12 Best Cafes in Oviedo

Nestled in the heart of Asturias, Oviedo is a city that rewards slow exploration. Its cobbled streets, historic squares, and verdant parks create a backdrop that feels both stately and welcoming. For visitors and locals alike, the café culture here is not just about caffeine; it is a cherished daily ritual.

Finding the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee, a sweet treat, or a quiet moment of reflection is essential to experiencing the city’s true rhythm. From historic institutions to modern specialty roasters, Oviedo’s café scene is remarkably diverse. Each neighborhood offers its own distinct flavor and atmosphere.

The local preference often leans toward a perfectly pulled espresso or a creamy café con leche, typically accompanied by a small pastry. However, the rise of specialty coffee has introduced a new wave of brewing methods and single-origin beans. This blend of tradition and innovation makes the city a fascinating destination for coffee lovers.

Whether you need a quiet corner to work, a sunny terrace for people-watching, or a grand interior to soak in architectural beauty, Oviedo has a table waiting for you. The best establishments balance quality beverages with a sense of place, making you feel like a part of the city’s fabric.

This guide is curated with a focus on quality, atmosphere, and authenticity. We have considered the craftsmanship of the baristas, the provenance of the beans, and the comfort of the seating. The goal is to help you navigate the city’s vibrant coffee landscape with confidence.

From the bustling center near the Cathedral to the quieter lanes of the old town, these are the places that define Oviedo’s coffee culture. Prepare to discover spaces where time slows down, conversations flow, and the coffee is consistently excellent.

Below, you will find a curated selection of the city’s most essential stops. Whether you are a dedicated coffee aficionado or simply seeking a pleasant rest during your sightseeing, these venues offer the best of what Oviedo has to offer.

You will be surprised discovering this bar. It's made with passion and respect to the best traditions of such places. Dark, extremely cosy, decorated with taste and a little a bit of mystery. Enough hidden corners to hide from the crowd with your beloved or just for a small talk. Awesome coffee based cocktails. A must to visit after heavy dinner!

It was our second time eating in this cozy restaurant and still experienced the same satisfaction. We love how the Owner is so accommodating and also speaks English. He even showed to us how to eat Fajitas de pollo. Since we're Asians, we were even provided with hot sauce which made our appetite happier. 1st Dine-in food photos: - Tiras de crispy chicken - Platos combinados (Lomo, huevos y patatas) 2nd Dine-in food photos: - Fajitas de pollo

The best breakfast in the town. They offer eggs in a variety of preparations with various additions of vegetables, salmon and much more. The coffee is amazing! To sit there or to go away. The cafe is small and cosy and very popular. There are always many people
Sabine Mejia★★★★★
The interior was warm and cozy and very well decorated. They had a great curation of coffee magazines and books. We ordered mint tea, a flat white and a cocao chai for drinks. We also tried the barra de chocolate with pistachio which was amazing! We didn’t order food, but the eggs benedict and pancakes looked amazing! Was the highlight of our trip to Oviedo.

Tris is a must try! Beautiful plated food that tastes amazing! If you want something special for breakfast this is your place! I highly recommend. Great service, great ambiance and pet friendly too. I would defiantly come back if I am around the area again.

We only had desert, luckily. It was super disappointing to see the flan was the one from supermarket, just put on a plate with some syrup also from the shop. Suspecting that tarta de queso was not really homemade either.

Wonderful little shop serving fresh strawberries with delicious frozen yogurt ice cream, plus lots of yummy toppings and syrups to enjoy! The young lady serving is so friendly and such a delight with excellent customer service. This is so quaint like right out of a movie!💕💕
Alex seoane★☆☆☆☆
My experience was very disappointing. I ordered the Dubai White (size S) for €9, and frankly, the value for money is terrible. In the advertisement, the product looks much bigger, but when you receive it, the cup is very small for the price. I was quite disappointed. The worst part was the strawberries. Several were overripe, soft, and didn't look fresh or well-preserved. I expected fresh, high-quality fruit, but that wasn't the impression I got. Furthermore, the quantity of strawberries seemed insufficient for the price, and the quality of the ones I received left much to be desired. For €9, I expected a much better-presented product, with fruit in better condition and a more generous amount. I wouldn't pay that price for this product again, and personally, I wouldn't recommend it.
Milagros Marte★★★★★
Simply delicious! The strawberries were wonderful, topped with a hazelnut chocolate drizzle and the yogurt ice cream was amazing with pistachio pieces. I'll definitely be back with my family. The staff were incredibly friendly. I highly recommend it.

