Oviedo is a city that surprises you with how green it feels. Tucked between the Cantabrian Mountains and the Asturian coast, it offers a rare balance of historic charm and natural escape. For residents and visitors alike, the parks and green spaces here are not just decorative, they are central to daily life.
The local climate plays a big role in this lush landscape. Mild, damp weather keeps the grass soft and the trees full for much of the year. Even on a short walk from the old town, you can find yourself surrounded by birdsong, shaded paths, and open lawns.
Many of the best green areas in Oviedo are within walking distance of the city centre. That means you do not need a car or a long journey to enjoy fresh air. A lunch break can become a picnic, and a quick errand can turn into a peaceful stroll.
Families will find plenty of space for children to run, play, and explore safely. Fitness lovers can use walking circuits, outdoor gym stations, and long, flat paths for running or cycling. Older visitors will appreciate the many benches, accessible routes, and quiet corners for reading or resting.
Some parks celebrate local culture with sculptures, fountains, or views of famous landmarks. Others are wilder, with wooded slopes and streams that make you forget you are in a city. This variety means there is always somewhere new to discover, no matter how long you have lived here.
The city has also invested in making its green spaces clean, safe, and welcoming. You will find well-maintained paths, clear signage, and regular upkeep in most areas. That level of care makes a real difference when you are choosing where to spend your free time.
Below is a curated guide to the best parks and green spaces in Oviedo. Each one has been chosen for its atmosphere, accessibility, and the unique experience it offers.

A beautiful piece of green paradise, right in the heart of the beautiful Oviedo. They don't call Asturias the lungs of Spain for nothing!

It is a beautiful park located in the heart of Oviedo. Created in the late 19th century, it serves as a major green space in the city, surrounded by expansive lawns and trees. The park features several ponds and fountains, as well as a variety of sculptures, all contributing to its picturesque landscape.

The Campo de San Francisco is a beautiful and peaceful green space right in the heart of Oviedo. It’s perfect for a relaxing walk, with well-maintained paths, mature trees, fountains, and open areas to sit and unwind. The park has a charming atmosphere and is ideal for families, couples, or anyone looking to take a break from the city.
It can get a bit crowded during weekends or peak hours, and some areas could benefit from small maintenance updates, but overall it’s a lovely urban park and one of Oviedo’s highlights. A great place to slow down and enjoy nature in the city center.
Oksana Badrak★★★★★
My favorite place in the city. It's stunning in any weather. The vegetation, the art, the history, the cafe and the playground are just some of the things that make this place my anchor here. My daughter and my guests love it too.

A beautiful area in Oviedo. It is a park with lots of grass! There are many spots to have a picnic and it is a great place for a walk or to go jogging.
There is a trail that used to be the old railroad and if you head far out west, you can go along this walking route through tunnels to reach a river. I would recommend cycling this route as the path is relatively flat.
Rory Tiernan★★★★★
Great views, good layout. Green areas, gym, and skatepark. Good route leading out for walkers, runners, and cyclists.

City park with walking trails, playgrounds for kids, sport areas and even place to eat. A great variety of activities available here and it is a perfect place to bring kids of different age. Moreover, near one of the park's parking areas during summer time is working open-air pool area.

Locals might describe it "Mostly flat", personally I think it's quite a beautiful scenery with awesome hills.

Quiet, clean, Great views of the city and hill
David Bejar★★★★★
Great park. It is hilly and has no kids playground. It does have volleyball (several) and basketball (one) courts (open air, asphalt surface). And a challenging disc golf course. Has fountains. Fruit trees (plum, apple...), so depending on which season you visit you can see and smell beautiful blossom, or pick fruits directly from the trees. There are public toilets as well.

Jardines de la Rodriga is a truly delightful elevated park that can be accessed by stairs (or an escalator). This gated garden has steep pathways, is extremely quiet and peaceful since it is located away from the streets. There are benches to sit down and enjoy the singing birds and the sight of nature including the bright green grass. Hours are from 09h to 20h in winter and 09h to 22h in the summer. Also, no dogs are allowed.
Jennifer KY Lam★★★★☆
a tranquil park tucked away that became an excellent escape from the summer heat. while the elevator looked old and worn out, the graffiti nearby was rather charming, adding a local neighbourhood taste to it.
Mister Martin★★★★☆
The playground is nice and the park is well maintained. However, it needs something more which I can't describe.

