12 Best Cafes in Puerto de la Cruz

Puerto de la Cruz wears its history and volcanic landscape with an effortless charm that few other resort towns in Tenerife can match. While the south of the island is known for its purpose-built beaches and arid climate, this northern coastal town offers lush botanical gardens, black-sand shores, and a working harbour that still hums with local life. The cafe culture here reflects that same authenticity, blending traditional Spanish barra service with a growing appreciation for specialty coffee and modern brunch aesthetics.

Finding the right cafe is about more than just caffeine; it is about matching your mood to the rhythm of the town. Whether you need a quiet corner to work remotely with reliable Wi-Fi, a sun-drenched terrace to people-watch, or a family-run spot for a traditional barraquito, Puerto de la Cruz delivers. The best establishments respect the local produce, often sourcing pastries from nearby bakeries and coffee from small-batch roasters on the island.

Because the town is compact and highly walkable, you can easily plan your day around a series of excellent coffee stops. The historic old town offers narrow cobbled streets and colonial architecture, while the areas near Plaza del Charco and the Martianez lakes provide a more vibrant, tourist-friendly atmosphere. Each neighborhood has its own distinct flavor, and the cafes reflect that diversity in their menus and interior design.

One of the unique aspects of cafe culture in Puerto de la Cruz is the seamless blend of Canarian tradition with international influence. You can start your morning with a strong espresso and a sweet palm honey pastry, then find a Scandinavian-style sourdough sandwich for lunch just a few blocks away. This variety ensures that solo travelers, digital nomads, families, and couples all have a place that feels tailored to their needs.

For those who care about provenance, several cafes in the area now emphasize direct trade relationships with farms in South America and Africa, roasting locally in Tenerife. This commitment to quality elevates the standard cup of coffee significantly above the typical tourist trap fare. Baristas are often happy to discuss the origin of their beans and recommend the best brewing method for your palate.

Price points vary, but Puerto de la Cruz generally remains more affordable than the upscale southern resorts. A quality flat white or specialty pour-over will cost you less here than in many other European tourist destinations, making it an ideal base for coffee enthusiasts on a budget. The relaxed pace also means you rarely feel rushed to vacate your table, even during busy morning hours.

Below, we have curated a selection of the most distinctive, reliable, and beloved cafes in the area. These choices prioritize flavor, atmosphere, and genuine hospitality rather than just photogenic interiors.

Great place which can get busy and not find a table (8 in total). Not big menu ,they have 3-4 ciabbata sandwiches and super fresh soft cinnamon rolls (4-5 options) and éclairs. Coffee is good too. Staff is really nice !

The server is incredibly friendly and helpful. The food is amazing, and I’m torn between the warm crunchy focaccia and the fluffy cinnamon roll. It’s a must-visit breakfast spot in Puerto de la Cruz.

a very unassuming but incredible place! the focaccias are out of this world good and cinnamon rolls equally great!! Highly recommend!

If you’re in Puerto de la Cruz, make sure to visit Señorita Canelita. We’ve been having lunch here every day and it has truly become one of our favorite places. The coffee is excellent, the sandwiches are fresh and delicious, and the sweet treats are impossible to resist. But what makes this place really special is the wonderful staff, such kind, warm and welcoming people who make you feel at home from the moment you walk in. A perfect spot to relax and enjoy great food in a lovely atmosphere.

Delicious breakfast and a great smoothie. The lady who served me was very kind and welcoming, even though I don't speak Spanish. Excellent service, pleasant atmosphere, and good prices. I would definitely visit again.

Amazing! Really bizarre to take a nostalgic trip back in time. It is from 1977 and the guy who rents the place is so passionate about it. Places like this should never dissapear and be a cultural treasure!! Please keep supporting this treasure as I am only on holiday here. I wish I could come here weekly or daily.

What a lovely spot to sit and people watch whilst enjoying a drink or something to eat. Super friendly service although not the quickest! I ordered a prawn salad and whilst it came with a reasonable amount of prawns the salad consisted of just lettuce and tomato which I thought was a bit basic. I don't think I would order that if I came again. I have to say the cakes looked delicious although I didn't have any! Loved the old fashioned floor and decor ... A definite step back in time and something that they shouldn't think about updating!!! It is lovely as it is.
Matthew Halsall★★★★★
I do love this traditional Café. Open since 1977, everything is done really properly and it attracts a constant crowd of regulars. Service is swift and friendly and the food traditional sandwiches and a few simple hot dishes. Great for sitting and people watching over a coffee or a beer.
Bobby Harding★★★★★
This place is a real slice of history. The art deco-style interior is so refreshing, it feels like stepping back in time without feeling like a museum. Plus, the coffee is great. Resist the pressure to modernise and minimalise, cafe royal never change!!!

