Very beautiful cafeteria. Loved it! As I understood, the only thing they have and it's not vegan is the eggs, but they have vegan eggs as well, so I am not sure why they have eggs 😅. Great coffee, delicious tostadas and cakes, totally recommended place.

Awesome little place. Been there twice during a visit to Madrid over the weekend. Usually a big fan of coffee but I tried the iced matcha and banana bread. Don‘t order it if you‘re not hungry 😂 The slices are huge! Friendly staff and more than fairly priced for what you get.
Daniel Roures Rego★★★★★
I went to Dale Café for lunch today, and I loved everything I ate: the muhammara, the toast with cashew cheese and the dulce de leche cheesecake. Plus, I ordered a pistachio roscón de reyes, and it was absolutely delicious. The staff are super nice. Almost everything is vegan, including the roscón. I totally recommend this place.

Lovely small boutique style cafe with fresh brunch, tasty burrito & avocado bread, coffee, cake and a smoothie. Premium price for high-quality brunch. I highly recommend!

We went there for breakfast, we got a seat immediately and the service was also good. The food was really nice and generous. The juice is fresh and the oat milk latte was perfect.

Good specialty coffee, simple, yet incredibly good food! I keep coming back for their salad bowl with shredded chicken, tomatoes, edamame & pecans - it’s so balanced in taste and in ingredients💔 Tried their sweet options as well - the oats, the homemade nut butter toast, the pancakes - all of them are worthy as well. Definitely recommend this place, I go there super often myself🫶🏻

Very nice coffee shop with tasty pastries and nice staff. Good place to hang out after visiting one of the two big museums to rest your legs and relax. You can also stop for breakfast before you move on. They have sweet and savory snacks.

Everything we tried was so good. The carrot cake is not pictured but also delicious. We thought the cacio e pepe scrambled eggs were so creative! The place in itself is so creative. It’s everything we love about Madrid. Saved as a favorite and will be back for another iced latte with hazelnut syrup.

Good Coffee, nice people, Great Breakfast! Also nice Place and General. Like the Mix with the Books. What I don’t like is the cheap vinyl floor. I bet the original surface a few layers beloe would have charm
Doğa Can★★★★★
Had the chicken sandwich with spicy mayo and a cold brew both were really beautiful. Love their branding and the overall atmosphere but for me the moment this place became a “5 Star” establishment was the moment is stepped in the bathroom. It’s a clean and comfortable bathroom but the wall art made my day. I wont give away and spoil the experience for you, but all I can say that you will be well entertained 😌

I highly recommend the baked eggs at this restaurant; they are truly innovative and delicious. The mushroom variety is particularly noteworthy, as it offers a delightful experience akin to Alfredo sauce, but with eggs instead of chicken. Additionally, I must say that I enjoyed one of the best coffees I’ve ever had there. It was so exceptional that I considered purchasing extra coffee to take home. Unfortunately, they do not sell coffee beans, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant for brunch, as it offers a unique and satisfying dining experience.

We Tried baked eggs with mushrooms / specials with sweet potato and baked egg with ham. The portion size is more than enough for one. Waiters were lovely. Had to wait a bit but overall great breakfast.

Busy vibe. The baked eggs are delicious. The salmon toasty is so good. Strongly recommended! Also the homemade peanut butter toast is so unique. the roasted peanut with honey and banana perfectly matched.

Loved this place so much I came back the next day. A cute and cozy cafe with great lighting, good music, kind staff and wonderful food. Some of the tables are old Singer sewing tables which was such a nice touch. I tried the Turkish eggs the first day and added a side of halloumi (a must…it’s fantastic) and the next day I got the staff bowl with sweet potatoes, pulled pork, quinoa, etc. The food is comforting and flavorful while still feeling healthy. I also enjoyed an iced matcha latte with oat milk and another time tried their glow smoothie. Can’t recommend this place enough. I still have to go back to try the grilled cheese!

