotz★★★★☆
Fantastic location in the center:.. unfortunately no private parking. Friendly staff that speaks many languages. Nice entrance. The room rate was different from what was on the internet website. But unbeatable price for the location..in august. Just over €100 on a Friday night. The room was a nice size … comfortable bed and clean with air conditioning …but king size bed united with two mattresses that kept opening during the night. Unfortunately they still have carpet in the Floors. The bathroom had pats of silicone that went away… made it look not clean Unfortunately we had a neighbor that stared smoking pot at 5pm till the morning. But location location location is what counts!
jamavo★★★★☆
The room was very small, but functional. The room was generally clean, but the bathroom had some hairs in the shower from the previous visitors. The airconditioning worked well, and there was also a window that could be opened. The bed was fine, and there was a complementary bottle of water in the room. The staff spoke English, and was friendly enough. The only drawback was the elevator, which was too small for 2 people, and broke down soon after we used it!

Great location close to the Promenade and plenty of shops and restaurants. The room was very clean and fresh, with a comfortable bed and strong shower pressure. Wi-Fi was excellent and reliable, and the included small breakfast was a nice touch. It was also quiet at night with no street noise, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only drawback was the bathroom door, which slid open on its own and could fit a bit better, so the facilities lose a point there. Overall though, it’s good value for money and I’d happily stay again.
Emilio Javier Sordo Téllez★★★★★
They offer two options: hotel rooms and apartments. I strongly recommend choosing the hotel. The apartments tend to be noisy and cigarette smoke can get in. The location is unbeatable for the price-quality ratio. The hotel rooms are simple but include all essentials, including air conditioning.
Natalia Aschmutat-Thürsam★★★★★
Exceptional! Off-season stay, very comfortable, affordable, and unbeatable location in the heart of Cannes. We were three adults and two dogs in two cosy apartments. Lovely French breakfast, extremely friendly staff, and a convenient parking spot just two minutes away. We did hear children from a nearby kindergarten, but it added to the charm and gave our stay a wonderfully authentic feel. Highly recommended!
Jack Butler★★★☆☆
So to premise this review, the location (to an extent), the service, and the price we paid were all very good. We stayed in one of the self catering rooms, which are a little way down the street of the actual hotel. However, we were never informed about the level of noise we were to experience. We stayed Thursday to Monday, so the first two nights were at a decent sound level, but by God when Saturday came around we were literally sleeping in a nightclub. The resteraunt, or more so a club, below us would blare the music so loud our room would vibrate. They did not turn off the music until 2am, which is fine if that’s when you wish to fall asleep. The hallway also echoes, and the fridge would make intermittent clicks. All of this combined leads you to have a great slumber (not). The facilities were also not great. The shower is in some serious need of maintenance, and so is the bathroom door handle, which would fall out of its socket leaving you potentially locked in. The kitchen sink handle also needs to be maintained. FYI there is also no oven or a lift in the building. All in all, the location (in the city), service, and price we paid are the only pros which is what leaves me to give 3 stars. Those 3 stars are generous.

The hotel handled an unexpected issue efficiently - there were bed bugs in one room, which appeared to be an isolated case, and a room change was arranged promptly. A more empathetic tone at the front desk, particularly from Elodie, would have made a difference.

Will not stay there again. Car park lift not working. Had to carry suitcases 4 flights of stairs. Toilet and shower are separate with no sink in the toilet area. We are not in the Victorian times anymore! Room too small. I had a twin room. Hardly any area around the beds to walk properly. Feet of the bed were almost up against the wall and there was a wall mounted TV! So you had to twist your body to go round things
Nicolas★★★☆☆
You get what you pay for - small, but functional room, small selection of breakfast options such as croissant, toasts, waffles with spreads, butter and cream cheese, yogurt, milk, cereals and ham. There are also fruit juices out of a machine (concentrate). Good for a stay for a night or two. The reception is at the ibis Budget during the day and shared with the adjacent ibis Styles at night, which worked really well. If travelling with small children, not having a fridge in the room is an issue. But upon request, milk can be left at the reception in their fridge. Unfortunately, we were allocated a bunk bedroom, which was not ideal for two adults and one kid. I would stay again if cost and location matters and it's only for a short stay. Good parking facilities.
Amanda Bakken★☆☆☆☆
The guy in the lobby were extremely rude. He said our room number out loud if front of other guests, as we were two girls traveling alone we asked if it was possible to get another room. The answer we received was that he did nothing wrong. He then slammed a door in our face and talked to us in a very loud manner. There were also old hairs on the walls and in the ceiling of the shower. Do not stay here if you want a pleasant stay in Cannes.