I love this coffee shop, and their friendly owners, and their little dishes, and the wonderful atmosphere! Where else in Puerto can you hear Dean Martin sing ? Where else can you go back to 1976 ?

We found this delightful authentic cafe bar in the back streets of the old town. When we arrived most tables were taken, but we found a table in the shade. Friendly waitress service. The menu is small, a selection of ( large portions) tapas dishes. All the dishes were fresh ingredients and tasty. We ordered asparagus, a hot Canarian chickpea stew and a tuna empanada with fresh veg. We had White House wine cold and crisp. There is an interior bar with quirky art work. A great find and perfect way to stop to enjoy the food and wine.

Lovely area. An intersection of old attractive streets forming a square. Comfortable pretty restaurant. Reasonable prices. Friendly waiter although he disappeared. Probably busy. Extensive drinks menu. Limited food menu but tasty.

Charming, friendly bar in a quiet square. Range of decent, well priced drinks and good snacks. We have been here many times and always make a point of visiting it when we are in the area.

Honestly expected better from this place, it had overpriced drinks that don’t even taste that good and overall just a skip if you travel to the island, also disgusting to see how they answer to customers that complain. Maybe if you don’t want bad reviews be a better owner ?

Excellent service-especially thanks to Sandra. She made Us feel special;she prepares delicious sandwiches, and her coffee is the best on the island. A very pleasant atmosphere

Great service and a real bohemian vibe at this vegan coffee shop. They sell cool memorabilia and surf items. All the ingredients and baked goods are vegan and their coffee was good. 👍🏽

We have visited this pub four times already, and every single visit has been absolutely fantastic. The cocktails here are simply outstanding — truly some of the best we’ve ever had. The Negroni deserves a special mention; it was perfectly balanced, smooth, and unforgettable. The bartender is a true maestro — you can really see the passion, skill, and artistry in every drink he creates. The atmosphere is stylish, lively, and incredibly welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable and want to stay for hours. The nachos were also on point — fresh, flavorful, and the perfect complement to the drinks. We are beyond satisfied with our experience and will definitely keep coming back. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates amazing cocktails, great vibes, and top-quality service!

Great bar and staff were joyful. Very cute place however marked down as would not let me buy the cutesy glass😔😂. Was not open during the morning and had limited food options during the evening so cant rate the food however the drinks were very good 👌

So enjoyed my daily visits here for coffee, something to eat, wine, working on my laptop, beer, cocktails.... This place is a true example of exemplary hospitality - anybody is welcome, everyone is greeted with the same kindness and concern. Regulars are cherished - and new regulars quickly recognised! Good coffee, simple breakfasts and snacks all day, beers, wines - above all a warm and friendly place to chat, read, and stare into space. Perfect.

I'm shocked at the size of this cocktail and the taste is great! And my martini was good too! I recommend visiting this place!
Mandy Fischer★★★★★
The same procedure as every year in november 🤩 great cocktails! These two were prepared upon request, without alcohol, so they're specials. Most of the Cocktails on the menu look just as fantastic and taste superb.
Oliver★★★★☆
Really nice outside drinking area. We stopped for a cocktail most evenings before our night out. The cocktails are absolutely massive and come with lots of fresh fruit and booze.😀 service is great also Didn't eat here so couldn't comment on food but definitely a great spot for a cocktail.
Line Wheeler★★★★★
We went there for cocktails as I saw some posts on Facebook . The cafe , cocktail bar is on a side street , not easy to see is you did not get directions, and the outside went close does not show what it is . The cocktails menu is large but difficult to read due to the font orange print on a red paper . But the cocktails OMG, we had the Miami Vice and the Banana Mia. Already you can taste the fresh ingredients, no pre mix or colorant being use there and the level of alcohol is strong . Will go back again . But we pay 26€ When I remember the price on menu being , 9€ and 11€ do not know how it finished to be this price , may be terrace price but there is no inside so do not understand but that was so good

So glad we found this place today. Amazing, fresh food and proper portions. The lady who was working was lovely and speaks very good English (and German) so it's a great place to visit if you're like me and can't speak Spanish 😅 The highlight is still the food though so definitely check it out if you're in the area!