I had a wonderful experience at Nómade Café in Madrid and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy and welcoming brunch spot. From the moment I walked in, I felt the warm and relaxed atmosphere that makes this place so special. The interior is charming and comfortable, creating the perfect setting to enjoy a slow breakfast or a pleasant afternoon coffee. One of the highlights of my visit was definitely the freshness of the food. Every dish tasted like it was prepared with high-quality ingredients and great attention to detail. The vegetables were crisp and vibrant, the bread was perfectly toasted, and everything was beautifully presented. You can truly tell that the kitchen takes pride in serving fresh, flavorful meals. Whether you choose a savory brunch plate or something sweet, the quality is consistently impressive. Another aspect that made my visit memorable was the kindness and professionalism of the staff. The employees were incredibly polite, attentive, and friendly. They made sure we were comfortable, answered our questions with a smile, and created a genuinely welcoming environment. It’s always a pleasure to dine somewhere where the team clearly cares about customer satisfaction. In addition to the excellent food and service, the prices are very reasonable for the quality offered. Considering the freshness of the ingredients, generous portions, and the central location, the café provides great value for money. It’s refreshing to find a place that combines high standards with affordable pricing. Overall, Nómade Café is a fantastic spot in Madrid for fresh food, kind service, and fair prices. I will definitely be coming back on my next visit!
Vamos★★★★☆
A stylish neighbourhood cafe, serving healthy food options. It’s not on the main street so you may not come across it on your way, but a little bit of pre-Madrid work might easily take you there. The reviews and ratings are highly popular. I was there by opening hour, so I didn’t experience any wait time, but when I was leaving, the place was full. It didn’t take too long after my order, and the filter coffee was served first. The ingredients were fresh and of high quality, which made the taste top-notch. The service team was attentive, and the prices were reasonable. Clean WCs, free WiFi, and spotless tables made my rating. A second visit was deserved.

Everything was amazing! The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and the service was super fast. The toast and pancakes we ordered came out really quickly and both tasted absolutely delicious. Definitely one of the nicest café experiences we had in Madrid!

I loved it here. The vibe is amazing, my favourite so far in Barcelona and Madrid. Lots of seating options, big windows, comfortable-looking chairs, tables for working or visiting. The decaffeinado vanilla iced latte was delicious, although the apple cake was not my favourite, but that's personal preference as I was expecting a coffee cake texture. So that's my mistake for not looking closely ahead of time. The lemon coffee cake looked delicious. I would absolutely love to come back and sit in. The service was lovely and worked with my broken Spanish.

Best brownie I ever eat!🩷also very good tea and cozy vibe! 🙂

Great salads, great tostadas. Prices are amazingly affordable. The salmon salad was the best! Great, affordable place for lunch after a morning at Parque Retiro or El Prado.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This little coffee shop is such a hidden gem! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, perfect for grabbing a cup of coffee and either relaxing or getting some work done. The coffee itself is excellent—smooth, rich, and clearly made with care. What really stood out, though, was the service. Gloria, the host, was absolutely wonderful. She greeted me with a genuine smile and made me feel right at home from the moment I walked in. She took the time to recommend a drink based on what I like and even checked in to make sure everything was just right. You can tell she truly cares about every guest’s experience. Between the quality of the drinks and Gloria’s warmth, this spot is definitely worth visiting. I’ll be coming back for sure!
Susan Baker★★★★★
Excellent coffee! Cozy! Just two blocks South of El Prado, Eugene and his team provide excellent service, delicious food and pastries, and chill atmosphere for breakfast, lunch or early dinner. The early dinner (arrive by eight for 8:30 closing) is a plus when you don’t want to wait ‘til restaurants reopen for dinner after 8:30, and if you don’t want to just eat tapas again between five and eight. Includes super fresh salads, sandwiches, and pastries. It’s our favorite place in the stretch between el Prado and Atocha Train Station on the edge of the delightful Las Huertas neighborhood. Tómatelo con calma!