We stayed for 1 night with friends and had a good experience. The staff were very friendly the rooms clean and the beds very comfortable. At the price was very good value for money in Cannes. We spent two nights here, the room was very clean and spacious enough. The hotel staff was outstandingly friendly and helpful. We left our car in their underground parking during our stay and were able to leave it at no extra charge for a few hours even after check-out which was highly appreciated. It’s located close to the city center, there are a few shops aroundy. Perfect for a short stay to explore Cannes.

Hotel L’Hotera was easily my favorite hotel during my recent trip to France. The location could not have been better: right near the Cannes train station and within easy walking distance of La Croisette, the beach, restaurants, shops, and everything else you would want to explore. The room was comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully equipped with everything needed for a great stay. The air conditioning was especially excellent, which made a huge difference during the summer heat. The staff were consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I genuinely cannot say enough good things about this hotel. It offered the perfect combination of comfort, convenience, and hospitality, and I would happily stay here again the next time I visit Cannes. Highly recommended!

This hotel so beautiful, so clean, so quiet. Outstanding service. Silvio, Marco, Jess and Cadeeja are wonderful hosts; very caring and very accommodating. Our experience is wonderful, and we’re considering extending our stay here. The kitchenette is the cream on the top of the cake. The WiFi is impeccable! Glitch-free!!! The hotel is located within very short walking distances from everything and every place a Cannes visitor might be interested in. A two stars hotel that deserves way more than that!!

Really loved staying here - yes, I did have my qualms given that the toilet paper provided was unchanged from previous patrons which was rather distasteful. And there was no kettle in the room or bottles of water. However, the staff more than made up for any shortcomings. The receptionist was incredibly kind and he took his time to answer all my questions - even checking to see if the lovely breakfast options had egg or not. The lady cleaning my room also did a wonderful job! For a three star hotel, I think it was great - apart from the above mentioned issues, mainly due to the kindness and loveliness of the staff.

Perfect for Cannes Film Festival. Very close to the Cineum multiplex and the shuttle bus into town. The rooms are clean and well serviced and the price is always good. Claire at reception is incredibly helpful and hospitable.

I stayed 5 days. Day1:- no one cleaned my room. Day2:- I had to remind them. Day3:- no cleaning again, upon asking they said you didn’t book the room with cleaning services later upon checking they accepted. I booked their top room but this was nonsense. Breakfast is very Basic. Parking is good and safe specially foreigners like myself

Hotel is very clean, staff is very friendly. It is about 20 min to get to the festival site and the bus pass frequently. It’s also free if you have a Cannes Festival badge. It’s less than 10 min walk to Cineum. A great alternative to watch films in competition.

Very noisy due to the location. Not even a trash can in the room. Shower didn't have a door. So the bathroom got flooded. Paid breakfast.

This is a small family run hotel that is simple, basic and works. It’s straightforward, the staff are communicative, helpful and friendly. Bed was comfy. bathroom worked, aircon if needed, no drama at all and very obliging with my special requests and storing my luggage for a bit on the last day. A few decorative improvements could be good, but they are secondary to the essentials.

We stayed at Hotel Esperanto because my mother was injured during a trip and is now in the hospital in Cannes. The hotel is simply furnished but wonderful. Above all, the staff is outstanding! They are kind, helpful, open, and amazing people who made our stay truly fantastic. We highly recommend Hotel Esperanto. If it were possible, we would give 10 stars instead of 5. Thank you for everything! Georg and Stephan.