We've bought the all you can eat brunch with BonosPremium and it was absolutely amazing! Don't let yourself give up when trying to reserve - we called probably 6 times and in the end for a call back to be able to reserve. The waitor is an absolute delight, all the dishes were delicious and indeed we eat till we could no longer fit anything in! We've tried a few brunch places in Puerto already, and I'd say that this is the best - for sure in terms of price-to-value, but also in terms of quality, presentation and loveliness of the people. Maybe just make sure to bring a jacket along in the morning as it's in the shadow

Probably the best bread i have ever eaten! This place is heaven for breakfast or brunch. The service is really friendly and interactive. The food is high quality. The famous 1m long sandwiches made with ‘masa madre’ bread. Worth a visit if in the area

Spectacular! Went there with a bunch of hunger kids. Literally it’s a whole fresh baguette filled up with the meat or tortilla of your choice. So delicious! The waiter gave us some good advice so that we wouldn’t waste food and I truly appreciate it. They bottle up the water themselves into glass bottles that can be reused .We took for dessert some cakes and they were all flavorful and juicy. Absolutely recommend this place!! Plus they have an extremely hot sauce (Carolina reaper).

Lovely restaurant, café with great service and delicious food. The pastries, sandwiches, bocadillos and desserts are amazing. I highly recommend eating in or getting something to take out. The service is always friendly with a warm atmosphere.

Really nice authentic Spanish bakery/cafe. The prices are reasonable and a good selection of teas/coffees and bakery. Teas and coffees tasted great 👌. Brownie cake slice was really nice but small for the price. Chocolate croissant was very well priced and also tasted nice (not the best chocolate croissant I’ve had). Vegan toast was really good 10/10. Only things are that pastries 🥐 didn’t have prices next to them so it was a bit of a guess how much I will be charged for each I choose and some seats weren’t clean. Wi-fi didn’t seem to work for me. Overall the best bakery place I’ve ever been to 👌. Chocolate and biscuits (in-house made) and merchandise were also available to purchase. Definitely recommend visiting this place.
Natasa Zezelj-Pavicevic★★★★☆
Creamy, rich, and absolutely delicious ice cream! They offer not only classic flavors but also authentic Canary Islands specialties like Gofio and Timba, which are definitely worth trying. The portions are generous, and the quality is excellent. Highly recommended!
Chelsea Houlbrook★★★★☆
we were sceptical when we first entered, there was no menu to be found and everything was in spanish (we’re english), so we were not sure what to do. we sat near the counter trying to find a menu online but could not find much, especially not in english. we went up to ask the staff and they told us to sit down and someone would come over. about 10 minutes later someone did come, but we still had not seen a menu so we asked again and were given a qr code. ordering was a bit difficult as there was not much english spoken and we only know a little spanish, so we ended up pointing at the menu. the food came out very quickly and it was really nice. prices are great as well. the only downside is the portions are quite small. the bread was very thin and my avocado toast had more rocket than avocado. we were also not sure how to pay at the end but ended up going to the counter and paid cash. we would come back again because the food was good and reasonably priced, we just wish there was a bit more guidance when you first walk in. if you’re an anxious person abroad (like me) i probably wouldn’t recommend! we went at 2/3pm and most tables were full. i can imagine it is a lot busier at breakfast or lunch time so would avoid those peak times if you want to sit in.
Azahara Rodriguez★★★★★
Good coffee, great tostadas and amazing bakery, what else would you want for breakfast? The service was great and the setting is really cute and modern. They do their own chocolate there and the woman working there was really nice, we of course bought some chocolate! Would definitely come back.
James Roberts★★★★★
The food and service here are truly exceptional. However, there is a stark contrast between the quality of the cafe and the state of the male washrooms. While they are better than most I’ve encountered in Tenerife, they fall short of international standards. I hope to see this addressed, as it is the only thing preventing a flawless experience.

It was a Sunday evening and we were looking for a nice place to have dinner. We happen to walk by this cozy restaurant in the middle of a pedestrian only street. After checking out the menu, we were delighted to find a lush green oasis inside. Erica was our waitress and she was a delight. She was very friendly and patient. The food was excellent. I enjoyed the local fish and seafood soup along with the sautéed king prawns with gourmet garlic artichokes. Both were quite enjoyable. Everyone loved the croquettes. The menu cam in a book form with version of at least five different languages. Overall our dinner was the highlight of the day.

We came upon the cozy restaurant on a Sunday evening. It was in the middle of a pedestrian only Street among many other restaurants. The atmosphere attracted us to check out the menu. We were delighted upon entering to find a lush green oasis. Erica was our waitress and she was perfect. She was friendly and helpful with the menu that came in a book form with at least five different languages. Everything was delicious. I had the local fish and seafood soup for starters. Everyone enjoyed the croquettes. I had the sautéed king prawns with gourmet artichokes. Overall it was the perfect finish to our day. We will remember our visit for years to come.