Really nice breakfast/brunch place. Affordable, tasty and fresh. The only downfall was that we had to wait for a table a bit but it was well handled by the waiters. We got mascarpone and avocado toast, which were exceptional, along with two American sandwiches (burgers). Special thanks to the waiter that had his first working day - you did more than well managing our inquiries ;). I recommend!
Carmela Ver★★★★★
Cute cafe where you can have an early breakfast. We enjoyed the avocado toast and sweet potato fries. The coffee is also delicious here. The inside is a little small so it may be difficult for parties larger than 4 to get a table
Marinette Leclerc★★★☆☆
I’ve been here multiple times and genuinely love the coffee, which is why I was excited to finally try the brunch with a friend. Unfortunately, it was really disappointing. The pancakes were honestly inedible, you have to pay extra for every topping (which is fine), but even with fruit and syrup they were incredibly bitter, almost spicy in a wasabi-like way that scratched the throat. I managed to force down one thanks to the fruits and left the other. I’m surprised given how good the coffee is, I think there’s definitely room for improvement, especially considering you can find better brunch options at a lower price point nearby.
Brigita Grine★★★★★
I stopped by for a lunch and I enjoyed my meal a lot. The atmosphere was a bit chaotic after a half-marathon, but I appreciated that staff tried to accommodate everyone as best as they could and did it with a smile. One staff member spoke English which was very helpful. The place seems popular among tourists and expats. My sandwich was exceptional and served quickly. I wouldn’t recommend GF cookies - flavour was nice, but it fell apart as soon as you bite into it. Overall, I pretty good option for a GF meal.
A. Alhussami★★★★☆
Hidden on a narrow street, this modern coffee shop is easy to miss but usually packed. We waited about 15 minutes and got seats at the counter. The croissant was fluffy and crunchy, and both the matcha and flat white were spot-on. Great vibe and quality coffee, really worth a stop!

We visited Merienda during our trip to Madrid in June, and if I lived there, it would be one of my favorite spots. The food was absolutely delicious, and everything was prepared with so much care. We ordered takeaway, and the whole experience was seamless. Summer and her beautiful team were incredibly kind and welcoming, making us feel at home from the very first moment. Their warmth and hospitality made our visit even more special. Thank you for such a lovely experience. We can't wait to come back!

The restaurant’s atmosphere is very nice. It’s clear that it’s really popular, as it was overcrowded. The lady put us on the waiting list for a table, but since the space is quite small, we had to wait outside, which wasn’t very pleasant because it was raining. After a few minutes, we were seated. There were three of us, and we sat at a small table that didn’t even have chairs to lean on. To place our order, we had to stand in line at the counter. The food was good, but we had to wait quite a while for it. They forgot my coffee, and I had to remind them. I understand that it can be challenging with so many people in the place. Overall, however, the restaurant is quite pleasant, and both the coffee and food are good.
Sasa Radenkovic★★★★★
Really cute little cafe located near Mercado San Ildefonso. The cafe was full so prepare for maybe 10ish minutes of waiting. The people working are super nice, they all speak english and are more than happy to help out with the menu. You also can scan the menu on the table. Espresso was really good, a bit sour, just the way I like it, and the spanish late was amazing acording to my wife. Fresh orange juice was sweet, you can really taste the fruit, it isnt a store bought juice. Service was fast, we waited for not more than 5 minutes for the drinks. There is also all say brunch but we just ate. People next to us had some bowls and sandwiches, they enyojed them for what I can tell.
Asta★★★★☆
Quite good experience at the first time, their cakes actually impressed me a lot. Second time still good but the third time bad. Compare to other experiences those cakes are big and fresh and I can say it is made in the morning not some days ago. My third experience was terrible, we order a strawberry cake and a matcha one which the strawberry taste not fresh and good, the crepes in the match one taste like from yesterday which is sort of wet and it was supper small compared to to the price it have. It taste like frozen cakes…. Terrible experience, hope it can keep the quality like my past experiences…☹️( first photo from today, second and third photos from last time) I can’t even wait until I back home to write this comment, I wrote at here!!!
Omar Alkharji★★★★★
A cozy and stylish spot with a great atmosphere! The coffee here is perfectly balanced — smooth, rich, and beautifully presented with latte art that shows real attention to detail. The waffle with fresh fruits was absolutely delicious — soft on the inside, slightly crispy on the outside, and topped with a generous variety of fresh fruits and maple syrup. I also tried their shakshuka, which was full of flavor and came with freshly toasted bread — a great choice for breakfast or brunch. The service was friendly and quick, and the overall vibe was calm and modern, making it an ideal place to relax or catch up with friends. Highly recommended for anyone looking for quality coffee and a good breakfast in Madrid ☕🍓🥞

The most expensive coffee I had in Madrid. It was also the worst. They had a decent espresso machine and used Illy beans, but the quality of the coffee was terrible.