West Park.
A stretch of the city where nature reigns supreme.
Eucalyptus trees fill the air, conifers assert their presence, poplars frame the paths, and rosemary appears as it pleases, a reminder that the earth has a memory.
Plaza Italia is also perfectly integrated here, like a small urban heart within the park, with benches, an outdoor gym, children's play areas, and drinking fountains for our furry friends.
Visitors can soak up the sun, stroll along the paths, lose themselves among the plants, and discover a bit of the world of mushrooms and other varieties that surprise those who stop to look.
It's a place where residents of La Florida and other parts of Oviedo meet and stop to chat, where conversations arise spontaneously.
Walking dogs is a constant, as are the tennis matches that can be heard in some areas, while Mount Naranco appears as a gesture on the horizon that the city sometimes forgets. The park is just 200 meters from the Camino Primitivo, perfect for a break before venturing into La Florida and continuing the journey uphill.
Parque del Oeste is where the energy of the mountains roams at dawn; a place that offers unconditional comfort, where you can breathe in nourishment for body and soul. Warm regards.
Luis E. García-Riestra★★★★☆
An English-style park west of Oviedo, with a large, walkable green space and numerous paved paths, ideal for an hour's stroll followed by relaxation on its lawns or in one of the surrounding bars. Nearby are Real Oviedo's football stadium and municipal sports facilities dedicated to tennis and swimming.

Jardines de Campillin is a garden park with trees and benches. On occasion there are public markets in it. The park is nestled in between residences and some small shops and is near the old part of town.
tanaka anunaki★☆☆☆☆
The Campillín flea market is terrible. All you find is clothes and things salvaged from dumpsters. The layout is completely chaotic and disorganized. I didn't see any licensed vendors, so it's a mix of legitimate sellers and opportunists. It's not worth wasting your time. The one in Gijón is infinitely better in terms of variety, layout, organization, quality, etc. Honestly, I was very disappointed.
Klaire O-Ren★★☆☆☆
A beloved spot for many years, an oasis amidst the asphalt and traffic. However, the city council has completely neglected it: benches and trash cans have disappeared without replacement, the remaining furniture is in a sorry state, there are no drinking fountains, and litter is everywhere. Trees are being cut down to install electric vehicle chargers (understandable if the goal was to get money from NextGenerationEU). It seems they won't lift a finger until they can profit from this park with some future project that will line their own pockets. Sad and lamentable.
Alejandra Santander★★★★★
Beautiful place, the dog track takes place on Sundays from 9 am to 2 pm. It has a large green space, ideal for coming with the family and our canine friends.

Great place to enjoy spring. Green areas and very clean.
Enrique perez El asturiano★★★★★
It's a lovely place to have a picnic with children where they can run and play, with a small park and garden area with benches and a table.
Simon★★★★★
A spacious place, with plenty of trees providing ample shade on many benches. Good for running, with a nice, well-maintained soccer field where you always see kids playing, and a shady dog park on the corner. I would have loved to play on their modern swings as a kid. The ice cream vendor knows that stopping here is profitable. It's a great park.
David _★☆☆☆☆
The dog park is quite pathetic; there isn't enough space for them to play properly, neither for small dogs nor, even less so, for large ones. Furthermore, the park is full of cans, trash, and broken glass. If they really want to make a decent park, they should do it properly, not just create a mini-park as an excuse to say they've done something for the dogs. I hope they make it bigger. In short, it's a run-down, shabby, and deplorable park.

The park is a place for leisurely strolls, a space to savor the simple pleasures, to contemplate the Aramo mountain range in the distance, or to discover its own unique beauty. At the end of the path, we can cross into the heart of Purificación Tomás Park, but not before passing a magnificent eucalyptus tree, a grand old man who watches over us, offering us his purifying fragrance.

Hermoso parque a 15 minutos del centro de Oviedo para salir a trotar/caminar o simplemente ir a descansar.
Tiene pistas de voley, balncesto y un área de aparatos para hacer gimnasia con baños a 20 metros.
MiRi LLa★★★★★
A very beautiful and well-maintained park. There's a designated off-leash dog area, which doesn't affect cleanliness (since owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets). If you visit in the late afternoon or evening, you'll see the wild boar that takes the same route every day. On the downside, the outdoor gym area for seniors is often overrun by children misusing the equipment.
Nesuca★★★★★
A natural gem to enjoy right in the city. It would be even better if they created a dog park. Many of us go there with our dogs and have to keep them on leashes so as not to disturb others. Given that it's such a large green space, it should be possible to do so.
Litonai Litonai★★★★★
A real treat. A large off-leash area for dogs, complete with a water fountain, picnic tables, and shade for hot, sunny days like today. The rest of the park features spacious, well-maintained green areas where people often go to sunbathe.