For me, it's by far the best place in Oviedo for coffee, and I've been to many; the coffee is very good, the tapas too, the decor and layout are beautiful and very welcoming, the service is lovely and always with a smile, the acoustics and lighting are perfect too, and they also have a very nice terrace, although the place is so cozy that in the end I never go outside!

We really liked it at Bali. The welcome was warm, very congenial, and the vermouth choices were excellent. I'd been craving croquetas and found their ham croquetas to be very good! We'll be back, as much for the delightful people who welcomed us as for the ambiance and pinchos.

I was lucky to be visiting Oviedo on a trip from London and found this recently opened beautiful specialty coffee shop. They were using beans from the renowned Hola Coffee Company from Madrid for the win. The whole vibe is was spot on. Coffee, staff, food offerings, ambiance. Delicious, welcoming and comfortable. Thank you and hope to visit again one day 🙏
Igor Petrović★★★★★
This coffee didn’t just wake me up and shake off the existential fatigue of a full day’s travel to Oviedo, it cheerfully proposed an entirely new set of horizons to explore just when I was about to surrender myself to the noble art of doing absolutely nothing in bed. The carrot cake is from another dimension and you should try it.
Aleh Boitsau★★★★★
That is a very cozy, quiet, and relaxing place where noisy visitors, luckily, have not come yet. Good coffee, a relaxing interior with very pleasant, unobtrusive soft music, and friendly personnel.

Tips for Enjoying the Café Culture in Oviedo

To make the most of your coffee journey in Oviedo, it helps to understand a few local customs and practical details. While the city is very walkable and welcoming, a little insider knowledge can elevate your experience from good to exceptional. Here are some key points to keep in mind as you explore.

Understand the local coffee lexicon. In Oviedo, ordering a "café" usually gets you an espresso. If you prefer milk, a café con leche is the standard, balanced choice, while a cortado offers a stronger coffee flavor with just a touch of milk. Knowing these terms will help you order exactly what you want without confusion.

Timing matters. Cafés in Oviedo have distinct rhythms. Mornings are busy with breakfast crowds, often until 11:00 AM. The late afternoon, around 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, is prime time for the merienda, a light snack with coffee. Visiting between these peaks often means a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere.

Embrace the terrace culture. Much of the joy of Oviedo’s cafés comes from sitting outdoors. Even in cooler months, many terraces are equipped with heaters. A table on a sunny plaza, such as those near the Cathedral or in the old town, is perfect for watching the city go by.

Cash is still useful. While most modern cafés accept credit cards, some smaller, traditional spots or those in very old buildings may have minimum spend requirements or prefer cash for small transactions like a single espresso. It is wise to carry a few euros.

Don’t skip the pastry. The café experience in Asturias is incomplete without a local baked good. Look for carbayones, a local almond pastry named after the city’s residents, or a simple palmera de chocolate. Pairing your coffee with a regional sweet is a tradition worth honoring.

Ask for the house recommendation. Baristas in Oviedo are generally passionate and friendly. If you are in a specialty shop, do not hesitate to ask about the current single-origin offerings or their preferred brewing method. They are usually happy to share their expertise.

As you wander the streets of Oviedo, let your curiosity guide you. The city is compact enough to explore on foot, allowing you to stumble upon hidden gems that are not on any list. The true pleasure lies in finding a spot that resonates with your personal taste.

Whether you are warming up with a robust espresso in a historic café or sipping a delicate pour-over in a modern minimalist space, you are participating in a vital part of Asturian life. Enjoy the moment, the atmosphere, and the excellent coffee this beautiful city has to offer.