Price is very expensive to museums café, 1 sandwiches for 6.99 and we have 5 people but we dont eat as a lunch in there so we order less. however, they asked us it that for 5 people maybe they think we having a lunch in there. Anyway, the service is alright. Food -i order two sandwiches and water. Sandwiches is chicken curry which is very yummy. The location is bit far but still great
Marie★☆☆☆☆
The staff was very unpleasant and completely uninterested in their clients. Waited 30min for the waiter to just come to the table and tell me ‘to wait just one moment’, when I’ve been already waiting for long enough. The food itself was okay, but rather typical, not worth the prolonged wait and overpriced. Do not recommend this restaurant, unlike the museum itself, which is fantastic.
Oleksii Pasichnyi★★☆☆☆
Stick to coffee and wine if possible. The food is just sadness given that it is a national museum of Spain in the centre of Madrid. The stuff is polite but slow and can easily charge you extra. The sitting is convenient for visiting the museum.
Francisco Mortágua★★★☆☆
Museum cafés are usually more of a convenient choice than a logical one, and this is no exception. €16 for two double coffees and two regular croissants isn’t great value for money. But it’s convenient if you are visiting the museum. The indoor and outdoor seating areas are pleasant, and while the staff were somewhat cold, they were efficient.

This café has that cute, cozy, local vibe. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the staff were very kind and friendly. It has a warm, simple, "homey" atmosphere! Natural pear and lemon juice, a delicacy. We served Tortilla de patatas hecha con huevos amperos, pan con tomate y ensaladita.❤️

This is a charming cute cafe with lovely food, nice ambience, good value for money & a very friendly host. The potato leek cold soup and quinoa salad is amazing, and the fish pie was simply delish. To pair that with sangria / tinto de verano tops it all.

Pristine service from Fernando, followed by the best lentil soup I’ve had in my life! The most unique thing here is the revolving menu on a daily basis. This component made me feel like I was 8 years old again at my Abuela’s house. Everything we ordered was simply majestic and this is a place that deserves much more accolades.

We went to Matilda after reading the reviews and will say that this place does surprise you . The food quality , taste and preparation is top class. We managed to get a table as we went in early but I can tell you that it is frequented by locals and tourists alike . We had avocado toast and a Spanish omelette and both were top class. Will definitely recommend to people visiting that area.

What a nice gem to find. It is a small cozy place. The waiter was wounderful a spoke very well English and French. He was paying attention to every little detail to make sure we had an extraordinary experience (which we had). We started with salad and gazpacho. I normally am not crazy about gazpacho but this one had watermelon in it, which intrigued me. What a great discovery!!! It was absolutely delicious and refreshing. We also had meat balls in tomato sauce and ham. Food & service were extraordinary. Very well priced and potions are generous. Best sangria I ever had. We were too full for desserts that looked fabulous on other tables. A must go place in Madrid

We enjoyed our lunch at cafe Prado. The food was delicious and a great way to take a break in the middle of our full day visiting the Prado.

The cakes are really good, but the coffees have to be much much better. The order line, you wait about 10 minutes. You bring and take away the tray with the order yourself. The prices are higher than the average because it is a cafe in a museum.

We were delighted with what we found inside the museum. Food quality in the restaurant (not the cafe part but the part with table cloth & waiter service) much better than expected. Service was good too. It was a delight to find as we didn’t need to venture out in the middle of our 8 hours stay inside the Prado.
Travelin Gal★★★★★
Don’t be turned off by the negative reviews. This is an excellent museum cafe and we’ve eaten in plenty of them. Ate there twice while visiting the Prado on two different days and both times the food was excellent. Fantastic Caesar Salad with grilled chicken, with small strips of bacon, cheese, tomatoes, and more, tossed with a delicious dressing. My husband enjoyed a ham & cheese sandwich made on crusty bread, like a mini baguette. Sparkling water to drink. For dessert we tried the carrot cake. It was freshly made and not too sugary sweet; the icing was light and creamy plus it was served at room temperature so that the full flavors came through. Two days later we ate in the Prado Museum cafe again, in the late afternoon on a Monday, experiencing excellent food and service. My husband and I split a pastrami sandwich with greens (rocket?), cheese, pickles, mustard/mayo, on brioche, and lightly warmed up - it was so good! Fresh pressed orange juice was not bitter and tasted like it was just pressed. For dessert, we split a slice of lemon cake that was room temperature and like homemade. The coffees with hot milk were excellent. We both agreed the cafe food was delicious at this world class museum and next time we want to try its restaurant. We ate inside with real cutlery and plates, saucers and cups. Not sure why some posts have pictures of paper cups. This is a review of the Prado Museum Cafe inside the museum, after paying for entry and passing through security.