Simply loved this hotel so much I extended my stay! The staff are exceptional. Barry & Olivier.....all the staff such wonderful kind, warm people who are extremely generous of spirit. Most important was also finding safe/secure parking which is free. ♥️Practically impossible to find in any city. My single room with balcony was small but perfect, very clean, comfortable bed & pillow, hot shower, TV, aircon, everything I needed. Plentiful, fresh continental breakfast to kick start the day. Great location, very close to shops, rail station, harbour with many local restaurants all within easy walking distance. Highly recommend & will return.

Great Hotel close to the centre! I really loved this place, especially the service! We could park our bikes indoors and they also offered to help carry the luggage to our room. Had a great chat with the receptionist, a bike enthusiast himself, and he gave us valuable advice for our journey. All in all great value. Cheers guys!

Tips for Booking Cheap Hotels in Cannes

Finding a budget hotel is only half the battle; knowing how to book it correctly is what separates savvy travelers from those who overpay. The hospitality market in Cannes is highly volatile due to its event calendar. By applying a few local strategies, you can often upgrade your stay or save a significant percentage off the standard rate, even during busier periods. Here are some essential tips to keep your accommodation costs as low as possible.

1. Avoid Major Convention Dates
The single biggest factor affecting hotel prices in Cannes is the event calendar. The Palais des Festivals hosts massive trade shows throughout the year, such as MIPIM (March), Cannes Lions (June), and the Film Festival (May). If your dates are flexible, check the official Palais des Festivals schedule before booking. Staying the week before or after a major event can result in prices dropping by 50% or more.

2. Leverage the "Cannes Pass" or Transport Cards
If you choose a cheaper hotel in districts like La Bocca or Le Cannet, you will rely on public transport. Instead of paying for single bus tickets, look into the local transport authority’s multi-day passes. The savings on transport often make staying further out significantly cheaper than paying a premium for a hotel in the center, and the buses run frequently along the coast.

3. Book Directly with the Hotel
While third-party aggregators are great for research, many small, independent budget hotels in France offer better rates or free breakfast for direct bookings. Once you find a hotel on a comparison site, call or email the hotel directly to ask if they have a "meilleur tarif" (best rate) or a special offer for direct payment. This is particularly effective with family-run establishments.

4. Look for "Cabinet de Toilette" Rooms
In older French hotels, you might find rooms listed with a "cabinet de toilette" (a private shower and sink) but a shared toilet in the hallway. While this might sound inconvenient, it is often the absolute cheapest way to secure a private sleeping space in a central location. If you are comfortable with this classic European setup, you can save a fortune while staying steps from the Croisette.

5. Visit in the Winter Months
Cannes is not just a summer destination. The weather in December, January, and February is often mild and sunny, though too cold for swimming. If your goal is to explore the French Riviera, hike the Esterel mountains, or visit nearby Nice and Monaco, winter offers the lowest hotel rates of the year. You can often find rooms for under €60 a night that would cost €200 in July.

6. Check for "Taxe de Séjour" in Advance
In France, the tourist tax (taxe de séjour) is often not included in the headline price shown on booking engines. This is a per-person, per-night fee that you must pay at the hotel. While it is usually small for budget hotels (often between €1 and €3), it can add up for families. Always check the fine print to ensure the "cheap" rate you found doesn’t have hidden local fees that push it over your budget.

Cannes remains one of the most glamorous destinations in the world, but it is entirely possible to experience its charm without a celebrity budget. By lowering your accommodation costs, you can immerse yourself in the local culture, from the bustling Forville Market to the sandy public beaches. A good budget hotel provides a safe, quiet base for your adventures, allowing you to return each evening with money still in your pocket.

Ultimately, the best trip is one where you don’t stress about the bill at checkout. With a bit of planning and the right choice from our list, you can enjoy the glitz and glamour of the French Riviera while keeping your finances firmly grounded. Bon voyage!