It’s a very good place to watch fireworks during San Mateo.
Marta Radzikowska★★★★★
Good place for running and resting.
J★★★★☆
The main or largest park in Montecerrado is called Plaza Tuero Bertrand. It essentially has four distinct sections. The first is a fenced-in dog park, which is unfortunately used by few people because the vast majority (or at least a substantial number) of dog owners use the entire park to walk their dogs off-leash. The second section is a fairly comprehensive children's playground, divided into two parts, with swings, a zip line, slides, and more. The third section is a very large amphitheater for concerts, events, or other gatherings. The fourth section is the rest of the park, a classic English-style park with grass and trees, quite extensive. It's a very pleasant and well-rounded park, and I highly recommend it for spending the day, especially when the weather is nice. The only downside is its somewhat peripheral location within the city, but otherwise, it's highly recommended.
G.C.C★★★★★
Very good in all aspects, children's area, sunbathing circles, running area and the surroundings are also good.
Maria Cadierno Justel★★★★★
I love this area for being with the kids. They have a blast, both in the park, which is super cool, and running around inside the amphitheater. The only downside is that the fountains haven't been working lately.

An ideal place for a walk, alone, with children, with pets, or however you like. An easy path that in many sections runs alongside the Nora River, where there are numerous ducks.
Luciana de Magalhaes Nunes★★★★★
A peaceful garden perfect for relaxing, exercising, or spending time with your pet. It's conveniently located near one of the exits of the cholesterol route.
D. O.Garcia★★★★☆
The park is great for going with children; it's safe and has picnic tables. I'm not giving it 5 stars because there used to be wooden exercise equipment in the park, and I don't know why they've been removed.
Antonio M.C★★★★☆
The park is very nice; it has wooden bridges, a river runs underneath, tables and benches, a good place to spend the afternoon and have a snack, children can play in the meadows and there are ducks in the river.

A great park to relax in.

Picos de Europa is one of Spain’s most striking natural treasures — a compact but dramatic mountain range where sheer limestone peaks, deep gorges, and lush northern forests collide in a way that feels both wild and intimate. Spanning Asturias, Cantabria, and León, the park offers an alpine atmosphere without losing its Atlantic character, making it unlike any other mountain region in Europe.
Wildlife is another highlight. Chamois, vultures, and eagles are common sights, while elusive species like the Cantabrian brown bear and Iberian wolf still roam the most remote valleys.

C. Velázquez Park, Oviedo.
A long, sunny meadow near Santullano.
Very popular with locals—it even serves as a green space in the summer.
Since it's raining today, it's not looking its best!
It's a good area to walk our pets or have them walk with us.

I enjoy the nature; it's a very pleasant place! We live nearby and walk there almost every day.
What surprised me was the culture of transportation: everyone walks on the right, cyclists are free to overtake, and there's no loud music! There are rest areas and water fountains. Personally, I'd like a restroom. If you're just going for a short walk, it's fine, but if you're doing a long workout, it wouldn't hurt.

It's one of Oviedo's largest and most peaceful parks, located in the western part of the city. It's a space designed for walking, running, or simply escaping the urban atmosphere. Tips for Enjoying Oviedo’s Parks and Green Spaces
A little preparation can make your time outdoors much more comfortable and rewarding. The tips below are based on how locals actually use these spaces, from the best times to visit to small habits that improve the experience for everyone.
- Visit early or late for quiet moments. Most parks are calmest before 10 a.m. and after 7 p.m., especially on weekends.
- Carry a light rain layer. Oviedo’s weather can shift quickly, and a light jacket or umbrella keeps a walk enjoyable.
- Bring a reusable water bottle. Several central parks have drinking fountains, but having your own water is always practical.
- Use weekday afternoons for family visits. Playgrounds are less crowded, and children have more room to move freely.
- Respect the green rule. Many lawns are open for sitting, but avoid areas marked for restoration or newly planted grass.
- Combine a park visit with a café stop. Some of the best green spaces are close to traditional sidrerías and coffee shops.
- Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes. Paths can be damp or slightly mossy, especially in shaded or wooded areas.
Oviedo’s green spaces are one of the main reasons the city feels so liveable. They offer a place to slow down, breathe, and connect with the natural rhythm of Asturias without leaving the urban centre. Whether you are visiting for a weekend or planning a longer stay, these parks give you a genuine sense of what daily life here is like.
Take your time exploring. Start with the parks closest to where you are staying, then venture further out to the larger natural areas. You may come for the cathedral and cider, but you will likely remember the quiet green paths just as fondly.