Cozy and aesthetically pleasing place. There’s no Wi-Fi or phone service, which can be inconvenient but it also encourages you to disconnect and actually connect with the people around you. Unfortunately, I wasn’t satisfied with my experience here. When we arrived, the upstairs area was full, so they suggested we sit downstairs. We agreed, but the downstairs area had a very strong artificial air freshener smell, probably because of humidity or something nearby. The smell was overwhelming and honestly uncomfortable to breathe. The lighting downstairs was also extremely dim and unpleasant. Most of the chairs and sofas didn’t feel very stable or comfortable either. I actually had to change my chair because it felt loose and unsafe. The coffee arrived spilled into the saucer, and the sugar packet next to it was wet and unusable. The staff also didn’t really speak English, which made communication a bit difficult. On top of that, the cake I ordered arrived much later than the coffee, so by the time it came, my drink was already almost cold. That said, the cake itself and the nachos we ordered tasted good. But unfortunately, the coffee was not memorable at all, and overall the experience was disappointing.

Ok Luz is a VIBE. Grandma core. Couches and mismatched furniture. Candle light energy. The cappuccino was funnnn. The toast was good. They only let you sit in the main area if you get food, but the food is good & cheap. The bar is also cute. I sat here and journaled 🙂

Tips for Enjoying Cafes Near the Museum

Navigating the coffee culture in Madrid can be slightly different from what you might expect at home, especially regarding timing and etiquette. To ensure you have a seamless experience and blend in with the locals, it helps to understand a few unwritten rules of the scene. Here are some practical tips to enhance your coffee break near the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum.

1. Know the Difference Between "Barra" and "Mesa"

In many traditional Spanish cafes, you will notice two price tiers. Standing at the bar (barra) is often significantly cheaper than sitting at a table (mesa). If you are just looking for a quick shot of energy, order at the counter and drink it standing like a local. If you need to rest your legs after walking through the gallery, paying the small premium for a table is absolutely worth it.

2. Time Your Visit to Avoid the Rush

The cafes immediately surrounding the museum experience a massive influx of customers during typical lunch hours, usually from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. If you want a quieter atmosphere or a better chance of securing a window seat, aim for a mid-morning coffee break around 10:30 AM or a late afternoon stop after 5:00 PM.

3. Understand the Local Coffee Lingo

While specialty coffee shops are booming in Madrid, traditional cafes still operate on classic terminology. If you want a standard coffee with milk, ask for a "café con leche." If you prefer a smaller, stronger drink, request a "cortado." Asking for a "latte" might get you a glass of plain milk, so it is best to use the local terms to get exactly what you want.

4. Don’t Skip the Toast

A coffee in Madrid is rarely just a coffee; it is often an excuse for a light breakfast or snack. Many of the best cafes near the museum serve "tostada con tomate" (toast with crushed tomato and olive oil). Pairing your espresso with this simple, savory treat is one of the most authentic and affordable ways to eat like a local.

5. Plan for the "Siesta" Hours

While the tourist-heavy areas near the Prado and Thyssen have adapted to international schedules, some smaller, traditional cafes may still close for a few hours in the late afternoon, typically between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. If you have your heart set on a specific historic spot, check their current hours online before walking over to avoid disappointment.

The area around the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum is a treasure trove of sensory experiences that extend far beyond the canvas. Taking the time to sit in a quality cafe allows you to process the art you have witnessed while participating in a daily ritual that defines the city’s character. It is the perfect bridge between the historical world inside the museum and the vibrant, modern life of Madrid outside.

Whether you choose a century-old institution or a new-wave roastery, you are guaranteed to find a welcoming space to rest your feet. The perfect end to a day of art is often found not in another gallery, but at a small table with a perfectly pulled espresso, watching the world go by on the Paseo del Prado.