The place is huge and has a great atmosphere — it does get moderately loud in the evening, so keep that in mind if you’re looking for something quiet. Cocktail prices were reasonable, and my margarita was perfect. Others in my group had wine or other drinks and seemed happy with theirs too. The food menu is big, with lots of options, though many dishes are meat or fish-based, so vegetarian choices are a bit more limited. I didn’t feel like having pasta or rice, so I went for the vegan burger. Unfortunately, the patty was quite dry and overcooked. That said, the salad inside was fresh and the fries were excellent. Others in my group seemed happier with their meals — theirs looked tastier overall. There’s also a big dessert selection with lots of cakes and sweet options. Service was a bit slow, and one important thing to note: check your receipt carefully. We were initially charged for a couple of items we didn’t receive, but once we mentioned it, they removed them without issue. Also, they don’t allow separate card payments — only cash if you want to split. I ended up paying the full bill and my friends transferred me the money later. It felt like a slightly odd policy. Overall, a lively place with good drinks and plenty of options — just double-check the bill and be prepared for the payment rule.
Alex Bjerkholt★★★☆☆
Nice place for a drink as it has good atmosphere. However, the food has a lot to be desired. I ordered a lasagne, and it was uneadible, I had to send it back... Pizza was ok, but nothing special. Would not recommend having dinner here

Celebrated brother in laws 60th birthday here with a party of 12 of us. Amazing! Food was lovely, service brilliant and the restaurant decor is beautiful. In a central vibrant location too. A great night. The birthday cake they supplied was delicious too!

Exceptional venues and value. All the cafés in this small local chain are housed in beautiful, historic Canarian buildings. I visit this one a few times a week, normally during quieter hours, and I never have to queue. On-site, the only downside is the men's toilet, which is a bit shabby by international standards (though typical for the local area). You don't exactly leave feeling clean and refreshed. However, the overall experience is great. I visit here constantly and always bring my partner, family, and friends visiting from overseas.

Probably the most beautiful café in Puerto de la Cruz ☕🍰 David Rodriguez Café – Pastelería truly stands out for its stunning interior design. One of the prettiest places in town to enjoy a break. Desserts are delicious, the coffee is very good, and the whole atmosphere feels elegant and cozy at the same time. Definitely worth a visit! ✨

Cafetería David Rodríguez is a cozy spot, perfect for a stop to enjoy a really good coffee. And the sweets… absolutely beautiful and irresistible very chic. You place your order, pick it up, and then choose where to sit, whether it’s by the large window or any other cozy corner. A lovely place to slow down, enjoy the moment, and treat yourself

When we arrived at the cafe, there were a lot of people, so we wait a long time to be served, in general all fine. The coffee is not bad, but the cheesecakes are incredibly delicious, If you are here, be sure to take them to try you won't regret it!!🥰🤗
Uros Primozic★★☆☆☆
Place famous for their great coffee and delicious cakes, but notorious for their grumpy service and disgustingly filthy toilets. I guess they are understaffed as they changed to self service system(not indicated anywhere in the cafeteria), but apparently they are still missing a person to clean up the toilets.

Tips for Enjoying the Cafe Scene in Puerto de la Cruz

To make the most of your coffee journey in this northern Tenerife town, it helps to understand a few local customs and practical details. The following tips will help you avoid tourist traps, save money, and enjoy a more authentic experience.

  1. Order a barraquito at least once. This layered Canarian specialty combines condensed milk, espresso, frothed milk, cinnamon, and a twist of lemon peel. It is sweet, strong, and a true taste of the islands.
  2. Carry some cash for smaller, traditional cafes. While most modern coffee shops accept cards, older family-run bars may have a minimum spend or only take efectivo.
  3. Embrace the late breakfast culture. Locals often eat a light breakfast at home and stop for a mid-morning coffee and pastry around 10:30 or 11:00. You will find the best atmosphere if you follow that rhythm.
  4. Ask for leche condensada on the side. If you prefer less sugar, request your barraquito or café bombón with the condensed milk served separately so you can control the sweetness.
  5. Look for pastries from local bakeries. The best cafes often display goods from nearby panaderías or pastelerías. Ask which items are made in-house or delivered fresh that morning.
  6. Bring a light layer, even in summer. The northern climate can be cooler and cloudier than the south. Many terraces are shaded and breezy, so a light jacket will keep you comfortable while you linger.
  7. Do not expect fast service during the afternoon lull. Many smaller cafes reduce staff between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM. If you are in a hurry, order at the bar rather than waiting for table service.

The beauty of cafe-hopping in Puerto de la Cruz is that it never feels like a competition.
